The reality is, if Harry Truman or JFK or RFK were running in today’s environment, THEY wouldn’t be Harry Truman, JFK, or, RFK as we knew them.

Republicans? Hardly. Truman wanted universal health care. Republicans have fought forever against that. JFK, well read his speeches fer God’s sake. RFK started out as a tough guy, but then softened and became a real populist. I think that’s part of what we’re seeing with Edwards, but for slightly different reasons.

None of those guys were slimeballs like Nixon, Bush, Cheney, Rove, et al.

President Bush on Thursday nominated Diane J. Humetewa, a member of the Hopi Indian tribe, to serve as the next U.S. attorney for Arizona.

If the U.S. Senate confirms the nomination, Humetewa would fill the position that was vacated by U.S. Attorney Paul Charlton, one of eight U.S. attorneys fired nationwide in a Justice Department purge.

If you had asked me at the beginning of the campaign whether Hillary’s strategy would have her ahead of the pack, I would have said no … but she is and if I can help any of them with my knowledge, I’d be glad to do so.

dk just hit on my hesitation with edwards… i love what he says about trade now – but when he was in the senate, i don’t think voted the way he talks now… (or am wrong about that?)

Perhaps he’s changed. These days, there’s an idea that no candidate should ever change a position on anything ever. If a position changes, then that’s something suspicious. That’s simply not a normal idea. That’s not a thinking candidate. That is Bush.

but edwards explains his pro-worker stance as a something that came from growing up in a working-class family… if he had an explanation for his (apparent – i could be wrong about this) change on trade, etc… well, i’d feel more comfortable.

i did read that stiglitz was advising edwards – i think that’s a good thing.

I am so sick of this whole thing. I loathe and despise every single one of them. They’re all worthless trash, prepresenting no one but the corporations.
