OT – just dropping in late:
this is from an email i received today entitled “Update from Senator John Cornyn” (R-Texas), and is truly sick:

“I was recently privileged to present Gold Medals of Remembrance at Fort Bliss in El Paso to eight children who have lost a father during the war on terror. This is a relatively new award, the first honoring children, and recognizes that sacrifices in defending freedom are not limited to those who volunteer.”

Great — Rethugs using kids as props…

“Privileged to present”???

I would have said “Saddened to Present”. You put them into a war that results in them losing their father and you offer them a gold trinket. Do only kids that don’t criticize what you stole from them and their families get the trinket, Mr. Cornyn?

And defending freedom? Some would have some doubts that what we are defending in Iraq is “freedom”…except perhaps the “freedom” to become a refugee from ethnic cleansing, to embezzle millions of tax dollars if you are a high Iraqi official, and the freedom to shoot civilians without consequence if you are a Blackwater employee.

Jumped out of the re-enacted trial testimony juxtaposed with actual commentary…their idea of the unholy trio: Marx, Darwin, Freud.
Something to consider?

Darwin was an Anglican, trained for the ministry at Cambridge, but agnostic later in his life. Marx and Freud were secular, non-practicing Jews. In fact, they were for all intents and purposes atheists. I find that the ID’ers are in all respects “fundamentalist Abrahamists”…their publicly stated position could fit well with fundamentalists of Islam (in fact ,they are supporters of Harun Yahya, who adapts much of the Creationist/ID material to the Islamic world), or some branches of Judaism.

The leaking of the ID Movements Wedge Document was important for two major reasons. It showed that the ID Movement was simply “Creationism with lipstick”, a non-Scientific Theory that intended to use religious pressure groups to achieve its goals.

And the goals? That is manifest in the term “The Wedge”. Evolution was simply the first point of entry to destroy the edifice of rationalism and replace it with “faith-based” “supernaturalism”. Darwin, Freud and Marx were seen as the easy targets of Rationalism…although one could have substituted Adam Smith for Marx, actually. The ID movement intended to replace “materialism” (the idea that observable and comprehensible forces in the natural world explains conditions…cause and effect, environment and biological interactions, historical and cultural impacts influence behavior, etc.) with “supernaturalism”.

History would be taught with the idea of prophecy being imminent…reversing effect with cause in the sequence of causation. The legal system would be remastered with the supernatural concepts of evil and impact on the goals of God, rather than examining mitigating circumstances. Thus if a murder had the impact of affirming a spiritual mission it would be forgiven, but not if the individual had been abused by the individual repeatedly (environment). Concepts of “relativism” would be eliminated, with absolutism substituted. Thus a dualistic world would be placed into existance…with good on one side, evil on the other. There would be no weighing of costs/benefits, no discussion of the relative harm or good that might accrue from an action.

Spitzer’s approval ratings had dropped almost 20% over the last month, and the attacks on Hillary (who defended Spitzer) at the Democratic Presidential debate certainly didn’t help that. I got the impression that the other candidates were willing to thrown Spitzer under the bus TO ATTACK HILLARY.

How can you doubt the greatness of a candidate courageous enough to admit what a mistake he made a few short years ago, when he labelled the Jeebus-CEO of Liberty University as an extremist?

I tell you, it brought TEARS to my eyes, to observe John (clearly having seen the “I- HAVE-to-have-the-base-vote-to-stay-alive” light) down on his knees, to receive Jerry’s (and God’s!) endorsement.

And now, it breaks my heart that when Jerry did the Big Sky Hop, McCain turned out to have been politically fellating the wrong man of God, as Rudy bolted underneath Robertson’s cassock, to steal the snake-twirler manna for himself.

McCain’s next move is to dress up as Slim Pickens and get a campaign video made of himself hat-whipping a big JDAM onto Teheran.
If that doesn’t work, maybe he can get some photo-ops of himself tongue-wrestling with george bush. That way, Bobo can tell us about McCain’s “greatness”, as he climbs onto junior’s ebola-virus-slathered coattails.

Can anyone deconstruct that for me? I mean, it is obviously absurd on its face, but what was he really saying?

That he’s a virulent HATER. Note that all the individuals referred to are women…including the implicit Hillary.

It suggests that Janet Reno is actually a male cross-dresser. HATE.
It suggests that Hillary Clinton was unfaithful. HATE.
It p[lays into the whole “Hillary is a lesbian”, thing. HATE.
It suggests that Chelsea is illegitimate. HATE.
It suggests that Chelsea is ugly. HATE.

Imagine the cruelty buried deep in the soul of a man that would attack a teenage girl as being ugly and illegitimate? Those are two things that one should NEVER tell children. McCain managed to do that in one sick “joke”.

Would he have tolerated anything like that being directed at his own daughters? Would he have tolerated the attack on HIS WIFE?

Yet this man referred to by Broder as exuding “greatness” did all these things. And he still believes that his sick jokes are “funny”…as in his recent “Bomb, Bomb, Bomb Iran” joke.

It’s almost as if something stunted part of McCain’s psyche so that he remains an immature adolescent when it comes to realizing the consequence of his words.
