That’s a neat site….according to it, there’s only one free wifi about 15 miles away. Not terribly convenient for frequent use but doable.

to see if you have an airport card:
1) click on the blue apple (top left of your screen) and select “about this mac”
2) click on the “more info” button
3) under network, select “airport card” and see what it says.

you’ll probably need your tech guru to help you set it up the first time (after the set up it is a snap). best would be if he’ll go with you to whatever free wifi spot you plan to use.

and there may be something closer that’s not listed…. for example, your local public library may have something, but limited to residents of the area.

even a neighbor might be willing to let you “borrow” theirs for a few minutes - before my neighbors got their computer and internet connection, the dad used to occassionally “borrow” mine. i even set up an account for him on my imac so he could use my computer while keeping all my stuff private. (these were the same neighbors who were taking care of my 5 cats for weeks while i was with my dad). but it wouldn’t be a big deal to help you out, since you are bringing your own computer… and if you already have the list put together of the files you want to download it should not take long.

Somebody by the name of Roger Cohen writes an op-ed in today’s NYT about how we should all watch Al Jazeera English and bemoaning the fact that so few cable companies carry the channel. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11.....ref=slogin
However, never once does he say that you can watch it online, let alone providing a link. What a jerk.

Sounds like wifi helped save your sanity while sitting with your da in hospital.

Since I NEVER do anything on-line that involves money, that shouldn’t be a problem. Jane probably hates having to deal with my paper checks. *g*
