Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, hell yeah!
If this band sounds familiar, it’s because they were the backing band on Amy Winehouse’s “Back to Black” album.

Ann Althouse @ 3
A day late and a
dollareuro short. So …… if two threads are only 30 minutes apart, is it OK to blog-whore twice since most of the late night people won’t see the first one?
http://frecklescassie.wordpres…..he-senate/
’tis good to be me again.
Poor thread.
It seemed so funny when I wrote it.
Well, it’s lovely up here now, isn’t it?
Oooh, quick context swap! Dizzying…
It sure is, TRex, and I am really digging the video!
I am definitely feeling the effects of a full week of fuckery. I just want to pull the covers over my head and stay there until the car comes to take me to the airport next Wednesday.
Hiya TRex! How are you?
wha’ happened to the altmouse?
Dang, I get home late and miss all kinds of shenanigans and tomfoolery. Is everyone back to themselves? I’m quite proud to say I have never seen this Ann person, nor read any of her so-called work. Judging from the way our favorite theropod responds to her flackery, I think I made the right choice.
Good evening everyone!
burnspbesq @ 12
You and me both. Except I’m not going anywhere.
burnspbesq @ 12
That only works if you have chocolate, a good book, and a cell phone inside the covers.
EvilDrPuma @ 16
You still funny, EvilDr.!
hey all…
TeddySanFran @ 14
Little ol’ jug ran dry?
;>)
Where are you off to on Wednesday, burns?
Hey Cassie, great blogposts,as usual.
What song were we dancing to on FB, by the way?
SnarKassandra @ 17
And it helps if your cell phone is fully charged…
I like to curl up with a good book or someone who’s read one….
hey OC and madmommy
madmommy @ 21
Am I dancing on FB????
Whew! Had to get the industrial grease cutter to remove the Althouse.
EvilDrPuma @ 16
Hmmmmm. Aren’t y’all both married? I am not sure you are allowed to be under the same covers for five whole days together.
SnarKassandra @ 24
You sent me a dance earlier this evening, I just got it when I got home.
Hey LL, how ya doin dahlin!
TRex, here’s a man you might like to meet
Very tall
And single!
I think that’s why people get married, Cassie. They finally found someone they want to spend five days in bed with.
madmommy @ 27
Oh yeah! Duh! Texas two step.
hey, LL
Hey! I have a 3 day weekend! it’s Veteran’s Day on Sunday!
madmommy @ 28
Doin’ just fine, how you?
OldCoastie @ 18
My humor has been strained this week. Seems to be coming back now.
SnarKassandra @ 26
not to mention their both being male. aren’t two males in bed under the covers still illegal in some places?
TRex @ 30
But Burns and EDP are not married to each other! (right?)
Dang, I had the blond wig on and I just opened a nice box of Chateau du Cardboard and now I gotta change back into me.
SnarKassandra @ 36
still illegal.. they can have a civil union in some states tho
persiflage @ 37
We’ll do it again, sometime, Pers.
TeddySanFran @ 14
Pseudonym?
TeddySanFran @ 29
“I will take him home and call him George. I will love him and hug him and he will be my friend.”
Uh… nightmares…
OldCoastie @ 32
Sweet! I’m going in for some overtime on Sunday, so I can get the double-time-and-a-half ;-)
persiflage @ 37
Heh heh!
Suzanne @ 38
maybe they went to boston last year.
Oops, aheh. I think I misunderstood the question.
persiflage @ 37
you funny too, Persi!
Suzanne @ 35
I wasn’t thinking of the same covers. The room is a double.
Suzanne @ 35
You mean, being Republican and exchanging cash for the favors doesn’t trump that?
;>)
LoudounLib @ 33
SSDD. Spent a week trying to get the little guy to ride the bus. After jumping through hoops to get him on it, he has now decided he will not board the bus in the am. He’s perfectly happy to ride it home, but since his life’s goal is to torture me, he will not co-operate in the mornings. Argh.
hoo boy madmommy, the little guy knows how to push those buttons eh?
persiflage @ 37
Somebody on DKos was using your name in vain, Sheila!

madmommy @ 50
give his lunchbox to the bus driver and he will go on to get it back.
LoudounLib @ 51
I’m getting teenage attitude from a 4 year old. He got mad at me today, yelled FINE and stomped off to his room. Dose anyone know of a good boarding school for pre-schoolers??
WTF??????? I go away come back get a 404 refresh and pass into an alternate universe.
SnarKassandra @ 53
Oh Cassie, that is so you! Bet it works, too.
Hello Again.
Here’s demi, mommybrain, newtonusr and mr. demi last weekend at the socal meet-up.
SnarKassandra @ 53
Big kid packs a lunch, little guy eats in the cafeteria.
madmommy @ 51
Heh, I’d like to get my thirteen year old son to go to school, count your blessings, MM! *g*
Steve-AR @ 55
it self destructed
Steve-AR @ 55
It was a bad thread. People’s feelings were hurt. I had to take it out behind the barn and shoot it.
CT, why won’t he go to school?
Evening, all!
LoudounLib @ 20
Toronto. For about the seventh or eighth time this year. Maybe I’ll finally catch up with Petro this time.
I think that by the end of the year I will have flown more miles in 2007 than in any previous year. Looking at right around 80K.
TRex @ 39
S’okay Big Fella, I guess I like playing pretend more than most folk.
Hi Alicia!
TRex @ 62
Hurt feelings with the Late Nite crowd?
MMommy, it sounds like you could have your work cut out for you there. When is his birthday?
CTuttle @ 59
I know, he’s really making great progress. He’s just got his way of doing things, and it doesn’t always mesh with mine. We’re both stubborn as mules so the next decade or two should be interesting!
Happy 3-day weekend, Snarkita!
TRex @ 61
Thanks for letting us know…
hey Alicia! Did I see somewhere that you’re going to be in DC?
TRex @ 62
Can ya repost the links of AA’s pursuit of you and GG? 8-)
TRex @ 68
September 12
madmommy @ 69
stubborn’s not so bad.
SnarKassandra @ 63
He’s ‘Medically’ Home-schooled… BP1 and ADHD!
CTuttle @ 52
I wouldn’t have minded authoring that. Bet you did a double-take when you saw that “Persi was in Vietnam?”
what is BP1?
BP1..I’ve got a touch of the BPH but BP1?
persiflage @ 78
That was the clincher, fortunately, it was within the first line…! *g*
It was a Good Post, too…
LoudounLib @ 72
I am – I’m really excited. I’m going to a blogger conference sponsored by Americans United for Separation of Church and State. They’re going to have workshops on how to lobby, and setting up appointments with our Congresscritters and such. Leaving tomorrow morning and staying till Tuesday.
I haven’t been to Washington since I was a kid, and I can’t wait.
And here’s Burns, who is not married to EDP. Demi is toasting him.
Steve-AR @ 80
Bi-Polar!
Are my eyes playing tricks on me, or is that Booker T. & the MGs playing behind Joe Walsh on this clip?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EuYBWcaDTbM
So if any Pups are in the DC area, let me know – I’d like to say hi.
Alicia @ 81
That sounds great — hope you enjoy! I’m about 40 miles west of DC, and would love to meet you, but my work schedule won’t allow for it :-(
Annnyway, the problem with summoning Altmouse is, who WAS Altmouse in the first place.
This was always a well-guarded secret. *I* was always in the dark.
madmommy @ 54
When I was working like mad to finish my PhD, one evening my (then) four year old didn’t want to quit playing with his toys and come to dinner. I tried being reasonable . . . “It’s dinnertime. Put down the toy, come eat, and you can play with it later.”
Says the four year old: “Daddy, go to the study, work on your dissertation, and leave me alone.”
I was not amused, and Mrs. Peterr did not help matters by laughing about it for the next week.
Loo Hoo. @ 82
Fun pics, Loo Hoo!
TRex @ 62
Did it cry and beg for its life like a little piggy?
Steve-AR @ 67
WTF? Boo Hoo.
Must be madmommy’s lil rascal that was mad!
burnspbesq @ 84
from the same clapton crossroads guitar festival, JT and JW wowing the crowd
madmommy @ 74
ACK!!
Baby Virgo!!
Okay, here’s the deal. Virgos, I have found, tend to live a lot in what I call “The Is/Ought Gap”, which is the gap between what is and how it actually ought to be. They have to be made to understand that the world simply isn’t fair all the time. And while they yearn, yearn, yearn for things to be like they want them to be, they can waste a lot of time and miss out on a lot by being stubborn and refusing to participate in what they consider to be wrong.
Right now, your mancub does not understand why you can’t just do what he wants in this regard. He wants to extend the time he gets to spend with you in the morning, postpone that line of separation between Home w/Mommy and School. I would try to explain to him that it would be very, very helpful to Mommy for him to cooperate, that you could use that time for all the things that Mommy has to do in the course of a busy day. It seems to me that if you appeal to a Virgo person’s sense of Duty and tell them that they are being A Good Person and Doing the Right Thing and how much you admire them for being Strong and Brave, they’ll fall right into line.
That’ll be five cents, please.
[/Lucy Van Pelt]
Thers @ 88
Hey, you’re at bat tomorrow nite… ;-)
Peterr @ 88
Never, ever try to reason with a four year old. You will never win. I would have laughed too, though. The little guy cracks me up every day, but I have to go in another room sometimes so he doesn’t see it. Wrecks that whole parental authority thing, ya know.
I like your pix Loo Hoo.
Loo Hoo..a couple of links for you

Suzanne @ 93
Ooh, Ma Cheri, you’re getting bold and audacious with DSL… *g*
LoudounLib @ 89
It was a great, fun day. I only wish I could go to the cottage too…
TRex @ 93
Then ask them to kick the football while
TRexLucy holds it . . .Loo Hoo. @ 99
Me too :-(
TeddySanFran @ 90
You mean like David Addington will when he is brought to The Hague?
What do you know about people born on Novem 1?
TRex @ 93
As a Virgo, I’d like to point out a more elegant solution: tell him there’s a PRIZE on the bus. By the end of the school day, your treachery will be forgotten.
How day two will work out, it’s hard to say.
No, I took it by surprise. I told it to look out over the water, look, there, can you see it? A pretty, pretty boat and I think there’s…there is! There’s a PONY on it, and they’re bringing it just for you! Do you see it? Look there! Look!
(BANG!!)
madmommy @ 95
When my then four year old Patty demanded to be carried on the walk up the beach, I told her : ” We can walk, or go home” — and then she promptly picked up the rock she had in her possession and hit me in the head.
Loo Hoo. @ 99
speaking of the cottage
I will be hosting a SF Bay Area Nor Cal Central Cal fire pup meet up at the little cottage by the creek in the redwoods on 11/17, Sat afternoon until it is over. Since I live in the temperate rain forest known as Boulder Creek, I thought an hors d’oeuvres potluck would be a good event to be able to transition indoors from the deck in case of rain. Soft drinks provided – bring other beverages of choice with you.
RSVP by email to: ten67x at gmail dot com
TRex @ 93
I will try this, my appeals thus far to him being a “big boy ona bus” have failed miserably. He has been a challenge since the day he was born and barely nursed for 6 days. If he had been the first one, he’d have been the only one.
(flips Buffalo Head nickle to TRex)
SnarKassandra @ 103
Don’t EVEN get me started on Scorpios.
OT,but really good program on History Channel (EST) about bloggers in Iraq.
Christine Edmonson @ 106
oh no! what did you do?
Christine Edmonson @ 106
707!
TRex, this Virgo happens to take offense with this notion of your’s… “they can waste a lot of time and miss out on a lot by being stubborn and refusing to participate in what they consider to be wrong.” I’m certainly not stubborn… :P
Mm. Yeah. What’s your birthday?
CTuttle @ 113
*snort!*
I will try this, my appeals thus far to him being a “big boy ona bus” have failed miserably. He has been a challenge since the day he was born and barely nursed for 6 days. If he had been the first one, he’d have been the only one.
i used to say that it was good that daughter #1 was born first because if daughter #2 had been first, it woulda cured me of wanting another child pdq
I may have offered this one up before, but it’s one of my favorite Lyle Lovett songs:
Church
SnarKassandra @ 111
Cassie, it was the only time I ever “saw stars” and then picked up that mad, adorable baby girl and promptly went home. No beach.
madmommy @ 108
My second son is one of those. Was like that from day one. He’s 10, and been asking about getting his own apartment since he was 7. (I’m not kidding.)
What is it about getting on the bus that he doesn’t like?
TRex @ 114
Mine is January 28, and the big kid is January 12
As a Virgo, I’d like to point out a more elegant solution: tell him there’s a PRIZE on the bus. By the end of the school day, your treachery will be forgotten.
How day two will work out, it’s hard to say.
—————————————–
Or you could use the reward system used in behaviour management. Every time he does something right, like getting on the bus in the morning he earn’s a gold star and gets to put it on a chart. If he has X number of gold stars at the end of the week, he gets a reward. If you’re interested I have a form somewhere around here that I made up when I was doing work experience in a psychology clinic. If I can find it, I could email it to you.
Speaking of mancubs, I have to go pick mine up at Disneyland. Traffic in that part of Anaheim is going to be hellacious — there are over 25,000 people at a high school football game at Angels Stadium.
Mortuari te salutat.
CTuttle @ 113
CT, I have come across this accusation of stubbornness from those I call “The Other Eleven Signs” often. It’s best to stubbornly ignore their silliness about stubbornness.
“You are so stubborn!”
“No, I am not!”
See?
Well, kids, it seems that being a Pisces means I get tired earlier than I used to. Be excellent to each other.
I love Scorpios, but I will never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, EVER, EVER, EVER date one again.
Ever.
Scorpio plus Gemini equals Very Bad Romantic Match.
However, I love Scorpios. They FEEL things so deeply. They’re always super smart and super passionate and perceptive. They understand the power of secrets, they love detective work and scientific experiments, discovering the hidden.
And Scorpios are widely known as being the sexiest sign of the Zodiac, and they’re always THE FIRST PEOPLE TO TELL YOU THAT.
Alicia @ 118
No freaking idea. After it leaves with his brother aboard he cries on the front porch for it to come back. Then we get in the car, I drive him to school and he rides the bus home at the end of the day, nice as pie. It’s jsut a bit of fun mommy-torture to start the day, as far as I can tell.
Fundy ex #2 was a virgo. ’nuff said
g’night EDP
TeddySanFran @ 123
Exactly! How can they not see it, it’s so transparent? *g*
CTuttle @ 113
I’m a virgo brat, and i think i wrote the book on it sometimes. My house was two Sagitarious(?) parents, an older virgo sister (me), the younger gemini brother. I’d say the stubborn contest was a draw between me and my mom. Ye gods it’s a wonder dad and my little bro LIVED while i was going through puberty.
Suzanne @ 115
My daughter #1 is daughter only for precisely that reason. She fills the space of seven kids….vocally, financially, and certainly in the cardiac department. But then she figured out how to reproduce.
And now our house has a second Taurus. Serves her right, too, heh. I’m the first Taurus.
Cancerians are lovely people. Like me, f’r instance *g*
Pen afficionados,
My Duofold True Blue arrived today, and it is even cooler than the photos suggest.
TRex @ 124
All that, and we Gemini can LISTEN for hours… is this a weakness or a strength?
burnspbesq @ 132
pen p*rn – gotta link there big guy?
persiflage @ 120
We’ve been doing that with both kids for a while. It has worked wonders but no amount of bribery or cajoling is working as far as morning bus rides go. I think he just wants to go in the car cause it’s different.
SnarKassandra @ 96
Good! Here’s Peanutbutter.
I don’t think I ever hit my mom with a rock, but I did ask her “when did you get to be so bad?” once when she was telling me how she was a GOOD little girl. That was not the right thing (for me) to say.
Ah, Madmommy, you are an Aquarius. Perverse, stubborn Contrarius!!
This will be a meeting of the minds.
My mom is a Feb. 7 Aquarius. I gave up trying to be more stubborn than her early on. There was just no waiting her out.
madmommy @ 125
What about assuaging his tears by driving just to the next bus stop where he can join his brother and the bus and (presumably) stop crying?
burnspbesq @ 132
Oh I HATE YOU1!!@21
I have wanted one of those since I was twelve.
SnarKassandra @ 137
Ouch!
I called my dad a “wiseguy” once when I was about 6. He was not amused.
TRex @ 138
So you’re telling me that there will be head-butting galore for the forseeable future? I’m kinda getting used to it, actually.
Aw, I bet he’s a hoot. Just kind of gamely and blithely watching the crockery sail by overhead.
Except when he’s being a neurotic mess, of course.
The great thing about Geminis is that none of our moods really seem to last very long.
“I wish I was like you,
Easily amused…”

aliasofwestgate @ 130
My wife is Sagittarius, however, my younger sister is Gemini, and, I’m not sure if it’s the signs or sibling rivalry… ;-)
LoudounLib @ 141
I didn’t even know it was an insult. I figured for sure she KNEW she was bad. I knew and I was only 7!
TeddySanFran @ 139
Tried it. No go.
Evening, all!
Just found out today I have a three day weekend. So it’s starting off nicely ;-)
Is somebody on the bus mean to him Madmommy? Or does the bus driver threaten something if they don’t shut up?
hi pb, aren’t holiday weekends great?
peanutbutter @ 147
Congrats! A nice surprise for a friday.
peanutbutter @ 147
Happy weekend!
I just saw your picture :)
TRex @ 105
is there a PETA for threads?
Madmommy, daughter #1 and i had a similar contest of wills. She got pink eye and the drops the doc gave stung. I got the first set of drops in but 4 hours later, it was time for another dose.
Told her it was time for the drops and she looked at me crossed her arms and said no. I reminded her that I was the mom, she was the kid and we could do it the easy way or the hard way.
The little beotch cocked her hip and said ‘the hard way’
about the time way came out of her mouth, she was prone on the ground (i swept her knees out from behind her and guided her down), and i had one knee of each shoulder. by then, she was screaming, i put the drops in each eye, got off her, picked her up, dusted her off and sent her on her way
4 hours later – time for more drops
she says no
i said the easy way or the hard way
she hemmed and hawed for about a minute and finally said, the easy way
Cassie, you should know that my Patty is now a 24 year old graduate student, all grown up and now headed into the realm of “real choices” — she cringes at the story of the rock, and then laughs her ass off! I love her independence and her basically “f**k you attitude.
Suzanne @ 134
http://www.made2shop.com/parke…..-1894.html
“click to enlarge” is your friend.
SnarKassandra @ 148
Thought about that but he sits up front; littlest kids in the front, boys on one side girls on the other. If that were the case he wouldn’t want to ride home either, but he does with no complaint. Mommy torture, I’m certain of it.
madmommy @ 135
OK, then stop making a fuss, maybe that’s what he’s after. Tell him you don’t care one way or the other. As long as you seem to care so very much about it, it gives him something to lock horns over. If you don’t care, where’s the fun and power in that?
peanutbutter @ 147
it’s an awfully good surprise, isn’t it? I didn’t know until Wednesday and that made for a very good week…
Me virgo. Me not stubborn.
Wait, I’ll ask my scorpio spouse.
Suzanne that sounds a little like me.
I declare!
Sharon Jones?!?! I saw her while I was working in Toronto about 5 years ago. It was in a small club and holy shit, what a show! Thanks for the link…I had sorta forgotten about her. Time for me and her music to get caught up!
Uh.
Yeah.
I’m an air sign like you. I’m always the person saying to the Virgo, “Oh, just come on. Get over it.” while the Virgo stamps their foot and shouts, “But it’s the PRINCIPLE of the damn thing!” and I’m all, like, “You can’t eat principles, man, and I need to eat.”
And that’s where Virgos and I hang up, every time.
burnspbesq @ 155
Ooooh, that’s purty.
I will try this, my appeals thus far to him being a “big boy ona bus” have failed miserably. He has been a challenge since the day he was born and barely nursed for 6 days. If he had been the first one, he’d have been the only one.
My second daughter was/is the same. If she had been #1, she would have been the only one too. At six weeks, I fed her scrambled eggs and refried beans. It was the first time she stopped crying and slept for about 5 hours. I had tried the rice cereal and other baby foods, but nooooo. Girl was hungry and never has been satiated.
LoudounLib @ 149
Yay! ;-)
TRex @ 143
Sadly, he’s in the neurotic mess category. Several arrests, two kids (no custody of either) and can’t seem to hold a job. *sighs* He seems to think i sailed through everything just fine, when i worked my butt off for what i got and worked the system where i could. He seems to think he can flip the system off and not get caught. (which is the key. don’t get CAUGHT. i didn’t!)
He’s not sneaky enough, though he’s got all the smarts for it. We’re both mercurial as our token planet, but i can focus easier than him. I tried to give him an idea of how to do so but he never seemed to absorb the lesson. Last i heard he’s holding a job somewhere and his natural dad’s new wife (we’re both adopted) has knocked some sense into him to try to do what he’s failed at for so long. Figures it would be an ‘outsider’ he’d listen to.
hey kirk. you coming for the meetup here next saturday?
Suzanne @ 153
HA! I had to do the same with the big kid last weekend. Sat on him and pried his lids open every four hours. Such joy. The little guy standing off to the side yelling at his brother to “be nice or go timeout!”
burnspbesq @ 155
Pretty, but holy crap! over 500 bucks for a pen?! :0)
Just home from kicking some serious butt playing classical music to school kids down in Kenai, Alaska. Long, long…. ride on the tour bus. The driver ONLY listens to and watches FAUX, ’cause “they know the truth when they see it.”
Don Young’s Communication Director, Meredith Kenny, called my house (!!!) today, while I was gone to clarify this:
I also heard late last night from my bodyguard, that the Alaska Lodges of the Masonic Scottish Rite have been forced by the Washington DC and Charleston, SC Carolina Lodges to knight Representative Don Young this Saturday morning at the Anchorage Sheraton. The Alaska lodges are upset, as they had no input on the decision, and some lodges – like the one in Valdez – are upset that knighting a person under investigation by the FBI is quite unprecedented, and could potentially sully the honor for the other members receiving that same honor.
good grief…
Per The San Francisco Chronicle, DiFi strikes again:
Is there no end to this worman’s treasonous treachery?
Here’s a nice story with a local angle:
VA puppy mill busted
Can I just ask, is he later in June, like June 12-19?
mighty fine stir stick you got there, et, and you weld it very well
TRex, i’m usually the one telling others to get over it. *laughs*
For some reason, i’m the Virgo that figured out how to let things flow. I roll with the punches no matter the chaos or the insanity. People drive me BATTY at work, i shrug and get over it. heh.
Everything else i’ve read tells me i’m supposed to be the neurotic mess as a picky Virgo. Then again, being born so close to the end of the Leo sign at Aug 26th? May have something to do with that. ^^
Ed*ard Teller @ 170
whoa! THAT’S pretty interesting…!
TRex @ 173
May 29th
That’s no pen, that’s a Duofold, built from the same specs as they were nearly a century ago.
The treaties that ended World Wars One and Two were both signed with Parker Duofolds. It’s not so much a pen as an institution, a piece of history.
And I have to say, that’s the most beautiful design I’ve seen of all of them. That’s the one that’s closest to the original design, isn’t it, Burnsy?
Suzanne @ 167
Hi Suzanne
(scans upthread)
wow – what fun! i’ll see if i can cahnge my sat schedule – i’d like to join y’all.
how nice of you to invite us – thanks.
TRex @ 162
Oh Gawd. I used that very argument tonight at work, whenwe wer talking about cell companies and I brought up imunity and told my co-workers that telecom imunity was a big deal. They literally had never heard anything about it. One of them piped up with “well, I’ve got nothing to hide…”. It took all I had to calmly remind her that it is indeed, the principle of the thing, instead of shaking her by the shoulders till her teeth rattled.
peanutbutter @ 147
Hey hey! Did you see the pics upthread? Here’s Old Coastie.Suzanne @ 153
Suzanne @ 153
Whoo boy, Suz. Good on you!
aliasofwestgate @ 175
My sister’s birthday is Aug 24 and she’s not a typical Virgo either. Sure she has some Virgo attributes but then, so do I, and I’m a Saggitarian.
kirk murphy @ 179
Sounds like fun! Bit of a drive though :(
Suz, if I didn’t have to work that weekend (and if I had the extra scratch right now) I would SO be at your place for the NorCal meetup…
he-he…. geez, LooHoo… I think I look vaguely evil in that pic!
;-)
NO FAIR! NO FAIR!
My cousin is sick, but he gets to stay up past MY bedtime AND sleep on the couch AND listen to books on tape while he falls asleep.
NO FAIR! NO FAIR! NO FAIR! NO FAIR!
bye!
I always remind those people that it’s a matter of time before something they do becomes illegal. They have no idea how suddenly they may need to hide something. That’s the problem.
peanutbutter @ 165
Me too! I’m actually going to make FRUITCAKE for Christmas. My co-worker and I are making two huge cakes, and I think that this year I’ll dunk it in scotch. Last year we used dark rum, and I think that it was too strong.
*dangling bait*
teddysf and egregious will be here for the meetup
SnarKassandra @ 186
Time for a filibuster, Cassie!
SnarKassandra @ 186
Sweetie, life is seldom fair. Get used to it. Next time you’re sick you’ll get to do the same.
Suzanne @ 189
S’not fair! mumble, grumble, tyranny of distance, mumble, grumble, grump.
madmommy at 135 Could you take away something that he really enjoys, like his favorite TV show or, much more drastic, all TV until he complies?
TRex @ 187
These are God-fearing Baptist women we’re talking about here. Might take a while. /s
persiflage @ 192
Exactly, persi :-(
Now, see, that’s interesting. I’m May 30th and so is my twin and I have a lot of friends whose birthdays are right around in here at the end of May, and while we’ve all gone through flaky periods, we tend to get it firmly back in the road most of the time. Comeback kids.
Maybe your brother will surprise you.
Suzanne @ 174
Not exactly a $500 pen, but thanks!
madmommy @ 194
they do not grasp the concept of he who is without sin casting the first stone?
Is there no end to this worman’s treasonous treachery?
Apparently not, wigwam. And ET, that’s some interesting info. Who would have thought that the Masons in DC and SC could control Alaska? Are the Alaskan Masons going to roll over, you suppose?
Gotta go back and read Steve AR’s links…
CTuttle @ 144
Hey, CTuttle, did you see the segment on Countdown today featuring the Big Island’s dunes of waste plastic? What part of Big Isle is that oceanic garbage dump?

Those who claim they’ve “got nothing to hide” need a brisk refresher on the difference, in American society, between secrecy and privacy.
skeptic @ 193
Thought about that, but at age 4 I don’t want to make going to school a bad experience. He loves his class and his teachers and can’t wait to get there. His speech is improving dramatically. So for now I guess I will be the one taking him and he can ride the bus home. Next year, if he promotes to kindergarden, his butt is on that bus!
*ndfg looks around in bewilderment, this isn’t the Late Nite thread i saw before cooking some supper … scurries behind boathouse and scrubs off skanky blond Rethug makeup*
hey pups! late to the party because i was talking serious astrology with a girlfriend. Is this my night or what!
Us Virgos are very helpful folk, and as such, i’ll helpfully tell you that if you’re having trouble with a virgo in your life, it’s because you can’t deal with perfection. You’re just jealous. Of course, my perfection is tempered a bit with Aries rising, yanno, the READY FIRE, uhh, aim syndrome.
I love me some Sagittarians, too, but mercy, always so busy.
How many Sagittarians does it take to change a light bulb?
Oh, I dunno, can we talk about this when I get back from India?
I know people around here have been getting upset and discouraged by the recent actions of some “Dem leaders,” but I think it’s been fantastic!
Things are becoming much more clear. There’s no question anymore on where certain Dems stand. Since I started railing on many of these same people in the mid to late 90s, I’ve gotten pretty used to being chastised by fellow Liberals about the need to support the “lessor of two evils,” and “the best we’re gonna get.” Seems like that kind of talk will end now that DiFi’s, Lieberman’s, etc. true colors are shining bright!
Of course, if a Clinton is elected again, it’ll be like starting over from square one. Well, almost since we have a netroots infrastructure now to serve as watchdog, but it’ll be a huge step back in regards to making the general public understand.
Suzanne @ 189
Suzanne, what time?
Am I the only Cancerian in the joint tonight? We’re really not all that crabby…honest! *g*
Ed*ard Teller @ 197
I think the Masons are a rather law-and-order bunch. My grandpa was, anyway. And if others are being knighted the same day, they will always be remembered as having been knighted with the Congressman. Especially when he’s indicted.
Good evening dear friends. 200 comments in 45 minutes. Impressive!
I’ve been invited to a third birthday party this weekend, and this is the cake I included on my card. Anyone need a fork?
Suzanne @ 198
Irony is lost on this crowd. They are truly nice people, and I feel like a total hypocrite much of the time. But I need the job and it works for me kid-wise. So I try to do a bit of educating here and there and just keep my mouth shut the rest of the time.
When people say ‘I have nothing to hide’ tell them that the indentity theif that steals their name may have something to hide.

TRex @ 196
I hope so! I miss my younger brother a lot at this point. He’s put himself through hell trying to figure out where he stands i think. I caught onto the social game pretty quickly around 16 and discarded it deliberately. He’s too easily pressured by things and other people. He has the strength, so i’m really hoping he figures it out! Not just for him, but also for his two daughters as well. He’s got potential to be a great dad, once he gets his feet back on the ground.
I don’t think he could see the patterns i caught onto early. He was pulled in by the usual games and hurt by them as bad as i was. I grew some armor, he’s taking a little longer to figure out how.
LoudounLib @ 207
*waves hand* Moon in Cancer! thas why I loves me some Cancers. (my three best friends in childhood were all Cancers, still are *g*)

Not this little Saggitarian duck. I’m told I started life busy but I’ve slowed considerably as time has passed.

Oh, Cancer. So sweet. So sensitive. You’re like big crabs, you’re all, like, “I’m TOUGH! Watch out for my pinchers!! YAAR!! YAAR!!”, but beneath that tough shell, you’re all gooshy and delicious inside.

So, so unfair to have to be the kid with the fever who needs to go use the bathroom every five minutes and can’t climb up and down on a bunk bed. Oh yeah, it was the OTHER one who was complaining!

Um, well, I’m another one of those Virgos. Could explain a lot. For me, it IS the principle of the damn thing! Take the Constitution for example. And the Bill of Rights.
Is Christy a Virgo?

Thx! Will try to make it.
Wow it’s almost midnight. Gotta hit the sheets, kiddie birthday party tomorrow for me as well. Goodnight all, and thanks for the good ideas!
TeddySanFran @ 216
yeesh…nightmare. I could first vote in 92, so my entire voting life will be ruled by Booshes and Clintons if Hilarity is elected. Ugh.
I think i’m a Virgo with a Scorpio Moon. Also, i find it amusing that i’m a Fire Snake in the chinese zodiac. Much alike between both interpretations and a lot different too.
I like making a fool of myself on stage (or on air as a DJ) as much as i love to help people in my job as a pharmacy tech. My friends though? All over the map. A few august, one other gemini, and several in october.
g’night madmommy, wishing you no kid battles tomorrow ;-)

Kerik Using Giuliani Connection To Raise Money For Legal Defense
by The Huffington Post News Editors
As we reported earlier, Bernard B. Kerik, the former New York police commissioner appointed by Rudolph W. Giuliani while he was mayor, was indicted today on charges that include tax fraud, obstruction of justice and lying to the White House.
Mr. Kerik, in the face of his troubles, has carried himself with what many would view as characteristic hubris, making frequent television appearances over the last year to speak as an expert on a range of subjects, from fighting terrorism to the war in Iraq. And despite public statements that he has stayed away from Mr. Giuliani, he has done little, it seems, to distance himself from the former mayor or President Bush; there are several pictures of him with both men on the Web site for his consulting business and he has used a photograph of himself with the former mayor on a separate site set up to raise money for his legal defense.

Oh, my other close friend is an Aries. We somehow make a scary set of research nuts in the anime fandom. We dug up every possible reference in our favorite manga and figured out where the authoress is going with things. So far we’ve not been proven wrong. *evil grin*
Lots of talk, tons of digging through sources and puns. ye gods the PUNS she comes up with. *gigglesnorts*

Reid Allowed Vote On Mukasey In Exchange For Military Funding Bill

The whole kabuki with the pre-arrange vote had to be a deal with the Thugs..my quess was to keep the Senate SCHIP vote intact..but the Military Bill without War funding makes more sense.

Hey T, thanks for the Sharon Jones video. Buy as many Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings records as you can. I can’t stress this strongly enough. She is even more amazing live.
PS No I’m not her publicist.
