This song is everywhere now, but that doesn’t mean I don’t love it.
Actually, I love it more now than I did when I got the album.
Enjoy!

Alright, kids. My wonderful Neighbor Robin is here and we’re going to eat some Manchego and crackers before I fix myself some dinner.
Hey, T — did I see that your girl Amy has a new album coming out in two weeks?
TRex, I’m so liking this!

i want to get another external HD, and don’t have a clue about the comparative reliabilty… especially since i can’t (or at least i don’t know how to) use the s.m.a.r.t. warnings on external drives.
i have a couple of lacie external drives (and i really like the little d2 rack that lets me stack them), but then i read a bunch of complaints about their reliability so i next bought a maxor… but i really had no clue.
now, i’d like to get (i think) a 1T drive. any suggestions? is lacie ok or should i go with another manufacturer?

I’ve had terrific luck with the D2’s, but not all my clients have the same experience. But in almost all of those cases where they failed, the users moved them around a lot. They aren’t really portable, and when you stand them up and they fall over flat, well, you get the picture.

Reality Based News Feed
Before there was a Judy Miller the NY Times had a problem with star reporters making stuff up. Or in Judy’s case not checking sources, relying on sources that lied to her without confirming with a second independent source.
“Following the revelations of Blair’s deceit, The Times moved to uncover how management had allowed a young reporter with what appeared to be obvious problems to rise so quickly through the paper’s ranks. The Siegal committee, after a months-long investigation, found “a series of management and operation breakdowns” and “a stunning lack of communication within the newsroom.” It found that Blair’s quick advancement may have become favored as part of a “star system” that advanced some reporters close to then-executive editor Howell Raines. “He was given a regular tenured reporting job despite the misgivings of his immediate boss,” the report said of Blair. “He was put on high-profile national assignments with his new supervising editors receiving no notice of the serious problems that had marked periods in his previous four years at the newspaper.”

And selise – if you open a LaCie enclosure, it’s likely that you will find a Seagate or Maxtor or Western Digital drive inside.
I personally stay away from the Western Digitals, but until you look inside the case, or check in the System profiler, you don’t know.

that’s great news! i have my two (a 160 and a 250) for quite a while (don’t even remember when i bought them). they live with a dvd burner in one of the little d2 racks – room for one more! one of my cats sometimes likes to jump up on the top of the rack, but it doesn’t fall over.

ellie, i heard all kinda good stuff about how he helped out one of the socal pups at the meet up so i asked him – turns out he is a mac kinda guy but still was able to help this pc gal find what she needed :)
selise @ 84
I’m not thrilled with the idea of 2 drives in one enclosure, as the 500’s and 1 TB’s do. But until Seagate, the drive company I prefer, rolls out the 1 TB SATA’s in real quantities, that is what were stuck with.
BTW, the 800 mbps FireWire drives are verrrry nice if you have 800 on your Mac.
Judy Retired from the NY Times, Jayson was forced to resign. Jayson wrote a book many of us laughed at.
Judy still appears in the WallStreet Journal which I guess is the difference between retireing and being forced to resign.
“Since leaving the New York Times, Miller has continued her work as a writer in Manhattan and has contributed several op-ed pieces to The Wall Street Journal. On May 16, 2006 she summarized her investigations on U.S. foreign policy regarding Libya’s dismantling of its weapons programs in an essay spanning two days.”

things, i think judy i’m fuckin right miller is on wingnut welfare with that gig at the wsj – she’s not relaly doing anything there other than op-eds – not any real reporting that i am aware of.
darkblack @ 87
That song actually matches the anime used too. *giggles* As much as Edward chafes at the being a State Alchemist.(or outright disobeys orders) XD With ‘i gotta change this water to wine’ pretty much clinching it.

selise @ 101
IIRC, you replaced your iBook hard drive your self. That’s a daunting job, and I salute you for getting it done and the keeping the microphone and speakers working.
About your LaCie drives now – there is nothing keeping you from going out and buying new internals (ATA, not SATA) and installing them in place of the 160 and 250. For anyone who can tackle the iBook take-apart, it’s simple. But do them one at a time and transfer your data off before, of course.
Suzanne @ 109
what’s the fastest you’ve ever gone?
newtonusr @ 90
maybe that’s what i read warnings about (the 2 drives in one enclosure) and so didn’t go with lacie for my 500.
i’ve been buying seagate 2.5in for my laptop and portables – even though it was a seagate that failed on me… it’s that 5 year warranty that hooked me.

Janet Cooke a Washington Post Reporter who also won a Pulitzer Prize for her reporting resigned after her Pulitzer Prize winning story was found to be fake.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Janet_Cooke
Jayson Blair and Janet Cooke are both African American both have not worked in journalism since. Janet returned her Pulitzer Prize was she forced to behind the scenes I don’t know?
What I do know is Judy Miller still has her Pulitzer Prize, is still working at the Wallstreet Journal occasionally, and now has a movie coming out.
Never mind the different standards applied in these cases. By protecting Judy and giving her legitamacy the MSM is avoiding their sloppy reporting on the war.
Bush is avoiding how he manipulated all the “Judy’s” in the press to lie us into war.
If we can force her to give back the Pulitzer we will force history to question the reasons why we went to war.
that’s the one ellie… dayam fast car… my friend, roxie, who owned it, called it the yellow streak.
i was living in san francisco and they were living in fremont – about 40 miles south and across the bay – rox and her man left my apt in the city and called me 23 minutes later – from their home in fremont. yellow steak was well named
newtonusr @ 110
yeah – the first time was to save the $200 it would have cost me to have an apple tech replace the hd. i’ve now done it 4 times, but it is definately not something i would do for fun – way too much anxiety until everything is back together and working fine.
that’s a fracking brilliant idea about replacing the hd in the lacie enclosure (although i hate the idea of throwing away a working drive – waste not want not and all that).
Suzanne @ 120
indeed!
do they still make yellow cars? it’s late and my brain’s fogged in
they dont make pantera.. and yes for the yellow cars but mainly taxis.. don’t see very many yellow around other than cabs

I almost bought a yellow Honda Jazz last year but fell in love with the vivid blue.
Suzanne @ 123
ahh yes, yellow taxis. I didn’t think I’d seen any yellow cars lately.
I had a navy blue car once, lousy color for a car, it was like having a cloaking device, nobody seemed to see me.
darkblack @ 124
yikes! did you get away?
selise @ 121
Really, I had one that had been dropped and had a blown drive. I pulled it apart, thinking it would be assembled in such a way as to destroy the bridge when opened. Not so. I had an old 250 sitting around and slapped it in and it’s sitting here, running right now.
Suzanne @ 123
when i lived in CA i had a little yellow (almost chartruse) mgb for driving around with the top down in the santa cruz mountains on the weekends.
selise @ 67
No, I am. I didn’t recognize the name LaCie without the capitalized C. Also, I didn’t realize that they had bought the disk-drive company formerly known as Quantum.

well, i don’t know hd bridges from the kind i drive on… but i’m not one to let complete ignorance stop me from giving it a go (something about fools juming in would be appropriate about now).
here’s a 750 from seagate with a 5 year warranty.

p.s. i’m feeling a bit guilty for getting all this great free advice – i’m gonna owe you one!
g’nite ellie, sleep well

yeah, i miss the santa cruz mountains and i miss that little mgb. sold it in ‘92 when i moved to tx for grad school (for the same price i’d bought it for more than 10 years prior!).
‘course, now-a-days i couldn’t drive that car w/o a major attack of conscience (leaded gasoline, no catalytic converter and who knows how many gallons to the mile).
i like to think of you in your cabin in those mtns. very beautiful, and iirc near bonny doon winery.

Hey – I did this for a non-profit User Group for years before I hung out a shingle. I prefer the “We’re in the business of giving away information” model.
The 750 is bigger than I would go in the 160’s enclosure. The bridge, the circuit board inside that, among othe things, converts ATA to FireWire, is built for a lower data rate. I’d use a 500 in that one.
now you are rocking my grove, db

Hmmmmm. Protecting the American People is not in the president’s job description, but protecting the constitution is.
Reminds me of what Benjamin Franklin once said: “Those who would trade essential liberties for a bit of security, deserve neither liberty nor security.”
So, anyone who’d vote for a president who promises to protect them but fails to defend the constitution is a coward who deserves neither liberty nor security. For example, …
Maybe I ought to be posting this at LGF. ;-)
newtonusr @ 151
like this 500 from seagate?
although i think you’ve almost convinced me to go with the 1T lacie… a 160 to 500 upgrade only gets me an added 340…. although it may be something to do for it’s own sake if i can use the 160 in my imac (which only has the original 40!).
right now i use my 500 for backups. if i get a new1T for backups, i can use the 500 for added storage. at least that was my thinking.

Hi Steve!
All of the iMac G3’s will only take 128 gb maximum. You can put a larger drive in it, but only the first 128 gb can be addressed.
USB 2.0 iMac G4’s or later will take huge capacity drives.
selise @ 169
Cool machine. Ever take it apart? Make sure you get the cooling paste for the heat joints.
I thought it was a G3. This one will take a bigger drive.
I loved the song in the iPod (or iPhone) commercial, but I didn’t like the performance so much on SNL last week (when Brian Williams hosted.) It is a catchy tune though.

Dang, I might just trade being in the tall trees for having open sky.. I’ve got a large field not too far out front. The BF’s place is completely wooded, but on a ridge, and his back deck has a great eastern view of the sky, but trees and mountain on the other three sides..
Trying to get the kids interested in the night sky, and seeming to have some effect. Me and the boys watched for the persids and saw a few..
Mornin’ all!
santa cruz mountains at the north end of monterey bay, california, pma
hey twolf, hows the east coast this morning?
Suzanne @ 206
Pretty much urban sprawl from Dallas all around me. Still, folliage is turning nice and we’ve had nice weather for about 3 weeks.
Suzanne @ 206
Beautiful country Suzanne.
I’m just east of the Cohutta mountains in Fannin Co. GA. pma.

The east coast is still here despite Chimpy’s best efforts. I got up early to look at the moon and Venus (very bright now).
The frost is on the pumpkin and the kudzu shall die!

Suzanne @ 214
Good night. Pleasant dreams.

Northern Virginia election results:
Virginia Democrats Take Control of State Senate
And a very sweet result in my own district, where we did a massive Get Out The Vote:
Chap Petersen-D 55%
Jeannemarie Devolites Davis-R 45%
Cong. Tom Davis’ wife, the incumbent, is out!
It was supposed to be a very close race!
SNOOPY DANCE
And here’s my Dancing in the Streets youtube :)

Heh, Death to the Kudzu Monsters!
“Japan invades. Far Eastern vines
Run from the clay banks they are
Supposed to keep from eroding.
Up telephone poles,
Which rear, half out of leafage
As though they would shriek,
Like things smothered by their own
Green, mindless, unkillable ghosts.
In Georgia, the legend says
That you must close your windows
At night to keep it out of the house.”-From
“Kudzu” by James Dickey
MR. Bill @ 220
Now we get 6 moths of a cruddy looking arroyo behind the crib! We have learned to co-exist, if I mow every week it satys back.
raven @ 222
You could always plant bamboo (I have a nice variegated stand of dwarf) and have botanical warfare…
From the WaPo article on the VA State Senate:
They can’t find anybody to run! Nobody wants to be a Republican anymore, even in Virginia.
BWAHAHAHAHA!!
1,651 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND..
Citizen Raven and the Early mornin’ Firepup Freedom Fighters:
The rain has stopped up here on the frozen tunra and it’s gettin’ cold enuff ta snow but over hlaf a the SilverMaples still have all a their leaves…strange thongs goin’ on here in the heartland a democrazy and the anus a progress.
An arroyo sounds nice…waddiya usually have there at this time a year?
KEEP THE FAITH AND GLOBAL WARMIN’ WILL TAKE CARE A THE REST!!
I finally found a candidate I can support.
NorskeFlamethrower @ 225
Norkse, the leaves (remarkably colorful, and in a drought year) finally got the hard freeze that should end their show.
And what Raven calls an arroyo, I call a gully.
Arroyo is more picturesque.
shoot. i’m awake already…. even if it feels like my brain cells are all still asleep. this is going to be a 2x coffee day.
Very nice.
What’s his stance on immigration, reproductive rights and GLBT rights?
Kevin Hayden @ 226
Chris Matthews brother lost his election for republican county commissioner in pa tough nooogies
Good morning, pups. It’s MoDo and Friedman in the NYT today. MoDo does another imaginary W speech. She calls it “Mushy: Handsome in Uniform.” Enough, already. Please. Just once, MoDo, try to write something substantive. This stuff isn’t “cute.” Cripes… Mr. Friedman is in New Delhi writing about the dawn of “E2K.”

The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got bagels and cream cheese for y’all. It’s poppy seed for me, but I’m sure I’ve got your favorite flavor. Have a grand day.
mack @ 229
He’s a big fan of the UFW and vice-versa. He’s really, really, really into lots of reproduction and he seems to have done that right.
On GLBT rights, I’m not so sure. He kept trying to lock the door of Hoover’s closet.
I love this song– I have it on the mp3 player in my car and I play it all the time. I love the video too– I love the dancing.
Good mroning Marion. I could sure use an onion bagle.
Katherine, Digby is ragging on Tweety’s comment:
“This gender thing is so tricky. Here’s my theory. Men voted in the first part of the last century to give women the vote. They had all the votes and decided to share them. They thought, ‘they’re smart, we’re married to them, if momma’s not happy nobody’s happy’ sort of thing.”(Chris Matthews, from Hardballyesterday).
http://digbysblog.blogspot.com/ The comments are…well, fun.
In one more year, the day after Election Day, I hope to be able to sing about what the neandercons left me.

Ahhhhhhhhhh….*g*
Kevin Hayden @ 232 –
you’ve convinced me! i’ll support your candidate…. even if he doesn’t have a campaign website yet. *g*
Ok Troops, I’m gone, keep the faith.
Morning all! Raven, Kudzu never dies, it just takes a long nap so it can reappear and attack again.
22 degrees under the stars in Kansas. State motto: Ad astra per aspera. To the stars through difficulties. I’ve always loved the state motto.
whenever i hear this song on those ipod commercials, i keep feeling like “1, 2, 3, 4″ should be followed up by “i declare a thumb war.”
Has anyone tasted kudzu jelly? Have been tempted to buy some several times but hesitate to spend $$ if it turns out to be a dud. Seems like there ought to be *something* it’s good for…other than taking over the world.
Also Ohio was pretty blue after 2006 but now it is bluer than ever…
Canton elected its first Democratic mayor in 16 years.
Goodd Morning and congrats to VA!
First thoughts this morning after a sleepless night. How did shoomy and Dididdlediddle sleep after fuc**ng America?
Local elections went well here (NH) but you guys in VirginLand and KT did a marvelous job. Well done. Mr Chao must be getting worried… what’s the betting he will retire?
Waccamaw @ 236
Next campaigns: Larry Kissell, Diane Benson, Charlie Brown. We are on a winning streak.
Good morning. Great news re Virginia! What was being voted for in NH?
Millineryman @ 244

“DHS employee put on leave after wearing ‘offensive’ costume”
The employee who wore what some said was a racially insensitive Halloween costume to a party hosted by a top immigration official is being directed by the Homeland Security Department Secretary to take administrative leave.
[snip]
[Julie] Myers has served as head of ICE since January of 2006 but is still awaiting Senate confirmation.
Note: Myers was on a three-judge panel that originally praised the prisoner costume for “originality.”
Sounds like damage control is in full force. Putting the person who wore the costume “on leave”, my foot! Fire Myers’ *ss should be the order of the day.
Lindy @ 247
Just local elections. Kicking out the “carpetbaggers” and returning city council and school board to “locals”.

Good Morning everyone!
looks like Dems beat the Repubs yesterday :)
And for those who want to follow the exploits of “America’s Sheriff”, Republican Mike Carona of Orange County…here’s a great link.
http://blogs.ocweekly.com/nave…..atch_2007/
He’s gone from being considered a possibility for the Calif State Lt. Generals race or running against Barbara Boxer, and being appointed to Bush’s Homeland Security Advisory Team…to being charged with scores of counts of corruption.
cinnamonape @ 257
OOOOhhh….fantastic linky! Bookmarked, fur shure. One of the most enjoyable aspects of this story is how much an idiot it makes larry king look with his “America’s sheriff” cr*p.
egregious!! Happy, happy day!!!!
Scarecrow upstairs
Loo Hoo’s up at the crack of dawn!
Loo Hoo. @ 259
LOO HOO!
Woo hoo!
Scarecrow is up
Elliott @ 256
And Kucinich got impeachment ON THE TABLE…and into the Judiciary Committee where traditionally impeachment counts are drafted after a series of hearings. Then they are sent to the floor for a vote before being sent to the Senate.
A big smack-down of Steny Hoyer, and Pelosi tangentially.
Any theories on just what all those Parliamentary manoeuvrings were by the Pugs? Did they really think that the resolution would be immediately voted on without extensive debate and discussion???
I think that may have been what they wanted, but that wasn’t the intent of the co-sponsors.
But we have a still active impeachment articles there in the Judiciary Committee…against Cheney!
cinnamonape @ 264
I totally agree with you, yesterday afternoon was one brief shining moment of hope. It was kinda fun watching the leadership squirm too. :)
nomolos @ 253
They seem to be ignoring (or covering up) the fact that the employee was awarded the “Most Creative Costume” by his supervisor. So it’s not just the black-face, dreadlocks-wearing idiot in the prison uniform. Sounds like the Supervisor, and several others , condoned of the costume and thought it was “funny”.
Hi. I just watched that video and… was that all shot in a single take? If so, I stand in awe…
