i have a couple of lacie external drives (and i really like the little d2 rack that lets me stack them), but then i read a bunch of complaints about their reliability so i next bought a maxor… but i really had no clue.

This has been my earworm. There’s no video for it, but someone did an AMV using Final Fantasy cut scenes. The artist’s name? Origa, the song is called Diva. She resides in japan but was born, raised and trained in Russia as a singer. Signed onto a label in japan and has worked several times with Yoko Kanno, the composer i worship to this Day.

that’s great news! i have my two (a 160 and a 250) for quite a while (don’t even remember when i bought them). they live with a dvd burner in one of the little d2 racks – room for one more! one of my cats sometimes likes to jump up on the top of the rack, but it doesn’t fall over.

BTW, the 800 mbps FireWire drives are verrrry nice if you have 800 on your Mac.

my ibook’s HD failed last spring and that was a moment of panic – thank goodness i had enough warning to update my previous backup.

now, i’m much more aware that HDs really do fail! amazing how experience is so much better a teacher than the theoretical.

IIRC, you replaced your iBook hard drive your self. That’s a daunting job, and I salute you for getting it done and the keeping the microphone and speakers working.
About your LaCie drives now – there is nothing keeping you from going out and buying new internals (ATA, not SATA) and installing them in place of the 160 and 250. For anyone who can tackle the iBook take-apart, it’s simple. But do them one at a time and transfer your data off before, of course.

i’ve been buying seagate 2.5in for my laptop and portables – even though it was a seagate that failed on me… it’s that 5 year warranty that hooked me.

DB, i’m a youngin’ compared to you lot but i’m a pretty good student of historical patterns and an audiophile born.(in other words,girlgeek!) *grin* Wish i had the time to get around to making AMVs. yeah – the first time was to save the $200 it would have cost me to have an apple tech replace the hd. i’ve now done it 4 times, but it is definately not something i would do for fun – way too much anxiety until everything is back together and working fine.

that’s a fracking brilliant idea about replacing the hd in the lacie enclosure (although i hate the idea of throwing away a working drive – waste not want not and all that).

Really, I had one that had been dropped and had a blown drive. I pulled it apart, thinking it would be assembled in such a way as to destroy the bridge when opened. Not so. I had an old 250 sitting around and slapped it in and it’s sitting here, running right now.

well, i don’t know hd bridges from the kind i drive on… but i’m not one to let complete ignorance stop me from giving it a go (something about fools juming in would be appropriate about now).

here’s a 750 from seagate with a 5 year warranty.

can i use the 160 lacie drive (the one i’m going to replace) in my imac?

p.s. i’m feeling a bit guilty for getting all this great free advice – i’m gonna owe you one!

yeah, i miss the santa cruz mountains and i miss that little mgb. sold it in ‘92 when i moved to tx for grad school (for the same price i’d bought it for more than 10 years prior!).

‘course, now-a-days i couldn’t drive that car w/o a major attack of conscience (leaded gasoline, no catalytic converter and who knows how many gallons to the mile).

All of the iMac G3’s will only take 128 gb maximum. You can put a larger drive in it, but only the first 128 gb can be addressed.
USB 2.0 iMac G4’s or later will take huge capacity drives.

looks like Dems beat the Repubs yesterday :)

And Kucinich got impeachment ON THE TABLE…and into the Judiciary Committee where traditionally impeachment counts are drafted after a series of hearings. Then they are sent to the floor for a vote before being sent to the Senate.

A big smack-down of Steny Hoyer, and Pelosi tangentially.

Any theories on just what all those Parliamentary manoeuvrings were by the Pugs? Did they really think that the resolution would be immediately voted on without extensive debate and discussion???

I think that may have been what they wanted, but that wasn’t the intent of the co-sponsors.

But we have a still active impeachment articles there in the Judiciary Committee…against Cheney!

They seem to be ignoring (or covering up) the fact that the employee was awarded the “Most Creative Costume” by his supervisor. So it’s not just the black-face, dreadlocks-wearing idiot in the prison uniform. Sounds like the Supervisor, and several others , condoned of the costume and thought it was “funny”.
