Looking for a vid for this one but in the meantime enjoy listening to Bluejuice’s Vitriol. I don’t know why but I love it, probably because it’s great leaping-around-shouting “hey” music.

Love it tw3k, you a big hip-hop fan?
persiflage @ 17
yeah, from hip-hop to be-bop :)
Suzanne @ 3
Wish I could join the meet up as I live in the Bay Area when not downunder, but I’ll still be enjoying springtime here for another week or so when the meet up happens.
Persiflage and I had an Aussie meet up in Perth, which was great fun.
petedownunder @ 19
didja take pictures? was it just the two of you or did other aussie pups attend?
and pete, next time you are up here instead of down under, shoot me an email and we will set something up.
Not many hip-hop lovers around here it seems. I see a lot more beat-boxing and breaking around these days, this pleases me. I love how hip-hop and rap have evolved and keep evolving. Seem to me to be where most of the interesting music is coming from these days.
Suzanne @ 20
Now how would I maintain my cover as an international woman of mystery if people had photos of me?
petedownunder @ 19
It was a delightful evening. Hopefully we’ll be able to do it again soonish. My mother-in-law has made me promise that the next time Mr Persi travels to Brisbane, I will come with him. He has to go back before Christmas so keep your fingers crossed.
ok, persi, withdrawing question about pictures of the international woman of mystery commonly known as persi
tw3k, i like some hiphop but i am dialup challenged so can’t comment on the utubes :(
persiflage @ 22
definitely a vibrant and multifaceted community.
I’ve outta the loop with the scene. Generally more main stream taste around here.
ok, time for me to head off to bed
g’nite pups and be sure to let the dayshifters know about the meetup
Suzanne @ 26
:’(
yeah, the ut00bz are becoming too much for this old machine. flash bloat creep.
I’m not sure I was ever in the loop with the scene. I listen to youth radio (alternating with classical and news) so I hear a lot of new stuff but if you mention something interesting, I guarantee to check it out. If you’re interested in Austrlian hip-hop, let me know. Maybe you’d like to check out Hilltop Hoods
Nighters Suze!
persiflage @ 30
Cool, i like, kinda reminds me of a duet Aesops Fable’s that doesn’t seem to on uTooBz.
tw3k @ 32
If you check out the Hoods song “The Hard Road” you’ll hear my favourite lyric “I finish with a bang like a Kurt Cobain biography”

tw3k @ 40
Not much of a tune, don’t think I’ll be humming this one anytime soon. *g*
persiflage @ 42
lol!
tw3k @ 41
Very clever and infectious, it demands that it be leapt around to, and gets its wish.
I gotta go, drink alcohol and feed cats (in that order). See ya later tw3k and thanks for the tunes. I’ll leave you with evidence that Aussie hip-hop has a sense of humour.
persiflage @ 44
yeah, ninjatunes
hmmmmz… F#?
Good Mroning (yeah it’s spelled right) from a cool (35) and partly cloudy Blue Ridge GA. Great leaf looking, but the tourists get in the way…
Left to myself, I’d listen to classical and jazz (we have a couple of great NPR stations, the Chattanooga and Asheville ones are much better than the stodgy Atlanta one) , but the boyfriend plays rock (mostly old, with some stuff like Queens of the StoneAge) And the kids inflict whatever they are listening to.
Got my son Beatles “Revolver” and “Rubber Soul” last week and he dug it.
Good morning pups!
Yo, egregious and tw3k!
Just now, BBC reporting on NPR – large numbers of lawyers taking to streets in Islamabad – gassing mentioned.
(barely caught it – don’t know whether she said happening or threatened re: gassing ) I’m looking for a linkable source. Not good.
morning!
yay mroning cr3w :D
Hello selise!
The Mroning cr3w it is.
my 133t is rudimentary, but hey… there is a lolcat translator online.
Here’s a link re lawyers in Lebanon. This is seriously bad..AR via NPR
Lawyers attempted to stage rallies in major cities on Monday, but were beaten and arrested.
In the biggest gathering, about 2,000 lawyers congregated at the High Court in the eastern city of Lahore. As lawyers tried to exit onto a main road, hundreds of police stormed inside, swinging batons and firing tear gas. Lawyers, shouting “Go Musharraf Go!” responded by throwing stones and beating police with tree branches.
Police bundled about 250 lawyers into waiting vans, an Associated Press reporter saw. At least two were bleeding from the head.
hey tw3k! i ripped video from the c-span archive of mukasey’s nomination hearing this weekend and someone in the ny roots project is using it to make a schumer protest video! i can’t wait to see it.
yes, i’m still using my crazy set up (2 computers, eyetv and lots of cables).
Selise, from my perspective (Neanderthal) you are a tech goddess…

oh that is so sad… i’m just fumbling around (with lots of help from folks like tw3k who have a clue) with old equipment (my imac will be 6 this winter, my ibook is 3plus, and i got my eyetv on ebay at least 3 years ago).
selise @ 63
When I want help moving a file or some such, I get “DAD, I already showed you this…”
MR. Bill @ 64
brilliant! you have in-family tech support!
Good Morning, Firepups!
It’s clear and cool here in central Jersey. It’s been a very busy time—dealing with Mr. NJP’s parents, both of whom have health problems, a leak in our kitchen ceiling, and plenty of work, so I’ve only had a chance to do a quick read of posts here at the ‘Lake.
Fortunately, we’re getting away for a few days this week [after election day!] to the Hudson Valley. Hopefully all of the leaf peepers will be gone by the time we get there.
In the meantime, I made a batch of herb biscuits, and the coffee is hot. Help yourselves!
Work for peace, every day.
Ya’ll know it’s Guy Faulks Day? Get out yer copies of V for Vengance…
The gunpowder treason and plot,
I know of no reason
Why gunpowder treason
Ever should be forgot.
Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes, t’was his intent
To blow up King and Parliament.
Three-score barrels of powder below
To prove old England’s overthrow;
By God’s providence he was catch’d
With a dark lantern and burning match.
Holloa boys, holloa boys,
Let the bells ring!
Holloa boys, holloa boys,
God save the King!
A penny loaf to feed the Pope,
A farthing o’ cheese to choke him,
A pint o’ beer to rinse it down,
A faggot o’ sticks to burn him.
Burn him in a tub of tar.
Burn him like a blazing star.
Burn his body from his head.
Then we’ll say the Pope is dead.
Thanks for the biscuits and coffee njp, and take care. We’ll still be here when you get back from the Hudson Valley.
egregious @ 68
Good morning, egregious.
Good Morning! I’m froze
MR. Bill @ 67
by golly it is! I haven’t been to a fawkes roast is quite some time.
Hi Jane!
Good morning, firepups. I wish I could watch a YouTube all the way through. I SHOULD be able to, I used to be able to…but for some reason it stops downloading about half way through. I needed some inspiration for the week, so was trying to watch this.
Jane Hamsher @ 69
Good Morning to our host!
Jane! Hope you are feeling well. Hug for you and for Howie.
Good morning, Jane! I’m so glad to hear you’re doing well.
Good morning Jane! (blows whistle to pipe captain on board)
Mornin’ all!
egregious @ 75
Howie’s asleep, I’m fighting impulse to go down and raid the kitchen for chocolate.
twolf1 @ 78
Hey twolf! What’s the news today.
Lindy @ 73

Jane Hamsher @ 79
I’m sure the Mroning Cr3w would encourage you to moderately consume chocolate.
Jane Hamsher @ 79
we’ll never tell ;)
Alright, I gotta go stain a cabin (the owner’s named it “Camp Runamuck” I think after a 60’s sitcom. Idiots..). Y’all make nice to our Esteemed Host, and say hey to Marion in Savannah when she gets here.
La73r.
Programming note: Today at 10:05 AM eastern on CSPAM1, Chimpy and Laurabot5000 will be at the Presidential Medal of Freedom Ceremony in the East Room of the White House. Be there or be square.

chocolate cravings at 4am?
Good morning, pups. It’s Cohen and Krugman in the Times today. Okay, everybody is channeling MoDo and/or TOMC. It’s Roger Cohen’s turn today. He has a fantasy conversation between Sarkozy and Bush. Mr. Krugman suggests that one of the reasons the Democrats are having trouble finding their voice is the influence of big money.
http://mgpaquin.wordpress.com/
The coffee and tea are ready, the biscuits are out of the oven, and I’m heading off for my second cup of tea. (And I understand those odd chocolate cravings — I get them every year around Halloween! It’s the unreconstructed kid who’s still left inside, I guess.)
Pakistan police use teargas against lawyers
Musharraf cited spiraling militancy and hostile judges to justify Saturday’s action, and slapped reporting curbs on the media in a bid to stop outrage spilling onto the streets amid Pakistan’s biggest crisis since he took power in a 1999 coup.
MR. Bill @ 84 –
have a great Guy Faulks Day.
selise @ 86
sounds better than the coffee and orange peels i’ve been digesting! blech
Morning Jane. Your hospitality is most appreciated. FDL is brilliant.
Jane Hamsher @ 79
Why resist. Chocolate is health food, it is good for you, it helps healing, it is highly recommended after surgery. Go for it
selise @ 86
Chocolate? [Hides halloween Hershey wrappers, wipes off mouth…]
Hello, Jane, how are you? go eat chocolate – cures what ails you.
I’m up early to go to dentist before work.
Good morning Miss Jane and all the pups. Hope everyone is feeling bright and shiny this morning and ready to rock and roll!! It’s chilly and frosty in Upstate New York this morning. Oatmeal with raisins and brown sugar is the order of the day.
Glad to see you with us this morning, Jane. Very early, chocolate or no. *g*
Marion in Savannah @ 87
Good morning. 2nd cup of coffee being poured.
Haven’t read Krugman yet, but isn’t that one of the main points that Edwards is using against Hillary?
twolf1 @ 88
Pakistan police use teargas against lawyers
“first thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyers”
Shakespeare, Henry VI.
(in context, shiver..)
The only thing shrub will learn from Pakistan is the value of declaring martial law.
Rice Adviser: Pakistan’s Crackdown on Dissent is ‘Small Favor’ That Makes ‘Iraq Look Pretty Good’
“Thank heavens for small favors,” the official said. Compared to Pakistan, “Iraq looks pretty good.”
Re pakistan
from Juan Cole
Qadi Hussain Ahmad, the leader of the fundamentalist Jamaat-i Islami called Sunday for massive protests against the coup of Gen. Pervez Musharraf. He was speaking to a crowd of 20,000 near the major Punjabi city of Lahore. I just saw Qazi Hussain on Aljazeera condemning Musharraf as a traitor, saying in English, “This is clear treason.” The Jamaat-i Islami is still largely a cadre organization rather than a mass movement, though it did win a lot of votes in the Northwest Frontier Province (NWFP) and Baluchistan. It has in the past organized demonstrations as big as 80,000 in the southern port of Karachi, though for a city of Karachi’s size (9 million), that isn’t actually all that impressive. That the Jama’at got 20,000 to rally near Lahore strikes me as a bad sign for Musharraf. What is really significant, however, is that Qazi Hussain is the only major party leader openly calling for mass resistance against Musharraf, a stance which will help the popularity of his party even if (as seems likely) he winds up in jail over it.
Oh, Marion-Schumer too. He’s mine, unfortunately. Won’t tax hedge funds at proper rates because their his donors. He’s getting an angry phone call from me today re Mukasey & hedge funds. Gonna tell em I’m going to work to get a decent human being to run against him. Empty threat, but they’ll get the intent.
KGC & twolf1
Yep, the know-nothings are in charge.
twolf1 @ 99
if I didn’t know Rice better, I’d say you were making that up!
eCAHNomics, people pooh-poohed John Edwards’ “Two Americas” in 2004, but it certainly resonates with me. I might ask the Dems in the Senate if I can tax my income at 15% too, just like a hedge fund manager. That’d work for me…
Marion in Savannah @ 104
You could just about balance the federal budget if you taxed hedge fund managers at regular income rates. The average successful one earned nearly half a billion last year.
Is anyone else as depressed about tomorrow’s election day as I am? We’re electing a new mayor. Lawdy, lawdy, lawdy… It’s a horrendous array of loons, losers and nut jobs. And the aldermen running aren’t any better… Sigh.
How about this for a theory.
The dem leadership has been put on notice that if they push too hard Bush will declare a national emergency and they will be very sorry. They may have been told that elections will be postponed etc.
I think the leadership is intimidated and that’s why impeachment is off the table. The dems believe that if “we” can hang out until the election, they will be voted out and then they can begin the restore process. They don’t believe that the elections can be stolen with the polls now so clearly anti Bush, so all they are doing is biding their time. All their hope is in the 08 elections.
Seems my initial greeting didn’t go through, so a second ‘good morning’ to everyone. So glad to hear Jane’s doing well.
This is going to be a very bad week. As bad as when the MCA was approved. Maybe Kucinich can pull a rabbit out of his hat regarding the Cheney impeachment, but I’m not counting on it. Schumer’s my senator, too. Already called and emailed. The frustration is that it doesn’t seem to matter what the majority of American citizens think.
And, a footnote….I live in a very repub county. If you get the repub nomination that’s tantamount to winning the election. Tomorrow is election day and for the first time ever, it is expected that the County Legislature will switch to a dem majority. I didn’t know if the ‘unrest’ would translate to local politics but it seems that it has. People are so angry. But it’s getting us nowhere with this Congress.
As for Israel attacking Syria.
This was done for a few reasons.
To put Syria on notice that they are completely vulnerable to Israeli military and to stay quiet and don’t interfere in Lebanon.
To put on notice Iran that they can and will attack any nation in the region at will when they perceive a threat.
To on notice the US that they must do something about Iran, or else they will do it.
To signal the world that they support Turkey’s incursions into Iraq.
To put Pakistan on notice if they act aggressively Israel will take out their nukes.
Chocolate Has Sweet Effect on Blood Flow
The study looked at what’s known as coronary flow velocity reserve (CFVR), an indicator of the ability of the coronary arteries to dilate and allow more blood flow in response to medications.
solai
What county? I’m interested in following the few remaining R enclaves in NYS.
One of the reasons we get nothing from our senators & reps is that NYS is so blue, they can ignore the electorate.
SanderO @ 109
And to distract world opinion about the apartheid in palestine
eCAHNomics @ 111
Herkimer County.
NYS is blue, but the state legislature is republican.
Parts of LI out east are virtual KKK territory.
Most ready for ‘green sacrifices’
…and one more thing is bothering me. The Enron books revealed how often the different factions worked against each other. They didn’t work for the betterment of Enron, rather for their own goals, often to the detriment of the company at large. Well, I see this with BushCo. and while everyone is clamoring about the disaster unfolding in Pakistan, I wonder if Cheney’s hand is in this.
Scarecrow is upstairs now.
SanderO @ 114
Thought NYS assembly is majority D & senate is (bare) majority R?
Jane,
When it comes to chocolate, there is no hesitation. It is one of the few legal drugs we have left.
