Now we’re rockin! W00t!
This is our song to the Democrats who are supporting Mukasey. You are really taking it to the limit. Aren’t you. This is the spin Lahoma and I are in tonight. DiFi, Schumer, etc., go fuck yourselves!

I might have a Guinness or two for this one.
Bustednuckles @ 11
this one’s making me dizzy!
Hello Donita, hello firepups.
Almost missed you today, as Europe has already switched back from daylight saving to standard time. What do I listen? I feel kinda retro at the time and found myself listening to Dire Straits. I hope this doesn’t bore you.
Young Jess™ @ 2
He he. Can we all call you that now, or would the name loose its specialness then?
I like the Jennifer Gentle song. Never heard that before. Thankx!
Norman Wagner @ 13
You can call me either that or just Jess, whichever you want :)
Oh ratz, I forgot about the time change.
Bustednuckles @ 11
TURN UP THE FLOGGING MOLLY!!!

eric the great @ 6
Shamefully, I had no costume this year. I was really busy all week getting back into my at home groove. I can’t remember the last time that I didn’t have a costume. I did however dress in orange and black. The least I could do.
For the last few months, this young woman from Québec City has been rising like cream or the canadian dollar, through the charts. She sings in english. Her name is Pascale Picard, check her out on MySpace:

Hey Donita
Jess has been pleading with me to come on this site, so here I am :) Just want to thank you again for the awesome time at The Mod Club in T.O. last month. You really are the sweetest person ever.
What have I been listening to lately? Really into Amy Winehouse for the last little while. Recently watched L7 and Karen Black vid on Youtube, Bang,Bang. OMG brought back every Sonny and Cher childhood memory I thought I’d repressed. Absolutely LOVED IT!
Hi Donita, & Firepups! Great show in Boston! I’ve been listening to Hope Sandoval’s “Bavarian Fruit Bread”, her voice is peace!
Jennifer ( young Jess’ mom) @ 25
Hi mom!
(She’s sitting right next to me)
And for you Lahoma (a Stones freak). Remember how many times we saw these guys. And when we first danced and you told me that I was imitating Mick, who was imitating James Brown. That’s right baby. And we’re going to OK City to dance and boogie tonight.

woohoohoo
Well Howdy Jennifer and young Jess.
Pretty cool place, no?
Bustednuckles @ 30
It’s my mom’s first time, for those of you who are confused, I’m still Jess from all recent weeks, just changed my screename :)
uh, i hate to sound like a hinkley, but i seem to remember you telling us last year that you went as Martian Brady.
Dire Straits is good, Making Movies. Recently doing Bass guitar to REM, The Best of the I.R.S. Years. Never heard a couple before. Its quite a work out.
desertwind @ 21
I have no idea what she’s saying but she sounds real nice.
(but the vid is making me seasick)
My hat is offto Jennifer for driving Jess all that way so she could see Donita.
That was way cool in my book and I’m an old fart.
desertwind @ 22
I love that song, but that video makes ME dizzy.
Bustednuckles @ 34
LOL, it was well worth the drive.
Jennifer ( young Jess’ mom) @ 26
Hi Jennifer! Glad you had a good time. Love to Young Jess as well.
A week ago, I was at UVM in Burlington. Saw a show featuring the California Guitar Trio, three of the best guitarists on this planet. They’re in Chicago tonight.
Opening for them was Natalia Zukerman, who gave forty minutes of pure pleasures for this truly attentive crowd. Been listening to her album “Only One”, one shot takes from the studio. Remarquable stuff..
And for you kiddo. Happy anniversary. I love you.
lahoma

Hey everybody, check out who won my guitar.
http://www.donitasparks.com/gvwy_wnnrs-pg.html
finifinito @ 20
Thanks.
There used to be a live version of “Water of Love” on YouTube, with the resonator replaced by a “singing” Telecaster and with the melody slightly modified. It’s a shame they removed the video again, due to copyright concerns. The guitar part sounded so lovely.
You know I forgot to mention U2. I’ve been listening to their music a great deal as well – from all the decades. Some of my favorite songs by them include “Pride”, “One”, “Staring at the Sun” and for some reason “New York”. I know Bono’s do-gooder image and his past record of visits to the White House haven’t only won him favours. This doesn’t change the fact that U2 has been and still is a great band. I’d go that far to say they’re the best band with a band name consisting of a letter and a digit only. *runs away*
Donita Sparks @ 42
Congrats to Kat!! Also Donita, I love that stop-motion pic of you!
Donita Sparks @ 41
Nice. :-)
Young Jess @ 44
thanks Young Jess, glad you like it.
Donita Sparks @ 42
Oh man, that is killer!
hi donita
first of all, let me tell you what a GREAT show you had at the roxy. i had a blast!

Soundtrack of our Lives – Behind the Music
Aretha Franklin – greatest hits
Beatles – Something New
TGIF!
nora
i love that stop motion pic too, especially with the zoom feature. donita, you get lovelier every year.
U2 is one of my favorite and most influential bands from their earliest days. I come from a very proud Irish descent family and when they came out of Ireland in the early 80s it was a very proud moment for my brothers and sister and I. Ive been a fan of U2 since Boy came out. Their greatest material is in the first couple of albums, Boy and War. I’m particular to New Year’s Day especially.
This kid is halarious
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J4_2_d58_9A
Now i’m checking out all of the Frenchies. That Jacques Dutronc is one suave looking dude.
Here’s what I’m diggin’ this week.
A Christmas CD unlike any other.
These dudes are amazing. See also my blog.
:)
LMAO,
Sitemeter ratted a couple of you out.
Antje Duvekot, Ben Lee, the new Robert Plant/Alison Krauss album, and especially the “Jazz Icons” series of DVDs. If you’re unfamiliar with those, the guys at Reelin’ in the Years Productions have gone into the valuts of a number of state-run European television networks and found a treasure trove of absolutely stunning performances from the 1950s and 1960s by giants of jazz. I started out with the Coltrane and Wes Montgomery discs, which are just incredible.
Donitafinito!
This week: Goddo, and U.K.
Happy weekend, and Dolemite, motherf***ers!
;>)
Elliott @ 29
I prefer the less pop-like songs, such as “Telegraph Road”, “On Every Street”. “Brothers in Arms”… There’s countless more though.

Donita, I want to ask you: I’m keeping money to travel for Sao Paulo, in December, to watch your shows here in Brazil (I’ve to travel because I live in the northeast of Brazil and Sao Paulo is in the southeast). I want to know: how much cost the tickets to the show? Are the prices already confirmed? I need to know soon, because I’m keeping money for the trip and for the show! Thanks for all!
From your great fan from Brazil, Jandira.
Jandira Ferreira @ 70
perfect songs
finifinito @ 49
Ireland seems to have a great influence on world music compared to the number of its inhabitants. Anyway, do you by any chance know, who played the version of Seán Ó Riada’s “Women Of Ireland” at the end of the documentary “Stanley Kubrick: A Life in pictures”? I think this composition has such a nice melody.
Norman Wagner @ 73
Irish influence including all down the spine of the Appalachians
I keep playing this list over and over. It just keeps getting better and better.
Tommy Roto @ 46
Would make a good screensaver too!
pigboy @ 75
Ya, it’s good.
Norman Wagner @ 70
That was done by one of my favorite bands out of Ireland, The Chieftains. Here is the video they did with Ziggy Marley doing a cover of Bob Marley’s song Redemption Song.
pigboy @ 75
If you launch the standalone player, you can bookmark the link and listen to it tomorrow, or next Sunday, or…
finifinito @ 78
It sounded different though than the Chieftains’ version that was used in Barry Lyndon, which IHMO sounded a little out of tune. Thanks for answering though.
burnspbesq @ 55
Thanks for this. Sounds fantastic, I’ll check it out.
ive been doing last.fm for a bit. it’s very addictive. I’ll have to try project playlist out a bit now :)
Doug @ 66
Can’t go wrong with The King. February.
Donita, thanks. I love The Spin I’m In when I’m here.

John Smith @ 84
Such the arrangement! From out of nowhere.
OT, but I really want to fax a letter to a couple of senators and a congressman, and maybe copies to some leaders for good measure.
(Mail takes too long because of security, and I don’t think they really pay attention to email.)
I seem to recall seeing some kind of site (listed here?) where it was possible to do that over the internet. Did I imagine it? Or does that really exist? Or was it just available for a rush on a specific issue?
Thanks!
Jandira Ferreira @ 71
Hi Jandira! We’ve pushed back our show in Brazil to January (or early Feb.) We wanted to wait for a time closer to our record release. We will not be there in December. I have no idea what the tickets will cost yet. Contact my MySpace page and we’ll keep you posted.
John Smith @ 86
wow! thanks for making up that list and sharing it. I’m always looking for new suggestions.
I’m trying to think of a list but artists would repeat too many times >_
Young Jess™ @ 85
Probably. Butch Vig looks strange in that outfit.
I read, he produced “Bricks are Heavy”. Was he responsible for the arrangement of the drum part in “One More Thing” or was it Mrs. Plakas? I’m asking because I really liked as this fitted in with the rest of the song – as well as the other instruments. My fave song on that album.
John Smith @ 86
Wow! good on ya.
Siun is upstairs!
Okay random song list, like I said before, many artists would repeat too many times so I’ll narrow it down to ONE song for each:
1. Garbage “Subhuman”
2. Hole “Retard Girl”
3. Distillers “Hall Of Mirrors”
4. L7 “Shove”
5. Babes In Toyland “Memory”
6. Bikini Kill “Capri Pants”
7. Le Tigre “TKO”
8. Faith No More “Epic”
9. Donnas “I Didn’t Like You Anyway”
10. Sleater-Kinney “Oh!”
11. Lunachicks “Binge And Purge”
12. Bangels “Hazy Shade Of Winter”
13. Huggy Bear “Her Jazz”
14. Kittie “Choke”
15. Lily Allen “Smile”
16. No Doubt “Hella Good”
17. Veruca Salt “Volcano Girls”
18. Sheryl Crow “Hard To Make A Stand”
19. Nirvana “Old Age”
20. Sex Pistols “Pretty Vacant”
Do you guys know Die Happy?
I was looking for the song “It’s All Over”, but that one can’t be found on YouTube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vch8UBmbfhc
God is everyone gone now?! It’s too quiet….
Young Jess™ @ 98
It’s called being EPU’d.
Everyone went upstairs.
see you next Friday.
Young Jess™ @ 96
Greeeeat playlist! =D
Bustednuckles @ 99
EPU’d?
Jandira Ferreira @ 100
Thanks!
I love Sound Tribe Sector 9 (STS9). The closest description that I can give of them is that they are a techno jam band.
http://vids.myspace.com/index……ID=7391262
Nice guitar Donti and thanks for the music. I tried a bass once of that make, nice but too pricey.
Thank you Norman at 57, one of my favorites too. I’ll try it again later with the instument on. Stereo’s on the fritz right now.
Donita Sparks @ 90
Great! I will have more time of joining money to watch the show! Ok, I will contact you in MySpace! Will you sing L7’s songs in the show?
projectplaylist is a pretty cool site. Still a bigger fan of pandora, though. Here’s my playlist:
http://www.projectplaylist.com/node/18553471
http://www.dailymotion.com/rel…..ouman_fun. Sekou Bembeya Diabate–the best Guinean guitarist of his generation.
And for you younger folks, from Kenya, Musa Juma: http://youtube.com/watch?v=hI_gCEauFUQ
muziki afrique!
And if anyone likes Sekou Bembeya there are a couple of clips on the same page from the 70s when he and his band, Bembeya Jazz International were the hottest band in West Africa.
The video is so ridiculously lame, but the lyrics are really, really good: Against Me! – Thrash Unreal
And this intro is great. A great, simple, broken chord along with the first few lines: Shiny Toy Guns – Don’t Cry Out Shame about the male vocals, they just come off as whiney to me. Rehashed new wave pop. But the females vocals are nice.
Gomez – See the World Brilliant.
Lastly Modest Mouse – Missed the Boat Shake, Shake, Shake, Shake, Shake!
Foo Fighters Keep the Car Running which is a cover of Arcade Fire’s original (which is more spectacular but I’ve listened to it too much lately).
Try this one french dandy punk from 1979, the stinky toys.
http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=Lz3ZCKBb2jo
You might also like Jacno and Elie.
Cheers from France.
Donita!!!!
It was incredible meeting you in Philly and then again, hanging out with you in NYC after the show!! It was such a good time that I even forgot to go back to the venue (Highline Ballroom) to say hi to The Donnas, really!!!LOL
Jessica & I are thinking about moving from NY
to West Hollywood, nothing really happens around here like in the 80’s anymore and you know that I am from Rio and being close to the beach it’s all I need…”I,I,I,I need”…lol
It would be great to see you and your great band performing again soon.
Many, many hugs and kisses for you!!!
Love,
Fabianne
