I saw this late, but I was in Chicago on Saturday. We had about 30,000 people and fabulous weather!

I went on the Peace Train from Detroit — we had two full cars from the Detroit area.

Anybody go….? Better to have asked– did anybody advertise the march? How much coverage did you folks do?
Screw the msm- their behavior is a given. What was missing was NET COVERAGE!

selise @ 11

i was sad not to be able to go to a peace protest yesterday…. but very glad that so many firepups went. blessings to all that did.

revdeb called me from the middle of it and i could hear, almost continuously, the cars honking in support. what a change from 2002!

Hundreds of thousands at the march in Oct 2002 in D.C. Media did a very poor job covering the marches in Washington and New York and across the nation before the invasion. So wonderful that more people are going, although know lots of folks who went before the invasion and for the year after and are no longer going. Glad to hear others are.

Since before the invasion United for Peace and Justice and International Answer have done most of the organizing for these marches.

I was at the SF rally and talked to a woman who had marched near a large contingent of Iranians who were marching for the first time. Considering many of them have supported the Republicans in the past, it was a remarkable.

When are we going to learn to hold these rallies around TV stations and radio stations? It seems too much to ask these days for the media to drive their production van to cover the rally, so it seems we have to bring it to them. What TV station wouldn’t cover the thousands of protesters congregating near their station?

All FDL posters are invited to the dinner bf & I are cooking right now while watching the World Series- broiled red snapper w/yellow peppers, big salad w/fresh heirlooms from the farmers’ market, basmati & a touch of cumin, & cheesecake my daughter made w/peach topping.

Wish you all were here…

i am weeping over the rockies’

we actually did an inuit-
plank-grilled salmon, with
rock-salt and brown sugar
alternating rubs — and
the weather held — tremendous!

Jane, re Mark Penn,

I didn’t participate in that thread because I wouldn’t want to disrespect you or the site by going against the ground rules for book discussions. But I felt deeply disappointed because there was finally a chance to talk directly to one of the most influential people in Hillary Clinton’s campaign, basically her Karl Rove, but instead we were supposed to talk about a book that he wrote that I have no interest in reading, especially if buying it I contribute to the personal wealth of a union-busting, Blackwater-promoting corporate lobbyist who moonlights as an official in Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

Perhaps the next time you have a controversial guest, there should be two threads: one to discuss whatever book, film, product or cause the guest wants to plug, and another open-ended thread to address any concerns that the FDL community has about that person’s role. In the open-ended thread, people would be encouraged to ask tough questions, but not to be abusive or overly personal.

Another alternative if they won’t do that is for the site proprietors to do an interview. Talk about their book, sure, but bring up the other issues. If they won’t address the other issues, don’t publish the part about the book, because they haven’t earned the publicity.

Or you could do what you’re doing, after all it’s your site. But I feel I can count on you to speak truth to power.

We had a small street-corner rally in Dallas. Two people brought HONK for PEACE signs, and, did they work! It was deafening at times. 18 wheelers blew their air horns, bus drivers were with us, the police waved, a young guy from a camera shop came and took out pictures, then brought us prints before it was over. We had WWII vets and Koera vets. Only one guy wanted to beat us up - an improvement, for sure, and a plain clothes detective quietly saved the day. Judging from the joyous reactions from the crowd, Dallas has turned the corner…and we could alsmost see the site of his liberry from where we were.
