When I first thought about this video I laughed, thinking it would be a great invitation to conservatives who want to run away screaming from the administration and join us good guys.
But really this is for all of you, my dear pups, who are facing a challenge and need that extra little bit of encouragement to take the next small or big step.
Like all my late nite videos for you, it speaks to my heart as well. Here’s hoping for the best for all of us who are stepping out into the unknown, whether it be political or personal, into a new space and time and way of thinking.
May all of us find the courage we need to move to the next place.
“Take a risk, take a chance, make a change, and break away.” And please, take care of each other.

egregious!
hi, eg!
EG
eg!
Hey everybody!
btw, egregious, just love that handle… “egregious”… just makes me smile every time…
Change, of any kind, requires courage.
Thanks, eg
Egregious!
You are such a sweetheart, EG.
evening, eg.
eg, thanks for this video. On a personal level it’s giving me some food for thought.
Is Malkin gonna break away or was that last diddy on her blog just a head fake?
Hi Burns and Peanutbutter. Everyone still on for Saturday?
EG!
Hope this finds you well.
Survived the SoCal fires so far. Sad to see areas still burning, but it looks we’re getting an upper hand…My heart goes out to all those who have lost homes, memories and pets in this tragedy. Going into work tomorrow and hope to find out if any of my friends/coworkers have lost homes. I know a number of them lived in the evacuation areas.
I believe so, if it didn’t relocate to Santa Barbara?
Thanks egregious. Great song.
peanutbutter @ 15
No, I guess there was some discussion of that while I was away during the fires, but mommybrain said to forget about Santa Barbara (as nice as it would be to see Valerie). We’re sticking with Wahoo’s.
Tonight’s news blurbs are here. My site at the radio network is down.
Just what I needed to hear. This Deaniac Subway Serenade has stepped off a cliff into a project that will alter the course of civilization itself.
Imagine if access to your eternal nature became as easy as playing a video game with your friends.
That’s what I’m up to. Thanks for this thread of inspiration. I’ll keep you posted.
If you get a chance to catch Col Ann Wright on Cspan speaking at the Harford peace rally on 10/09 it is quite enlightening. She was telling about why she cannot travel to Canada as she is on the FBI felons list even though she has only had misdemeanor citations for protesting.
They didn’t play it when I saw them last weekend, but this Eagles song has been in heavy rotation on my mental jukebox as the fires have been burning.
Loo Hoo. @ 13
As of now, that’s a big You Betchum.
katymine @ 20
Is Col Wright retired military?
Central Texas firepups also getting together next weekend.
Suzanne @ 7
I like to think we are inspiring each other.
I’ve hit the wall here folks…good night and pleasant dreams to all :-)
Sleep well LL.
LoudounLib @ 26
Night!
*waving to the leaving sleepy pups*
Suzanne @ 23

Retired Army Colonel with around 33 years of service
LoudounLib @ 26
Gnight.
I know you said that you couldn’t make the Nickel Creek show at the 9:30 next Friday, but is Thursday any better? Sam Bush/Jerry Douglas/Edgar Meyer at Lisner. I would give my … never mind what I would give to be there.
thanks katy
burnspbesq @ 31
But would it be waxed?
Honest to god , that last thread was so funny.
On the Flynt story, I’m prayin’ for it to be Coleman.
I finally made it to egregious’ late, late night thread!
About par for course around here: Pols, voters said no to fire funds
I voted for these things. I vote FOR everything firefighter related. I frickin’ grew up in this area. *headdesk*
hi burns, still here lurking for a few — damn, I wish I could make that Lisner show, but it’s the same problem: must be at work by 0630 the next morning :-(
Millineryman @ 35
Hi Millineryman! we’re hardly ever in the same thread.
TexBetsy @ 24
Who will be there, do you know yet, Betsy?
ReneND @ 34
i’m rooting for DiFi and HoJo in diapers with boner playing daddy
Millineryman, thanks for being a round the clock friend. You could be on this same thread in the morning you know.
MM! Hey!
guess I’ll stay up for a bit longer
newdealfarmgrrrlll @ 38
True, that’s where Facebook comes in and fills the gap.
Millineryman @ 35
Hello! I’m still wondering if you got a picture of Jane in the red hat you made for her?
Now that I am medicated….. yes the last post was wayyyyyy too funny…. I will never view Pach the same ever again
ReneND @ 34
But would Coleman rock DC? I don’t think it is Coleman. I am betting it is Miss McConnell or Mini-me. Those are the two, besides “Wide Stance” that have been rumored for ages.
egregious @ 40
I know, you’re such a gracious hostess and it’s a pleasure being here at anytime.
Loo Hoo. @ 39
Hmmm. I do, but need to translate the people names back into the screen names.
Gnome de Plume, Wangdangdoodle, nonplussed, me, probablie Dakine. Not sure about LS, Marilyn in TX, Cassie or Amanda marcotte. Alfred is still in Japan.
well, i remember reading this titbit recently, was it here? (too durn tired to search). Details of Dubya & Pickles sex life have emerged. Pickles is always on top because Dubya can only f*ck up.
I wonder. Flynt keeps promisin’ but I don’t see him delivering.
katymine @ 45
i hope he is not upset that i now think ‘pach the polished’ and smile
Millineryman @ 35
Hello MM! Thank you for your very kind email earlier this eve!
Luvs ya. VG.
newdealfarmgrrrlll @ 49
ROFL!!!
LoudounLib @ 42
Hey LL, good to see you, I couldn’t sleep that’s why I’m here and now I’m keeping you from sleeping. Kinda of funny doncha think?
Loo Hoo. @ 44
i’ve been hoping for a pic.
newdealfarmgrrrlll @ 49
Bwahahahaha!
Joe Klein’s conscience @ 46
I’m hoping for a complete blow our minds type. Can hardly wait, although Flynt did say they may wait until next summer in the height of the election season.
katymine @ 45
was reading it way behind the crowd, i was laughing/wincing in sympathy with you. Too funny for post-op!
Millineryman @ 54
;-) Never got the chance to message you today via FB like I intended — I took a spur of the moment road trip to WV, and it was “almost heaven”
Loo Hoo. @ 44
Hey Loo Hoo so glad you’re ok, no I haven’t seen the photo.
newdealfarmgrrrlll @ 49
HA! True, and never thought about it that way…
Valley Girl @ 52
Same here VG!
hey, MM visiting us here on the dark side (waving)
LoudounLib @ 59
I hear that about WV. So glad you got to experience it. I was down for the count earlier, we can catch up tomorrow.
MM, definitely. It’s been too long, we need to dish! ;-)
newdealfarmgrrrlll @ 58
Miss Dog thought Mom just lost it…. sitting here with my “little” post-op pillow hugging my tummy and laptop rocking back and forth laughing and nearly falling off the sofa watching baseball
Suzanne @ 63
Hey Suzanne, it’s a good thing I couldn’t sleep. I get to hang with some great people.
Evening everyone…here it is, 140am in FL. I get home from a late gig, and find egregious has Late Late Night, spreading inspiration and tranquility. Most excellent!
peanutbutter @ 33
[imitating John Cleese’s French knight] Nochance!
How are you feeling katymine? What’s the doc saying?
62?
Some people become revolutionaries by reading political literature. My own course to enlightenment was by reading Ramparts Magazine and I.F. Stone’s Weekly in the 1960s.
Your mileage may vary. You may find that it’s music that moves your soles.
If that’s the case, here’s a deal for you:
http://www.highplainsfilms.org…..loads.html
These are white hat cowboys. High Plains has had a stream of useful documentaries on PBS, among other places for the last couple decades.
Joe Bob sez check it out! Free stuff, kiddies!
katy, that post was funny even non-medicated. glad you got that pillow nearby when visiting the lake.
CTuttle @ 71
Wowser, couldn’t even bag that…!
well, gotta take my tired lungs to bed, the steamer is already going. (trying to avoid bronchitis). Laughter is the best med tho, & you pups all keep me pretty durn healthy.
G’night, all, one last cider-making session tomorrow, i’ll bring back a jug or two for late nite. Sweet dreams!
Loo Hoo. @ 57
Election season, eh? Methinks, FWIW, this means it’s not a presidential candidate. Flint would be knocking any Presidential candidates out of the race now, unless he thinks it’s going to be the front-runner.
What Senate candidates are up for election in ‘08 that fit his “hypocrite” criteria?
Um…all of them?
Hey RonD, we’re all staying up too late ;-)
Wow! RonD’s here. The gentleman of the tubes.
evening ron D
Ray Duray @ 72
i’ll check it out tomorrow ray. tis sat nite and that’s for fun to recharge the batteries for the fight ahead.
g’night ndfg, sleep well and sweet dreams!
sleep well ndfg
peanutbutter @ 50
That’s why they call it striptease.
{{{Loo Hoo}}}
Sweety, I find you catch far more with honey than vinegar. :)
LoudounLib @ 77
Speak for yourself, Ma’am! It’s only quarter of eight here! ;-)
Loo Hoo. @ 70
Surgery… I am doing fine…. the oncologist is a different story….. thankfully Dr kirk is going to help with some research…… it seems that they have not done any research on my status. Research on tumors smaller and advanced disease but not mine….. spent two days doing medical journal research… that is why I missed the donybrook the other day…
Getting better every day…..
kristine, Flynt said a republican senator. Can’t figure it out, although it would be nice if it were Ms. McConnell.
Wow CT, you have the whole evening ahead of you then! ;-)
Hey Betsy! I wish Texas was just a little closer, I’d crash your firepup gathering!
Ok, I read the last post but not the comments. Woo, boy, I can imagine where that conversation went.
I’m not even askin’ about Pach the polished. ;)
RonD @ 68
That’s very kind of you RonD. What was your gig?
Ah, the joys of small college football.
Suzanne @ 80
Likewise. Thanks, Ray.
Same here, RonD. I’d love to be at that gathering for sure. Or the west coast gathering, that’d be fun too!
LoudounLib @ 88
Yep, all the more time to savor the victory…!
Loo Hoo. @ 57
I’m sort of thinking some older, very respected type. John Warner….?
Well I have to get up earlier tomorrow than I do on days that I work. Or at least, my alarm is set that way. Not predicting the future.
But I am getting some sleep just in case.
Night all.
CT, definitely! But you know, I kind of wish it would go to 6 or 7 games so that the Sox could win it all at Fenway…
So last night the play opened that I’ve doing the props for, and the cast party was sponsored by Representative Andrews, his daughter was in the play.
He’s a democrat from the 1st district here, and I’m just over the line in the 2nd district. He’s got a decent record, a little conservative for me, yet he helped my dad out a long time ago so…
When I went over to thank him, I was tempted to discuss some things like telecom immunity, umbrella warrants, etc, but I didn’t. He was there as a proud father, and it was a private time for him and I just couldn’t intrude on that.
It was quite funny how much of debate I was having myself over it. I will say this, he did not have a flag pin on his lapel,
Suzanne @ 80
There must be a misunderstanding here. I was offering free music via some high class guys in Montana. All legal. All excellent. Take another look at what’s on offer here:
http://www.highplainsfilms.org…..loads.html
This ain’t no Hoax.
Hey egregious. I was playing bass for five hours with a local classic-rock outfit, booked by some guy who was drunk at the time and who consequently booked us for far more $ than he should have. A good time was had by all.:)
g’night Betsy, sweet dreams to you.
Margot @ 96
That seems very unlikely to me, bec. irrc he has already announced retirement. And, seems very unlikely in any event.
‘Night Betsy!
sorry, i misread what you wrote.. i thought it was more stuff referencing your comment from last nite
i’m on dialup so i can’t view videos until after i get done here with my mod gig.
Nite, TexB. Rest well.
Margot @ 96
Oh, my! John McCain?
Getting Aaron Parrett now, Ray.
thanks y’all
OT, but speaking of staying up late…
When does the “Fall Back” thingy start (at least according to the new regime)?
MM, good story about Rep. Andrews; you could always get in touch with him and buttonhole him later! ;-)
LoudounLib @ 98
The next two games are in Denver. The Rockies would need to win two games and then play on Halloween in Fenway
http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/ps/y2007/index.jsp
Valley Girl @ 110
Nov 4?
LoudounLib @ 111
That’s true, him and his wife alss had these packages of chocloate covered pretzels for all the kids in the cast. The play was Oliver, and there 15 kids in it.
Flynt must be going after a hypocrite. Warner’s unlikely.
Would it be rude to pray that it’s Boehner? Yeah, it would…
LoudounLib @ 94
You’d be welcome!
TheOtherWA @ 115
Not rude at all. I’d welcome that.
Valley Girl @ 110
Isn’t that tomorrow morning? In other words, tonight?
Damn. Toobz trouble-must reboot. Back in a bit-
Thanks for inspiring me to write:
This all began before 9/11. That’s the kicker, and they’re going to use this endless war to justify it retroactively. To justify unspecified crimes retroactively… Could anything spell-it-out to the people more clearly?
Hope it’s someone who has supported Bush/Cheney at every step. I’d hope for Lieberman, but Flynt said republican. Even though Joe votes like one, he claims to be an independent.
TheOtherWA @ 118
New regime decreed Nov 4 to change the time. Fall back as you noted, so set the clock back one hour.
I’m damn ready for it — while I’ll be sorry to lose the evening light, I’m sick of getting up and driving to work watching the sunrise.
TheOtherWA @ 118
It was tomorrow morning, or tonight, last year, but not this year. And at this moment actually. Just to confuse everybody :)
TheOtherWA @ 115
Boehner is not a senator.
Is this suppose to be a gay sex scandal?
LL at #113- thanks, sounds right. It’s usu. right around Oct. 31. Hadn’t seen any dire warnings about computer dating problems, so far, but thought that I might have missed something.
burns, if you’re still here — I just watched that football video…wow!
TimeTogether @ 120
standing on chair clapping
egregious @ 123
You’re right, it’s next weekend. Nevermind!
This is from an old editoral from the Standard Democrat newspaper in Sikeston, MO. I think this would make a good ad against the GOP.
Your view: About Republicans
03/28/05
Dear Editor,
President Bush wants to establish democracies in Afghanistan and Iraq, all of his other reasons for attacking them being proven to be false. He doesn’t know what he is going to do tomorrow and he’s not sure of what’s going on today and he’s still trying to figure out what happened yesterday.
…
As far as establishing democracies in those countries what is there to do? They already have true Republican democracies that are working perfectly and need no changes according to the Republican record here in the United States.
In World War II, I served in Iran, Iraq and other countries as well. Iran and Iraq are very similar. In 1944, the average life span was 27 years in Iran. They had no public education, no public heath, no charity (except from the outside), no Medicare, no Medicaid, no welfare, no disease control, no social security, no retirements, no workmen’s compensation, no union, no unemployment compensation, no minimum wage, no child labor laws, no inheritance taxes, no pure food and drug law, no First Step program for handicapped kids, no farm program and many others. Sure sounds like a Republican democracy to me since they are on record of bitterly opposing most, if not all, of the above here in our homeland.
…
W. T. Woods
http://news.mywebpal.com/news_…..6&om=1
Janet Dickens Monk was there also. She’s the great, great grand daughter of Charles Dickens. She was signing books for charity.
I told her about how the kids were sitting around one night talking about the possibility of the play being reviewed. One of the kids said he was more concerned about getting it right for Janet, which the other kids agreed with. They went on to having a conversation about that which was great to hear.
She so thrilled and touched by that story.
Valley Girl,
Seems very unlikely to me too. I just thought, who would be the most surprising? And he’s who I thought of. No disrespect intended.
Loo Hoo. @ 93
LooHoo,
Just for you I recommend “Reds” a movie about American history that Republicans want you to never know and Democrats want you to forget.
If you ever want to learn how the world has become so polarized between the Socialist Latin American ascendency, the deplorable state of the decline and fall of the U.S. oligarchy destroying us with their debasement of our money and why the rest of the world simply will not tolerate us for too much longer, you should watch “Reds”.
Once, we were decent people. Now we are entirely too self-indugent, demanding that reality doesn’t interfere with Saturday night. I’ll assure you, the rest of the world is working on IEDs as Saturday night specials. We’re toast.
neurophius @ 124
Did Flynt say specifically it was a senator? I missed that.
TheOtherWA heading up to Portland & Seattle the first couple of weeks of Nov ….. how about a NW firepup meeting?
ReneND @ 125
We don’t know. Flynt said it would rock the world of politics on Neil Cavuto. (FOX)
“Network” is the Saturday night movie on channel 28 in Los Angeles.
Are you mad as hell?
Excellent letter, TimeTogether.
Millineryman @ 131
How nice!
TheOtherWA @ 133
I thought he did. But on the other hand, Caputo was trying to put words in his mouth, so it was a little unclear what he was actually saying.
Ray – in case you don’t visit here during the days, we do plenty of fretting and work.
On Saturday Night, we dance.
Love Ehlo Kyuurhi, by the way.
Now we are entirely too self-indugent, demanding that reality doesn’t interfere with Saturday night.
this directed at me, ray?
Margot @ 96
Oooooh – stop my pounding heart!
newtonusr @ 108
SWEET! I downloaded the Ned Mudd set earlier. It was fantastic or at least somewhere north of El Paseo. YMMV.
Margot @ 132
Yes, that would be totally surprising!
But… I was factoring in what revelation would be most surprising and do the most damage. Course, there were already some votes for Lieberman. ;)
katymine @ 134
I’d love that! It would have to be a weekend for me, since I work evenings.
Ray Duray @ 144
Listening to Texas now.
TheOtherWA @ 146
Where are you?
That’s all I got for you tonight, pups, see you in the morning.
Musing…the time change on Nov 4 will actually work out great for me wrt to my work schedule — an extra hour of sleep on the weekend that my squad works…woo hoo!
katymine @ 147
In SW Washington, near Portland, actually.
g’night eg, and thank you…sleep well!
Margot @ 96
Nope, you’d be wrong. It’s McConnell. The gay threads are way ahead of Larry Flynt’s tease. They’ve already spilled the beans on this cross-cultural, cross-dressing cretinous Celt.
Check the leads here: http://www.americablog.com/
Suzanne @ 128
Wow that’s nice!
g’nite eg and thanks for the wonderful sat nite dance party
good night egregious, see you at the end of this thread i’m sure.
Nite, eg!
Katymine, email me at theotherwash at yahoo dot com. We’ll figure out details.
egregious @ 25
y’all certainly inspire me – and crack me up!
Was going to post about Liddy Dole and found that Teddy and Howie were already on the case and talking up her newly announced opponent Jim Neal. Speaking of courage..
Every logical opponent in the state seems to have declined to take her on because of her huge money bags. And a state dem consultant has been advising that political money would be more wisely spend in other races.
Now Jim, a relative newcomer to the scene and a out gay has announced. Even if his chances appear slim, anything could happen in the next year.
TheOtherWA @ 151
The plan is to fly in around the 3rd, drive down to Florence to see the parents…. Elmore will be in on Tuesday(6th) from what ever MNF game he is doing and then drive up to Seattle on Friday…. so it will have to be on the 3rd.. and leave the 15th…
Good night, egregious.
first weekend in november looks like pups will be meeting up in tx, so cal and pacific northwest.
makes me smile at just the thought
ok I’ve really hit the wall now…time to split. Good night all!
Suzanne @ 161
Harmonic convergence :-)
TheOtherWA @ 157
I probably need to do a trip to Portland sometime in the next couple weeks.
Would love to know more as details develop.
Nite LL!
Open Letter to the National Media*
*Who don’t know S*** about Southern California.
LoudounLib @ 161
Sleep well LL
SunnyNobility #158- I read Howie and Teddy’s comments about Jim Neal. Really interesting.
I went over to read the chat he had, but found it hard to follow- not his fault, but bec. of the comment structure (same for dKos).
I am looking forward to learning more about him.
waving at Margot good night!
Loo Hoo. @ 160
Relieved to hear you are ok, Loo Hoo.
g’night MM, sleep well and we’ll touch base later :-)
alrighty, night time for me as well…*waves to all staying, as well as all departing*
LoudounLib @ 162
Heh, heh, heh. I like that sound of that.
**waving to all the leaving sleepy pups**
RBG @ 164
You can communicate with me via FB… theotherwash you have email
I’m nodding off to. See everyone tomorrow. *yawn*
I’ll make coffee in the morning, can somebody bring muffins or bagels? :)
I have whole grain bagles and lox… will that do?
Suzanne @ 161
Wish you could come, Suz. Any possibility?
katymine @ 176
I’m not a picky eater, that sounds good.
TheOtherWA @ 179
Wild smoked salmon and organic bagles from Trader Joes
Millineryman @ 99
I wonder how many German citizens in the 1920s and 1930s met Adolf Hitler and said “it’s a private time for him and I just couldn’t intrude”.
How might the world have been different if they had? Not that your too-conservative congresscritter is a Hitler, but have you noticed lately that America is being destroyed by too many yes-men and yes-women acquiescing to evil?
Shouldn’t you have asked your Congressman if he’d read “The End of America” and if he hadn’t why not?
My sister in Scottsdale, AZ travels in the same social whirl as the John McCains. Yet she is completely incapable of confronting that fascist. So I understand why you might want to stick to the script of your life, as well as your play and your props.
On the other hand, I’ve been nearly arrested at events featuring Senators Ron Wyden and Gordon Smith when I’ve been yelling at them in public meetings.
Sometimes, it means the world to be a patriot.
And in America today, I can’t think of any time that any American should take any time out from confronting the evil that has overtaken Washington, D.C.
As Thomas Jefferson said, “when the government fears the people, there is freedom. And when the people fear the government, there is tyranny.”
It’s time for you to take on your Congressman and hold him to account.
And the next time you meet your timid congresscritter, consider wearing bloody hands like our CodePINK heroine confronting Condy Rice. It might give that little Congressman a tightened scphicter, which would be, as we say, “a good thing”.
Citizen Ray
Valley Girl @ 103
um, there have always been rumors in deecee about Warner. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it was he, especially after he backstabbed Webb on the troop respite vote, having promised to bring four or five GOPs with him to vote for it.
The retirement may have been forced by flynt, and now flynt feels Warner is still betraying his country by not voting for the troop respite bill. Remember, we all thought Warner would be freed by his retirement to vote his conscience. But he still enables the BoyKing’s Irak Occupation.
Larry Flynt may not like that.
Thousands march against Iraq war
Published: Oct. 28, 2007 at 1:16 AM
NEW YORK, Oct. 28 (UPI) — Tens of thousands demonstrated against the Iraq War Saturday, the fifth anniversary of the U.S. Senate vote authorizing President George W. Bush to use force.
Rallies and marches were planned in 11 major cities and several dozen smaller ones, organizers said. They included New York, Chicago and San Francisco.
In New York, United for Peace and Justice said tens of thousands of people participated, NY1, a local cable-news channel, reported. They marched from Greenwich Village to Foley Square, near the federal courthouse and federal building in lower Manhattan, where a peace fair was held.

katymine – do you ever read orangeclouds diary at kos? She did a piece about wild versus farm-raised salmon a while back. Pretty cool.
With that I shall bid a fond adieu! Aloha Oe!!!
TheOtherWA @ 173
A triple Ding !
newtonusr @ 184
yep… Jill [Orangecloud] and I are yearlykos friends…. she was here just a few months ago to see her uncle perform at the Improve…
Nite CT…
katymine @ 180
katymine- you are making me really really nervous, as to what I might do… ;)
I have only discovered that there actually IS one Trader Joe’s in the 100 mile vicinity of where I live, and, it is ~ 10 miles away.
Please, please stop talking about wild smoked salmon and organic bagels, or I will be tempted to get in my car and drive there right now, so I can be the first in line tomorrow morning!
katymine @ 180
Yum!
katymine @ 187
Cool. I missed her talk in Chicago, of course, but I love her bent.
Loo Hoo. @ 178
unfortunately not this time… still trying to sell the little cottage by the creek in the redwoods
TeddySanFran @ 182
Teddy! Wow! Thank you for that info.
Really puts a different perspective on things.
I had NO idea.
blame it all on Jane…. she is the one who told me about the book “the Cure” and it is about organic and raw food to help cure your cancer… so now I only shop at TJ’s, Sprouts and Whole foods…. Been filling the donation barrels at the food bank with all my old stuff.
The sprouted granola whole grain bagles are the Best….
Valley Girl @ 193
Neither did Liz Taylor, and… boy was she surprised!
Valley Girl @ 193
Stop my pounding heart! Will Liz Taylor tell all on Larry King?
Never made the connection between Liz Taylor and THAT John Warner.
Teddy @195
Neither did Liz Taylor, and… boy was she surprised!
Oh my. Thx for teaching me italics ;-)
Except that there are no Republicans who want to run away screaming and join the good guys. They are getting everything they want with the Democrats cowed and caving at every turn whether it’s legislation on guns or legislation on butter.
The conveyor belt that is rolling swiftly along with the Senate Select Intelligence Surveillence Bill giving complete Telco Immunity and sole decision over what constitutes illegal wiretapping to the AG is a metaphor for that.
The surrealistic state secrets argument of the Administration has been adopted by the Democrats in Congress. No way they will block invoking cloture if there is a fillibuster or override a veto.
And Bush has nothing to veto on this current roll over by the Democrats.
Democrats are always cowed and caving on every piece of legislation the administration wants.
I haven’t and won’t see any significant legislation that they pass.
Interesting that Hoyer announced Friday that the work hard Dems have decided the 5 day work week is too gruelling and they’re going back to Thursday as the last day of their week peppered by long vacations throughout the year.
just a driveby hello all to the greatest ‘pups in the world.
egregious, if you’re still up, spokoina noch, and all that.
thanks for the uplifting music.
i gotta go do stuff, now! (gets up off of rusty dusty and
clicks the button)
TeddySanFran @ 195
Now that I think of it, I did find some pixs a while back while I was researching Seersucker Thursday. He WAS wearing some very odd shoes.
be back if I can find a link to the pixs
Teddy, I haven’t found the pix yet, but this is a Keninny classic:
Oh man, is it Seersucker Thursday already? And all my seersucker’s at the dry cleaner! (I get all my fashion tips from Trent Lott and Thad Cochran)
Valley Girl @ 202
That is a classic.
Teddy, I found the pic. It’s even worse than I thought. Check it out.
omigod!
is warner the dood in the yella pants vg?
Valley Girl @ 204
Olympia Snowe, unclear on the concept: black hose with seersucker?
Oh Maw God Valley Girl – archivist emeritus! ;~)
Suzanne @ 205
That would be he.
Suzanne @ 205
Yup.
And it’s really easy to tell the richest in the group: she whose clothes fit the best, DiFi.
Warner looks like hell in that get-up, VG. At first I thought DiFi was the worst-dressed woman until I noticed Collins. You just don’t wear black stockings with seersucker.
Valley Girl @ 203
At one point the wearing of a red tie was code for being gay. I’m just saying
In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, a green carnation and a red tie or neck scarf signaled the same-sex interests of the wearers. The green carnation was particularly associated with the Wilde circle and provided Robert Hichens with the title of his 1894 satire, The Green Carnation, published just a year before Wilde’s catastrophic fall. The red tie, as a symbol of homosexuality, is seen in the paintings of Paul Cadmus.
In the early 1970s, an elaborate back-pocket handkerchief code was developed, with various colors signaling specific sexual preferences.

Okay, Olympia.
Who is the guy on the far left?
Is it Dorgan?

hi,not trying to be all preachy here.
10 miles is easy bicycle distance.
a pleasant slow treadly.a tray or box on the back and you can carry heaps.one of the things i like about biking is,bird sounds and such.the money you don’t spend on fuel can go to salmon.

Suzanne,
I’m located just east of Ecotopia, about 80 miles outside of Sublimity, Oregon.
I’d be keen on meeting with these so-called “Pacific Northwest” radicals. Where might they be a gatherin’?

Oh, she’s very friendly with the Southern senators; their gentlemanly courtliness sweeps her off her gawky feet every time. See Southwick, FISA, et al.
Ok…. SNL is over with…. I am heading to bed… thanks for such fun tonight… my disability would be mighty boring if it wasn’t for FDL…
ray, it hasn’t been decided but check back here nitely and you should know the whens and wheres.
katymine @ 217
mrbrat will love this photograph – he has long thought DiFi a Good Ole Boy in high drag.
Ray Duray @221… I will be heading into Portland around Nov 3rd… will keep you posted
TeddySanFran @ 209
And, during my research into Seersucker, I discovered that DiFi bought seersucker suits for the other ladies. I kid you not.
And, btw, in that photo, Norm Coleman is the guy at the far right. The one with the really big teeth.
Howie’s bete noir. I remember quoting in an FDL thread a comment that Howie had made at DWT re: Coleman. Howie had said “he was a shit then, and he is a shit now”.
Howie appeared later in the thread at FDL, saying, well, I don’t normally talk that way.. or words to that effect… very very funny.
Howie and Norm went to the same school, btw.
also, ray, if you are a facebook member, click on the f’s on our names, especially those of the northwest radicals. most of the hammering out of those details will take place there

see you tomorrow!
ray, lots of the planning of those kinda things happen on facebook so as to not clutter up serious threads with the social stuff
Nighters, Teddy.
may- I would love to be able to bicycle. But, the city where I live is not bicycle friendly. Nor is it bicyclist- friendly. Stories of bicyclists actively being targeted. Driving my car in traffic, with an upside down US flag sticker on the boot is as brave as I can get. ;)
Time for me to bail, folks. I’m tired and starting to become cranky – you do not want The Cranky Mod tonight would be my guess
i leave you in the hands of The Lurking Mod, who just happens to be coming up for lunch tomorrow at the little cottage by the creek in the redwoods
Hey to the Lurking Mod then, Suz! And thanks, LM.
TeddySanFran @ 195
Teddy,
Fool me once, don’t get fooled again. I lived in San Francisco long enough to learn that if you aren’t working an angle, you are the angle.
Square your comments with Elizabeth Taylor’s outre defense of Michael Jackson. You trying to tell me that Liz is naive both about homosexuality and pedophilia?
I may have been born at night, but it sure wasn’t last night. Liz Taylor was no more suprised by John Warner’s sexual pecadillos than I am by the naivete of the puppies at FireDogLake. And you can take that to the bank.
Ray, lighten up.. i believe that was a joke
TeddySanFran @ 229
He nicknamed her GOB Feinstine when she was a fledgling politico back in the day.
Niters Teddy & Suzanne! Sweet dreams.
TeddySanFran @ 209
It takes decades of political exploitation to achieve such sartorial splendor. Most people, like me in my sweatpants, just don’t have the stamine to be so dishonest and self-serving for so long.
Valley Girl @ 233
yuk, that’s a drag.there are bike paths here and also going via side streets means i find all sorts of things.maybe as fuel prices rise more and more the voice of alternate traffic will be heard where you live.
when i first started getting around on the bike i was really surprized a the distances i travelled.you are right about the yob factor,i don’t ride on the road at all,it is the foot path for me.pedestrians have right of way but there is room for all.
A while back I read a Liz Taylor interview wherein she talked about her marriage to Warner.
Said after their marriage he set her up as lady of the manse in VA. Also said (or implied) he’d abandoned her there, while she’d forgone her career to be a good political wife. In that era, marrying Liz would have offered a lot of cover for most anything.
Dear heavens. At MSNBC they have a video of a bulletproof backpack for schoolkids.

Thank you for your adult comments. What a refreshing improvement on the astonishingly juvenile froth I’m seeing on this thread.
Children, it is time for you to pay attention.
Your nation is at risk. America is dying, and I’m being reprimanded for not getting the joke. OK. I’ll accept that.
But I “WON’T BACK DOWN!”
Yeah, Suzanne, I get you. I don’t get the joke. I don’t even remotely see how letting America be destroyed by Saturday night time outs is remotely useful.
Were the Bolsheviks taking late night time outs in January, 1917 when they represented no more than 1/8 of 1% of the Russian population? Hell, no. They were organizing. And when they represented 1/4 of 1% of the Russian population they led the successful revolution that took down Russia’s George Bush.
It’s time for all Fire-puppies to drag their heads out of their a**es and wake up to how the world works.
And if you must know, look up “A Hora” that’s a crime against humanity when the CIA used the call to action “It’s Time” (A Hora in Ukraine) to steal an election.
It’s time for this crowd to become far more politically sophisticated.
You are ready. You just need to learn how to think for yourselves and not let the kulture tear you down.
The Revolution Starts… whenever you want.
This is history’s lesson.

Home from Greek dinner and an Anchorage Symphony Orchestra concert. All jazz-based pieces, with a new violin concerto by Chris Brubeck, Dave Brubeck’s son. Great concert!

ET – great, great work on the trial.
From Fred James’ report of yesterday, the case sounds like a real mixed bag. The government’s case whittled down?

Goodness, what an evening with some of the new kids! They make us seem *moderate*!
Goodnight.

Had dinner with Fred, who then went with us to the symphony concert.
The case against Kohring is the weakest of the flock brought to trial so far. It appears to me that the Feds have barely made their case in three of the four charges, and have proven the fourth pretty securely. The Feds have two more days of presentations before they wrap it up.
Thanks for visiting the blog! First time I’ve done anything like this.

Moderation in the face of evil is contemptible.
We live in an extreme world. It’s time to decide if you want to destroy America. If you do, remain a moderate. George Bush will cover your behind and you won’t be responsible for caviling and kvetching in the most reprehensible regime on the planet. Your nullity will be acknowledged and accepted as a princess’s perogative.
If on the other hand you wish to be real… If you wish to be a Real American, then it is time for you to take up Barry Goldwater’s creed: “I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice! And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue!”
Moderation, puppie shit and pop culture are the banes of FireDogLake.
People, it is time for a Revolution! According to Tom Jefferson’s schedule, we’re only about 120 years overdue. REVOLUTION NOW! ought to replace the half-assed attempt that the liberal’s heroine Amy Goodman is making at Democracy NOW!
It’s time for the denizens of this thread to MOVE LEFT! Get Real! You are the most likely people to be able to think your way out of a paper bag. I don’t say that about many people in America. Most are even more naive than Fire-pups. And that is really, really depressing.

Excuse me. Lamb is a byproduct of odious “free trade” policies that were outdated when Britain failed in their ridiculous “First Afghan War”.
With BP excrudescence trading at a mere USD92/bbl how is that squeezing you fat cat Alaskans? You getting rich? Or Reich?
I remember the phat years in Juneau when I happily spent the excesses of government severance taxes. That was a good time, nonpariel, though few Alaskans would have understood the word. Or world, for that matter.
oops, just checked Pawlenty’s photo and realized that all this time i had put Pawlenty’s face with Coleman’s name …..

Also note that DiFi looks right at home with all those Republican sapsuckers. Kind of how she has been throughout her career.
Good morning, pups. Today in the NYT there are MoDo, Friedman and Rich. MoDo has imagined Timmeh interviewing Darth Cheney on Meet the Press. As ghastly as it is, it sounds completely and utterly believable. Mr. Friedman says we may have introduced so many CO2 emissions into the atmosphere that it may no longer be possible to tell where Mother Nature ends and we start. Mr. Rich writes on Rudy Giuliani and the “values voters.” His column is titled “Rudy, the Values Slayer.”

The coffee and tea are ready, and I have apple cinnamon muffins with pecans in them that I just pulled out of the oven. I looked at that picture that Valley Girl linked to at 204 and I’m thinking a quick splash of brain bleach wouldn’t hurt before my second cup of tea. Have a grand day.
morning!
thanks again marion for your most excellent question in yesterday’s book salon. you made it easier for me to ask my question (and i was pretty nervous about it – that is, until i saw pach’s comments).
Good morning pups!
Ed*ard Teller @ 261
Sounds lovely. Thanks for indulging me.
selise, Pach really did take out after him! I may have to get that book just to see if I can parse my way through the weasel words. It creeps me out the way “the experts” seem to think that slicing us down into ever-narrower slivers of interest groups to pander to is the way to win an election. Although I guess they’re terrified of what would happen in a simple “guns or butter” election…
mornin’
Mornin’, to all the early pups -
Brrrrrrrrrr! Who turned on winter while I was asleep?
Well, it’s time for me to get to work for the private client. I lurk intermittently through the day, so behave yourselves… Here’s hoping that the Sunday Morning Gasbag lineup isn’t too awful.
Marion in Savannah @ 274
I’m planning a trip to Savannah for the garden tours in March. Any tips?
I’m up early, picked up a tug of coffee from panera bread for everyone…the dark blend
if you didn’t have your breakfast I also brought bagels, mixed, get them while they’re hot (so to speak) and get them soon if you expect your favorite to be therer, I got some raison walnuts, some asiago, a few cinamon crunch and then the standards
I also got those pink bow ties that contributes to the cancer societies…there’s cranberies in those…not bad
there are a few soufle’s, mostly shinach artichoke…they’re not gonna last so if you want one pick it up right away
anyway, g’mornin firedogs!
Marion in Savannah @ 272
my hypothesis: it’s all about market manipulation – where we are the consumers and the candidate is the product. when a person who’s ok with representing tobacco companies and blackwater sees politics like that, the idea of “selling” a candidate who does not represent the people probably seems normal in which case, we probably seem crazy.
i’d really like to do a debrief with pach, jane, tom, marcy and all of us.
Thanks perris, those cinnamon crunch bagels sound mighty tasty.
Well, the good news is that the story of the fake presser still has legs; woulda thought it’d be “disappeared” by now. *g*
Please don’t take this for fact b/c I really wasn’t paying close attention to the idjit box when it happened: I could almost swear it was MSNBC that was running (yesterday?) when some female said something to the effect that they always vetted stuff like that. But it was *MSNBC* in addition to faux that ran the thing, at least according to what I’ve heard since. Dog, I’d be dangerous if there were any memory cells left in the ol’ brain! Doubt it’d be something Media Matters might have noticed but maybe ought to check to see.
Dodd’s on MTP.

Good morning from L.A., & an early morning it is in Santa Monica.
The peace march downtown was incredibly moving. Six friends & I went- we were drizzled on, but who cares in that company- Ron Kovic spoke & many others, & wonderful camaraderie among all who were there. Also great local music. I’m lousy @ estimating #s, but several thousand were undoubtedly there. A nurturing sense of community pervaded the long line of jostling people going down Broadway.
We all need to participate in these marches during the time of BushCo, if for no other reason than to feel a renewed sense of purpose & @ one w/others who feel the same. From the early press here, very little notice paid by the local media- it’s fire wrap up that rules the headlines & on local tv channels. Nary a whisper of our peace march.
Two friends who are graduates from Covenant House on Western Ave. had a big problem during the night, so a long night straightening that out, but going to hit the hay now. Thank you, FDL, for all you do everyday.
Morning everyone. I just went through the Penn book salon. Selise, your question wasn’t answered I see…..or did I miss it?
Mornin’ all!
Waccamaw – The person responsible for that sham presser is no longer at FEMA.
twolf1 @ 285
Sounds like a promotion to me.
twolf1 @ 285
LOL
GAK! difi, hunter, graham, lott and huckabee – not what you’d call a “wholesome” lineup for Sunday morning.
cherttie claiming FEMA employees will be “disciplined” for the faker……guess that means promotions are in the offing. ;-(
P.S. to twolf and eCAHN – ROTFLMAO! What I was typing above as you guys responded; great minds etc…. *g*
Sunday Talking Heads thread!
solai @ 283
correct. it was not answered.
but neither was jane’s (the host asks and on topic question and the guest ignores it???) or a bunch of other people’s. ‘course some of our’s were only vaguely on topic – but still. the whole thing was very weird.
imo, it wasn’t an intellectually honest engagement…i reacted to it more like i do to a commercial (i try very hard NOT to watch or listen to commercials on tv or radio, don’t have an option with the blogs).
but i came to the discussion with a bias… so maybe i’m not being fair.
Saw on CNN that an African American lawyer talk show host is running a no buy day on November 2nd. No one uses any money except for essentials. i.e. a bus to work. Brown bag it if you generally buy lunch. It’s an African American protest, the Jenna 6 etc, but no reason the anti-war movement can’t join them. Doesn’t take courage, but it could be big. Tell everyone in your address book and have them tell everyone in theirs. Sorry I don’t have links, I just saw this one interview.
selise @ 290
Solai you were so polite. If I thought Penn was a threat well…no Jane invited him and I can’t control my temper!
Hilary is going to have to play catch up on the issues even if she wins which I admit is likly.
If Penn had a chance of changing people into moderates with his micro trends that don’t adress our majority macro trend I might have risked Jane’s anger.
Politics is about wining the majority.
Micro trends or Penns assumed conclusion without facts which looks to win a nonexistant center which surprisingly hates Hilary the most (why is she listening to him mind control?) is a loser.
Penn’s ussing polls to change peoples minds/also push polling? is a failure that well should fail we should not be tryng to get him to see the error of his ways so that we make the failure bigger so Hilary can’t ignore it/us anymore.
Micro trends work when nobody is paying attention to politics.
Given the war we just have to tell the majority of people that Hilary is not quite the Lefty they think she is.
But God how I wanted to place him on the coals!
OK so I don’t know what I’m talking about. With a fit of belated inspiration I googled “No Buy Day” and got thousands of links. Apparently this move against consumerism has been going on for some time, all unbeknownst to me.
Ah. Back to the drawing board.
Sorry if anyone’s posted – can’t read all the comments now – but a music video made me think about sharing new Springsteen, “Last to Die” (for a mistake) – I was in Cleveland the night before elections in 2004, and Springsteen sang and Kerry spoke, and…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWxrw4PHmPg
Why is Hilary trying to win the 30%ers with Penn’s “cough ” help when they hate her the most? The GOP is already running against Hilary because she has the most brand name recoginotion as a lefty to the majority.
The thing is the 70%ers (Chirst I’m a moderate now) want a strong antiwar president Dodd is a leader and I hope he breaks through.
If the American public get more informed about Hilary she is done.
The 30%ers will not change their minds about Hilary a bird/voter in the Pocket s worth two in the Bush.
Simple math at 70% she has two birds to the 30%ers one girl is gettin greedy and risks having her two birds fly away while she dives into Bush country trying to get the other Bird!
70% is a freakin mandate why risk it?
I have such faith that Penn is a loser that I will not risk being rude to Jane’s guest. Ending the war now is my most important concern Penn is a crude joke not worth even a lowly commentor’s concren. And certainly not worth Jane getting angry. As my Mom said right before my Dad washed my mouth out with soap if you have nothing good to say shut up to which I add tell your moma everything about the guests later… in private.
