Fratboy McFlightsuit amused himself today pretty well, but San Diegans trying to return to determine the condition of their homes were not amused:
Rancho Bernardo residents began their journey back home with a surprise today.
They were stuck in traffic for two to three hours sitting in their cars at a standstill because of President Bush’s visit to their community.
Police and the CHP had blocked off Interstate 15 ramps to West Bernardo Drive, which leads to the recovery center that was opened yesterday. Cars lined up for miles on the freeway.
Spreading comfort wherever he goes:
Fed up with waiting, Barbara Gandre said she needed to drive her 87-year-old mother home to pick up medication for her 89-year-old husband.
Her mother just recovered from pneumonia in September and the family did not have masks to wear over their faces. They sat in their car with the windows rolled down because they only had a quarter tank of gas left.
“I cannot run the air conditioning or I’ll run out of gas,” Gandre said. “I am sick of this,” she said.
Fool me once, shame on you…. well, you know the rest.

Hi Teddy
Dont’ get me started on Commander Codpiece and those damned C-130s that just sat there on the ground.
I could just spit.
Hey Suzanne,
What the heck?
Hi everyone!

Hi Teddy!
Evening all. Our self-absorbed and self indulgent little emperor at his finest today.
TeddySanFran @ 7
It’s got legs.
howdy, TSF!
Bush and the Bushies insensitive to regular folk? No way!
Is it true that they had to ground the water bombers so he could visit the disaster area ?
If you want to look at some pictures that show the air quality this week, I posted some here:

darkblack @ 16
Heh ;-)
Hi Teddy
I wonder how many homes burned down because of the air restrictions due to Chimpsters visit?
Petrocelli @ 14
Not quite. We had no C-130s with water tanks until Tuesday, when they sent us 6 from as far away as North Carolina. And those sat on the ground until yesterday. Supposedly they were flying yesterday afternoon but the only things flying on the hours of news coverage that I’ve seen were tiny airplanes and small helicopters. It’s a scandal.

Full moon will be at it’s peak within half an hour (12:51 am EDT, 9:51 pm PDT), involving two very stubborn signs. Some folks say full moon is a time of potent spiritual energies flooding the planet, if they’re too much for us, we act nutso. So, as Petro suggests, Breathe. Use the energy wisely and lovingly.

You’re being awful Stark there TSF, aren’t you?

Three Texas surgeons were playing golf together and discussing surgeries they had performed. One of them said, “I’m the best surgeon in Texas. A concert pianist lost 7 fingers in an accident, I reattached them, and 8 months later she performed a private concert for the Queen of England.”
The second surgeon said. “That’s nothing. A young man lost both arms and legs in an accident, I reattached them, and 2 years later he won a gold medal in field events in the Olympics.”
The third surgeon said, “You guys are amateurs. Several years ago a cowboy who was high on cocaine and alcohol rode a horse head-on into a train traveling 80 miles an hour. All I had left to work with was the horse’s ass and a cowboy hat. Now he’s president of the United States.”

We had all of those Marines with their helicopters and planes, and there was a red tape misunderstanding that got cleared up, but then they said, Oh, it was too dangerous to fly by then. But those little planes and helicopters were still flying in the places where it wasn’t too dangerous.

Recall that Bush, referring to Putin and Russias providing light-water reactors (under Russian and IAEA supervision) to Iran said
“So I’ve told people that, if you’re interested in avoiding World War III, it seems like you ought to be interested in preventing them from having the knowledge necessary to make a nuclear weapon.”
Not just an attack on IRAN…but WWIII…between multiple nations, including major powers, opposite one another.
Bush was essentially telling Putin…”YOU will be responsible”. And recall what he has said about those that “assist” terrorists…”You are either with us or you are against us.”
This wasn’t making a threat to Iran…it was making a threat to Russia.
Let me try

We are still not in the evac area – a couple blocks from it, but that is far enough. This evening is the first time I haven’t seen fire in a couple days. The smoke is a bit lighter. They’ve about doubled the fire personnel and I think most of the burn has gone up and over for the moment, but I can’t be sure – heard a couple fire trucks go screamin’ by w/ lights and sirens about a half hour ago, but I couldn’t say where they’ve gone… now if I could just get a bottle of oxygen to go with my bottle of beer, I’d be a happy camper.

I can’t remember where I read it, but the cheap n’ cheesy OC County Supervisors decided we had plenty of fire fighting aircraft…. a whole 2 teeny, old, decrepit helicopters… as compared to LA County (granted much larger in area and population) has 12 of various sized helicopters and fixed wing… and wouldn’t cough up any extra money for planes…
you don’t suppose the reason we got no planes during the fire is that the State coordinator was flippin’ the bird at us big time?
This doesn’t bode well…
“Turkey warned Thursday that U.S. objections will not stop its troops from crossing into Iraq to pursue Kurdish separatists, while a steady stream of U.S.-made Turkish fighter jets roared across the skies along the border.
High-level Iraqi officials arrived in Turkey as part of frantic efforts to persuade the government not to order an attack on Kurdish guerrilla bases in northern Iraq, and the U.S. ambassador to Iraq sent American diplomats to join the delegation.” (AP)
Katrina was bad. The Southern California fires were bad. The possible earthquake potential in California would dwarf these events. If it ever happens I hope it is after 2008.
peanutbutter @ 227
You’re a lot closer to it, then. I’m in Anaheim, two miles north of Dizzyland. I shot some photos today in Redondo Beach, and two days ago at the Orange Hill restaurant parking lot, and on Monday I shot the wind damage right around my house.

We’ve got winter! Six inches of snow on the ground. Starting to blow – 35 now, supposed to get up to 85 knots tonight.
I’ve got to drive into Anchorage tomorrow early to continue covering the Vic Kohring GOP Corrupt Bastard Club trial and defend the Course Content Guidelines of one of my courses to the UAA curriculum committee.

California fire smoke makes the best haze for Arizona Sunsets…. spectacular colors and just the right amount of haze to put up a great show.

Hey ET,
Winter here too. 45 at night and 70 daytime.
katymine @ 237
I think I’ll pass on that. 85 would be GREAT!
anybody hear from burns today?

Oh lord….Flooding up north and loss of water down south. *shudder*

We’re moving to Seattle or therabouts in about 2 years, when my husband retires. I’ll really miss SoCal, probably because I’m a native.
I was thinkin’ it might be nice to retire to Oregon… I think they skip these big fires up there for the most part…
OldCoastie @ 249
You’re kidding, aren’t you?
They won’t like you much until you get your new license plates, just like no one liked them until they got Oregon plates. Snerk.
oh and thank you for your support, good friends….I’ll be sure to have your backs in the unlikely event you ever exceed the bounds of acceptable moderated discourse.

I understand your 2008 reasoning, living in hurricane country myself. The realllllly scary part is the question of how many years it will take to undo the damage in all the agencies that have been gutted of competency and accountability during the reign of the thugs.

Young lady wearing a tight tight short skirt tried to board a Greyhound bus. Seeing that her skirt was too tight, she reached back and unzipped it a little. Tried to get on the bus again but couldn’t= skirt still too tight. So she reached back again and zipped it all the way down. At that point, the man behind her picked her up and put her on the bus. She loudly complained, saying he was a stranger and how dare he! The guy said, “But lady, I thought you liked me. You unzipped my zipper twice”.

More Proof That You Just Can’t Trust the MSM: The AP reports:
Al-Qaida sympathizers have unleashed a torrent of anger against Al-Jazeera television, accusing it of misrepresenting Osama bin Laden’s latest audiotape by airing excerpts in which he criticizes mistakes by insurgents in Iraq.
Users of a leading Islamic militant Web forum posted thousands of insults against the pan-Arab station for focusing on excerpts in which bin Laden criticizes insurgents, including his followers.. . .
“God fight Al-Jazeera,” railed one militant Web poster, calling the station a “collaborator with the Crusaders” for suggesting the tape showed weakness in al-Qaida and featuring discussions of how the tape reflected weaknesses and divisions among insurgents in Iraq.

laurence @ 274
the thing is
judging by the level of venom and sheer spiteful nastiness i’ve seen on other sites, with discussions prevented and waylaid,i suspect an awful lot of malicious comment doesn’t make it past the mods.what we see here, with the discourse humming along,is,i surmise, the result of judicious selection.
well done mods.
if the mods get a little twitchy every now and then, there is no real harm done.
allowing ones self to be characterised as a puppy dog and following orders not to make calls to your congress people,is harm done.

What’s up?? These are all very good people.
There was a bit of tension regarding I/P matters yesterday afternoon. IIRC, Kathleen and Oddmommy were involved but not Mitch. I can’t find any evidence of anything since then. What am I missing?
laurence @ 272
hmm. Obscenity can be allowed if it’s not violent but just plain expletive use. I’ve yet to see my own posts with swearing censored. As for those other words? The gambling and the drugs? Trip off spam issues, the others? Bring on trolls. If you’d stay here long enough and quit bitching about it, or asked politely? Maybe you would have an answer about those. The mods make it abundantly clear about those things.
Nite everyone… see ya all tomorrow
I’ll be 90 in 60 years. *grins* But i’m already working on my move to canada, but that was a goal long before this Maladministration came into power. But while i’m here, i’m working to change it. If only for the other part of my family that remains here in the US.
may @ 291
I want to second that opinion. The mods generally do an excellent job, and it is only their diligence that allows discussion of sensitive matters, e.g., the I/P issue, to remain even slightly cogent.
Sorry, Laurence, I’m on the mods’ side, here. This site is a community, as opposed to the bitchfests found in other places. The mods work real hard to help keep us a community. They, and the folks who pay out cash to keep the site going, have a right to impose limits. Would you let folks come in and trash your house that you paid the bills for? Would you allow them to diss on you for imposing limits on their behavior in your house?

laurence @ 299
FWIW, I’ve found it impossible to have a coherent online discussion of matters involving the I/P issue on unmoderated sites. I’m very grateful to FDL moderators for making such discussions possible.

I/P protocol?
evening pups. A quick question and a comment:
How does one post in script? I’ve figured out bold but can’t figure script.
Anyone interested in the National Guard questions last night might want to check out a fascinating very late post on the Late Late thread by cinnamonape. He describes the history and various uses of the guard through the years. Couldn’t really answer the question re: whether the states could quit maintaining a guard, but pointed in the right direction.
punaise @ 304
That’d be “IP”. “I/P” is filter-thwarting code for “Israel/Palestine.”
punaise @ 302
Israel/Palestine, but, wigwam, we’ve had some doozies here too…!
SunnyNobility @ 300
if you mean italics, highlight the text and click the little slanty ‘I’ button atop the editing box.

punaise @ 307
I did indeed mean italics. Thanks for both figuring out what I meant to say and answering it. merci
come to think of it, “I/P protocol” inadvertently skates a little to closely to the infamous Protocols of Zi*n.
wigwam @ 311
True, at DU on the World Series thread it got ugly… and it wasn’t even about the game…!
SunnyNobility @ 310
de rien!
back online for a few minutes, here’s my artsy input *g*
italics slant, script is actually connected cursive. Believe me, you don’t want that in comments. Due to the nature of our little pixel friends (too tired to give long art lecture, pups breathe sigh of releif) in short, non-serif fonts like we use in comments are much more readable than serif fonts, slanting the non-serifs is ok, but going to a true cursive at small size – it would be unreadable. Looks great in print tho if you don’t have to read too much at a time (i.e., cards, invitations).
if ya want the long tech explaination, ask tomorrow *g*
when you purport to host a “community,” it is quite appropriate to have rules about what behavior will and will not be tolerated, if they are clearly articulated and consistently applied. However, when no rules have been violated, and participation is prohibited nonetheless, it is no longer a “community.” It is a place where certain opinions are acceptable and some are not.
This is your place, FDL owner(s), and it is your prerogative to make it one where certain opinions are not tolerated even if they don’t violate your rules. However, you can’t have it both ways. You can’t pretend to be a place where disagreement can be freely maintained as long as it is civil……and then say that disagreement won’t be tolerated if an Honored Guest is visiting, no matter how civilly it is expressed. And you can’t have front page dignitaries engaging in direct attacks on third party public figures — which goes on here ALL the fucking time — and then get all huffy when some lowly commenter dares to challenge some other front page public figure who happens to have curried your favor at the moment. Or you theirs — whatever.
The point is, don’t be fucking hypocrites. To quote a popular commenter, “this is not a difficult concept.”

Go fer it!
Dear RBG -
I don’t mean to prolong whatever discord seems to have sprung up in recent threads (or this one) so please forgive my asking a question…and understand if your bold means absolutely no further discussion.
I lurk a lot but fail to catch up on some threads as they have become more frequent and longer over the years. Tonight is the first time the name “laurence” has hit my radar screen. The last comment at 11:38 has all the earsmarks of a troll and not an FDL regular or newcomer.
Just asking. ;-)
Ha! good ‘un, suze! you rule! (bad typographer pun there … )

Waccamaw @ 333
I don’t think it was trolling. He (and others) seem to be pissed off about something concrete that happened in the past 36 hours. I did a bit of hunting but couldn’t find it.
Yesterday sometime around mid-day there was a somewhat tense interchange involving Kathleen and a few others, but it seemed to end quite congenially.
oddmommy @ 320
oddmommy – I am one of the commenters who may have angered you this evening. If that is so, let me just say that I intended no slam on your opinion about the Supremes and the law.
Last night, i listened again to Senator Specter questioning Gonzales about his willingness to allow the Executive branch order a federal judge not to consider whether the Presidents use of executive privilege was lawful. Gonzales declined to answer, and as we know, the judge did just that. This was the substance of my reply.
As to the moderation practices here:
tonight, I’ve been called a starfucker, presumably because I admire and responded to Ms. Wolf. I’m no gentle flower, but one of the things I like about FDL is that we don’t call each other names here. If that isn’t within the purview of the mods, I don’t know what is.
I wouldn’t come here and direct fire on another pup, as I would hope no one else would. These folks take this seriously I think, and it is their house we’re visiting.
Please come back with this in mind – I would object if someone referred to you this way, and I’m sure FDL would also.
Waccamaw @ 333
All of the mods try, very very hard, to let the conversation go where it may. Usually, a gentle nudge will keep things from getting too far afield. Sometimes, that is just not sufficient to keep the thread from completely devolving…as happened this evening.
I will not speak to Laurence’s previous commenting history but the decision was made tonight to let his words in this thread speak for themselves.
Jeez. I wasn’t even mad, i was just making a point that the Mods have a job here to do to keep this place from falling into flame wars and whatnot. It was the other one that was flying off the handle.
I like and respect the job the Mods do. It’s what makes this place worth returning to, besides the entire community dynamic. The other was acting like they’d never heard the basic rules of conduct here. I’m still not mad. *shrugs* Just puzzled at the sheer venom from that poster in general. Something i can never really understand.
RBG @ 12:50 -
his words in this thread speak for themselves
They do indeed….and not well. *g*
And because it can’t be said often enough, I value greatly everything {{{you and the other mods}}} do to keep this place on a comparatively even keel. It’s one of the major factors that keeps me coming back.
wigwam @ 341

Re: whether the AG is the “law of the land” –Two AGs have permitted torture on their watch and the USSC has not ruled on the issue. That means that the AG is functionally indeed the “law of the land” unless and until the USSC overrules the AG because, unless one has had his and/or her head up the ass, torture happens and the Supreme Court hasn’t said “stop”.
We all had civics classes about the USSC’s decisions being the final ones, except if one really thinks about it, Congress could overturn ANY supreme court decision by either writing legislation (which could be vetoed by the president) or initiating the process to amend the constitution. So who really is the “law of the land?” That is why Bush v. Gore was such a legal mess because it had no constitutional remedy.
IOW, relentlessly demanding that commenters on a blog agree the the AG is not the “law of the land” is pedantically argumentative.
Secondly, free speech is not unlimited speech. An employee is not free to say anything he or she wishes to in the workplace.
NorskeFlamethrower @ 350
After scanning some of the prior threads, especially the one where Naomi Wolf was guest, I have to agree that with you.
Maggie @ 352
I’ve seen this tactic before, i.e., that of derailing discourse that threatens to be constructive by picking nits.
oddmommy @ 320
And just for the record…you weren’t banned.
Tucker Carlson was complaining today about the Blogs being intolerant and McCarthyesque where you have to agree to one opinion and there no legitamete debate.

Things Come Undone @ 356
Check under some of the big rocks on the far side of the Lake; one of them should be large enough of accomodate the “bowtie”.
NorskeFlamethrower @ 350
Agent Provocatuers generally act like family, and then go one step beyond. Their goal is to expose a group to trouble or foment disarray by trying to establish ever tighter “ideological badges” of membership.
Trolls drop “bombs”…they don’t try to calm waters.
Things Come Undone @ 349
I hope that Kathleen returns. BTW, is this the Kathleen of whom we’re speaking?
I have given up on ‘Crooks and Liars’ because of the deleting of posts there (and I don’t think I am the only one as the number of comments there has really dropped off). Am I the only one who has experienced this? Is this going on over there by the people in charge or is it just a rogue element over there? I ask here as this blog gets linked to quite often from there.
I don’t like getting edited or deleted, especially without cause, and if I am edited or deleted (as is their right as it’s their blog), I will not go there at all as is my right.
Anyway, there is a really good documentary on the Sundance channel called ‘Energy Wars’ which really does a good job of explaining how the world’s current energy crisis is affecting the world.
Waccamaw @ 357
Great Tucker is probably trying to cause trouble here.
When the Mclaughlin Group mentioned Amy Winehouse when they talked about celeberity rehab I knew they were reading Trex at late night.
I’m not 100% sure about Tucker and really don’t want to watch his show tommarow for tells.
But I don’t believe in coincidence or that Tucker has any loyal viewers unlike Rush who on his say so would bother to hassle us.
Smack_dab @ 360
I’ve never had mine deleted anywhere, but mine get held for moderation from time to time. And it’s fun to try to guess why, since most of mine are not so very controversial.
Exactly! *laughs* That’s how i take it too. If it ends up held for a bit i figure it’s for some odd reason that i have no clue on. Otherwise the basic guidelines are pretty easy to follow and for good reason. Unmoderated debate can turn into nothing but a free for all and feeding frenzy for trolls. Not a good experience.

Did you see this article describing the situation in the burned out Cal community that’s trying to keep bw from setting up their new complex?
http://www.calitics.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=4175
snippet:
Brian Bonfiglio, vice president of Blackwater West, said Blackwater remains determined to build its planned facility despite the wildfire’s devastation. Those plans include 11 firing ranges for small and large caliber weapons, an emergency vehicular training track, bunkhouses for 200 trainees, additional training facilities and a large armory to stockpile ammunition.
“I see a tactical operation center for East County fires,” said Bonfiglio, noting that Blackwater’s proposal includes water tanks capable of holding 35,000 gallons. “Can you imagine how much of a benefit it would be if we were operational now?”
Depends on one’s definition of “benefit”, doesn’t it?
Personally, I don’t consider some huge stockpile of ammo a bennie; but then what can I say as I sit some 30 miles from probably one of the larger stockpiles of military boom-booms anywhere. :-(

It was the last post with Naomi Wolf, I believe. Somewhat is summarized in the last EPU’d posts. I think that laurence has just forgotten that the are some terms of “agreement” for posting on this site…and that it’s pretty clear there are moderators.
So it’s not an “everything goes” site. The purpose, as stated by Jane, is to develop a “community” of activists aware about a variety of issues of import and to communicate and build lines of activity and support for one another. That’s HER VISION.
If anyone, including myself, gets over enthusiastic and starts to disrupt that vision, they can be upbraided (as I HAVE been, and will likely have occur in the future) and asked to revise a statement that is in moderation. Believe me, THAT has saved me from looking like an idiot or jerk on more than one occasion. Sometimes they have resulted in me clarifying what I actually meant so that it was much clearer and less offensive. I likely won over more people to my position than if my original aggro post remained.
Jane isn’t a government. Just as a record label like Jello Biafra’s Alternative Tentacles Records can make judgements as to what bands and political perspectives and genres they want to put on their label…Jane has the right (YES…the RIGHT) to do the same on her site. Jello would never offer up his label and resources to right-wing skin-head Neo-Nazis.
Any progressive blog wouldn’t allow Neo-Cons to take over the site through the assertion of their “free speech”. They’d be suckers to allow it. Certainly there are some public venues where they, and anyone, have freedom of expression, largely without constraint. But this is, and shouldn’t be IMHO, one of those sites which devolves into mutual name-calling and personal or collective insults of those that use it. Jane has the right to keep her vision. And people that can’t work within that vision can temporarily restrain their remarks or seek other places to scream about being “censored”.

Waccamaw, the only downside to A’ville in the winter is that it will actually snow there.
Some how it was always bad traveling when I had a meeting there in winter.

Well I wasn’t referring to any particular individual. Sometimes people become set in their positions and won’t let go (which is their right) despite someones countervailing arguments. Then they launch a personal attack, sometimes without even realizing it.
There was a word used that was likely to trigger problems when used against another because if one didn’t know the definition (which was offensive itself IMO) it would be considered a obscene attack on one character. Most folks wouldn’t know the slang definition of the word.
Thus language has to be judged by the speaker in that regard as to context. The mods are there to help point this stuff out.
Certainly putting something into moderation at the very end of a threads life wouldn’t allow some people to see that comment. But the same process would happen earlier. It’s not as if the mod and the next contributor are conspiring, or something!

there definitely is,in my opinion,
what i call the “conservative cadre”
whose aim is to stop cold any and all communication between people who would not normally have anything to do with one another.
they have an extensive array of techniques.from outright personal abuse to sophisticated doublespeak and
everything in between, their aim is to make each and every one of us feel isolated, weak and helpless.in your country the more people they can pursuade to cease voting the better, the more they can induce to walk away from political and social interaction the better.they are ,as far as i can see,a very small international group whose influence depends not so much on money as on secrecy.(tin foil hat here)they are losing influence because the communication revolution has taken away their greatest asset,
which is the rapid dissemination of information.they are fighting for what they see as their rightful place in the scheme of things.they are not capitalist or communists or of any ideological bent but will use any ideology where and whenever they serve their purpose.the greatest hope they have for survival is to remain unknown.it is too late for that.
end of rant.

Wizard! Snowbird and I have been battin’ the idea around for months now; I know how to get hold of the two of you because you are underlined but other pups on my informal list are gonna require more work for easy contact.
Let me state upfront: I. do. not. do. facebook! Will have to ask if Jane and Christy have any problems with highjacking threads from time to time for that purpose.
P.S. – Re. the snow….was thinking early January. After all the hols but before much likelihood of the white stuff. And the way the weather is going, who knows if we’ll get any at all. Plus set up a snow date from the get-go.

MR. Bill -
Liked the things from the site you mentioned the other day…..got some other pix?
cinnamonape @ 388
Nicely put, cinnamonape.
This is sometimes difficult, but always rewarding work. It is the community in the end who bring a larger perspective and make sense of an evening that simply fell victim to strains of the day.
Bravo, brava community.
Waccamaw @ 394
Hell yeah. My late wife, in one of her periodic fits of madness, destroyed a lot of images, but i’ve got a selection, mostly the large scale commission stuff, on disk.
MR. Bill -
Let me know what format they’re in and I’ll check with my ‘puter guru next week to find out whether I will be able to access them. Ran into this problem with some images a relative sent me a while back so have learned that’s a question that needs to be raised.
The Lurking Mod @ 395
I’ve only had a few comments held or deleted on other sites, and that is usually because I had included a link or something. And once Amada Marcotte called me a troll: the link I had tried to embed had caused the comment post to go to moderation. When I emailed to see if this was a problem, she said “You are whining about censorship, troll”. I apologized, and said “Its yer blog, run it as you will, and give the abuse you’ve taken” (this during the height of the Donohue/Edwards firestorm)”you have the right and duty to be suspicious and vigilant”, and she relented.
There is an interesting discussion up at Crookedtimber.org on censorship of ‘hate speech’. One commentor said it revealed more about the obsessions of the posters than about free speech.
Waccamaw @ 397
They appear to be bitmap images.
although now I see a couple of GIFs.
hate speech in and of itself does seem to act as a form of censorship, in that it results in truncated discussion.reasonable people just leave in disgust.
Good Morning, Firepups!
It’s drizzly and cool here in central Jersey this morning. We’ve got a bit more rain coming today, tonight, and tomorrow, then we finally get to have some normal-for-the-season temperatures [we’ve been having an extended summer this fall]. I might be able to wear some long-sleeved shirts for a change!
Haven’t been able to do much more than occasional lurking here at the ‘Lake lately—busy at work, busy at life right now.
Be kind to one another.
Work for peace, every day.
[Here’s the place to go for more information about Fall Out for Peace demonstrations in 11 cities nationwide tomorrow. Mr. NJP and I have lots of friends and neighbors who will be going, but we have some house chores to catch up on.]
Ok Good morning may and NJprog and cape and all.
Give my regards to MarioninSavannah, and work for peace.

I had a bit a fun with the progenitor of these two, “Big Mitch”, and had a bundle a fun runnin’ his gobblin ass thru the grease. Both “oddmommy” and “laurence” have been runnin’[ probs on the FDL perimeter for awhile, and they always try and go after the Moderators ‘cuz they know none a the regular Firpups’ll put up with their shit.
KEEP THE FAITH AND TAKE CARE OF EACH OTHER!!
And look at the moon, and autumn leaves if you got ‘em. Dispite the drought, they are great here…

reasonable people just leave in disgust.
True, that.
When it happens (infrequently, thank Dog) at the Lake, I just go away and hope for “calmer water” on some later thread. Don’t know that I would label myself “reasonable” *g*; it’s just a form of self-preservation in the world as we know it.
damn, chatty this morning
Waccamaw @ 408
well by reasonable i mean not dishing out more than i,m prepared to put up with myself.
lot of latitude there.
a while ago i let out an almighty screech on the subject of religion and had Suzanne call time.
oh well.
Good morning all. may @ 402

Good morning, pups. Today it’s Bobo and Krugman in the Times. Bobo’s solved his midlife memory crisis by getting a car with a GPS system, or something like that. Who cares? Mr. Krugman says that the subprime disaster should serve to remind us what Federal regulations are for.

The coffee and tea are ready, and the biscuits just came out of the oven. It’s Friday, and it’s raining outside. Life is good!
Good morning!
cinnamonape, I heard you wrote something really good about the history of the Guard. Do you have a link or remember what thread that was in? Thanks.
morning!
Speaking about hate.
Those Christian Conservatives just don’t know what to do with Mitch Romney. Does he belong to a CULT? A Fourth Abramamic Religion like ISLAM? Or is he in a deceived heretical sect of polytheists? Do Mormons believe they become Gods when the attain Heaven?
Here is what big poobah of Southern Baptists, Richard Land, has to say on the subject.
“A cult is a form of faith which does not comply with the essential teachings of the Christian faith but claims to be within the Christian faith or to be the true expression of the Christian faith, as opposed to being another religion like Judaism.”
Hmm. Given that Land doesn’t think that Mormonism follows the essential teachings and asserts it IS within the Christian Faith…one would think it is a CULT.
But, in typical muddle-headedness he doesn’t think that at all.
Land explained that he would look at Mormonism
“as another faith in the same sense that I would look upon Islam as another faith.”
Hmmmm. But the Muslims don’t assert that they ARE Christian, nor would they disagree with anyone saying that they don’t agree with the fundamental tenets of Christianity (at least not in it’s modern form).
I think the fairest and most charitable way to define Mormonism would be to call it the fourth Abrahamic religion – Judaism being the first, Christianity being the second, Islam being the third, and Mormonism being the fourth. And Joseph Smith would play the same character in Mormonism that Muhammad plays in Islam.”
But fundamental Christians don’t believe that any of these other faiths are reasonable either. And Judaism? Recall what Ann Coulter recently said about them. It’s almost as if she believes that Jews are “immature Christians” that need to accept their error and convert. As to Muslims, most fundamentalists are utterly antogonistic to the idea that Mohammed received any sort of revelation. Some regard him as hearing “devils”.
So don’t think that by asserting that Mormonism is one of the four Abrahamic faiths makes Romney any more attractive as a Presidential Candidate to fundamentalists. At least anymore than they would vote for a Muslim.

Good Morning!
After reading the late nite posts, it’s not disagreement of an idea or offering an alternate view that I object to. It’s the fixation on one view, without taking other views into consideration, and then acting like a victim. Reasonable people can disagree but reasonable people seldom blame and use hate words to end the discussion. When it gets to that level, I appreciate the mods stepping in and taking control. Last night I didn’t lurk for long because of the World Series and my love of the Red Sox might not be reasonable. not

Morning, folks. Looking forward to everyone taking a nice deep breath and making the decision to enjoy the day.
