Hey! (putting on pjs, shuffling off to bed now)
whew
back in!
wow… I was ready to reboot the computer
katymine @ 6
I switched to the other machine. Now switching back.
????..In addition to back pain..Did he quit Late Nite?
twas bumpy for a bit but appears ok now
is it working?
Elmore flew from Chicago to Portland OR and said that there were fires all along the route…
steve, i think it was snark and not quit for evah
(tiptoes back in room & speaks in small voice) I’m sorry for offending folks tonight, i’ll behave tomorrow! Goodnight, ‘pups.
katymine, so what did you do on your first day of freedom?
newdealfarmgrrrlll @ 12
who’d you offend?
sleep well
OT…
The AP reports tonight that House Democrats are on the verge of sending another SCHIP back to the floor, possibly as early as this week. The new bill will have some face-saving features in it to attact another dozen or so GOP representatives who are looking for a way out of the political blunder they stumbled into by sustaining Bush’s veto of the bill. Among those features will be clear language that the income cutoff for the program will be what it was in the vetoed bill: three times the national poverty level. And states will be allowed to verify eligibility like they can already.
What happened?
TRex was in a world of hurt this evening, folks. Your best wishes would be surely appreciated.
When I left him, he was on the couch just trying to ride it out.
I’ll let him fill you in on specifics tomorrow or whenever he turns up here again. Long story short:
He’s got some major pain in his lower back from an injury he received over the weekend and today it started to spasm so badly that it took his legs out from under him. He was gasping just to sit up when I got to him. Hard times, but we saw some footage from Southern California on the news and we both shrugged and said “Well, it could always be a LOT worse.”
Showdown: Rice Finally Agrees To Appear Before Waxman Committee
from Huff Po by The Huffington Post News Editors
2007-10-24-rice.jpgAfter years of ignoring congressional letters and rejecting requests for testimony, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has finally agreed to subject herself to a grilling before Henry Waxman (D-CA) and the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
With little fanfare and no additional details, the following entry was added yesterday to the committee’s schedule:
Hearing with Secretary Rice on Iraq Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Thursday, October 25, 2007, 10:00 AM at 2154 Rayburn House Office Building
newdealfarmgrrrlll @ 12
folks appear to be quite tightly strung tonight. i think the stresses of everything are affecting everyone and we seem to be quite quick to take offense.
there was a comment left downstairs that apologized to you, ndfg, for singling you out.
patrick @ 17
Thanx, PRex! Tell him we’re rooting for a speedy recovery…!
Patrick does he have health care providers? What’s he doing for the pain? Please tell him to cool and warm but nothing too hot or cold.
Technically EPU, but I ain’t going back down there.
The Santa Anas do seem to be slowly dying down — they were hurricane force on Sunday/Sunday night which was pretty much the problem — started everything then. They “died down” Monday and today, but what that means, is gusty and still windy. Had a tree branch fall in my yard and I have a tree I’m going to take out, as I didn’t like the way it was whipping around toward my roof.
Quieter today, yes, and in the process of dying down. Maybe some places are getting a shore breeze, not yet here and it’s very HOT here, which isn’t going to help.
The fires going east is mixed good and bad news. Good news — away from houses, generally (although up here in OC, it’s still going south as well as east, so Trabuco Cyn is next in line) BUT if it goes east and gets into the Cleveland Nat’l forest, this thing will burn for a good long long long while — with ashes everywhere. Hoo boy.
Hope they can dump enough stuff with the air tanks :-/
Betsy this is what I did on my Freedom day..
http://www.firedoglake.com/200…..nt-1053871
thanks for the trex update patrick.
send him our love and let him know that he is not to worry about anything other than getting better.
Yeah, best wishes to Trex. Back spasms ain’t nothing to sneeze at.
TPM
This is a problem for Reid..ignoring Dodd’s hold is an insider’s “deal”..being on the wrong side of the next President is a huge problem,IMO.
have some fun tomorrow, k katymine?
Commenting tonight is almost painful… I am going to head out to bed….. see everyone tomorrow…
Night time for me, too. Everyone in soCal, stay safe…
night katymine and pb
TRex has health insurance through his jobby job. He has some sort of anti-spasming medication and the elephant gun dose of ibup*phen.
I made a makeshift heating pad by boiling a dishtowel, putting it in a ziplock, putting that in a ziplock and then wrapping that in a towel. (I was a starving musician for a long time. I can improvise all sorts of medical stuff.) He had that in one hand and an ice pack in the other when I left.
He’s ok as long as he doesn’t move or breathe. Or laugh, cough or sigh.
That may be why he’s not trying to come around here tonight…
;-)
Chiro & Acupuncture did it for my herniated disk in ‘01. It was amazing.
I hope you feel much better very soon, TRex.
patrick @ 31
Likely muscle relaxers then. Good for him on the use of several forms of help. And what Suzanne said above, too. Thanks PtRex!
peanutbutter @ 25
My understanding is that there’s a bunch of inflammation around the nerves too. It’s bad.
I’ll let him fill you in on particulars. Fortunately, nothing was broken or torn, as far as I know.
Ironic bit:
we talked to four different administrators about billing and payment and only two actual health care people. That’s 2 to 1 bureaucrat to Doctor/Nurse Practitioner ratio.
AWESOME. I love our health care system!
Best wishes to TRex for pain to go away and good health to return soon.
Please let us know if there are financial concerns.
newtonusr @ 32
same here. and i deal with muscle spasms and spasticity daily.
neurophius @ 35
Also let us know if he’s interested in hearing about non-narcotic alternatives to muscle relaxers.
patrick @ 34
Fun isn’t it? In pharmacy we can end up talking to 3 different people in order to get a single Rx through sometimes. Soooo many things i’d love to change about this setup.
i’ve dealt with chronic pain since 82 with my left knee and really did not need 5 bulging discs and a damaged nerve sheath to my sciatic nerve in a 2003 fall. i manage spasms and pain daily too.
TexBetsy @ 37
Muscle relaxers are non narcotic entirely, TB. None of them are controlled unless he’s taking a mild tranquilizer in addition to it. But the homeopathic remedies? Are worth a try too, simply for the sheer lack of side effects!
patrick, tell him he can reheat the baggie in the microwave – about the same amount of time as one would heat a cup of coffee.
I am hoping that TRex is sleeping peacefully and I will pass on your best wishes to him tomorrow. However, he may be awake and reading this minutes or hours from now depending on his comfort and restlessness level.
I, however, am exhausted.
I am turning in.
I will pass on your best wishes the second I speak to him, Firepups.
Our family thanks you.
thanks for the update, patrick and sleep well.
newtonusr @ 32
never had back problems(touch wood)
but a skilful acupuncurist will probably give at very least, relief, and do no harm.
be kind to your bod Trex and complete healing wishes.
oh geez, i am the worst person in the world
trex, i am so sorry that i neglected to say that i was sending you warm, healing thoughts for quick healing
Suzanne @ 45
Sorry Suz – you don’t hold a candle to Beck, Coulter, Billo.
newtonusr @ 46
LOL!
Suzanne, you’re the best. Just 2 minutes late.
Thank you Newton, I was wondering how to word a message for Suzanne but you said it much better than I would. Worst person in the world indeed.
i’m an entire thread late, tex – i think i said something like bad back, been there done that to jane’s comment telling us about it.

Too much tail for his spine? *G*
Get him Chiro if it’s right for him . . . if money matters, we can all chip in . . .
I blew a back out in ‘86, it kilt me for months, till I tried Chiro and it IMMEDIATELY began to releive the pain and the muscle tension which CAUSES the pain (apart from disc issues).
Here’s wishing him the best, perhaps a quarter jar or two would help with the bills . . . . ;-)
In light of the smoking gun that traces full responsibility for torture to the president, and in view of the fact that Nancy Pelosi has threatened to fire John Conyers as chair of the HJC if he opens an impeachment inquiry, it is now past time to call for Nancy “Eleven Percent” Pelosi to resign her speakership. Her ineffectiveness in that position has been a national disgrace.
G’day, Persi!
wigwam, i musta missed that pelosi threat to conyers – when was that?

G’day Chikka, how’s life in Paradise?

Pretty decent! How’s your clime? Spring set in yet?
Steve-AR @ 26
Let’s call for Ried’s resignation too, while we’re at it. ;-)
The last time I told you spring had finally sprung, it started raining late in the day and kept it up for 4 days. So I’m not gonna say anything for certain but it nice and sunny out there today, probably low-mid 70s, my favourite weather.
persiflage @ 62
Sorry, didn’t mean to jinx ya! 8-(
CTuttle @ 64
I’t not you doing the jinxing, I think I did it to myself. I’m just being cautious now.
Gahk!
one of my prime sources for stress relief is on the injury list? dammit.
TRex, I used to drive long-haul semi. I bounced up and down in the bucket for hours on end and at one time carried a large belly. About 10 years ago I got up from a basic wooden chair at a friend’s place and found myself incapable of straightening up. I was seized up. My lower back felt like glass with a thousand tiny cracks in it and all ready to shatter. My sympathies.
I sure hope you get better quick cuz, as much as Jane and the others here at the lake are fine people, ya gotta know your evening submissions are golden.
Take care, dude. Mend and come back stronger and feistier than ever.
persiflage @ 65
But, Persi, aren’t you in Aus? Isn’t rain good for the Big Dry?
FunnyDiva
Funnydiva2002 @ 67
sorry to butt in
but yes yes yes
except when it’s so much the water is up to your eyeballs.
newtonusr @ 32
I just gotta advocate again, chiro.
You pull bones outta place, muscles cramp and swell, and down or up the spine all this goes (depending on the location of the strain).
It is the worst thing evah. A back pulled out, and pulling out from neck to butt, and rendering you motionless, and still in constant pain.
Till you reset the bones, and relieve the tension on the muscles, they won’t stop being swollen.
And as long as bones are outta place, muscles will swell and spasm. VIOLENTLY! Top to bottom along the spine.
But the chiro has to be up to 3 times a day, for a week or more (if yer curled up fetal), in my case . . . and then 2x and then daily, and then weekly, and then monthly.
In my case, I was able to drive myself to the chiro after the first two days . . and I was curled up and fetal and hardly able to walk for two months . . that’s how good them first treatments were . . . they allowed muscle swelling to go down FAST . . . heat, drugs and cold be gone!
3 Months to heal and feel good, a week or two to get back to an office job (I was a chef, it ended my career) depending on the ripping done on the muscles in the initial injury.
It’s not rocket science . . . bulging discs, now, are a dif story for Chiro, not sure when and where those come in to the possible healing process with chiro.
But, a back injury, that moves bones, and pulls muscles outta place, and causes the kinda pain where you fetal up on the floor for months at a time, and NO drugs will help, like I had . . .
Chiro helped it . . . it healed me. The drugs were useless, as was the heat and cold.
Pain like only I’ve heard friends describe it who HAD back pain, or kidney stones. Fetal position. No sleep, days on end.
Chiro.
If he needs money for chiro, cuz health plan don’t cover that (many plans don’t) then we need to get him $50 or so per treatment, over a period of time . . . I got a $20, and I’m broke as all shit, but I got a $20 to feed the kitty and help the TheroPod . . . .
Some one calls it, I’m in.
N now, I go to my corner . . . hopin T Hoss gets what he needs, to be well again . . .
Bless all.
may @ 68
Ah. Of course. There’s such a thing as too much, too soon.

I just dropped in to see…
Hope everyone’s OK! Hope Trex’s back gets better real soon.
Just back from my long 15-hour Tuesday, driving home along 45 miles of icy roads. Drove a woman whose car slid into a ditch to her house nearby. People forget how to winter drive over the summer – every year…
Well, Frontline is coming on in about ten minutes here, I shall bid ya’ll a fond adieu! Aloha Oe!!!
Funnydiva2002 @ 67
Yes I am and yes, you’re right, rain is always welcome. It’s just that I’ve had enough winter, I’m soo ready for spring. I can’t wait to walk barefoot instead of wearing socks and shoes, I’m sick of being cold at night. I’m just ready for winter to be over. We get very little rain in spring and summer here in Perth so we do lots of outdoor living, eat al fresco, go to outdoor cinemas. I’m looking forward to it.
wigwam @ 78
Bruce Fein.
I love Republicans!
norske, did you see that okk did hear from his daughter and she is fine?
Patrick, from another (former) musician, another good makeshift heating pad: a large sock filled with rice (uncooked), tied with a string, and heated in the microwave. Start with 30 seconds, let it sit a minute or two, and see if it feels right. It can be reheated any number of times. All winter, if the sock holds up.
I sometimes drape a Hot Sock around my neck on a cool evening, just because it feels so good.
Best to the temporarily downed dino.
persiflage @ 81
I don’t blame you! We’re just getting started on Winter here, and I’m already starting to whinge.
So, do you get some relief from the flies/bugs in the spring?

Interesting post from Roger Ailes (The Good One)
What about the 6th Amendment?
G’night Chikka, get a good night’s sleep, lord knows what fuckery may be afoot tomorrow.
Has Pelosi lost her mind? Is she being blackmailed? Is Reid? That would explain a lot. Defying a hold from someone in your own party is incredible, but ordering Conyers not to pursue impeachment is mind numbingly stupid.
I’m gobsmacked.
Margot @ 89
So how many of the original 10 do we have left now?

Nancy must be removed.
What are the articles of the House, Senate, or the Constitution that would enable or disallow this?
She must be removed.
It HAS to be our focus.
Period.
This is treason, of the likes Shooter and BoyKing are guilty of.
As constitutionalist lawyers have POSTED in here, if I’m right about this.
Time to play Constitution Or Bust.
Argghhhhh.
Hey, ET.
Welcome back. Good on you for the roadside assist.
I know what you mean about people forgetting how to drive. A rainy morning here snarls traffic for hours, and I’m in Seattle, for heaven’s sake! It’s not like we have THAT much time between storms to forget what it’s like.
Though I must admit, I do have a problem with those who get in more of an aggressive hurry in bad weather. 4WD ain’t worth nothin without friction, and friction’s sorta weak when there’s a quarter inch of water on the road…
FunnyDiva
newtonusr @ 83
He and Ron Paul are different breed of Republican. I’m sure on social and fiscal matters they are as crazy and repugnant as most Republicans. But on constitutional freedoms and foreign policy they seem quite rational. What a world!

Citizen Wigwam and the firepup Freedom Fighters:
If the “gossip” about Nancy One Note threatenin’ Conyers is correct, then there is enough out there now after the Pete Stark debacle to start a mutiny and include Stenny Hoyer on the plank they make Nancy walk.
She is simply not powerful enough to threaten the senior people that she has threatened in the last 6 months and get away with it(Conyers, the chair of ways and means, Pete Stark, Dave Obey)…even if Stenny Hoyer is her insurance policy against aleft wing coup.
Time ta kick some ass and I don’t care if we save the names.

The flies haven’t really started yet so I don’t know how bad they’ll be this year. It’s not too bad where I live, I don’t have to do the Aussie salute (waving hand back and forth in front of the face like a souped-up windshield wiper to stop the flies from landing on you) but they can be annoying. And mosquitos, our area is not too far above the water table so there are plenty of mosquito breeding places. Other than that and spiders, we’re not too buggy here. My favourite place in summer in lying on my hammock which is covered by a big mosquito net. It’s a great bug-free spot for a nap.

Yes, of course Pete Stark was truthful and not simply hyperbolic…even if he were over the line, Nancy One Note shoulda welcomed Boneless Bohner’s threat to keep bringin’ it up every day. Hard to imagine what the Dems are afraid of. I don’t for one second believe there’s blackmail going on. But I’m utterly clueless as to what else it might be.
Glenn makes the best case for the Democrats to step the fuck up I’ve seen so far. From Sunday.
g’nite kevin and tow
i still keep thinking that the dems, especially the dem leadership, was targeted in some of those illegal wiretaps and the leadership is kowtowing to the line (taking off tin foil hat even though it is a very fetching one)
I still think they are foolish if they think that Bush and Cheney won’t find a reason to suspend the 2008 election.
tj, that’s my other worry
Suzanne @ 116
if that’s true.
it would be interesting to see what would happen if the bluff was called en mass.
may @ 119
If Suzanne’s example is correct, it’s an unthinkable breach. And unless there is criminality (as opposed to blown strategy, which can be adjusted), what’s to lose by calling the bluff? What leverage could the Goopers have to gain by saying, “We tapped their phones…?”
Strap up, duke it out. The voters have already rewarded their bravado in ‘06.
I think they’re just cowardly. No stomach for this fight.
It would have to be en mass – one voice standing up would be trampled before it gets heard – like with mr stark.
was it Franklin who said
gentlemen,we must hang together or we will surely hang separately?
newtonusr @ 114
Recently, Ray Duray offered an interesting opinion about Pelosi http://www.firedoglake.com/200…..nt-1049028 and Glenn Greenwald offered a similar opinion about Diane Feinstein http://www.commondreams.org/ar…..9/23/4035/ . That opinion being roughly that they are protecting the incomes and country-club standings of their wealthy husbands.

wigwam @ 123
I recall Ray’s comment and I read Glenn. Just one problem with this theory, though not an insurmountable one:
If Nancy doesn’t make enough Democrats and Independents happy, the Dem majority will be short-lived. That’s bad for Paul, or, worse than if Goopers had the House. But I need to reexamine how Paul and his ilk did before ‘06.
heh
send the whole D party chehney masks and tell them to take their pick.
newtonusr @ 120
That ain’t tin-foil hat stuff. J. Edgar Hoover did it. Richard M. Nixon intended to do it. I’d conjecture that the intelligence sevices of foreign powers have done it. Information is power and I’m told that there are those in Washington who have an interest in power. ;-)
wigwam @ 127
Perhaps not. But the advantage to having the other teams playbook is that they don’t know you have it. Not much blackmail material there, unless there are crimes to be covered up. And there would have to be too many…
You may be right!
:-)
tis all about the accumulation and keeping of power
newtonusr @ 125
The more I see of our Democratic leadership, the more I believe that we have one party rule. I don’t know what to call that party, but it seems to have two wings, Democratic and Republican, that it controls to give the electorate the illusion of choice. But the same people control our foreign policy. The telco-immunity effort is fully bipartisan. The MCA wound up being bipartisan. Nothing of power significance is partisan anymore.
if the tinfoil hat theory is correct, then what?
satellite views of fires. Jeez.
From Monday
wigwam, i think that a lot of the reason why i never switched from repub to dem is that i have never really noticed much of a difference between the two parties. there used to be differences but now they appear to represent corporate america and to hell with the rest of us peon worker bees.
Suzanne @ 131
Whether or not it’s correct, Americans have to assume that the NSA is recording and perpetually archiving all phone calls and all email, and subjecting those recordings to electonic and human analysis. They are also archiving and datamining the records of who calls whom. They look for tree-shaped calling patterns that might indicate a terrorist cell for example. Other patterns might be typical of money-laundering schemes.
The question of exactly what dirt they have on say Pelosi could be quite interesting. Maybe she has hired an undocumented maid.
There’s a great passage in All the King’s Men by Robert Penn Warren (1948). The protagonist is ABD in history and does opposition reearch for the main character, Willie Stark, who is patterned on Huey Long. Willie wants some dirt on the judge:
And by God the NSA can find it if it can be found. Having the NSA at his disposal for opposition research must have been a dream come true for Karl.
I’ve got to get some sleep now. G’nite all.

Suzanne, you are in northern California I take it?

morning!
g’morning selise
Suzanne @ 141
A beautiful place.
I’m more or less at the southern end of the Appalachian Trail, where GA TN NC meet.
Is Blue Ridge part of the Smokies or have I mis-remembered my geography?
Howdy selise. You get any sleep?
and thanx for the House Judiciary links.
The hearing was instructive, and I”m about to look for any Mainstream coverage. For Thornburg (former Atty General) to say there was an obvious
political prosecution should be big news..
You can say (geologically) that the Cohutta (just 1 mile or so behind me) and Rich Mountains are the southern end of the Smokies range.
Washington post has no coverage of the hearing.
And besides Talkingpointsmemo, no coverage at all.
Good morning or in the case of Suzanne, should it be sweet dreams? It looks like she had a busy night moderating.
And the confusion is that the Blue Ridge refers to the front of the Appalachians, from Virginia to Georgia. The southern end is not as defined.
And this little burg, my county seat, is called Blue Ridge.
Suzanne -
i knew you were nr santa cruz, but not in boulder creek. as i recall, that’s a beautiful area (i lived in capitola for a couple of years in the early ’80s).

you are most welcome, i’m glad you got to listen to the hjc hearing yesterday. sadly, i missed most of it… and my recording crapped out at about the 2 hr mark. damn.

selise @ 150
I only managed 3 hours of the hearing. I’m just shocked that there is no national coverage.
This story ties Karl Rove to the fired US Attys. And I repeat, for G.H.W. Bush’s Attorney General to say the Wecht prosecution is visibly partisan, and the statistician showing that 80% of the prosecutions against officials were Democrats is damning.
MR. Bill @ 148
typical.
no c-span coverage, no video archive… unless they send a reporter, who’s to know it even happened. i am so looking forward to when all the hearing vids are archived.
in the mean time, that’s why i try to make audio recordings at least some of the time. when comey testified before the sjc, i had hundreds of downloads – as far as i know that was the only complete audio available of the hearing (there were some good video clips from politics.tv – but not the entire hearing). never know when there’s going to be a blockbuster hearing… but even for the non-blockbuster, there are many important hearings (possibly like yesterday’s hjc) that just go down the memory hole.
Suzanne @ 152
Good luck with the showing today. Because my house is on the market I planted pansies even though we are experiencing a drought. After destroying the ones in my front garden bed the squirrels are now busy eating the ones in pots on my front porch. It’s actually quite comical to watch them.
MR. Bill @ 153
emptywheel said it ended about 1:30, so you probably got almost all of it.
JPL @ 155
isn’t that unusual squirrel behavior? the ones here never eat plants – just nuts. i wonder if they’re not going after your pansies as a source of moisture? if so, you might save the plants by putting out a shallow drinking bowl for the squirrels.
selise @ 155
NPR did have a piece up, but that was the only place I heard it.
speaking of archives, raw story reported that your Congressional Library had about 17% lost items.apparently not stolen, just misplaced.it seems staffing levels have fallen through the floor.no direct firings but the gentle art of attrition by not replacing normal losses by retirement etc.
JPL, I know all about those brazen hussy squirrels – i found coffee grounds around my plants helps keep the critters away.
may @ 158
THe Library of Congress?
MR. Bill @ 160
yes.
Suzanne @ 159
Suzanne, I’ve found milorganite (yup, treated sewage sludge, its sterilized) chases deer and squirrels.
MR. Bill @ 160
i’ve started saving my used coffee grounds and have had pretty good success with it. Of course, the nuts are very plentiful now, they are dropping with a rat-a-tat-tat every few minutes or so. I have to say, the skunks seem to have moved on since I started the coffee grinds front and back.
Suzanne @ 164
One has the picture of the skunks demanding espresso.
MR. Bill @ 164
wake up and smell thr coffee?
Mr. Bill, do you have fewer acorns this year in Blue Ridge? Normally because of all my oaks the acorns create a carpet on the ground but not this year.
may @ 166
Yo
well, this is norcal, so they want it decaf
May, I looked at the Library of Congress story.
It’s no great surprise to me. I served on the board of the Southern Highland Handicraft Guild.
We have a small Library and archive, and my committee found that materials in the inventory went missing a lot. Among them Doris Ullman photos, and some Albers prints from the Black Mountain School.
And rare books? Don’t get me started.
Suzanne, thanks for the coffe grind idea. The little critters seem to enjoy the red pepper I put around the plants.
JPL @ 167
Morning JPL. It’s really spotty. Some places are carpeted with acorns, but mostly not. A buddy who hunts says the acorn crop is low, and that will hurt wildlife.
MR. Bill @ 150
Just like all the towns and counties with the same names that are nowhere near each other. Forsyth comes to mind. Also, in Athens we have one srteet that is called Atlanta Highway (Love Shack), Broad Street, and Lexington Highway!
I’ve heard that starsucks sells their grinds for plant fertilizer and my ferns out front really seem to like the grinds – it could be just there are so many acorns everything else is being left alone.
raven @ 173
HEy Raven. Well, Atlanta used to change the street names at Ponce De Leon Av.: Briarcliff becomes Moreland, Boulevard becomes Monroe, ’cause you couldn’t have black folks and white folks on the same street….
And then there is the maddening Georgia habit of town/county disjunction: Forsyth GA is not in Forsyth Co., White GA is not in White County , etc.
Morning Raven. I just found this site and thought that I would share, http://www.guardian.co.uk/america. If they can acquire a following maybe MSM will develop a spine.
MR. Bill @ 170
yers
this is something i oft times wonder about.
all those looted items
from archeological digs, stolen from great houses,(Britain is in the middle of a rash of burglaries from heritage sites)not to mention the Iraqi treasures.
where do they go?
MR. Bill -
If you were on the board of the SHHG, what’s your medium?
Do you know another former (current?) boarder, female, fiber artist, Dillsboro, well-known maiden name? Have known her for years and actually took weaving lessons from her many moons ago.
MR. Bill @ 175
That’s what I’m talkin bout!
Waccamaw @ 178
Ya’ll don;t know Meta Thompson down in Charlotte do you?
raven @ 180
You mean Susan Levier (spelling?), and I’ve met Meta.
I’m sorta out of the Guild Politics , as they had, more or less, what I regard as a rightwing coup, firing the Director, about 3 years back.
And my medium is fiber. Here’s a link to a couple of pieces in the State of Ga collection: http://www.gpb.org/stateart/ar…..xander.htm
I’d like to get back to my art career, and had some success, but need to get my kids raised before I indulge myself.
Good morning, pups. Today in the NYT it’s MoDo and Friedman. MoDo says that Dick Cheney seems to enjoy giving the impression that he is loony enough to pull off an attack on Iran before leaving office — even if he has to do it alone. Mr. Friedman says he continues to believe that everyone has us where they want us in Iraq: holding up the floor for Iraqi politicians to do their endless tribal dance.

The coffee and tea are ready, and the biscuits are just out of the oven. We may get some rain today. Here’s hoping…
1,636 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND..
Firepup Freedom Fighters:
Does anyone know when Condi Ricecakes is gunna get down with Henry W#axman this AM? Is it on C-Span3?
KEEP THE FAITH, THERE’S GOTTA BE A PONY HERE SOMEWHERE…!!
MR. Bill @ 182
Thanks for the link. Your work is very impressive.
MR. Bill @ 179
I like Pierced Heart – very nice. Quite an honor to be part of the State collection.
MR. Bill @ 181
Wow! I would have never known. Are you saying that Meta was part of a right wing coup or just that you met her as part of the Guild? I lived with her and her hubby and kids one summer and we have been good friends ever since. Joey is a Biology Prof who stays in trouble for his radical tree hugging stances.
JPL @ 185
Thanx. I did a major piece for Turner Field/Atlanta Braves in 2000 (12′x37′), and they had an image online but it seems to have gone now.
MR. Bill @ 182
Very nice.
raven @ 187
No, I had met Meta at some fiber gathering or other. I’ve sort of gone into construction guy mode, and let the art thing rest. (It depresses me sometimes, but you gotta do what you gotta do…)
I’m not going to go into the political stuff except to say that a certain Guild President pretty much trashed the Guild rules to get rid of its Director and Curator. And my take on it is likely to be idiosyncratic, and less than disinterested.
Hey Marion. I gotta go be construction guy.
Love and peace and keep FIGHTING!
Suzanne @ 186
There is actually a bit of video with “Smelter Hill”. And they still have the slide image upside down..
Y’all be good…
JPL @ 176
For me that link doesn’t work. Can anyone else get there?
NorskeFlamethrower @ 184
waxman is thursday (oversight committee). here’s condi’s hearing schedule:
both the house foreign affairs and house oversight committees have streaming from their websites. today’s hearing is scheduled to be covered by c-span3
norske, do you know about the weekly congressional hearing list i’ve been doing for firepups? it’s got links to the committee websites for streaming, and i try to make audio recordings of some of the interesting hearings so i can post the mp3s.
here’s the main link.
here’s the link for this week.
i’m always happy to answer questions, but just want to make sure you also have the links.
MR. Bill and raven -
raven – Am not acquainted with Meta; what sort of stuff does she do?
Yup, Leveille. Wasn’t sure I should use full name w/o permission. If you’ve not been to her shop in Dillsboro at Riverwood, it’s very nice…as is she. Miss Lucy produced another wonderful artisan. Had a fun meeting with her not long ago sharing a stash of weaving drafts I found in family documents; traced them back to my great grand-mother in SE NC. I have what surely has to be her heart pine loom.
Neat off-loom work! Have you ever done any natural dyeing or spinning?
wow… so my talent here at the lake. i am in awe.
Marion, Guardian has started a site for American news. I’ll see if I can find another link.
Marion, http://www.Guardian.co.uk/America. Try this one without the http, sorry.
Marion, That didn’t work either, you can access it from the normal Guardian page and then go to the America link. It’s definitely worth the hassle.
selise -
Wow! They’ve got rice two days running…guess bushco think they need to let her out of the cage long enough to try to tamp down the bw brouhaha. May have to go take the car for a ride so I can catch a bit on C-3 sat radio. ;-) Dial-up so it’s either that or pray I can find the rerun on 1 or 2.
JPL @ 198
JPL, there’s an extra period/full stop at the end of that URL. I got to the site by just deleting it.
FunnyDiva
http://www.guardian.co.uk/america
Waccamaw @ 200
c-span now has a really nice library of streaming videos for what they cover.
Funny Diva, Thanks, what did you think of it?
Good morning. I usually read late late night post/comments when everyone is gone. I occasionally comment during daytime postings. Anyway, I just wanted to compliment Suzanne on what a fine job she does.
Good Morning!
JPL @ 196
Thanks. I’ve found that just about anything I’ve read from the Guardian has been spot on. And well written into the bargain.
:::blushing::: thanks pma
JPL @ 198
I had to tinker a bit (lower case “a” in America, and lose the period at the end) but now I’ve gotten there. Thanks!
JPL @ 203
Haven’t read through yet, but I really like the concept: have journalists cover US news from an outside perspective.
FunnyDiva
Good morning!
g’morning eg, how’s your slice of the east coast this morning?
Good morning, egregious.
What’s the latest from our SD pups?
eg, last i heard, all sd pups accounted for. okk heard from his daughter, loohoo had a phone call with demi who is evacuated with no internet, blub and rw were on the thread earlier and ok (trying to remember if that is all and if i got all the names right)
Oh, spit!
joeblow is now calling for an apology from the “clown” Lt. Gov of Cal for his “anti-war” comments wrt bush’s trip tomorrow.
Dog dammit – this sh*t with demanding *everything* a Dem says be apologized for (yeah, I know…lousy grammar) has gone way beyond the pale!
OldCoastie, too
thanks, elliott, yes oc is ok too. i knew i was forgetting someone.
Waccamaw @ 212
hojo can kiss my california ass – my lt governor was speaking for me
Suzanne! What a treat to have you here with us early morning folk.
East coast cool crisp fall weather. Time to get out favorite sweaters and sheepskin boots.
Hey JPL, Waccamaw, Elliott. How’s everybody doing.
eg, it is either here chatting with ya’ll or mopping and waxing the floors. I have a showing this morning I’ve been getting ready for. i am currently in a turtleneck sweater over sweatpants and its ia chilly 48 here. supposed to get into the high 80’s here today and low 90’s inland. love the crisp chilly nights with the smell of fall in the air.
1,636 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND..
Citizen Waccamaw and the Firepup Freedom Fighters:
No more appolgies for ANYthin’ anymore…what the fuck is goin’ on here??!! The more folks oppose the war (now upwards a 70%) the more the beltway gasbags call for political blood for citicism …up is down black is white, now I know how the folks in Germany felt in 1933-34. It was easier ta believe the unbelievable than ta accept the horror of the truth.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, WE’RE GUNNA BE INTA SOME SERIOUS ASSKICKIN’ SOON!!
Chatting here versus mopping and waxing:
Well? what’s it gonna be? :)
egregious @ 220
Pretty good. Suzanne did a great job as moderator for the late nite crew. The tension caused by an incompetent administration and uncontrollable wildfires were evident in the posts.
actually, eg, i’ve been doing both with the help of the Mod Squad. Have I ever mentioned that The Lurking Mod can be quite the nag – I know nags, having nagged away two husbands myself.
On more war, I’m just reading this at the Agonist
Iran War: Is Bush Crazy Like A Fox? Or Rabid?
MR. Bill @ 182
Egregious, Just in case you missed the early morning discussion, check out Mr. Bill’s work.
‘morning. Glad all the CA pups are safe. Any news on their homes?
egregious @ 223
Gee, I’m struggling with that one myself! ;)
.
Suzanne, may you meet your buyer today!
demi said loohoo still doesn’t know if her place is ok or not – she was evacuated from the fallbrook area which has been hit hard. not sure about homes for the others.
the more i think about it, i think all the other sd pups homes are ok
Hi, eg -
Prayin’ for rain in SE NC. :-(
For anyone who may not have seen it, Digby has a great post on thugs and their hissy fits:
http://commonsense.ourfuture.org/art_hissy_fit
GAK! blowhard is gonna run that clip on the Lt. Gov every 15 minutes; worse still, Mica sorta agreed with him earlier vs. smacking him up the head with a verbal 2X4.
Norske – AMEN! Instead, the dims getting air time just keep askin’ for another pair of knee pads.
Bush issued statement about all the countries of the world joining together to promote democracy in post-Castro Cuba. “Promote Democracy” is now code for war.
Ok Pups, we start work a bit late, so I’ve got maybe 15 minutes. Washington post did pick up the Judiciary Hearing on selective prosecution.
It’s not too shabby. I guess they couldn’t ignore former Bush1 Atty. General Thornburg’s assessment of the Wecht Case: http://www.washingtonpost.com/…..v=hcmodule
Waccamaw @ 232
I haven’t heard it yet. What did he say?
anyone else listening to washington journal?
i’m about sick with the anti-palestinian bigotry.
selise @ 236
ME TOO!
Good morning selise. Is it worse than usual? Who’s the speaker?
JPL, thank you in fact i was not familiar with MR. Bill’s art, it’s beautiful!
Thanks JPL. I wish I had some online images of the really impressive stuff. I could email, he said…or email me at alexander@ellijay.com
selise @ 236
Rep. Mike Pence (R Indiana) is part of the problem, being on the Middle East subcommittee.
And egregious…
Lower back pain is really tough. I suffer it every few years and it takes a month or two to slowly let go. Spasms seem to cause pressure on nerves and tissues become inflamed and that cause nerve involvement. Pain won’t let up until everything relaxes and the swelling goes down.
This could be from mis alignment of verteibra, or damaged discs where the nerves exit the spine.
I do Aleve and use a hydrocolator which you boil in a pot and place over a cold towel so it gradually heats up and moist hotness penetrates the region. It does release pain and I suppose the increased blood flow might help.
I’ve done chiros, but the recovery time for me is always about the same. A week of lots of pain and little mobility and then slow but steady improvement until 4-5 weeks and I am back to normal.
These events can arise from nothing it seems. Get out of bed or bend over and BANG you’re there. ICK.
Take care TREX.
MR. Bill, your work is beautiful.
solai -
“Promote Democracy” is now code for war.
Truth, that.
But, hey…..Cuba’s a small country, close to home; this one will be a “cakewalk”. /s
Can’t remember the wording exactly so hesitate to repeat but, to my ear, quite mild; turn to msnbc..blowhard’ll play it again for you in the next few minutes. ;-( After he did it the first time, I just came back to the Lake to avoid listening. And now, he’s got joe klein coming on; ohhhhh, goody – jk says mccain is making a “come-back”.
Dang elliot you guys give me hope.
I like Ellison.
The Palestinians are the ni**ers of the ME. Boy have they gotten screwed, despite the suicide bombers… talk about punishing innocents… these people live in a prison camp.
[Edited by mod]
egregious @ 238
yes. much worse (and it’s normally bad)
rep. mike pence (indiana).
god gave israel to the jews and it’s america’s role to support israel.
there’s actually very little concern for jews shown… it’s all about an israel fetish.
MR. Bill @ 239
]
or flikr so we could all see? would love to see more of your beautiful work.
If anyone wants to see more, see the email addy at 239. I’ll send you pics..selise @ 246
I really hope the Israeli right realizes that they are in bed politically with people who want to see rivers of blood in Israel for the second coming to occur. I’m surrounded by ignorant folk who cannot distinguish between the Likud and the Biblical Children of Israel due to the right wing preachers..
Surely reclaiming the Temple mount isn’t worth that much.
Who can we get to chase Pence out of office next year? He’s gotta go.
selise @ 247
I’ve got problem with file size (way too large) to upload some images. and never tried flikr. And now i really gotta go. Love and peace.
Now the Dem side up
David Scott D-GA, also on the Middle East subcommittee
Scarecrow’s morning wisdom in the new thread:
Dodd Leads; Obama and Clinton Follow, Sort Of
If I could do anything, I would erase the idea of religion and all history of it from human consciousness.
We’d lose some art and architecture, but we’d get on better.
I hope you are all better TRex, although having had those back spasms, I’d bet you are going to be troubled by this for some time. I needed a bar mounted by the potty just to be able to lower myself into a seated position, legs and back just couldn’t handle it for weeks. All I did was bend over to pick up something on the floor and WHAMMO! My legs buckled, like yours.
That’s what you get for lugging that cute giant tail around! :)
Feel better soon,
