I guess the right wing blogs were just a wee bit embarrassed about their poor fundraising efforts during the last election cycle -- that whole "right roots" thing was kind of humiliating. But just like the Little Engine that Could, they've decided to play a serious game of catch-up and now have some real cool tools for online fundraising.
From October 8:
Last night just after Midnight, we flipped the switches and dropped the firewall opening up Slatecard. Slatecard is a utility to support and enhance Republican activism.
The goal of Slatecard was always to be much more than just a top-down, ‘online shopping cart’ which would likely only be used the last few months of a campaign.
Instead, the Slatecard utility embraces effective Web 2.0 technologies and collaborative principles to provide a robust directory of candidate information which will not only be used by a financial donor, but by anyone looking for more information about a candidate’s online activity.
Slatecard will help bridge the chasm between modern online activists and Republican candidates by not only encouraging candidates to be more active online, but also increase support by placing a premium on the issues which cause supporters to give to a candidate.
Lordy me, I am here to tell you, I was verily quaking in my Uggs when I heard that. I'd always worried that if those boys gave off picking their faces and playing paintball, they could really put us Sex Crazed Vegetarian Pacifists to shame, what with all that luster they gain from master organizer John Hinderaker being on the board, not to mention the residual glory of a White House freeper weep & pee. All the star-maker machinery of Hollywood just cannot compete with the come-hither allure of that.
So how goes the fundraising juggernaut? Let's look at the big winners, the fundraising totals for Slatecard's "hot candidates":
| Rudy Giuliani | 4 contributors | Amt. Raised | $530 |
| Mitt Romney | 5 contributors | Amt. Raised | $375 |
| Tom Tancredo | 1 contributors | Amt. Raised | $250 |
| Jim Ogonowski | 5 contributors | Amt. Raised | $171 |
You can just feel the waves of fear cresting over Act Blue, threatening to come down on the heads of the liberal blogosphere:
| Blue America '08 | 2,169 supporters | $154,665 |
| Blue Majority | 2,489 supporters | $149,373 |
Now far be it from me to taunt the poor lads about their...er...inadequate performance. I do feel some blogger-to-blogger loyalty. Hail fellow well met and all that.
No doubt, however, there are those who will.
Tisk-tisk.

Jane, you are friggin awesome.
Fascists don’t need contributions from the blogs. They get all they need from their corporate masters. Sure we can laugh at their pathetic online efforts but can the left blogosphere keep up with corporate donations? $300,000 in progressive contributions isn’t bad but in the grand scheme of things it’s chump change.
Funny!! I had to do a double take on the Repub figures, because my mind played the old “they always win everything” card, so I read the first one as $530,000…and then I looked again…
Bwahahahahahaaa
Fascists don’t need contributions from the blogs. They get all they need from their corporate masters.
Unlike the dems huh?

At how many points do these circles overlap?
What a great idea. I hope they invest millions in enough server capacity to handle the onslaught. (What with the Web 2.0 and all.)

True Dat
Republicans can’t and don’t raise money from people at the grassroots level because they don’t represent people. They represent big corporations and big donors. Anything Republicans do to get the regular people to vote for them is done through trickery by dog whistle.
This report makes me think of the inflated book sales figures from so- called Conservative authors. If booger pickers are not willing to donate to their candidates online, they are certainly not going to be buying books from Amazon. B-sides, they aren’t very good at reading anyway.
Who does that with another dude’s tie, anyway?

I wonder if the Righty blogs by driving the majority of Americans perception of the GOP to the right of the Klan is actually hurting the GOP?
I wonder if by playing to the GOP blogger base the Presidential candidates have alienated themselves from the normal GOP voters.
Karl Rove should know better, GOP code words should be used to incite the base. Regular GOPers should never learn what the “Secret Masters” really stand for.
A poll asking everybody if they have read righty blogs and what did you think of them could prove this.
That’s what they’re all a-bout.
Ish @ 39
70 fuckin 7
They have teh most awesome fundraising skillz.
Mebbe they should give away a free trailer hitch ball with every donation.

I made a trailer hitch ball/firehouse joke about Malkin and got slapped!
A running tally on the act blue page of how we are doing vs the righty blogs could spur competion, contrabutions, or over confidence.
Maybe a running comparision of total Democrat vs GOP fundraising would be competitive or just humourous.
GOPers running scared and not donating could depress GOP voting numbers.
OT - from dave lindorff on senator dodd’s FISA immunity hold and filibuster threat:
In so doing, he gave the lie to the fraud that has been perpetrated by Pelosi and Reid that they and the Democrats are “powerless” to stop the war unless they have “60 votes” in the Senate.
-snip-
Dodd, however, is showing that they can prevent bad legislation by being the ones doing the filibustering, and that they then only need 41 votes–something they clearly could muster if the party’s leadership were behind it.
So Dodd is testing out this theory on the stinking betrayal of a bill the Democrats have come up with for the NSA. If he succeeds in blocking that bill, he will finally have to put his money where his mouth is, and anti-war bonifides by placing a similar hold on Bush’s new request for $46 billion more for the Iraq War.
That in turn would put the Democrats to the test. If, after running a campaign last fall promising they would end Bush’s war, and after failing miserably to do so for the past 10 months in power in Congress, they did not support a filibuster against further funding, they would stand exposed as the worst kind of charlatans and fraudsters.
Dodd, meanwhile, just two and a half months ahead of the start of the primary season, has a golden chance to vault himself to the head of the Democratic pack by making a genuine, concrete effort to end the war.
It wouldn’t matter if he failed. If Sen. Dodd were to put a hold on funding for the war, and were then to stand in the well of the Senate and filibuster any effort to pass such a bill, forcing his Democratic colleagues to expose themselves finally as being either for ending the war or continuing it, he would be an instant star of the anti-war movement. The 80-90 percent of Democrats who are opposed to the war would stampede to his support. Obama and Clinton, who are in the Senate with Dodd, would be forced to decide whether they wanted to continue to play to the party’s right wing and its corporate funders, or whether they would cast their lot with the peace wing.
i needed something more to chear me up… and this worked for me. hope you-all find it hopeful too.

Any word on whether or not Bush will be bringing his guitar to CA? His pickin’ and grinnin’ helped the people in New Orleans, after all.
never OT, Rudy. A flipflop that does Mitt one better by electing to become more Massachusettsian than before:
From the Boston Globe: Giuliani, Mr. Yankee, is rooting for the Red Sox in series
BOSTON — Rudy Giuliani, a big Yankee fan, said he will be backing the Boston Red Sox over the Colorado Rockies when the World Series begins tomorrow.
“I’m rooting for the Red Sox,” Giuliani said while wearing a red tie during a press conference in Boston’s financial district. “I am an American League fan.”
The former New York mayor said he wasn’t pandering to the local crowd either.”
Endless opportunities for mirth here.
Since Red Sox is a nation, I guess that makes Giuliani an illegal alien.
More seriously, if he thinks it’s going to get him seats in the owner’s box, he should think again. Last Presidential candidate invited there for game 6 was Sen. Dodd.

Plus they are comparing middle of the road Hilary to Rudy and the polls puts her in a close race with Rudy.
I do believe that other Dem candidates will do better against Rudy.
The Center has been discredited the DLC can force Hilary down our throats but then they will get all the blame if she loses, and consideing her polls against Rudy thats not impossible. Hilary can only win a big victory against a complete righty lunatic.

Sensitivity training, Blackwater style: “Now, Arab cultures tend to have different standards for personal space than we do. So you’ll be shooting people at a much closer range than you’re accustomed to. Don’t worry, you’ll get used to it.”
Per Jeralyn, Obama’s on board with the Dodd filibuster:
Aloha, Ya’ll! Here’s an update to the Faux Spew Text poll after the Repug Debate:
“In a post-debate interview, Paul had pointed out to Hannity that his performance in polls such as Fox’s might have something to do with what he calls a softening tone from leading Republican contenders, who he says aren’t “nearly as militant” as they were some months ago. Paul is the only GOP candidate calling for the immediate withdrawal of US troops from Iraq.
“So you think you’ve Ron Paulized them?” asked Hannity, referring to his own trademarked phrase, “Hannitized,” which he uses to describe a successful political conversion.
“Well, they have to to listen to these polls, don’t they?” said Paul of his primary rivals.
But Hannity laughed off the unscientific text poll. “You’ve got all your supporters,” Hannity said, making a brushing-away motion with his hand.
“You mean your own poll isn’t any good?” asked Paul.
“No,” said Hannity. “It’s just a lot of fun.”
Bwhahaha… the Repugs are still in serious denial…

Hey, can I bust in here with an OT flashback to the topic of Dodd’s guest spot this morning? A new citizen journalist, Beth Wellington, has put together a very nice summary of the FISA legislation fiasco. I found out about it through NewsTrust, which liked it enough to feature it in today’s news roundup, under the heading, The New Furor over FISA “Reform”. You can go there and write your own review, too.
I kinda wrote a little about it myself over on dailyKos, mainly to give a tip o’the hat to Sen. Dodd for showing true leadership on the FISA issue. I hope his passion for the Constitution starts a groundswell. Its about time. Its about our country. Its about our future.

Dear Madame Speaker
It is with the greatest respect that I feel the need to remind you that you work for me. You seem to have forgotten that fact. I repeat, you work for me.
I worked to elect a Democratic House so that you would be speaker. I volunteered, walked petitions and made phone calls. I signed up new voters to help elect a Democratic majority to the house. I helped make you the Speaker, you work for me. I am your employer.
You say that impeachment is off the table and I scream with rage. How many laws does the President have to break for impeachment to be back on the table?
You say that impeachment is off the table - how many laws does the Vice-President have to break to put it back on the table?
Bill Clinton was impeached, rightfully so, for perjury. He never committed treason, he never violated international law, he never broke US Treaties, he never committed War Crimes under the Geneva Conventions. Bush and Cheney have committed these acts, but Impeachment is off the table. I demand, Madame Speaker, that it be put on the table.
Respectfully,

Just saw a clip of a waterbomber working a fire in a CA valley/canyon(?), and it looks to me like a Canadian design. Are they bringing planes from Canada to help out? Or more accurately: is Canada sending planes south to help? I thought I had heard that the U.S. had not bought any of those because they were ‘too expensive’, but I could very well be wrong.

Grrrrr.
OT- but LS, did you catch my apology to you last eve? I misread, etc.
Another OT, relating to Constitutionalism:
John Nichols was on Bill Moyers’ Journal a month or so ago arguing that we are already IN a Constitutional crisis, and impeachment was meant as the tool to resolve it. Leaving aside for the moment Pelosi’s Diktat, there is agreement from a different quarter that we are indeed in a Constitutional crisis, but with a rather different take on the situation:
The article ends with these words:
This is interesting, in the light of Bush & Cheney’s assault on the Constitution. Most Democrats don’t even seem to know they’re in a fight. They seem to think that they have more important things to do. Only Chris Dodd and Russ Feingold seem to recognize what is at stake, along with organizations like the ACLU and CREW. I hope there are more out there. I would like to see a review by Christy, or Jeralyn, about these issues, and to whom we should be looking for leadership if not Dodd & Feingold.

Otherwise, would have been hard to hear both Dodd and the moderator. But I liked that microphone in front of Dodd (it WAS a microphone and not a fountain pen, wasn’t it?); stylish, and made the speaker look good. And what that is apropos of I have no idea!

Wisdom, thy name is Dad.
For OKK (and any others having trouble contacting loved ones in South CA):
Ask around and see if you can get in contact with a ham radio operator in your area. They might be able to “talk” to someone in the SD/LA area who could possibly relay a message. A lot of times when power/phone lines are down, hams in the affected area are the only ones able to relay messages as they may have set up their rig to run off battery power.
You might get lucky and contact someone who lives a few blocks from your daughter and odds are they are more than willing to deliver a message and send a reply.
Stay safe CA pups.

Yes I did Sweetie!! I was just so emotionally charged too, no problem at all. Disasters push my trauma button all too quickly, and I’m always working on it.

here’s one view of Pelosi

Hoping to see her website develop a little more; Cindy blogs there quite often, but there doesn’t seem to be an actual campaign yet. I’m needing to make a decision soon, I guess, about what to do about supporting the current incumbent in her re-election bid, or Cindy.
Pet Stark waterboarded into apologizing by Pearls Pelosi…that’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it.
Stockholm Syndrome is too alive and well in D.C.
Isn’t it interesting how many Repervs [perverting our Constitution and our civil liberties] luuuuuuvvvssss them some Swift-boating and Fair Gaming but they turn into whiny-ass titty babies when the shoe’s on the other tappin’ foot. Thought they were such macho tough guys. Words apparently are more than they can bear…
Wil @ 168
They threatened him. I agree that he should have fought back and stood his ground, because what he said was true; at least he got in the dig about being “insigificant”…his action was totally significant. Pelosi&co are the real culprits here.
raven @ 132
I just finished listening to him from this morning– just makes you feel warm all over, that guy.

Teddy - don’t suppose any other candidate besides Cindy opposing Nancy Pelosi have emerged from her district? I greatly admire Cindy and still do not think she has any chance to even pressure Pelosi much less pull off an upset.
LS @ 176
It was the Boner that introduced the censure resolution, how is that a threat?
Dana Perino Press briefing:
Q Dana, back on the wildfires for a moment. Senator Barbara Boxer, this morning in a hearing, suggested that they’re limited in the amount of National Guard equipment available to them in California because of commitments in Iraq. Specifically she said, “Right now we are down 50 percent in terms of our National Guard equipment because they’re all in Iraq. The equipment — half of the equipment, so we really will need help.” Do you have a response to that?
MS. PERINO:So obviously this nation — we are a nation at war and when you are a nation at war you have to use assets that are available to you. And sometimes those come from the National
Guard.
Q But does it raise questions, though, about having these National Guard pieces of equipment elsewhere, outside of the state of California, where it was obviously intended to be used?
MS. PERINO: When we are a nation at war there are priorities that you have to make sure that the National Guard units that are serving — that live in California, but are serving right now in Iraq, you want to make sure that they have the equipment that they need in order to protect themselves. And so you have to weigh those priorities. But I think that there are ways that we can make sure that California has what it needs

LOS ANGELES (AFP) - More than half a million people were ordered to evacuate across California on Tuesday as wildfires raged for a third day
http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20.....FDEnAXIr0F
Q Well, when you send Secretary Chertoff out or Director Paulison or you take a minute to show us 280,000 bottles of water, is that designed to make sure folks know that the administration won’t repeat its own mistakes?
MS. PERINO: I would say that it’s not designed to do anything for me to show you that; it’s to alert people to what the federal government is doing in order to help the people of southern California.
Over 500,000 evacuees and FEMA sends 280,000 bottles of water…..
newspaperbrat @ 179
Cindy is running as an independent, not a Democrat, a Green, or a GOP. I wonder if she can build an anti-war coalition here in EssEff: Send Nancy A Message. Her campaign should be built around that single issue: Tell Nancy Outta Iraq.
No Dem will oppose Nancy in the primary, and I’m not sure the Greens or the GOP will run anyone in the general. Cindy could accumulate a considerable protest vote if she gets money to get her message out.
Given Pelosi’s stellar performance just this week, I wonder if the Sheehan campaign might just take off.
And each person will need at least five liters each day.
Fucking FEMA - hope this absurd failure gets the “heat” it deserves.
Oh - and the evacuations - now almost. 350,000 homes. With an average of 2.7 residents/home.
One-third of San Diego County.
Heck of a job, Bushies.

I’ve seen this photo before and it amuses me for its sheer gayness. Nothing wrong with being gay. But these two… oh boy, it’ll be decades of being in the closet, with wives and children, before they realize what is plainly obvious. Especially the fat frat boy on the right.
Heh heh heh . . . them ReThugs would have to PAY for that good of a spanky in most cases.
Nice work, Mz. Hamsher!!!

Hey Larue, in case you didn’t notice, one of your comments from earlier today was removed from the thread.
We never, ever, publish home addresses of anyone…friend or foe. It makes no difference that the information can be found elsewhere in the blogosphere. We don’t allow it directly in the comments or by linking to others who do. We simply do not do it here.
And before you delete that website from your favorites list, you might want to know your link was to a completely different person who just happens to have the same first name.
selise @ 56
I suddenly find myself smiling, humming, and skipping thru mud puddles!!
That was some good info, thanks SO much for sharing . . . man I like that analysis . . can we ask Dodd to do to War Funding as he is doing to FISA? Or are they tied to same piece of legislation? Thought they was dif . .
LS @ 100
Umm . . . I don’t think they was swatting that feather . . . stuffing it, maybe . . quill end first to get thru the diaper . . . of course.
OR SO I’VE HEARD!

Hmm . . catch me off list in my email addy if you have time, I’d like to make this right and right now I’m not sure of what’s wrong.
Thanks.
larue @ 191
You submitted a comment that included a specific residential address and included a link to a website that profiled its residents.
You also alluded to a person profiled at that website and mistakenly suggested he was someone well known to the progressive blogosphere.
They may have the same first name, but they are completely different people.
Seems pretty simple to me.
TeddySanFran @ 113
That’s good, but Obama is still a tool for Clinton. If it comes to it, the second Edwards leaves the race Obama will also drop out and hand his endorsement to Clinton. He’s only in the race to split the more Progressive vote, so Edwards can’t win. Obama has absolutely NO chance of winning.
The race is between Clinton and Edwards. Simple as that.
John Edwards for President — He isn’t Hillary.
Who are the two goopers in that photo?

Did Michael Hayden draw this?
The “terrorist” actually looks more like a Mexican Lucha Libre Wrestler!
