But just like the Little Engine that Could, they’ve decided to play a serious game of catch-up and now have some real cool tools for online fundraising.

From October 8:

Last night just after Midnight, we flipped the switches and dropped the firewall opening up Slatecard. Slatecard is a utility to support and enhance Republican activism.

The goal of Slatecard was always to be much more than just a top-down, ‘online shopping cart’ which would likely only be used the last few months of a campaign.

Instead, the Slatecard utility embraces effective Web 2.0 technologies and collaborative principles to provide a robust directory of candidate information which will not only be used by a financial donor, but by anyone looking for more information about a candidate’s online activity.

Slatecard will help bridge the chasm between modern online activists and Republican candidates by not only encouraging candidates to be more active online, but also increase support by placing a premium on the issues which cause supporters to give to a candidate.

Lordy me, I am here to tell you, I was verily quaking in my Uggs when I heard that. I’d always worried that if those boys gave off picking their faces and playing paintball, they could really put us Sex Crazed Vegetarian Pacifists to shame, what with all that luster they gain from master organizer John Hinderaker being on the board, not to mention the residual glory of a White House freeper weep & pee. All the star-maker machinery of Hollywood just cannot compete with the come-hither allure of that.

So how goes the fundraising juggernaut? Let’s look at the big winners, the fundraising totals for Slatecard’s “hot candidates“:

Rudy Giuliani 4 contributors Amt. Raised $530
Mitt Romney 5 contributors Amt. Raised $375
Tom Tancredo 1 contributors Amt. Raised $250
Jim Ogonowski 5 contributors Amt. Raised $171

You can just feel the waves of fear cresting over Act Blue, threatening to come down on the heads of the liberal blogosphere:

Blue America ‘08 2,169 supporters $154,665
Blue Majority 2,489 supporters $149,373

Now far be it from me to taunt the poor lads about their…er…inadequate performance. I do feel some blogger-to-blogger loyalty. Hail fellow well met and all that.

No doubt, however, there are those who will.

Tisk-tisk.
