If you've got some skill at editing, or if you simply like tinkering with iMovie and enjoy making endless videos of your pets, we're looking for Beta testers for an FDL project and we need your help.
Email me at FDLadmin2 AT gmail DOT com if you're interested in kicking the tires for us.
And cute though they are, I promise this has nothing to do with my dogs.

Jane!
Dang. Missed by microseconds!!!
Oh, well. I don’t know anything about video editing. I have enough trouble with wordz.
:-)
Bob in HI
Hey, Jane!
What kind of editing? I’m a good proofreader/copy editor, but somehow I don’t think that’s what you mean.
FunnyDiva
Not me, but I love the videos.
The first four are all at 4:19. You guys are wicked fast.
i’ve got great production art Mac skills but alas, have not yet learned any film editing programs. (kicks self for not starting to study more last year)
As usual, there is no moss growing on Jane Hamsher.
TeddySanFran @ 8
Quick n’ the dead.
Cute dog. Cute Eames chair.
newdealfarmgrrrlll @ 9
That could actually be very useful.
Tithonia @ 12
Small world.
I used to work for the company that made the Eames chairs
Gotta run
L8r
I have no skills whatsoever, and am thus eliminated.
Can I hang around anyway?
jayt @ 15
You should definitely stick around. I like the rise you get outta Joe Wilson.
Do you guys see what is going on? Nancy Pelosi has equated us with the Religious Right. That is why she pretty much ignores us. (Example: Making Stark apologize.)
Typical Beltway “thinking”: The Right has its fringe-group base. We have ours. Best to just ignore them both. At least the GOP acts like it cares about its base.
TeddySanFran @ 16
and then I think he took Busted’s name, too
Jane Hamsher @ 13
I’d be glad to help in any way i can. And i’ve had experience with “driving” beta programs to see if i could break them, with programmers sitting there. It was a blast.
jayt @ 15
So when is Ms. Wilson moving to Indy?
OT - ignore if inappropriate, but I think this is a glimmer of good news:
“He acknowledged that a number of policy advocates — some of whom were appointed by President George W. Bush to positions at the Defense and Energy departments — have seriously pondered the merits of using nuclear weapons.
“But none of them have had the responsibility or the accountability” to launch such weapons, Cartwright said. “I don’t want to put myself in the shoes of a president, but who is not going to take [as] incredibly serious the use of a nuclear weapon?”
For those who are accountable, he added, “it is not just a little bit [of] a weapon of mass destruction. It is a weapon of mass destruction. It is going to change not just that country’s future, but all of our futures when we start using these things, big or little.“

Elliott @ 18
What’d I do this time?
john in sacramento @ 14
I just got an Eames setee. I’m loving it.
Bustednuckles @ 22
too interested in his wife ;)
Elliott @ 24
Shoot me now.
;)
Funnydiva2002 @ 6
Same here, FunnyDiva. Do you like Scrabble?
newdealfarmgrrrlll @ 19
I’ve beta tested mucho stuff for Microsoft for the last 15 years, but what’s a Mac? *g*
Shell @ 17
That’s what is so frustrating, though. The GOP doesn’t ignore its fringe: all their Prez candidates were pandering at the Values Voters’ summit this past weekend. Do you think Hillary will show up at YearlyKos if she’s the nominee next year? I don’t.
Sorry, OT, but Valerie’s on now at Air America…! 8-)
newdealfarmgrrrlll @ 19
Nothin more fun than a full-on systems test with the coders back at yer side after only two hours of sleep.
Sorry for OT, but has anyone seen/heard from Loo Hoo? Is she ok? Her house? All the best to her and all in SoCal…
{{{LooHoo}}}
Mad Dogs @ 27
it wasn’t mac nor yet ms testing, it was graphics software on a Sparc box (unix)
Mad Dogs @ 27
Doesn’t have to be Mac experience, could be anything.
foulis @ 20
I think that that was pretty effectively nixed by *Mr* Wilson - I*’ll take solace in the absurd, self-delusional thought that “I coulda been a contender”.!
TeddySanFran @ 30
yeehaw! grab a triple espresso an yer talking serious fun.
RonD @ 31
It was reported last nite, that she sought refuge with friends, but, they have no internet access…
RonD @ 31
We heard via a commenter at Late Nite last nite that LooHoo was with friends. She’s safe; no word on her house.
Get my email?
I’m good at clicking but I don’t know how to edit.
Q: Dana, back on the wildfires for a moment. Senator Barbara Boxer, this morning in a hearing, suggested that they’re limited in the amount of National Guard equipment available to them in California because of commitments in Iraq. Specifically she said, “Right now we are down 50 percent in terms of our National Guard equipment because they’re all in Iraq. The equipment — half of the equipment, so we really will need help.” Do you have a response to that?
MS. PERINO: I haven’t heard that specifically. I know that that has been a concern. I think in another natural disaster that I’m — I’m sorry?
Q In Kansas, Greensburg.
MS. PERINO: In Kansas. So obviously this nation — we are a nation at war and when you are a nation at war you have to use assets that are available to you. And sometimes those come from the National Guard.
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news.....023-8.html
The National Guard and equipment not here but over there.
RomeCalifornia is burning andNeroBush’s Folly has left us unprotected and unprepared for homeland emergencies. BUT, FEMA is sending 280,000 bottles of water for 500,000 evacuees. Chertoff must’ve been home sick the day they taught addition and subtraction.k, Jane, I will email you. Self-taught in editing videos I’ve ripped from YouTube. But, I am a PC person. ripped from YouTube as .flv, converted to windows movie maker (.wmv?).
Jane:
Howie’s friend Lucas has some skillz, I’m pretty sure.
And he worked for me on a studio installation job I was doing the other week as an intern. Very smart young man.
What’s iMovie? Ooops, I guess that let’s me out.
Jane Hamsher @ 33
Jane, I’d throw my hat in the ring but for the problem that iMovie is a Mac-based app and all my systems are Windows-based.
Teddy –
Did you reach your daughter? (I can’t read ALL the comments in all the articles!)
I hope so!
“A commenter” here.
That was me.
She’s staying with a friend in Oceanside.
I spoke to her this morning and at that time, she didn’t know whether her house made it or not. (When I talked to her yesterday, the fire was 3 blocks away.)
Things are just batshit crazy down there. Roads closed. Nutso communication.
I told her I’d call her again tomorrow am, but maybe I’ll call her tonight during late nite so you guys can say hi.
Speakerphone, me as loohoo live blogger. That could work.
Valley Girl @ 41
Wmv is the windows movie format but movie maker is a program.
Valley Girl @ 41
Hey VG,
that Windows Media Viewer=wmv.
For the Macophiles, we use Flip4Mac to watch these files ;>)
Everythingseemssoneat @ 39
I’m good at clicking but I don’t know how to edit.
I’d love to know how to post a link, while giving it my own title.
My browser (Firefox) doesn’t seem to like the whole concept.
Shell @ 45
I don’t have a daughter; I think you refer to OKKiddo’s. Not sure we’ve heard back from him.
Hiya Steve.
Demi @ 46
That sounds great, “commenter!” *g*
I think people would really like being in touch; maybe she can let us know what we can do. Sounds like the Bushies are falling down on the job again, if their puny water shipment is any indication.
Demi @ 46
That would be kewl, Demi! Let her know that our thoughts and prayers are with her! 8-)
…and all SoCal Firepups…
TeddySanFran @ 50
Not yet. Nor from Hugh, about ‘his’, either! ; )
Teddy —
I AM SORRY! That is, of course, correct. Don’t know why I confused you.
Old Coastie, if you are still here, how are you getting your fire updates? Where are you that you can see the tankers? Hope you are safe as the Santiago fire is really taking off.
Shell @ 55
That’s okay.
SteveAudio @ 42
And, do you not also have some SKILLZ?
jayt @ 49
I’d love to know how to post a link, while giving it my own title.
My browser (Firefox) doesn’t seem to like the whole concept.
It works for me in firefox. Open 2 broswers, navigate to a page you want to post, copy the url. Go to the FDL page and either post or quote a comment. Click the link button above in the editor window. When you get the link window copy the url in. Next you get a name window, type in what you want to call it. Preview and then post.
Bustednuckles @ 51
Hey, Busted!
RockPaperScizzors @ 40
I’m sure every governor in the US is ticked off that the group that they’d always had for natural disasters, etc. is now…gone. I recall several years ago, the City of Watertown, NY (which is used to big snow, believe me)got 7 feet of snow in one week (one of those lake effect things that stalled over Lake Ontario). As I recall the story from friends up there - the tv stations showed the snow removal equipment parked at Fort Drum - the local communities depended on the National Guard to do the big snow removals - but all the operators (10th Mountain? I think so)were in Iraq. It was so bad that the NYS Police had to close the major interstate connecting PA with the Canadian border going through that area. People could not move out of their homes for three weeks.
States depend on having the National Guard - when Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld/Wolfowitz et al. decided to make war in Iraq, they just did not think about the consequences of calling up the National Guard.
Let’s see now - who do we call NOW? Blackwater???
Valley Girl @ 58
Some, perhaps. :)
raven @ 47
raven and Steve- ahhh…. I forgot to say that once into Movie Maker, I edited the “movies” heavily, sometimes including a different sound track. I learned a lot of tricks.
DiFi’s emails are like a broken record: every time I email her, she writes back with the same stupid letter from Adm. McConnell, with a little note at the top saying she opposes domestic warrantless wiretapping.
She won’t commit in writing about amnesty for telecoms, or even mention it.
Has anyone heard from the other San Diego firepups, like rwcole and blub?
Is this deja vu’?
California is a catastrophic disaster and the football stadium is being transformed into guest house for fire

Lagunatic @ 65
I haven’t seen anything this afternoon
I haven’t seen RW for a while now, dammit.
Busted!!!
How’s your daughter??
(I am, of course joking…it started earlier in the day.)
Margot @ 26
Yes, but only for fun…I don’t have good strategy or anything.
Big Boggle with the Challenge Cube, on the other hand…
(((wordsters!)))
FunnyDiva
Valley Girl @ 63
You know, a lot of movies are made here in the Valley, places like Northridge, Chatsworth, they could probably use a good editor, along with some cheesy music soundtracks…
SteveAudio, last time I looked Photobucket, my freebie of choice did not have option to upload videos. So you know of a site that does (not YouTube)?
Demi @ 69
Yeah, whoever that person was was a jerk.
BTW, both of my girls are A.O.K.
On Tweetie, the lt gov of Ca really ripped Bush. Said he wasnt welcome at the fire, he’d rather have the boys back from Iraq to help. Suggested that he not come out there for another photo-op as with Katrina.
Didn’t mince words
RockPaperScizzors @ 66
More than 500,000 people have been evacuated from San Diego. Over 10,000 stayed at QualComm last night. The Red Cross has plenty of supplies and Ahnold ordered the National Guard off of border patrol duty to ensure the safety of those staying overnight at QualComm.
SteveAudio @ 71
Srsly? That might just be a dream job.
Reports are that the 10,000 at the stadium have everything they need…hmmmm…what about the other 490,000 people that have evacuated…perhaps trapped in traffic…
Jane,
Editing words I can do…even backwards.
I’ve given your admin email addy to my 20 year old son….the student who makes films. He’s your guy. (and, I’ll even remind him to write you.:)
snowbird42 @ 74
SWEET! Any links?
Isn’t Skeletor in charge of FEMA now?
This is going to be a clusterfuck of biblical proportions.

KEEP THE FAITH AND TAKE CARE OF EACH OTHER!!
Some of those pictures look like Independence Day.
Bustednuckles @ 73
Good going dad. Any pix on FB? You can see mine (KB) the first of my friends on FB. Oops I’m at work and I didn’t put my f’ing f up. You can look some other time.
Valley Girl @ 76
I was sort of ‘funnin’ you, I ws talking about companies like Vivid Video, etc., who make almost all the porn in production today, most of it here in the valley.
Now, if you got good with Final Cut, which is Apple’s pro editing program, it’s making serious inroads into Avid’s past monopoly. MGM switched over to Final Cut a few years ago, and never looked back.
LS @ 77 - Fortunately, many people have family and friends with whom they can stay. The unfortunate part is that some of those areas are now being evacuated. The San Diego fires are likely to end up being the worst in California history (damage to property and size).
NorskeFlamethrower @ 81
No word Norske.
Bustednuckles @ 80
Paulson is FEMA head…. Chertoff; Homeland Security…FEMA falls under DHS.
TeddySanFran @ 64
If it is any comfort she does exactly the same thangy when I email her a well intentioned constituent email. Irritating as hell.
Paulson huh?
Must’ve missed that crony appointment.
“newspaperbrat @ 88
I just dump her letters, to save my blood pressure!

newspaperbrat @ 88
She always does that - thanks you for your concern about [barely related topic]. That’s why I support [flawed piece of legislation that is not related to why I wrote in the first place]…
Hmm, I’ve been doing a lot of HDTV recording, editing and converting to H.264 lately. Then again, I hate YouTube and Flash video. But I’m pushing content for Apple TV and the iPhone/iPod touch these days. So any knowledge I have I’d happily share.
Gotta run. My best to everyone.
Apple has free classes at the store in SoHo in NYC all day everyday 10 - 5… all sorts of neat stuff.
I wandered in there to use a PC to check email and FDL and found myself sitting through a fabulous presentation on creating podcasts using Garage Band… I think it was called.
But they do all sorts of demos. If you’re in NYC and have the time pop in and you can get a first class education on all sorts of neat stuff you can do with a PC… Apple, I assume.
If I can find an empty day I am going down for some free learning!
Christy is up late tonight.

SteveAudio @ 84
Steve, yeah, I got it.
Just sent you email with two of my best- one is cricket porn. ;)
Lagunatic @ 85
Jeez. They are reporting this as a “Super Katrina” catastrophe category…MSNBC KO…way bigger…
OH YOU GOTTA SHARE!
In sharp contrast to the experience after Hurricane Katrina in 2005, when evacuees at the stadium in New Orleans endured days without food or working toilets, the logistics at Qualcomm appeared well in hand.
The two disasters were very different, said George Biagi, deputy press secretary to San Diego Mayor Gerald Robert Sanders.
We have the luxury of being able to count on our neighbors,” he said in a telephone interview, adding that more than 1,500 people have offered their services at the stadium.
“The folks in New Orleans didn’t have that luxury, because everybody was impacted.”,,,We have more than enough food,” he said.
The 96 bathrooms – 50 for women, 44 for men, 2 for either sex — were in working order, he said (for more than 12,000 people and Outside, thousands more filled about half the spaces in the 18,000-vehicle, 122-acre parking lot.).
http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/10/.....index.html
George Biagi must be suffering from lack of oxygen to the brain due to smoke inhalation. I want to see him stand in the lines to the washrooms.
Fresh thread for everyone.
Now, pardon me while I contemplate a use for a video of cricket porn… *whistles at VG*
Bush’s second Katrina… Smokin CA.
What an asshole that man is.
Where’s Brownie when you need him? Stallions?
Bustednuckles @ 100
I’d be happy to. But, apart from using YouTube to upload videos (and I don’t want to get into YouTube) I have no idea where to post to make a link that I can give you, or anyone.
LOL,
I bet it’s funny though.
Oh well.
Valley Girl @ 104
Hey VG, if you want to upload stuff for others to download, you can try http://www.mediafire.com/
It is not like YouTube where you can actually see the vids online. Mediafire is just a hosting place.
FWIW & YMMV
Busted- email me. And, don’t use “porn” in the title or the message. And DO use FDL in the title, so I don’t accidentally bounce it- I will email you with video attached.
Mad Dogs @ 106
Thanks much! I will check it out. I don’t need to see online, just somewhere I can upload and then get linky.
GOT IT VG.
You are such a sweetie, have I told you that lately?
Bustednuckles @ 109
Same to you, busted.
Valley Girl @ 104
Hey VG,
Have you tried..
Putfile.com
I’d check the FAQs but I believe cricket porn is allowable. *g*
This sounds cool. I’d love to help FDL -
RG
I’ve been playing around with Movie Maker recently. This video editing stuff is more addictive than I realized. Here’s some of my handiwork…
http://youtube.com/profile?use.....elixleiter
I’d love to have a new toy to play with, so I volunteer.
Felix
Been working with Final Cut for a doc and some other stuff for about a year, I sent some links to recent examples in an email.
Here’s something I did years ago on WMM, before shelling out for a Mac. I didn’t send it with the email, but what the hell:
http://citizen.cf.huffingtonpost.com/
The video editing was just grabs of old style Getty footage in google search for video (try typing in b/w and a search term, i.e. = b/w train). There’s all kinds of good old footage there, though I think none of it makes the song any better…
snowbird42 @ 74
The Lt. Governor is John Garamendi. It was on today’s Hardball with Chris Matthews.
“CHRIS MATTHEWS: Is the federal government doing what it has to do here?
JOHN GARAMENDI: Well, they’re doing a lot and we appreciate what they have done thus far. Resources are coming in. The U.S. Forest Service, 70 units from Arizona and Nevada and all that’s good. I got some doubt about the value of President Bush coming out here . . .
MATTHEWS: Do you think it’s public relations rather than action?
GARAMENDI: Of course it’s public relations. The action’s taking place by the hard-working firefighters, the men and women and the police that are out there on the line and the community that’s pulling together to support each other, that’s where the action is taking place. I know — okay, President Bush comes out, we’ll be polite. But frankly, that’s not the solution. How about sending our National Guard back from Iraq? So that we have those people available here to help us?
MATTHEWS: Do you think the president’s arrival will distract from the efforts to fight the fire?
GARAMENDI: Absolutely. No doubt about it. The president goes some place, you’ve got a huge entourage, you’ve got Secret Service all over the place. And all the chaos that comes with whatever the president arrives — wherever the president happens to arrive. But, listen, what we really need are those firefighters, we need the equipment. We need frankly — we need our troops back from Iraq. We’ll get on here, whether he comes or not that’s not really the issue. I just hope that if he does come, he brings more than he brought to New Orleans.”
Bravo Garamendi…no photo ops by ANY politicians. The fires don’t “need” any attention to be drawn to them, so Bush’s presence merely distracts. At the very least, he should work to bring other States NG/firefighters and their equipment into the region to assist. Maybe order the military to use C-5A’s to bring equipment in.
Damn, the way this fire is spreading they may soon be needing fireboats off the coast!
