Democrat Bob Kerrey, former Nebraska Senator and current President of the New School in New York City, has re-defined how Democratic Presidential candidates might accumulate what he cleverly calls “courage points:”
In short, Imus adds a lot to the American political debate. He made a nontrivial, nonfatal mistake — one for which he apologized. He and his listenership should not be indefinitely ostracized as a result.
But there’s another reason national politicians would be making a mistake if they boycott Imus. If they keep away from the show all the way through next year, it could do real political damage, if not in votes lost, at least in courage points.
You see, according to Bob Kerrey’s NYDailyNews Op-Ed today, Democratic Presidential candidates lost “courage points” when they refused to appear on Fixed News’ debate:
Democratic candidates already made a similar mistake when, goaded by groups like MoveOn.org to dissociate themselves from Fox News, they pulled the plug on a party debate to be aired on the network in September. They had a chance to reach millions of people — but they blinked, and they blew it.
First of all — nice reinforcement of GOP talking points, Bob Kerrey! Let CaptCT at MyLeftNutmeg explain to Bob Kerrey what’s wrong with his thinking:
Boycotting Fake News was brilliant because it revealed Fake News for what it is: a right-wing publicity channel and not a news organization. So Kerrey misses the point about Fake News — appearing on the show legitimizes it, as well as legitimizes all the vitriol it heaps on Democrats.
The same can be said for the Imus Show. Kerrey knows it too. Kerrey even says, “who wants to be the first to … legitimize” Imus? Well, quite simply they shouldn’t.
Similarly, Imus isn’t running a legitimate interview program, just like Faux Noise isn’t a legitimate news network. CaptCT?
Don Imus is a bully and a self-promoter. His loyalties are to the people who suck up to him. Those who appear on the show, make donations to his “ranch,” and praise his wit and inciteful comments are treated well. They get their candidacies endorsed or their books promoted.
Those who criticize Imus or refuse to appear on his show — mostly as a result of his blatantly racist and sexist comments — get skewered by Imus, day after day. It’s Imus’s own brand of extortion. Play nice or I’ll do all in my power to destroy you.
And Bob Kerrey, who’s eager to make nice (“I myself have appeared on Imus before and would welcome the chance to go on the show again.”) would like us to believe that:
The man simply made a mistake.
Bob Kerrey should ask Gwen Ifill if Imus made a mistake:
“Isn’t The Times wonderful,” Mr. Nelson quoted Mr. Imus as saying on the radio. “It lets the cleaning lady cover the White House.”
I was taken aback but not outraged. I’d certainly been called worse and indeed jumped at the chance to use the old insult to explain to my NBC bosses why I did not want to appear on the Imus show.
I haven’t talked about this much. I’m a big girl. I have a platform. I have a voice. I’ve been working in journalism long enough that there is little danger that a radio D.J.’s juvenile slap will define or scar me. Yesterday, he began telling people he never actually called me a cleaning lady. Whatever. This is not about me.
Colbert King at the WaPo reminded us when the controversy erupted that it wasn’t a mistake:
And it’s not just race and sex. This week the Anti-Defamation League, in a news release, hailed Imus’s suspension as “a long time in coming.” The ADL’s national director, Abraham H. Foxman, said that his group has logged dozens of complaints about Imus’s on-air remarks and has written twice to Imus but that it never received any response from him or his program team.
Foxman said the ADL wrote to Imus in December after Imus and his co-hosts on a Nov. 30 program referred to the “Jewish management at whoever we work for, CBS,” later described by Imus — according to Foxman — as “money-grubbing bastards.”
In the release, Foxman said that in a December 2004 broadcast, “Mr. Imus referred to publishers of a new book called ‘The Christmas Thief’ as ‘thieving Jews.’ Later on the same program, he attempted to apologize for that remark by saying (of thieving Jews), ‘I apologize, I realize that’s redundant.’ “
ha, ha
Bob Kerrey reasons that Democratic Presidential candidates shouldn’t ostracize Imus and his audience for Imus’ mistake. But it’s pretty clear whose path Bob Kerrey is really blazing, as CaptCT concludes:
Kerrey strongly endorsed Lieberman in 2006. I wouldn’t be surprised if Kerrey is making these comments to pave the way for politicians like Joe to go back on the air with Imus.
Note to Democratic Presidential candidates: Bob Kerrey’s advice is not meant for you and you shouldn’t take it. It’s an obvious attempt to smooth the runway for his BFF Joe Lieberman to make a triumphal return to the “somewhat chastened” Imus airwaves when the new programming launches on WABC in December.
Do not fall for this.
It is not okay to legitimize Imus’ defamation of these wonderful strong Rutgers women (shown in the video above) by appearing on his new wee programme.
Do not fall for this.

DO NOT FALL FOR THIS!! Indeed.
Hi Teddy. thank you.
evening, teddy! i let downstairs know, now to read the post
Teddy!!!
Hi Teddy!
Evening, ladies!
Bob Kerrey is the last “Democrat” our Presidential candidates should be taking advice from, but since he’s newly chatted about as a Senate candidate in Nebraska, he may have some newly acquired gravitas. I thought CaptCT did a great job illuminating his possible motivation — clearing the deck for his pal RGJoe Lieberman.
Bob Kerrey’ mouth is too big, he reminds me of Newt Gingrich. Why his words are even covered, I don’t know.
courage points this, fool (universal one finger salute)
May I respectfully ask the mods, why I’m being moderated with every comment??? 8-(
[Mod Note; it’s no secret what the previous poster thinks of interrupting her threads with exuberant sports chatter. A little respect for the wishes of the front pager goes a long way.]
I know nothing of Vivian Stringer’s political leanings, but oh, can she speak.
“Pivot and attack” comes to mind.
I’d love to put her at a microphone up against Bob Kerrey and let the two of them go at it.
DO NOT FALL FOR THIS. Which means, of course, that they will. The Keystone Kops (aka dem leadership) can be counted on to shoot themselves in the foot at every opportunity.
A mistake? A mistake???!!
What was that, Bob? Being a racist asshole? Because the comment about the basketball team was merely the latest contemptible excretion from that man.
Suzanne @ 8
Bonne soir, Ma Cheri! pls. look at my 9!!!
Teddy! This is FDL at it’s best. :o)
First, two words:
Fuckin’ A! (Okay, one word and a letter…:o) )
Kerrey cleverly overlooks one thing that would be happening with his “plan”; any well known, influential democrat who appeared with Imus would be helping to do rehab on his shithouse-crazy, rightwing-racist ass.
That ought to be enough to keep them off.
Arrrrghhhh….
Kerrey’s already had the warning shot fired across his bow by the GOP/Media Complex.
He was one of the Senators — Inouye was another, and Cleland was another — who went after Bush’s Vietnam war record (or rather the fudged record thereof). The words were barely out of his mouth when his role in a My-Lai-like situation in Vietnam was made public.
That shut him up for awhile, and ever since then, when he’s opened his mouth, it’s to either defend Republicans or to bash the Democratic wing of the Democratic Party.
Is there a Democratic Presidential candidate likely to fall for this?
what a racist idiot.
why is he going back on the radio?
As a Medal of Honor recipient, Kerrey knows something about courage.” His MoH citation reads, in part,
Somehow, “courage” is not the word that leaps to mind when I think about someone appearing on Imus’ new show. It’s not even in the same ballpark.
Like the rest of the GOP wing of the Democratic party, Bob “Dino” Kerrey can kiss my rosy sphincter.
For that matter, so can Imus.
On second thought, strike Imus from that — I might end up catching something he picked up from Bernard “White Power” McGuirk.
I agree with Bob. The Democrats should abandon the women, Blacks, Jews, Latinos and gays and go after the white evangelical vote.
Then they should call themselves Republicans.
Kerrey, what a smoking dildo.

Hi Gene Gaudette!
SnarKassandra @ 15
Hiya Cassie, because he thinks listeners are like Reid & Pelosi … more likely to cave than not …
((( TSF )))
My new name for Reid & the Dems … Cavemen !!! *g*
Imus has been an obnoxious jerk for decades, with occasional bursts of racist and sexist remarks. There was no ONE mistake, and any Dem candidate who goes on his show is asking for a quick end to his or her campaign.
No one with self respect will go on his show.
This is particularly contemptible, as Bob Kerrey is speaking of his “own” party’s candidates:
It’s right outta Assistant Principal Orally’s playbook.
P.S. Chimpy may finally have a real Reagan moment.
A stock market crash like 1987.
-GSD
Evening all. Good post Teddy. Can we just buy wholesale lots of ball gags for these people? I mean Kerry, Pelosi, and Reid all playing to the Rethugs? Jumpin’ and Jitterin’ Jeebus on a splintered cross.
GSD @ 18
GSD is in da house !
Suzanne @ 7
Is there a swear gesture jar?
Hi, suz!
My new name for Reid & the Dems … Cavemen !!! *g*
I like it, Petrocelli. Barney and Wilma!!!
biggerbox @ 10
Great handle, and welcome to Sunday Late Nite!
hey teddy, nope, hand and arm gestures come fine free – excellent post tonight my dear
TeddySanFran @ 26
Right here.
CTuttle @ 9
Duly noted! Siun had left at that juncture, and, I was chided for my lack of exuberance last nite…!!! *g*
[RBG Note; just cuz the parents have left the house does not give the kids carte blanche, And FWIW, I don’t remember it being for a lack of exuberance.]
SnarKassandra @ 15
Because the screaming monkeys of the right like racist idiots (a little Coulter and Limbaugh anyone?) and they control the media.
DrDick @ 31
OK. will people listen?
Peterr @ 16
Brain dead comes to mid.
Hey, if Hillary can heart Murdoch and Matt Drudge, Bob Kerry should be able to love him some Imus
D = R = Fascist piece of shit.
RUN GREEN AL! RUN GREEN!!
DrDick @ 31
But, but the media is liberal. Fake News told me so, it must be true.
imus was ‘big’ and we took his racist ass down and off the air – us dirty fucking hippies need to have our noses rubbed in it and bringing him back is one way to do it
and to send a message to mmkkk, limpballs and others, if the dfh’s take ya down, we will bring ya back up
Loo Hoo. @ 13
Here’s hoping not, but:
snip
Storms are comin’ to KC right now, so it’s time for me to shut down for the evening. G’nite, all!
DrDick @ 24
Please make sure you’re going after the correct one.
Peterr @ 41
Nite, Reverend, Good Luck!!!
Suzanne @ 29
Personally, I think Kerrey has earned himself the Italianate forearm for this one.
Bob Kerrey just wants us to STFU and take Rupert and friends money… As someone said earlier, Hillary has won the Republican nomination.
I absolutely do not want my D party convention handled by FOX next summer.. Please please..not exclusively at the very least.
SnarKassandra @ 32
Probably. There is a mindbogglingly large audience for teh stupid. Just take a look at MTV or VH1 or any of the “reality” shows dominating so much of TV.
So what do we have to give thanks for recently from Bob Kerrey: the 911 Ommission Report. With a litle help from P. Zelikow, mister smoke in their eyes.
Bob, How many courage points do you give for attending a KKK rally?
What an idiot!
DrDick @ 42
Yeah, but i will watch crap while I am doing homework and listen to real actual smart radio if i want the news.
Peterr @ 32
Wow, did you see that total at the top? $147k.
That means BlueAmerica has raised more than $50k in four weeks; we started the big end-of-quarter push right here on September 23, at $95,918.
Good night, peterr – wishing yo a lighting-free night.
SnarKassandra @ 45
True, but you are not a Republican.
Bob Kerrey the D answer for Arlen Specter.
OLD MAN IMUS is a crashing bore so is deidre
end of story folks
Eureka Springs @ 41
Could you just imagine?!? Bad enough there is very little coverage of the conventions anymore. Why is that? Are the airwaves not required to serve the public as regards things like conventions? Heaven knows there’s no money in it; so I guess, like news divisions that have morphed into infotainment it’s not really necessary to cover a candidate being selected.
dakine01 @ 41
Thanks for that. It’s why I used his first and last name throughout the post as well.
DrDick @ 41
with elbow? dayam, that’s harsh but that’s what the porker needs
***
hey kirk, go check out the SCVP comment at the end of the bob harris thread…
TeddySanFran @ 52
I knew which one it was, just didn’t know how to spell his name.
SnarKassandra @ 17
i for one would like to see his racist, mysoginistic ass permanently in the unemployment line.
Petro and gang.
How are ya?

kirk murphy @ 50
Wait — that was last nite in SF!
Oh, you meant lightning! Hi Kirk!
Bob Kerrey….Dead from the neck up.
And, yeah…I have the opportunity I will tell him so. Then he can run to the ‘Mommy’ Party and get Miss Nancy to scold me…..
Petrocelli @ 22
Ha! Petro, you rawk.
Night and best, Peterr.
It must be fun to live in San Francisco…
newdealfarmgrrrlll @ 55
But republicans don’t like getting govt handouts!!!
Suzanne @ 30
Making Greek gesture….. thumb runs up nose flipping it out from tip of nose….. means the same as all the other type of gestures…
Elmore had seen me do that for years…. had kind of clue but not sure what it meant and I did not share…. boy was I teased after a couple of days of driving on Crete
;)
The other day (Oct. 8 to be exact). Lee Rodgers and Melanie Morgan were bragging about how there were smarter than Imus because THEY didn’t apologize for their violent comments directed toward, Democrats, liberals, journalists and Muslims. They were talking about how Media Matters failed to get them fired so obviously they did the right thing and stood by their violent comments and called me a liar, a thief and a coward.
They think that because they brough out the big legal guns and shut down a little blogger that they “won” especially since there were no consequences to them. (Even though the station lost 28 advertisers and about 1/2 million in revenue.)
Who is the person hiring Imus back? Farid Suleman, the Chairman of Citadel broadcasting who is the new owner of ABC Radio/KSFO.
I don’t think Citadel has an idea just how much Disney protected the people at KSFO. The fact that Disney had several lawyers and crisis PR people who swooped in to save them from themselves in the media is what protected their ass from being fired, that and they were still in the middle of a $2.7 billion dollar deal that they wanted to close to sell ABC Radio to Citadel.
You want to see what consolidation of the media means? You can do what ever you want because you have the juice backing you to knock down your critics.
The thing that is different about Imus and Rodgers is that Rodgers makes less but is more powerful since he didn’t have to apologize.
IIRC, The last D convention coverage handled by FOX they relied on fun house lens and psychedelic colored gels… Every single candidate looked mutilated. I say never again please. Fool me once..comes to mind.
Breaking News: Cheney calls Iran an enemy of peace !
Late Breaking News: Ahmedinajad dies from Iron(y) overdose !
EPU Mauimom @ 73
Yes she is beautiful. And she looks great in blue jeans with that cool belt.
It was as if Couric can’t distinguish between a diversion and the ACTUAL problem …You were outed by the Bush White House and although no court made the case, probably by Dick Cheney. While we don’t know if Bush was involved we do know he can’t be taken at his word; to fire anyone involved in the leak.
Much of the story narrative (as opposed to the Val and Couric Q&A) was pretty damning to BushCo as it should be but the Q&A was a dance, not a coherent narrative, not a clear message, and as aggressive in challenging Val and Joe’s judgement as Libby and Cheney’s judgment and actions.
Couric turns to Val and says: Some say you are too partisan. “Some say?”… “Too partisan???” F*ck “some say”. Couric is a gossip-mongering tool. Those same “some says” seem to have as much credibility with Couric as any source of researched and footnoted information she could have at her fingertips. How much did CBS spend researching and producing this story? What journalistic value did it have? Do you think Couric or the 60 minutes staff read Wheeler’s Anatomy of Deceit? You can bet she and they did not.
Couric is not just a pretty face but she’s never been a journalist. And CBS seems to be wrapping itself around a pole in order to appear fair and balanced thereby not reporting on known facts but leaving it up to the viewer to decide. 60 minutes rest in peace.
Nonetheless, Val comes off well. She’s an intelligent and highly competent individual who comes off as a sympathetic character. Thought Couric’s question about whether the Wilsons should have made a better judgment about the op-ed – IE not publish it – kind of knee caps Val. It’s a STUPID, poorly considered question because it implies Plame and Wilson were playing with fire and deserved what happened to them. Val handles it well but defensively nonetheless. She says, What? Joe should not have written the op-ed that pointed out one of the claims for war was untrue? Why does Couric challenge Val on her husband’s op-ed and not make it ABUNDENTLY CLEAR that the head of the CIA under pressure from Dick Cheney recanted the 16 words? THAT THE PRESIDENT’S CLAIM WAS UNTRUE and therefore Joe was RIGHT, apart from the question of whether as a citizen Joe is entitled to speak his mind… right or wrong without punitive retribution inflicted upon a family member from the Office of the Vice President?
Val does not show her temper but Joe does and rightly so. “Did anyone go after Karl Rove’s wife or Dick Cheney’s wife? No, as it should be.”
Why should it be up to Plame to answer the question “Was Bush involved?” Why is more time given to the question of whether the Vanity Fair article was in poor judgment than whether Plame feels justice was done? Which was never asked.
And why was Libby’s clemency treated so lightly? They did not point out that commuting his sentence rather than pardoning him left him with his 5th amendment protection against testifying TRUTHFULLY in a civil suit.
SnarKassandra @ 61
No, no, no. You are all confused here. They don’t like other people getting government handouts. They are lined up 20 deep to get theirs. I mean look at good old Neil Bush, Mr. Prince, and all the other hogs at the trough.
Oh, yeah, with Hillary Clinton leading the way, they’ll all troop over to Imus to kiss his ring and get his blessing.
Seriously, don’t be surprised when the current hero of the day, Chris Dodd, is a guest on Imus. I believe he was on Imus a lot before, as was John Kerry and a lot of others. The fact that Imus regularly called Hillary the Devil notwithstanding, I’m sure many of the others will be going back due to their relationship with him.
I wonder if he’ll be bringing back Bernard McGurk, the really, really obnoxious one. Or some of his other disgustingly vulgar friends. Is Imus going to be on TV too, so we can watch him take pills and eat during his show?
Imus does do some serious fund raising for some very good causes, and better yet, he puts more than his money and his mouth into the ranch. But he just can’t seem to quit race-baiting and sexism. This was not only not his first “mistake,” it was also not his first apology, but it never takes.
Bob Kerrey MUST have been drinking the White House koolaid, to put out something like this.
It’s depressing.
I’m curious; did he vote to authorize? And if so, has he ever eaten it?
BTW, I just posted something with a bunch of links in it to illustrate someone who is worse that Imus. I think it is in FDL jail.
and they like to call Lester Holt of NBC News “Homeboy”.
Loo Hoo. @ 63
If by fun you mean too expensive, yes it is!
And hi Petro, I’m liking cavemen!
How’s about the new Governor of Louisiana?
Mr. Jindal is a technocrat and a Roman Catholic convert, a policy aficionado well-versed in free-market solutions to the crisis in health insurance and a proponent of “intelligent design” as an alternative theory to evolution, suggesting it may be appropriate in school science classes.
Hi Teddy – great

Elmore did the 1996 Republican Convention in San Diego for the just formed Fox Noise…. he had just started his freelance business and was not turning down any work.
He hated the gig, talked about having to get up at 3-4 am to do the news shows and how the stories came via fax from HQ… way before either of us became politically involved….
He felt cootied and thought he would never “feel clean” after that job. That was THE only job that he worked for them, never again.

Cant stop laughing.
Thanks.
Eureka Springs @ 67
Why are the real networks in a pool with FOX anyway? And letting FOX pool with them to cover the Democratic convention goes against everything that (was) holy in newsgathering.
I always find it funny that people think Imus actually garners ratings worthy of their presence. Imus has made a living conning advertisers into thinking someone was listening to him. In this case, Kerrey is just another sucker on the vine.
SnarKassandra @ 65
all the biggest cheaters i’ve known when it comes to govt. programs are Rethugs. They think they’re entitled to game the system.
but re imus, just because he’s standing in the line doesn’t mean he’s gonna qualify. i think it would be a good personal growth kinda experience for him *g*
Goodnight all.

Good Heavens, they had Couric interview Valerie Plame ?
Couldn’t they find a Fifth Grader ?!!
Loo Hoo. @ 73
While I sympathize with madmommy and any other LA Firepups, this may be a blessing for the Democrats (if not the state of Louisiana). There is still such a mess left over from Katrina (not just in NO) and so many other problems in the state that whoever gets the job is in for a very tough time with a high likelihood of failure (given that the feds are not going to be very forthcoming and the state does not have the necessary resources).

Already? Just cuz Buster gets to take the bus tomorrow? Best.
Ahhh. Feeling like me again.
I think I also need to say something about “courage points.”
As someone pointed out above, it might LOOK like when you are on the show things are going well, but if you EVER decide NOT to show up then they will mock you mercilessly.
The one who will be the biggest ‘winners’ will be the people like Kerrey who are the first on the show when Imus comes back. So if he can convince other Democrats to some on the show it will dilute his association with him, “Everyone is doing it…”
So when Imus makes another racist sexist statement I don’t want to hear any of this “no one could have anticipated he would say something terrible again!”
Imus needs THEM more than they need Imus. Especially when he first comes back. No doubt the “journalmalists” will be the first back.
Evening Betsy. How’s things down there in Texas?
DrDick @ 119
Much better thanks. Texteen almost feeling back to himself. And I got to go to a wedding this afternoon with Snarky.

Whether or not to allow sports talk is really up to TSF – it is his thread and we will respect his house by following his lead…
the only advantages to where the Santiago fire is burning… lots of nurseries in the area (the plant kind) and lots of recently scraped off strawberry fields getting ready for new construction. it SHOULD stop at the 405 so it doesn’t burn all the way to the sea (about another 17 miles, but I’ve seen it happen before)
There are houses to the north and west of the fire – most of the construction is fairly recent, so fairly fire resistent.
Woo-hoo, 60 Mins is finally on here…!!!
Old Coastie, I’ll trust you over the OC Register’s commenters any day.
Thanks for the correction!
Hi Folks: Seething against our folks, aint gonna bring progessive politices very far. You gonna attack Gore next, because he’s a coward and won’t run?

Holding someone accountable to community standards is not attacking sid.
It is called accountability to the voters who elected you to speak on their behalf.
TexBetsy @ 117

its being accountable to your employers… the people who make sure they get a paycheck….
Sid58 @ 125
Voting for people, like Clinton, who are not noticeably progressive (except when compared to the fascists on the right) is even less productive. We have a right and a duty to demand that our candidates act like progressives.
Playing kissyface with media racists is like asking Grover Norquist to wash your back.
good luck, Old Coastie…hope you don’t have to pack up and leave tonight…or try to speed up any photo sorting!

Oh absolutely. One of my favorite guilty pleasures and why I keep clicking, even when I know I will regret it (in part).
Spocko — thanks for the links re: Rodgers. Cripes, KSFO is Radio Rwanda, and we’re tolerating it, like Tutsi.
It’s time to go after the FCC and squelch the excessive consolidation.
Sid58 — you’ve never heard of accountability or party discipline here on the progressive side of the fence, apparently; neither have many of our so-called Democratic leaders. Get used to it.
And Gore is the example, the very poster boy of what happens when the left loses their way; he let the consultantocracy repackage him into something he wasn’t, encouraged him to play the ‘wingers’ game, creating so small a margin between himself and his opponent that they could easily manipulate that gap into a win. Gore, above all else in the Democratic firmament, now gets it. He’s not playing on the same field with an old school moderate like Kerrey; it’s for this reason that Kerrey is done politically, and why Gore could actually run for president if he chose to.
OT – this f*cking pisses me off. I knew it was bad, you knew it was bad, but you didn’t know they were actually willing and complicit in LIHOP against one of our own. But if they’d coverup Tillman, why would they stop there?
Wow, how many meet-ups are now planned in the next few weeks? Central Texas, LA/San Diego, Oklahoma. Anyone else?
spocko @ 118
Makes me wonder, then, if Kerrey has another paymaster for the op-ed.
Has anyone commented in the last 24 hours that Bush’s radio address was on Conservation of two fish species? Note: In the movie Dave, the President is replaced by a look alike, could this have happened to Bush?
Yesterday, Bush was holding a Screech Owl on his leather gloved hand and Cheney shot it and killed it. Just kidding about the last part. All of a sudden, Bush cares about Striped Bass and Red Drum fish. Something sounds fishy to me!
And it was an Executive Order.

Hola, perros del fuego.
Teddy, someone needs to inform Kerrey about the ‘culos‘ habit of conspicuous cowardly absences.
Otherwise, he could wind up looking foolish, and whom among us wants that, eh?
so.
For those of us here in Nebraska, Kerry may be our only hope of a semi-sane senator. When Hagel retires in ‘08 the seat will be open for any of several really repulsive Republicans (redundancy), bur OUR R’s are REALLY REPULSIVE, and we already have 3 of them in the House. I mean these guys are so bad, even their own party kept Lee Terry on the back bench. Kerry at least has some name recognition a has won elections in the state in the past. It makes him about as appealing a his BFF, Joe. And even Joe looks better than the alternative (that brought up dinner). Imagine a cross between Gouhliani, Tancredo and Duncan Hunter (they’re R’s, they can do a three way), and you get the idea. Weep for us.

I’ve been thinking for a while that the problem we have right now is that Edwards and Obama are splitting the anti-Hillary vote. The reason I ask is that I have only met one person who is a Hillary supporter in the local grassroots community and her reasoning is get this….. “I want a woman President in my life time” …… this person is in her early 40’s [insert rolled eyes here]
I attended both Yearlykos and DemocracyFest 2005 & 2006, I have yet to meet anyone who was an avid Hillary person. Many a Texan in Austin told me that they would wouldn’t spit on her if her ass was on fire…… kind of get the impression they were not impressed
That is why I do not believe the polls
katymine @ 237
Hillary speaks for me in the sense that she can knock any republican upside the head, bigtime. Losing the Whitehouse in ‘08 would be the end of America. She has the guts, brains, and machinery behind her to make sure that doesn’t happen. Beyond this election, I’m open to being more demanding in terms of someone more liberal. Winning in ‘08 is everything.
Weekend cleanup time:
Every Firepup is familiar with the leadership shown by Sen. Chris Dodd last week, giving the Democrats some spine with respect to blocking the Democratic so-called leadership from collaborating with the Whitehouse in yet another collaboration with criminal behavior by the WH and their co-conspirators. If you haven’t dropped a donation in the hat for Dodd yet, please make clear your support for his act of courage.
In this fight with a lawless White House, we need more than individual politicians. So in this last week props are due to several organizations that have been BIG in this fight:
* FDL, of course
* ACLU has been on the front lines in the fight about FISA
* And lets not forget CREW, which gets props from markthshark at DailyKos, who wrote,
We hear lots of bad things about “lobbyists.” The ACLU and CREW are examples of “good” lobbyists. They deserve our support, too.

Well, yes, it pisses me off. It also makes me wonder if this has anything to do with her taking impeachment off the table.
(a) If she took impeachment off the table before getting this information, this should have been sufficiently jolting to make her put impeachment back on the table. Why didn’t she?
(b) If she took impeachment off the table after getting this info, one has to wonder what kind of deals have been struck.
Either way, it makes her look like a co-conspirator in the WH crimes.

My sentiments, exactly. I wanted to like Obama, but the guy seems to have no “fire in the belly”. With all of his history, he still seems too much like a work in progress. I mostly like Edwards, but he’s already lost to the Republicans once, and I don’t see him winning next time out. And as mentioned above, the matching funds thing leaves him at a definite disadvantage. This time I want the Democrats to collect every dime they can. The last thing they need to do is allow themselves to in a position not to be able to answer every false charge by the Republicans.

There are those who think this is only “identity” politics. Wrong. Bob Kerrey is among those brave Democrats who has endorsed the privatization of Social Security, too.
I never had a problem with Imus. His mistake wasn’t so much what he said but who he said it about – innocent kids who had just almost accomplished something big. Everyone knew how Imus was and if they didn’t like him they didn’t listen/watch. People are so proud that they took down Imus but scumbag Isaiah Thomas still has a job. But like Gwen Ifil said, whetever, it wasn’t a big deal.
Imus is a sexist racist homophobic pig and not a friend to Democrats…in this election he is supporting McCain unless he has switched to The Plunger. Although he did support Kerry he trashed him every chancce he got. he said terrible things about Ned lamont
democrats should boycott and bob kerrey is a wide load of crap. I certainly hope he doesn’t run he would justbe another loserman
people who don’t have a problem with Imus..have a problem
by the way Gwen Ifil did not say whatever…
Kinda like OLielly being AMAZED that anyone would find his amazement that Black folks can run a rest. just like white folks do!!!! He thinks because he wasn’t “trying” to be racist it’s OK. No dipwad, because yer not “trying” to be racist just underscores how racist you REALLY are. Imus is the same thing. ANY candidate or Dem who gos on his new show WILL NOT GET MY VOTE! PERIOD! Even if it means sitting out this election. If THAT is the best the Dem’s can do them this country DESERVES four more years of repugnantklan “rule”.
“…whatever, it wasn’t a big deal.”
Beg to differ, Beer: if one of the democratic candidates does brainfart enough to appear on Imus, we’ll MAKE it a big deal. :o)
JimH @ 321; good point about Kerrey wanting to turn SS over to the tender mercies of Wall St. Now, more than ever, with the bills for Operation Endless Shitmire coming down the road, the asshats would LOVE to be able to prop up that floating crap game and to protect if from the REAL marketplace shitstorms that are coming down the pike. And the best way they can do it it to hand the billions in SS to the fatcats who run the NYSE.
“Privatizing” SS should be a pulsating day-glo red line, for any american who actually works for a living.
Shorter TB, on this thread:
My 2c; Bob Kerrey went RIGHT to the top of my shitlist, with his little pronouncement on this.
Look, if these wish to go on Imus let them….20 years ago he had a funny piece about a National Guard unit stopping by a Burger King for 600(?) hamburgers in the days of Have it Your Way. Kept changing the order. In any event that was the last time it was funny. After that he just became Full of himself and went downhill. He’s just an irrelevant old ass shouting at the kids to get off his lawn.
Who gives a shit what Bob Kerrey thinks. He is as irrelevant as out beloved President. Maybe more so. Which is why he is Hardly anyone even knows who he is.
Tanbark @ 14
If you think Imus is right wing, you’ve never listened to his show. His humor is crude and childish but he is not right wing. He has no use for Bush. He’s beat up on and made nice to just about everyone at one time or another. I don’t care either way who goes on his show. My politics is far left of center like yourselves and, dare I say, if I’m in the mood, I’ve found him to be funny.
He made a mistake and he said he was sorry. Just because you do not like his brand of humor is no reason to condemn a candidate for going on his show. That’s just anal.
Joe – If his career hadn’t been peppered with similar statements, I might take this comment seriously. Listen to some of the older stuff – very similar.
