Howard Kurtz has a new book!
Not only is Howard Kurtz promoting his new book Reality Show on TV and in the pages of the Washington Post, he’s also got his very own blog to do so as well. If you’re the sort of person who lays awake at night and wonders how Kurtz spends his day, this blog is for you! “Providence, Portland, San Francisco, D.C., Cleveland, Minneapolis, Nashville, L.A., Raleigh, Chicago, St. Louis and Detroit,” reads one riveting post. “Those are the cities where I conducted radio interviews before 10 this morning. And that was before my half-hour on Sirius or my hour with Ed Schultz (or my five minutes with Glenn Beck).”
Wow. What a whirlwind!
For example, his first real post, on October 7, was titled “Making Waves” and said that his book was “already picking up steam. Drudge is trumpeting a big item.” His blog never mentions the subsequent reports showing that the “big item” hyped by Drudge (and in the Post), an alleged scoop about former anchorman Dan Rather threatening CBS if it refused to air the Bush/National Guard story in 2004, had actually been published three years earlier in a book by David Blum.
Another thing Kurtz didn’t mention on his blog, at least thus far, was the lunch he hosted for the book yesterday at Charlie Palmer Steak, one of the preferred Washington meeting places for the lobbyists and politicians that Kurtz is so friendly with.
Kurtz links to his self-interview about Reality Show on “Reliable Sources,” which Gawker called an “Auto-fellating stunt.”
How odd that the book languishes at #3,215 on Amazon.
Oh well, at least he beats Matt Bai, whose New York Times review rocketed him from #8,000 to #7,000 in a heartbeat.
Someday publishers will realize that the beltway bores these tomes are written to please don’t actually buy books.
I guess they’ll just have to ask Keith Olbermann and Glenn Greenwald what the view from the top looks like.

Jane!
hiya Jane!
On my way out right now to pick up this valuable volume…
The Hacktacular One is really quite pathetic when all is said and done.
Hey, that’s a hell of a lot better than #35,517, which is where
Sean Hannity’s Deliver Us from Evil : Defeating Terrorism, Despotism, and Liberalism is.
Reminds me of an old Laugh-In comment about the White House being “flooded with a call.”
Heh, right-wing screed is finally attaining it’s proper level…
omg that Gawker link is just painful — doesn’t CNN have the technology to even make the auto-fellate work? Comedy Central does it right for Colbert in his “Formidable Opponent” segments.
I found all the Amazon reviews to be quite helpful:
Hi Teddy!
Elliott @ 3
What, ya need something to level your table? ;-)
In some ways I see Howard Kurtz as representative of everything that’s wrong with American media.
well, he is contributing in his own small way to carbon sequestration.. Imho i think it’d be better if the books stayed in their original format, i.e., trees.
I think these beltway bores’ books are another reason Americans have stopped reading…they’re taking up shelf space that might be occupied by something actually entertaining, enlightening, or even beautifully written. Ugh.
I’m glad i don’t have a new computer!
Everythingseemssoneat @ 11
Indeed, an understatement.
I still can’t get over it. Howard Kurtz can write. I never suspected. I mean if you ever heard him you would never guess.
CTuttle @ 10
my! you are perceptive!!!
Everythingseemssoneat @ 11
Actually he is representative of everything that’s wrong with American media in the other ways as well.
Kurtz showed up on BiLLO the other day and got skewered by that clown…5, 6, 7, 8 “nobody likes me, everyone hates me, now I can eat some woorms!!
Howie Kurtz, just like Fred Hiatt, came from the Washington Star.
I used to have a Washington Star paper route (it was an afternoon paper). Sometimes, I’d get home from school and find my cat, Whack, sitting on my stack of papers waiting for me.
That’s the best thing I can say about the Washington Star (this was back in the 1970s, btw ;).
Hugh @ 16
You’re making a bold assumption he actually churned that out! *g*
Howie was so happy talking to Jon Stewart. He was so happy that he didn’t notice that Jon Stewart was, in the most polite way possible, telling Howie that he left his brains on a railroad track somewhere back in the 60’s or 70’s or so.
Howie is stupid. There is no softer word that honestly describes this imbecile who has made my brow furrow for the past way to f’ing many years.
WaPo! Fire this idiot! Please!
Amazon.com Sales Rank: #3,597 in Books
I think Teddy’s rejoinder would be appropriate: “Sucks…with teeth.”
Let’s face it, this book “author” is getting more talkshow time than author & presidential candidate Stephen Tiberius Colbert, and that’s a damn shame.
Except that Stephen’s book is #4 on Amazon.
Mad Dogs @ 24
*ouch* …most unsatisfying sensation! ;-)
Olbermann. Why do I listen to, and read this person’s stuff? Because he’s almost always right. Used to be the same with Molly Ivins.
Get Tough @ 19
Is that like cannibalism?
You know, I never knew who Kurz was (except for his reputation on liberal blogs) until I saw the clip of his session with Jon Stewart. What a putz! I’ve had to work with guys like him who make it up as they go along, and can spot them a mile a way. A putz. What else?
You know… we’ve got a lot of smart people on ‘our side’.
Kitt @ 22
I actually think Howie is the man for that particular job.
OT…almost as funny as that IDIOT Kurtz’s self promotion..
Spew Warning do not have ANY liquid near the keyboard when you open this;

c-span’s book tv has an interview with naomi wolf starting in 30 min. and she’s being interviewed by …… viet dinh!
who thought up that combination?
Perhaps when Deb Howell’s trial employment period is up this fall, WaPo will slide Howie over to the Ombuds slot. Then Glennzilla could be their media critic.
selise @ 33
I saw the interview last night…He tries to run all over Naomi, and spew THUG talking points on her, she had none of it…she is TOO SMART, TOO ARTICULATE for this loser neo-con.
Way OT, but I had to share.
Something about Erik Prince’s appearance, especially his hairstyle, bothered me, and I finally figured out what it is. That short hair with the carefully combed bang over the forehead was a common hairstyle of the Hitlerjugend, and a Google image search yields several strikingly similar examples, both from photos and propaganda posters. Check out this one, for example (Komm zu uns, halfway down the page). See also the photo at the top of this article.
Maybe I’m reading too much into a hairstyle, but nothing that appears on TV is an accident – everything is planned out to the minutest detail. Clearly the Prince of Blackwater is not concerned about the possibility that his appearance may evoke that period in history.
Elliott @ 28
Hehe. But you’re giving worms a bad name!
At least Kurtz pretends to have a brain. That ought to be worth something. No? Well I cannot argue with that.
Franco @ 35
i couldn’t decide if the choice was brillant or lunacy. guess i’ll have to give it listen…
Franco @ 32
AWESOME!eleven11!
OfT:
Ask ‘progressive’ Senators to back Chris Dodd here
Stop Bush’s wireless wiretapping here
Raph Levien @ 36
Great point, but not to burst your bubble, he has had that hairstyle since beating up on Latino migrant workers in high school.
selise @ 33
I watched it earlier, at one point I was exasperated at Naomi for not refuting Dinh’s argument that; Clinton asked for all the USA’s resignations… what was wrong with Shrub’s floating of it in ‘06!!! Uh, because it’s habit for administrations to request it at the beginning of their term, not, in the middle. 8-(
Kitt @ 22
Oh, Howie’s not stupid. He’s just permanently stuck in ‘Ho Mode.
He’ll always try cute little rhetorical tricks of evasion to avoid being pinned down on anything, a tactic that works quite well on most TV and radio shows, particularly call-in or write-in shows that only allow one question per questioner. But if an interviewer has the time and patience to slowly ping him into a corner, he starts to lose control of his bowels.
Franco @ 32
I’m afraid that they left out my favorite picture of

yup
Howard Annis Kurtz gooper trophy husband, has a long career of sucking up to the rightwing to guarantee happiness at home.
Even Tweety could get his wife to interview him for his booktour and po’ po’ Howie had to do it himself…even his gooper wifie for whom he is in the tank won’t appear in public with him
So good, it had to be repeated:

The job of making my brow furrow? Or the job of being the face of the so often inane Washington Post?
The latest Republican shooting star?
AP – Changing Louisiana’s reputation for corruption would do more than just make over its image, Gov.-elect Bobby Jindal said Sunday: It could help the state attract businesses and win federal aid for hurricane recovery.
How about changing the GOP’s “reputation for corruption”.
selise @ 33
I saw that already. Definitely worth watching. Throughout the interview, Viet Dinh halfheartedly tries to defend the Bush administrationa and Wolf cuts him off at the knees every time.
A warning: you will have to resist an urge to throw a rock through your TV when Viet Dinh mendaciously argues that the U.S. Attorney purge was appropriate because “Clinton himself fired all 92 of the U.S. Attorneys.”
*xyz @ 52
And so did Papa Bush, Reagan, Carter…
Yesiree. Just what N.O. and the rest of LA. needs. A Republican chief Exec.
*xyz @ 52
Heh, see my 43! I concur, it was an excellent interview!
Jane Hamsher @ 9
Doesn’t Nolan realize who Kurtz is married to?
Oklahoma kiddo @ 51
Unfortunately it’s likely all talk on his part. He’s taken money from questionable sources, his voting record in Congress is abysmal. And despite his concentrated sucking up to the Bush administration, it hasn’t resulted in much for Louisiana but empty promises.
See http://www.jindalisbad.com
I think I’d rather curl up with “My Pet Goat” that the latest Kurtz eye glazer.
The Slime-Bag WaPo treated Howie to the opportunity to “preview” his book by publishing a big hunk of it last week.
How stupid [or desperate] are these folks in various cities who give Kurtz air time to promo his drivel?
And is there anything we can do to hastle Lil Debbie’s departure? Any polling being done about her effectiveness, popularity, relevance, stupidity?
I’m looking forward to Val Plame’s visit to the lake tomorrow. Who caught her on 60 minutes tonight? Does anyone want to share their impression of how the segment went?
To whom is Kurtz married?
Mauimom @ 59
Debbie’s gig should expire this fall, if not this month. It’s so dreadfully challenging to ombuds The ComPost that people only last two years.

PERFECT! Also, no disrespect to our transgender friends, but I got a good dose of Laura Graham on George S this morning. Long face, deep voice, manly features…can I get a ruling on her feminity?

I held my nose re Ms. Couric and watched. Val was wonderful. Couric tried to trap her a number of times [re the Vanity Fair article, and were she & Joe “partisan”]. Val was articulate, on point, beautiful [natch] and just generally wonderful.
Howie Kutrz’ wankishness knows no bounds. Abu Grahib rvelations=Hillary Clinton’s cleavage.
See? They all do it. You bloggers are just so damn shrill.
Excuse me while I take this call from Michelle Malkin.
The fetid Beltway Punditry lives on. Get a life , people!!
CTuttle @ 43
In keeping with the tradition of each new administration cleaning house and appointing new US Atty’s, it stands to reason that Dubya and Co. would have fired not one but two sets of US attorneys. Did Bushco not fire and replace an existing group of attys in 2000? (These would have been leftovers from the Clinton Administration. Such action would be comparable to what Clinton and prior administrations did).
Later, Dubya and AG Gonzales, et al, decided to fire a second round of attorneys. Thus creating the US ATTY Scandal. These were Republican Attorneys that they selected for their own administration. These Republican Atty’s were fired b/c they refused to follow Rove’s orders to prosecute only Democrats (and drop any pending cases against Republicans).
Do I have this right?
I saw him interviewed by Jon Stewart, and Kurtz failed to understand a single question he was asked. Breathtakingly dumb. And yet — employed.
Although you don’t see it on Kurtz’s show when he was interviewed on the Daily Show you can see he has a comb over
Joe Klein’s conscience @ 56
I don’t understand what all the kerfuffle is about. I would think that by this time all would realize that what The MeatGrinder, the GWOT and Dear Leader are all about is….
Helping Howie and BillO and Coultergeist and the fat idiot Tweety……
Sell their books! Wake up you liburuls! These Very Serious People are mainly about one thing and one thing only….No, no, no!
It ain’t ’supporting the
cannon foddertroops’…NO!It’s all about getting paid.
Just ask Howie he’ll tell ya….
Well…maybe even he ain’t that stupid…but, yeah that’s what this is all about. And while there might not be as much do-re-mi in crummy books as there is in mercenaries, MREs, $300m embassies, police stations which leak sewage and those other big ticket items KBR, Halliburton and The Carlyle Group are producing…..’
Howie-the-Putz will take what he can get.
Kevster @ 74
“Shrill”? How am I gonna be ‘foul-mothed’ and ’shrill’? Would somebody tell them to stop changing our characteristics like the clothing on a mannequin! I mean, how can we live down to their expectations if they keep changing it all the time.
I try, I really do. But, they just make it sooo hard.
BTW, who is Howie Kurtz?
Fair Game has shot up from about 550 on Amazon this evening just before 60Minutes to 101 just after midnight et. Maybe the interview broke some new ground.
CTuttle @ 43
Because at the BEGINNING of the term you aren’t retaliating against them for investigating naughty things by the Administration in power. You are simply clearing out “patronage” positions. But when you attack your own patronage appointments for investigating activities you don’t want it’s considered obstruction of justice.
His absurd “Hilary’s cleavage=Abu Ghraib” note from last week is reason enough not to buy it.
