This was kind of a grim week as far as our Democratic legislative leaders go. Rule of thumb: when even the NYTimes editorial board can rightly call you out for your lack of sack, you’ve had it.
I have no idea what it will take for the Democratic leadership to get it through their heads that it’s not just the base but also the entire frickin’ country that wants them to tell the Bushites to piss off with their waterboarding and their warrantless wiretaps and their dumbass horrible wars, and their lying, and oh yeah, all the damn dead people. How much more appalling could the Congressional poll numbers get? Is this some sort of science project — are they trying to compel statisticians to discover entirely new mathematical methodologies for calculating exactly how much contempt they’re held in? America wants a change. OFFER ONE. Is Chris Dodd really the only one among you capable of perceiving the obvious?
FDL doesn’t do endorsements. I don’t do endorsements either. But speaking strictly for myself, the Editors have a point.
Dodd has already taken a great risk – both personally and for his constituents in Connecticut – by putting this bill on ‘hold’. A filibuster would be a hundred times worse. Just threatening a filibuster is a total slap in the face to Harry Reid and the rest of the 11%-approval Get Along Gang in Congress, the telecom lobby, and President 24%. Clinton and Obama are probably still arguing about the correct diplomatic etiquette for public discussions of bombing our allies. This strange, shrill and unBroderian spectacle is what was once called “leadership”. Dodd has my vote, and my cash, and my time. Hint, hint.
Dunno if I’ll vote for Dodd. Dunno if I’ll even have the chance. But I will say this, to any Democratic strategist reading this post, contemplating some balancing act about how to handle 2008:
If you concede on habeas corpus, if you concede on ending the war, if you concede on bringing troops home, if you concede on FISA, if you concede on waterboarding, if you concede on holding this misbegotten failure of an administration accountable for their abuses, if you give one more goddamn inch —
Come 2008, I aim to misbehave.
Maybe that’s just me. But I doubt it.

Fuck Yeah!!!!
Hi Thers, hi everyone. Good stuff! And as someone once said, “I’m mad as hell and I’m not gonna take it anymore!”
Suzanne @ 8
(jumps on chair & joins the ovation) you are telling it, Thers
That about says it.
I’m going to keep on doing research on Dodd up to the Alaska Caucuses. I’m warming to him more rapidly than the weather here is cooling – 2 inches of snow last night, and more coming…
Suzanne @ 13
For real?
Evening all. Great post thers and right on target. I also intend to misbehave in ‘08 and have already started. Sent very nasty emails to Reid & Pelosi letting them know that if they did not grow a set and do the jobs they were elected to do, we would find someone who would.
OT: This is for all the Okies in the house. I have been alternately appalled and giggling uncontrollably since I saw it. As the expression goes, karma’s a bitch.
hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi !!!!!!!!!!

?????? Suzanne a Republican?? Jeeebus I’m fix’in to faint.
I believe it’s I aim to misbehave ;)
SnarKassandra @ 21
Aloha!!!
PW, yeap, I’m the lake’s token republican
I sent a fax to Dodd thanking him for his stand on this issue, as well as to Feingold for his support. When our reps screw up, they need to hear about it, and when they do the right thing, ditto. I was just so damned happy to finally see a dem grow a spine and say ENOUGH!
T’anks all.
I’m in a mood…
SnarKassandra @ 21
Hi from Maine, Cassie!
Peterr @ 11
I am already in negative territory. I am thinking of making my inflammatory emails to our undistinguished leaders a weekly (perhaps daily) feature until they start doing their fucking jobs.
hi Cassie!
DrDick @ 20
Isn’t that just too good! Mama likes some “young” boys. And the daughters are a laugh a minute….. not.
DrDick @ 21
hee, hee. Wonder if their tax status will be looked into(fingers and toes crossed)?
NSA eavesdropping of the Senate and House LeaderDems or their loved ones is the only possible explanation for their continued capitulation.
Financial shenanigans, continuing illegalites, dicy morality, sexual proclivities: all regularly captured and documented, and available in real-time to the West Wing.
The Democrats fold to a President supported by less than one in four Americans. This is the time when his own party solons should travel up Pennsylvania Avenue with his exit strategy in their hands, but no — the opposition party enables him at every turn in his GWOT.
Who is terrorized, LeaderDems?
SnarKassandra @ 21
Hiya !!! Big Saturday night and the gang is almost all here. Cassie and Thers, and everyone, lets make waves in 2008.
SnarKassandra @ 21
And hi yourself little snarky one.
I rarely post, but Dodd may have come upon the only way of shaking up the leadership, of forcing them to rethink their current policies.
By — strictly metaphorically, but otherwise, in a very very real way…
Blowing shit up. Mythbusters style. Big time. That’s exactly what the hold and filibuster was — tossing a stick of dynamite straight into their little punchbowl.
hiya!
Suzanne @ 25
I hear there are laws against tokin’, Suzanne, so you’d better watch it — even if you are a republican.
Oh, wait . . . you said “token.”
Never mind.
Suzanne @ 25
Holyeeeeee shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thers @ 27
I think it’s something that is going around.
Wow DrD, that is some expose’ on the Roberts! Fundies gone wild?
DrDick @ 20
Oh, my, my, my…but, but, but…they went on Larry King, and they said everything was just fine and it was all lies………:O
Besides being a republican, have I mentioned that I was a fundy, married to a fundy, and that baby girl went to a private evangelical fundy elementary school that was run by our church?
LoudounLib @ 41
Couldn’t happen a more deserving set of sanctimonious shits. Somehow seems appropriate that we use to refer to Roberts the elder as “Anal” in my youth.
That’s exactly what the hold filibuster was — tossing a stick of dynamite straight into their little punchbowl.
Well, he certainly dropped *something* in the punch bowl…
SnarKassandra @ 37
you fixed the keyboard, eh?
Suzanne @ 43
Then you will also appreciate my OT post above.
Thers, I think Angry Black Bitch is right in tune with you. She went off on the questions asked of the AG nominee about torture . . .
Yep.
Suzanne @ 43
Sorry Suz, didn’t mean to offend :-(
hear hear!
sounds like the Axiom of obligatory support for the least worst is under serious strain!
heresy! taboo!
no, it’s easy. stick to your principles, don’t vote for or support someone who says a nuclear first strike on a country that does not threaten the USA is an option on the table, even if they have a (D) after their name.
Ed*ard Teller @ 49
huh?
Suzanne @ 43
Gasp!! Are you our Suzanne of yore? Or maybe her evil twin? :-)
LoudounLib @ 41
Wow DrD, that is some expose’ on the Roberts! Fundies gone wild?
Fundies goin’ to jail, quite possibly…
The IRS not being exactly known for their sense of humor, ya know…
About halfway done setting up our blog for live blogging former Alaska State Representative Vic Kohring’s bribery and corruption trial next week. Howzit look so far? Any suggestions?
Some San Franciscan got a commitment from Senator Biden to join Dodd’s hold and filibuster during Biden’s WaPo chatz on Friday:
heh.
(They can’t resist the questions that include built-in suck-up, even when they’d rather.)
Suzanne @ 43
Ouch!!! Totally understandable how that happens though.
SnarKassandra @ 51
Your “hi” key got stuck. ;~)
No Mas!
With 74% of the precincts reporting state-wide, Bobby Jindal is at 53%, Walter Boasso at 18%. Looks as though we got us a new governor. For the believers out there, say a prayer, light a candle, burn some inscense, whatever you’ve got. We’re gonna need it.
What I’m trying to find out is: since he is a sitting congresscritter who didn’t resign his seat to run for gov, what happens now? As gov-elect he is going to be mighty busy, and even less likely to do his job in Congress than he has the last few months. Can he hold 2 posts at once? Does he have to quit now, so Blanco replaces him? Inquiring minds want to know and I can’t find any info on this, and no one is talking about it locally.
LoudounLib @ 49
Not offended at all… I for one am mad as hell about what boosh has done to my country.
I believe it’s I aim to misbehave ;)
Whoops, yeah.
TeddySanFran @ 55
Who could have possibly asked such a sneaky question . . .
SnarKassandra @ 51
nev-er-er-er-er-er-er mind…
madmommy @ 59
Are you in Louisiana?
TeddySanFran @ 33
Why, private corporations, naturally.
PeterK @ 65
Yep
this is simply amazing.
Air Force Col. Morris Davis, the JAG officer in charge of prosecuting Guantanamo detainees, resigned from the Air Force earlier this week.
Seems he was coming under pressure to make changes to the military commission procedures that would have made them even more unfair, so as to ensure that there will be some big names convicted before the 2008 elections.
I will post the link to the WaPo story when I get home.
Now THIS is fuckery.
Thers!
CTuttle!
See Tuttle Run, Thers!
Just kidding.
It’s a drive-by cuz I LOVE THAT MOVIE! And I really should get some work done.
The leadership of the Democratic Party sure seems to be in league with those republican devils, NONE of them Pelosi, Reid, Hoyer, Emanuel, Rockefeller, Clinton should all be defeated in the next election they run in. It would be especially heartwarming to see these folks lose in primary contests. These politicians are not going to get out country out of the hands of the evil ones now running it as they are part of the cult!
Ed*ard Teller @ 54
Frankly, I’d switch the two photos. Let the perp walk photo answer your question “Why this blog?” at the top and then fill in the background.
“This is GOP State Representative Kohring. He may not look that impressive in this photo, but that’s because he’s been arrested and is being tried for . . .”
madmommy @ 59
I can’t cite it right now, but, Jindal has to resign his seat in the House…!!!
Ed*ard Teller @ 54
Cool, I like real barebones themes myself but that just a matter of style :)
Teddy!
Sorry, Thers, this is OT.
Teddy, I don’t know if you have already answered this in a previous thread (sorry). BUT, there was some speculation as to who was “SanFrancisco” in the Biden chat at WaPo. The one who elicited the YES from Biden.
You emerged as the prime suspect. Are you willing to confirm or deny?
burnspbesq @ 67
Here you go.
madmommy @ 59
Governors usually replace Senators, while Representatives are usually replaced with special elections. But La Law may be (usually is) quite different.
When I was a teenager, 2 million years ago, I wasn’t worried about the fundies…I was worried about the Moonies….When the Fundies got more prevalent, the Moonies kind of receded…now, we have both…the Moonies run all kinds of things, the media and they influence W and his brother, and the Fundies influence everything else too…
I think the Moonies taught the Fundies the ropes…I think they are one and the same thing…they indoctrinate peoples’ minds, manipulate them and get them to go to war for them. I remember clearly that Moon wanted to create an “army” to get rid of North Korea, that was his goal. Now, the Fundies have created Blackwater, and the RNC, and the Monica Goodlings of the world. We’re in a whole lot of doo..doo folks…
At least we know it.
Valley Girl @ 73
Teddy is San Francisco (and so can you!)
boy, Nancy Pelosi thinks we are a pain in the ass now, wait til she sees what fuckery we could raise come 2008! it won’t be 10 people camped out on her lawn, it’ll be 10,000…
I wrote Nancy today. I do believe it is the first time I’ve ever used “Stockholm Syndrome” and “battered spouse syndrome” in a letter to a representative.
Valley Girl @ 73
Mahalo, VG, Inquiring minds do want to know, Teddy…!!! *g*
from outside the Democratic Exasperation Societies, where moaning is allowed but bolting is forbidden, we find writers like Chris Floyd at Empire Burlesque who says:
Ed*ard Teller @ 54
Excellent. Speaking as a graphic designer & budding web designer. Clean, uncluttered. I always apreciate dark text on a lighter (but not white) ground. Font looks good, good space between paragraphs.
burnspbesq @ 67
It is indeed. If this shit keeps up, I may have to go shopping for street sweepers and AK-47s. To paraphrase T. Jefferson, as paraphrased by Mao Tse Tung, we need a revolution in this generation.
p.s. Sorry it took me so long to ask the above question. But, my typing was especially slow.
And, before typing I did not see Teddy’s comment above. I think we already got an answer.
TeddySanFran @ 75
Fricking Napoleonic code hangovers…!!!
1,634 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND..
Citizen Thers and the Firepup Freedom Fighters:
I’ve been sayin’ this since yesterday mornin’ but here goez again: if Nancy One Note tries ta hang Stark out ta dry on Monday mornin’ and caves in ta the fascist cry for blood, there must be a swift and overwhelmin’ effort ta flood the leadership phones and e-mails with protest. The progressives in the House of Representatives must advance like the progressives in the Senate are beginnin’ ta do, there must be swift and public resistance from within the Democratic caucus to any effort to isolate Stark and cave in ta the krypto-Nazis in the House.
The battle for Democracy in America is now within the Democratic Party and we should tell the progressives in both houses of Congress that we have their backs and we will take this fight public and all the way to the streets of Denver in ‘08 if necessary.
Representative Stark not only spoke for over 60% of the people of this country, but he demonstratively spoke the truth it wasn’t hyperbolic rhetoric. If the Democratic leadership moves ta censor truth to power we gotta run that leadership right outta town.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMUNITION, NOT ALL FASCISTS CALL THEMSELVES REPUBLICANS!!
((((((ndfg and kitty))))))
CTuttle @ 72
Post haste?!?!
To answer your question from the previous thread, I missed watching the Tide open a whole can of whoop-ass today. I was at a birthday party full of bouncing, tumbling toddlers. The kiddos and I wore Tide gear, which worked out well. Turns out the child’s family are all Auburn grads and were decked out in orange and blue. If I had known I would have worn LSU colors, but what we had on was just as good. Now if LSU can just win the damn game.
Peterr @ 70
I can’t do that, because my co-blogger believes Vic has been framed. I’ll be meeting the defendant during the trial too, and I need to be able to get his take on how it is going. This may be the first live blogging attempt by two people with almost diametrically opposing viewpoints on the legal proceeding, covering the event together.
NorskeFlamethrower @ 85
I’m with ya!!
LS @ 76
I grew up with the fundies and they don’t really scare me as such. They are dangerous lunatics and need to be severely curtailed, but they really are not all that big a group and there are ways of splitting them.
madmommy @ 59
IIRC for Reps. it’s a special election. BTW
LA is an interesting place..It’s hard to imagine all of those Rednecks voting for an Oxford educated, Indian-American, named Piyush Jindal.
Valley Girl @ 73
Twas I, my dear.
madmommy @ 87
Heh, Game 7!!! 12-2 Bosox……..!!!!!!
Suzanne @ 43
Hi, Suzanne!
I’m a former fundy, too. I even went to Bible college. It comes in handy when I have to quote Scripture to those who claim to know it, and actually don’t.
I finally left the church when I realized I believed nothing they were telling me from the pulpit was the truth.
Thers, great post, and wow, Dodd’s looking better and better, isn’t he?
-S
CTuttle @ 85
Yeah, we do things a bit differently down here on the bayou.
OldCoastie @ 78
Wrote her yesterday and told her Stark was a patriot and she was pathetic and that if she wouldn’t do her job we would find someone who would.
Strategerie @ 94
Mine came about when I realized it was not about the Word but about the power and the accumulation of power.
madmommy @ 87
LSU-go in dumb, come out dumb, too. :)
I’m sorry I just couldn’t help myself.
TeddySanFran @ 92
Well, that was just plain brilliant.
And, credit where credit is due, to having a keen nose, punaise was the first to say this.
I will go find his comment. He recognized your style.
Come 2008, I aim to misbehave.
Maybe that’s just me. But I doubt it.
I’m thinking the same thing, but I may not have the patience to wait until 2008.
I don’t think we’ll be alone, either.
Kirk James Murphy, M.D. @ 86
thank you! He’s sleeping off anesthesthia today, we still haven’t told his special girl. Cowardly, but waiting for biopsy results.
madmommy @ 95
Just prior to assumption of the Governorship, Jindal must resign, when is he due to be sworn in?
marymccurnin @ 99
Don’t care how dumb they are as long as they beat Auburn.
Hee hee.
No worries. Let ‘er rip, is my notion.
The “Kelly” scandal is getting bigger….:
http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/…..tails/Iraq whistleblower Dr Kelly WAS murdered to silence him, says MP/article.do
Red Sox 12/Indians 2.
wheeeeeeee!! the best red (not heat) in the blue state!!
CTuttle @ 84
It’s the fusel oils in the red. Try a white.
Suzanne @ 97
Absolutely.
The world looks different from out here.
-S
CTuttle @ 102
Is there time to appoint a dem to his seat? Prolly not since we haven’t heard anything about it.
madmommy @ 95
That’s what my grandma used to say, but she was born in Pickering.
DrDick @ 90
They are everywhere, and they believe in Armageddon, and they believe in people who bomb the M.E., like Bush!!! That is dangerous.
LS @ 105
Serious fuckery… I doubt it was Iraqi dissidents too!!!
Thers @ 104
oh shit – Suzanne to Mod Squad: strap in and hold on.. road’s gonna get bumpy (laughing)
CTuttle @ 112
Me too. I’ve been watching this for years.
CTuttle @ 103
I don’t know. This was a primary, but if these numbers hold he wins outright. The general, if needed, is in November. If I had to guess I would say the first of next year. If he doesn’t resign until right before swearing in, that means he will be even more useless to the state than he is now. He hasn’t voted on any important issue in months. He blew off SCHIP, even though he said he’d vote to override. Probably got him some votes, even though he didn’t have to actually DO it.
http://www.firedoglake.com/200…..nt-1044049
Punaise: betcha dollars to donuts that the “San Francisco” questioner is our very own Teddy SF.
http://www.firedoglake.com/200…..nt-1044072
Punaise: It’s got all the hallmarks of his classic style: courtly deference (feigned or not!) and appreciation matched with a direct question. usually the set-up comes first, however.
My Hurricanes beat FSU: a good day.
Suzanne @ 113
Roger that.
IIRC, there is a Judith Fucking Miller connection to Dr Kelly.
Strategerie @ 94
Folks like that give pulpits a bad name.
My own sense is that if you have to pound on your pulpit, you’re probably using it incorrectly.
et, went back and read the post (as opposed to viewing it thru design critique eyes). Liked your bio at the end, would be nice if your friend can put more in his bio. Perhaps he can’t, due to possible call as witness? I always like to know a little something about who is blogging, but i know it can leave you open to harassment by nutcases.
Suzanne @ 97
I never was a fundie, but had my epiphany about religion at 13. Refused to go to church any more. My mother agreed as long as I read the Bible, so I did. All of it, cover to cover. I then went on and read the Koran, the Bhagavad Gita and Upanishads, Bhuddist scriptures, and a whole lot more. Makes their heads explode when you know more about their religion than they do.
Thers @ 117
It was a good game, however, I’m a long time ‘nole fan…!!! :P
why, I didn’t know Judy Miller’s middle name is “Fucking”…. curious, but appropriate!
It IS Sat nite — and I got to the blogosphere through the Hesiod comments, and then the Eschaton comments, and my own blog is, uh, kind of, um, unruly…
Valley Girl @ 116
punaise could work for the NSA, but then they’d have to shoot him. Of course, they’d be laughing too hard to actually hit him, but still . . .
e-mailed pelosi
Suzanne @ 119
Yup. Wasn’t she the “last” person to email to him or something….
He was Dr. “Iraq can send Nukes in 45 minutes and kill everyone” Debunker...
Man, she gets herself in all kinds of “sittiations”, doesn’t she…
Thers @ 125
(laughing) Thers, your own blog is fucking great! Was just yanking on your chain – not often I succeed with a front pager (more laughing)
DrDick @ 123
Kinda like this?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHaVUjjH3EI
Cassie, I’m sorry I gave you a bump with “hiya” — it is a British chick way of saying hello. Glad you are here, are you still here?
Chris
Ed*ard Teller @ 88
I am very much looking forward to it, and I think your website looks great.
Is anyone watching C-Span right now? Are they still replaying the Reid/Miss McConnell lovefest at the University of Louisville on Monday? Ugh!!
OldCoastie @ 124
Actually that is short for “Fuckinguselessidiot”.
you funny, DrDick!
Peterr @ 120
My own sense is that if you have to pound on your pulpit, you’re probably using it incorrectly.
Peterr, I was reading a commenter the other day who said that those who cheered after voting down the SCHIP veto override knew about Jesus, but hadn’t ever met Him, and certainly didn’t listen when He spoke.
I have to believe that there are many who prefer a quieter, more authentic faith, and act accordingly.
I should also say at this point that I apologize in advance to anyone of faith at the Lake if my comments are offensive.
-S
DrDick @ 134
I thought it was “F*ingPowerfulPoliticalFigures”…
Thers @ 125
Well, with posts like this, that is hardly surprising.
Peterr @ 126
Actually, I am surprised that they haven’t already. 8~)
madmommy @ 26
When he 1st made his filibuster threat a few days ago, I sent Dodd a big THANKYOU e-mail. Then I sent both OH senators one each, [extolling the wisdom of supporting Dodd’s stand - no ifs ands or buts!!!]. (yep, we got ourselves 1 R & 1 D in OH, so? leave me be; i be thinkin’ i knows whut i’m a-doin’.)
Oh yeah, i fired special edition of same to Reid. All on the same day as Dodd’s announcement. I’m not done yet. Are you guys?
I think we should grab the phones, faxes, e-mailtoobes, whateverwegot or that strikes our fancy, and tell ALL the Preznit-wannabes on all sides to back Dodd OR ELSE!
Slap every ‘08 candydate-wannabe-congresscritter with “BACK DODD OR ELSE!”
Then mop up by hitting phones & mailboxes of all the rest.
It’s not their private playground, rented on our dime. We expect NO more games of tiddlies and winks.
We demand that they DO. THEIR. JOB.
Oh yes, and DO thank Sen. Feingold, bless his courage and wisdom.
Mebbe, for an extra personal lil’ touch, some letters to editors a-x the country, calling for the nit and the vice-nit to resign in shame and disgrace. I’d like that.
Hey. That meteor shower due tonite. I didn’ do that. Honest. Anyone else at the Lake wanna take credit? It really is a nice touch.
I might go out & take a look before bedtime.
You had it the last 3 years.
Only 1 offensive TD won’t cut it, though.
Hee hee.
My chain is yours!
new Zogby poll sez:
nonetheless, the DLC owns the (D) party, and win-at-all-costs pragmatists beleive she is electable, and she gets the nod…
and we’ve got a tight race on our hands! tight enough for Diebold and voter supression efforts to make themselves felt.
nonetheless, if the (D)’s nominate such a defeatable, war-hawk neo-con, they deserve to lose.

Valley Girl @ 99
Been away from the Lake, I hadn’t realized Jane did a post on Friday. I discovered the mention at Glennzilla’s first.
Looking forward to Obama and Clinton getting the same question as well.
Reminder for those interested. It is dark outside, Orionids are up there…just in case anyone likes that sort of stuff.
BlueStateRedHead @ 106
best red (not head) of course in the blue state. I guess the best redhead in the bluestate tonight is J.D. Drew for his grand slam.
G’night all.
Peterr @ 74
Let’s hope Waxman gets onto this one! WooHoo!!
DrDick @ 137
That is really funny. thanks
Someone posted in a daytime thread in the last couple of days that it seems Pelosi’s inbox is full and won’t take any more emails. Perhaps faxing is a better option. Can’t fill that thing up!
madmommy @ 150
If we send enough at once, maybe it will melt!
Thanks for the help, pups! Did I chase Kassie away?
A decent archive on the murder of Dr. David Kelly is kept at What Really Happened.
madmommy @ 150
my email to Pelosi went thru this afternoon.
madmommy, her ca offices have voicemail in addition to her dc office
Ed*ard Teller @ 88
Sorry, I forgot that part.
Quite frankly, I’d think that Fred may end up getting himself in trouble with participating in a liveblog like this. I know nothing about the role he and his testimony might have in the trial, and IANAL, but it might give grounds for the judge to declare a mistrial if he starts commenting all the way through about what’s going on in court, before he goes up to offer his testimony.
And if I was prone to wearing tinfoil, I might think that he did it on purpose.
All that aside, it looks like a good opening overview. However it plays out, I look forward to being kept informed. (But will there be ET videos on the courthouse steps, a la Emptywheel and Jane?)
back dodd and biden and demand clinton and obama do likewise.
stop mukasey unless he promises as did e richardson in watergate at his confirmation hearings to be AG to appoint a special proscutor to invesigate wh and justice wrongdoing.
Thank Goddess for Waxman!!! (and Leahy and Feingold and Sheila Jackson Lee, and Maxine Waters) I would have put Sheldon in, but I’m currently mad at him.
OldCoastie @ 124
She must be related to Bucky Fucking Dent, the nemesis of the Red Sox. The announcers calling Bucky F. Dent when he is at Fenway.
Now imagine if we could get all the NYer around her wingnut welfare center to point and say that’s Judy Fucking Miller.
Damn right!!! For whom do these fools think they are working? Where are their orders coming from? How low do the poll numbers have to go before they get the picture?
LS @ 157
Who’s Sheldon? And what did he do?
SnarKassandra @ 51
trust me. i think the rest of us get it, heh. thanks ET.
Hi Cassie.
I am still here. Also on 5 IM’s and starting a lab report about silly putty & force.
Suzanne @ 155
Good to know. However, her staff having to wade through a sea of faxes shooting off the machine may just make an impression.
SnarKassandra @ 162
Physics? Good for the soul.
TeddySanFran @ 145
Teddy! Well, I hope you had an appropriate thrill reading that from Greenwald.
And, I should point out that although punaise was the first to mention it, there were others who were on to you! ;)
tw3k @ 127
Um, did you mean “condemn” or “condone”? Rather different meaning, although they sound a bit alike. Just wondering.

Your site is looking great and is now bookmarked. Can a boy hope that John Henry Browne has lost some of his court room magic?
peterboy @ 156
I say we target every Democratic Senator who does not back Dodd be targeted for replacement.
Final Sox-obsessive act of the nite, sorry of the early morning: The Red Sox invited Senator Dodd to site in the Sox owner’s box tonight.
SnarKassandra @ 163
And I thought silly putty was only good for copying the sunday funnies.
LS @ 167
Hmmm…Not so great. Did he explain himself?
Strategerie @ 136
Peterr, I was reading a commenter the other day who said that those who cheered after voting down the SCHIP veto override knew about Jesus, but hadn’t ever met Him, and certainly didn’t listen when He spoke.
I have to believe that there are many who prefer a quieter, more authentic faith, and act accordingly.
I should also say at this point that I apologize in advance to anyone of faith at the Lake if my comments are offensive.
-S
I took no offense, but was noting my similar frustration with those who reduce faith to quoting scripture. Loudly.
Often poorly, too, as DrDick noted at 122.
LS @ 146
yeah, good stuff
jayt @ 53
Fundies goin’ to jail, quite possibly…
The IRS not being exactly known for their sense of humor, ya know…
There does seem to be an awful lot of prohibited inurement going on there. Bye-bye, 501(c)(3) status? Not likely; my former employer tries to avoid blowing up exempt organizations if at all possible, the All Saints case notwithstanding. More likely a BIG bill for Code Section 4975 excise taxes, since there seem to have been more than a few prohibited transactions.
Jail time? That’s not up to the IRS, that’s up to the Criminal Section of the Tax Division at DOJ and the local U.S. attorney. Don’t hold your breath.
BlueStateRedHead @ 170
Why can’t the rest of the pols catch up with the public?
BlueStateRedHead @ 170
very unShilling of them.
I saw Dodd. He was drinking a beer.
The others are getting that Dodd was decisive…let’s remember that he led the way…the others are jumping on the bandwagon. I’m glad they’re jumpin’, but it was his move.
madmommy @ 171
That brought back fond memories – used to do that with my kids and then try to figure out how to get the stuff out of the carpet. I don’t recall that I ever did get it out.
madmommy @ 174
It has elastic properties, but different from the pink erasers from the box.

Actually, I’m a registered republican also. Registered when I was 18 in the same party as my parents. Didn’t really give it much thought. My first presidential ballot was cast for Richard Nixon. Been trying to make amends since.

Peterr, here was an earlier discourse between an atheist and moi…
R. Manhammer @ 36
Ian Welsh @ 28
As an atheist, I’m afraid I must disagree, albeit civilly. :-)
I’ve spent my entire life surrounded by religious people of varying levels of sanity, every one of whom would be terrified of living in a world without their imaginary friend and super hero.
While I recognize that humans aren’t going to outgrow religion any time soon, I still feel no particular obligation to embrace it or to do anything other than speak my truth about it. I read a great deal of history and frankly, I’m sick of the excesses perpetrated in the name of one imaginary super hero or another. Lets let people accept the responsibility for their own actions without the imaginary endorsement of some figment of the lizard brain.
Moi-
As a Baha’i, I would point out that the rejection of each other’s prior faith, and, schism’s within each of them have been the principal source of much of the barbarity.. Acceptance of one another’s belief would certainly have alleviated 99% of the problem…!!! *g*

Night, Peterr!
Peterr @ 155
I spent an hour yesterday talking to the Clerk of the Court. I ran what you pointed out above by her, and she only told me that dealing with how we propose to do the blog is in the hands of Kohring’s attorneys.
As for multimedia a la Libby trial, who knows. I’m Mac, and the only video editing software I have is iMovie, which doesn’t compress files AT ALL. I’m set up very well for sound, because I’m a musician, but, video…?
SnarKassandra @ 180
I took the bare minimum of science and barely passed it. But it was pretty cool how you could stick silly putty on a picture and then stretch it all over. Things ended up looking like a Picasso.

Gonzales could be prosecuted, McKay says
By Bill Morlin
Staff writer
October 20, 2007
The U.S. Inspector General may recommend criminal prosecution of departed Attorney General Alberto Gonzales at the conclusion of an investigation, possibly as early as next month, the fired former U.S. attorney for Western Washington told a Spokane audience Friday.
-Snip-
McKay said he was summoned to Washington, D.C., in June and questioned for eight hours about possible reasons for his firing by investigators with the Office of Inspector General, who will forward their final report to Congress.
“My best guess is it will be released sometime next month,’’ and likely will include recommendations for criminal prosecutions of Gonzales and maybe others, McKay said.

ET- sounds odd that mac iMovie has no compression option. I’m on a PC, and movie editing software allows that.

Right, I forgot about Sanders. This is really great, it makes the whole effort much more believable, esp since the other three aren’t running for prez.
Goodnight, Thers – sleep well.
Great post!
Just sent Pelosi this little note:
Have you lost your mind woman? You should be praising Rep.Pete Stark instead of helping the immoral murderous Bush regime. Get a grip and do the work of the people.
ET – I was able to compress iMovies but it is a pain… you gotta export it to Quicktime and that format uploads to the web.
SnarKassandra @ 201
Cool! Your science class sounds a lot more fun than mine was.
Ed*ard Teller @ 191
Oooo, ET – iMovie has awesome compression capabilities. Let me know and I’ll walk you through them.

I would like someone to explain what they mean when they say that the White House is putting ‘extreme pressure’ on the committee to include immunity. Surely, someone is talking about the behind the scenes stuff. What’s the pressure? Is it blackmail? Threats? Or is it some inside info that they won’t reveal? Why would Whitehouse cave? That’s totally out of character for him. Has any reporter identified what this pressure entails? That’s the question I’d like to hear asked. Someone needs to tell us wtf is going on.

Makes good fake cake icing for stage sets, mixed with stuff, or glaze on its own…
- White Glue
- 1 tablespoon of Borax
- Food coloring
- 1 cup of water
- Empty plastic soda bottle, with cap
- Zipper-lock bag (quart size)
Make the borax water:
Add 1 tablespoon of Borax powder to 1 cup of water. Stir until most of the powder dissolves. Store the borax water in a jar or bottle.
Prepare the glue:
Measure 1 tablespoon of Elmer’s Glue into a zipper-lock bag. Add 1 teaspoon of plain water to the bag and mix. The additional water makes the glue flow better. Add a drop of food colouring to make it look nicer.
Make the putty:
Add just 1 tablespoon of borax water to the bag of watered-down glue. Seal the bag, and squeeze it between your fingers for 2 minutes, in order to thoroughly mix the liquids. The liquids will start to form a putty-like substance. When this has happened, remove the putty from the bag and continue to squeeze it.

That depends on a couple of things. Based on what has been publicly reported to date, if I were the TE/GE (Tax Exempt and Government Entities, one of the four “operating divisions” created in the IRS when it restructured after the 1998 legislation) group manager, I could open 4975 exams on both the entity and the individuals. I wonder if the Oklahoma non-profit corporation statute provides for mandatory indemnification, or if there is D&O insurance, that would shift the burden off the individuals.

Yes, a middle school in Portland (Maine) is giving out condoms to the students. And under Maine law, what they do is confidential, so the parents don’t have to be notified. In the paper today, a Bishop or somebody from the Catholic church called for a criminal investigation. There’s religion being used to cut off an arm, IMO.
LSU goes ahead with a TD with 2 seconds left. Huzzah!!! Auburn goes down to bitter defeat.
SnarKassandra @ 265
Great post and right on target. Abstinence education always works sooo well. That’s why Texas in is in the top 5 for teen pregnancy rates. Whenever you decide to have sex (no hurry there, waiting won’t kill you, no matter how it feels), be smart about it.

That is what comes to my mind as well. I mean, Bush is in no position to exert any kind of legitimate pressure on anyone.
Suz, the error code box is kicking my *ss!!!
Just back in from taking Token on his quest to save the redwoods. Some clear skies in areas obscured by trees and no tree areas had foggy clouds – no shooting stars to be seen here :(
DrDick @ 283
Exactly! And for those who argues it is the parents job, that’s true. But unfortunately some parents are abdicating that responsibility, leaving their kids to get info from peers. At least the school nurse is giving them useful info that may save their lives. No matter how one feels about kids having access to birth control, I do not think that a teen who chooses to have sex without being fully educated should have to die for that choice because they don’t know the facts.
PeterK @ 281
Why stop at a criminal investigation? Can’t we burn a school nurse or two at the stake? Perhaps the archbishop has a rack in the cathedral basement the good folks of Portland could borrow?
These people, I swear.
CTuttle @ 291
CT- have you tried clearing your browser cache?
Thanks LS. This is what is driving me crazy. Nothing is making sense. The Whitehouse cave in was especially surprising. It’s like there is a piece missing from the puzzle. Do you have a link to Rep. Olver’s remarks?

Or get pregnant at 13. Unfortunately, it is all to often the parents of the kids most at risk who are abdicating (may be a causal link there).
SnarKassandra @ 274
See why we need teenage input? I’ll bet you hadn’t considered that your kids might throw it against the wall. Cancel the trip to the store.
Cassie has had a long and stressful day and is very nearly too tired to dive. She skips the long walk up the long ladder and instead dives from the edge of the lake. Nothing spectacular. She gets out, dries off with her own towel, waves good night to everyone, and starts walking home.

Blackmail about private transgressions ignored, now that can get a Clinton impeached.
Blackmail with a threat of war: war crime, even if the President were to find it amusing. If anyone has information about this and is silent, now that is something to be ashamed about.
CT, double check and make sure your caps lock key is not activated

Dear Hearts, we need to remember; the whole fucked up shittaree is a house of cards.
And the beltway democrats are about as freaked out at seeing the house of cards collapse, as are the republicans.
Part of their fear is that “the cottage people” are getting their asses up about the congers basically trying to finish the job of making the U.S., and the world, safe… for government by, for, and of, the Fortune 500.
It’s scary stuff, and they all know that the clustre d’phuque in Iraq is hanging by a thread, and they’re afraid that any loose end the give a little tug to, might be THE thread.
Ergo, moral paralysis.
It’s time to apply the political taser, and get ‘em jump-started. :o)

I will always wonder what Speaker Pelosi meant when she said “Oh, it’s much worse than you could possibly imagine.” I can’t recall the context or the interlocutor, but that statement gave me chills. Prior to Jane Harman, she was on the House Intel Committee, during 911 and immediately after.
jc inOR @ 330
So speculate. What could make Whitehouse go against his basic character? How about Rockefeller? I just can’t believe his motive is money from the telecoms-he has too much of his own to be swayed. I get how BushCo can manipulate his own party (threat of withholding campaign funds, no cushy job after they lose the next election etc.) But what hold does he have when it comes to dems? Or do you think that there is no diff between the 2 parties?
I can’t get past the Whitehouse capitulation.
Is it legal to say a military coup might be welcome?
Late Late Nite upstairs
steve EVfuture @ 311
Ghoulianai and McCain?
sorry, i still believe in the right to choose.

I think instead of any further berating, Nancy should tell anyone who has complaints about Pete Stark’s comments that Politics is not an easy job and Mr. Bush knew that going in. She should say that she sure if he couldn’t take it, he would have taken Chuck Hagel’s advice and become a shoe salesmen. (It would be okay with me if she added that it is, of course, never too late!)
yellowdog jim @ 351
Well, you will only have one of those two to choose from along with Clinton. You can have Coke or Pepsi, dude. The choice is always yours.
One more browncoat here.
Ann in AZ @ 353
Yup. It was Bush who made a big joke along with a video he was proud to show the whole world of him looking under the table for WMDs like they were Easter Eggs. “No WMDs here!” “Out! Out! Damned spot,” he would have better said.
All of the self-high fives that cascaded in November 2006 when the Democrats captured the majority budding with all that potential now look completely tawdry and are a total failure. That’d be Schumer, Emanuel, Hoyer, and Princess Prissy Pusillanimous Pelosi.
It’s always been an aphorism of many talking heads and some comedians that Republicans win but cannot govern. They certainly can out legislate on every important issue that’s come down the pike in the last two years–because the Democrats have been irresponsible and beyond the pale of stupid.
Glenn Greenwald does his usual fine job of analyzing some of the dynamics at Salon.
I don’t think any capitulation, and there have been many–(or to put it another way, when have the Democrats not sold out to Totalitarianism) has been worse or a better metaphor for the brutal fact that this government and your rights are in the toilet, I don’t care how badly Hillary, Edwards, or Obama might beat Rudy 911 in November 2008.
I appreciate Dodd and possibly Biden if they make the effort to fillibuster, and the only two on Senate Intel in the end to stand up to the complete whimps 6 Democrats and all 8 Republicans–that’d be Russ Feingold and Ron Wyden.
I don’t see any way in hell that a Fillibuster can head off cloture or a veto can be overriden. I’d love to see that but I don’t see the numbers with these chicken-hawk Democrats certainly afraid of all Republicans and their own shadow as well.
All that dissing of the Republicans has been nothing but hot air, because when it comes to voting, I’ve never seen tails get between legs faster.
As legislators, the Democrats couldn’t get any worse. They have allowed themselves to be steam rollered on every important votee and confirmation and let’s emaphasize numerically they have the votes now and ironically Republicans rolled over them when they were the minority, and they continue to roll over them consistently when they have the majority, the Chairmanships, and the most votes on every single Committee.
The more important the issue, the more completely the Democrats cave.
That’s been the case in the 109th Congress and crazily, even when they have the numbers and the Committee Chairmen, in the 110th.
The Bill of Rights, and in particular the 4th Amendment have now been truly gutted in a way they have never been in the history of this country, and the Democrats were fully complicit in the gutting.

Joe will be on the ABC gabfest tomorrow; I wonder if Stephagopolis will call ask him to re-state his commitment to the hold and filibuster.
As several commenters pointed on Jane’s thread, there’s no Senator better prepared to filibuster than Joe. I wonder if Dodd will get a word in edgewise.
They’re playin’ us. Ain’t no one else to vote for, so screw ‘em, they say. We’ll jes’ do what the money guys tell us to do. Fuck the electorate, we know if we slap ‘em around they ain’t got nowhere else to go to. Vote for us or vote for the dictator, either way the money guys win.
Last Clinton brought us bombings in Syria and ended welfare as we knew it. What’ll the next one bring?
Tired of feeling played? What’s the option?

Yeah, I don’t know which is worse; the rethugs for constantly acting like the injured party, or the Dems for not calling them out for being WATB. But I do know that Nancy better see her way clear to finding a viable strategy to deal with strength with the Rethugs, or she’s currently encouraging them to repeat this shit on a weekly basis. I suggest just mimicking their whining and making them appear to be weak for a change. While they’re at it, they maybe could find spine enough to let the Protect America Act sunset, telling the public that Democrats were willing to pass a replacement bill, but the Republicans vowed to block anything that would allow the Bill of Rights to remain intact. And the President had declared that he would veto it if it passed, so Dems hands were tied. But she needs to make it clear that the bill died because Dems required that the public’s civil liberties be protected.

“Did Romney’s Machine ‘Gimmick’ The Evangelical Vote”
by cinnamonape (adapted and analyzed from the below article)
http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20…..1020220701
Several thousand Christian conservative and evangelical voters at a massive “Values Voter” conference in Washington rejected Rudy Giuliani Saturday, over his support for abortion rights. Giuliani lagged in eighth, with only 1.85 percent of the vote. Tony Perkins, President of the Family Research Council, which hosted the conference, said he could never support Giuliani, even if he was Republican presidential nominee.
But the real story may lie in the way that Mitt Romney obtained the “endorsement” of the Conference. In the straw poll of 5,775 evangelical voters at the conference and online Romney came out on top, less than 30 votes ahead of former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee.
Romney won the straw poll with 1,595 (27.6%) votes to Huckabees 1,535 (26.5%). Huckabee, a baptist minister, was considered the favorite of social conservatives. The survey appeared to downplay concerns that Romney may be unacceptable to evangelic voters by virtue of his Mormon religion.
However, there is strong evidence the poll may have been susceptible to stacking of online votes by the Romney campaign. Huckabee won 51 percent of votes of 952 people who voted in person at the conference, and Romney took only 10 percent (99 people) of those in attendance. That indicates that 1500 of the pro-Romney votes came from on-line sources, compared to about 600 for Huckabee from internet-votes.
http://www.frcaction.org/
Long-shot Republican libertarian candidate Ron Paul placed third with 865 votes (also predominantly on-line votes…his “in house” support was only 25 votes). Fred Thompson, the actor and former senator who has tried to step into the role of standard bearer for conservatives came a distant fourth.
A recent CBS News survey indicate religious conservatives are not attracted to the 2008 candidates. Over half of white evangelical voters polled wanted more options in the Republican field.
So did the Romney campaign use their non-evangelical and other Campaign resources to bias the “straw-poll”. Well it certainly seems so from this article.
http://weblogs.baltimoresun.co…..value.html
The Romney Campaign encouraged those on its mailing list to participate in the “straw-poll”. It’s also possible that the Campaign Members itself contributed to the polls outcome. It’s clear that Romney needs to suggest to the Christian right that others within the movement are not averse to supporting him. Gimmicking the results of the “Values Voters” poll would serve precisely that function.
Certainly the wide discrepancy between the results on-line vis-a-vis those in attendance hasn’t escaped the eyes of some conservative groups that already found Romney’s ascendance amongst evangelicals and religious conservatives puzzling. But the Mainstream Media have already taken the bait and have suggested that Romney has struck a chord with hard-line Conservative Christians when that doesn’t, in fact, seem to be the case.
The Democrats do their jobs; yet they do not lead.
They punch their clock; but no work gets done.
I see Hillary, Obama; brand names.
Worthless.
The time has come for heroes. Heroes like Dodd and Finegold to stand, to stop the telecom immunity.
A hero to stand again and champion SCHIP.
A hero like Dodd to champion re-birth of Habeus.
A hero to stand and stop torture in yours and yours and my name.
Because in the darkest of nights when all hope is lost – when one can be a good German or stand and be a good American – is when you stop.
And take a stand.
Because you have millions behind you. And all you have in front of you is a small clot of GOP, Faux News and bugfuck crazies.
It is a time for heroes.
Who will stand?
sporkovat @ 143
Sorry, don’t trust an ON-LINE SURVEY. You have to register for participation in an on-line survey! That would mean that most of those who register are on-line poll-watchers. That’s hardly a valid sample. In addition, even if the survey was accurate, the other candidates have nearly equivalent levels of animosity. So I don’t understand the comment about the “win-at-all costs pragmatists”. If the survey was correct the “pragmatists” would support Richardson or Obama….not Hillary or the others who are very close to her level of acceptability.
“Whom would you NEVER vote for for President of the U.S.?
Clinton (D) 50%”
And then there are three clear anti-Iraq War candidates:
“Kucinich (D) 49%; Gravel (D) 47%; Paul (R) 47%”
That’s followed by some pro-war/religious conservatives
“Brownback (R) 47%; Tancredo (R) 46%; McCain (R) 45%; Hunter (R) 44%”
Then “Giuliani (R) 43%; Romney (R) 42%”
Followed by”Edwards (D) 42%; Thompson (R) 41%; Dodd (D) 41%; Biden (D) 40%”
But the persons who have the least of the opposition by this survey were “Obama (D) 37%; Huckabee (R) 35%”
and least offensive of all “Richardson (D) 34%”
Actually the least offensive is some guy named
“Not sure 4%”
That’s who I’m supporting! At least if I base my decisions on who hates the candidates…after all I wouldn’t want to offend anyone.
And I’m not sure how the above survey meshes with the random calling survey done by ABC News/Washington Post Poll. Sept. 27-30, 2007. N=1,114 adults nationwide.
.”If [see below] wins the Democratic/Republican nomination for president would you definitely vote for him/her in the general election for president in 2008, would you consider voting for him/her or would you definitely not vote for him/her?”
Hillary Clinton 41% (Survey on 4/12-15/07 45% Definitely Would Not)
John Edwards 43% (Survey on 4/12-15/07 35% Definitely Would Not)
Rudy Giuliani 44% (Survey on 4/12-15/07 40% Definitely Would Not)
John McCain 45% (Survey on 4/12-15/07 47% Definitely Would Not)
Barack Obama 39% (Survey on 4/12-15/07 36% Definitely Would Not)
Mitt Romney 57% (Survey on 4/12-15/07 54% Definitely Would Not)
Fred Thompson 54%
That, more random survey, shows that all the major candidates (with the exception of Barack Obama), including Edwards, actually have higher negatives than Hillary. And Hillary shows that unlike most of the other candidates her “negatives” are going down, not up.
I will support a more explicit anti-War candidate in the Primary…not Hillary. But the idea that she has such high “negatives” isn’t a reasonable reason for me not to support her and support another candidate. I wouldn’t support her in the Primary even if her negatives were LOWER than one of my more favored candidate s(which is suggested by the above survey).
I suspect that a lot of that “Won’t Vote” for…is how people feel about supporting candidates in a Primary…and will moderate in head-to-head comparisons in the General election. That would be true of progressives who oppose Hillary, as well as social conservatives that oppose Rudy.
Oh darlin it is not just you. We had a governor’s race in Louisiana today.
One of the political pundits locally said there has been a huge increase in….wait for it….
INDEPENDENT registrations among….wait for it…
THE YOUNG people of our state.
We may be trending Rethug, but I am guessing that this trend is not just here. We had an independent candidate for Gov. former Republican and two Democratic challengers. Jindal won with 53% at last look.
So who elected him? I am guessing a bunch of independents who are pissed at the Dem Gov. Blanco but not too pissed at George Bush not to vote for Jindal.
If you want to win something you have to bloody well stand for something. The base is going to stay home if you stand for nothing. What is the fing point? Stand for something!
I hear crickets.
I hear chances of Democratic victory being flushed down the crapper!
I hear the Constitution being torn to shreds and starting a new wave of third party activism being focused on the Constitution!
I hear the true conservatives and the libertarians and the liberals banding together to protect the constitution when the Democratic and Republican parties would not. Maybe puttin the nail in both of their coffins.
Whichever candidate of either party pledges to stand up for the consititution I will support. Period. I am a die hard Dem, but this is the Constitution we are talking about!
Hillary and gang better not take the base for granted. Do this at your peril. So you are polling nominally above the Rethugs a year out. Whoopty do. Stand for something.
DrDick @ 259
Perhaps, threaten to nuke Iran if he doesn’t get his way?
You can’t. They have you by the balls because they know you don’t want Giuliani.
We sent a $50 donation. $50 to Filibuster! As well as an email thanking him and Feingold…Enough is TRULY Enough!!
madmommy @ 26
Thers, great rant. I’m down with it.
I’m dyin for a little rage and some PHREAKIN BATTLE ACTION from our dem’s . . . something that REMOTELY phreakin resembles a phrellin progresive state of mind.
Your post, and theme, needs to be hammered over and over, we are ALL out here in the US Of A WAITING for someone, SOME PHRELLIN HERO, to stand up to the bullies AND the wussies in our own ranks, and LEAD!!!
PHREAKIN LEAD AND WE WILL FOLLOW GLADLY!!!!
And I’d guess, if the gay community at large (males and females and transg’s) would just come to jeebus and UNITE behind something progressive, along with the rest of us out here DYING for change, we’d be a formidable force . . .
And perhaps, Thers, as you imply, . . . it’s time for a third party.
The two we got dont’ cut it for me one MICRON of a sliver of good thin sushi . . . ;-)
I tell you this, America, this Larue is gonna do some HINKY wierd ass voting come this CA Primary, and the General Erection.
And I don’t buy into this fractured crap that the pub’s will benefit from my rage against my OWN party (which it ain’t, I went to ‘Declined To State’ . . ) . . . so.
War on!!! Lemme SEE yer cards, panzies . . . time to fight back!
Harumph.
Tanbark @ 345
Hoss, have I hugged you lately, in public? *G*
Damn, Tan . . . I’m JUST starting to pull it together, and there you go, summin it up like Sunday Dim Sum I could never make.
It’s GOOD though!!! *G*
All the ruling elite 1% are pretty phreakin scared, methinks.
But history shows this is what happens when the wealth condenses up, and don’t trickle down . . . either the elite collapse, or, in the short term, violence controls the masses . .
Ultimately, it all comes crashing down, to be rebuilt, often repeating the mistakes of the past, occasionally, VERY occasionally, perhaps rebuilt to move the species forward . . .
I won’t hold my breath on THIS one . . . thank DAWG for Putin and China, they MAY be the one thing along with Fallon and the JCS and a few others keeping us from WW3.
GO BOSTON!!!! SCHILLING ROCKS!!
Damn but I fear Dice-K opening up tomorrow . . . Westbrook has been awesome for The Tribe . . .
Break out the mesquite grilled shrimp taquito’s and the Black Beers.
And some Baked Beans would be good too . . . candles and incense for Teh Sox might be in order, mefears . . .
Come 2008, I aim to misbehave.
Might I suggest something quite radical and unexpected? Try this on for size: Re-register as a Republican.
Ok, wait…hold it, don’t attack me (yet), hear me out. I’m suggesting a *temporary* registration with the GOP to vote for Ron Paul in the primaries, you can change right back after that.
Why would you do this? To spilt the GOP into harmless and impotent bits, for one. His antiwar stance would drive pro-war Thugs out of their minds and leave them nowhere to go. His anti-choice stance would be attractive to the the “religious” Right but his his anti-drugwar policies would cause them to “trip out”. There’s no third party for them to go to at the moment so, tuff shite to all of them, eh?
As to what a Hillary-Paul race would look like….he’d force the “let’s bomb Iran” princess to adopt an antiwar stance (not a bad thing, eh) and his love of constitutional rights would force her to make her own commitments in this regard.
All and all, it’s a win/win situation, so do the unthinkable and register to vote with the GOP…they won’t know what hit them!!!
Stark needs to IGNORE the Pelosaurus!!! What’s she going to do…. cancel nap time? Please. He needs to NOT apologize. This is an opportunity for someone to pick up this truth ball and run with it….. dammit.
When they stick the mic in Starks face he needs to repeat what he said. He better not apologize!
The Congressional “Leadershit” needs to be issuing some apologies to US though! Nancy, kick that off will ya.
Firefly! You referenced Firefly!
I now heart you twice.
We cannot make the same stupid mistake the Naderists made in 2000. We MUST support the Democrats. Even if the leadership is cowardly now, we must continue to push them, and push them some more. If we leave, or threaten to leave, we are a fringe. But we are not. We are the center.
If the choice in November 2008 comes down to voting for a republican or voting for a democrat who acts like a republican, I’ll stay home like the other 70% or so of registered voters usually do. I see no reason to waste my time. Democratic “strategists” may find out the hard way next year.
DrDick
Thanks for the link ORU! Made my morning.
Sporkovat @143:
Good stuff, on Clinton’s electability, or lack thereof. :o)
Handing her the nomination on a beltway-and-MSM greased platter will be the kiss of death for us.
And conversely, keeping the nominating process open throughout the primaries is the single most important thing we can do, to take advantage of the opportunity for a landslide of historic proportions.
We need to keep this open; to keep asking the tough questions of all of ‘em, and to make every primary count.
Reid, Pelosi, Rockefeller, Obama, Clinton…all of them…they do not represent us. Witness Rockefellers campaign contributors and that feckless bill his committee threw up last week.
Dems issue subpoenas that are ignored and they do nothing. Obama teams up with a religious right nutcase on a crusade of “purpose, not violence” against gays. Clinton won’t withdraw troops till sometime after 2013?
I will vote for Dodd/Edwards simply because Dodd has chosen to stand up for the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, privacy and the rule of law. Let the telecoms fight it out in court…that is why we have courts, no?
Pelosi has taken impeachment off the table. Why? In the face of the most lawless administration in this nation’s history and she does nothing. I guess if GW got a hummer in the West Wing and lied about it, she wouldn’t see that as grounds for impeachment either…but it was good enough for the repukes.
I fear this country will never recover from this debacle. What is needed is a netroots, grassroots movement to garnish enough support to have people not pay taxes. Might be worth a try, instead of screeching at those bought off political hacks that currently is the democratic leadership and political machine. Screw those gutless turds.
I sent Dodd 50. He is the only one making a stand with integrity. The presumptives have their heads up thier asses. Dodd is LEADING.
You said it.
What depresses me is that any of these are even issues. Why cast a vote that’s clearly wrong and where there’s no political upside, either? With the FISA bill, there’s sucking up to wealthy telecoms, but at the risk of alienating a large section of voters, and on some other issues, donors aren’t even a factor. Congress is unpopular right now because they’re not opposing Bush enough.
NMvoiceofreason @ 355
Mal for president!
DrDick @ 40
And that’s a GOOD thing! I sent him $, too. Great rant, thers.
I’m ready for a STOP HILLARY coalition NOW! The DLC must die. It must be:
Time for some thrillin’ heroics…
