And Glenn Beck’s show goes from merely shitty to really creepy:
BECK: OK, Michael, sex preventative? Does it prevent sex from 11- year-olds?
MICHAEL GRAHAM, FORMER GOP CONSULTANT: Hey, you know, parents are going to beat up and abuse their children. I say we just give them Band- Aids and helmets so they don`t do any long-term damage while it`s going on, because you can`t stop it.
This is the dumbest thing I`ve ever heard. There`s no crime you can prevent completely, but it is impossible, Glenn — and believe me, I`ve tried — to touch an 11-year-old kid sexually and not commit a crime. This is criminal behavior.
And I`ve read 500 stories on this today. Not one of them uses the phrase “sexual assault,” which is what the state of Maine calls it when an 11-year-old is having sex.
I just…I’m speechless.

Jane!
zed?
ooh, so close…
I’ve done a lot of shit in my life but I have never, NEVER, tried to touch an 11-year-old kid sexually.
Jane, WTF is that?
Beck should be in the unemployment line, and they should give his slot to you, Marcy, CHS and Digby. Four smart women talking about what REALLY matters. What’s not to like?
“believe me I’ve tried”???? Talk about quotes you regret… geez
???????!!!!!!
*blink blink* What did you just say?
Wait a sec:
He’s tried to touch an 11-year-old kid sexually and not commit a crime?
Does he really know what he’s saying??!!? Some of us were trained in grad school to do semiotic analysis of statements.
Good ‘Ol Glen Beck will self destruct, taking with him CNN, too. Can’t believe they’d give this guy a platform to vomit out his intellect. If the Fairness Doctrine comes back he’ll become a memory that will not last long. Thanks Jane for all you’re doing with FISA.
He’s done or made reference to sexually inappropriate things on the radio and TV in the past. There must be a list somewhere. Every time I see Blech’s picture, I’m reminded of this other creepy guy….
What in the world? Where can we find video of this?
Why does this not surprise me at all?
The question is: Does Beck do what Rush does, and take trips to underage-sex hotbeds like the Dominican?
Is Best Buy still sponsoring his show? I quit shopping there a while back because of Beck and I haven’t missed the place at all.
Any hackers out there who can put a NMBLA link on the RNC web site?
That is, if they don’t have one there already?
Now that I have picked up all the french fries and cleaned off my monitor,
What kind of crap is that?
Did he misspeak?
If not, thats just creepy, and to say it on TV?
leinie @ 5
I think someone in the 109th Congress snuck a provision in somewhere that stated that all so-called cable news networks have to maintain at least one low rated program as wing nut welfare. CNN has Beck while MSNBC has Tuckery. Faux Noise doesn’t have to worry because that’s most of the network.
Like him or not Ted Turner would never tolerated Glenn Beck having a CNN platform – or so I dare hope and trust.
i sent this story to jane, and i monitor glenn beck every night.
a key sponsor of his is Select Comfort you should contact them and ask them if they support pedophilia, since Beck didnt say one word about Graham’s statement during or after. and his show isnt live so it could have been edited out or something.
He should be a shoe in for Keiths WPITW.
I really hope that the mystic physicists are right and there really are alternate universes out there.
These people make my hair hurt.
The Portland School Trustees decided that there is a pregnancy problem in their middle schools. So they decided to allow girls (with their parents permission) access to their oral contraceptives at school. By the way, the parents have to grant permission for the girls to have birth control pills in the first place. These middle schools have students as young as 11, but as old as 15.
Apparently in Wingnut Universe, it is better for girls to get pregnant than to use birth control pills. We already know that in Wingnut Universe it is better for a child to have an unwanted baby than to have an abortion. And apparently in Wingnut Universe, it is better for girls not to talk with their parents about matters sexual.
I want to be transferred into the Universe where President Al Gore is finishing up his second term in office, where the Chimperor was never in a position to invade Iraq, and where school trustees are not excoriated by wingnuts for taking action in the best interest of their communities.
BC
Is that an admission? Or is it just a badly constructed sentence?
Wingnuts: potential pedocphiles and not fluent in their native tongue.
Here’s Blech making weird sexually explicit comments on TV. One of many…
I’m pained to say that I’ve had the *pleasure* of listening to Michael Graham here in Boston on 96.9 (NO, THIS IS NOT A PLUG FOR HIM) and he IS Glen Beck “light”!. truly a moron. I’m sure other posters here from Mass. know what I’m talking about. Has the same habit of getting pissy w/ callers who debate him on the air (the few who don’t get filtered out of course)
J A C K A S S !!!!!!!!!!!!
WTF!!!!
and beck has a SHOW! go figure….another idiot let loose on the airwaves and yet WE cant get a spot…..
close -374 points
well, that explains how Mark Foley and John Kyl lasted so long doing what they do.
I don’t think the issue is whether or not the 11-yr old sixth graders have access to birth control, but whether the 15-year old 8th graders have it.
I went to the school in question (King) and I can tell you there were plenty of 14 year olds having sex (and that was a long time ago – one can only imagine now). One or two will get pregnant. And in high school, even more will.
There are a LOT of immigrant children at that school, which is another issue.
Bargain Countertenor @ 20
leave that portal open, I’m jumping in too!
Bustednuckles @ 7
‘Believe me, I’ve tried’ refers to ‘no crime you can prevent completely’. (Ignore the proximity of ‘to touch…’!!!)
I believe you, Michael. Really, I do.
OT, but I haven’t seen nearly enough here in the way of congratulations to Fitz regarding his impending marriage to a 34 year old teacher (he’s 46.) Personally, I’m hoping it proves to be a match made in heaven for them both. But where are the resounding best wishes from his fans?
Chris from Maine @ 19
Done.
Thanks, Chris.
Bargain Countertenor @ 19
So, when these children have children, they and their offspring will not have access to pre- or post-natal health care under SCHIP?
If you find that parallel universe, please, please take me with you.
Ann in AZ @ 31
Everybody’s jealous.
spurious @ 35
Except Glenn Beck. She’s way too old for him…
Biodun @ 9
Or at least think before we say something! Oh, you mean other people’s statements.

While I agree that Glenn “I’m stupid, so sue me” Beck is pretty near the bottom of the barrel, I think what we really have here is a mis-transcribed sentence.
See if this transcription (mine) makes sense:
I’m not saying we should ever give Glenn “I’m stupid, so sue me” Beck and his Repug friends a pass, but I myself would not take that official CNN transcript as evidence of anything other than a royally stupid fucked up transcription.
It may also simply be an old-fashioned Freudian slip from Michael Graham, in which case it’s even worse.
In any case, law-enforcement authorities should begin investigating him immediately.
birth control = gateway drug to sex
sex = out of control females
Just left the sponsor a blistering demand that they cancel sponsorship of Beck immediately. Here is their customer relations linky:

raven @ 36
Now raven, just when the hell did someone like Glenn Beck ever think for the FIRST time?
I’m confused…
“There`s no crime you can prevent completely, but it is impossible, Glenn — (and believe me, I`ve tried) to touch an 11-year-old kid sexually and not commit a crime. This is criminal behavior.”
Isn’t he saying he tried to prevent it (the crime from happening)…I don’t think he’s saying he tried to touch an 11 year-old kid sexually…
Or, am I misreading this completely.
This is way wrong! You guys are not being nice at all!
marymccurnin @ 41
god forbid
mc @ 33
That is correct. And they will then incur extremely expensive NICU care (that they can’t pay for and the costs of which get passed on to the rest of us), and protest to the nurses “But I quit smoking as soon as I got pregnant” (and even if that were true – and it’s usually not – that’s the extent of their pre-natal care). I’ve seen this with my own eyes many times.
But hey, $2K per day for a week at the NICU, plus food stamps and welfare and other social services, never mind if the kid has actual problems and needs lifelong services from the state – that’s all cheap compared to the cost to society of appearing to approve of their sexual behavior, right (plus the cost of the pills)?
LS @ 44
I don’t see it that way but then again I have my own bad feelings about eleven.
Elliott @ 48
Yeah..me too.
LS @ 44
If you have your own program on the TV then you should be unambiguous.
marymccurnin @ 40
You left out very curious and determined males.
Mad Dogs @ 38
You have a point. But I have to hear the audio before I agree with you.
Michael Graham is a talk radio guy in Boston. He moved here from South Carolina and immediately attacked Governor Patrick, Massachusetts public school teachers, Ted Kennedy, John Kerry and more. I called the station and asked him, on air,
“Then why did you move here?”
He has four children and calls his lovely wife, the Warden.
As much as I dislike this tasteless man, I am pretty sure he misspoke.
marymccurnin @ 50
Without a doubt, I agree.
Glenn Beck, the remedial school tinkertoy XY version of Ann Coulter, saying or promoting something steel-crushingly stupid on his video burlesque is like the sun rising in the East…
But this is a new setting for his ever-lowering bar of ‘acceptable televised discourse’.
I am stuck on Band Aids because MICHAEL GRAHAM is stuck on me…….. and Glenn Beck likes to watch.
Biodun @ 52
That is what I was thinking, that it is odd in the way it was transcribed, and the meaning was perhaps changed. I don’t know. The whole thing is ridiculous.
Mad Dogs @ 39
I hate Beck but I agree w/ the above interpretation of the transcript!!
glenn beck is “media friendly”… this must be the reason he has a show……good excuse as any…..
It’s the helmets and bandaids I find really creepy…he just has a terrible way with words.
Just when you think they’ve touched bottom, the tectonic plates shift and the trench deepens.
I’m gonna give even glen the benefit of the doubt, if I may, the punctuation that would make sense;
that last sentence is a non sequetor, an incomplete sentence, should probably read;
“[it’s impossible] To touch an 11-year-old kid sexually and not commit a crime. This is criminal “
I need to actually see the video, or perhaps as someone above me said, there needs to be a question mark after “crime”
I understand the point though, that being glen needs to engage his brain before he moves his mouth
by the way, i watched this on television, didnt just read the transcript. i was taken aback when he said it on TV, so it isnt just the transcript, trust me.
Tom @ 61
Ironic choice of words above…
we did have a 2.5 magnitude earthqquake this morning in Mass.!!! Maybe it was under Glen’s and Michael Grahams house!?!?!?
Boston1775 @ 53
Didn’t matter when Kerry misspoke did it?
Graham made the argument this morning that if you’ve decided that you can’t prevent child abuse, just bandage them up after each incident.
If you’ve decided you can’t prevent underage drinking, then the school nurse should be allowed to dispense aspirin for the hangover.
This is the essence of the man: if he can out-talk you, and he has all the control, then he’s right. If he puts up a line of logic like that, and the caller does not dismantle it, he’s won and he’s right.
Forget the fact that kids experiment with sex, and the purpose of the program is to prevent STDs and pregnancy.
He’s sure that it’s another attack on the families of the right wing.
when one has no conscience its easy to sink to depths unknown….and these family values folks have proven they don’t mind sinking……imo
drinksforall @ 64
Any Murray mines up there?
Ordinarily, I’m of the, “Give ‘em enough rope,” opinion with the sort of insipid tripe this Beck person seems capable of putting forth. Unfortunately, there must be an audience for the idiotic rationale emanating from the man’s pie hole. He claims to just be saying what everybody’s thinking — which is obviously false — but somebody must be thinking it, if only his producers at CNN. Well, at least the man serves two purposes while he continues to be given a forum:
one) there is never a question as to what the talking points are, intended for the easy digestion and regurgitation of the weak minded lemmings in the conservative world. The pablum he spouts IS the quintessential crap of the moment, handed down from the masters on high; and that’s good to know. It saves time and energy.
two) I’m going to be in the market for a bed soon and the question between sleeping on a roulette wheel of air compression or that Swedish memory foam that caresses your butt was going to be a tricky one. ‘Nother problem solved! Thanks Becky!
raven @ 63
You’re right, raven. I don’t even know why I am trying to be fair or impartial. I sincerely dislike the man and the radio station that puts him and another horrible person on-air everyday to attack Massachusetts.
They pushed and pushed and pushed George Bush. And as far as I’m concerned, they have the blood of this presidency on their hands.
Protect Free Speech — On Phones, the Internet, Everywhere!
Graham made the argument this morning that if you’ve decided that you can’t prevent child abuse, just bandage them up after each incident.
The response to that is to say sure, that’s a great analogy…but your response is then to withhold bandages
I just stole this link from a Kos diary that basically only had the link and a comment. Note the picture…kinda looks like a house in the Homeland, doesn’t it….????:

LS @ 44
No, I agree that he was saying he’s tried to prevent a crime from happening. Unfortunate sequence of words, though.
No political consultant is going to admit to molesting eleven-year olds on national TV. He just didn’t construct a sentence correctly, something that’s not unheard of in verbal communications – just ask John Kerry.
I’m more offended by the “helmets and bandaids” line, personally. Maybe whatever measure they were discussing wouldn’t be all that effective, but there are things that can be done to mitigate the problem that are more effective than issuing helmets to every child who shows up at Family Services.
Google “Michael Graham” pedophiles
and you get 622 hits.
Someone’s obsessed with something. Just sayin’.
johnSwifty @ 69
Just don’t forget to call the high-dollar air mattress folk and let them know why they fell out of consideration.
Mrs. Countertenor and I bought a Swedish memory foam mattress about 18 months ago. You’ll love it.
BC
Jeeze, you guys are pathetic. What is the full context of the discussion?
I honestly try to give the people here the benefit of the doubt, but you latch onto something like this?!? Of course it sounds bad, but let’s read the rest of it. This was probably a 10 minute discussion on Beck’s show, you pick out about 10 seconds of it.
You all are smarter than this. And by the way, it is not right when anyone does this (conservative and liberal alike). All it does is promote hatred among all of us, and skews the issues we should be paying attention to.
Kurt @ 83
Ummm, now Kurt, would you ’splain to me exactly how referring to the FDLers here as pathetic raises the level of discourse?
This is an issue that we all should be paying attention to. Beck and Graham deliberately chose the most inflammatory possible interpretation of the events in Portland. Not too dissimilar from how the Prezichimp mischaracterized the SCHIP bill when he vetoed it for his friends in the tobacco biz…
So, if you want to raise the level of discourse, it might be meet to start by not insulting your readers.
BC
ive updated my post (linked above) with the video in queston.
To me, that transcript snip comes across as confessing to a criminal act.
Hope Law Enforcement was listening…..but that may be too much to ask.
It seems like he started two thoughts, got halfway through each before finishing both sentences. I’m guessing he meant:
If he didn’t mean the above, then he’s certainly mentally ill.
- Tom
We live in a crazy world where the likes of glenn, rush, neal, michael, sean, ann and the rest of the slime are given, ad nauseum, a public forum with which to spew.
Kurt @ 83, what is pathetic is that they are the ones spreading hate and divisiveness, and are paid to do so.
What is also pathetic, is the fact that they have an audience.
Hate to be pissy, but it’s NOT preventAtive. It’s preventive. Sort of like orientate. Doesn’t exist as a word. Just sayin’…
That is such a “pull my finger” picture.
A genuine issue is that middle school starting at 6th grade is just plain wrong. Being 12 years old and at the bottom of the pecking order is bad enough. To put 11 year olds there is worse. But knowing that would require a tiny thimble of real-world knowledge. Beck is too busy fantasizing.
Hey, you guys don’t understand. When you’re growing up on the farm in Georgia…
oops, wrong sexually perverted wingnut.
