I’m calling everybody I know tonight who might e-mail, call or write a postcard to Dodd, or their own reps in support of Dodd’s hold and request that the FISA issues be debated out in the open with recorded votes -so we at least will know who is caving on amnesty. I also said in my e-mail to Dodd that I wanted ‘basket warrents’ out, or if cannot be eliminated entirely, only lawful under very restricted and well defined cirmcumstances with court oversight. And at least get that issue debated in public too, with recorded votes so we can see who caves, who stands up for the basic principles of our government and society on each of those two issues.

Too bad that it looks like Feinstein won’t stand up. She can vote the way she wants -nothing her constituents say to her seems to make much difference on some issues, but at least she will have to go down in history with her vote. Rockafeller and the rest of the cavers too.

wesgpc – dodd could even use holt’s bill for a pretty decent example of what a fisa bill should look like (pow wow has recommened a couple of changes – so i’m not claiming perfection). holt is on the house intelligence committee (so he knows what changes may be needed) and he wrote the bill with a couple of other committee members and consulted with the aclu.

the holt bill was the one the aclu was supporting.

I’ve got an idea: Sen. Dodd should announce that he’ll release his “hold” when the Russ Holt version of the FISA modernization bill is released from committee and forwarded to the floor with equal priority to the @%!#&**! Restore Act for a vote. The Holt bill is much better, and deserves a hearing and a vote on the floor.

I am reading “Bobby and J Edgar” by Burton Hersh. It covers lots of territory including how Joe Kennedy accumulated his cash. The corruption outlined, including Kennedy’s 1960 campaign, is breathtaking. For what it’s worth Hersh sees Kennedy’s assassination as a cooperative effort by the mob and people in government who covered its tracks. There’s no reason to believe the mob isn’t as involved in today’s politics as it was in 1960.
