In their “Conventional Wisdom Watch” feature, Newsweek rates multiple topics each week with an up or down arrow. This week’s biggest losers include Ben Stiller aaaaaaaand…
Welcome to the party, Newsweek. You don’t know the half of what’s gone sour in that woman’s mental refrigerator.
Perhaps the poor dear will take this opportunity to take some time off and rest before she completely melts down her motherboard.

Great picture!!
LS @ 2
yup!
Ha Ha! /nelson
It’s about time a traditional media publication got on board. Malkin is a sick human being. Great picture by the way.
Gore got an “up” arrow…
I watched the Norwegian broadcast, and Gore just said, “I have no plans to become a candidate, I am running a different kind of campaign”.
Afternoon, kids!
How is everyone?
Sorry to be off topic, but wish to thank the contributors to the Blue America PAC – Jane, Howie, Christie, TRex and all of you who supported the efforts to phone the five Dems who voted against SCHIP. NC Dems Mike McIntyre and Bob Etheridge – two of the targeted Dems – have decided to vote to override Bush’s veto of SCHIP. Those of us in NC thank you. We appreciate the help.
Hi, TRex, whazzup? Did you hear that the Restore legislation to update FISA was to be amended by Rethugs, but now they’re postponing the vote?
Great to hear Malkin seems to have overplayed her hand!
The entire hoo hah of the last two weeks summed up in two sentences.
Too bad they didn’t mention the hatchet job on the TWO year old.
Disgusting piece of backwash from a douchebag anyway.
OT
Turkey Border problem
Mukasey hearing
Dalai Lama medal up on PBS NewsHour
Dude, WTF is up with this Armenian genocide resolution in Congress? Were they not getting enough mileage out of baseball steroids?
TRex @ 13
Let’s just irk everyone we know.
Ann in AZ @ 9
I”d like to see something about Rush’s latest threat. New York magazine seems to think they know who it is.
I’d like Limbaugh to be take n to the woodshed on that one.
Trex, If anyone ever had to much fun crafting a blog post.. this must be one of those times..)
What a hoot!
Betsy Muse @ 8
Yes, most worthy of praise for all the hard work!
LS @ 6
Sounds like a solid “maybe” to me…
I just saw that in Newsweek this morning awaiting jury duty. LOL. Thought of you, TRex!
What is 4th Branch up to? Strangely absent.
Let’s see, Russia says don’t attack Iran.
Turkey says let’s attack Iraq.
China says don’t be nice to the Dalai Lama.
FISA is on hold.
I hear Ari Fleischer and his group are going to really ramp up the $200 million campaign to bomb Iran….yeah, 4th Branch must be burning the midnight oil to get that baby birthed.
Malkin will reap what she has sown.
Good luck to her.
Now how about the appeal to anti-semitism by Coulter. It is an historic way to provoke attacks on Jews.
Happy Birthday Loo Hoo!!!
Trex, I think they had a bunch of the Armenians from CA writing them (it’s a large minority group), and then they found out what Turkey would do if it went through. Not that they shouldn’t already have known about Turkey’s reaction (and Turkey certainly knows what it did back then, even though it was a different government at the time).
What?
Another birthday?
YOO HOO ,LOO HOO!
Happy Birthday!
LS @ 6
I love that he got an up arrow! And yes, he is running a different kind of campaign! (I know he says it’s not an election campaign, but I think it could be a winning election campaign to bypass pundits and political consultants and go directly to the people.) I love it that he has his own platform into folks homes. I love the fact that a lot of folks claim they have already formed boots on the ground type of campaign workers in most states. And they’re already trying to collect money through the two cents committments. With all that work, I don’t think he’d be nearly as far behind as the pundits are trying to indicate.
TRex @ 13
Two things can stop the Iraq war and the impending Iran war, in their tracks.
1. Turkey yanking military base cooperation.
2. Iraq throwing out all contractors.
What Limbaugh threat, Toby?
LS @ 20
Good summary! we don’t need no stink’n MSM!
Happy Birthday LooHoo!!! Wow, a lot of people have October birthdays around here. Libras, figures.
P J Evans @ 23
I heard one report that put it all down to Adam Schiff’s (D-CA) district that had a strong Armenian constituency and he had a tough re-election.

Happy Birthday to Loo Hoo!!!

My theory on the prior thread is that they are trying to let the Executive Branch know they are still relevant and perfectly capable of being a thorn in their side.

Has the House voted on SCHIP yet?
If not, does anyone know when the vote is scheduled?
will corporate media actually take up their charge?

media will fall with our republic, perhaps they begin to understand?
Thanks, guys!
Boston1775 @ 21
I often wonder if Malkin or Coulter or even Rush will ever suffer consequences for their actions and not just get richer from them. Then again, the Bush Wing of Hell may get more reservations every day.
Boston1775 @ 21
Sorry, Boston – can’t reply now…I’m busy trying to get perfected (snark).
These people can never overplay their hands. No matter how mean they are, they manage to do themselves one worse every time. Then MSM repeats it. There’s no way any normal human being can overcome the poisonous combination of hate-filled Rs & MSM.
LS @ 20
I shudder to think that is surely his intent, before he leaves office.
Betsy Muse,
You’re welcome. I called those four congressmen, among others, several times over the last 2 weeks. I sort of apologized for calling from outside of their districts and said, My congressman is for this, but it’s not going to work if you all aren’t going to vote for it.
And my kid needs this so vote for it!
Talk about lobbying…;)
LS @ 26
I heard this theory, and it seems far too clever to be intentional. But if it works, I’m for it.

Excusez moi…Scorpio here tyvm!

The blogs are the 4th estate. Corporate media is what it is.
Lots of serious stuff coming to a head today. Reminds me of PAA day. Smells like wrestling factions backstage. I am watching the news closely.
Hmmm.

Led by Lantos, that well known FOI (Friend of I*rael). Same phenomenon. We’re right, no matter what, and to hell with whether it’s good for the U.S. or not. True believers, just as much as the neocons. In fact, many of them probably are neocons.

Another happy birthday to Loo Hoo!;-)
Hi back to you, Elliot. After I got my wireless internet fixed, my whole computer died–motherboard (whatever that is) bit the dust. Luckily you can physically remove the hard drive & buy a device to plug it into the new computer, so I didn’t lose any data, but it’s taken awhile to get all Humpty’s pieces put back together again. And since the weather’s been so nice in the NE, computer repair took a backseat to spending time outdoors.
Something curious Bush said today as he feigned knowledge of Putin’s warning about military action toward Iran…he said, something like, “Putin said US military action?”…and then he said that during their recent meeting Putin agreed that Iran should not be a nuclear power. So, that makes me wonder about the potential “practice” run in the bombing of Syria by Israel.
Loo Hoo. @ 27
Limbaugh made a lot of noise this week about how he threatened a journalist who had done a piece on him, using the words,’… But there was a cover story on me coming out of one of the big news magazines, and it was going to totally mischaracterize me and what I do and how I do it. And we found out who was writing it and made a couple phone calls to the person writing it. And we said, “You know what? We’re going to find out where your kids go to school…”
Just really disgusting threats, innuendos, filth. And crowing about how the guy changed the story and made it a lot…mmm…less hard hitting, shall we say. What Limbaugh was exulting about was the fact that he’d threatened and intimidated this guy enough to make him get scared enough to change a story.
New York magazine has a story out; they think they know who it was and why he got threatened –

Scorpio here. Be careful what you say about us. We’re very emotional.
Court may move against White House
There’s a story for ya…
Elliott @ 22
Birthday? Congratulations! I remember 40 like it was yesterday.
Was I too busy to notice
or did the Coulter thing seem to just go away?
I agree with Badwater and I like Toby’s snark. But Coulter had the nerve to talk to a Jew about Jews in a way that has roots in racial scapegoating and worse.
eCAHNomics @ 47
That is one curious twist in this story. IIRC, Israel has a history of intentionally evading calling out Turkey on its act of Armenian genocide..
Now that’s a funny image…Not like that ‘darkblack’ and his/her/whatever’s arty pretensions.
;>)
I thought Newsweek reported news. Malkin augering into the Canyon of Permanent Irrelevance at Mach 5, well…Not exactly ‘film at 11′ material.
TRex,
Well, honey, I’m an Aries. (Could ya tell?0
We’re Way More Fun to argue with.
You can fight with Libras all day long and never get Anywhere.
In my opinion, anyway.

eCAHNomics @ 52
glad you didn’t lose any bits or bytes !
Great time to be outside! hate to be losing the power of the sun to the Tropic of Capricorn.
Well, as Marcy (I believe) pointed out, they didn’t quite nail it — it should have read “Heartless highest-traffic right-wing blogger, Fox News commentator, and sometime major-newspaper op-ed writer attacks 12-year-old brain-injury victim over insurance.”
There are plenty of right-wing bloggers who don’t have her connections and acceptance by supposedly mainstream figures; it’s unfortunate that they chose to gloss over that.
Happy, happy BDay, LooHoo!
And TRex – congrats on the hunt. Looks like two downed by your side – and counting.
Great work.

I was pleased when our local #2 newspaper dropped the Coultergeist column.
I was not pleased when they replaced it with MalKKKin’s.

Margot @ 40
Thank you Margot. We still have a growing online community in NC and we did our best with calls and emails. We just needed a bit of help.
Redshift @ 64
I would argue the opposite. By reducing her to simply “heartless right wing blogger”, Newsweek is drawing a protective cordon around her. She’s got pretensions at mainstream respectability, but ultimately, she can’t survive outside the sewer-y confines of Fox and her own blog.
eCAHNomics @ 55
And you got a stinger!

Has she put any of the Frost-stalking into her print column? In any case, it sounds like this could be an opportunity to write to them about correcting the error of their ways.

I must be taking FDL for granted and assuming that they’ll live bog everything, so imagine my disappointment this morning that there are no top posts about the Mukasey hearing at all! So what’s a poor late-arriving Firepup at work to do? I can’t scan the comments in half a dozen top posts on other topics to find the pearls, because I don’t have time. Can someone please help point me to some good commentary on the hearings so far? I also hear that these hearings might go on for as many as 3 days!

Gemini, here. Clever, verbal, friendly.
Here’s a typo-ridden article that discusses Israel leaves Armenian genocide up to historians & some Jews who violently disagree.
http://www.genocidewatch.org/r…..pril05.htm
It may be that Israel wants to avoid pissing off every Muslim country in its neighborhood.
Regardless of the truth of the underlying event, there’s no reason for Congress to be bringing it up at this time. True stupidity, even if it’s a convoluted scheme to stop the war.
One of the main problems with the VN anti-war movement was that they did stupid things that ended up prolonging the agony because they periodically lost credibility for the movement. I hope we aren’t repeating that mistake. There are plenty of good reasons & ways to be anti-Iraq war. No need to descend into the ridiculous.
Bob, Glenn covered the hearing at Salon today.

Here’s an interesting quote from our so called government lawyers…
Future Scotus blade I’m sure…
Hi all,
Missed Peterr’s thread about the Religious push back on the SCHIP veto because I was with a group of people visiting the local office of Rep. Joe Pitts. (and he is the . . ) to talk about the very same issue. His aide pulled out all of the unsourced rieich wing talking points and insisted that the Congressman is NOT against health care for kids.
Bull SH*T.
It was fun. Waiting to write the LTE when the heartless bastards sustain the veto.
Met the woman who ran against him last time who told me about the guy who will run against him next time. I need to get this guy talking with Howie so that we can vet him properly and if he passes support him against this slimebag.
TRex @ 72
I would agree it makes it more effective against Malkin, but at the expense of being less effective against the movement that largely agrees with her (right up to the GOP leadership.) However, considering the degenerate state of our public discourse, establishing that there is any limit beyond which right-wingers’ actions become unacceptable is quite a victory.
TRex @ 13
Like 9 y/o boys…. wanted to see how many bees were in that nest, so they poked it.
Something funky happened to my quote at @86. Guess you all got the jist of it anyway.
Re the Armenian genocide vote, it seems like Democrats are going out of their way to find issues that they can cave on. The genocide took place something like 92 years ago. It is not like there was a rush to recognize it.
We know it happened. We deride h*locaust deniers but when it comes to this genocide Democrats show all the moral conviction of cooked spaghetti. They raise the issue then walk away from it because of Turkey’s ridiculous and morally empty denials.
It should also be pointed out that Turkey gets lots of military support and aid from us so actions they took against us would likely have an even bigger effect on them than on us.
Balrog! LTNS!! How’s the little guy?

Going to visit Williamsburg & environs for 4 days. Have guide book, book on Jamestown, book on Pocohontas, book on VA plantations, so I think I’m well prepared. Looking for a local who might put me in the way of something interesting that is not featured in guidebooks, or maybe personal restausant favorites.
End of the day Cushing spot crude oil dropped back to $87.40. This pricing is bogus. The rationale for the most recent spiking is the Turkey-Kurdistan conflict. If this were true, Turkey’s OK today to send in troops should have kept the price going up. It didn’t. As I have said before a lot of people with a lot of money who have no idea what they are doing have entered this market and the result is a lot of loopiness.

i think i’ve ripped the best video i can get of holt’s floor statement this morning. (i found the c-span real player video archive, ran it at full screen on my ibook, video out to my eyetv which did the conversion to mpeg-4 which went to my 5.5 year old imac running the eyetv software to save the mpeg-4 to disk.
i’m now compressing it to 320×240, which spazeboy says is the best size to use.
questions so far -
1) i’m using the h.264 codec, is that ok?
2) my audio is in aac, and i don’t see how to convert it to mp3. will that be a problem when i try to upload it to youtube?

I heard someone on CSPAN over the weekend who said that Israel shut down the entire Syrian cybercontrol of its radar system, or words to that effect, and Syria didn’t know what hit it until it was all over. Sorry that I was flipping channels so didn’t catch the context & didn’t have a computer at the time to look up who the character was. In any event, he not only said it with a diabolical grin, but added that’s just what the U.S. will do to Iran when it bombs.

I hadn’t heard that but I did hear via CSPAN that Syria claims there was no radiation detected anywhere

I think it is psyops. They hit something, but who knows what…they’re trying to use it to ramp up trouble for North Korea. Like what person or group? There wasn’t one movement nor one agenda. To tar and feather everyone because of the actions or lack of actions of a few needs some clarification. It wasn’t a few peaceniks marching in the street that prolonged the war but rather incompetent military leaders who knew nothing about the people nor geography they invaded, again.

You say, I might as well go for it.
QuakerGirl @ 103
I don’t know of any reports. The site was likely hit before completion so there may have been no nuclear materials except a few lab samples. Syria still has a small research reactor I believe but it’s nuclear program even with the reactor that got bombed was tiny.

Didn’t mean to denigrate whole anti-war movement. should have added modifiers like ‘occassionally.’ You are, of course, right that what prolonged the war was primarily politicians & military, but smarter anti-war movements actions would have been better. I was thinking of all the counterculture & drugs going on among a portion of the group, which allowed MS Americans to dismiss them out of hand. I think a more Ghandi-like resistence might have worked out better.

W scared the hell out of the WH Press Corps today…the blond lady said, as he was cutting her off, but you’ve talked of mushroom clouds before in this Administration.
Boxer: “The President doesn’t have command of his words”. She said, “what he says seems as though he has no focus”. She actually said, she didn’t think he was stable…then Tweety said, you don’t think he’s stable?..then she backed off…and softened it…she said..”He’s always talking about war and scaring people”….
Wow.

I hope someone caught that on tape…not stable…yikes…oh, yeah…we knew that.

Boxer looked like she really believed what she was saying about Bush, too.
raven @ 129
Let me comment further. At Operation Dewey Canyon III a thousand Vietnam Vets went to Washington to ask for an end to the war. There was not one act of violence the entire week. You know what we got? Nixon dismissed us saying, “these bums obviously are not veterans”.
Internment.

Yup. There was some real fear there about his mental capacity. People have kids and grandkids, and he just scared the jeebebus out of everyone. It is so incredibly irresponsible. He needs to be removed from office, the day after they remove Cheney…
This is not good.
Boxer’s body language was a mix of earnest fear and a concern for his mental health. It didn’t seem scripted. Very authentic, I thought.
Roy Blunt bloviating on the House floor re FISA
(rough transcript):
“If Osama bin Laden orders a pizza from America for delivery to cave #57 in Tora Bora,
we need to know about that.”
Roy, was that Colombian Primo you snorted before coming
down to the microphone, or just Desenex ?
Why can’t Pelosi put impeachment on the table now, based on Bush’s veiled threats of WWIII and his irresponsible provocation of total destruction. Isn’t that fucking enough already. Yes, I’m pissed off at that freak of a presdinext.
Elliott @ 113
Didn’t mean to imply I believed what he said. Just passing along what I heard a supporter of the raid say (BTW he was an American, not an Israeli, and a military type iirc). It’s important to know what the opposition is saying whether it’s true or not.
I think I agree with whoever said it was psyops. Israel just bombed some random location & shut up about it leaving everyone to speculate–much better than a real op, since imagination is much more colorful than reality.
However, before 3/03, when I was trying to figure out whther Iraq had WMDs or ties to OBL, I mentally noted everything the other side had to say & looked for further evidence. Two things became apparent quickly: (1) that their arguements were mighty thin indeed, and (2) that any evidence backing up their arguments was mighty thin. Just using the same methodology on the Israel raid on Syria. So far, there’s either no evidence to back up what they say, or the evidence is contrary, e.g., I think IAEA came out with a statement that Syria has no know nuclear weapons program.
Grrrrr….I’m gonna join my puppy, and eat the remote…grrrrrr

Thank you for clarifying that eCAHN. I had issues also with Barbarella going to North Vietnam and making cute with the Vietcon. There was an internal struggle going on in Vietnam that this lady just didn’t get, nor did our military leaders and politicians for that matter.
I don’t know who has less credibility, those shouting war, war, war or those shouting peace, peace, peace. That is why I shun an Answer demonstration. Too bad because they are the biggest organization out there that can properly organize a large demonstration. They do a terrific job on the logistics. But remember, it’s a marathon, not a sprint. Without the anti-VN war movement, that war might still be going on. So it worked. Maybe so but I understand the level of frustration many felt with “civilized” protest. I think you know that there were folks protesting gently as early as 1964. People who ended up in the Weather Underground, SDS, Zippes and the rest generally tried the other path first.

For those of us who luckily only discovered her of late, can you explain the second two–’cause you sure don’t want us clicking on her archive.

Cool, I’ll interested to hear how it turns out. You have video out only?

Nixon also said of the demonstrators, “I will not be moved.” So, he was moved out of the White House with bent head waving goodbye from his last WH helicopter ride.

raven @ 159
As early as 1960. That was the year of the first CD protest at the Federal Building in SF. The police were ugly. So were many onlookers who called them communists. In 1957 I heard a young minister on radio talking about the US escalation in Vietnam and that we needed to leave immediately. His name was Martin Luther King. Also in the fifties, Graham Greene was writing novels about the US involvement in Vietnam and writing protest novels, The Quiet American. Bet I’m older than you guys.
LS @ 167
None of them have the stones to ride it down like Slim did!
My guess: That phase on anti-Iraq war is still ahead of us. If we’re lucky, we’ll be able to get Clinton out of the WH, on grounds of war going badly, before her second term expires.
Hello Jane if you’re out there:
Who do we need to target on SCHIP tonight? Are there any updated whip counts in the House. Etheridge caved today as well as Baron Hill. We’re getting very close-I feel a final push tonight could make the difference. I was on Open Left a while ago and didn’t see anything. Let’s keep our eye on the ball. The FISA vote is scheduled tomorrow too.
We need an UPDATE!!!
Hugh @ 101
The level of insider trading has been bad in the past. One can imagine how rampant it is now with wiretaps, special computer software and a SEC that is asleep at the wheel. Anyone outside the loop can only now depend on luck. You don’t know when the big players are going to pump or dump a particular stock or the timing of it.
QuakerGirl @ 169
Maybe chronologically but in terms of mileage, it’s a bet!

I know FDL is not a typical blog, but nonetheless I’m impressed by how amny of us are completely contrary to the blogger stereotype of young males in PJs. I think the average age on this blog is well above 40. I think kos once did a survey & found his to be 45, iirc. Us old foggies have more time on our hands and are very involved because we can compare the current disaster to the bad old days. Never thought I’d live to see it worse than then.
LS @ 167

OT From the AP via NY Times Blackwater likely to be out of Iraq.

They set her up. It was an experiment. It backfired. It went beyond the bounds of an acceptable right wing attack. Then it filtered back to Mitch Mcconnell. Who will be sacrificied on the altar of Public Opinion? That prick McConnell or Michelle Maglalang? Newsweek says its Maglalang. They hope it will be a sufficient sacrifice. Its not.
Viva! John Edwards.
eCAHNomics @ 180
Here is something scary. My Mom at 92 said Bush and the times we are in are the worst she experienced. She was horrified with his disregard of the Constitution. She went through some serious bad times in southern Louisiana in her life. Shortly after Bush came to office she said it felt like the nineteen thirties and the rise of Hitler. Her memory was long and deep.
Mercenary Hackiavelli Eric Prince says the Iraqi’s can’t charge his people because the Iraqi justice system doesn’t work well according to him.
Perhaps it is time to put together some state laws that prevent Blackwater types from operating in our states during disasters.
Sounds like the perfect states rights issue.

AP – The Pentagon is preparing to alert eight National Guard units that they should be ready to go to Iraq or Afghanistan beginning late next summer, The Associated Press learned Wednesday.
So RESTORE dies, evidently. So we revert to pre-PAA FISA status quo. How bad is that?
Hmmm.

After W’s WWIII quote, the word’s getting out there…Bush’s mental status is questionable.
What did you say, Bob? eh?
W at 24%!
Olbermann notes that the prez mentions WW III. This is a strange Olbermann show tonight. Olbermann, but no Olbermann.

GSD @ 209
Pretty amazing how so many of them see the same patterns emerging. Me think they know whereof they speak. I’ll go with their observation – not their driving but their political and historical observation. Ever drive with grandparents or parents who turn ninety? Take they keys away, pleeeeeze.

I think Bush is responding to Putin when he talked about WW III.

Can someone please fill me in on Bush saying WW III?
I missed all that.
SnarKassandra @ 232
He was to busy interrupting people to notice.
SnarKassandra @ 233
He sure did. He said he’s using the “bully pulpit”.
So we are being held hostage to nuclear war by the prez?
Eureka Springs @ 221
We’re at the point that if Cheney actually handed out the Kool-Aid to the remaining members of the Cult of W, he’d be down to below 10%.
I like the graphic right now on KO: Going Nucular…
Madam Speaker…my finger is always on the button…back off.
SnarKassandra @ 233
Sounded like it to me too.
Olbermann is talking about Bush perhaps not being “balanced”. In reference to the remarks about WW III.
Elliott @ 235
Shrub participated in today’s WH Presser, and rattled his saber at Iran…!!!
QuakerGirl @ 233
Probably, I am not good friends with them. Better than it used to be, but they don’t like my dad anymore and they’re mad he married my mom and me and my brother remind them of my parents so they’re only even nice to us when they have to. (Since we came to live here. Before that they did not even talk to us at all.)
CTuttle @ 244
well, that is WW III
thanks
Elliott @ 235
Bush said that if Iran did research on Nukes then we would be in World War III. We could probably all be guilty of that. He also said that he is relevant because of his veto. I only watched clips and to me he always looks deranged but his new threat was scary.
The WW III quote:
For the first time in public, Bush warned of the risk of “World War III” if Iran gets nuclear weapons.
I wonder what the Vegas odds are on WW III?
SnarKassandra @ 248
Yes, Miz Cassie, they’re certifiably insane…!!! *g*
Bush presser…..”if you wanted to stop WWIII then someone should prevent Iran from having the knowledge to create a nuclear weapon”
Since the knowledge is right here on the internet where any high school student can download it… the toobz better watch out…
Hugh @ 249
Thanks for the quote.
and thanks JPL and katymine!
some days feel more ominous than others.
Hugh Thanks for posting the actual quote. Do you have the feeling that when Bush used the term Knowledge maybe he was just being ignorant or is that the new thresh hold?
Hugh @ 249
So…what “people” did he tell that to?????
So I told people that if you’re interested in avoiding World War III, it seems like you ought to be interested in preventing them from having knowledge necessary to make a nuclear weapon.
Sounds like he’s trying to give the go ahead…who are the people? Military? Israel?
WTF?
I’ve always thought that W and Cheney would just as soon have Israel do the dirty work…they do not give a rat’s ass about Israel..and would sacrifice them in a minute. JMHO
And this WW III business is not done in a vacuum. It comes on the heels of the Putin warning to Bush yesterday about attacking Iran. And the oil part (Caspian) figures too. It’s interesting that Bush has said many times his idol is Ronald Reagan. And here he is trying to at minimum, restart the cold war. And perhaps ignite the hot war.
I agree with OKK. It was directed at Putin, now that I think about it.
katymine @ 252
True, and, I fear the threshold is being lowered again! ElBaradei has repeatedly renounced Shrub’s assertions…!!! :-(
LS @ 236
I believe it was Teddy Roosevelt who coined the phrase “bully pulpit” to describe the power of the President to influence events through talking to the people.
With Little Boots however, it’s the emphasis on “bully.”
JPL @ 254
I think it was typical Bush babble. Israel, the bomb, World War III, I’m surprised he didn’t throw in SCHIP.
RevDeb @ 212:
Ah, I didn’t realize the Protect America Act rolled back anything affecting FISA in the PATRIOT Act, if that’s what you’re saying. My understanding was that RESTORE broke new stuff, but was orthogonal to the PARTIOT Act. And that PAA automatically sunsets, and so absent passage of RESTORE (or some follow-on), that leaves us in a pre-Protect America Act state, FISA-wise.
Hmmm.
One thing I do believe that our prez and the leader of the Third Reich have in common is… they were and are… both nuts.
SnarKassandra @ 244
