Congress has abandoned its promise to afford every citizen life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. When the wealthiest nation prioritizes excessive spending on a morally and fiscally bankrupt war in Iraq while the neediest children go without health insurance, we have forfeited our commitment to America.

According to a recent CBS News poll, 81% of Americans endorse this bipartisan legislation that would have preserved coverage for six million children currently covered by CHIP, extended coverage to nearly four million uninsured children, as well as ensured dental coverage and mental health parity. This fully funded bill would have allocated $100 million in grants for new outreach activities to states, local governments, schools, community-based organizations, and safety-net providers.

“The Bible teaches us that a new day will dawn when the ‘last will become first and the first will be last.’ Today, Congress and President Bush have banished our children and the underserved to the back of the line. We can and must do better.

The Congressional Black Caucus, 43 Members from 21 states, representing 40 million Americans, is resolute in our position to ensure health care for 10 million children and to protect the overall health and wellness of our most vulnerable citizens.

If the vote does NOT go the right way, we should keep this on the front burner from now until Nov. 2008. Every single F-ing day. I will contribute more money to do this, if needed.

Forget it Pelosi will take it off the table and go onto the next looser…SHE HAS NO GUTS TO TIE THIS PUNK BUSH UP FROM NOW UNTIL 1/20/09. NO GUTS!

It just seems suspicious to me, the day before the vote.

I really REALLY hope that tomorrow, the vote will go the right (I mean correct) way.

Also, Eric Erickson is not the author of the Voter- ID Law. Cecil Staton, from Macon and a State legislator, authored the Voter ID Law, which has been condemned repeatedly by the paper, and by me in at least 2 published lte’s. Many others have done the same.

One thing Marshall is not, he is not imprudent. He has not made one imprudent move in all the time I have observed him. And, as noted in another diary a couple of days ago, he is not opposed to S-CHIP, just to the funding source and to the expanded coverage to higher income children, when not all the poorer ones are yet covered. This was part of his detailed written response to me when I challenged his “No” vote.

To answer a couple of comments: that picture is not of Jim Marshall. And the state Democratic party is still indeed dead and is in sore need of some charismatic and inspiring leadership. In the meantime, I am far more opposed to Marshall’s supporting the MCA of 2006 and related legislation, than I am to his no vote on S-CHIP.

Marshal far exceeds in brains, and integrity and knowledge what we previously had representing us: Lynn Westmoreland of Colbert/10 commandments infamy, and Saxby Chambliss prior to his successful Senatorial campaign in 2002.
