Charming little vignettes concerning that bastion of truthiness and pro-Republican slantitude, the Washington Post:
– Watch the WaPo’s Howie Kurtz flog his new book and spew silliness about the US media and Iraq! Watch Jon Stewart rip him to shreds! (h/t Crooks and Liars)
– The WaPo nearly widdles on itself in glee as it uses a British judge’s ruling to beat up on Al Gore on the front page. Except, as Robert Parry of The Consortium points out, Judge Burton’s ruling was not exactly error-free. Oops. (Tim Lambert has more at Deltoid.)
– Rabid neocon nutball, Pam Oshry type-alike and WaPo columnist Charles Krauthammer channels Dr. Strangelove, or How He Learned To Stop Worrying And Love Hillary Clinton. (Note to Senator Clinton: Some endorsements you can do without. Trust me on this one.)
– Speaking of Hillary Clinton, WP reporter Anne Kornblut seems to have problems with accurately reproducing quotes from the senator.

Dang! If I hadn’t stopped to read first….
Bob in HI
Hill, should distance herself from Krauthammer, stat…!!!
“Speaking of Hillary Clinton…” This could prove to be a long night.
Should Blackwater be pulled out of Iraq?
Poll:

Oklahoma kiddo @ 6
Apparently, OKK…!!! 8~)
And the Zombie Rightwing Meme that Will Not Die Marches On In Search of Brains to Devour.
Don’t particularly like or dislike Hillary, but good grief does the media fills up their stupid tank before every discussion with or about her.
LS @ 7
Heard on the radio about two separate incidents where soldiers in Iraq were told they had to take orders from the mercenaries.
uh oh, i like goobers!
Blackwater? American taxpayers are paying these guys. That means you and me.
Jim Clausen @ 1
LOL
What is Hillary’s position on Blackwater?
TexBetsy @ 10
OK, this might get my primal scream. Did the radio say if they were “told” that by their superiors or by BW itself?
either way is bad, but curious.
this is out of control.
Charles Krauthammer’s endorsement of Hillary should be the kiss of death for that candidacy.
TexBetsy @ 10
Wow. I know they drew weapons on the troops…I’m gonna try to find the source of what you heard. That is insane.
Oklahoma kiddo @ 14
Well, don’t quote me but I thought HRC was getting some campaign support? can anyone verify?
do-si-do @ 15
Told by both, reported to commanding officers if they did not follow mercenary “orders” including being frisked by the mercenaries, etc. The speaker was the blogging officer from Arizona whose name I always forget.
do-si-do @ 11
I am still holding out for the ones with the raisins.
Olbermann has invaded our living room.
cubical for tonight
Krugman and John Dean on Olbermann tonight.
tw3k @ 22
cute!
TexBetsy @ 10
And, how pray tell, does the whole “salute the stripes” thing go if you are dealing with a thug in sunglasses?
Or do they just give them all scrambled eggs to wear on the bills of their caps?
That is just nuts.
Oklahoma kiddo @ 14
Senator Clinton has requested extra time and a slide rule for this question.
tw3k @ 22
LOL!
tw3k @ 22
Paranoid, are we…??? ;-)
Leonard Clark! That was him. (Military officer talking about the mercenaries.) Third hour of this show.
tw3k @ 22
Hey! That’s my office! *g*
EvilDrPuma @ 26
I think the Senator is rather an expert on trigonometry.
TexBetsy @ 10
I don’t know if this is the same video Jane posted or not. But it is Blackwater and troops. I keep wondering…where are the flowers and all the candy????
http://www.militaryvideos.net/…..ideonum=33
Anne Kornblut didn’t even lie well enough for the New York TImes; that’s why the WaPo hired her. She’s inexcusably in the tank for The Regime, and will do anything to mischaracterize a Clinton position.
She is only outdone by Shailagh Murray, known at the Orangerie and Eschaton as The Devil:
Yeah, public opinion has shifted on Iraq, Shalaigh — but not the way you claim. Note how she uses Obama’s poll standings as a misleading proxy for the clear, unambiguous, and readily available polling on American opinion on the Iraq adventure.
LS @ 32
The more important question is…can we get the ones without the nuts?
“Some endorsements you can do without; trust me on this one.”
I MEAN, Phoenix!
IMHO, Krauthammer is the slimiest of the slimeballs.
He WISHES she gets nominated. :o)
I think I might be on the “to watch” list by whoever runs ‘national security’. If not, I am offended.
Phule @ 34
no nuts
Oh good. More hearings about FISA.
Oklahoma kiddo @ 36
I assume we are.
TeddySanFran @ 33
That is a clear insult to the Devil.
TexBetsy @ 37

rats. No cable at my house. Can you let us know what he’s saying to Keith?
TexBetsy @ 29
Great catch TexBetsy!
I thought that the British judge whingeing on An Inconvenient Truth was hysterical. What the British don’t have wacko, know nothing judges? Sure they do. Most of the examples were brought up long ago and did not touch on the integrity of the message itself, but if some half-wit British judge blathers on about it, then we should all take what she has to say about it seriously. It drives the Right Wing crazy that despite their best efforts to smear him Al Gore continues to rise above and prosper whereas their BoyKing has ended up in the crapper of history.
Verison being discussed by Dean and Olbermann. There will be no impeachment. Right, Speaker?
Get Out!
from TPM Josh Marshall by David Kurtz
Iraqis complete their investigation of Blackwater’s Nisour Square shooting and ask the State Department to pull Blackwater out of the country.
TexBetsy @ 43
thanks!
Oklahoma kiddo @ 31
Hillary can be so obtuse on occasions that she is positively hypotenuse.
Toby Wollin @ 44
I’m terrible at live-blogging, but he’s now talking about the Verizon thing — high probability that there could be violations of law
Sorry Toby, I couldn’t catch it all and give a good synopsis :-(
National security people. Come get me. I dare you.

Oklahoma kiddo @ 53
well you can be sure they always know where you are!
You can always watch the previous night’s KO at this MSNBC website. With ads, of course.
LoudounLib @ 51
Am not certain but you may find the KO broadcast with Dean on the MSNBC web site just after 6 PM west coast time.
Dean; …the ‘State Secrets’ defense is being chipped away, and, Shrubco is running scared… very loosely paraphrased…!!! *g*
CTuttle @ 58
*g*
Hugh @ 50
Yes. But notice that the Senator is only an expert on right triangles. She’s not very good with all other triangles. That would be left triangles.
CTuttle @ 58
Nicely done CT.

I just finished John Dean’s book (not the new one; the last one), so I’m pretty focused on what he says.
I’ll just have to wait for it to appear on C&L.
Did anyone catch Big Eddie Shultz smoozin’ with Kurtz on his radio “show” today? A FULL hour. Ouch!

Very.

I think there may have been some spankin’ and manly man-bonding going on during the breaks, but during the interview it was just so much gushing about how “wow, I read a chapter of your book last night and, wow, you sure know a lot of people and, gee, gosh, I wish I’d made a list of tough questions but, well, heh heh, boy, you sure did a lot of research, wow, two whole years of research, that’s a lot of research”.
I won’t be getting that hour of my life back!

Looking at Olbermann. So… let me get this straight. If I don’t agree with the Republican line I am “not a citizen”
rachel maddow, this is the edge of politics and some more brutish than opolitics begin.
the rep is on the wrong side of the issues. he’s losing his district .
he’s decided not to compete on a political level but with apoplexy instead.

Wrong Joe I think.
I never eat chocolate, and I don’t have any, but the box up there is making me want some!!!!!!!!!!!! Actually, I want chocolate covered raisins…mmmmm
Sorry.
A visiting Professor at my [unnamed, top tier] university actually lined everything with foil and (REALLY) wore a tinfoil hat. Convinced she was being spied upon – not sure by whom. I can’t figure out why someone that crazy was hired, but I heard her office and apartment looked like that cubicle! Without the (??) kool aid cups.
I swear: everything I see on this site (Joe Nellenburg video anyone?) comes on Keith Olberman’s show two days later.
Way to go firepups!!!
Way to go Keitho!!!!
LoudounLib @ 118
ok!
deliberate strategy on activist part since Joe Knallenberg won’t meet with anyone, is unresponsive.
not a citizen. RM just that sentence you’re not a citizen, you have a political agenda. real americans have no political opinions and are sheep. weird, she says.
KO lines up completely with character assasinations of GOP. Real Americans don’t disagree.
RM, if you do disagree you’re open to attack. Americans are political by nature.

William Fisher | Blackwater “Excesses” No Surprise
from t r u t h o u t
William Fisher, reporting for Truthout, writes, “On October 15, a diplomatic advocacy organization charged that the powerful State Department office and the Department’s inspector general are protecting Blackwater and other private security contractors by creating a ‘pattern of deceit involving direct collusion’ to conceal a wide variety of problems from Congressional and American taxpayer oversight.”

Oh my, wikipedia offers an intuitive bio on twinkle toes Larry. “In 1980, Craig was elected to an open seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Idaho’s 1st congressional district….Allegations of cocaine use and sex with male teenage congressional pages by unnamed congressmen were pursued by investigators and journalists in 1982.[13] Craig issued a statement denying involvement.[14] Craig stated “Persons who are unmarried as I am, by choice or by circumstance, have always been the subject of innuendos, gossip and false accusations. I think this is despicable.”…Craig married Suzanne Thompson in 1983 and adopted the three children she had from a previous marriage
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_Craig
Craig told Tim Russert: “The American people already know that Bill Clinton is a bad boy – a naughty boy. I’m going to speak out for the citizens of my state, who in the majority think that Bill Clinton is probably even a nasty, bad, naughty boy.” Sure sounds like a schoolboy crush for Bill.
Big ole gay Jim Thompson the exgov. of IL got himself a wife/beard, for cover too while in office.
Phule @ 9
Exactly. She’s not my first choice or even my second in the primaries, but dammit, let’s not a) bash her for the wrong reasons, or b) reinforce right-wing bullcrap that will be used to beat up on Democrats in general.
I’m going to make a suggestion that will sound insane….until you think about it. You want to end the war (in spite of the plans of the war clowns) and get back your Constitutional rights? Change parties. Register with the GOP. And vote for Ron Paul.
For those of you who haven’t heard me say this before, this is our ticket out of this shithole being built around us. Our Democratic leaders refuse to represent us, so they need a bit of a smackdown. The Republicans, on the other hand, will do anything BUT what the citizens of this nation desire, so they deserve having the metaphorical shit kicked out of them. How do we do this? Easy. We co-opt their own system. Their plan is to put Rudy or another war-hack in position against Hillary, and we can actually change course on ‘em. Become a member of the Gop (just for the primary, knuckle-head!) and vote for Ron Paul.
What would this do? Ron Paul is so anti-war that would completely change the tone of the entire election. His candidacy would shatter the GOP, for one, forcing the pro-war Republicans wankers into a corner from which there is no escape…either they vote for Paul or Hillary (chuckle) or they don’t vote at all. It’s all good! It also destroys their advantage of having control of the electronic voting machines…they can’t change the candidates! It would also force Hillary to become anti-war or risk losing to the real anti-war candidate, Ron Paul. If we could get enough people in on this, we could actually force the candidates to do what we, the people, want them to.
This may seem pretty radical to you but it’s really just a sophisticated chess move. We can rule the board if we’re willing to do the completely unexpected, by changing parties (and yes, you idiot, you can still vote for the Democrat in the general election).
PS-to those of you who worry that Paul might actually get elected, let me say this: given the way that things stand now, he’d be a better choice than the present “Hillary” we’ve got. He’s got more integrity than virtually anyone else in Congress and is devoted to the Constitution (and that sounds mighty good to me about now). As a Libertarian, he’s very big on personal rights and freedoms and he (unlike the assholes in power now) recognizes that the Legislative branch rules over the Executive branch. He’s the “anti-Bush” in almost every way and even if he was somehow able to push his Libertarian agenda (which couldn’t get too far in his system of government), it’d be a damned sight better than what’s being laid out for us at the moment. Trust me on this- this is the *only* thing we can actually do that would change the course of history that the thug-polititians have planned for us. Change party and vote Ron Paul!
More progress? How much more “progress” can wwe endure?

It’s the Kevin Bacon method of identifying “terrorists”.
