It’s no wonder that Republicans believe the SCHIP program is a slippery slope, incremental step toward total “socialized medicine” in the U.S. The Republicans are experts at such slippery slope, incremental tactics. They have been chipping away at a woman’s right to abortion in this manner for years, with some success.

Too bad Tony Snow has excellent health insurance.

Maybe it would take just cancellinbg all the health insurance for the White House and Congress so they can see the actual bills for once.

portia.vz @ 58 -

i hate the attitude (i’ve seen it in my own family) that only the well off have the right to have kids. as far as i am concerned (a middle aged woman who doesn’t want to be a parent), i think the right to have children is just that - a RIGHT. and not one that should put you in debt or in the poor house.

ugh.

I hear ya’ but in this case I think it is just foolish. She really can’t afford it. And with SCHIP in doubt, she is going to be facing some hefty bills for prenatal care.
As for people on public assistance, I *do* have a problem with women getting pregnant. You shouldn’t have more kids than you can afford on your own. Health insurance is one thing. Rent vouchers, child care assistance and food stamps are quite another. No, I think personal responsibility should come first. That is not to say that poor people can’t have children. It’s just that they need to figure out a way to pay for them. And if they can’t figure that out, they probably shouldn’t have any additional ones.

“Contrast that with the “it’s all about what’s in it for me” attitude in the GOP”
***********

Sadly, it’s not just the GOP. It is America. Yes, yes, there is “Sicko” and tons of horror stories about American health care — and its availability. But would 51% of Americans vote for Socialized medicine?

No. So, yes, the GOP is evil. But the rest of America is dumber than dog droppings. Until it happens to THEM PERSONALLY, they won’t act. It will always be the SCARY SOCIALISM that turns them off.

I am quick to state that Americans are very stupid — and they are — but this has been put into our brains for generations. It will take time to turn things around.

If anyone saw Mr. Bogle on Bill Moyers (he is the president of Vanguard), he said the Insurance companies make MORE than the technology industries.

Why is this? why should people who produce nothing make more money that companies who produce a product? Sad state of affairs. I really reccomend this interview if you want to see what is happening in America these days.
