I know Randi. She’s very sincere and hard working and she wants so many of the things Democrats and even many non-Democrats say they want for our country. I wonder when the traits and positions that we say we want in our leaders became the very traits and positions that supposedly make them un-electable. It’s strange.

I guess I don’t see how having a Republican there would make the situation better. This isn’t a criticism of Scheurer, who does sound excellent. But, as they say, the best is the enemy of the good. And I feel a lot of the Dems political problems (not all) have been due to their aptitude for circular firing squads.

Anyway, not so young, but, yes.

Look, to the extent that Congresswoman Bean can be pressured to take more progressive positions, that’s good. But people who don’t live in the Chicago area may not be aware of just how conservative the “collar” counties outside of the city / Cook county itself really are. The man Bean defeated, long-standing incumbent Phil Crane, was an astoundingly reactionary Republican. He probably would have won again except for an acknowledged alcohol problem that had led him to become increasingly and obviously out of touch and ineffective. And even with that, it was a pretty close election.

Randi Scheurer sounds like a terrific politician. But however much the district is changing, don’t misunderstand or misrepresent the situation on the ground in that district. It’s fine to disagree with Melissa Bean. Your disrespectful attitude towards her is another matter. We’re lucky to have a Democrat representing that district at all.

I’ve worked in the defense industry for the better part of two decades. Nothing I’ve ever experienced is remotely like what folks have gotten away with in Iraq. I hope that you’ll do whatever you can to make sure that the contracting process in Iraq is investigated thoroughly.
