Chris Dodd is going to be hosting Air America tonight from 9-10pm ET/6-7pm PT, and I’ll be his guest starting at 9:30. I’m not holding my breath for shock jock action, but we probably will be discussing the much-needed Bankruptcy Reform Bill that Dodd is sponsoring:
Yesterday, The New York Times editorialized about the housing market, saying that for the first time since the Carter Administration, home owneership is set to decline under President Bush’s tenure, and Congress and the President need to work on bankruptcy reform legislation to avoid mass foreclosures and a complete collapse of the housing market.
“It’s completely unacceptable to sit on the sidelines while millions of Americans are losing their homes, and with it, their piece of the American Dream,” said Dodd. “While it’s clear that the Administration thinks it is already doing enough to stem the tide of this problem, I would guess the people who lost their homes while President Bush was in office would beg to differ. As a Senator and Banking Committee Chairman, I am doing all I can to help families across the country at risk of losing their homes. But the President has the ultimate authority to act now to stop the market from collapsing, and millions of American families from losing their homes. His dereliction to do so is unconscionable.”
The details of the bill are still being worked out, but I sincerely hope there will be some effort to address the horrible parts of the bill that make people overwhelmed by heavy medical bills (the leading cause of bankruptcy filings) indentured servants to their creditors for the rest of their lives.
You can listen live here.

I like Dodd.
Dodd makes sense
Hiya Jane
Jane,
If I win the Red Sox tickets he’s giving away to a contributor, would you be my date?
Remember this?
Far too many D’s joined the soulless rethuglicans on that list.
We in this house would much prefer Dodd as next president to the cardboard cut-out duo of Obama and Hillary.
I like that Dodd is lucid, and not batshit insane. I would like for the next president to be lucid, and not batshit insane. I would like to be able to see tv coverage of some kind of world leader summit, and be able to point, and say, “there’s our president!” instead of covering my face and pretending to be Canadian.
I’m guessing that variable rate mortgages have jumped up in the list of causes for bankruptcy since that article. Granted, the number of people going bankrupt due to medical issues has jumped as well. That’s why I was pretty happy when I followed the links over to Dodd’s website and saw what he had to say about both bankruptcy reform and home ownership. The more I read of Dodd, the more I like him. He would make a fine president and I hope he can prove the conventional wisdom wrong and win the Democratic nomination.
cleter @ 7
Wouldn’t it be nice to look forward to a presidential news conference again instead of being sure that the TV is off? I would be so happy to have a real Prez instead of know-nothing Bush.
People buying groceries at WalMart with plastic. This is bothersome.
I like Chris Dodd, I really do. I’ve been very impressed with his answers about things. And noooo, I can’t think of a one right now.
dakine01 @ 4
If Jane won’t go, can I? I’ll even buy the airfare!
cleter @ 7
Here ya go! This is IT!
((((((((((JANE))))))))))
Lucky Chris Dodd and listeners here, there and everywhere. And thanks for the linky and hope it is reposted as time draws nearer for the broadcast!
Thing of it is, for many we are already in a depression. Never mind a recession.
Anyone here going to be at the Gore/Boxer fundraiser Thursday evening in SF? Would be nice to meet some of you :-)

I like a sitting Senator or Representative who actually writes and submits good legislation.. then works for it’s passage. Dodd and Kucinich are men of action, they put bills on the table instead of just promising something without backup.
Obama and Hillary… not so much.
Gnome de Plume @ 12
Dayam, that’d be sooo awesome… Jane wouldn’t be Dumpster-Diving, she’d be in a real Ball Park…!!! ;-)

I wish I had written this cuz I sure think it a lot too! I like Dodd and wish he and Edwards were both higher in the polls.

There’s a whole lot of modern-day Joad types sitting in suburbia. Waiting for foreclosure.

Does HRC have a solution?

I blame the credit card companies and our instant gratification culture.
Hey Jane,
Ask him if he’s ever heard of the word “usury”.
Ask him if he’s ever heard of the word “vigorish”.
Ask him why the
corporate loansharkscredit card companies are putting the neighborhood loansharks out of business. And after he walks off the air in a huff, take over the microphone and give him a great big Bronx cheer for “credit due”.

Ron Paul will restore the Constitution.
We also like Edwards/Dodd. Or the other way around. Looking at Edwards with Ray Suarez on NewsHour. Thank you, newspaperbrat for the tip.
I wish the 2nd tier candidates had more of a chance. At any rate don’t know if those of you who are getting all the campaign stuff saw this one.Richardson has a SCHIP petition.
Can someone tell me how the tax exempt/not for profit health organizations and insurers who who provide services, while bankrupting uninsured and insured Americans for life and forcing foreclosures, is “lessening the burdens of government” for the 501C (3) IRS tax exempt status they enjoy?, How does this benefit the general welfare of the nation!! Seems like a scheme to me where the taxpayer citizen is the only one on the short end of then stick!!!
CTuttle @ 48
I thought Rachel Maddow didn’t swing that way.
There seems to be a clear choice on Iraq between Edwards and Clinton. I’ll go with Edwards.

Well, I’ve got a Red Sox cap (as well as two or three Cincy caps, and a couple of Kentucky caps etc etc etc – have to protect the chrome dome doncha know)
PLovering @ 49
PL, I appreciate your support of Paul but he would not restore the constitution. He is against a womans individual right to determine her reproductive considerations. He would quite simply (as TSF mentioned) eliminate government with the exception of maintaining a huge Military Industrial Complex… the one thing this country needs to dramatically reduce more than anything else, imo.
Is there anyone here that can convince me that HRC is a Progressive?
dakine01 @ 56
Ah. Chris Dodd is having a Red Sox raffle I believe. Kid you not.
Eureka Springs @ 45
I no longer form opinions from the MSM without doing some research..it’s going to get worse.

Oklahoma kiddo @ 58
Hahahaha. No way. I believe some of the candidates have progressive qualities. But I am hard put to put particularly Obama and Hillary in that category. It’s amazing how quickly Obama climbed that ladder.
mui @ 55
I might trust Paul to restore the Constitution…but libertarian that he is, I’d also trust him to destroy much that is good but not explicitly set out in the Constitution. Economically, a right-libertarian is still a wingnut, and that isn’t a trade I feel the need to make.
I like Edwards. I like Dodd too.

Steve-AR, Thanks, and it’s a good point.
Jane,
I have nothing for you.
Can I just connect with you for a minute?
I know you’ve reached the point where you wonder if you can just keep going. I’m at that point in a way. I will keep going. I have too many people depending on me. I simply cannot stop.
But I can stop doing anything on a larger scale.
I have real family members who need me. My father just lost his beloved wife, my loving loving stepmother, two weeks ago. My husband is far too old to be running a restaurant in the North End of Boston, but he does. My son was born with my husband’s ADHD gene and is home, rather then in the dorm, attending college. I can’t count the number of boys and a few fantastic girls that I work with who have needs that are considered special.
That’s a little of the personal.
I want to work on a bigger scale. Honestly this happened. As I was re-examining the kid who was tasered and arrested for being a journalism student, I stumbled onto my friend’s tragedy: his wife had the nerve to get upset at the airport when they would not let her fly at the times that they told her she could fly.
She’s dead.
This coincided with the 12 year old kid with special needs being grateful for insurance. The fact that Republicans feel that his family is fair game for the Rove Smear has put me over the edge.
I work hard for kids for a small amount of money and it is my pleasure. But I somehow have gone over some edge and I am reaching out to you in this writing forum.
Reach back.
If it makes any difference. I ended up in the emergency room of a wonderful hospital with all the tests for heart failure. Why?
The Red Sox won the World Series.
True story.
Thanks Frank.

Some of the Western world’s leading financiers and foreign policy strategists attend Bilderberg. Donald Rumsfeld is an active Bilderberger, as is Peter Sutherland from Ireland, a former European Union commissioner and chairman of Goldman Sachs and of British Petroleum. Rumsfeld and Sutherland served together in 2000 on the board of the Swedish/Swiss engineering company ABB. Former U.S. Deputy Defense Secretary and former World Bank head Paul Wolfowitz is also a member, as is Roger Boothe, Jr. The group’s current chairman is Etienne Davignon, the Belgian businessman and politician.

Well, only 18 senators have a more progressive voting record than she does, according to Progressive Punch. You can look at the specific votes they used to calculate her ranking, and you might want to “weight” some of the issues differently.

From the article
The tactic was so effective that al Qaeda later said it was forced to disseminate the video directly to the networks, Mr. Weisburd said.
But as I recall this video was actually disseminated by the US Government after the independant intelligence group that obtained it passed it on PRIOR to release to several US Government Officials. That was with the promise that these officials wouldn’t release it publically, but only use it for investigative purposes.
The reason…early release would blow the cover of the informants who had obtained it and expose them, and their family, to torture and death.
Guess what, those Administration officials went right out and released it to the media (Fox)…not only lying about what they would do…but actually assisting al Qaeda in eliminating covert informants within the organization.
Maybe this guy should be spending his time trying to block Fox and the WH from such numbskull acts for politically craven reasons…of course, I bet he’s really uninterested in blocking the release of bin Laden tapes when it SERVES HIS PURPOSE!
I had to work today, and just caught up with this thread. I hope Jane asked Dodd about his important role, working with Tom Delay and Bob Ney, in destroying the transparency of American elections, with the fast-tracking of highly insecure and insider hackable electronic voting machines–all over the country–run on ‘TRADE SECRET,’ PROPRIETARY programming code, owned and controlled by rightwing Bushite corporations, with virtually no audit/recount controls.
In my opinion, this WAS the fascist coup. “Trade secret” vote counting isn’t the only thing wrong with our election system, but it is the final blow–the thing that makes reform impossible. Private Bushite corporations now have direct ‘TRADE SECRET’ control of the whole system, and can reverse any primary or general election outcome, wherever they need to, to keep overall control of Congress, and to (s)elect whoever they want to crown as emperor
That’s why I don’t believe a word that Christopher Dodd says on any subject. It’s easy to spout leftist-seeming positions, to draw votes away from a true leftist like Kucinich or from one of the other more genuine Dem candidates like Edwards, when you know that such policies have no chance of ever being enacted, cuz you personally saw to it that rightwing Bushite corporations would be ‘counting’ all the votes with ‘TRADE SECRET’ code.
Dodd is a tool of the global corporate predators who rule over us. He is a member of the secretive Bilderberg Group. Don’t be taken in by Dodd. With Hillary, at least you can see what she is. Not Dodd. He is a sneaky, lying bastard.
