Ha!
How-dee!
Sweet. Thanks, TRex.
hello again.
TRex!!!
let downstairs know, snapdi, please
Good evening, everyone. Could someone tell me why the login has to be at the bottom of that long list?
I have no idea, TRex but that video amused me back in 1998 and it still amuses me now. *silly grin*
TJ @ 7
tj, it has always been at the very bottom of the third column.
Loo Hoo let em know.
thanks, snapdi and loohoo
That infernal wheel can be so frustrating…!!!

Quick drive-by update to an earlier bulletin.
At 8:55pm tonight daughter #2 gave birth to a 21″ 6lb 15oz baby boy, my second grandson.
TRex @ 13
I know the feeling. Much less his molesting the damned microphone. (raawwr)
Oilfieldguy @ 15
woohoo… congrats ofg
felicitations, OFG!
CTuttle @ 12
I’ve found that if the “Refresh Comments” button gives you the wheel, a hard-refresh during the wheel fixes it. But I’m on Mac…
Any lawyers around who can explain this one?
TRex, did you hear about Malkkkin’s busy day?
congrats OFG!
Oilfieldguy @ 15
Hooray!! What is the wee guy’s first name?
OFG! Congrats dude!
Oilfieldguy @ 15
Oh Grandpa, much love to all.
newtonusr @ 19

Oilfieldguy @ 15
Congrats! Where’s the cigars…?!!!
Digital cigars all around.
Congrats to the OFG family.

CTuttle @ 21
Goodness me, no. Whatever is the little genocidal pinhead up to now?
Bless her heart.
TexBetsy @ 20
Stop my pounding heart!
Oilfieldguy @ 15
congrats! I’m envious.
TexBetsy @ 20
Absolute immunity under the Speech and Debate Clause would be my guess.
CONGRATS, OFG!!!
wow. someone was actually stupid enough to say this:
Oilfieldguy @ 15
Congats!
Much happiness to your daughter and her family.
TRex @ 29
Bless her heart indeed — how about a stake though her heart.
TRex @ 29
UPDATE: TP commenter Mr. Ed notes that Malkin visited the Frost’s home and business today. A coworker of Mr. Frost tells Malkin that the family is “struggling,” but she refuses to believe it.
That would be Graeme Frost’s Dad, the 12 yro who gave the Dems response to the SChip veto…

Christine Edmonson @ 37
metaphorically speaking, of course
Peyton Wayne.
TRex, it seems Maulkkin visited the home of the family who gave the plea to support s-CHIP to see if they were really needy.
She needs your special treatment, as well as the general’s

Wow. That person needs to get out more.
Suzanne @ 39
Of course, sorry!
Wow.
Just when you think those people have hit rock bottom, they find a trap door.
On that note, I am going to go and eat some dinner and watch Veronica Mars on DVD.
Pathetic. They’re swift-boating a sick child.
I hope those fucking right wing pond scum are proud of themselves. I’m surprised that they haven’t tried to firebomb their house.
Christine Edmonson @ 42
surely you meant a steak through her art.
Here is the Maulkkkin post.
TRex @ 43
Night’s not over yet.
TRex @ 43

punaise @ 44
Oh! I did, I did!
Oilfieldguy!! Congratulations. That was the quickest pregnancy evah!
OK, I need to step away…writing a proposal (one of several that have been neglected during late night blog sessions) and I was about to mention in it that oilfieldguy just welcomed a grandchild to the world. wouldn’t that have been a head-scratcher for the unsuspecting potential client…

punaise @ 58
and do they know about your punning?
Here’s my favorite comment from the Think Progress thread:
Congrats, Grandpa OFG.
Congratulations on the arrival of the new OilFieldLad, grampa!
punaise @ 58
Heh, just a different sorta package…!!! ;-)
I’m out. Stayed up way past my bedtime last night finishing Hillhouse’s book. Need to catch up on sleep tonight.
See y’all tomorrow night. Pleasant dreams, everyone.
Someone needs to tell this lady to come to Texas.
sleep well burns.
And lest we forget … somewhere in Heaven tonight, Gilly is smiling.
burnspbesq @ 64
Ooh, I haven’t checked up on her in awhile…! G’nite, Burns!!!
burnspbesq @ 64
Niters burnspbesq & all – am gonna call it a day too.
sleep well NPB. Until tomorrow!
TexBetsy,
Medford, Oregon could be plucked up into the air and inserted deep in the heart of Texas and nobody would notice anything weird had happened. Ashland would happily grow into the void in Oregon, and Waco would welcome a new friend.
i am hoping that tomorrow will bring indictments, et
time for me to call it a night also. The bed cats are demanding my presence. (waves sleepily)
Nighters, burns and NPB.
*waving to all the leaving sleep pups*
Suzanne @ 72
Say – isn’t there one place where we can see what all committees are meeting?
Suzanne @ 75
Ditto That! I see that Dr. Hillhouse has been very productive…!!! ;-)
Sleep well ndfg
Wordsmith @ 76
Now that you mention it…
Small protest in Iran.
Iran — About 100 students staged a rare protest Monday against Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, calling him a “dictator” as he gave a speech at Tehran University marking the beginning of the academic year.
While the demonstrators and hard-line students loyal to Ahmadinejad scuffled in the auditorium, the president ignored chants of “Death to the dictator” and gave his speech on the merits of science and the pitfalls of Western-style democracy, witnesses said.
newton, thanks… i was looking and looking and not finding it in my bookmarks.
Suzanne @ 72
I’m hoping it brings a contract on your cottage. Sell, house, sell!
Perhaps your were bolting down some big chunks of Brachiosaur?
Loo Hoo. @ 80
good for them
Wordsmith @ 76
Wordsmith, Suz is referring to the 10 plus indictments due to be issued up in Alaska…
Wordsmith @ 76
selise keeps a weekly log for everyone. Click on her name for all of the hearings. If you have special requests, or know of something not on her list, she will add it. She’s normally here early mornings. If you go back to Christy’s first post this morning, she’ll be there. She is too kind!
Suzanne @ 80
I’ve come to depend on selise (thanks selise!) for it.
nevermind. Newtonusr is on the case again!
oh crap, i don’t think so.. they are grand juries iirc up in alaska and sworn to secrecy etc
Suzanne @ 72
So am I. This evening I found out another Native American woman besides Diane Benson is running for Congress. Her name is Mary Kim Titla, and she’s challenging dirty Dirty Dick Renzi for the seat in what might be the biggest congressional district ouside of Alaska, Arizona’s 1st. That district takes in more than half of Arizona, and includes many Native American lands. Titla is San Carlos Apache, and her ancestral home is near where Geronimo came from. Diane and Mary Kim will be meeting in Denver in five weeks.
newtonusr @ 79
Oh – Thanks!!
I put it somewhere ’safe’ where I’d remember it easily. (chuckling)
Geronimo:
The White Man has made many promises, more than I can count. He has kept but one; he promised to take our land, and he took it.
Ed*ard Teller @ 90
thanks et
Wordsmith @ 91
Yep. Same here. :-)
CTuttle @ 85
The Stevens family I would hope.
But I wasn’t referring to that. I knew she’d at least point in the direction to go for help.
From now on, wordsmith, I’ll just point to Newton.
Suzanne @ 96
And I’ll point to NetRootsMass for the Congress and more, and ET for Alaska and more.
There has never been a Native American woman in the US Congress. Mary Kim founded a webzine called Native Youth Magazine last year. She left TV news and a possible film career to help youngsters. I can’t tell yet from what I know if she’s as progressive as Diane Benson, but I’m hoping she beats the bejeezuz out of Renzi – if Renzi even stands for his seat.
Are we expecting indictments tomorrow in Alaska? Cool.
(I had to run an errand and am getting caught up on this thread.)
ET, hasn’t Renzi said he wasn’t running in ‘08? Even so, it’s a strong R area, so any D who runs for that seat will have a challenge.
Ed*ard Teller @ 98
Sending this and more to Howie. He’ll be on this quick, if not already.
Ed*ard Teller @ 90
My dad married a woman while stationed in Alaska. Her mother was Ingalikmiut Eskimo and came from Little Diomede, moving to Nome where my older brother was born. My my dad’s father was from Norway
Wordsmith,
Cool. You, Diane and I share Norwegian and Native American ancestry. My dad’s maternal grandmother was full-blooded Comanche.
Sorry – my keyboard acts up from time to time.
We had a woman here in Idaho who was Coeur d’Alene, Jeanne Givens
Ed*ard Teller @ 102
No – I’m – anglo. My mother’s family is from Ireland and Scotland. ??
BUT….some of my best friends aren’t!
Time for me to get some sleep. Need to function in Farsi and French simultaneously tomorrow. Well, Listen in farsi. In any case, probably need a decent night’s sleep.
Night all.
Night TexBetsy. Sweet dreams.
TexBetsy @ 105
Loo Hoo. @ 106
You too my friend.
nite betsy
newtonusr @ 100
Whew, there I go again… It’s been a hectic day for me! I shall bid a fond adieu to the Lake! Aloha Oe…!!!
I’ll join the crowd in saying goodnight and see if I can avoid staying up til sunrise…
Ed*ard Teller @ 110
Yeah, I meant Mary Kim.
It’s only right.
Posted at the Anchorage Daily News minutes ago:
Three months after a federal jury convicted him of seven felonies including bribery, former [ALASKA] state Rep. Tom Anderson acknowledges that he broke the law, violated the public trust and must be punished.
Anderson didn’t testify during the 10-day trial this summer. But he fought the charges and until now maintained publicly that he was innocent.
His sentencing hearing is set for Oct. 15 before U.S. District Judge John Sedwick. A pre-sentence investigation report recommends he serve five to six years.
In a memo filed with the court on Monday, Anderson’s lawyer says he is seeking “leniency, compassion and mercy.” Except for the circumstances in the corruption case, Anderson has been a “tireless and selfless representative and advocate for the people of the State of Alaska,” wrote defense lawyer Paul Stockler.
Anderson, a Republican who represented East Anchorage for two terms, shouldn’t be sentenced to any more than two years and nine months, his lawyer argues.
really late to the party, trex. skippy compares and contrasts the dw’s last high to bowie’s ashes to ashes.
ET, wonder if he will try for leniency now and start to cooperate with the feds?
*waving to skippy, my favorite ‘roo*
Ed*ard Teller @ 114
Yes, because his client said that if he’d known he would be caught, he would have never done it. Therefore his inability to see the future argues in his favor.
Surprised he isn’t asking to have the whatever sentence commuted due to “insufficient metaphysical resources”…
morning all.
waving to sunny from the still middle of the night west coast
Hi Sunny!
Suzanne @ 120
and from where the ground is now starting to feel like concrete setting up.
I know that if I were involved in public corruption, I would have figured the TIME ahead of the act. I would not be begging for leniency, compassion and mercy.
If you’ve got the nerve to gamble on getting rich without getting caught, at least have the self-respect to take the sentence without being a cry-baby about it. Geez.
below freezing now, et?
How cold is it up there, ET? Still warm enough for sandals and short sleeves here in San Diego…
loohoo, he would probably have been given an offer of leniency in return for cooperation pre-trial and refused it.
Hi everyone! I just flew in from the UK, and boy are my arms tired…
Hi, going off topic here because I wasn’t around for the attacking Iran thread. I looked thru the comments there (backwards from 200 til I quit at #100…just wanna show I did due diligence), and found noone treating on a certain aspect. Lots of very relevant remarks on how it’s a disaster for the ME and for us in the long run, but no comment on the following.
No original thinker here, I remember reading this at Billmon’s blog. You guys at fdl are so good at your thread-intro graphics, I wonder if you could work this up: a simplified map of the area, that includes of course Iraq & Iran, but that also dips down to include all our ‘back-country’ troop- and supply-staging areas in Qatar, Kuwait, SA, the Gulf, etc.
The purpose: to demonstrate the NUMBER-ONE reason an attack on Iran is madness: our horribly vulnerable supply line, with emphasis on the fact that the Shia in southern Iraq would close off our troops’ escape route like a vise.
In other words, never mind the consequences on the ME: If we attack Iran, good luck extricating our fucking army. Stalingrad ring a bell much?
The kitties are making it difficult to concentrate. They want to cuddle in bed. I moved my comfy chair into my office so I read in here. I swear, the cats think I moved it in for them. They immediately like took over.
LL!
Welcome home, LL. Great to see you! How was the trip?
Suzanne @ 126
Ha! Add two years for stupidity!
Hey newt and Loo Hoo! The trip was fantastic…my internal clock is all screwed up tho’, hence the lateness of my presence right now *g*
27 degrees F now. It will probably be about 22 at its lowest tonight. The weather has been spectacularly beautiful, though. The locals call this time of year “Septober,” to highlight the incredible fall colors and rapid change. If it clouds back over, it could warm up and rain, or dump a lot of snow, depending on where the low pressure comes from. The ground is bare here, but in Anchorage, there’s a light dusting of snow in the northern facing clefts.
welcome home, ll
Oh, ET, if you get time please share some pictures. I haven’t had the pleasure of seeing Alaska yet. (Outside of the beautiful National Geographic type pics.) I don’t remember seeing pictures of Alaska in the fall, though.
et, forgive my ignorance, but in the winter, do you go completely below freezing all day and all night?
Thanks Suz! I missed you all, and hope everyone is doing well :-)
LL, do you have a British accent now? Are you having tea and crumpets these days?
didja lift any kilts for me ll?
Loo Hoo. @ 136
Your wish is my command.
Welcome back, LoudounLib!
Suzanne @ 140
Heh, no ;-) Did see plenty of kilt shops in Edinburgh though, and I told my friend what you’d said ;-)
Suzanne @ 137
It varies considerably. I’ve seen it go from minus 25 F to plus 45 in less than 24 hours. High pressure comes from the Arctic, low pressure comes up the Japanese Current. They are different interest groups. They meet here and discuss their differences.
ET, thank you! Your description of the weather in Alaska right now sounds lovely.
Loo Hoo, try as I might I’m still a “Yank” according to my friend, try as I might to modify my NoVA accent ;-)
LoudounLib @ 142
dang
Welcome back, LL! I’ll have to hear more about your trip across the pond tomorrow, since the bed is now singing a siren song and I cannot resist.
Nite, all. See you in the morning.
G’night TOW, sleep well!
yikes, et… i guess i gotta stop thinking of alaska as being like the north pole
did you send any of those pics to chs?
So I didn’t have the chance to check in here at FDL at all while I was gone. What’s the latest f*ckery? Any new outrages? In the UK it’s all Gordon Brown, all the time.
been nothing but fuckery all the time you were gone, ll – ya’ll gotta lotta catching up to do.
ET! Thanks, those photos are beautiful, just gorgeous. Looks like you will eat well, and the trumpeter swans are it! I have a stained glass window of a swan with her head almost tucked under her wing. Love swans. And the mountain range, and of course, Diane Benson.
Alaska is beautiful and I want to go up to visit but I’m not sure about all that snow and ice. Been a CA girl since I was 10 and it has made me soft.
Suz, I can imagine (sigh) — the f*ckery never stops eh?
LoudounLib @ 149
Here, in the MSM, it’s all “How Can We Keep on Pretending it is OK, When it is so Fucking Obvious the GOP are Monsters!” on one side, and, on our side, the Dems not being able to deal with the ossified upper crust of their leadership.
24/7 ll, i swear. craig is still here – mmkkk is swiftboating a 12 yo kid, bush veto’d SCHIP for political reasons, etc etc etc. the hubris never stops and the arrogance grows.
Suzanne @ 155
Wait, wait — swiftboating a 12 year old kid?! Wassup with that?
Loo Hoo. @ 151
I wouldn’t dream of killing or eating a Trumpeter swan. Migratory birds are diminishing so rapidly, it is frightening. Local grouse, OTOH, are another matter. They seem to be doing fine, and are delicious.
Basic fuckery-
All republicans hate Bush and can’t figure out what went wrong. None of them are anything like Bush.
Larry Craig has a wide stance, but is being inducted into the Idaho Hall of Fame.
George Bush love little children, but doesn’t think they should have medical benefits.
Blackwater is killing Iraqis at random with no accountability.
What else?
Oh, LL, it doesn’t pay to be away. There’s no catching up! (Except that it does pay in mental health!)
btw ET, just took a look at those pics in your link — so beautiful!
Ed*ard Teller @ 157
OMG! I meant your vegetables look so wonderful that your family will eat well. I’ve never heard of anyone eating a swan, and wouldn’t have dreamed it!
think progress has the details, ll
Loo Hoo, that’s a great synopsis there, thanks! On the whole I think I was happier with the news coverage we saw from the BBC as opposed to what’s fed to us by our own MSM.
Suzanne @ 161
Yep. Recommended read. Be prepared to shower soon after. These people are filthy.
Loo Hoo. @ 160
They’re tough, I’ve heard. When I got to Alaska, there were only a few dozen breeding pairs left in the world. The first guy I worked for, Pete Islieb, was one of the people who set it up so they were protected enough to make a comeback here. But their wetland hideaways down below are being diminished so rapidly that their numbers are once again going down.
newtonusr @ 163
Good lord, yes — that is just disgusting!
Some prime snark over at Skippy’s
go read the rest…
Suzanne @ 166
Heh, that’s great ;-)
ok, time for me to head out to bed – gotta get up early (and hopefully in time) to save my chaise on the deck from the forecast rain tomorrow g’nite all
g’night Suz, sleep well — I’m not far behind you (yawn)
Night Suz. Why not bring the chaise in tonight so you can sleep without the worry?
Skippy’s best line:
“That was the straw that broke the camel’s back,” the Devil said. “I mean that literally. I had camels carrying all of Limbaugh’s sins around.”
tis too big and too heavy for just me to carry it, ll – gotta wait for tomorrow and a co-carrier. *poof*
whoops… shows how tired i am.. that was for loohoo, not ll…
speaking of *poof*, sure miss AK.
Suz, I can totally relate ;-) Long day over here as well with all the travel and crossing time zones…I’m surprised I can even type!
Oh Loo Hoo, I know. Was hoping that in my absence something might have changed, and AK would have rejoined us :-(
He hasn’t even put up a new post since Sept. 24th… I wish him the best.
Ok friends, must try to get some more sleep and get my body clock adjusted. Good night all, I’m really glad to be back home (but a part of me is missing the UK)
Night, LoudounLib. Welcome to the USA. da da da da da da da. Living in the USA!
Great tune there Loo Hoo ;-)
Loo Hoo. @ 176
Loo Hoo – do you mean posts @ FDL? Seems Alfred posted this at his place on 10_5…
newt, thanks for the AK link — wish he’d enable his comments so we could say “hey” to him ;-)
Thanks, newtonusr. I was looking at ratiocinations, thinking everything was there!
That was spacey!
Loo Hoo. @ 182
I was surprised to see so many blogs linked to his initial site. I check every few days.
Night, newtonusr.
LL – I don’t know if anyone listed this amongst the f*ckery that occurred while you were gone, but Limbaugh shot himself in the foot (like that never happens). Why does Rush hate Americans?
nite loo hoo!
Thanks for the friendly welcome. Hit and run unintended – was called away for a bit.
I’ve only been to Alaska once – spontaneous unstructured trip. Breathtakingly beautiful and somehow spiritual. Easy to imagine spending a summer bumming around by ferry. Winter, not so much :)
Congratulations Oilfieldguy!
Funny… just the other night I was hanging out in a dive bar with some friends and the Dandy Warhols were there (at least some of them) with their entourage.
I haven’t really sought ‘em out (nor have I ever seen them live – weird cuz they’re from my town), but I like what I’ve heard.
morning! (sorta)
yo
morning, selise
howdy earlier birds! been up for a couple hours… just hanging out with my insomnia. ’bout ready to give up and get some coffee
Mornin’, gang -
selise – Ah, yes…..insomnia. Had it bad last night which means today is gonna be pretty miserable. :-( One of the things I *do* miss about being younger was the ability to crash for eight hours in deep zzzzzz-land.
Should be an interesting day……assume msm will have something to say on the subject of the 12-year old being trashed by the thugs; of course, it will be couched in “liberal” negatives. Bet freddie hollywood’s minders are having a bit of heartburn today. ;-) joe blow still defending “mercernaries” to the hilt. Paging Jim Webb!
oh no, not you too Waccamaw?
well i just made a pot of coffee, so it’s going to have to do double duty today.
i think the dems are supposed to release their proposed changes to fisa today… don’t know if it will go to committee (i hope!) or be brought directly to the floor. but, i’m pissed that once again the aclu was cut out of the process.
selise -
Yup, unfortunately.
I’ve simply run out of hope wrt the Dims growing anything that resembles a spine. Like every other progressive, so much hope and nothing to show for it. Just once, just one bloody time I’d like to see something go our way but it never seems to happen; fisa being one more example.
Sorry to be such a downer; think I’ll pick my scowl up off the floor and go out for a short bike ride. Catch up with y’all on the flip. Am gonna call ALL the phone numbers listed for McIntyre this morning about SCHIP; it ain’t gonna be pretty (especially with no sleep)!
Good morning, pups. Today the NYT has Bobo and Bob Herbert. Bobo continues his mid-life crisis, with something he typed called “The Odyssey Years.” Mr. Herbert says it’s time to put the brakes on teaching to the test and maybe do some real teaching.
http://mgpaquin.wordpress.com/
The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got waffles for y’all today. It’s so foggy here you can barely see across the street. Have a good day.
Waccamaw @ 197
last week i was getting emails from the aclu asking us to flood pelosi’s, reid’s and our rep’s phone lines with calls on fisa (this would have been while the dems were writing their bill).
i wonder if all the requests from the dem leadership to help them override bush’s veto of schip wasn’t meant to distract us from focusing on fisa last week – when we would have the most leverage.
not that i don’t think children’s health care is important (maybe more important than fisa)… i just hate getting played. and fisa will be very hard to change if we continue towards a national security / police state.
As an American on a Fulbright fellowship, I spent the last year conducting anthropological research in Mexico. Invariably, one of the first questions I was asked when I tried to begin an interview was, “Are you here to spy on us?”
Even after full disclosure of my university employment, publications and current research design, I found myself blocked out of some potentially useful interviews. Headlines like “Army Enlists Anthropology in War Zones” (front page, Oct. 5) will make future research all the more difficult.
The identification of anthropology with military operations, intelligence gathering and “armed social work” augurs ill for the future of a discipline that studies populations distrustful of power — many of which have had unhappy past experiences with American invasion, occupation or support for corrupt dictatorships.
in the NYT:
Anthropologists thus need not be antiwar or skeptical of the Bush administration to oppose the enlistment of anthropologists in counterinsurgency operations. All one needs is a clear view of the discipline’s bottom line.

Jeezus…that’s extremely disturbing. Always amazes me when they launch into these feeding frenzies, and how the “facts” they uncover do not back up their initial slanders, but they just keep repeating the initial lies anyway.
To go after this young family with several kids just trying to get through this time is incredible. As anyone with several kids knows, until the last one gets out of the toddler stage, this will be one of the most trying times of their lives, and to have the freeper goon squad coming after you during this…can’t even imagine.
And MalKKKinites justify it by saying the family put their kid out there, so he’s “fair game.” How about the family is just trying to protect something that has helped them so much, and millions of other families, and not having a corporate funded lobbyists to fight for them, they did whatever they could to help keep SCHIP?
Never ceases to amaze that the freeper “investigative sqaud” can continually turn a blind eye to things like invading countries with nothing to do with 9/11, or an Attorney General breaking laws at a breathtaking pace, but they choose to go after a young family just trying to pay the bills. Freaking unbelieveable.
Good morning and thanks for the coffee.
bonkers @ 201
it’s a lesson to the rest of us proles not to get “uppity”.
Morning all. I see that Homeland Security just rounded up 1300 gang members. Is this an issue for DHS? I thought they were concentrating on terrorists? I’m telling you, it is their intention to incarcerate a huge number of minority members (or at least make them felons who can’t vote) before the next election.
solai @ 204
linky?
if this is a topic that interests you, i recommend this hearing from thursday. i didn’t listen to it until this weekend, and was pleasantly surprised – jim webb chaired it. if you are interested, there is streaming audio of the hearing archived at the website, or let me know if you’d rather have an mp3 (i already ripped one and could upload it).
I heard the story on the Today Show about the round-up of gang members. Went surfing for a link but can’t find one yet. Should be one soon, though.
solai @ 206
thanks! but, i didn’t mean to make you go looking… just wondered where your info was from. will keep my eyes peeled for it. not good news – dhs should have nothing to do with gangs.

Article 1 http://www.wsws.org/articles/2…..i-o6.shtml
Article 2 http://www.newsday.com/news/lo…..8008.story
Just read the articles, even worse than what the Today Show said. This is becoming a scary country for foreigners. On a related note: My favorite Dr. is Egyptian. He’s absolutely brilliant and is responsible for saving my hearing. Every time I go see him now, he’s wearing a flag pin on his lapel. I worry for him. I hope he’s not sending any money home.
Good Morning!
solai @ 209
yes, even for legal immigrants.
i note how health care for legal immigrant children is removed from schip and there is barely a peep (did only kucinich complain?) from the dems in congress or the blogosphere or anywhere that i know of.
seems like immigrants are either invisible or targets… not good.
New thread–it’s Christy
Good Morning, Firepups!
It’s muggy and warm here in central Jersey. Forecast calls for temps in the high 70s today, which is better than the 90° we hit yesterday, while I was getting some of my fall planting done [birthday gifts from my mother and sister went to astilbes, a new peony, and lots of bulbs: crocus, grape hyacinths, and daffodils]. I need to wait for much cooler weather to plant the bulbs, but I did get the astilbes planted, and will get the peony planted on Sunday.
I’m so discouraged reading about the Dems cave-in on tougher FISA legislation [see this article in the NY Times]. Is it possible to do mass spine transplants?
I’m having iced coffee this morning, and a big bowl of fresh fruit. Help yourselves.
Work for peace, every day.

And there will hell to pay for the Gulf Coast Monarchies where the US also has several military bases.
Every Southern Gulf State is a Sunni monarchy with substantial Shiite populations. According to the US State Department Bahrains Shiite MAJORITY has “often resented minority Sunni Muslim rule.” Kuwait’s Shiite minority is 30%; the United Arab Emirates’ numbers 15%; and Qatar’s is 10%. Oman, has “a small but significant population of Shiite Muslims concentrated in the capital area and along the country’s Batinah coast.” IOW’s an attack on Iran would likely send these States into chaos, with “behind the line” attacks on US troops and institutions based in them. Not only would the Gulf oil shipment routes risk blockage…but the production in these States, as well as the regimes, endangered.
The destruction of the US Army and Marines in Iraq, long-term blockage of the Persian Gulf oil resources and an energy crisis that will make the one in the 1970’s look like a hiccup. The escalating prices on fuel would likely spur a new Depression. And there is no guarantee that any of the regimes would be at all sympathetic to the US…in fact there is reason to think that it would consolidate the powers of the Ayatollahs.
Trex I can’t get this song out of my head.
