Fred Thompson tries to square his record with the current campaign.
“And that’s sumthin’ worth thinkin’ ’bout.”
Hee hee.

Fred Thompson is a joke!!!
hi TJ !
neurophius @ 2
I think we should haul his wife in for elder abuse: making that nice old man campaign for the Preznitcy.
Nice, Teddy!!!
OT:
sell house sell
;>)
TSF!
Hi Teddy. Thanks for hosting us tonight.
thanks, db (smiling bestest movie star smile)
tj, did you let downstairs know nicely that you got the zed?
yup
There is irony in the fact that the Republican presidential field for 2008 was widely perceived as being mediocre, and a need was seen for a new candidate to enter the race. Enter Fred Thompson, the great Repug hope to win the White House. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Did someone say mediocre?
well, i told them that there was a new thread. i saved my gloating for here.
excellent, tj, thanks
Has Fred ever done anything to benefit America?
neurophius @ 12
It would hard to be worse than GWB, but Fred would come close.
How the Obama fundraising juggernaut got built by Julianna Smoot. Looks like if either of the two current “front-runners” win the nomination, it’ll be a woman’s victory.
lol, great vid
neurophius @ 12
maybe nem keeping powder dry for…… Unity ‘08!
Fred “Never heard of Terry Schiavo” Thompson, the last of the Cold Warriors, still fighting to save Amurka from the Soviet Union.
This is supposed to be “Big Week” for the Fed corruption trial up in Alaska. I’ve only heard solid rumors, but I do believe the really smelly stuff – as opposed to the smelly stuff we’ve already seen and smelled – is about to pass through the fan. And splatter. Alaska is already the most fluid political situation in the country.
I’m sure Teddy or another Bay Arean already posted this, but just in case:
“wurth” a read.
Ron Paul has a better chance than Fred.
Ed*ard Teller @ 22
w00t!
Geez, ET. Keep us posted! I love it when people who thought they were too smart and connected to get caught, are caught.
Ed*ard Teller @ 21
Will there be more indictments? I love the smell of GOP indictments in the morning….
Highlarious clip. Uhm, can we change his name from “Frederick of Hollywood” to something more suitable for his ugly mug?
I vote for Gollum.
punaise @ 22
Finally! The will to fight is there…
“We need to fight back and not be reluctant – that if they come after you with a knife, to pull out a gun,” said California Democratic strategist Chris Lehane, former spokesman for President Bill Clinton’s White House and Vice President Al Gore’s 2000 presidential campaign.
Oilfieldguy @ 28
Dead Fred?
Speaking of Thompsons, whatever happened to Republican presidential candidate Tommy Thompson? His campaign was over in the blink of an eye.
I wonder if Fred bought him off to sew up the Thompson vote…
TSF – supposedly more than ten this week….certainly, by the end of October.
Ed*ard Teller @ 21
woohoo, getting ready for snoopy dance
Ed*ard Teller @ 31
Ten separate individuals???
Fred (as Fred Dalton) seemed dumb in his TV role.
My impression hasn’t changed – something dull and passive about his affect..
neurophius @ 30
Two many jokes about the Thompson Twins.
CTuttle @ 33
10 legislators? state and federal?
Ed*ard Teller @ 21
ET -
Saw you mentioned this on an earlier thread. Do ya think this will include stevens the elder, or only his son?
Oilfieldguy @ 27
Works for me. *g*
Understand he’s finally gonna show up tonite (Monday) for his first debate……trying to decide whether to risk the ill effects by watching a few minutes of same or just read ’bout it on the blogs.
Suzanne @ 36
Aw, c’mon ET, inquiring minds wanna know!!!
crossing fingers and hoping the alaskan’s clean house and indict every single corrupt legislator – let alaska show the rest of the US how it is supposed to be done – please
Suzanne @ 40
As Alaska goes, so goes the nation!
Suzanne @ 39
What a marvelous portent for ‘08 that would be.
Go Alaska!!!
Suzanne @ 39
In this regard, if it makes ET happy, it’s fine by me.
newtonusr @ 42
Alaska may be the big bang tipping point on a whole lotta levels…and not a minute too soon IMHO.
Jesus… Fred looks better in Claymation than he does in real “life”…
i agree npb
(npb, it was great hooking up with you and sandy today and token sends doggie kisses to you)
ThatSinger @ 44
Smoother complexion…???
ThatSinger @ 44
Fred Thompson: a balding Herman Munster
Actually the rumor machine is cranked. I heard a certain “Stevens’s” set of indictments yesterday, but that one is “iffy.” I’ve heard “fish” a lot, but the only one that keeps coming up in local blogs is “pollack,” so it isn’t related to the Kenai River shenanigans of Lisa Murkowski, Ted Stevens and mobile home mogul Bob Penney.
I’ve heard “ten to fifteen seperate indictments” several times from solid sources. Times like this, I need a private investigator, not a slightly overweight bodyguard.
nice to see ya again, that singer – been a while (or else my memory is really failing)
Ed*ard Teller @ 48
Most Excellent, ET!!!
Ed*ard Teller @ 48
thanks, et, for the update – got my fingers and toes crossed for the whole kit and caboodle of em to be indicted, cuffed, processed, and then tried.
Suzanne @ 51
Don’t forget “convicted.”
…and “sentenced.”
i figured the convicted was a given but you are correct, never assume what a jury is going to do.
convicted. and imprisoned. no pardons.
… and “imprisoned!!”
I want whoever the Democratic presidential candidate to have to face Ron Paulneurophius @ 47
IMHO, all three of the GOP frontrunners will self-destruct, which will leave Paul vs St. McCain.
That battle will be a sight to behold! And, I pray for a Paul win, because I’d love to see Hillary face someone who (on foreign policy) is far to the left of her.
TeddySanFran @ 55
Amen, Teddy…!!!
TeddySanFran @ 55

Suzanne @ 45
Awww – right back attcha.
Are you sure Token is a pooch and not really Yoda lurking beneath his firepup disguise?
neurophius @ 47
heh, heh…..
wigwam @ 57
How the hell does Unity 08 fit in?
wigwam @ 56
Dang, Wigwam, then it’d really be a choice between the lesser of two evils, Paul might win out then…!!! ;-)
neurophius @ 53
as she cuffs ‘em, Suzanne sez “Welcome to the GOP Criminal Justice Continuum.”
i wish i was there to do the honors, et, but will leave that to my fellow officers in residence
time for me to give up and go soak my back in a hot batch again…. the first cold spell is always a rough one to aclimate too
see ya’ll tomorrow nite

Suzanne @ 64
Bonne Nuit, Ma Cheri!!!
twȝk @ 61
IMHO, another Clinton is “politics as usual.” That’s not to say that I’d vote for Paul over Hillary, but she’d have to trim her sails. My official position is that “all options (including nuclear) are still on the table.”
Suzanne @ 64
Sweet dreams Suz and all your furry friends great and small in Redwood country.
Ed*ard Teller @ 65
That may be closer to the truth.
wigwam @ 68
So Unity 08 is some sort of DLC wet dream?
Uncrashed just in time to say goodnight to Suz.
You still there ET? If so, let me say how much I appreciate your comments at the Lake. And, I knew you when you were just a tiny pup. Remember? xoxoo VG
I shall bid Ya’ll another fond adieu! Aloha Oe!!!
Ed*ard Teller @ 65
707! You guys are fabulous!
ok, the meds are getting to me.. make that a hot bath and not a hot batch
thanks tj, glad you are uncrashed.
ct, aloha
npb, thanks again
tub is full and i’m off… (poof)
With laughter, I shall wish you all a goodnight too. Thanks for sharing my night.
twȝk @ 70
I see unity on principles and policies, but not on personalities and parties.
Given the choice between a Republican who’ll bring the troops home immediately and disavow attacks against nations that have not attacked us and disavow torture and spying on American citizens and internment w/o Habeas Corpus vs. a Democrat who will not commit to bringing the troops home before the end of her first term and who insists on keeping nuclear attack against Iran on the table, and who has not been speaking out strongly on matters of civil liberties, I’m keeping all my options on the table.
wigwam @ 77
It sounds to me like both of those candidates ought to switch parties.
nite TJ

Meaning, perhaps, that “Unity 08″ is a scam to undermine the Democratic Party?
Ed*ard Teller @ 81
My honor, ET. Absolutely.
Valley Girl @ 83
One of the best things you taught me is that it isn’t OK to trash TRex’s pad, but it IS tolerated, as long as you come back and clean up afterward…
Glad you’re here, ET.
As for me, snoozing awaits.
nite pups
Ed*ard Teller @ 84
well, you have a much better memory than I do on that account. ;) but I do remember when the w got changed to *. {{{{ET}}}}
Peter Ackerman
Sounds like a treat :/
CD @ 80
Sounds like another bipartisanship-ploy to me. We all know where those go.
Speaking only for myself, I’m an outraged progressive. I won’t compromise, not even for Hillary. If she gets the nomination, she damn well better show me better progressive credentials than Jamie Gorelick, Michael O’Hanlon, Martin Indyk, and Haim Saban. I’m not impressed with those she’s hanging out with — they’re neocons, which is politics as usual.
Valley Girl @ 86
Bill Clinton’s fault…
twȝk @ 87
Sounds like a treat :/

Small world! Ackerman happens to be a member of Unity 08’s advisory council.

How could Bush become a “war president” without military means?
Ed*ard Teller @ 89
And no one who has not been here since forever will know what we are talking about!!!! (Hint- something about typewriter/ keyboard keys)
Poor Fred, figured “WTF? I’ve got as good a chance as the rest of these losers.” The Republicans have nuthin’, and I mean NUTHIN’.
Valley Girl @ 92
My mother told me that in her day, they had to use O and l for 0 and 1 (captal oh and lower-case el for zero and one).
Depends upon the direction the weapon is pointed and for what purpose.
One of my secret informers just provided me with a link re: the keyboard issue.
The White House vandal scandal that wasn’t
~~”Incoming staffers of the Bush White House,” Grove wrote, were “apparently victims of a practical joke.” Bush aides in the Old Executive Office Building (EOB), adjacent to the White House, discovered that “many computer keyboards in their work spaces are missing the W key — as in President Bush’s middle initial.”
Some W keys were discovered “taped on top of the doorways,” while others were broken. ~~~~
Tech @ 93
So, it appears that Paul has some real traction with the young, and with some folks who have money. On domestic policy he’s a libertarian nutcase or worse. But on foreign policy, IMHO, he’d shame most of the Democratic candidates, and I’d love to see that. Most especially, Hillary would have a lot of backpedaling to do.
Tech @ 93
They have the entire media complex, owners and Villagers, on their side, plus the entire military industrial complex at their command until January 2009. Don’t count them out, yet. Oh, and Diebold.
On that note, ‘pups, I bid a fond good nite.
So long, and thanks for all the fish.
hey ET – if you’re still around…. thought you might want to know something i found while putting together the weekly list of congressional hearings today (yesterday, now)…. it looks like joe lieberman is going to be visiting you this week:

9 am – Senate Homeland Security
Field hearing: The State and Federal Response to Storm Damage and Erosion in Alaska’s Coastal Villages (Anchorage, Alaska).
Good night, Teddy.
Freddy makes Ross Perot’s selection for VP, Admiral James “Who am I? Why am I here?” Stockdale seem like a paragon of preparation.
CTuttle @ 28
The back-channel on all this was that it was funded by big-time out-of-state Rudy Ghouliani supporters. Which explains why Rudy was spending so much time in the State that he knew he couldn’t win outright. He had to know what was going on. After all, Rudy certainly is cognizant of why they scheduled so much time in those Republican districts in the Central Valley and Orange County! Rudy was out to “game” the system in California.
And if these big money people from outside the State thought this was so fair for voters…why weren’t they pushing it in other States, too? But you won’t find any such measures being forwarded in any Red States by these folks. I wonder why? Sure, they have a special place in their hearts for California voters.
That special little “black spot”!
Quite frankly why any voter would have supported this change to Californias Constitution…which would have devalued the average Californians vote in the Electoral College by half; and made Californias clout in the Presidential election about that of North Carolina…simply befuddles me.
It’s also an essential admission that Republicans are unlikely to win a majority of California voters to their philosophy for a very long time. Even Arnold pointed that out…saying that it would be a prescription for the Repugs to push even more extreme Republicans into the Presidential race…rather than reach out to independents and Democrats and win the election outright.
wigwam @ 56
The irony would be that she REALLY MIGHT have to start being less aggro in the foreign policy arena. Someone pointed out that Hillary has had two “policy makeovers” this campaign already…where her statements have changed to more nuanced.
Maybe her views on Iran and keeping troops in Iraq can be altered as well.
wigwam @ 67
Paul might be able to win in the General Election given the fact that he is staunchly pro-life and up to 20% of the Right Wing Republicans say that they won’t support a candidate that isn’t Pro-Life. Throw in the libertarians…plus the vitriolic Clinton-haters and anti-war voters that don’t trust Hillary and you may just have enough to win against her. In that case I hope that a TON of Progressives win Congressional and Senatorial seats to block his other initiatives. Hard to think of who he would nominate for the Supreme Court over the next few years.
And I think if Paul does very well in the Republican primaries and still doesn’t win the nomination he may just go “Independant”. That would likely kill the Republicans, despite siphoning off the above groups to Paul.
Cinamonape @104
“Maybe her views on Iran and keeping troops in Iraq can be altered as well.”
————-
or her *purported* views.
SunnyNobility @ 106
Well. If she is being misquoted…or her nuances are being omitted…then it will at least comel her to clarify them.
Personally I suspect she needs to REVISE them. She really shouldn’t be talking about the use of nuclear weapons in the context of Iran…or any other nation. That’s just sabre-rattling. And her statements that she’ll keep forces in Iraq for “anti-terrorism” activities pretty much means they’ll be there permanenly and likely will continue to be involved in the civil war with the Sunni and Shiite militias…since these groups will target the “occupiers”, not just their opponents.
To me her remarks that she will “end the war” during her term almost is reminiscent of Nixon’s “I’ve got a secret plan” statements in 1968. She doesn’t outright say that we’ll fully withdraw and leave it up to the Iraqis to govern/defend their country , and do so come hell or high water.
Good morning!
Stupid Google Reader trick

Mea culpa. Meant to say professed, not purported. Big difference!
I agree with you and only wonder whether she is expressing politically calculated or honestly held views. Either way, worrisome.
Good morning, pups. Today in the NYT Roger Cohen writes about Carol Ann Gotbaum who died in the Phoenix airport and remembers his mother in a column titled “Terror and Demons.” Paul Krugman points out that far from having “strayed from true conservatism” W. is its very model.

Morning egregious. That wow! activity near the moon continues. Appears to refract light differently from run o’the mill stars.
Good Morning, Firepups!
It’s clear and mild this morning in central Jersey. We have one more day of summer weather, and then the temperatures will fall the rest of the week to more seasonal weather [days in the 60s, nights in the 40s]. To those of you with a holiday today, enjoy the day off.
Mr. NJP and I are planning a long weekend in the mid-Hudson Valley in November, our first getaway since his parents’ health problems began last April. We’d like to pick a charming village, and are looking at Woodstock [no, it’s not where the concert actually happened; that was Bethel], Saugerties, and Cold Spring. Any suggestions from NYS Firepups are welcome. Lots of historic sites are only open seasonally, and close at the end of October, but the big ones are open: FDR Home/Library/Museum, Val-Kill, Mohonk Mountain House, the Vanderbilt Mansion. We’re less interested in being tourists, and more interested in stopping in great villages, time to catch up on some reading. Not sure if we’ll go to CIA for dinner [that’s the Culinary Institute of America, a great cooking school, not Spook Central], but would probably prefer smaller places. We deliberately planned to go after leaf season, so things would be quieter. As Noel Coward once wrote, “I always go too early or too late. I arrive in China just before the next revolution.”
Coffee’s ready, and there are fresh bagels and cream cheese this morning. Help yourselves.
Work for peace, every day.
SunnyNobility @ 113
So beautiful.

They divide up the Left, so nobody can challenge. Everybody on Hillary’s left is left to running for veep, and that ain’t right.
