I don’t know about everyone else, but I have a J.D., not a Ph.D. And considering Preznit Short Attention Span has an MBA from Harvard, and an undergrad from Yale, he can drop the phony baloney Texas good ole boy accent any time.

I’m old enough to have an LlB from the University of Texas School of Law. When Texas U. School of Law adopted the newfangled J.D., legendary Texas lawyer Warren Burnett bought a bunch of the new J.D. diplomas from the Texas Bar for about $7.00 each, and passed them out to his friends, myself included. For a while we were all calling each other doctors.

The response to the newfangled degrees was so massive that the Texas Supremes had to tell lawyers that it was unethical to hang both the LlB and the JD on the wall.

Texas Law was smart enough to deny Bush entrance when he applied for admission. A shame that the quality (!) Harvard and Yale people were not similarly inclined.

I have no idea who was alleging Bush had this meeting, but I guran-effing-tee Bush never said “How do I speak to the soul of America?” And how about “The conversation was rich and deep for more than an hour and a half.” What a load of crap. How dumb do these guys think we are? Dumb enough to have elected a low grade moron in the first place I guess…

I for one believe the author of those lines, hook line & sinker.
“We were told four years ago that 17 million people went to bed hungry each night. Well, that was probably true. They were all on a diet.”

“When I asked Hersh who wants to bomb Iran, he said, “Ironically there is a lot of pressure coming from Democrats. Hillary Clinton, Obama, and Edwards have all said we cannot have a nuclear-armed Iran. Clearly the pressure from Democrats is a reflection of - we might as well say it - Israeli and Jewish input.” He added the obvious: “a lot of money comes to the Democratic campaigns” from Jewish contributors.”

From a story linked at Huffington.

A claim Edwards receives a significant portion of his campaign money from Jews or from AI*PAC?

From the guy who says he won’t take money from lobbyists and who is going for federal matching funds instead of wide-open contributions?

Sounds like somebody saying they’re all the same, so we might as well settle for the cackler.

First and foremost, Jim Wallis needs the media to continue to quote him as a Serious Person as well as The Evangelical Spokesman Of the Left. It’s Wallis’ main role, it’s how he sells his books and goes around the country as a speaker. And in order to do this, he MUST go out of his way to praise President Bush and be generous in his praise to fellow Republians. And he must make an EXTRA effort to dump on Democrats and liberals. Hence his book title: God’s Politics: Why the Right Gets It Wrong and The Left Doesn’t Get Ot.”

This praise of Bush as listening better than most presidents was meant to be a slap at Clinton and Carter.

I have always been underwhelmed by Jim Wallis

Only slightly off-topic: can anyone direct me to possible sources to help my best friend pay for her chemotherapy?
She’s over 4 years into ovarian cancer, the last chemo hasn’t been working, and they want to switch her to one that might work but she can’t afford–over $800 per month (or maybe even per dose, she was so overcome I could not understand her).

They have been wiped out financially over this all ready in the first year of treatment, her HMO is hounding them (they’ve found some devilish ways to overcharge her) and sending her account to collections. She’s in Washington state, and I don’t know what resources there might be, googling didn’t really net me anything except to send her to social services at the hospital. Duh.

She can’t work (hasn’t the stamina, can’t stand that long, the chemo sucked the calcium out of her back and she’s still recovering from back surgery) and her husband is working but all their money is going to their mortgage and her health care.

I’ve asked her to send me the name of the medicine and the manufacturer, thinking maybe they have a program to assist patients–is this a possibility, or am I dreaming?–

It drives me crazy to think that there might be something that could save her but she’s too poor to afford it. What a cruel country this has turned out to be.

Why is it when conservatives are told that they can never understand the plight of a poor man or a black man, that’s a legitimate complaint…but when the President actually admits that he cannot understand the plight of the oppressed because he’s never been there where they are, you ridicule him for it? Another prime example of why liberals have no credibility (kinda like how the Dems started the carnage of Vietnam). Hypocrisy rules. And BTW, if bombastic stunt reporter Chris Matthews is your hero, more power to US!!

I, too, called Rep. Baron Hill’s D.C. office, 5th out of the 5 listed above. After saying what had become my piece about a pediatrician friend’s interest in the treatment of asthma because he saw so much of it among his patients, and my own (covered, thank God) adventures with asthma last winter, I asked whether Cong. Hill might be persuaded to support SCHIP. Staffer said that it had been a hard decision: Indiana’s SCHIP program, she has been very well-run for the past 10 years, & recently raised its tobacco / cigarette (?) tax in order to pay for it. She said that the financing of the new bill would however make Indiana an SCHIP donor state to the tune of about $300,000,000 per year (apparently as a result of its good administration), while it would get only about $50,000,00 back. She said that people in Indiana are not doing well economically. So while the Congressman supports SCHIP, he felt that he couldn’t support this funding method. I can’t do fact checking on this. But to the extent that this is accurate, isn’t it a wakeup call to Democrats for more fairly-crafted legislation?
