What I want to know if Bush has declared that all Emergency Room care is free from now on. That’s what I hear him saying. The last time I took my kid to an Emergency Room I got a pretty big bill. I thought I had to pay it, at least that portion that exceeded my insurance. You mean that was supposed to be FREE???

My ex-boyfriend (who did not have insurance) got bit by a rattlesanke a couple of years ago. The Emergency Room bill was over $25,000 for one visit. That was supposed to be FREE?

My GOD! I to hell with the clinic, my kids are going to be at the E.R. from now on for everything from shots to surgery. It’s all FREE!!!

The veto SCHIP is just one way the President is nipping the prepub*sc*nt culture of dependence in the bud.

Ok, I just called Rep. Roskam’s office (Illinois) — he’s a repub and almost never votes the way I want him to, but I never give up hope that if enough people call and tell him they disagree, he might worry about losing his office next time…and capitulate. :-)

I just spoke to an aide in Rep. Denny Rehberg’s (REP) office to thank Denny for voting for S-Chip and asked whether he would support over-riding the preznut’s veto. He said Denny is absolutely committed to this bill and would vote to over-ride IF NO OTHER AMENDMENTS WERE ADDED.

only time i’ve been able to thank him for anything

FWIW, I agree with you that this bill isn’t good enough. But the alternative to this bill isn’t a better bill, it’s no bill — and that’s just not acceptable.

is that really so? who would vote against if legal immigrant children were covered? wouldn’t the pressure then be on them to vote for it anyway if it couldn’t be passed without their votes?

in a way, this reminds me of teddy’s posts on the ENDA.

and i think the people responsible for pulling coverage for legal immigrant children should be paying a heavy price.

Sure. But if any of the eight House Democrats who voted against the bill don’t vote to override, and the override effort falls short, they are going to pay a very heavy price.

well, i only know why kucinch objects - not the other 7.

and i think the people responsible for pulling coverage for legal immigrant children should be paying a heavey price.
