Veteran Eric Massa:
My name is Eric Massa and I'll go on your show any time, anywhere to expose you to the American people because what you're doing is wrong. It's destructive to this country and it's hurtful and destructive to our soldiers who are serving in Iraq. You're a pompous coward and it's about time someone called you out on it....You did your best to dodge military service while hundreds of thousands of men and women wore the uniform to give you the privilege of misusing the radio airwaves to spread propagandistic lies that are wholly inaccurate about our military service members....You might have a lot of weight to throw around, but it doesn't carry a lot of weight with me.
Massa is one of our Blue America candidates, running for congress in NY-29.
It's picking up steam.

The double Whammy.
Miss Nancy, Rahmit, ‘Gutless’ Reid and ‘Chucky’ say this issue is ‘off the table….’
Sorry.
good for him!
amazing live blogs today -
Wow! Massa pulls no punches!
Scottfree @ 4
I’m going to need the summary. Work and life got in the way. HATE when that happens.
I understand that Rethugs put forth something to commend Limbaugh just yesterday. Does anyone know how that worked out?
Interesting. The windbag’s finally hit a large enough nerve?
Bagged on women, disabled people, LGBT people and so on and on for years and years and years, and now finally with the phony soldier, FINALLY people are saying, enough?
Mind you, I’ll be more than happy to see him go. But I’m not forgetting the years he got a pass either.
Ann in AZ @ 7
that wasn’t a joke or a piece from the Onion?
Good for Massa (I contributed to him in 2006!).
Boo to the six Democrats who voted to condemn MoveOn, but not Oxycontin man:
Bayh
Johnson
Kohl
McCaskill (I donated to her too…never again)
Nelson (Ben)
Pryor
well, zen, er, zed.
Ed Schultz is on Hardball, and he’s condemning him too…of course.
Are we seeing a huge blowback from the ginned-up MoveOn outrage? Ah, the irony of the universe…
Jane gets some press at TPM Election Central.
I think that Congressman Udall’s resolution to denounce Limbaugh is the most insane BS I have ever seen. Limbaugh is despicable; but it is not the job of the United States Congress to be determining what is and what is not acceptable free speech. Especially on political speech issues. The same principle applies to the GOP resolution against Move-On; which many Democrats inexplicably signed onto. The people running our country are apparently just ignorant and carefree when it comes to the United States Constitution and what it stands for.
Quite frankly, it is arguably an unconstitutional act for Congress to make such a determination on propriety; even though it is non-binding, it still serves to chill free speech. It was not appropriate on the Move-On ad and it is not appropriate here. Anybody who believes in the Constitution and First Amendment should be violently opposed to these resolutions.
As to a Congressional act, as apparently Mr. Mass would advocate, to remove Limbaugh from the Armed Services Radio Network, that would not be quite as offensive, but still suspect for the above reasons. Would it not be better to let the Military make the call and also have them make a fair determination on other things they currently preclude from the liberal sphere. some type of “fairness doctrine” approach for the Armed Services would be appropriate without Congress specifically voting certain speech in or out.

oops, sorry folks, my pages are loading poorly.
Good on all these folks, for wahtever good it will do.
I’m dropping in to say that I will not be able to visit for awhile, having eye surgery on Thursday to repair a retinal detachment and will be very limited for a week or so. I’m going to have young son look into text to speech as I’m down for at least 4 weeks and believe I will go totally nuts if all I have is radio. I would ask for strong energy about 7:30 on Thursday and will be back ASAP.
Blessings to you all

If it was, it was listed on yesterday’s story, and I read it several other places, I believe. See my #7 again for the update.

I’ve had that surgery via laser. Worked out fine. Good luck!

Hey Zen

bmaz @ 15
limbough is disproportionately represented on those airwaves
his opinion is far from center and there is no excuse to have his representation outweighed over center opinion, over left opinion, over right opinion, he his extreme , he’s not even close to concervative, it’s extreme, it’s wing nut
if there were equal representation from other sides of opinion you would have a point
since he is not equally represented your point fails
bmaz @ 15
The military is making the call, or more to the point, the Bush zampolits are making the call. Rush is on the air, and competing views from the left are NOT. So I think Congress has a role here.
My congressman Lamar Smith here in Austin has somehow blocked my ability to send him emails from my computer. I have sent them to him often and I think he’s blocking my IP address because tried from a different computer and it gwent through. Scumbag - has anyone else experienced this from their Reps?
Tell it like it is. Terrific straight shooting, and ASP I am sending that man some money.
Melanie Morgan is jumping on the LimpBalls phony soldier wagon-
A number of, of, soldiers who are fake, or who are embellishers, or who are posers. Who go out there, or soldiers like Jon Soltz from VoteVet.org who go out there and use their far left, anti-America agenda. Political agenda to undermine the real mission of our troops, our heros who are out there. link
Doesn’t the army block access to librul news sources, including this Blog? In which case, how could they conceivable permit access to this raving lunatic?
btw, loving Rep. Obey’s Iraq surtax proposal.. 15% surcharge on the rich to fund the war. 2% for middle income wage earners. Make it 25% for rethug plutocrats and you’ll end the war in about an hour.
Pat Doyle @ 24
I’m in San Antone and also have the execrable Lamar as representative. Mine still go through but it’s not because I don’t call BS often enough. And the phone calls always work as well. Though neither option actually seems to be effective.
good luck zennurse.
And Pat Doyle? Outrageous! Who does this guy think he works for?
Incredible interview with Sy Hersh on Democracy Now Sy says “Iran keeps saying we can help you”. Hersh wonders why the American public is not demanding the Bush administration talk with Iran. “Talk talk talk” with Iran.

When Amy asks Hersh why Hillary voted for the Kyl Lieberman amendment Hersh says ” money lots of Jewish money from New York come on let’s not kid about it” Hillary had to tow the line.
Listen to Sy Hersh on Democracy Now for yourselves.
Yes! Nail that bastard!
We should all keep in mind that Ari Fleischer’s pro-war TV ads with vets talking about fighting the terror are not at all like the “phony soldiers” being used as propaganda tools for the extreme left.
dakine01 @ 28
didn’t you know that rethug congressmen only actually represent their rethug constituents? Everybody else is ignorable. It’s not that your views as a constituent don’t matter to him, it’s simply that you don’t exist :)
perris @ 22
Proportionality of representation of the two sides has NOTHING whatsoever to do with my point. that is totally irrelevant to what I am talking about. My point is based strictly on the edicts and spirit of the Constitution and it’s various historical underpinnings and interpretations by the courts.
A collective roasting of Limbaugh going on. Rush looks good with an apple in his mouth and his head up his ass.
Lots of articles about Blackwater over at Salon
http://www.salon.com/news/feat.....ater_bush/
My favorite part.
Kathleen @ 30
Good for Sy! Hope that lets some of the wind out of her sails. That vote should be positively the last straw for her; it proves that she never learned a thing by giving Bush a blank check on Iraq. Now she’s giving a blank check on Iran.
Zennurse if you are still here, you may enjoy this radio network. Archives are here.
Wes Clark has a petition you can sign to ask your lawmakers to remove Limbaugh from Armed Forces Radio link
ifthethunderdontgetya @ 23
I understand your point. that is why I had less of a problem with the “remove Limbaugh” act than the condemnation of what is clearly free speech. I still think that it is somewhat problematic for Congress to be determining this; I would much rather there be some type of “fairness provision” than a specific determination of voices and content. Maintaining the principles and morals of the Constitution itself is far more important than an occasional uncomfortable result. The determined effort on the part of Republicans to bend and deform the Constitution and to interpret it to serve what pleases them, as opposed to what it stands for, is a great deal of what is behind many of the problems this country faces at this point in history. The Constitution is about more than fucking Rush Limbaugh, no matter how cretinous he is (and he is completely cretinous).
checked and i did sign that petition already..wonder if it’ll make a difference…..
puppethead @ 32
No those Ari Fleisher adds are far worse that Limbaughs stupid remarks. Ari Fleisher did his best to send those soldiers to Iraq and then uses their loyalty one more time to push his warmongering and perverted agenda. Ari Fleisher took a major role in outing an undecover CIA agent whose job was National Security.
Limbaugh should be off the air, but Ari Fleisher should be in jail for life or hell which ever comes first for undermining National Security and being part of the team that lied us into this unnecessary war based on a “pack of lies”
Massa seems like a fine man.
Rush could have been in uniform at some point. For example, he could have been a french maid on a Halloween. Or even if it wasn’t Halloween.
bmaz, of course, you are right on the principle of the matter - but I wonder how well the Military itself will adhere to principle in this situation.
I would bet that the Military would have blocked his blog if he had written a ‘phony soldiers’ article that was read by thousands and thousands of soldiers.
They certainly seem to have taken great pains to block left-leaning sites for much less…
Ann in AZ @ 37
Here is Hillary doing a back flip on her vote. Talking about Co-sponsoring the Webb Amendment.

Ann in AZ @ 37

HRC is definitely NOT the 1!!! you want more bushco? thats ole hil
Thanks, I needed the laugh.
Kathleen at #45:
That was Hillary once again trying to straddle the line between giving permission and saying she didn’t give permission. You know that once they get the legislation that she recently signed, Bush is likely to say that was all the approval he needed from Congress. Even I read it as a blank check, why shouldn’t he?
radiofreewill @ 44
That is right, and something should be done about it. I am not saying I have the answer, but i am saying i know what the answer should NOT be. We are better than what the Rethuglicans are and how they go about things. Having Congress proscribe what is and is not acceptable free political speech is what they would do, and have done. The second we do it too, we have just made it acceptable and destroyed yet another part of the most beautiful document in the world.
Go get ‘em, Eric!
The sad thing is that Rush isn’t very popular among the captive audience forced to listen to him by Armed Forces Radio. Polls show that the troops would rather hear music programming instead.
Phoenix Woman @ 53
The troops would rather have porn.

raven @ 54
Beer, would be a big hit…!!! ;-)
I would rather have porn.
Where do I find Newshour?
They’re paying for it, you eat it, Limbaugh.
Kathleen @ 42
I was being snarky and failed. I meant to point out that while the GOP decries the “phony soldiers” as being leftist propaganda tools, they’re busy exploiting those who have suffered loss in the Iraq Occupation for their own political agenda.
I agree totally that those Ari Fleischer ads are beyond disgusting. Rush is a buffoon and a gasbag, but those TV ads are the worst kind of victim exploitation imaginable.
ADM @ 57
I don’t need porn. I get Telemundo.
Ah yes. Telemundo. I enjoy watching many spanish station programs, even though I do not speak the language.
Oh, Boy! Obey is finally growing a spine…
“I would be more than willing to report out a supplemental meeting the President’s request if that request were made in support of a change in policy that would do three things.
– “Establish as a goal the end of U.S. involvement in combat operations by January of 2009.”
– “Ensure that troops would have adequate time at home between deployments as outlined in the Murtha and Webb amendments.”
– “Demonstrate a determination to engage in an intensive, broad scale diplomatic offensive involving other countries in the region.”
“But this policy does not do that. It simply borrows almost $200 billion to give to the Departments of State, Defense, Energy, and Justice with no change in sight.
“As Chairman of the Appropriations Committee I have absolutely no intention of reporting out of Committee anytime in this session of Congress any such request that simply serves to continue the status quo.”
Can you believe it??? 8-)
bmaz @ 15
I couldn’t agree more…what’s sauce for the goose…
The sad truth is that if you want to take the moral high ground; if you think concepts like first amendment privileges are important for all US citizens, then you have to allow that they apply in the most extreme and unsavory circumstances. There are no circumstances more unsavory than Mr. Limbaugh and his blatant hypocrisies, but he has the right to say all the stupid shit that falls out of his mouth and we have to hope that, someday, the rest of the public will come to see his sense of morality is completely bankrupt. You’d think we’d already be at that point but, sadly, no.

it was still very funny!
Dems in Congress keep whining about not having enough power, enough votes to do anything, but when they are asked for a supplemental, they lay down and turn their soft bellies up like puppies, wagging their little tails all along. Why don’t they at least make it as painful and unpleasant to Bushco. as possible. They should approve whatever money they determine to give him one quarter at a time. Also, it seems to me there has been talk about Bush having to give quarterly progress reports on the war. Make future funding contingent on those reports. Also, why can’t they demand an accounting of what equipment is being purchased, and such. Congress needs to understand what’s going on and they can’t do it without knowing what’s been done. No money should be appropriated before they personally talk to Fallon, before Bush crashes our entire armed force with his Iraq war. And those are just a few ways to make this President’s life miserable. These guys seriously need to learn to dish it out!
Kathleen @ 42
Ya ever notice how many of Shrub’s flunkies names have double meanings
Ari Fleischer

“America isn’t easy. America is advanced citizenship. You’ve gotta want it bad, ’cause it’s gonna put up a fight. It’s gonna say, “You want free speech? Let’s see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who’s standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours.” You want to claim this land as the land of the free? Then you have to tolerate one of its citizens exercising his right to free speech, like Limbaugh, in ways that drive you mad. Now show me that, defend that, celebrate that in your classrooms, chatrooms and blogs” That is the Constitution and what it is about. If you say you believe in it, then you have to defend it even for asswipes like Limbaugh. (These words were paraphrased from the movie “The American President”; but are very true).
I heard Sy Hersh’s interview with Terri Grose on NPR today on the Bush administration preparing to invade Iran. He discusses the support groups. Says they are no more informed on Iran than they were with Iraq. His voice needs to be amplified.

Yes, I saw that, and I liked it very much. But I am predicting that will not hold, and ultimately they will cave again. It is my fear that they will cave without even extracting a pound of flesh for their trouble. Nothing is stopping them from having an interminable number of votes and sending some things that will require a veto, and running out some time, and then finally, just in the nick of time, sending a bill that appropriates enough for three months and kicks the can down the road, like Bush is famous for doing. That’s at least a semblance of standing up to the bullies.

Obama to Urge Elimination of Nuclear Weapons
By JEFF ZELENY
WASHINGTON, Oct. 1 — Senator Barack Obama will propose on Tuesday setting a goal of eliminating all nuclear weapons in the world, saying the United States should greatly reduce its stockpiles to lower the threat of nuclear terrorism, aides say.
We can’t stop this war until all for us are paying for it, so I’m all for a big surtax. And now I’m changing my mind again about the Draft. I say bring it back and make us all pay for this occupation of Iraq.
And maybe even that’ll make it harder to attack Iran.

This morning at farmers market I mentioned to one of my favorite organic farmers that I was late because I was listening to the Blackwater hearings. She asked what was Blackwater. I gave a thumbnail sketch. She says she may have heard something about them.
My neighbor dropped in with her sweet Yorkie, my Papillon’s dear playmate. I was tired. I mentioned I was spending a lot of late hours connecting with NGO’s in Burma. She had no idea there was any unrest in Burma. For that matter, she wasn’t sure where Burma was located.
A friend IMed me and I mentioned Burma to her as well. She knew nothing about what was going on. Hadn’t heard a thing. She did know where Burma was.
I do this every now and again to keep my feet on the ground. It reminds me of what a small minority people who aim to be informed really are.
darkblack @ 126
whoa! now that’s ‘old tyme religion!’
bmaz, I feel your pain and do soooo agree with you. I do not want to silence Limbaugh, as dispicable as he is. Freedom of speech is precious and should be protected.
But. (Isn’t there always a but?)
Freedom of speech on Armed Forces Radio, isn’t FREE SPEECH! It is determined by a select group of people in the Army, the Bush administration, and perhaps congress who have determined what they should hear and what they should not. Selectively choosing what armed forces personel hear, IS limiting free speech.
For what its worth, I say let’em hear it all or nothing.
That includes internet sites which are also restricted.
Sixty something - I am good with that. No problem. Agree completely. It is when we get into Congress specifically addressing certain individuals and/or certain speech that I take issue, that is all. I am all for bouncing the obnoxious gasbag pill popping Limbaugh into oblivion; i just think we should be mindful to do it in a way that does not offend the Constitution. Republicans shred the Constitution in a split second to suit their whims; we are better than that.
about freakin time people got disgusted enough with lying blabber mouthes like Rush Limbaugh to call them on their shit.
thank you Eric Massa !!! thank you!
Sixty Something @ 133
Such freedoms are what it really is about and I appreciate those who remember this, even when it might be ‘convenient,’ more ‘pleasant’ or simply more expedient to ‘forget’ or decide that others (however repulsive or destructive their ‘message’), should not have those rights. Congress has forgotten, the ‘right’ never remembers and many people are confused. A healthy society would, periodically, just to keep in practice, discuss and debate the value and purpose of our rights and what the terms ‘freedom’and ‘justice’ really mean. Since we are an immature society and skirting disaster on an unprecedented scale, it may well be that we might not have the chance to do so ever again. We have wasted too many valuable and fleeting opportunities to confront our own arrogance and prejudice, choosing, almost always to evade, excuse and semantically distance ourselves from the truth.
darkblack @ 126
Here’s the one they can memorize: We’ll tell them this is kind of a synopsis of all of them:
