Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-PA), an Iraq war veteran, released a statement slamming Limbaugh too:
Someone should tell chicken-hawk Rush Limbaugh that the only phonies are those who choose not to serve and then criticize those who do. I served proudly, so did two of my fellow paratroopers in the 82nd Airborne who spoke out and died just weeks ago. Generations of American veterans have worn the uniform with pride and we know it is no contradiction to serve your country and still disagree with the Bush-civilian leadership that mismanaged this war.
Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) forcefully responds here.
So, I guess any minute now we’ll be seeing the House and Senate passing resolutions to condemn Rush “Hellmouth” Limbaugh for attacking the honor of our troops, right?
RIGHT?!

wow now brown cow.
hiya TRex
zed
g’evening TRex – I’m sorry about the TRex Trivia bit last night.
censure Rush?!
na ga hapn.
did someone let downstairs know
LoudounLib @ 5
We could always dream…!!!
Goodness gracious, great balls of fuckery!
now lets see if congress will even speak about oxycontin boy’s diatribe…waiting waiting waiting
TRex!
Suzanne @ 4
you may have started it, but *others* (ahem, c’est moi) aided and abetted…
juslin @ 9
Don’t hold your breath.
Hey ya’ll.
I know you won’t, but don’t hold your breath, TRex. It would be sweet to see just a fraction of the pearl clutching false outrage directed at Rush, Bill-O, Hannity, Malkin and the rest of the rabid right.
I guess LimpBalls is a comedienne today..
It’s free speech as long as you are a Thuglican.
Well the tide seems to be turning just a bit in my world — yesterday my dad spoke against the war, just weeks after sending out a mass email full of the usual “stay the course” talking points. I should have asked him if he still listens to Rush.
TRex @ 12
Maybe Rush could hold his.
LoudounLib @ 15
Hey LL, how’s things?
Suzanne @ 6
Oh, it’s not that big a deal. I was just jerking your chain.
I’m surprised you didn’t see if the readers could remember the names of both of my kittehs.
hi madmom, all good here — how’s about with you?
Evening all. C’mon, TRex. You know a Gooper can never dishonor the troops. He honors them just by mentioning them. Sort of like he serves his country by sitting on his pimply ass, swillng booze, smoking nasty cigars, and knocking back the oxycontin while spewing sewage.
I don’t know. If I had a personality like Limbaugh’s, I would be on painkillers too.
Thanks to Wes Clark being on top of this issue, I just emailed my challenge to The Comedian to have Jon on his show.
God it feels good to be hooked up to everybody else who’s fighting on all fronts for our Good Republic.
It gives me hope every horrible day that things will get better if we persevere.
TRex @ 18
I was trying to come up with questions that made ‘em think – and thought that would be too easy.
LoudounLib @ 19
I fear I am comming down with the funk. Those germ factories in velcro sneakers that live in my house have infected me with some dastardly virus. On the up side, I now have a distinct Lauren Bacall tone to my voice today. Sadly, that also means it will likely be a raspy wisper tomorrow.
someone should take out an ad.
Doe! Rush is rather bovine – how about MooFawn.org?
I am a slightly round little old lady and I could take on Rush Limbaugh cause he would run away. run run away
Rush Limbaugh, like Bill O’Reilly is an indecent blow hard. They do not deserve any time from Congress. They should simply be ignored by America. The tide is turning. Hopefully, the American people are starting to wise up (ever so slowly as usual). My fondest dream is that these guys would simply fade away to never be heard from again.
LIMBAUGH: The phony soldiers.
CALLER: The phony soldiers. If you talk to a real soldier, they are proud to serve. They want to be over in Iraq. They understand their sacrifice, and they’re willing to sacrifice for their country.
LIMBAUGH: They joined to be in Iraq. They joined —
CALLER: A lot of them — the new kids, yeah.
I see that they appear to be intellectual giants, hmmm???
Well c’mon you Dems who are so outraged. You have both Chambers. Someone introduce a resolution or amendment to a bill about this. Do one better and forget censure, consider fines or pulling licenses or something servere to any media outlet that airs such traitorous talk from this drug addict, Domincan Republic sex trafficker.
DO IT! NOW!
madmommy @ 24
Unfortunately, living with children is living in a petri dish. I noticed a profound improvement in my health when my son left home. 8-)
My 92 year old gramma could take on Rush Limbaugh (as soon as the cast comes off her wrist so she doesn’t have an unfair advantage)
madmommy @ 24
I hate that!
madmommy @ 24
aw, sorry ’bout that! hope it doesn’t get too much worse!
CTuttle @ 28
Intractable conservatism is classified as a mental illness in the DSM-IV. It is. I looked it up, I swear.
I just want to thank whoever it was in a recent late nite that motivated me to order Les Mccann and Eddie Harris – Swiss Movement CD. How wonderfully sweet it is!
marymccurnin @ 26
Poor Rush, that anal cyst that kept him out of teh Nam must be acting up again. That’s why he needs all those hard core pain meds. /s
TRex @ 34
I wish I didn’t know better. However, I wouldn’t be surprised to find Rush cross-listed under Narcissistic Personality Disorder.
I’m reading this thread, and listening to the TIVO of KO, on which he is taking down Bill O’Reilly. who was surprised to learn that African Americans are actually human beings, too.
Suzanne @ 31
Oh, to watch Suzanne’s gramma beat Rush down with her cast! That would be FUNNY.
disclaimer:I do not advocate violence, except toward mimes.
madmommy @ 36
I actually got my hands on the paperwork on a FOIA request. It turns out that it was the cyst that was excused from service for being on Rush’s ass.
madmommy @ 36
That’s no anal cyst. That’s his head, an easy mistake to make.
DrDick @ 30
No one ever warns you about this stuff when you take that adorable bundle home from the hospital. I had a longer list of instructions for my DVD player than I got when I left the hospital after delivery.
bonkers @ 29
Yes.
This would be a great campaign for some group….
like Move On.
EvilDrPuma @ 37
I know he is prolly listed in the WeightWatchers manual of what not to do.
Eureka Springs @ 35
The other one I wore out at the time was Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On.
Hugh @ 41
Don’t they lance those things?
RonD @ 39
So Rush has absolutely nothing to fear from you!
Suzanne @ 31
Gooooo Granny!!!!
Hugh @ 41
compromise?
cerebro-fecal shunt with fistula
madmommy @ 42
The sad secret of having children is that they do not come with an instruction manual. Your stuck trying to figure it out by yourself.
EvilDrPuma @ 40
707! And it hurts a sore throat to laugh that loudly. Still, worth it.
LoudounLib @ 46
I think you get in trouble if you lance someone’s head.
as i never listen to oxycontin boy i depend on the blog to inform me of his rants – so today i followed gen clark’s advice and had to grit my teeth and actually emailed the show and dared him to have jon on the show….y’all pray for me cuz i feel i committed a mortal sin…(now reciting 7 hail marys as penance for doing anything re that show) :(
That’s why God invented grandparents.
kirk murphy @ 49
OMFG! Bleach de brain.
DrDick @ 50
And all that crap about “parental instincts”? Just goes to show how fast you learn when you really have to.
bonkers @ 1
Much better than How Now Brown Cow. And why did we used to say that, for the love of all that is holy?
LoudounLib @ 46
They sent a dyslexic nurse to prick his boil. Bummer.
kirk murphy @ 49
ROTFLMAO! (Though I may need a bucket of brain bleach for the image).
DrDick @ 50
Thanks, now I know what to say if anybody comments on us not having kids–no way am I getting anything with customer support that bad!
EvilDrPuma @ 47
Situational ethics could require a temporary, momentary adjustment, should I ever encounter him in a dark alley.
I don’t have to advocate it to carry it out, right?
EvilDrPuma @ 37
It’s like the old saw that mood disorders are about what you feel but personality disorders are about who you are, which is why they are harder to treat.
BigMitch @ 58
707!

Wait right there. Don’t move until I get back.
Gonna go cook dinna.
Hugh @ 62

Loo Hoo. @ 57
It rolls off the tongue easier than “The Tough Cough Ploughs the Dough”.
So I’m guessing Senator Cornballs…ahmmm…Cornhole….ahmmm…Cornyn will “rush” right out for a new amendment condemning Limpdick…ahmmm…Limbaugh.
Heck, he can just scratch some words out of the old one and away he goes:
Come-on Johnny! Time to go marching home.
Loo Hoo. @ 57
was a typing exercise that was used to teach how to type
typing class had us typing it over and over – part of learning the keyboard finger movements
TRex @ 54
Yes, but you’ve got to wait for them to stop laughing first. “You think that’s bad? When you were that age . . . Bwahahahaha . . . “
Ha, best quote of the evening, I’ll bet EvilDrPuma!
GordonM @ 56
“Parental Instinct” = I want to do something, but don’t have a clue what I am supposed to do.
good_ight, d_a_!

If you actually went to his website you should probably disinfect your modem. You never know who or what you might come into contact with at sites like his.
Hugh @ 41
707!!!
madmommy @ 66
The happy secret of having children is that they generally turn out pretty well, despite our best efforts.
Peterr @ 72
Ah. Grandchildren. A parent’s revenge. Sweeeeeeeet….
good night dmac -
i can’t find the reference, but some study demonstrated that – when faced with partially obstructed letters – readers on mesc*line (?L*D) were better able to discern the text than were “sober” readers
good luck with the keyboard :)
LoudounLib @ 78
The rein’d-in spy’ng stays mainly in the plane.
Peterr @ 85
That too! *g*
DrDick @ 82
I’m not so sure about that. Some of them turn out listening to Rush Limbaugh.
TRex @ 54
Which only works if the grandparents are reasonably sane to begin with. All I know is that my mother is not the same person she was when I was a kid. I tell her she’s just an old lady trying to get into heaven by spoiling the grandbabies.
kirk murphy @ 84
oh shit, what does it mean then that i could read it? should i start singing happy trails?
Sandia Blanca @ 77
Yes, I would like to see Rush cowed.
Peterr @ 72
I seemed to recall eliciting that same response from my Mom from time to time…!!! ;-)
The damn war that, on top of all the death and destruction and ruined lives, is rapidly turning the U.S. dollar into the new Schrute Buck. I suppose they’re lying about the extra five minutes added to our lunch breaks, too.
Loo Hoo. @ 57
Wasn’t it something about speaking so that you will have nice rounded tones?
Suzanne @ 89
just wave your hand ….
trails will be there soon….
Well, I guess we know who Keith Olbermann’s Worst Person In the World will be tomorrow! Can’t get much worse than Rush!
AGKH!!
Please, no L*D! Brrrrrrr.
Hallucinogens were fun, but then they weren’t.

BigMitch @ 76
That would be “the rain in Spain falls mainly in the plain”.

you’re a bunch of meanie haters
Eureka Springs @ 35
I think it was me! I have had that album, and replaced it two or three times, since I was sixteen! Glad you love it. If it’s new to you please check it out!
Ann in AZ @ 95
Never underestimate the wingnut’s capacity for depravity. BillO may take this as a challenge from Rush . . .
EvilDrPuma @ 87
That is the result of our worst efforts and only represents about 28%, so the statement (”generally”) still holds.
TC Goes Wee Wee @ 102
Deal with it, pink boy!

ack, now I’ll have to go back and look *g*
Right after KO I got all wrapped up in Grey’s Anatomy and ER, thereby scrubbing my mind clean…
CTuttle @ 91
Every time I report the latest infraction to my mom she brings up a worse tale of woe from my brothers. Coincidentally, they are exactly the same age apart as my little guys, and I have flashbacks nearly every day.

Ok back to reading
from MSNBC, cut and paste
Sept. 27: White House Press Secretary Dana Perino offered National Public Radio an interview with the President if the White House could pick the interviewer. This is another attempt by the administration to bully the free press.
Suzanne @ 89
No, but you should be seeing them soon. ;-)
wangdangdoodle @ 113
We’re doing some meanie hating on Rush Limpdick. And it’s fun.
YouTube for parents, especially those of the female variety.
Set down your beverages first. You have been warned.

I was hoping NPR told him to fuck off.
I pine for the days of a more pulpy, fleshy, white jump suit Rush for good fulsome meanie hating.
DrDick @ 126
Hey WangDang!
Sandia Blanca @ 77
Totally! I heard him claiming that cow farts caused global warming about six years ago. He was calling the dems stupid, in his moronic way.
madmommy @ 135
They did, and good for them.
Of course, the reporter Bush wanted to have do the interview was Juan Williams. Bush then took the same request to Fox, who fell all over themselves to have Juan (who also works for them) do the interview there.
madmommy @ 122
Shoot, my sister and I tried hard enough… And of course, the Mother’s curse struck me with my daughter and son…!!! ;-)
Peterr @ 140

TRex @ 96
Do you still get the headaches? I get such bad headaches. You know at night when you’re driving a car? Maybe it’s something to do with the headlights.
Got to go to bed. G’nite, all!
Steve-AR @ 143
There is a God!!!!!!!
My brother and I kept trying to kill each other until we were 14 and figured out that we could work as a brilliant, two-part, parent-fooling team of coordinated lying. It was a major revelation that allowed us to get away with MURDER.
madmommy @ 24
Not sure if this is your style or not, but these have worked very well for my better half and I.
I’ve got 4 kids under 11 all in school and have not been been ill for over two years, until this week when I got complacent and didn’t take the Immune Blasts, and got a cold. One of those male ego moments, “Nah…I don’t get sick anymore.” Sho nuff…ended the streak that lasted through literally 20-30 various colds to go through the household.
I just take 2-3/day for a few days when one or more of the kids brings home a bug. I never take over the counter stuff anymore like I used to when I got sick several times a year. There is a transition period to get off the drugs, but I really think it’s worth it once your immune system gets strong on its own.
We can get them at just about any natural food store now. Drink insane amounts of water also. Hang in there!
I’m still waiting for that flashback I was promised.
Peterr @ 120
“you could put someone’s eye out with that!”
Goodnight, Peterr.
Hi, Wangdang!
dmac @ 99
dmac, goodnight. Thanks for the challenge, and please know that there are still services available for the *impaired*. Least I hope there are.
CTuttle @ 141
A powerful karmic tool that curse. Actually works for fathers as well. 8-)
Steve-AR @ 142
Now, that is the best news I’ve heard all day…!!!
Steve-AR @ 143
I think it’s not unfair to assume that lack of money = lack of interest. And it’s high time the initiative-drive wingnuts suck the pipe.
Steve-AR @ 144
Whoo-hooo!! That’s good news!
G’nite, Peterr!
CTuttle @ 141
That’s the thing. I was the good girl, never got in trouble at all. Really. The bro’s got away with way more than I did. But now I have the cosmic rerun of my brothers, and neither of them have kids of their own. It is grossly unfair that their genetic wierdness has been passed along through the gene pool to my kids, while they get away scot free.
wangdang, I heard this tune today when I was out and about, and thought of you *g*
madmommy @ 142
More like nerf ball.
wangdangdoodle @ 151
No doubt. I was promised it, I paid for it, it’s mine, and I want it.
Steve-AR @ 144
Most excellent news.

G’nite tjb.

DrDick @ 182
I wanted even numbers. As the oldest of 3, I knew that there is a constant power shift, and always a 2 v 1 dynamic. Plus more than 2 and the parents are outnumbered and therefore vulnerable to anarchy.
b/c i was on the lake all day no one cleaned the damn kitchen!! bye for now kitchen needs policing….well i enjoyed myself anyway today all day!!
When I was watching TPM’s highlight reel of last night’s Dem debate, I really found the affect of Hillary’s laughter strange, when she was confronted about having voted for Lieberman-Kyl amendment, which Gravel pointed out was a step towards declaring war on Iran. Gravel’s comment is at 3:20, Hillary’s answer at 3:55.
Anyone else notice that too? What do you think it meant?

Or a body-builder as Gov., ah, the land of the fruit, nuts, and flakes…!!! *g*
Steve-AR @ 143
THIS IS HUGE!!!!!
Along with news of San Diego’s county folks recalling elected poop’s who ENABLED Blackwater to develop 800 acres for a training facility, this is HUGE news for CA today!!

TOTALLY EXCELLENT, WONDERFUL, ALMOST UNBELIEVABLE NEWS!
Thanks so much, Steve AR!
The most brutal takedown of Rush limbaugh ever, courtesy of Bill Hicks.
*Warning* Not for the easily offended.
rush is a fucking creep …
It’s beddie bye time for me. Must take N*quil for the cold, and since I am such a cheap date if I don’t take it while in the bed there’s a danger of me passing out in the hallway.
Right, then, I’m headed home.
See you there.
goodnight, madmommy!
sleep well madmom, and feel better tomorrow :-)

G’nite madmama, safe passage TRex! I’m packing it in too. And tomorrow’s FRIDAY!!!
Nite WWD
Goodnight, Ms. Doodle!
marymccurnin @ 215
I mean Wdd
Good evening dear friends. Hope all are well.
g’night wangdang, will you be around tomorrow night? It’s my last night before I leave on a jet plane…
evenin’ Betsy, how are ya?
Night WDD.
Evening Betsy. How’s life in the Lone Star?
Hi TexBetsy!
Where are you going, LL?
Hello Betsy!
LoudounLib @ 220
Good, thanks. Just came from a wonderful dinner with my blood family and my family by choice. 15 people from ages 2-50. Full up and exhausted. You?
Ron, I’m heading to England — more specifically, Liverpool — for a visit with my friend over there :-)
EvilDrPuma @ 208
Best wishes doing it too.
Hi! So even the conservative freaks in OC wouldn’t cough up the cash for the “let’s steal some electoral votes in California” plan? Suh-weeeet!
TexBetsy @ 225
Sounds like a great evening :-) Doing just fine here.
I mean what you know, Mary!
I’ll be here, sistah!
wangdang — sweeet! See ya tomorrow then :-)
Seriously, isn’t it an easy case to make that the Dominican Republican Limpballs was using treasonous language? There should be severe penalties for him and those that put that on the air. This child has years of abusing the airwaves, and whatever the hell he was abusing in the Dominican Republic with viles of Vi*gra, and nothing ever happens, even with Dems in charge now? Is he still using “Barack the Magic Negro?” WTF?!?
An advertisement backed by facts and asking a question gets censured, but this drug-addicted hypocritical sex trafficker can insult our troops, many who have died or been wounded for life, and not have any consequences?!? ATTACK!! Why is this so hard to understand?!? Dems…he’s gonna insult you ad nauseum whether you go after him or not.
DrDick @ 212
Heh, I believe Waylon or someone penned one with that hook . . .
And to you, and LoudLib, I’d two step with ya, and then pick my fool head off, to anything and everything that Bob Wills ever did . . . N here’s a hat tip to Chubby Wise, too . . . just cuz I’m fiddlin around a bit . . *G*
LoudounLib @ 224
I am so jealous, in a happy-for-you kinda way. :)
Will you be requesting political asylum while there?
LoudounLib,
How long will you be gone?
Think I will call it an early night. I’m meeting up with Alicia, her mom, and her sister for sushi and then some serious honky tonkin’. I suspect I will need my rest.
RonD @ 232
Heh! I might just do that!
Mary, I’ll be there for 8 days.
LoudounLib @ 225

I think it means somebody is not giving her very good advice. She has this sort of forced laugh that turns into a cackle if it’s prolonged enough, and I detect the forced nature of the laugh. It just doesn’t sound all that natural to me, and she sometimes picks inappropriate times to laugh. Somebody should tell her to laugh more sparingly and to choose more appropriately when to laugh, like only when something is funny.
I’m leaving. Where is WWD going, and for howlong?
LoudounLib @ 249
Kewl, anymore quarters for the jukebox?
Loo Hoo, I don’t think WDD is going anywhere — but I am leaving for the UK on Saturday

Great news – wonder if the fact the Rethugs’ nasty little initiative is funded by out-of-state money (in possible violation CA electoral law)
and…
unconstitutional (re method Electoral College selection)
had anything to do with it.
Hee-hee.
Even the Rethugs’ senior creeps can’t get it right.
But their law firm – the creeps who hid the Swift Boat ghoul money funding the initiative – sure have the chops for evil:
Wonder if their gooper pals will ask the counselors to return their fees…for drafting an unconstitutional amendement.
What dismally failed Rethugs.
Couldn’t even get their power grab right.

CTuttle @ 275
Well, I might add this for you and RonD. I did appreciate the fact that when Timmeh asked the dems last night about their favorite Bible verse, Hill just quickly and dismissively said, “Golden Rule.” Everyone else fell for the bait. Really an ugly and UnAmerican question. She did a great job of treating him like an unruly child.
I still don’t get why Timmeh asked the bible verse question.
Why do they continue to let Teh Potato moderate anything more pertinent than the 8th grade class president debate at his kids’ private school?
LoudounLib @ 286
It was a “gotcha”. Make the Dems look like a bunch of atheists or something…sort of like asking Bush who the Prime Minister of Canada is.

Article II, Section 1, Clause 2 of the Constitution says, “Each state shall appoint, in such manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors…
is and can be construed to be the State legislature…!!!

They have two prime objectives in the United States.
1. Establish an Afganistan-to-America heroin funnel.
2. Crack down on medical marijuana.
Any para-military organization allowed to get away with murder will eventually take to smuggling guns and drugs.
Putting a murderous black market operator like Erik Prince in charge of “drug interdiction” is reminiscent of Nixon putting CIA thug Col. Lucien Conein in charge of US anti-drug efforts in the early 70’s.
Conein helped break the Corsican “French Connection” in order to facilitate the American-Sicilian crime families’ control of international heroin production and distribution.
Count on Erik Prince making a similar “Big Takeover” of US heroin distribution.
I don’t about any of you, but it’s a good thing Ken Burns’ The War isn’t on tonight. I’ve watched it every night, and it’s wonderful but quite depressing too. I need a break until next week. And probably record the episodes and watch them later.

It’s good, but I must admit, I’m somewhat disappointed. I was hoping for an inclusive look at the whole war, like his Civil War documentary…This one is not like that. This one is more like, The American Experience of the War.
Valley Girl @ 300
Who are those children up on that stage?
TheOtherWA @ 285
They are good, one poignant moment was when Sen. Inouye was describing a German who’d reached into his jacket and he butt-stroked him and photos came fluttering out, Inouye said wistfully, ‘That is War!’ 8-(

Shipping and Distribution = Profits.
And both Pub’s and Dem’s have been part of this trail for decades.

marymccurnin @ 302
Beats me! ;)
Hi CTuttle!
I agree.
But voter-passed (in CA) initiatives – even if Amendments to the State Constitution – deprive the CA State Legislature of the powers set forth in Article II, Section 1, Clause 2.
The (dumped) CA state initiative sought to arrogate to CA voters a power reserved by the Federal Constitution for the State Legislature.
[Or have I got it all screwed up?
Reading about Rethug law firms may have sposhed my brain.]
LoudounLib @ 295
Don’t be ashamed, that’s a much better way to do it. It’s a lot to absorb in a few days.
Plus the people telling the stories remind me of family members who only hinted at this kind of info. They never talked about it much. Actually, that may be my problem, now that I think about it.
I’ve been watching it in the afternoons on the repeats offered by my pbs channel’s ‘encore’ channel that shows reruns of the night before’s prime time throughout the next day.
Yes, I agree, it is the American Experience in WWII – and it was a small town personal experience that he documented.
Valley Girl @ 298
Awesome VG! Here’s 1 for the Mark Knopfler fans in the house! A perfect tune for our times.
marymccurnin @ 303
I’m not sure but they certainly show a lot of promise.
marymccurnin @ 299
Yes, they did. Medical pot user’s, growers, and others should be VERY wary, this ain’t gonna go down easy . . . . all bets are off, lives are now ON the line.

Doolittle and aides subpoenaed…again.
from Think Progress by Matt
Prosecutors have subpoenaed Rep. John Doolittle (R-CA) and five of his staffers, seeking “virtually every record including legislative records” for the past 11 years, according to Doolittle’s attorney David Barger. Prosecutors are probing connections between Doolittle and disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff, who is currently serving time in jail. Josh Marshall has more on Doolittle’s legal problems here.

I would still like to see a Burns-style docu on the whole war-from Japan in ‘37, to the Eastern front, Dunkirk, Battle of Britain, Stalingrad, Rommel, July 20th…there’s so much being left out of this one… a holistic historical document is what I’d like to see, all respect to Mr. Burns, and the vets whose stories he does tell.

Revealed: Sen. Jim Bunning Put Secret Hold On Presidential Records Amendment
from Think Progress by Matt
bunning.jpgLast week, ThinkProgress noted that an anonymous senator had placed a hold on a bill that would restore public access to Presidential records, which President Bush had sealed indefinitely with an executive order in 2001.
Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) was originally suspected of being the senator behind the secret hold until a member of his staff contacted ThinkProgress to “state for the record that” Sen. Coburn “is not holding this bill related to presidential records“:
The office of Sen. Tom Coburn would like to state for the record that he is not holding this bill related to presidential records. It is true that he placed a hold on the bill following its passage through the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee in June, but has since worked out his minor concern with the office of Sen. Joseph Lieberman at which time he lifted his hold.
With Coburn out of the running, the mystery of who was attempting to block public access to Presidential records continued. But now, the Sunlight Foundation has revealed that the senatorial hand behind the secret hold is Sen. Jim Bunning (R-KY):
Senator Jim Bunning (R-KY) now has an objection to moving forward with HR 1255, the Presidential Records Act Amendments of 2007. The bill would overturn an outrageous Executive Order that would keep presidential records hidden from public view indefinitely. […]
Now, whether or not he has had the hold all along, Senator Bunning has been forced to take responsibility for the objection. That makes us happy.
Tell Bunning to let the bill come to a vote here or call his office at 202-224-4343.

Actually, it was possible for the initiative to succeed, the voters have the authority to force the Legislature to amend their electoral process, all part and parcel of Cali State’s rights!
I agree, RonD – just his American Experience is what – 10 hours over 5 days and took how many years to research – 6 if I remember correctly.
The World Experience – wow, that would be overwhelming to try to do. I would like, however, to see other films that cover more – and better than that clint eastwood thang about iwo jima.

Probably the single most important event in recent history. The echoes of WW2 surround us every day, whether considering chaos in the MidEast, trouble in Korea, or even just a jet plane flying over…it surrounds us everyday. I truly believe it is impossible to understand the geopolitical state of the world today without a working knowledge of WW2.
JMHO.
Josh’s take on it:
RonD I totally agree. Working on acquiring more insight here :-)
Hey friends,
Just dipping in for quick minute. We just got back the Democratic meeting in Monrovia where Howie Klein was speaking.
What a great speaker! So much information packed into his brain. And, a really pleasant man, too.
Also met the Blue America candidate, Russ, who is running to unseat David Drier.
Met Mommybrain, who btw says’s Hi to Suzanne. She’s still back at the Peach Cafe cleaning up the mess we Dems made.
Met a lot of really nice folks tonight.
And, the man-cub went with us. His idea. He was impressed and learned quite a bit tonight, I think.
I felt good to be part of Something.
New thread. My timing is impeccable.
TRex @ 149
I fought with my younger brother more often than with the rest of humanity combined– mainly because he did not show proper deference to me, his elder brother. This lack of deference may have been due to the fact that we were almost exactly the same size at the time. {sigh} Life is so unfair! (*g*)
We’re on pretty good terms now.
Aloha,
Bob in HI
TexBetsy , thanks so much for that comment.
Now can Kos please plaster the goddamn story over every Senate Dems’ office door?
Jeebus – message to Harry – here’s how to block legislation.
Coming to Harry from the folks who do it to him – even when he’s Majority Leader.
Harry Reid – incompetent putz, or pliant tool?
Never mind.
Good news: any Dem Senator can place a hold.
Bad news: the Dems seem to have forgotten.
PS: By the way this isn’t a new power – KCRW’s station manager had her listeners barraging the Senate about a Senate hold on CPB funding back when NPR actually challenged power.
So we all know how many decades ago that was.
Dole was still propping up the Majority Leader’s staff.
Or somethng like that….
TexBetsy @ 326
i saw on the cable reports of demonstrations without the monks’ participation.
they said the monks had been confronted by the military the night before.
as if these were warnings and they just stayed away.
then images were shown from inside a monastery:
huge pools of blood were on the floors.

wow, the machine has hit a snag!!
CTuttle @ 328
CTuttle, I’m perplexed.
How does a state initiative trump the Federal Constitution, whatever Cali State’s rights may be?
The following diary isn’t the article I’ve been looking for, but it seems to speak to this issue (stridency of article not intended towards you, CT… :)
If you have time to shed any light on this, I’d be grateful. I don’t seem to understand something basic here, but I would sure like to be able to…
yellowdog jim @ 338
My language skills are far from fluent, but I think that the death projection I heard was only for the street protest (the one Burmese state media is reporting only 7 fatilities for). If there were other massacres and this was part of a general bloody crackdown, inside monestaries and stuff, the actual death toll may be horribly higher.
nothing like pointing the finger at someone else to deflect away from your own bullshit votes.
Murphy voted to condemn moveon, and now he’s making things better by pointin g the finger at limbaugh??
oh huzzah! Is Pat Murphy now the arbiter of accepted speech? In this case consistency is hogwash: A CONGRESSMAN HAS NO RIGHT TO TELL ANYONE WHAT THEY CAN OR CANNOT SAY. and that includes shitbags like Limbaugh.
So why no response when the right criticizes Petraeus ?
