So … in tonight’s debate will Tim Russert ask the question Matt, Chris and I asked in the Richardson ad: how many residual troops will you leave in Iraq? and will he followup until the candidates answer?
I’ve got my popcorn ready and I’m going to be watching carefully. Care to join me?
The LivingLiberally folks have provided a drinking game in case you need something stronger than my ice tea (with lots of lemon!) and Chris Bowers is – I think – at the debate so we may hear some good gossip later on OpenLeft.
I’m also planning to toss $5 into the BlueAmerica PAC every time I would rather throw something at the TV – since our work will need more better Democrats no matter who wins the nomination. (I may regret this!)
So …what question are you hoping to hear asked? and what’s the answer?
And while you’re watching: The Richardson campaign has launched a second version of the Get the Troops Out map – one which does not link your participation or email addy to the campaign itself. They are hoping that everyone – no matter which candidate they support – will add their video, photo or note to the map so we can show the inside the beltway crew that outside DC folks want out of Iraq now. You can join in at United to End the War. As the campaign explains:
Ending this war will take more than just one candidate, one campaign, or one group. Richardson for President understands it will take a united movement, so we are offering a version of this map without branding, and with a different data policy, to any group or person who can’t use our Richardson for President version.
So sign up and share the link to the map on your own blogs or with friends!

Hi Siun!
Hello!
Hi Siun!
SIUN!
Hi Siun. I’m watching.
Ready to watch and parse and dissect?
Siun, will you be offended if we go right off topic, and read later? Watching the debate…
So far . . . blah blah blah . . .more of the same old same old
Wow – $5 for BA already – Obama will leave troops to protect US bases in Iraq!!!!!
Did Chris Matthews just out-lib Keith????
Or was it just kinda skeevy?
He’s “warming up” to Hilary.
Bon soir mes amis …
Will Obama pledge no troops 5 years from now no troops, he can’t answer definatively. I believe we should have our troops out by 2013, no promises.
LooHoo – the debate *is* the topic … check the post since I included a little Blue America fun!
Obama will leave enough troops behind to guard U.S. bases – feh.
all troops out by 2013 – but no promises, mind you.
Siun @ 9
Your pockets may need to be pretty deep tonight *g*
Hillobama–can’t rule out troops 4 evah
Siun @ 9
You must have a lot of fives in your piggy bank..)
Hilla has her BushCo talking points in order.
Petrocelli @ 11
You watching…?!!! *g*
I am cheering that our question is opening the debate! wow!
Is there a stream of this anywhere? Radio????
Hillary in favor of partition – feh, again.
didn’t Hill vote for Kyl-Lieberman today?
I am going to depend on all the commenters to inform me on how these debaters are doing.
Clinton, same thing. Don’t know what the reality will be. Today I voted for a defacto partitian if the Iraqis agree.
We are trying every day to end this war as is Kucinich in the house. Being very respectful of her fellow candidates.
I hope y’all can keep me posted — for some reason we’ve lost our satellite signal. And, harking back to the last thread, I do apologize for that dork named Saxby that those other people (not me) in this state elected. I spotlighted that post all over the state…
CTuttle @ 19
Natch, TV has a Bullsh*t filter on … *g*
Kevster @ 23
Sho’nuff!!! 8-(
Kevster @ 23
Yes
Hill’s suit is AWESOME!
Who will be the first male candidate to deviate from navy blue suit?
Debate is MSNBC — online video stream.
zennurse @ 21
c-span radio
if you, like me, don’t have cable tv.
Siun @ 9
No wonder he wasn’t around to vote today.
Richardson is getting set up well-even Edwards coming up short on residual troops
Petrocelli @ 27
Dang, you’ll miss out on 99.9% of it…!!! ;-)
Siun @ 20
you so rock!
Marion in Savannah @ 26
Hi Marion, after the sorry display over the past week, I think there are a lot of people ashamed of their congresscritters.
This is the question I submitted through MSNBC. It will NOT be asked. (I may not have it exact but this is roughly it)
Troops? The question: Reserves? Our National Guard?
Our “Reserves” and our “National Guards”…think about it…to “train” Iraqi troops…to fight “Al Qaeda”???? To guard the Green Zone? Forever??? To provide security to the “diplomats”. Right. Uh..huh.
I have snake oil to sell the world…step right up…it may make me rich.
dakine01 @ 38
Great question. 0.000001% chance it will get asked though.
Edwards won’t commit to pulling out either, but says Hillary is continuing counter-terrorism mission.
Hill countered that she would want them out.
If genocide, Edwards says the whole world would be responsible to step in. We should be preparing with the international community now.
zennurse @ 21
found it, for anyone else, got to nhpr.org
(new hampshire public radio)
Have to stop now, had laser on my eyeball and can’t read much, but
Hi Siun, great post, great lady, big hug.
namaste to you all
zen
Mark Snowden @ 30
Not watching, but from a fashion viewpoint, what’s she wearing? Any of those zillion jackets that are all the same but are different colors?
selise @ 32
you are such a dear ;)
Edwards scoring a small point – will get all *combat* troops out over a few months.
Richardson – all troops out – end the damn war.
I hope Dodd gets equal time
Siun,
Sorry I jumped on Richardson’s record as Secretary of DOE at your thread about the video you made. I’ve since watched it a few times, and shared it. The video is excellent.
But I can’t get MSNBC’s link to the debate stream to go. When does it start?
solai @ 46
Will Kucinich get to open his mouth at all?
Oh oh… If you voted once or twice against MoveOn and free speech… will you be very careful to avoid receiving any financial support from MoveOn for the rest of your presidential run?
Richardson is moving up on my list…!!!
Eureka Springs @ 49
Ding ding ding!
Russert wants to know how Richardson would bring the war to an end in one year. Involve the neighbors.
ET – no problem, it was not an endorsement of Richardson but a collaboration on the issue …
and tonight I sure feel good about working with the Gov on this!
I’m moving toward Dodd.
Dodd says to use the power of the purse! New direction. He will end the war by the end of the first term.
solai @ 54
yep.
MSNBC’s web site’s video is messed up. Is there another way to watch this if you don’t get MSNBC on your TV?
Biden, sit your sorry ass down…!!!
Biden – there’s another $5 to BA!
may I just take this opportunity to say that Biden’s partition plan is fucking lunacy?
thank you.
Satellite’s back. What IS it with Biden’s face/makeup?
Biden is starting to get all hot already. He will commit to bring the troops out if there is not a political reconsiliation, because the troops would just be fodder.
selise @ 32
Oh, thanks, Selise!
Came in just in time to hear Richardson explaining why troops have to come out!
Is this Dodd now, after Richardson?
Siun, great picture in today’s USA Today
I’d give link to the story but for some reason I can’t find it – was there earlier
Kevster @ 16
weasels
Hillary’s pantsuit kicks ass on Diane Feinsteins.
I love Kucinich.
Ummm, how do you “set in motion a program of reconciliation” among people involved in a civil war? With no American presence? Sounds great, but I’d love some details on that…
they’re gonna have to stop inviting Kucininch – the man just makes too much sense. Screws up the whole process…
Kuchinich disappointed in the democratic congress. Reconciliation, not partitian of Iraq.
Pledges April of 2009 for full pullout after first saying April of 2007!
Kucinich!
5 happy dollars for Blue America!
Hillary seems to always be wearing orange these days. Maybe she’s a Kossack.
Everythingseemssoneat @ 66
ok, for us totally vain fashionistas out here who do NOT have cable tv – short description of suit – color, is the jacket shaped? Straight leg pants or tapered, etc.?
jayt @ 60
IIRC, he wants Iraq to become a loose federation, like America … not break them into 3 separate countries … or did I miss something ?
tejanarusa @ 63
Now Gravel…
Loo Hoo- It makes her feel better about supporting murdering a million people for no reason.
siun, how big a credit card did you bring this evening.
gravel sounds great.
Gravel bringing up LIEberman’s bill to authorize war with Iran
Go Gravel!!
Loo Hoo. @ 72
Please tell me she is NOT wearing a completely orange pants suit. OMG
NOW you’re talking — shove his war down his throat every single day. He can’t be elected, but I’m glad he’s on the stage. (Look at Hil’s smirk…)
Yeah grassly[sp?]!!!111
Thank you Mike!!!!
Stop laughing Hillary.
Gravel!
5 more happy dollars for Blue America!
$5 since HRC laughed … she doesn’t like Gravel getting it soooo right on Iran! good for him!
RevDeb @ 78
Shaming Hill for voting for it.
She laughed.
twȝk @ 82
Gravel
Gravel took Hill to the woodshed then she laughed.
Not funny, Hillary. Getting Bushco spin on Iran…not good.
c-span radio works….
Wow Hillary, where do you differ with Bush?
Gravel disparaging today’s vote on the Lieberman issue today.
Hillary gets a chance to respond. Buys the revolutionary guard going after our troops in Iraq. Blames Bush for outsourcing our diplomacy.
AnnieW @ 83
No doubt, going through her mind is the thought, “Well, that’s easy for YOU to say – I’m busy up here being the front runner.”
Ooh! Gravel: I’m ashamed of you, Hillary, for voting for this bill!
Hmmmm. I must have a time delay on my cspan radio — you’re all cheering Gravel while I’m hearing Timmeh asking Gravel the question!
TexBetsy … it was payday …
and I really need to do something so I don’t pop blood vessels after today’s votes!
Hillary is Bush in a wig.
Loo Hoo. @ 41
Dream on Johnnie. Fuck the place up and then ask the international community to bail you out? As a member of the international community, I say – up yours.
Which is strong language for me because I thought Edwards looked pretty good on a lot of things.
But I’m a Dodd gal now.
Not that it matters, not being an American and all.
Iran’s Army is a terrorist org., okay, declare war, Hill…!!! 8-(
Hillary’s suit. Lots of navy suits.
http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/i/ms…..e_601p.jpg
AnnieW @ 83
It wouldn’t be so bad if she didn’t seem to always end up in a cackle!
It’s a riot isn’t it, HRC? I’m really not sure I can vote for this person.
oooh – Gravel talking about the war with Iran vote!
Oh, that’s what you mean about Hillary laughing.
why am I so far behind?
Hillary likes Iran-as-terrorist meme. feh #2 for her.
Gravel just nailed Hillary for voting Aye for the Lieberman-Kyl amendment. He also nailed Obama for not even being there to vote.
I may not like Gravel very much, but I like what he just said.
Ann in AZ @ 100
yup and it’s getting on my nerves real bad.
Everythingseemssoneat @ 66
If taste in suits was evidence of presidential-ness, Hil would win for sure.
You gotta give Hil credit for being able to talk over Timmeh…!
*gah* Now, Syria…!!! WTF???
oh crap! now Hillary’s sayin’ Syria’s putting together nukes and Israel was justified in taking it out.
Well, Timmeh, STFU…
Marion in Savannah @ 107
with neocon talking points….
This debate is interesting so far.
lahoma.
Hillary, the Syrians were working on nuclear weapons with help from North Korea. Agrees with Isreal. Wow, she went on her agenda and didn’t listen to the question. This is a point she wanted to make, fer sure!
Eureka – I’m pacing myself …. but HRC on Syria, another $5 for Blue America!
Israel *justified* for attacking Syria in the mystery raid … in fact, that’s a $10!
CTuttle @ 98
Good grief, did she really say that ?
Which website has the time clock for each candidate?
Dick Cheney told Tim Russert to zero in on Hillary.
My first ever thank you, Dick.
Petrocelli @ 115
no
Marion in Savannah @ 107
Don’t gotta give Hill credit for anything. Well, perhaps blowing it on health care in 1993, voting for the war, backing off her support of MoveOn. Sure, I’ll give her some credit.
Obama equivicating….
Marion in Savannah @ 110
Heh, one teensy prob., he’s the moderator!!!
Timmeh’s lusting for war with Iran… Bleah…
TexBetsy @ 116
Dodd
TexBetsy @ 116
Dodd
OKKiddo’s awfully quiet — not a peep on the thread.
But there are probably impressions of his fingers embedded into the armrests of his chair.
AnnieW @ 120
and this is new, how?
Dodd’s site has the clock: http://chrisdodd.com/talkclock/nh_d_2
Oklahoma kiddo @ 112
Dang, you’re doing an admirable job, Ma’am…!!! ;-)
AnnieW @ 120
And is this a surprise?
Obama lost me there – late to get first-speak, and tried to launch too many issues in one speech.
somebody needs to clear up “nuclear power” as opposed to “nuclear weapons”…
Obama wants to understand the intelligence before going to war. Didn’t have specific intelligence on this Syria/Iran issue. Changing to pension funds not being tied Iranian companies. Will promise to keep Iran from getting nuclear weapons. Must use diplomacy. Unequivical support of Isreal.
Millineryman @ 129
not to me. wuss
Edwards has the gall to put America before Israel?
AnnieW @ 120
Appears to be one of his main talents.
RevDeb @ 133
yeah, I don’t go for him
Obama – “everything we need to do”
so talk about diplomacy but clearly signal you will back an attack?
Obama buying into the Repub framing of Iran as public enemy #1. It’s unbelievable to me that the whole discussion is framed by Bushco.
there ain’t nothin’ better than an FDL live-blog *g*
TexTeen is an Obama fan.
Dodd clock at his blog.. Scroll down a little.
http://chrisdodd.com/blog
Oklahoma kiddo @ 112
to say the least. we’re mere weeks away from this war.
Go, Edwards…!!!
TexBetsy @ 140
she’s got a lot to learn
RevDeb @ 133
Or me. Love the way Jane refered to him being a member of the Ostrich party for ducking another vote of substance today.
Edwards – Bush can’t be trusted.
Go Edwards!!!!
Tell it like it is, you can’t give Bush the authority to fight Iran, because you can’t trust him.
Today’s vote again. Russert won’t let it be discussed.
CTuttle @ 143
yes!
Edwards admitting again to his vote on Iraq, but saying that he would never vote to give this president the power to go to war again. He cannot be trusted to use the authority responsibly.
Edwards making a good point about Bush not to be trusted on Iran and the resolution should not have been passed…
seems obvious but glad someone said it.
RevDeb @ 144
HE. My son. Cass is a soc*al*st.
Millineryman @ 145
another Jane classic!
Edwards good on vote today but completely ducks answering himself about support for Israel attacking Iran!
$5 to counter Obama equivocating
$5 to counter Edwards for ducking
F*ck Iran. What about healthcare?
Everythingseemssoneat @ 134
Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. Shame on him, shame… Voted for him in the 2004 primaries, gonna do it again…
Russert – what a bozo.
Richardson wants to talk w/Iran – but thinks sanctions would be peachy.
So do Russia and China, dumbass.
PeteCO @ 154
They intend to.
F*ck Israel. What about healthcare?
Richardson is big on diplomacy. He would support Israel if it came down to it, but first get Syria and Lebanon in talks.
PeteCO @ 154
If we go after Iran, our healthcare issues may seem small.
PeteCO @ 154
You really want to listen to Hillary more? To talk about her re-heating of Edwards’ plan?
Alicia @ 156
second that.
Has Hillary explained her vote? I didn’t hear her do so.
Nice smackdown by Gov. Richardson!
I’m impressed with Russert tonight – he’s the first debate host to push the Iran and Iraq questions and we sure heard an earful!
WORST
MODERATOR
EVER
Does Timmeh understand he doesn’t get to pick the Democratic nominee himself?
His attitude is inexcusable and disrespectful.
Everythingseemssoneat @ 134
I’m sure his staff is working on explaining that mis-statement as we write.
Stupid Republican woman. Be afraid of brown people. What about healthcare?
solai @ 164
she thinks that the Iranian Rep. Guard should be labeled terrorists. OK by her.
When Richardson is good he is very very good……..
Richardson, no wall for immigration, talk with the Mexican govt. on not giving them maps, road to citizenship. Cannot deport everyone, unAmerican.
What the hell is Richardson talking about?
Who’s the idiot asking about “sanctuary cities?” And starting w/ Richardson! cute.
Doesn’t anybody understand that police have no authority to enforce federal immigration policy? This is not news!
solai @ 171
and when he’s bad he’s awful . . . teh gays, remember?
Everythingseemssoneat @ 173
comprehensive immigration reform
TeddySanFran @ 167
i like this better than the suck up and softballs. very good questions and some follow up.
Oh, damn… Sen. Biden suggests that reality exists… Bad Senator, BAD, NAUGHTY…
Joe Biden on Rudy – smack!
great Biden smackdown of Rudy!!
Biden gets big claps for calling Ghouliana the least informed candidate on foreign affairs!
Biden: Rudy doesn’t know what he’s talking about re:foreign policy.
Go Joe!!
My town in TX is a sanctuary city.
Loo Hoo. @ 72
Is it orange or “peach”? Peach is supposed to be the color of the Impeachment tribe. Is Hill getting ready to bust an unexpected haymaker?
Bob in HI
Marion in Savannah @ 162
I think most people are more interested in healthcare reform than war with Iran. It’s a distraction.
Frankly, I like this debate and questions. The energy level is way up.
Biden took a great shot at Ghouliani – “most uninformed person running for prez running on matters of foreign policy”
the very quiet audience applauded.
OldCoastie- That’s an important issue but I’ll bet he’d rather be at Bohemian Grove.
selise @ 177
That’s because he’s not questioning Repubs.
Better pic of Hillary’s orange suit.
http://d.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/…..6JA–
good job on Immigration from Richardson and Dodd especially … I like Dodd standing for New Haven …
the brownshirts want to close the door on brown people
Everythingseemssoneat @ 174
The Mexican govt has been known to hand out maps of paths across the desert, places to avoid, even certain supplies like walking shoes. In fact, there was a special walking shoe w/ a map printed on the insole, provided by a private group.
Siun @ 167
I’d bet dollars to donuts Timmeh is using Iran & Iraq at the behest of the Neocons … to split the Dems and make them look weak to the voters.
Alicia @ 190
I like this one better as well. Maybe we could have Keith moderate the Rethugs.
5 more happy dollars
PeteCO @ 185
We’ll agre to disagree then. An upcoming possible war with Iran has moved to the top of the list of things that concern me.
TexBetsy @ 191
DailyKos standard issue!
bobschacht @ 184
This one tonight is rust.
AnnieW @ 186
All the candidates are fired up in their responses, it is refreshing to see…!!! 8-)
bobschacht @ 184
No doubt about it. This is ORANGE. Bordering on bittersweet… with a red shell underneath. I’d love to see her bust a haymaker but I’m not about to hold my breath.
Whoa! Timmeh asking would you “allow these cities to exist?”
Does he want them blown off the map?
What a jerk.
There goes Kucinich – making sense again…
He’s so outta here… *s*
ditto Gravel.
punaise @ 199
Indeed. Emptywheel has the matching shoes!
solai @ 172
agreed
TexBetsy @ 191
TexBetsy – is the color in that photo “true” – on my monitor it looks like she’s wearing a suit in a medium rust, with a darker rust shell underneath. In either case, it’s a lovely color on her and definitely a differentiating color.
I think Hil’s suit is burnt orange.
the pansuit matches the background.
end of story.
CTuttle @ 201
so is everybody here!
Kuchinich on Americanism. Cancel Nafta. The question is would he allow the sanctuary cities to exist. Obama said nothing, Hillary says police cannot be immigrationa officers, or people will not report crimes. Local law enforcement has different job than ICE. Feds have failed.
Gravel wants to let everyone in. He’s ashamed to talk about building a fence on the Southern border
Toby Wollin @ 207
Looks more orange than that on my TV.
I wish I could watch the interaction during the break…
Well, well, Hill actually has the sensible explanation of why it’s stupid for local police to be expected to enforce immig law!!
AnnieW @ 197
It does me, too. Joe 6-pack? Not so much, I think.
I don’t think Timmeh is doing that badly-he’s certainly trying to pin them down and answer the questions.
Great discussion
bobschacht @ 184
Looks like Kos orange to me with a beige weave. Black pants it looks like.
Loo Hoo. @ 181
More of this please!
TexBetsy @ 212
Well perhaps to be “bipartisan” we’ll split the difference and go with OldCoastie’s “burnt orange”.
All the talk about the color of her suit is beginning to make me feel like MoDo… I’m going off to take a quick shower to get rid of that feeling…
Emptywheel’s YKos shoes.
http://picasaweb.google.com/Te…..6019793282
jayt @ 203
*sigh* Every survey I take has him as my go-to-guy, where have I failed…??? ;-)
Toby Wollin @ 219
I live in Texas and I know burnt orange. Hillary’s is redder.
TexBetsy @ 221
Great Shoes!
Here at casa Solai, there was a tornado warning issued. My 85yr old mother in law was afraid. So, we had to go get her to protect her from the storm. She arrived at 9:02 and wanted me to turn on the weather channel. I kept switching back and forth but finally gave up and I’m in my bedroom watching the debate. She and her son are in my living room probably thinking bad thoughts about me.
hi all-
someone in the last thread posted this-someone liveblogging from nh……..they’re doing a good job…….
h/t to whomever it was
http://www.bluemassgroup.com/frontPage.do
PeteCO @ 215
Fair enough, though I think Joe 6-pack doesn’t watch a Dem primary debate on MSNBC.
… and we’re back!
tejanarusa- I shouldn’t have said that because I wasn’t paying attention but I just don’t like Richardson.
While I truly don’t want Iran to have a nuke I don’t agree at all that it should be US policy to take them out if they get one-no matter what Israel thinks. I get really aggravated that the conventional wisdom has settled on keeping nukes out of Iran at all costs-especially militarily.
More Hill cackle.
perhaps the suit is rusty burnt orange… whatever it is, it is a very nice color…
Good answer Chris Dodd.
Marion in Savannah @ 220
Yeah, me, too—although I love orange, have lots of orange in my own wardrobe. One of the things I love about living in this very sunny and bright Texas climate. You don’t have to wear gray and blue to look professional. Bright colors all around!
And now back to taking the serious seriously…(well, they are on a break)
This whole debate is a setup by the Republicans. The Republicans always get to frame the debate.
solai @ 226
(((solai)))
nonsense! they are actually thinking how happy we all will be in January 2009
TexBetsy @ 191
Damn. I want one just like it. I would look great, in an round-woman-in-advanced-middle-age sort of way.
Okay, now it devolves…. Thanks, Timmeh.
solai @ 225
LOL! Where are you, Solai? In Tornado Alley?
TexBetsy @ 222
Oh fergawdsake can we stop with the pantsuit color?
OldCoastie @ 230
Picture of all candidates on NYT – it is a great suit. Beautiful.
Finally, healthcare.
They’re doing the exact same rhetoric they did with Iraq. What will it take for the American people to wake up?
Kevster @ 239
Go Longhorns.
OldCoastie @ 231
If she wore black, she’d be critisized for being too somber, trying to look too masculine, etc. Kind of no win for her, huh?
Yeah, Hillary… Your “plan” is pretty much a reheated version of John Edwards’. Who was there first, with more.
Everythingseemssoneat @ 243
a mushroom cloud
–in Iran
Get insurance out of health care, Hillary. Single payer!
I think Hillary is a geek who is willing to put Irael before America if it helps her career.
During WWII, the Japanese were so terrified by the “propaganda”, that they jumped off cliffs to their deaths….
Learn from that. Don’t believe the lies that you are told, and don’t believe the lies that you tell yourself.
Hang tough.
What we must do is take the whole system into public ownership, Ms. Clinton.
CTuttle @ 221
me too – every quiz I’ve taken show Kucinich as my #1, and Gravel as my #2 choices.
Oh, puhleeeeeze, Hillary. Bush is about to veto SCHIP. Bite me…
Way to much time for HC, imo.
Just driving by to make this comment. My best friend from highschool is an Oxford immigration lawyer.
Tim Russert’s question about immigration was biased (surprise) and dead wrong. Somewhat surprisingly Clinton was had the best answer to this poor question.
According to my friend the lawyer, the actual statute governing enforcement of immigration precludes the state and local governments from enforcing immigration law. The law says they can’t enforce it unless the have an MOU (memorandum of understanding) with the feds.
So Tim’s question was either not well researched or just belies his bias that we kind of already knew about.
Thanks guys! Love the Lake!
OT but very hot in the Net Neutrality arena:
Verizon blocks text messaging program from NARAL
I know NARAL is not the most favored group here at the lake but this is a much bigger issue. We need to get on the horn to our Senators/Reps to make this sort of thing illegal. We also need to apply pressure to Verizon.
Totally Unaceptable
tejanarusa @ 238
Central NY. After all the warnings, it barely stormed. No big deal. Except, I just heard she’s spending the night.
Biden, in order to get healthcare, you’re going to need 15% of the republicans, and she can’t get it because of her problems in 93-94. He can do it because he did it on something else.
Elliott @ 235
Sighted today, rural Maine – a (Maine registered) 4WD pickup. Bumpersticker #1: “9.20.09″. Bumpersticker #2: “Obama”. In all other respects, a plain jane, Maine registered 4WD pickup with rifle racks, including driver and passenger.
Interesting! Front page of NYT – below the pic — the NYT “liveblogging the Democratic Debate”. Well, well. DID FDL coin the term “liveblogging?”
GOP healthcare plan:
……
Biden is a defeatocrat on health care. Stop being a whint ass titty baby.
i know it’s stupid and it shouldn’t influence me… but i like dodd’s voice.
Edwards – cuts through the cr@p!
LS @ 249
Wow LS … you’re really beginning to sound enlightened … *g*
AnnieW @ 244
womenBiden earns BA another $5 from me just for his snotty attitude.
“This is a government-run socialized wolf masquerading in the sheep skin of children’s health,” said Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Tex.).
http://www.washingtonpost.com/…..s_politics
Just nationalise it.
jayt @ 251
Me, too. Damn. The closest to top tier I get is Richardson who doesn’t seem like the best candidate on the fly. His answer on “teh gays” shows that.
to Edwards: healthcare
Hill worked very hard at that time.
A bunch of people in DC thinks everything happens there.
We need a candidate who can go to America and discuss healthcare.
If congress can’t do something for America about healthcare, they should lose their HC.
TexBetsy @ 242
Hook’em Horns…!!!
Go, John!
OK, Edwards wins five more happy dollars for BA.
Edwards: let’s take it out of DC and talk to the people (healthcare)
I really (still) like him.
PeteCO @ 266
He says that like he thinks that’s a bad thing. Silly.
Edwards does not think Hillary did poor work. Good for him for saying that everything cannot be decided in DC. The rest of the country needs to be consulted. He would call for congresspeople not to be covered if the rest of America is not covered. He was the first candidate to go for universal health care.
dmac @ 225
thank you kindly. Even though I moved to PA, BMG is still on my RSS feed. They do good work.
If they behave themselves, maybe the president will invite them to the White House for lunch.
‘The Socialized Wolf’ – that may be my new nom de blog!
I really (still) like Edwards too.
Selise – I met Sen Dodd and I gotta say he is one great man (and had the nicest white shirt I ever saw!)
I’m definitely a Dodd and a Richardson fan – both men get it and take tough stands with class!
AnnieW @ 244
John Edwards just kicked ass. They sure aren’t asking him many questions. HMMMM
Edwards gonna go to the mat on universal health care. Good on him.
Obama just isn’t very impressive
Sorry, but the more Sen. Obama opens his mouth the less impressed I am…
I think Edwards is my choice.
Timmeh asking Obama why he should run now with 31 months in the senate and no landmark legislation. He says because he can bring people together, take on big money, and ethics. Telling the truth to people when it’s tough.
OldCoastie @ 277
me too. In the absence of Al Gore, he’s my guy.
TexBetsy @ 284
What she said. TWICE!
Obama
Country at a crossroads,
1.we need 3 things:
someone who can pull the country.
I can do that.
2, someone who can take on the special interests. I’ve done that. worked with Feingold
3. telling the truth to the public. I have told the truth about the war.
sheilankc @ 282
so why do the polls say Hillary is ahead?
I’m not seeing this in my world.
Edwards took his shot when he needed to. He really scored on healthcare
Obama kinda makes my eyes roll back in my head…
I really appreciate Edwards take on health care and the dangers of DC but I am really upset by his lack of courage and good positions on Iraq and Iran.
TexBetsy @ 221
Ms. ET wants to know where she can get some.
Alicia @ 262
Gravel lite?
I’m a longtime Edwards backer and I love his wife even if she did screw-up on Move-On. At least he corrected the error.
Loo Hoo. @ 274
… nd he proposed a very intelligent middle step to Universal Health Care … if I were American, I would walk across the country for this man …
Obama said Hillary closed the door on people who would have helped her on healthcare. Ohhh.
Obama just smacked Hillary around
TexBetsy @ 283
Best of the Top-Tiers…!!! ;-)
OldCoastie @ 291
Just…weak.
Elliott @ 288
Niether am I.
Elliott @ 288
I don’t get it either. He’s been the leader on all the major issues. Just can’t figure why he’s not moving up.
I can’t believe Timmeh just said that (about failed business!), considering who is occupying the White House…
Low blow from Timmeh re: Gravel’s bankruptcy
Gravel just put large foot in big mouth.
Gravel filed for personal bankruptcy. Uh oh.
Siun @ 278
Met Dodd on the campaign trail with Ned. Good guy. Tim Tageris is running his blog and Tim is golden as far as I’m concerned. Dodd and Edwards are where I’m leaning.
Looking forward to reading Dodd’s book about his dad at Nuremberg. But first need to read Charlie Savage before Sunday. The debate is distracting me from that.
wtf is Gravel talking about with the credit cards thing?
Edward’s smiled genuinely at Gravel’s comments.
Gravel just lost it. Man.
Alicia @ 302
for those of us stuck out here with no feed, what did he say?
Alicia @ 276
Don’t forget “In a sheeps skin”, of “children’s health” no less.
(ET – tell Mrs ET I have wanted them since seeing them too … I’ll find out where Marcy got her snazzy footwear and share it!)
Siun @ 292
Courage? He was the first, as I recall, to step up to the plate to say he was WRONG to vote to authorize action against Iraq. Am I mistaken on that? He also was the first to come out with a healthcare plan. Just sayin’….
Obama suffering atm from being the ‘rebuttal witness’ in two straight segments, healthcare and foreign policy.
Hopefully he’ll get the first shot at a major issue to frame himself without others framing him first.
Petrocelli @ 295
It’s true that they can’t go from the present system to single payer – a workable plan that moves in the right direction would be a huge step.
good for Kucinich! “That’s NBC’s story. now let me toll you the real story about Cleveland.”
Asking Kucinich why he let Cleveland go bankrupt. He said he wouldn’t sell the electric system to the big corporations.
CTuttle @ 298
We are on the same page.
dodd’s national service plan is a serious problem for me.
timmeh said that if gravel ran up $90K on cred cards and went bankrupt. he says he was right to leave the cred card comps with the bills.
Toby Wollin @ 309
Criticizing a candidate for being a failed businessman
I still like Dennis…!!! ;-)
Elliott @ 289
Edwards is running on sincerity and integrity … Hillary is running a very strategic campaign … hmmm … I wonder who will win …
CTuttle @ 322
Me too. :)
Kevster @ 300
The media won’t let him—just like they took down Dean. He doesn’t owe them anything. They will take him down just as they did Dean.
Timmeh’s present strategy – make *everybody* look bad.
Somewhere, Jack Welch is smiling…
CTuttle @ 321
He’s the real deal, no frills, but the real deal.
Loo Hoo. @ 316
kucinich was right… that was a principled, courageous act.
Petrocelli @ 324
hmmm …
Wow Timmeh, way to attack Richardson, blame all of New Mexico’s problems on him.
Okay, guys, why are we discussing Hillary’s clothes? What’s Obama wearing? Don’t make me think we’re being sexist here…
I can pretty much garuntee it would be a crazy transition in many ways. Pharmacy would go a bit crazy for a bit, as we’d have to shift the plan details and whatnot and who we call for what and such. Most of our procedures except for the billing would stay teh same. But the billing is also what ties us up on the phone lines 3/4s of the time on a really bad day.
Crazy yes? But worth it if it ever comes to be!
jayt @ 325
Holla!
Alicia @ 321
Something that NOBODY in the MSM did when the Current Occupant was running…
Richardson talking about his diplomacy record, which I think is indeed impressive.
Alicia @ 321
well, that’s low. Is he going to go after Rudy, McCain et al (Gingrich too if he gets in) in a debate about their “family values”? Huh?
Mark Snowden @ 313
That’s not how he works. He ducks first and then tries to make up for it by asking everybody to just be nicer.
Petrocelli @ 295
Heh. 35 years ago, on a visit to Canada, I had to learn not to call myself an “American”.
And some countries complain about a “brain” drain!
Alicia @ 321
Did Gravel remind Timmeh who’s President right now ?
Richardson saying he is a blend of Obama and Clinton. Experience and the ability to bring change.
I like Edwards, Dodd, Denis. Obama does nothing for me. Richardson seems OK but not the person I would want as president. Hillary is Nixon in a dress with a D after his /her name.
Edwards, Dodd and Denis seem to be the most consistent and willing to stake out a clear position.
Compared to the republican offerings anyone would be great.
Apologies for 2 attempts to do the strikeout thingy – didn’t work either time. Sorry for the waste of bandwidth.
Richardson is a lock for DHS. I can’t imagine a better person for DHS.
for President, he’d make a great DHS.
selise @ 327
Who IS this broad, and why is she repeatedly asking wingnut questions?
Toby Wollin @ 336
Why do I doubt that?
Siun @ 312
I’m not sure how snazzy they are, but she likes the combination of images that hit you all at once.
The men are all wearing the same suit. White shirts. Either Blue or Red ties.
BORING
jayt @ 251
Thank goodness! I am just the reverse, Gravel 1, Kuchinich 2, NCLB was the only sticking point for Dennis and me. But Gravel & I were 100%, I’m not sure if I should be worried or not…
This debate has virtually nothing to do with anything.
Same sex marriage? Jesus.
Marion in Savannah @ 344
That’s what I want to know.
Marion in Savannah @ 344
I was wondering the same thing.
Elliott @ 329
Didja hear that Toronto was hotter than Hawaii, Mexico and Puerto Rico yesterday ?
Marion in Savannah @ 344
she’s from New England Cable News. Nothing special.
realworld @ 255
Try opendns.com. Gives you some filter control. But your right.
Loo Hoo. @ 352
reporter from a NH TV station
jayt @ 103
The Iranian Republican Guard as a terrorist group? What defines a terrorist? A person/group who targets innocent civilians. NOT a group who targets military targets, who happen to be US soldiers and Blackwater security detail. Maureen Dowd hits it on the head in her column today. We can’t just continue to call groups terrorists because they are attacking our soldiers. They are our ENEMIES, but NOT terrorists.
Hey gang! We’re really verbal eh? (and this is costing me a ton! LOL!)
Let’s move upstairs to part two to save the servers by clicking here!
RevDeb @ 325
I agree, that’s the plan. Bope it doesn’t work. I like his answer on the gay story. But I hate the question as a “gotcha” designed to get the headlines.
AnnieW @ 346
Oh yeah – I’m holding my breath for that one.
Shadowstalker @ 331
TexBetsy @ 347
Next time, I think we hand out Hawaiian shirts to all the guys and Hillary gets to wear a black pants suit.
OK I am capping at 50 bucks for Bliue America.. at 40 now with Edwards latest 5 happy dollar DING!
Eureka Springs @ 253
That’s what Dodd meant by saying this president wants her as a candidate.
Marion in Savannah @ 344
Who IS this broad, and why is she repeatedly asking wingnut questions?
Which network is presenting this debate? Next question.
New thread
New Thread
Ya gotta admit… if you want a “feel good” soundbite Sen. Obama’s the one to give it to you. I was hoping for more than soundbites…
Money should go to Moveon. The whole wingnut establishment is afraid of them. Good on em. They are one of the few groups that stand for the American way, and that includes most of the Dems. We need almost a totally new slate of Dems, otherwise we have no loyal opposition, and no voice.
We have a king now, and a police state. If we don’t do something it will be far worse after 08
Marion in Savannah @ 344
Marion, my answer was rude to you, I think.
sorry.
NEW POST
Despite the fact that I don’t agree with her on many things I have to admit that Hillary comes across very naturally. Her comments are thoughtful and unforced. She does not sound scripted at all. Have to give her credit.
Petrocelli @ 354
No!
it should be downright chilly there now
hmmm…
Her ‘gay’ question was loaded but they’re all answering it well. I’m not sure wingnuts would agree with my assessment, though.
Ed*ard Teller @ 293
Hillary “Third Way” lite.
TexBetsy @ 357
Not quite. NE Cable news is spread across the Comcast stations in New England—MA, RI, NH, VT, ME.
Loo Hoo. @ 352
My same question. “New England Cable News.” no time to look it up, but could that mean a Fox station?
Oh gawd, here we go again, same sex marriage. All the GOP is gay, they just don’t want to commit. These debates are driving me crazy. Not as crazy as the votes today on the hill though. Also, if we can successfully provide all of our government (not a conservative number) with insurance, then how come we can not provide it to the children. I haven’t experienced, but believe, that our nation’s prisoners have better healthcare then natural born citizens, children included. These money bags are really something. I wonder, with their egos, how they get through a door.
CTuttle @ 50
Indeed, Kucinich as well.
Siun @ 359
too rich for me. but, i’ll make a small donation just to keep you company…
selise @ 320
It really shouldn’t be. With a range of choices, I think many 18 yr olds would love to take a break for a couple years (I would’ve loved to have been a park ranger back then). And with their children going into service, I think parents would think carefully about how that service would be dedicated.
Yeah, I don’t want Bush to have anything to do with it, but turning conscripted youths into what he needs takes longer than the time he has left.
Marion in Savannah @ 368
something about those sound bites doesn’t make me feel good at all.
Day’s like today everything seems hopeless. I suppose it was like that in London in August-September 1940. Just gotta keep sloggin. Night pups. I’ve had as much of this stuff as I can take. Hope for the best.
Knut Wicksell @ 383
Niters Knut – Hope for the best indeed! With luck Timmeth won’t be invited to too many other debates. Sleep well!
Kevster @ 16
“evah” is a long time, so “4 evah” must be a really really long time Heh!
Mark Snowden @ 30
Hey, that’s really really important, cause if you’re gonna fight war ya don’t want to look messy.
GordonM @ 382
i’d be ok with it. so long as it isn’t mandatory.
RevDeb @ 119
Don’t forget the flag burning bill! She’s a real supporter of Civil Rights that gal.
Hill’s a Corporate Dem, look at her votes today.
Marion in Savannah @ 179
Yeah, silly Joe. Everybody knows reality BITES!
Sheesh.
Petrocelli @ 195
Gee, I don’t know. I mean, there are some small cracks between the candidates: some want to leave and some want to stay forever. Hmmm, maybe there is something there.
The suspense is killing me!
How is Oklahoma Kiddo going to react?
His armchair is gonna have Permanent
finger marks!!
Elliott @ 246
There was an interesting discussion I read today about the B-52 with 6 nukes and how there might’ve been a plan to drop one with some other explosives into Iran and claim the Iranians had had a nuclear accident or something. Anything to ‘prove’ Iran has bombs and not just peaceful nuclear power ideas.
Somehow it’s all very mysterious and not as clear as the build-up propaganda for the Iraq invasion.
Loo Hoo. @ 285
Is that what he was doing when he didn’t show up to vote on Lieberman/Kyl?
Siun @ 292
I think he’s worried about getting into a committed position when he’d rather keep options open. It’s not the most clean appealing political position, but it has it’s logic.
Petrocelli @ 354
Cool!
