Let me get this straight. The Rules Committee passes the lot en bloc without recommendation. Does that not make NO distinction between Von Spaz and the rest, in effect giving him cover?
Why did DiFi let herself get railroaded like that? All she had to do was object to en bloc vote, as it takes unanimous consent to vote en bloc. She fell for the precedence ploy when the rules were on her side.

I wonder if the Dimmocrats didn’t fight the von Spaz thing very much because the voter ID issue is going before the SCt this term? Not that that is any comfort.

If they are placing any faith in SCOTUS, then they are totally clueless.

Mukasey was Schumer nominee. Schumer suggested Mukasey. The WH didn’t just pick Mukasey all on it’s own.

Schumer is his sponsor and is trying to gather up the votes to get him confirmed. ergo, there is lots of vote swapping oging these days

I understand vote swapping under certain circumstances. But this is a bridge too far.

It really sucks that Schumer isn’t creative enough to use the full oversight powers of his office, and would prefer to engage in baseball-card swapping with the criminal Republican minority.

Could it be that Schumer is attempting to undermine Leahy in his attempt to get the documents they need from the WH. Yesterday’s hearing showed Leahy talking about the need for documents before they can make reasoned and informed decisions. I think he wants to hold up the Mucasey vote until the WH comes forth with the docs. So I’m wondering if Schumer is trying to go around that with all the other members pushing for a vote ASAP.

Maybe - just maybe - that is the deal, but in reverse. Get Mukasey in as AG and then Mukasey will provide the documents. (?)

Somehow I doubt it. There will have been some sort of agreement between Mukasey and Bush to prevent that in exchange for the nomination. Although, I would find it simply delicious if Bush ended up appointing the instrument of his own doom.

I don’t think it would be as overt as that. Mukasey would not have stood for an explicate demand like that from Bush. No, Bush would just try to ressure him.
