I wonder if she’s being coerced in some way. We all know that the Republicans don’t shrink from doing out in the open things so outrageous that it takes my breath away. Do any of us doubt that behind the scenes they are exerting pressure in ways even more reprehensible? Things on the order of “we’ll sic the IRS and the Justice Department on your husband and his business interests” or “no more fat no-bid conracts for him” or “we know things about you and your husband that would be profoundly embarrassing if leaked to the media” or even “we know where you live.”

Why not save the $600,000? I’m not even sure there is a Saxby Chambliss. Every time I write him I get the same I-support-the-Administration letter back. When I look at his votes and his comments, they are parroted Talking Points du jour. We have had some genuine Statesmen from Georgia in times past. Chambliss is more like a character from Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

The fears of CENTCOM are being realized. …Maliki said he now doesn’t foresee a long term presence for American troops in Iraq, … parliament would have to approve such an agreement at a time when … civil war has been averted[,] and that the Bush Administration is overstating Iranian influence. …now it appears that State is no longer going to be shielding Blackwater from congressional inquiries, after al-Maliki met with Bush yesterday at the UN and probably indicated that the Iraqis will not be backing down on this.
