I don’t remember saying that Mickey Kaus was irrelevant, but I never write about him so is that the same thing?
He keeps writing about me anyway so I suppose I should return the favor. I know Mickey and I like him — he’s got a naive charm that’s refreshing in this day and age:
If the Republicans never conceded they were wrong we’re not going to make much progress. But I think Republicans will concede they were wrong. And Democrats who voted for the war.
I like to think of Mickey with a net chasing butterflies through a field.
What’s not to love?

The picture isn’t showing up. The HTML looks correct so my wild ass guess would be that the picture doesnt’ actually exist…
Told ‘em downstairs, too. *preen*
Butterflys are free?
Nope. Repugs have cornered the market and now they only offer them via a sub-prime loan:
“Git yer butterflys right here. No down and no points…ahmmmm…this year…but next year, you got a wee lil’ balloon, but don’t fret yerself lil’ lady. A’hm shore ya’ll be jest fine. Now sign right here, ’cause I got a plane to catch.”
“Fight-Club Democrats”!!
Yes! And the first rule of Fight-Club Democrats is…..
well shit.
jayt @ 11
:-)
It’s tricky!
What a dick, but i’m glad you look glowing Jane. I’m sure it is true.
Did anyone check out what Rudy told the NRA today? Sounds like Rudy hates the First Amendment!!
Sorry, Jane. I don’t know Mickey, I don’t like him, I don’t like his concern-troll stylings about how if only Democrats followed his advice, they wouldn’t get into so much trouble and people like him wouldn’t hate them, and, well, since you like him, I’ll make this nicer than it could be.
I like that sentiment. In fact, I like it so much, I’m going to copy it: When Republicans concede they were wrong, and help end the war, I’ll stand with you and say I like Mickey Kaus, but until then, he’s a moral midget with nary a good word for Democrats or democracy, so he can piss off (or go fight in Iraq). Also, his breath smells like Karl Rove’s hand; don’t ask me how I know.
Since Kaus thinks Republicans will change their mind soon, no doubt I’ll be able to take back *my* assessment of *him*, too. (hey, at least I’m only being temporarily rude, while he’s continually enabling Republicans and war; when’s the Senate going to vote to condemn *my* name-calling?)
Nothing would make me happier. Except chasing butterflies in a field.
I used to visit Mickey Kaus – long ago, when I sometimes confused Kaus and Kos. I loved his humor, but it was often meaningless. I love the humor here, where it is often quite meaningful…
I suspect the man has a crush on our Hamsher Lady — the pic with the baseball cap probably pushed him over the edge — one way or another.
Mickey does have that je ne sais quoi with the language doesn’t he? Are you sure he’s on our side? He writes like Jonah or Ace.
Aww, you hurt his feelings! He just wants to have a pretty, pretty lady to spar with, and you can feel the pain in his voice when he says “but she says I’m not even worth attacking.”
Ed*ard Teller @ 17
Easy to confuse the two. I posted diaries at Kaus for months before I realized they weren’t showing up.
I don’t know Mickey either and his page doesn’t load for me due to that craptastic realaudio plugin.
Good to know that Jane is “Glowing”!
The video was not so glowing. Kind of a strange twosome.
A wee bit OT, but tis something we’ve all been interested in:
Interesting info on Blackwater’s Erik Prince. It almost sounds like another of the Administration’s “faith based initiatives.”
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
I have viewed the vid in the link listed in this post. And as for Mr. Kaus? I tend to become excited occasionally in my reactions (angry too). I am going to wait and have a certain person I know look at this before I ‘go off’.
Poor Jane, soooo many admirers,so little time for punks.
Condi in charge.
AP – Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Friday she had ordered a “full and complete review” of security practices for U.S. diplomats in Iraq following a deadly weekend incident involving private guards protecting an embassy convoy.

Oklahoma kiddo @ 28
How very Inspector Renault of her.
It’s either the afternoon after-lunch-siesta or the afternoon-rush-home time, I guess. :-P
I have now completed my consultation on the Kaus vid. And the consensus here is building toward, ‘fuck you Mik’
I can’t believe President Bush is still fulminating over Sadaam Hussein’s assasination of Nelson Mandela. Get over it, George!!! It’s old news by now and you hanged the bastard.

Not to be confused with the full and complete review State would have done after the last several such incidents. “No one could have anticipated . . .”
eli coming up on tweety’s hardball
Keep on glowing, Jane!
Democrats are all posing as against the Iraq debacle because their pollsters say it is ok, but the lack of opposition to the next war, against Iran, is more telling as to their real beliefs.
97-0 in the Senate.
If 4 years from know Obama repents and starts ‘opposing’ the ruination across the middle east, who gives a *$^%%!?
“All options are on the table” now, including a nuclear first strike against civilians. Unsupportable, beyond the pale.
juslin @ 35
MSNBC.com’s front page still hasn’t found room for anything about a sitting US Senator taking bribes.
John McCain is pathetic. But I hardly feel sorry for this ass.
remrebound @ 39
Yeah!
And Jane’s blog actually works! 707!
HAHAHAHHAHAHA!!!!!!!
He’s a putz.
Is it just me or is Mickey Kaus an exceptionally unattractive man?
Hardball showing John “We’re losin’, let’s escalate!” McCain and his now infamous campaign battle cry:
And my response:
We are looking at “Hardball”. Godammit. If one does not support what our civilian government is doing in Iraq, that is not the same as not supporting our soldiers. For crying out loud. Most Americans think Iraq is wrong. Dead wrong.
Schuster: “Since president Bush condemned their ad, MoveOn.Org’s has been flooded with contributions, totaling nearly 1 million dollars, and the group is nowing planning to double the number of their ads against Republicans.”
Karma can be sweet, sometimes.
Nancy Pelosi. You are wrong on impeachment. Wrong, wrong, wrong. You just don’t get it.
As long as frivolity reigns, Hardball should have a debate: Is Bush afraid of horses? Vicente Fox says he is.
jayt @ 48
So Bush is now our best fundraiser! Sweet!
Now how about some ads against quisling “Democrats?”
Sunlightalinazinosec?
Moveon is speaking for the people, because Bella Pulosi and Airy Cede, won’t. I say more power to them and keep bringing it on.

Badwater @ 50
He doesn’t like things that are smarter and more powerful than he is.
my name is linda and MOVEON really really speaks for me!
Morris Sheppard @ 45
Ugly as a homemade mud fence.
Blech.
Dear MoveOn member,
Yesterday, an amazing thing happened. After the Senate’s shameful vote, and after President Bush called MoveOn “disgusting,”1 our email started to fill up with messages like this one:
I’m currently in Iraq. I do not agree with this war, and if I did support this war, it would not matter. You have the RIGHT to speak the truth. We KNOW that you support us. Thank you for speaking out for being our voice. We do not have a voice. We are overshooted by those who say that we soldiers do not support organizations like MoveOn. WE DO.
YOU ARE OUR voice.
And then came the donations. By midnight, over 12,000 people had donated $500,000—more than we’ve raised any day this year—for our new ad calling out the Republicans who blocked adequate rest for troops headed back to Iraq.
Morris Sheppard @ 51
Bush is great for our cause!

This guy Huckabee has been watching way too many “Hight Noon” type movies. Huck wants to arm everybody.

OK TRex, now you’ve gone and insulted homemade mud fences. What did they ever do to you?
Hey ET: Over at Talking Points they’re discussing a Rep Weller aid who pushed someone down the stairs. Reminded me of your Don Young story that wasn’t reported. Maybe you should share your info with them too.
God, I keep going back to watch that “diavlog” in little bits. (I can’t take the whole thing at once.)
Who are these men? What a pair of nebbishy, adenoidal old fossils they are.
its not kaus looks that are offensive – its his ideas as far as i’m concerned

and i can’t seem to figure out how to rip the live c-span streams or even the DPC hearing yet. i have the correct stream url… but no dice.
other than that CocoaJT is a GREAT player for c-span.
but i must be an idiot.

Ben Bernanke, Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank, is printing money by the hundreds of $billions out of thin air to save banks, hedge funds, and financial firms. The Fed is a private bank, and Ben is giving away our money to private interests, as follows:
Here are the top controllers of the Federal Rwerve Bank
1. Rothchild banks of London and Berlin.
2. Lazard Brothers Banks of Paris.
3. Israel Moses Seif Banks of Italy.
4. Warburg Bank of Hamburg and Amsterdam.
5. Lehman Brothers Bank of New York.
6. Kuhn, Loeb bank of New York.
7. Chase Manhattan Bank of New York, which controls all of the other 11 Federal Rwerve Banks.
8. Goldman, Sachs Bank of New York.
Gawd. I can’t deal with Ron Christie.

oh lawd – ron christie is for censorship – who knew
That video clip is a waste of perfectly good electrons.
And, to many in the Beltway, Mickey Kaus is a serious person.
KestrelBrighteyes @ 77
Nobody qualified to register an opinion.
Joe Klein’s conscience @ 81
The only good thing to have emerged from yesterday, after slapping down the Webb Amendment, the Feingold Amendment, and Levin-Reed, is that the R’s now own this war, lock, stock and smoking barrels – forevermore.
Gog and Magog are from the Book of Revelations in the Bible. They’re the two nations whose war sets the apocalypse in motion.
Please don’t ask me how I know that.
Jonathan @ 89
With you there, Jonathan – - we are starting to have a lot of color here in the Southern Tier of New York.

Bush Cited “Gog & Magog” As Reason To Attack Iraq
“In 2003, University of Lausanne theology professor Thomas Römer received a telephone call from the Elysée. Jacques Chirac’s advisers wanted to know more about Gog and Magog … two mysterious names pronounced by George W. Bush while he was attempting to convince France to enter the war in Iraq at his side.”
yeah ron thats the ticket – shut down all debate on college campuses…what a fucking jackass!
I just read this diary at Kos, and I am really scared of Bush. I feel nauseated. It is a long diary to read when you have time, but the implications of Bush’s religious affiliation is really well researched…gulp. It makes me want to go on a rampage to get to the bottom of it all and get him out of office for being f’ing crazy:
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/9/21/145614/144
Perhaps I’m wrong. But Ron Christie looks young enough to joing the military and request grunt duty in Iraq.
TRex @ 95
Well, as the resident theropod, you were there when the thing got written, no?
Can you imagine how much spit you’d end up with on your face if you talk to Mickey Kaus when he’s been drinking?
*dons a rain-hat*
Jonathan @ 89
Poor Move-ON
what will they do with all this money that’s rolling in?
TRex @ 95
You’ll have to tell us one day where you come by your encyclopedic understanding of the Acid Trip of St. John.
selise @ 84
Na, CocoaJT might just not be up to date. Another nifty tool, if you haven’t seen it, is snapzprox. You can do all sorts of nifty screen AV capturing with it but it is not free.
jayt @ 93
until the dems give bush his $200 billion to pay for it.
George Bush the Texan is a ‘scared of horses’
President Bush may like to be seen as a swaggering tough guy with a penchant for manly outdoor pursuits, but in a new book one of his closest allies has said he is afraid of horses.
Vicente Fox, the former president of Mexico, derided his political friend as a “windshield cowboy” – a cowboy who prefers to drive – and “the cockiest guy I have ever met in my life”.
LS @ 100
The impression here is that most of the world is afraid of what George W. Bush might do next.
LS @ 100
This diary is NOT the Gog Magog diary cited in comments above, it is much longer, but they back each other up. JFYI.
TRex @ 95
And TREX gets an extra Bible cookie for knowing that. (Bible cookies – it was what they gave us in Vacation Bible School in Alabama, it was a sugar cookie that had a cross stamped into it.
And don’t feel bad TREX, I knew it too – I had the prophesies from the book of Revelation scared into me at a very early age.
I dated a pot-smoking ex fundamentalist who was kind of a conspiracy freak. You’d be amazed what kind of crazy crap is stored in my noggin.
Elliott @ 105
While there are differences between the Democrats and Republicans, they both being hate told what to do by the unwashed masses.
Oklahoma kiddo @ 101
Perhaps I’m wrong. But Ron Christie looks young enough to joing the military and request grunt duty in Iraq.
He couldn’t get in even as an Arab-language translator.
Make that *especially* as an Arab-language translator.
jayt @ 94
Yes, they do but I wish THEY would pay for it – in more ways than one.
i thought the Gog and Magog were aliens from the series ‘Andromedia’. They laid eggs in humans.
I’m in favor of impeachment. But I have wondered if such action would push this lunatic over the edge.
Is it me or does Kaus like like that guy Tim Kjurkian on ESPN?
Ron Christie is a whinning queen…YUCK…Ed really smacked down his smug arze
Kathy/Fozzetti @ 116
Could that explain what’s wrong with Bush and Cheney? Hmmm…
Oklahoma kiddo @ 102
He’s another chicken hawk.
I hope it won’t be a problem for them since I just chipped in a few bucks myself!
I just realized…

The talking heads on Tweety think that the move-on ad will help the thugs..OF COURSE…no one brought up the fact they raised almost a million since yestrday!

OKK, tell Lahoma hi.
ES, that picture just formed in my mind and I can’t get rid of it. What color should Mickey’s couch be? Crushed or regular velvet?
juslin @ 91
No, it’s “Nobody could have imagined…”
peanutbutter @ 126
In my house we had a discussion right after the war started that Bush would be at his most dangerous when his back was to the wall. I believe this even more strongly now. He is truly twisted and cares nothing for anyone. He needs to be watched very carefully.
twȝk @ 106
$69 is probably too much for what’s basically a toy for me right now. also, it looks like it’s supposed to run on intel processors and i’m still at g4.
i’d be happy to pitch in $20 for CocoaJT if it worked for me… maybe it’ll get updated some day… i’ll keep a eye on it.
and no one from any lefty online site on hardball….
I always watch Blogging Heads. Mickey will certainly say he didn’t take the time to read these comments. I’d bet a lot of money he did. He mentioned Jane just to get linked to.
Bush’s Moonie connections easily explain why he is drumming up the N.Korea/Syria story. I think Bush is some kind of Manchurian candidate type crackpot. He never got de-programmed.

i was being facetious ;o)
Hey, folks, today is officially the

i am going to be amazed, just amazed, if shrub simply exits office on 1/20/09
the game he’s playing is called i’ve got a whole bunch of power and i get to make my own reality
Oklahoma kiddo @ 118
What with Naomi Klein’s book on the Shock Doctrine, I don’t know that he needs to be pushed. I prefer impeachment to forestall such craziness.

FYI, new post
Donita spinning upstairs.
jayt @ 94
But I think they’re so busy licking their wounds that they are not making much out of how the Rethugs have now claimed 100% ownership of the war. Somehow they’re not very good at counterattack.
Who is Mickey Kaus, anyway?
I didn’t know anything about him until I read this post.
Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mickey_Kaus
He sounds confused.
selise @ 132
Yeah $69 bucks is a bit much IMHO but they’d have a universal binary.
If you have the Developer Tools installed download the source for CocoaJT and compile it. It usually helps especially if the source is more current.
LS @ 101
I did the duty and read the entire thing (with links as well) and I’ve got to tell you – we’re in much much deeper shit than even WE think.
Can’t we just tell Bush we don’t want to be raptured???? Oh, yeah…he gets raptured and survives…and we all die in fire, brimstone and eternal hell…what is the alternative? Oh, yeah…get saved. Wait…I want to be saved! I want to be saved, and as far as I can tell the only way to get saved is to get this nutcase out of office!!! I think certifiable is apt.
twk @ 149
yeah, gotta save some pennies to donate to moveon this weekend *g*
i don’t think i installed the developer tools, but iirc it was on my Tiger installation DVDs. i’ll take a look this weekend and see if i can figure it out.
many thanks for the suggestions! i really appreciate your help… i spend a lot of time feeling like a doofus about this stuff – but i refuse to let my ignorance stop me from at least trying…
selise @ 152
bah, don’t feel like a doofus because that is how you learn :D
Don’t bother with disk. You can get the new version of Developer Tools at developer.apple.com.
I download the source too so I’ll see if I can compile it. I’m on a G4 too.
I’ve about hit the wall for today tho.
LS @ 151
weird stuff. Isn’t the rapture kinda like a self fulfilling prophecy when you play with nukes?
LS @ 151
And won’t he be surprised when we’re all there and point at him and tell God ‘That’s the dude that pushed the red button!’
WOW, what a condescending post (or is is poor sarcasm?). If its not sarcasm, remind me never to get on Jane’s ‘people I like’ list.
.
Mickey actually sounds a little like a stalker focusing on Jane’s appearance in the beginning. It’s really hard to listen to this stupid interview. Stupid ad? Kaus: “you just criticize moveon. (tell’em to knock it off.)”
Not for a minute Mickey, not for a minute.
Kaus and Sullivan are both in the utterly ignorable category, in my opinion.
