Since we’re on the subject of Bush’s superfriends, I’d like to know what the f*#@ Congressman Lantos (D) of California, was thinking when he chose to have a hearing on the Iraq war, starring..Lindsey Graham.

Hardly a shining example of the Republican party, Ive been disgusted with how far right Lantos has come since Bush came into office.

He’s old and horribly biased. And our Americans are dying because of his complete agreement for all things pro-war, resulting from his pro hard-line pro right-wing Israeli and American policies.

I sincerely hope his district looks around for a more balanced foreign policy candidate.

Some legal types should review this document that McConnell wrote about spying back in 1993 - in the context of what is going on with the FISA bill now:

“Mr. Dodd appeared to be trying to determine whether Mr. Bolton’s requests focused on any particular subject area or official, and what use he might have made of the information. Unless it gets a warrant from a special court, as in cases of suspected terrorists, the agency is not permitted to identify as a deliberate target an American citizen or permanent resident for eavesdropping. But its global eavesdropping net regularly picks up communications involving Americans, including phone calls, faxes, e-mail messages and other communications.

Intelligence reports circulated by the agency within the government do not normally include verbatim transcripts, but do sometimes reveal what an American official had been heard to say, according to former intelligence officials.

Under the rules, the names of ordinary citizens generally must be removed from any report of the intercept, with the phrase “U.S. person” substituted. But there is an exception for “senior executive branch officials,” including ambassadors and dozens of senior State Department officials, who may be identified in reports by their titles.

The procedures are set out in a document called “U.S. Signals Intelligence Directive 18.” Though the document was originally secret, an edited version was released some years ago, along with documents interpreting the rules.”

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/04.....;position=

Clearly, clearly, clearly they have been illegally spying on Congress. Clearly, this is blackmail. That must be why everything is so screwed up.

Biodun @ 119

Dems losing ground in Senate on the Iraq war and occupation:

In July, the U.S. Senate voted 52-47 to take up consideration of a measure that would have required the president to begin withdrawing troops from Iraq within 120 days. While 52 votes constituted a majority, they weren’t enough to meet the 60-vote requirement for a cloture motion that would have cut off debate and moved the measure toward an up-or-down vote.

So Democrats tried to get a substantially similar measure going again this morning. The result this time: 47-47.

How is it possible that Democrats actually lost ground?

Here’s how.

What follows expalins how.

Thank you for this information. This is a pathetic state of affairs, but maddeningly not surprising.

What? The ADN have the oil mafia standing over their shoulder?

Oil and other mineral extraction ad revenue will make or break any high-end media outlet in Alaska. Quickly…

So many natural resources up there, like you pointed out with the fishing, those non-renewable resource industries should be supplanted!

This morning Renee Montagne interviewed France’s new foreign minister, Bernard Kouchner. He clarified his statment about Iran which he says was misunderstood….some might call it manipulated or “cherry picked”

He is a somewhat unlikely diplomat. He began his career as a physician and activist. He’s a co-founder of the group Doctors Without Borders and was fond of dramatic actions — like chartering a cargo ship to rescue Vietnamese boat people. It didn’t hurt his reputation as a maverick four years ago when he championed intervention in Iraq to topple Saddam Hussein. This week, the foreign minister has gotten in trouble for some undiplomatic language — saying the world must prepare for possible war when it comes to Iran because of its refusal to suspend nuclear activities. But Kouchner says he was misunderstood. In advance of a meeting in Washington with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, he placed France firmly on the side of the U.S. in calling for even tougher sanctions against Iran. Kouchner speaks with Renee Montagne.

Listen for yourself
