You know, I was saying this in the comments last night, but I really think this whole Senate vote to censure MoveOn.org and President Bush’s pissy little meltdown may end up being the best thing that’s ever happened to them. This came in my email today:
Dear MoveOn member,
Yesterday, an amazing thing happened. After the Senate’s shameful vote, and after President Bush called MoveOn “disgusting,”1 our email started to fill up with messages like this one:
I’m currently in Iraq. I do not agree with this war, and if I did support this war, it would not matter. You have the RIGHT to speak the truth. We KNOW that you support us. Thank you for speaking out for being our voice. We do not have a voice. We are overshooted by those who say that we soldiers do not support organizations like MoveOn. WE DO.
YOU ARE OUR voice.And then came the donations. By midnight, over 12,000 people had donated $500,000—more than we’ve raised any day this year—for our new ad calling out the Republicans who blocked adequate rest for troops headed back to Iraq.
The message from MoveOn members was loud and clear: Don’t back down. Take the fight back to the issues that matter.
For you see, every time the Bush administration demonizes an opponent, an angel gets its wings.
There is so much seething anti-war sentiment in this country, and the Vichy Dems in Congress are assuredly not representing the will of the people. Someone has to speak for us. It looks like MoveOn has stepped up to the plate.
Like everything else the Bush junta attempts, they’ve made a complete cock-up of the tarring and feathering of MoveOn. In fact, they may as well have anointed them with oil and crowned them with laurel leaves.
BushCo needs to learn what smart bloggers know. You don’t open fire at someone less powerful than yourself unless you want everyone to see you fighting nose to nose, on the same level. By personally attacking MoveOn, President Bush has raised their profile in a way that they would have had to pay a PR firm millions of dollars to do. He has forcibly thrust them into every living room in America.
And by god, that jumped-up piece of rich Connecticut trailer-trash has demonstrated the business acumen he was known for in the private sector by doing it pro bono.
What a mensch.
More of the emails received by MoveOn after the jump.
All day, messages from vets and military family members kept pouring into our email, many of them aimed at the Senate:
I have given a son to this country. My brother, my father, my uncle have all served honorably and bravely. I am a loyal American. I am outraged and sick to death of the tactics this administration uses to try to silence dissent to a war that is unjust, built and maintained on lies, political power, and greed. I was content to let others fight more loudly, but no more.
–Sharyn W., NCI am a prior soldier who served in Iraq for 13 months, and am now an expecting mom with a husband who is deployed in Baghdad. I don’t think I can ever forgive the Bush administration for the lies that tricked America into this war and hurt my family so badly. I am ashamed of those American politicians who would condemn an organization for practicing the Freedom of Speech that so many soldiers have died for.
–Danielle B., OHAs a US Navy veteran and an Iraq war veteran of over a year I want to ask, What has happened to us? What has happened to our voice? Where is this country going with stopping free speech and free press? … Every time I think of the long nights I had in Anbar remembering what I was fighting for, well here it is….
–Ahmad H., LA
These folks have made sacrifices many of us can’t imagine. Their charge to us was clear: keep speaking the truth about how President Bush and the Republicans have betrayed our trust.

MoveOn!
TRex!!??
Possible stuff. MoveOn. TRex!
TRex!!!
My name is Suzanne. I will not sit down and shut up. Move On speaks for me.
TRex!
Cinco.
Don’t give up the fight!
Plus dos.
Top ten?
has downstairs been nicely told?
Yeah. Donated.
Suzanne @ 11
yes’m, I took care of it
I contributed to MoveOn and my message was MORE! MORE! MORE!
Kick ‘em where it hurts!
Hiya Trex. Hiya y’all! Free from school work for a night.
Evening, gang.
You guys are helping me procrastinate on dishes.
Suzanne @ 5
me too.
Suzanne @ 5
Go Girl…!!! Evening, Ma Cheri!!!
Suzanne @ 5
I’m Peterr, and I approve this message.
TRex @ 16
I find a long long long soak under lots of soapy hot water tends to shut up the dishes from laying a guilt trip on ya because they are just sitting there not done.
MoveOn and the 1st Amendment!
And what could be more appropriate for Late Nite than Nightshift by the Commodores?
EvilDrPuma @ 10
By the hair on your chinny-chin-chin!
Suzanne @ 5
My name is Paul. Someday, I’d like to be able to say that I am proud to be an American. MoveOn speaks for me.
With these collosal blunders by Boosh and the U.S. Senate, the anti-war movement in America is Moving On to a higher level. Support the First Amendment, truth-telling, and bringing the troops home by giving to Moveon.org today. I did.
TRex @ 16
You’re not procrastinating — you’re letting microbiolological processes get started before you move into the compost stage.
It’s all good.
Ain’t this the best? True, blue America. I was so depressed when I came home from work today, but here there is great hope. Americans hate this war. So do those of us in MoveOn. We SHALL overcome!
George Bush does not own America.
Suzanne @ 20
Dishes need to soak a LONG time ya know.
Evenin’ all;
I got the same email. I laughed my head off when I saw how much they’ve raised.
Heckava job, Bushy.
“For you see, every time the Bush administration demonizes an opponent, an angel gets its wings.”
Dayam, TRex, I almost wasted a perfectly good beer…!!!
I got the same email today. Then I signed the petition, and I sent them a donation. Not much in the piggy bank, but this is too good an opprotunity to pass up. As usual, Chucklenuts manages to get it exactly wrong, like everything else he has done his entire adult life.
Sometimes, if you let them soak overnight, the dish fairies come and take care of everything.
Not all the time, though.
But then the water is tepid when you finally put your hands into it.
I mean, I guess I could pull up the drain and run fresh hot soapy water, but that would be really wasteful, and I’ve already had to repeat one load of laundry tonight.
Donating to MoveOn was some of the best money I’ve ever spent. And I know I’ll get a lotta bang for my buck(s).
wangdangdoodle @ 31
Dish fairy has to be in town and not at his girlfriend;s.
Has anyone heard any thing from the Dems who voted to condemn? I’ll bet they are really sweating now about what to do.
wangdangdoodle @ 31
You have dish fairies???
wangdangdoodle @ 31
Unfortunately, the only fairy in this house is me.
And I have to leave to go to my mom’s house in the morning.
wangdangdoodle @ 31
And sometimes the cat drinks the water and pukes everywhere.
SnarKassandra @ 27
Heh, You oughta know, Eh, Missie??? ;-)
all ya gotta do is pour in a kettle of steaming water, trex, problem solved and in a non-wasteful way.
Hiya, Lou. Sending soothing, headache calming vibes your way!
Twain @ 35
Well I’ve sent blistering letters to mine.
*grrrrrrumpht*
TRex, if I were in Athens tonight, I would be happy to stop by and wash your dishes.
Thanks for everything you do here.

Real IQ Test
This is a real IQ test site. The test consists of 40 questions to be answered within 40 minutes. The test questions start out easy and then progressively get harder. And don’t worry, there’s no calculus or trig here. Just picture puzzles to solve.
P.S. – And I ain’t gonna brag or anything, but…*g*
Twain @ 35
Assuming, for the moment, that anybody in their little bubbles is telling them what effect they had.
The next job for MoveOn:
According to the tax law information service that hits my inbox every afternoon, there is an agreement between the House and Senate on the SCHIP re-authorization bill. It will be announced on Monday, and the House is supposed to vote on Tuesday.
This needs to be passed with veto-proof majorities in both houses and become Dubya’s Legislative En**a for this year.
Y’all know what to do.
Trex, give mama rex some love from us pups.
peanutbutter @ 42
Me, too. And asked for replies.
TRex, you did well for the Kitties..do you want to pass the Late Nite donation plate for MoveOn?
PeteCO @ 38
Oh. Now THAT sucks!
Twain @ 35
No, I don’t think they have a clue yet. But they will . . .
Their worst nightmare can be summed up in two words: Ned Lamont.
Primary challenges can be insomnia-inducing.
Twain @ 35
Caught between two bases.
I gave. The idea of the betrayal of America is a great theme for our side. One idea I suggested is to print a list of the bills the creeps have filibustered with a tag like: Republicans: betraying the Military, the Constitution and the American People.
Mad Dogs @ 21
well just thank you for that
wangdangdoodle @ 41
thank you sistah!
burnspbesq @ 46
depends on what the friggin agreement is – and is not – before i start callling.
Happy Haircut, Suzanne!
TRex @ 37
Hmmmm…the solution! Are the kitties busy?
Steve-AR @ 49
We still have to get that fist video posted.
Dammit.
Got the email. Did they reach their goal? I also donated to Pete Stark last night for his wonderful defense of MoveOn. Any word on how he did?
Twain @ 48
Fortunately, my contingent in congress know which side their toast is buttered on…!!! *g*
wangdangdoodle @ 50
One of our cats isn’t that bright.
wangdangdoodle @ 57
thanks – it is very freeing – and looks great – short and sassy
burnspbesq @ 46
And does your tax law information service tell you what the agreement is? Are the Dems telling Bush to see if he feels like a lucky punk and wants to bet on a veto, or are they saying the Dems are rolling over yet again?
I have a deep affection for MoveOn. When Howard Dean took first place in their first ‘primary in 2003′ I became a Deaniac and I’ve never regretted supporting him.
I’m looking forward to Howard Dean being Al Gore’s running mate.
Gore/Dean 06
Howard Dean in Twenty Sixteen.
MoveOn Rocks!
PeteCO @ 62
clearly
That’s beautiful, TRex. Thank you.
PeteCO @ 62
Not if it did it more than once.
Hmmm … today the mailman brought me a questionnaire to be filled out … for the DNC.
I believe I’m going to enjoy giving them a piece of my mind.
Lindy @ 67
I live to serve.
Alright, if I start the dishes now I can be done in time to hang out for late late nite.
Back in a flash.
Astral Technician @ 65
and they are jingling all the way to the bank!
la la la!
TRex @ 70
Do you have a big family or did you skip dishes all week? How long does it take?
TRex @ 70
That’s a lot of dishes.
burnspbesq @ 69
Too bad there’s no way to widely circulate such a questionaire to progressive groups. Imagine the faces when the responses start comming in. Rahm’s head might just explode.
Peterr @ 64
The only detail that was mentioned is that the House agreed to the larger increase in tobacco excise taxes that was in the Senate bill. I infer from that that the agreed-upon bill will have the more liberal eligibility rules. But we’ll know for sure on Monday.
Normally, I feel cursed by having two apparently unbeatable Repuglican U.S. Senators.
Tonight, I perceive a slight silver lining to that cloud.
At least I don’t have to feel angry and humiliated by having a Democratic Senator who voted the Bush position to deify General Petraeus and trash MoveOn.org.
I hope that those who did hear an angry ROAR from their constituents.
Just in case anyone hasn’t had a chance to see the sorry roll call, here it is.
WaPo on SCHIP:
Sounds promising, though not as good as I’d like to see.
But as my doctoral advisor told me on more than one occasion, “don’t let the perfect become the enemy of the good.”
I sent them another donation today, just in celebration of our unity.
I hope MoveOn kicks the Dem Senators good and hard in their collective butts.
madmommy @ 74
Tex asked me to provide the snacks tonight since she will be occupied with family.
I only had time to do a quick bread pudding (picture and recipe included).
Evening all. You are definitely right, TRex, this has that signature Bush impact all over it. Sort of like, “Dead or Alive”, “Bring it on”, and “Mission Accomplished.”
what a reason for a progressive to NOT be cynical??
huh-sa whatsa huh??
and thats twice now Bush has helped raise 500k for his “enemies”.
First Darcy Burner,
Now MoveOn.org.
And I say, go for the jugular, I’ll be donating my measly $20 tonight. Cant wait to be a member of this fine organization.
Bill Maher just called Rudy “Vlad the Impaler.”
OT, other than it involves raising money for a good cause;

I’m very proud.

madmommy @ 74
Hmmm … I could scan it and save it as a pdf file, with my name and address redacted. Is there any way to put it on my Facebook page as a downloadable file?
ccmask @ 85
Quick, Senators! Pass a resolution!
ccmask @ 85
that fits.
DrDick @ 83
No doubt. More Double standards and selective memory for the Fascists in the whitehouse.
Suzanne @ 82
It is like french toast?
burnspbesq @ 87
pretty puh-leassse…..
kulshan @ 92
….with sugar on top??
Suzanne @ 82
Thanks. I love bread pudding so I printed your recipe.
burnspbesq @ 87
I still can’t figure out how to insert a link into a comment. But I’m guessing there’s some techies who might be of assistance in the room.
SnarKassandra @ 34
Yeah I know the feeling. My dishwasher up and left home years ago and now his wife won’t let me have him back.
SnarKassandra @ 92
No.
It’s a hundred times better — and I like French toast.
SnarKassandra @ 91
Freedom toast, please.
mmmm, thanks Suz — bread pudding is one of my all-time faves.
burnspbesq @ 87
make it a JPG or post it on a website and then post the link on facebook
Loo Hoo. @ 77
Dayam, Both of my Senators voted Nay… *g*
madmommy @ 96
A recipe for links:
(1) Type your comment into the comment box at the bottom of the thread.
(2) Open another tab or window in your browser, and go to the website you want to link to.
(3) Copy the URL of that site.
(4) Go back to the window with FDL in it, and highlight the text that you want to make into a hyperlink.
(5) Click on the button above the comment box marked “link,” and a popup window will appear. Paste the copied URL from step 3 into this box and hit “OK”
(6) In the popup window, your highlighted text will appear. If this is correct, hit “OK” to create the link, or edit the text to say something else and then hit “OK”.
(7) The popup window will close, and the link will appear in your comment.
(8) Finish the comment, and hit “submit” to send it on its way.
(9) Sit back and wait for everyone else to go “gosh — what a great site! Thanks, madmommy!!”
moveon has given repugs a taste of their own medicine and man are they howling or what!! oh yeahhhhhhhh i do love this moveon ;~)
C&L has a video of Eli Pariser of MoveOn squaring off against a right wing talking head (a Tucker stand-in on msnbc). The head was persistent in trying to get Eli to denounce the ad. Pariser was awesome!
MoveOn gave more money to political candidates than the NRA.
TRex, your writing rocks. I don’t even have time to read the comments, sadly, it’s off to bed again. But I had to pay a compliment to your fab skills at written snark. Beautiful.
And I’ve been forwarding that MoveOn email all evening — I donated yesterday and signed the petition, so now I’m on the mailing list. *g*
Got to go . . . have a great night, everyone!
Mad Dogs @ 58
From personal experience I have to say that is a really bad idea.
Loo Hoo. @ 77

Assistant US attorney arrested for attempting to have sex with a five year old is a registered Gooper (KOS)..Wonder why the prez didn’t talk about him in his presser- is he more or less disgusting than an ad about a general who stretches the truth?
hackworth @ 104
that’s got to have some knees knockin’ over there on the right.
I left a message with a (Sen. John) Cornyn staffer this morning criticizing him for wasting time on the Senate floor over the “Move On” so-called “controversy”. Then I asked her to ask him when he was going to condemn Rep. Boehner on the Senate floor for his “small sacrifice” comment (re the death of our troops).
I highly recommend this type of thing. It feels great to tell off the idiots. Not that they’ll get a clue. But hopefully Cornyn will be booted from his seat next year by Texas voters.
Don’t get mad..get even..kill two birds, etc.
link
It is somewhat amusing when the Dems FU and we are pissed about it, I start seeing little troll prints at FDL. Such as “I won’t give another penny to the Democrat Party”. Yeh right.
MoveOn gave more money to political candidates than the NRA.
This needs to be drilled into some talking heads, metaphorically speaking of course. Gotta link?

Go to Crooks and Liars and scroll down to the MoveOn video. Its clearly stated by the right wing talking head media whore at the end of the video segment after Pariser had thoroughly cleaned his clock. His computer chip had malfunctioned and he didn’t know what to say.
Snarka changes in the locker room and folds all clothes neatly in her gym bag and puts the gym bag in locker 111 and then climbs to the top of the ladder. She walks to the end and faces backwards. Bouncy, bouncy, giant bounce. Up and over. Beautiful form. Lands in the deep end only splashing CTuttle.
hackworth @ 136
sweet, thanks :)
Firing up the ol’ jukebox…
How much did you get cut off, Suzanne? Mine is just about long enough for a locks of love donation. At this stage, I just want it gone.
With being on my back, it’s getting incredibly tangled. If I were able to sit up, it would be gone now.
Night Peterr.

Thanks, I get as far as copy the URL and hit a wall. There’s no other way to ask without sounding like a dunce so here goes: do I need to actually type the entire URL manually or is there a way to click and mouse it from one window to another?
cassie, ya made me proud with that directed splash
Suzanne @ 130
How short are your shorn locks…??? 8-(
SnarKassandra @ 138
A directed splash! Excelent form for one still so young! Even the Bulgarian is impressed!
I’m going to go get the credit card and pay a little visit to MoveOn. Back in a bit. Someone keep the music going, ‘k?
TJ @ 140
When I was sick I braided my hair in two braids and that kept it neat. I like to wear it down but at 95 degrees and up I use a pony tail or a braid in the back.

Love this band. The lead singer came in to my shop in Telluride once years ago. As he passed by the window I was eye to eye with him and the sidewalk was a good 3 feet below the floor of the shop. The dude is very tall!
SnarKassandra @ 138
Now why would ya wanna do that for? Towel, Pretty Please?
madmommy: You can click and drag your cursor across the URL to highlight it, then use Control C to copy and Control V to paste it in the other window…
kinda OT, but speaking of washing dishes, TRex, did you see this today?
Lake Lanier sinking to a 50-year low?
snip:
~~~In the best-case scenario, the lake — metro Atlanta’s main water source — will fall another 9 feet, setting a new record low at 20 feet below its full level. At that point, every public boat ramp and dock, and nearly every private dock, will be high and dry.
In the worst case, the lake will drop another 20 feet, leaving just 4 feet of water storage and threatening the region’s water supply. Whether metro Atlanta could continue drawing water out of the lake and the Chattahoochee River it feeds is anybody’s guess right now.~~~
whose gonna give us a soundtrack… what’s that old song with the line, gotta move on, move on down the road
Yeah, have to say I am having a lot of trouble visualizing that. I second Snarky’s request for photo documentation.
I won’t give to MoveOn anymore $ until they vow and take pledges from the Democrats the support that they will stop this lunacy and call the Cornyn ammendment what it is: a fig leaf to change the topic and cover the President’s ass. Not a penny to any Democrat! Not until they stop this fiasco that they acquiesced to in the forst place.
TJ @ 202
Perfect! One braid or two?
The thing I missed most about my mom for a long time was how she brushed and braided and pony-tailed my hair.
I no longer frequent this blog, because the proprietors and principle writers here have openly and repeatedly proclaimed their contempt for women who have large families.
Indeed, this attitude has been celebrated by commenters. The principle author of this vile hate-speech is, of course, Trex, who has not been sanctioned by management even after CHS has stated that “it is not the policy of this site to allow such language:”. Obviously, Trex is given extra leeway to purvey his prejudices because he is regarded as a “friend”, and he does so under cover of darkness (Late Night). He has certainly not gained his stature by brilliant writing… I wonder what James Joyce, or any other writer or critic worth half a s*it would have to say regarding such a stellar phrase as “spraying babies like a garden hose”?
It is a shame. If the staff and contributors here are truly interested in promulgating progressive values, they are sadly misguided in alienating millions of progressive Catholics and Christians who choose to have large families. Whether or not you approve of their decisions to do so, it is counter-productive to speak of them as if they were dogs.
Any half-assed student of liberal politics would have a clue that progress doive Catholics have brought more to the activist table than any other group in the country, including the GLBT community. From Dorothy Day to Stephen Colbert, we have made inroads on worker rights and the plight of the poor for centuries. By Deeds, Not Words.
We don’t need to mouth simple-minded, hateful pap on the Net – we are in the streets, where we have been for centuries, and where we will be long after the puny voices of Trex and his ilk are lost to the wind.
Just another thing to piss you off.
NYT
Looks to me like Alfred meant it last night. Sigh.
Good night folks. More crap to move in the AM.
Cleanup on 205.
wangdangdoodle @ 148
Remember this Canned Heat classic?
Elliott @ 176
Sounds like the back cover of Melissa Etheridge’s third album. Yes?
Wow. 205. Didn’t logoff soon enough.
Loo Hoo. @ 26
That’s the problem with our media. Even though the Decider bolted right after that answer, I didn’t hear anyone even try to ask him what he thought about Perry and the Swift Boaters, or what they did to Max Cleland. The Decider is a very small man. And 70% of America knows it.
Suzanne @ 179
I didn’t cut mine short enough last week. Thinking about the same movie, but maybe Sharon Stone short for myself?
Oh, and FIDDY DOLLAH, MoveOn!! That is a fooking challenge, mofos!
Cassie, I’ve read your posts about your troubles with your mother, and I am so sorry. But, tonight was the first time I read that you were sick. What was wrong? If that’s okay to ask.
Loo Hoo. @ 210
A classic classic!
Don’t forget the ACLU when dishing out those donations.
Something else on topic.
Suzanne @ 158
Like minds. See my 210!
burnspbesq @ 211
LMAO
LaFourmiRouge @ 206
What are you talking about? I haven’t seen anyone criticize large families.
SnarKassandra @ 204
I had him do 2 because I am laying on my back.
I wish I could brush and braid for you, Cassie.
solai @ 214
Last week I had a fever for three days and was in bed a lot. Or on the couch. But I get really hot when I am sick and so I like to put my hair out of the way.
Leave TRex’s dissenter to TRex to deal with folks.
humboldtblue @ 216
Sierra Club, too.
Me too madmommy.
I once brought all my hair stuff to the prison when I went to visit but they wouldn’t let me bring any of it inside the visiting room.
Okay.. Blackwater’s being accused of smuggling arms (presumably for profit) to supply teruhrist insurgents in Iraq.. Justice Dept’s investigating, at least until shrub fires the AUSA in charge.
http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/…..index.html
1. isn’t this treason? 2. can mercs commit treason? 3. following official shrubco policy, shouldn’t people who help the terrorizers be summarily disappeared into an eastern european black site for years of gratuitous torture and sexual humiliation.. in which case shouldn’t Blackwater execs be screaming in some CIA-run hole somewhere by about now? …I’m not advocating such a fate for them, to be clear.. just saying that some consistency might be a good thing once in a while…
Is that Frnch for Rude Cheese?
DrDick @ 218
thanks
Suzanne @ 223
I mean it folks.
maybe bush needs to send his whole white house to a prison in eastern europe. including himself.
Wow, Suzanne, some harbor a grudge for a very long time… Here’s an oldie about where we’re at environmentally…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10BbpGKLXqk
madmommy @ 169
Great Victory, Madmommy! Congrats!
SnarKassandra @ 226
That was just mean. I understand they worry about things brought in, but come on, hair brushes and ponytail holders? Pathetic.
Suzanne @ 230
oops, sorry… I type too slow.
((mwah!))
SnarKassandra @ 223
Glad it was just a passing illness. You had me worried.
TheOtherWA @ 233
Yeah. I was 12. I understand the metal clips are a priblem but it was a plastic brush.
GordonM @ 208
What is this referring to?
solai, i believe gordon is moving.
fuck – sprinkling again
(having used up d/b’s pre-paid quarters, I’m back to putting quarter in swear jar)
Suzanne @ 238
I think he was referring to Alfred saying he wouldn’t be back.
Loo Hoo. @ 210
DAMN! That was my first 4 Track tape! : )
TJ @ 241
What?????
solai @ 237
Kirk Murphy went off on Althespook. Al left, vowing never to return.
that is something alfred said last night on late late night after i had left for the night. he’s said it before and came back.
He quit his FDL groups on facebook too. But he is still giving us a coffee table and a dresser.
burnspbesq @ 244
What happened?
Ruh roh. *confused Scooby look on TOW’s face*
(insert diversionary witty link here)
TJ @ 241
he cut out of a lot of things today on facebook, including the firedoglake group
TheOtherWA @ 248
And on DrD’s
anyone wanting to know what happened, go read late nite and then late late nite from last night.
One of the reasons I started hanging out at FDL was that people here could disagree and have a good argument without it turning into flames. I hope we don’t lose that.
TJ @ 252
ME TOO !!!!!!!
burnspbesq @ 244
Left our facebook group, too. I missed the fireworks last night. Damn it, Jim! Can’t we all just get along?
Suzanne @ 240
Check out the neat umbrella I found today. Second story at the link. If I was still in NYC, I’d want it.
My typing speed must be about 3 WPM.
OT: Anti Blackwater petition:
Stop the new mafia. Keep Blackwater out of California. Sign the petition.
pretty pic of a kitten and a dog. :)
Missed it all.. I can only get access on my laptop now. I think FDL may now be blocked from our machines :(
that is way cool for city folk, ccmask
Cozumel @ 242
4 track, I thought they were 8 tracks…!!!
SnarKassandra @ 259
Aaawwwwwww!!! Cute overload!
ccmask @ 256
Heh.
Not sure how it would hold up under really windy conditions! Cute, though.
LaFourmiRouge @ 206
Whoa, and scuzze me, I don’t ever recall an FDL article asking people to limit the size of their families. This is kinda like on the other side of reality, sis. Glad you like your large family, though. Buy lots of lots of.
peanutbutter @ 258
…now that they’re being accused of supporting teruhrism and arming insurgents in Iraq, for profit… urgh.. how much worse can this get??
Hi everyone….. what’s going on?
burnspbesq @ 244
What’s in the air these days…???
CTuttle @ 262
4 Track was before 8 Track. Yeah, I’m that old! LOL
Well I am not having any babies for at least five years!
But my family might get bigger if my brother gets married. And then probably they will have a baby.
*runs over to jukebox during pitching change*
Melissa!
LooHoo, I asked the thread to leave it alone – and that includes you.
Hiya Katymine!
If there is a topic I lost it an hour ago.
my mother had ten babies
it was like growing up in the middle of a circus.
and i was, as a baby,often sprayed with the garden hose.(it was hot,we loved it.)
one of the benefits of being a member of a clown car troop was arriving at adulthood not thin skinned and twitchy.
i have huge respect for my parents for another aspect of my upbringing,in that religeon was not an issue.(honesty and respect were though)we were shown the courtesy of being allowed to examine and follow our own spiritual path.yes,it can be done.
as for my own?
private and personal.
and any organised outfit be they Hindu,Jewish,Bhuddist,Islamic,
Christian or Zoroastran for that matter can without my express invitation keep their beady god-bothering eyes and their greedy little sharp clawed paws away from my soul!
May, that includes you – we are going to leave the anti-TRex folks alone.
LaFourmiRouge @ 206
WTF? where would you get that idea…. I am the mother of 1 biological kid, 2 adopted kids and 6 foster kids AND I have been hanging out here for YEARS and have NEVER heard anyone say anything about my family except WAY to go Katymine!
AND everyone of my kids graduated high school, none were in trouble with the law AND two graduated college so :P
Put a Little Love in Your Heart
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YC2Q3FdpX6I
SnarKassandra @ 269
I’d recommend finishing college, and maybe get your master’s before having kids. You want to enjoy your time with them, not be writing term papers.
Katymine do you still know all your foster kids? Do they call you or email?
******blowing whistle*********
Let TRex respond to his critics – he’s a big guy and can handle it himself.
Blub @ 277
…or sooner…!!! ;-)
hey, don’t confuse the DNC with the DCCC. the former is Howard Dean & his 50 state strategy and the latter is Rahm.
SnarKassandra @ 269
Not to try to tell you how to live your life or anything, but there’s no need to be in a hurry. Live a little. Get all the degrees you want. Fall in love as many times as your heart can stand. Get your career established. I was almost 39 (and spouse was 40) when Man-Cub was born. Hasn’t worked out so badly.
sorry Suzanne ,did it before thinking.
(must have been my upbringing,sheesh!)
Suzanne…. I will do that if I have to have chemo. No sense spending weeks picking up all the hair off the floor…. The best part is never having to save your legs :)
“I just might have a problem that you’ll understand…”
Man, is that true.
(I’m singing along with Bill Withers…)
TJ @ 281
Trust me on this (I have first hand experience), if at all possible wait until you are out of college (I am thinking Ph. D.) before you have children. College is hard enough without trying to raise children at the same time.
SnarKassandra @ 273
FIDDY DOLLAH! MoveOn!
A little Jeff Beck anyone? ; )
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wHaRAfxLd7g
Definitely finish college, I think. Most of my friends had their first ones while in grad/law school or shortly thereafter… ‘course by that time Blackwater may be running the country, at the rate the republic is falling over the edge of a cliff.
or your armpits katymine :)
it had been long for a long time – now it is short and the ponytail is going to locks of love
katymine @ 287
Katy, your spirit is uplifting. The not shaving part is priceless!
SnarKassandra @ 205
I bet, Cassie. This is a very special Mom/Daughter ritual. This is one of my very favorite rituals I had with my daughters when they were ages 1-12. After that, of course, they wouldn’t want me involved.
Fixing the hair was so important, it involved the touching, the caring, and the sense of style/good grooming issues. Young mothers, ENJOY!
Cozumel @ 269
Do you remember Mad Man Muntz?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madman_Muntz
Hey, Pups,
I went to a memorial for a friend’s dad tonight and two really cool things happened. Well, three.
First, the friend’s sister told me I look just like Susan Sarandon, and was astonished no one had ever told me that before. Later she said it’s the eyes. Odd. Flattering, but odd. The red hair probably didn’t hurt the resemblence either.
Over dinner I ended up chatting with the friend’s sister’s husband who’s been with The Oregonian (dead tree newspaper, est. circa 1853) for a long time. Apparently that paper is still privately held and can operate on smaller margins and reduce staff with early retirement buyouts instead of layoffs. Then I asked him about McClatchy and he said “Public company, I think. Why?” So we had a little conversation about how they were doing real, honest-to-god old-fashioned Journalism from the very beginning of the Iraq invasion and were right all along. His feeling was that as a 2nd tier paper, they didn’t have the cocktail-weenie feeling of obligation to the Beltway Monde. He also feels that as a news organization they’re not ideology driven, and are thus more difficult to label than the NYT or WaPo.
But most coolest was right after I learned how to prounouce Minot SD. (It’s MINE-ott). One of the people in that conversation was my friend’s first cousin, who just happens to be a foreign affairs producer for The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer! Small freakin’ world. Ka-RAY-zee, man. Good thing we got to intros before I really stuck my foot in it vis a vis the MSM. I was pretty polite, I hope, and non-hostile, but did share that there’s some strong feeling on in the Left Blogosphere that much “balance” on TNHour is between Faaaaaar Right and not quite as far right. And he says the change of political views on the PBS board hasn’t affected editorial/production policy at TNHour in a way he’s noticed. No messages from on high vetoing this or that guest commentator.
Anyway, meeting a couple of journalists by chance was a hoot. And, yes, the NewsHour guy was straight-up, I just found him on the staff list at PBS.
OK, g’night for now, pups. I’m off on more semi-social adventures aka miles to go before I sleep.
Wishing all Pups the very best.
FunnyDiva
LaFourmigrouch or whoever is trolling, kids. Plain and simple. Anytime anyone comes to your place and says, “I NO LONGER FREQUENT THIS PLACE…”, it’s pretty clear that they’re still fucking here, innit?
I’m so glad you’re coming by my blog to tell me that you don’t read my blog. Thanks for the update. I’ve been lying awake at night, I tell you…
I can’t believe the mods paged me in from the kitchen sink for this.
Margot @ 276
Oh, Margot! I’m getting all squishy. Thanks you, thank you, thank you!
SnarKassandra @ 282
My kids would show up at odd times, stay a while and then on… some only stayed a few months. Shannon and David were the longest, Shannon graduated from ASU last May and is sharing an apartment not far away. David is 30 now, learned a trade and moved away.
Who wants some toast? ; )
Margot @ 289
love Bill Withers!
TRex, you know that you can let the soapy water from one dish fall on the other dishes and glasses so they get clean too? How many days of dishes do you have?
DrDick @ 289
Mom says my first sentence was, “Daddy’s at the library.” He was working on his doctorate. I think he finished when I was around 7, because he was also working full time to support us. So Dr. D knows what he is talking about.
Who said I am going to go past college?
Suzanne @ 283
Is it wrong for me to be looking forward to this?
;)
TJ @ 241
Wait! Is that AK/althespook? Is he gone forever? WTF?
I go to bed by 11pm ONE NIGHT, and everything goes to sh*t. dayam!
TJ @ 305
My son was three when I started graduate school. He was 13 when I finished.
Somehow I missed the drams.
He’ll be back. All the beasts seem to return to the watering hole sooner or later.
SnarKassandra @ 306
Young lady, a mind like yours is a terrible thing to waste. I will personally send the guilt police after you if you do not.
LaFourmiRouge @ 206
Clown car?
SnarKassandra @ 306
I like education :).. save America! become an engineer, or a doctor, or a teacher
DrDick @ 308
Cheers to you for making it through with a family.
Blub @ 312
architect or journalist or something with math
TJ @ 314
Mostly did it the hard way, on my own. Last time I (or he) saw his mother was right before I started graduate school.
3 WPM
:(
And trying to get an advanced degree later in life is HELL. I worked full time and went to grad school full time while raising kids…. Told my own that if they wanted an advanced degree, get it now because they saw how hard it was for an old fart.
My suspicion is that Cass may go to law school. Comey’s speech that LHP posted a few days ago makes me think she’d be perfect.
And now a little message from the creator of the t00bz!
I’m listening to tonight’s Late Late Nite selection. This groove is so tight, it’s loose. I need to track this down for my own collection.
I temporarily do not hate baseball.
wangdangdoodle @ 317
Me too!
TJ @ 318
:) :) you have a link?
Mary, leave it be please :)
Innit just the greatest that we can say things like this: we “have been hanging out here for YEARS”?
I adore it….
DrDick @ 315
Even more kudos to you. I hope your son appreciates the example you set.
burnspbesq @ 322
I’ll take up your slack.
Actually, give me baseball over football any day, though.
F*&king football…
SnarKassandra @ 315
yeah! those are good too… and they both (generally) require graduate-level education these days :)… math is good too… hence the engineering.. the US now produces 4000-6000 engineers a year, compared with 100,000 in China. If you’re good at math, please please please get a doctorate.. for the sake of the Republic
Suzanne @ 325
Sorry. I didn’t read all the way through and missed you request.
wangdangdoodle,
Glad you like!
Hiya, tw3k-3!
My brother is giving me “the look”. Good night y’all!!!
little miss muffett
sat on her tuffet
eating her rotten milk
along came a spider
and sat down beside her
and she said
rack off hairy legs
and that goes for the rest of your ilk
alright.
i’ll stop now.
true!.
DrDick @ 310
The spirit of Barbara Jordan is whispering “law school, child” in Cassie’s ear.
TJ @ 327
Well, it seems to have done some good. He is a wonderful father and even his wife says I taught him right. ;~)
wangdangdoodle @ 332
hi hi hi
TRex @ 328
Cheer up TRex. It’s homecoming weekend here at U of M.
Before I go — does graduate school have scholarships too? Or just regular college?
My boyfriend is in NOLA getting the Monday Night Football game ready in the dome. I guess the city was in high drama because of the storm warnings which did not pan out. He also said that in some areas there has been huge improvements.
I don’t know how to search past posts here except page by page. Can anyone give me instructions?
Nite, Cassie!
pssst…now at number 336-plus…somebody tell the dishwashing therapod the comments have gotten rather deep…
SnarKassandra @ 333
Night Cassie.
DefendOurConstitution @ 175
Unclear on the concept.
Rayne @ 342
shhhhhh don’t tell anyone that Late Late Nite will be posting soon
Rayne @ 343
Woah, That’s Deep Man!
Rayne @ 343
Keep your shirt on, sister! It’s coming. It’s in the queue and should be going off momentarily.
What’s this about Al no longer coming here because of some fallout i missed?
Eesh, i play a set on Second Life as my usual DJ stuff and i miss everything. *frowns* Really don’t like that all that was going on to begin with. Tempers are frayed this week period. Whcih is why i took the bit and ran with it in my set. Played all the crazy dance music i could FIND and then some tonight.
It was worth it.
TJ @ 253
My fervent hope too! I sent AK a FB plea…!!!
SnarKassandra @ 339
Girl, if you are a math major and female, you may be able to go all the way without paying. You would be a very rare thing.
And much needed — every time I get a blue screen of death on my WinPC, I wonder how few women there were on the design team. [sigh]
SnarKassandra @ 338
Financial aid like regular college. Depending on the field, fellowships too. As a female engineer you could probably get your graduate education free.
SnarKassandra @ 339
if you go the math/sci route, you’ll likely be able to get full funding… consider my alma mater (MIT) :)
aliasofwestgate @ 349
Al not coming back? What happened?
Nitey Snarky!
SnarKassandra @ 339
Yes, though not as many. I think, however, with your abilities you will not have a problem there.
TRex @ 348
You know, I don’t take my shirt off for any old therapod.
TRex @ 321
I think Der Chimpenführer confused Nelson Mandela with Martha and the Vandellas.
That’s my story, anyways, and I’m rocking to it.
Gotta be tough being Cassie. She’s got like 19 gazillion honorary aunts and uncles.
We love you, kiddo.
Well, hello, my little chickadees. ^_^
TJ @ 352
for grad school, more like fellowship with stipent (paid to go to school).. if you do math or a related area, especially at a top program. I don’t think I paid a cent after undergad
TeddySanFran @ 345
Smells a bit like a troll to me.
That’s what i want to know!
SnarKassandra @ 339
If I had it to do over again I would major in Finance and Real Estate ; )
Rayne etc.
Does it help also that my mom is Mexican-American (Texican really) and I am Hispanic on my school papers?
Blub @ 360
I’m not sure law schools do much beyond stardard financial aid.
Rayne @ 357
HA!!!
If I had to do it over again, I think I would go to medical school.
burnspbesq @ 359
That’s so true. And she’s old enough to talk to and give advise to. My niece is almost 3, so the only advice I can give her is “don’t eat that!” or, “stop right there!” when she’s climbing something.
go read last nites late nite and late late nite for the ak stuff
Hiya Liss, ready for a new thread?
TRex @ 368
If I had it all to do over again I would be a midwife.
SnarKassandra @ 339
There’s scholarships for everything. Just need to look. I actually found it much easier to fund my way thru grad school what with RAships and TAships.
Hey, Suzanne — remember this one from the late 60s?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Ot4LvxKURs
SnarKassandra @ 365
Oh yes. Female, ethnic minority, and smart as hell? Darling most elite institutions would kill to get you.
Funnydiva2002 @ 308
I do not want Alfred to go away. He is very smart and funny. I hope he comes back. This is not a school – it’s for learning and pleasure and meeting people you enjoy talking with. Could we not lecture and insult people?
Late Late, come on up!
TJ @ 366
hehe.. she said she likes math. So I’m trying to convince her to consider engineering school or the sciences.. where she probably would get a free ride :)
Not sure if we need that many more lawyers.. although I am hoping for a good decade worth of Blackwater treason prosecutions… this latest fiasco tonight has me super super steamed.
SnarKassandra @ 365
It may. If I were you, I’d start doing a little internet-based research into scholarships for all those things: math students, girls in technology/math, hispanic, texas, etc.
You’ll find links like this one; you should also check in with the closest chapter of G.I. Forum since they are strong proponents of Hispanic education. And you should hunt down the local chapter of AAUW and look into their student membership, along with their scholarship program. (you need $ for a student membership, let us know.)
There’s a big misconception about what attorneys make, money wise. Many if not most make $40K a year, or less
Suzanne @ 272
Huh? What did I miss?
While Petraeus was in DC giving Congress the Big Chat about how the US military is busting its as to restore secuity and rebuild the Iraqi nation, Bush’s Texas Oil buddy was ‘banking’ on the concept that there won’t be an Iraqi nation.
Nice of Hunt Oil to be so supportive of the troops, no?
http://iraqoilreport.com/?s=Hunt Oil
QUICK!! Blame MoveOn!!!
Do not look at the oil deals being inked behind the curtain…
Anyone in the Senate happen to mention this little factoid during the blame-fest on that MoveOn ad…? Just askin’.
roTLs…
…Stealth means and methods have been fully engaged to preempt,prevent and provide cover for American intents/desires and western big energy corporatists intentions on/in Iraq.
…but as with the ‘cloaking device’ as seen on StarTrek episodes ever now and then it takes lots of energy to run stealth/cloak mode.
or it takes lots of deception,misdirection or just plain truthslay and liemongering…
If our War President/Mission Fubar Decider Dear Leader G.W.Bush really wanted to take Iraq and make Iraq an American run sandbox then he surely needed to do so in ways and in scale that he clearly cocked up eight ways over.
The Americans may well kill off a third of all present day Iraqis and form a HellWorld in Iraq just to get at,control and profit from Iraqi oil.
I dont think the Americans can garrison Iraq at the levels needed to sustain suppression of Iraqis.
Of course there is the Israeli model for Arab Palestine which may well be how Americans think Iraq can be caged and killed off.
Just like A.Hitler or Tojo would have done it.
So who are the good guys in ME?
Sure as hell it is not the Americans.
I’ve sent money-love just now to Move-On for them to do more More-On.
I hope others will do what they can to ensure that Move-On’s voice sounds across the nation.
I don’t know if this has occurred to anybody else:
By calling Petraeus out with the word “betray”, his defenders have reacted by saying this is a fate worse than death..it is dishonor. To be charged with treason, they suggest, is how anyone in uniform would interpret the word betray.
Citizens, on the other hand, apparently cannot be betrayed by our Military. It is beyond the pale. Instead, I suppose we are victims of “friendly fire”. We are the un-patriotic. We are the supporters of terrorists. We want to lose on the field of battle. We do not support the troops.
Petraeus may be a victim of “friendly fire” too. He is the Human Shield behind which Bush cowers. It doesn’t matter if Petraeus is willing or not. He’s gonna get hit by “friendly fire”.
“”"The message from MoveOn members was loud and clear: Don’t back down. Take the fight back to the issues that matter.
For you see, every time the Bush administration demonizes an opponent, an angel gets its wings.”"”
Seriously, [MOD: edited to remove insult to poster] Who was deminizing whom here? It was Move On that started personal attacks and insults on a military soldier whom both the left and the right voted to confirm to do the job. Then you attack him personnally as a traitor the country. There was absolutley NO REASON why move on had you use a petty personal attack and go after a generals charater rather then argue the facts – except maybe they felt the facts wouldn’t support their argument.
General Petraeus needs to be reminded that we, the taxpayers, pay his salary, and that he exists to defend the rights of all Americans to express themselves.
Keep using alot of ???? marks
like FOX NOISE Are the Dem’s helping
the Terrorist??? “BETRAY US???”
Get it!!!
madmommy @ 74
Is it legal to just make a copy or five thousand and give it/them to the “progressive groups”? No, I don’t know. I’m asking… I’ve got a copier at work that is one of the many company resources I misuse. Just sayin’…
neurophius @ 76
My Senators are Cardin & Mikulski. Neither is up for re-election in 2008. Maryland is “blue.” Yet BOTH voted for the travesty of a bill.
I can’t figure it out.
I wholeheartedly agree with MoveOn.org. And TRex, great YouTube pick. I haven’t heard Soul II Soul in ages.
Time to go on a YouTube expedition!!!!
are you sure you want to refer to Bush as a mensch? My dictionary defines mensch as: A person having admirable characteristics, such as fortitude and firmness of purpose
Instead of mensch, there are a couple of other Yiddish terms that come to mind, both beginning with an s.
Buddy Hackett (in a pharmacy): Is this the place where I can get some shtup?
Female tech: Not even with a prescription.
I heard that the General Betray Us moniker was first coined by troops serving under General Petraeus in Iraq.
If true, this sheds even more light on how absolutely absurd, and completely un-American, the Senate vote was the other day.
I served in the U.S. Air Force in the early 1970s, and remember some of the things that were said about officers back then, so it wouldn’t surprise me at all if some of our soldiers over in Iraq initially came up with General Betray Us to describe their feelings.
Of course, like what has happened in scientific breakthroughs where scientists on opposite sides of the world get the same idea at the same time, some of our soldiers serving admirably in Iraq and someone at MoveOn may have hit upon General Betray Us at the same time. Whatever happened, it is still a great play on words, describing perfectly a general who obviously has placed his partisan political ambitions ahead of our troops and our Constitution.
The American patriots at MoveOn are fulfilling their constitutional duty. Our soldiers are fulfilling their constitutional duty. The senators who voted for this Senate action the other day have betrayed their oath to the U.S. Constitution and abrogated their duties as representatives of We The People.
