You have to wonder what on earth the Republicans (and Joe Lieberman, natch) were thinking when they voted down Senator Webb’s plan to ensure that our nation’s soldiers are rested and mentally and physically ready to go into battle. What could possibly justify the continuation of the cruel, punishing policies that send soldiers back to war when they are not yet fit to fight?
Fellow Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska, a co-sponsor of Webb’s plan, said Republican senators were heavily lobbied by the administration against the measure.
“The White House has been very effective of making this a loyalty test for the party,” Hagel said after the vote.
Oh.
So, let me get this straight. The welfare of our armed men and women now takes a back seat to demonstrating your complete obeisance to President 25%?
That should tell every person in America everything they need to know about the Republican Party, a group of men and women who would rather frag the troops than cross King George.
Good to know.

Congratulations, CT !
((((( Suz & the Mod Squad )))))
Fuckery.
Think there’s ever a snowball’s chance in h*ll that Hagel would ever change party affiliation?
TeddySanFran @ 7
What kind?
TRex, I’ve heard no one put this with as much pith and punch as you today. Thank you.
Great post. We all know how the GOP supports the troops – at the end of a rope.
Most excellent 503, TRex.
Check out the RNC Chair’s logic…

Or the end of a gun.
Or the end of the road.
The White House must have privatized KKKarl Rove. This looks like his handiwork.
neurophius @ 9
Ugly-as-a-baboon’s-asshole Chickenhawk fuckery, that’s what kind.
TeddySanFran @ 7
Absolutely but will the Dems take Hagel’s comment and put today’s debacle at the feet of BushCo ?
I’m not holding my breath …
Thanks for the suggestions in the earlier thread, Teddy !
The USA has such very large (much bigger than today’s) problems facing it for the next twenty years or so, mainly of its making … all of this stuff accumulates and weaves itself together, you know. Next year’s election won’t magically make it all go away.
I know all you folks at FDL know and appreciate this. I really wish the USA would begin to leave the rest of the world alone to get on with things, and go into twice or thrice weekly therapy sessions.
Suzanne @ 12
What is a “503″??
Evening, all!
Well, we knew how smart they were. :-P
Suzanne @ 12
What’s a 503, 502?
Taught two classes back to back this evening, and came home just in time to see The Daily Show. Pretty tuckered at this point, and in the morning I still need to finish getting ready for my other class. But I put up a new open thread over at my blog, and thought some of you might enjoy the pretty picture.
TRex @ 16
Unfortunately, I can picture that.
This is TRex’s 503rd post here at the Lake – we celebrated 500 on the first Late Nite last nite.

So, acknowledge last post, damn ‘lil bitches.

May they all rot in the hell of their own making.
They are the dinosaurs, we are the meteor.

Dayam, I’m always late…!!!
Lets see… from 60-100 dead military every month, 9 billion dollars a month… and I keep wondering what nasty secret Bushco has on these repugs to keep them all marching in line.
Jon @ 18
What’s been happening in the last 6 years is continuation of a policy from the ’60s and ’70s, except the battleground was mainly Central & South America and the “enemy” was communism.
And what was all that bullshit about how not running for re-election was gonna free up Senator Mr Elizabeth Taylor from Virginia to enable him to vote his fucking conscience, anyway? Backstabbing motherfucker didn’t even tell his co-Senator from Virginia, Jim Webb (with whom he co-sponsored the amendment last summer!) that he was gonna vote against it, even though he told his own GOP caucus in their stupid super-secret “Hi Larry Craig!” lunch meeting yesterday.
Senator John Warner, your integrity took a big hit today. You’re just another Bush toady, as it turns out. Fuck you.
neurophius @ 25
Well, shoot, and here I was ready to theorize it was a web page status code.
*slinks back under geek cover*
Another example of Bush the psychopath. It’s not his fault that Iraq is fucked up; if the military had done a better job we would win. They can stay in Iraq until they do the job right or come home in a box. Hitler had the same idea; the Germans deserved to die because they didn’t fight hard enough.
CD @ 27
I have some special uh catnip put aside for when we are graced with another visit from Senor Gato.
Just stopped in to say good night! Working’s putting a crimp in my late night hours…
I have a very heavy heart about today’s vote… what a bunch of assholes! (and I’m none to pleased with the Dems either)
Evening, all. Sorry to have missed Late Nite, but my flight was delayed leaving SF and I just got home.
Primo stuff, TRex.
And Big Mitch, if you’re still around:
Re Skokie, we’re just going to have to agree to disagree. Either everyone has free speech, or no one has it.
If we all were still wondering how the military vote has trended in the last election (it was never announced, by the way,) this answers all our questions, doesn’t it?
In the meantime, there’s some chickenhawks sitting in the House and the Senate right now that desperately need to find their way to a recruiter’s office if they think back-to-back fifteen month tours of duty are appropriate or humane.
Bastards.

Petrocelli @ 34
Goes back much further than that. US military intervention in Latin American has been continuous since the early 1900s (IIRC something over 50 armed interventions). I actually have a list I use in one of my classes.

Alright, kids, it’s going to be an early night for me. I had kind of an emotional day. I am worried that my grandfather may not make it much longer. Say a prayer for him and for my family.
See you all tomorrow night.
Ed*ard Teller @ 44
Seconded.

No. IIRC, according to Howie Klein, Hagel has one of the worst Right-Wing, wacko voting records in the Senate.

EPU’d –
Petrocelli @ 411
I wish! I haven’t finished the revisions, and I’m corresponding with some people about the propriety of one of the revision concepts.
Back in 2004, when we tried to premiere The Skies are Weeping in Anchorage, an Israeli-American blogger created a protest meme against my work, which keeps recurring when people present or create art about Rachel Corrie – the All the Other Rachels meme.
Essentially, there have been, since before the First Intifada, Israeli or American-Israeli women killed in terrorist attacks in Israel who were named “Rachel.” At premieres of “Skies” and of “My Name is Rachel Corrie,” protesters invariably appear with signs and handouts based on the material of the second link above, and show up at discussion groups at these peformances, asking “Why not write music about all these other Rachels.”
That has been going on for three and 1/2 years now, and nobody seems to have written the music. I’ve started on a piece about that, but I’m not sure it would really be appreciated, from me, by the originators of the meme. When I wrote “The Skies,” I asked permission to do the project from the Corrie family, and they were in on the creative process. I would want them and the families of “all the other Rachels” involved in this in the same way, which is complicated, to say the least!
{{{{Trex}}}} much love to your grandpa and to your family.
TRex @ 46
Will do, TRex.
Two words which should strike fear into the ReThug Party:

“The White House has been very effective of making this a loyalty test for the party,” Hagel said after the vote.
———————————
They have? How did the White House do this? Did they threaten to send George Bush to “help campaign” for the Senators who voted in favor of the measure? Because frankly, that’s about the only threat that the White House can make these days.
DrDick @ 43
I was waiting for you to fix it before replying … *g* … I’m sure your figures are correct, I was born in the 60’s, so my knowledge of it was from then, onwards.

Ms. Margot is that an unclad ankle I am seeing?

hmm, haven’t tried pounding, but I do intense accupressure to certain points along back of skull, really helps. If she manages to pound on one of those spots, bet it would be more tolerable for a little while. If you learn those accupressure points, bet your wife would appreciate it a lot more than a scolding *g*
Petrocelli @ 35
Yeah, I know, but it just don’t make any of this any easier to deal with.
Our backs are up against the wall, that’s for sure. And NEVER in my lifetime, did I think I’d be here for this, as far as it’s gone in the toilet.
And the pace is quickening, evermore, too.
At this rate, I might still be here when it’s come to a finale, duct tape and plastic sheeting be damned. At 54, I never dreamed I’d be seeing any of this . . . not until 2000, and the erection, that is. At THAT point, I was real worried. More than I’ve ever been.
And now, well, it’s a daily samo samo . . . sad.

Zogby out with a 29% approval for Clusterfuck- his lowest rating ever in that poll. Clusterfuck was on an upswing- fueled by returning gooper love- either this is a bad read- or the gooper love is dwindling again.. at any rate- the Petraeus dog an pony was apparently not the pancea some had hoped.
teh wall has been officially hit. Good night all!

I don’t believe that. I believe they are dumb enough to follow the Decider over the cliff.
ET: Are you following any of the Pete (Got) Kott trial? Today was a corker with the $30k in the closet and the tie-in with Conoco too.
BigMitch @ 112
I heard he was taking this week off.
OK, I’m so late to the un-party here that I can’t digest the comment-swirl. But I offer this up at risk it has been said perhaps multiple times above and possibly in better and stronger terms. But it better be said at least once.
It’s wholly appropriate to knock republic party heads around for dissing the troops in favor of sickly obeisance to the losers in the white house. Of course that is what the redcoats on the hill have been doing in embarrassing quantity for the last seven years.
What is more of a surprise, totally unacceptable, and a huge disappointment considering recent history, is that the democrats “up” there would be such passive wusses that they do not at least force the scarlet knights to at least trot out a proper filibuster.
What the hell are they thinking, basically letting the potential for a filibuster in effect finesse the process?
Democrats: please remember to put on some underpants (or Depends might be more appropriate) before showing up for your lazy-assed job tomorrow.
It would have made for wonderful video, the repubs having to talk endlessly while shielding their identities. It’s not out of the question that if our demo-worms had called their bluffs most if not all of the presidential candidates would have had to call in sick.
This stinks of Rahm, the Lieberman-wannabe.

Al speaks very highly of your abilities, and I’m wondering if you have any insights. I’m having severe pain in my upper back/shoulder, going around under my arm. I’ve been to the doc twice in 2 days. Muscle relaxers aren’t helping. The doc thinks it might be shingles that haven’t erupted yet.
Any thoughts?
Ahgoo @ 116
Kott’s GF was the embroiderer of the Veco Corrupt Bastards Club baseball cap. Oops, said “baseball” when da Mitch is in da house.
Well CT is here, and he endorsed the views of Burns, so let me clarify.
The constitution has a lot of compromises in it. I believe in the constitution. Therefore, I accept a lot of compromises. One that I accept is complete freedom of speech, minus such things as libel, slander, trade secrets, state secrets, and use of public airways, etc. You can’t yell theater in a crowded firehouse, sort of thing.
The Nazis, it breaks my heart to say, had a right to free speech. Skokie had a right to regulate it, as long as it did so without reference to content. A fair application of that rule, probably (but not certainly) meant that they had to give the Nazi’s the permit. I bought the package on the Constitution, and therefore, that goes with the deal.
Why is it even close? Well, there is the doctrine of fighting words, and it is hard to imagine something more odius. But, truth to tell, the law is based on “reasonable man” assumptions, and the reasonable man is never provoked to violence.
The real problem is that the Nazi showed that for all of its brilliance, the constitution may have been powerless to protect Holocaust survivors from the verbal assualt of a bunch of worthless assholes. I say “may have” because as I recall the whole story, the Nazis ended up not able to march as they wanted, and they settled for being removed to a place where their provocative hate speech was, well, not so provocative.
My bitch with the ACLU is not that they took the case: they have a right to do that, too.If I had been asked, I would have considered not taking it which is also their right, because bad cases make bad law. What tweeked me off was that they purposefully used a Jewish lawyer and that this was part of their litigation strategy. Either they win on the facts and the law, or they lose. That kind of stagecraft gives lawying a bad name.
There must be something here that you can agree with, CT. No?
Suzanne @ 129
None of my people ever thought of making it in a crock pot … the man’s a genius I tell you … *g*

Petrocelli,
I don’t know if you caught my #51 – response to your query at late night on performing in Toronto.
Can’t sleep. I’m back.
Hi Betsy
BigMitch @ 137
I haven’t dared go near the place. I’m hoping I’ll have time to go to Vic’s trial, though. I’ve been on his case for eleven years, and it may end up getting to be one of the craziest political trials in Alaska history, what with his libertarian views finally coming out, and having an attorney who’s so libertarian he probably jacks off to old, faded black-and-white pictures of Ayn Rand.
it is fucking sprinkling outside – i hope the blue tarp over the blue velvet chaise on the deck works – big time
Ed*ard Teller @ 138
No I didn’t Sir, thanks for calling it to my attention.
I do wish you all the best in this, and I hope we are blessed with your presence in Toronto very soon !
Tex Betsy — it’s a good thing. You want to be really really tired on Saturday so you can sleep the whole day. It works for me.
Suzanne @ 142
Around here, I consider all rain good
Suzanne @ 141
Supposed to rain down here tomorrow. I’m annoyed because I have two window sills stripped to bare wood. Of course. :-P Hope the chaise comes thru ok…
With friends like these:
“ANTIGUA, Guatemala, Sept. 18 — President Bush and Vicente Fox once portrayed themselves as diplomatic allies and close friends, but the former Mexican president takes some jabs at Bush in a new autobiography, calling him “the cockiest guy I have ever met in my life” and a “windshield cowboy” afraid to ride a powerful horse.”
Nobody likes us anymore, do they?
wb tex – i think – glad you are here but wish you were snoring.

When we staged our house in Palo Alto, the stager wanted all furniture except beds removed from bedrooms. Sometimes you just have to say no.

“stager”… what a perfect job title for shrubworld America. We “stage” our houses when we want to sell them to ’sell’ that perfect lifestyle/image… we “stage” a war, we “stage” a democracy….

If you’ve covered it well with the tarp, it should be fine Suzanne. I well remember the day we had all our furniture in the backyard because new carpet was being laid. I have been negligent about keeping up on my blog, but before I began a regular denizen here, I was pretty vocal about what I thought was happening in the future. If I was right most of the time, well, let’s just say, Bush was impeached and throwed in jail a whole bunch of times. Wasn’t he?
If I may mention the national pastime, as Yogi said, “Predicting is hard, especially about the future.”

I imagine purple furniture legs would look quite elegant. Isn’t it always the way that when you desperately wish it would rain you’re confronted with cloudless skies. The minute you put something valuable and vulnerable to water marks, the heavens open up.
Speaking of water, we’re all doing the happy dance here because this past winter has been a good one for rain, our dams rose from 24% capacity to 42%, the best we’ve had in many years.

That’s okay, fortunately it isn’t that solid. All but two of the deaths were before the nuke incident. Two of the pre-incident ones were barksdale people. And all appear to be reasonable fatality situations given the high-risk lifestyles some young military (and no so young! :)) adopt.
Okay, putting the tin foil hat back in the safe FOR NOW…
Short version of Naomi Wolf: There are ten steps that all totalitarians use to get to the destruction of freedom. First: Hype a big threat. Second: Private security forces answerable to no one. etc. We are well on the road, and the tasering of this student was a big step in her view.

Seriously, if you are on Blogspot (a google setup) and have a Google Account (gmail), then you just select an adsense blog component. they check you out for being a Progressive or a click fraudster and if you aren’t (i signed the Rethuglican loyalty oath with my mouse behind my back, so it didn’t count) you get an adsense account. then you just pick were you want em and let er rip.
you make about $0.10 a year on it. I do it just to be annoying to my accountant. to make real money at internet ads you have to host your own site and have good traffic numbers. I think this is what my boss is angling for.

It is actually quantum mechanics and is the top of the heap in human science. it also denies the belief of a lot of scientists (developed to fight the concept of a “scientific soul”) that consciousness is an “epiphenomenon” (illusion, like a TV picture).
I have more fun on the science groups and blogs pointing this out to the modern day Sadducees….and yes, I am an evil spook!

Just to clarify, does it agree with or oppose the idea of soul/consciousness ?
waving white flag, that got my eyes to glaze over just reading it, ak
BigMitch, thank you for posting that (with my “rabbit-ears” and dial-up, I would have missed it).
I agree with Naomi. In 1997 (98?) I spoke with the then-head of US Forest Law Enforcement about use of “pain compliance” [nerve crush] holds on non-violent prisoners.
He said there was no role for violent force against immobile passive protesters (the nerve crush holds were used – at that time – on people chained to objects to block logging roads). He said protesters shuold be allowed water, and law enforcement should wait it out.
[We both knew lock-downs are very physically uncomofortable.]
Fast-forward:
In August of 2005 I was in the big new natural foods store in Grants Pass, OR and saw a USFS LEO (law enforcement officer).
In 2005, forest defenders at the “Biscuit” timber sale in the Siskiyou Wilderness Area were sitting on platforms suspended from the trees they sought to protect.
[Platforms of this nature have been around for almost two decades - not new.]
What was new – and murderous – in the Biscuit was USFS LEOs’ deliberately slicing the platform support lines on one side, flipping the horizontal platforms vertical –
hundreds of feet above the ground.
The LEO – in front of Starhawk – quite proudly admitted the actions.
The protesters “deserved it – they were slowing the cut”.
Murder to let the trees fall on time – OK with the USFS.
Hell, the USFS will even do it for Big Timber – on our public National FOrest land.
Where sitting betwwen the trees is punishable by death.
If USFS LEO’s decide it.
The Executive Branch is back, baybeee!
They don’t need no stinking trials – this is America. We’re free of all that.
Fortunately, the platforms’ occupants had safety gear and were usiing it – or they would been have killed by the USFS attmpted homicides.
To protect and serve – industry.
The decline above happened over seven to eight years.
Naomi is right about the Florida electrotorture – resist now, or the future is lost.
Thanks again for posting this, BigMitch.
Petrocelli @ 278
cognitive epiphenomenality denies the existence of consciousness as an objective reality. Otherewise, “souls” are real and religion is valid. Early science (and much modern as well) can’t seem to see their way out of this trap.
bell and leggett’s inequalities, the basis of quantum mechanics, demonstrate clearly and have done so EXPERIMENTALLY time after time for decades that consciousness causes a wave to turn into a particle by measuring it. even if the wave is a billion years old. recent studies show that when we are NOT observing neutrons in a particle accelerator like CERN, they spontaneously convert back to waves and vanish. This was a peer reviewed journal article, not some nutjob site.
Makes me grind my teeth, it does…
BTW, i come down on the said of Bell and Leggett. Duh. My dad was a theologian, i know far too much about the ancient writings to fear ANY modern religion’s problems. We are so lost from where the first century revelators were there is no connection at all.
Suzanne @ 279

we find more and more evidence of advanced knowledge thousands of years ago. A brass device found as a lump of corroded brass, created at least 2500 years ago, is a perfect astrological computer. A recent formula found on an eqyptian papyrus predates the basic geometry of Euclid by at least 300 years (may be what you are remembering).
If you read the Purana Veda (and i’ll bet Petro has!) you cannot help but be convinced there was an advanced civilization here in the days of the chixilub impact, and that impact destroyed it. IF so, the people must have been reptilian derived, not mammals cause there weren’t any then. And that hearkens right back to the bizarre “children of the serpent” reference in the whole curses on adam, eve, and Teh Soipent biz in Eden. (for those textually challeneged, the actual writings say that “the woman’s seed (children) will crush the serpent in the head”, and the “serpent’s seed (plural, children) will crush the children of the woman in the heel”. And when you move that whole concept forward to the “wheat and the weeds” of the gospels (weed were bearded darnell, a poisonous wheat look alike which was mixed with seed wheat as an extortion tactic back then…and even today!) it has looked to me like we have a whole lotta jurrassic soul-refugees among us…and they are the ones fucking up by the numbers (cause they’re reptiles inside and cannot function at a fully human (mammal) level).
Whew. I gotta go to bed soon, I’m startin to get as whacky as my boss…

My friend is taking a Psychology course in a prominent Toronto University. The Prof. told her that the roots of western religions have been traced to the Greeks and their roots have been traced to India.
What I know from the Vedas is, there are more than one way Humans can evolve.
Existing in any time or environment really goes back to one’s level of consciousness, which is changeable like everything else, including our genes … this will really make your eyes glaze over, Suz … *g*

Fer cryin out loud, look up each and every death as purported in the link.
Then google up the issue at hand, and find a similar story about dead folks from Minot.
Then follow EACH AND EVERY link about dead folks.
One was from July, LONG before the incident took place.
Others, are from Barksdale (the couple, husband and wife).
Are they all part of this issue? I don’t know.
But for CRYING out loud, stop doing what I do, which is latching out on every new post and going bonkers on it.
Gimme meat, with facts, and details.
This crap posted about 6 people dead from Minot is pure horseshit.
No WONDER this nation is being flushed down the toilet.
It’s like the punk who had a rep, but STILL got into the Kerry Speech, and had permission to leave the line for a radio interview, and returned to the line, got permission from the campus thugs to do so, and then monopolized the mic and abused his privilages . . . and was told to leave but he DIDN’T!!!!
The tasered punk was NOT a victim of brutality.
He asked for it. Ok, not the taser, but he was LOOKING for publicity. His history speaks of this. And I’m a champion of street liberty’s and protests. This guy was an idjit, or a shill.

I never got inta the “zen” thing when it was blastin’ thru popular culture in the late 60’s and 70’s but I did spend some time with the thoughts of a guy named Ralph Waldo Emmerson and since I was raised a Unitarian, I had a general acceptance of things beyond my immediate experience. Just think how much richer, safer and more beautiful the world would be if the organized religion that has morphed and survived into our “time” were replaced by one of the holistic Buddisms…or jest think about what a very much better place the whole fuckin world would be without ANY of the organized brainfucks we call religion today…wouldn’t be any war, that’s a cinch.

George Will has some questions he would like to see asked in Judge Mukasey’s confirmation hearing.

I saw the report on Monday, and was very impressed with the way it reveals the whole Bush & Cheney program, how all the madness going on all over their regime fits into one huge diabolical pattern (my words).

This is a fascinating little promotional video.
Alison Krauss and Robert Plant talk about their forthcoming album of duets.
Hard to imagine an unlikelier pairing of singers, but the fragments that you get to hear in this video, and the one track that is currently available on the iTunes music store, sound reallllly good.
Around here occasionally we take a moment to notice The Shrub’s accelerating launch into the rococo. Sydney Blumenthal has noticed, too:
Bush’s Stairway to Paradise
Apparently Brush has misinterpreted someone’s promise to fly him directly to the capital of Paraguay at the moment of necessity. Blumenthal describes some of the shades that are likely to chase him up that stairway:
Blumenthal does a nice job on the role of class complacency in this debacle, too.
I must check out Naomi Klein’s book. “Baghdad Year Zero” certainly fit a lot of things I’d been thinking at the time.
burnspbesq @ 316
The Wonderful Chattanooga TN NPR Station played one of the duets, a cover of an Everly Brothers song, “Gone Gone Gone”.
I love Allison Krause, and Plant is worthy of respect. But it wasn’t to my taste…
It’s 56 and clear in Trendy Blue Ridge Ga.
I’ve been rebuilding a wooden ‘chimney’ (actually a chase for the metal flue) on a log cabin. The builder (one of the major ones in these here parts) seems to have designed all such chimneys on their cabins so that they leak. They inevitably rot and need to be replaced. Work for me, just sad that a obvious design flaw (bad flashing and poorly designed chimney) has been replicated over and over.

I just finished a small picket fence out of treated pine. When waling the Bohdi to the a bakery we walk past the president of UGA’s house. He has the wonderful old picket fence and I noticed that the top horizontal rail has a ” pyramid shaped cap” on top of it. I wonder if that is anti-rot or just decorative? Any ideas?
MR. Bill @ 318
Have you heard Dolly’s cover of “Stairway”?
burnspbesq @ 314
Here is my comment to Mr. Broder: “You have GOT to be kidding!
Newt was once interesting, but his attempt to demonize democrats and liberals is the sort of thing Joseph Gobbels would be proud of. His big ideas are as deep as a Neil Boortz rant, the libertarianism of unbid government contractors… His ego and overreaching and hypocrisies are legend. He tried to impeach Clinton while carrying on his own affair with a government employee.
When he was first elected, as a college professor from notorious party school West Georgia College, I was glad a Republican had replaced a corrupt old line democrat.
I didn’t realize Gingrich would attempt subvert democracy and attempt to marginalize most of the country.
If the Republican Party need saving, Newt is part of the reason.”
Raven, the cap on the rail is probably decorative.
And yeah , I love Dolly’s cover of “stairway”, as well as the Dolly/Linda Ronstadt/EmmyLou Harris cover of “After the Gold Rush”…
Good morning, pups. In the NYT today we have TOMC who says that if St. McCain was all that upset about the way things were going in Iraq he’s had years to speechify about it instead of [crickets] and hugging on Bush. Roger Cohen writes about the French Revolution of 2007 and how Sarkozy is smashing taboos.

Hi Millineryman!!!!
The local FOX affiliate in NY last night asked people if they thought Ahmadinejad should be allowed to place a wreath at Ground Zero when he comes to town for the UNGA.
You would not believe how many people responding tied Iran into the WTC attacks. It’s like Iraq has been completely replaced as the bogus insitgator for the attacks.
Good morning!
Good morning, MM and pups.
Good morning folks.

Pretty much sums up the whole Bush-the-Lesser era.
This, too, sums up this era. Loyalty to party. Not to our country or to our troops. Loyalty to the republican party is the mandate.

Good Morning, Firepups,
It’s clear and comfortably cool this morning in central Jersey. That helps to clear the setbacks of yesterday [Habeas, Webb amendment, representation for DC] in some perspective [just temporary, we shall overcome, keep working at it]. Not to mention personal worries [the health problems of Mr. NJP’s parents].
Mr. NJP is off to work at the offices of his consulting client, and then attend a meeting of his peace group. I have a busy morning printing out final copies of several reports to deliver this afternoon.
And, oh yeah, it’s my birthday. Mr. NJP made me a CD from one of my favorite double albums (Judy Collins, So Early in the Spring), and bought me a Robert Fagles set: his new translations of the Iliad and the Odyssey. Classics for a classic.
There’s a big pot of coffee, and morning glory muffins. Help yourselves. Be kind.
Work for peace, every day.
Happy birthday njprogressive!!!
