I have side work at a kennel. Best.job.ever. Our kennel has an airstream and I’m the one who stays overnight with the dogs in case they have bad dreams and need some reassurance.

If you are ever in Atlanta TRex, bring Addison by for doggie day care. While you visit friends, he can play with some of the nicest dogs ever.

Here’s the link:

I have one like Addison. He’s a beauty, black velvet, and a puppy through and through. And he has one lightening blue eye and he’s psychic. All I need to do is THINK about treats and he drops whatever he’s into and shows at my feet. One night I was dreaming about him, and I rolled over and opened my eyes for some reason, and there he was, standing at my bedside, looking at me, watching. I have had dogs and other animals my whole life, but never experienced this other connection thing with any of them. It’s awesome, eerie sometimes, but I swear he reads my mind, picks up on energies.

I suppose this is a somewhat pointless post, but it’s fun to have an avenue to talk about him. He came with his name, Gus, but we call him Ghost.

I think he’d love to romp with Addison. What a blessing the doggies are for us, eh?
:)

althespook @ 524

I wonder if they’ve just gotten a bit blase over the years. It’s been almost twenty years since the Soviet Union broke up. Most Air Force personnel who remember the MAD days are probably retired by now.

Yep, kids today just can’t handle their nukes. ;-)

The problem with the piece by the air force serviceman is that W80’s are never left on ACM’s in storage. They are kept in secure nuclear weapon stockpiles surrounded by fences, armed guards, dogs trained to kill, and a number of things we aren’t told about.

And the airmen DID look. They saw dummy warheads and all was fine. But the crewman at Barksdale noticed one of the stickers was loose, and pulled it. and the rest is history.

Yes, so someone had to authorize their transfer to the ACMs. I just suspect that this someone was thinking it would be a clever way to get the things from one place to another. The other thing to keep in mind is that armed guards, etc., only function to the level that folks expect of them. After this many years of relative safety, I’d be shocked if a little apathy hadn’t set in.

It also strikes me as ludicrous that this is some form of saber-rattling. If you want to rattle sabers, rattle the sabers - don’t put them on public display as you take them to the dump.

The chances that this will turn out to have been something stupid seem to vastly outweigh the chances it was something nefarious.

I was there in the 70’s. That was such a great area, wasn’t it. It had it all. I loved it there but then I moved up to Yorkville (86th & 1st).

i moved from there to 81st between 2nd and 3rd!

LOL. Such a small town for a big place. Best place to live on parade days, right?

I believe you. Have you read about Alex, the “parrot” who exhibited human level intelligence, that passed away recently. He had a bigger vocabulary than the average human, used words in context, grasped the ideas of reflection (could tell his image in a mirror wasn’t him) television, (would discuss things seen there), and even abstract things like death. On the day before he died he suddenly announced “he was going to sleep, but he’d be back and not to worry”. He died in his sleep the next day.

I have long felt the myth of animals talking isn’t exactly a myth…we just lost the ability to hear them or something.

we can hear them

it’s just that most people can’t be bothered to listen.

even the tiniest are individuals with, dare i say, personalities.

my mother saw one day when she was gardening, an ant.
it tried to pick up one of those looping caterpillars.
took one bite, froze, spat it out, then ran around in circles wiping it’s jaws on the ground.trying to get the taste out of it’s mouth.the caterpillar hightailed it out of there.

mum said she nearly fell over backward laughing.

when i was a very young ectoplasm we had a bird feeder in our backyard on a string (heavy string) from a sturdy tree branch. It was visited by many birds and then by squirrels who ate the leftovers. One day a storm came and broke the feeder, so we took it down to get another one, leaving the string in place. Later that day, before we had put up the new one, the squirrel came by for his snack. Normally he ran down the cord to the roof of the feeder and scooped up the seeds in his paws. But when he tested the string that day it was obviously not going to bear his weight. He did this several times with a very puzzled look. Then as I watched in utter amazement (i was like 12), he PULLED THE CORD UP IN HIS PAWS AND STARED AT THE FRAYED END WHERE WE HAD CUT OFF THE OLD FEEDER. he turned it around for about a minute before dropping it and scampering off.

I would have killed for a film camera at that point (LONG before videotape…)
