Wouldn’t you vote for either of these two Sesame Street characters ahead of anyone of the Republican presidential contenders?

Or for AG?

I sure would.

I’m there too.

The Russians must have been pissed off to find out it would have been such a cakewalk to hit the Pentagon.

Puhlease…don’t believe the story in it’s entirety. They say the best lies involve some truth, so you will tend to believe it all.

He really rips up the Bush admin. I wonder how many people are learning all about it for the first time by watching his show?

GordonM @ 310

ccmask @ 306

Blast from the past:

Bradford Lee Gilbert was an architect who practiced in New York City. He designed the first steel-framed curtain wall building, named “The Tower Building”, an eleven story structure which opened in 1889, which is considered the city’s first skyscraper. It had to have the steel-frame construction because on the narrow lot allowed for it, masonry supporting walls would have allowed almost no free space on the first floor.

Within a few months of the grand opening, William Norcross, mad as a hatter and bearing a dynamite bomb, entered the nearby offices of railroad and real-estate baron Russell Sage. He demanded $1.2M. Rebuffed by Sage’s secretary, he hurled the explosive killing the secretary. injured 8 other employees, but Russell was unharmed. Within a year, the office block was demolished by its owners and in 1893, the Empire Building rose on the site of the Sage office bombing.

The new tower would serve for many years as headquarters for JP Morgan’s USSteel Corp.

My paternal grandfather was a concrete engineer, and one of his buildings was the first (steel and concrete) “skyscraper” in NY - I think it was 28 stories and demolished in the 50s. Also in his credits - working on the Grand Coolie Dam, and the concrete boats that FDR commissioned.

How neat is that? I love the history of buildings in NY. Exciting times they were. Do you have any of his drawings? Be nice framed….My son is a draftsman and printed his first full sized set of plans today. I’m going to frame it for his room. It’s an electrical drawing for a triple gate system for a gated community. He does really well and he’s also going to college and I’m trying to get him to go for architecture but he’s not sure.
