The whole thing reminds me of when I used to watch wrestling as a kid. There were bad guys and good guys, and the bad guys always fought (and usually annihilated) the good guys. They kicked, punched, gouged, choked - whatever it took. And if the good guys ever took a step outside the Marquis of Queensbury rules (or whatever book governs wrestling), they were soundly taken to task.
The same scenario seems to play out in politics. The Repubs are the “play to win”, “whatever it takes” folks of Lee Atwater and Karl Rove fame, and the Dems are supposed to play the role of the good guy sheriff with no bullets in his gun.
Stuck inside a morality play, with the Memphis blues again.

The whole thing about Olson is he is win/win for the administration.

If he is confirmed, they have another ally at DOJ. If he isn’t confirmed, the President can deride the “do-nothing obstructionist congress” and give a recess appointment to Harriet Miers or John Yoo.

Win/win.

Oklahoma kiddo @ 108

Looking at Obama’s speech today in Iowa, even he thinks we’re going into Iran.

Has he said anything yet (during this campaign) which differs from things Joe Lieberman has said?

He has repeatedly said Iran is a threat. That’s not new.

Ah but Olson will get to play the grieving widower from 9/11 to full effect, doncha know…

If it came up, and it might, the questions about cell phone use on an airplane could be interesting.

How can we expect lawless people to have respect for the law?

The Bush Administration is a pack of dangerous thugs and should be impeached before they start a wider war in the Middle East.

The study did a survey to find who in America has the least respect for the Constitution and the concept of unalienable rights of the people - Olson won, so Bush will nominate him for attorney general.

james @ 71

Comparative coups:

Arlen Specter comes up with a scientifically impossible theory about a bullet that changes direction by 180 degrees in order to support the theory that Oswald was the lone gunman. He later becomes a senator from Pennsylvania.

Ancient, tired bullshit. The repetition of this crap does nothing for the credibility of the left.

It’s nothing more than American exceptionalism flipped over, superficially different, but driven by the same deluded arrogance and belief that the US is always special. You just can’t get past the fact that Mr. Magical Camelot was offed by a loser with a mail-order rifle, can you? Oh, you say, he was murdered by dark and mysterious forces because he might have gotten in the way of their nefarious plans. I don’t think. As if he couldn’t have been kept on a very short leash by anyone who knew about his extensive f*cking around and other indiscretions. American exceptionalism again — our mighty, pure leader taken from us by a dark plot. Sorry, no. He was just as bad as most of the rest of them, and if he’d lived things would have been little different.

Evolution before your eyes

Didjaever see the modern re-make of “The Time Machine”? In it is depicted the behavior of two newly-evolved species of humans: the ones that have nightmares and the others who feed on them. Their relationship reminds me of that between the felonious Rethugs and the handwringing Democraps.
