I can't stop reading Jezebel. I stopped in over there one day like two weeks ago and now I'm completely hooked.
Moe is my favorite, and here's her take on what I took approximately 20 times as many words to say in my previous post:
First Osama, then Britney, and today it was leader of our fearless effort to bring democracy and all it promises to the Middle East General David Petraeus. Hyped performances! Hoped-for comebacks! And in some cases wild shifts in hair care policy. And all it amounted to: one big steaming pile of anticlimax, natch...And today I read that thanks to important industries like fashion that give them places to sink their funds, rich people will continue "saving" the "economy," because in a market economy the "economy" denotes economic indicators that serve to obscure the larger problem that a handful of corporate lawyers, wealth managers, elite reality show contestants, plastic surgeons, Flash designers and sundry plutocrat types are the only ones really getting by without serious liver damage anymore...
Amen!

tres!
Hey, Petro!
I told them downstairs … I’m still chuckling at the photo in the Late nite post … brilliant as usual, TRex !!!
Hey, petrocelli! I have a new blog!
althespook @ 2
How are ya, AK ? How’s dad doing ?
burnspbesq @ 4
Hey Dood, how was your visit to Toronto ?
Petrocelli - please let the memory of that photo fade. My god, horrors!
diez!
TRex rocks.
Watch Harry Potter star Dan Radcliffe be an endearing doofus on Ellen’s show: http://justjared.buzznet.com/2.....fe-tongue/
Petrocelli @ 7
emergency dental visit tomorrow and then dentures. then cataract surgery in both eyes. other than that he’s fine, within the limits of being 92 with alzheimers…
Crushes on girls. heh.
althespook @ 6
I read it AK … excellent as always … I also sprinted through all the comments of the last thread … Late Nite is Da Bomb !!!
*yawns and stretches* ‘lo everyone.
Tired, but okay for the most part. I’ve got the usual worries but i’m in one piece.
Hey Petrocelli
aliasofwestgate @ 16
shofar, so are we, as Big Mitch would say.
TRex’s homeboys.
God, is it really 24 years since this came out?
Well I have an early day tomorrow. Short day, which is nice, but an early day.
See y’all tomorrow night.
TJ @ 9
The photo, and TRex’s peerless snark were perfect together … should be in the “Bloggers Hall of Fame”.
g’night Betsy, and as Suz would say — pain free sleep wishes
Petrocelli @ 8
Crazed. Yorkville during the Film Festival is not my idea of fun. And what’s up with those student parades? But I had a fantastic dinner at North 44 on Thursday night.
LoudounLib @ 22
ditto.
Petrocelli @ 21
If I see that in my dreams, it’s your fault!
Night, Betsy.
(sneaking a break from my preparations for tomorrow’s arrival of nana white gloves - taking deep breath)
oh tex, my stars, that collage of cakes and police tape - made me smile big time.
geez, i feel so, so, nekkid without my blue f and my special mod powers
burnspbesq @ 19
Clutch.
Click, cause the images are good.
Now I am going to sleep. Really.
{{{Suz!}}}
althespook @ 13
Bonne chance buddy !
((((( AK & Dad )))))
Wow, I’m watching the hearings replay on cspan2.. Abercrombie brought up Hughes oil deal with the Kurds and how that undermines in every way the Iraqi central government, BetrayUs and Bush are supposedly saying we are over there to support.
Suzanne @ 27
You just missed Betsy. She was looking for you last thread.
Suzanne @ 27
new blog, suz. converting lotsa comments from last night into documented links. I especially like the “bent spear” one.
Hi all! Hi Suz - what a pleasant surprise!
Petrocelli @ 31
Thank you. We’re holding on…
I’ve often wondered whether there is any correlation between the timing of Junya’s various crap and when The Daily Show is on vacation.
Suz, sorry I missed last night’s happenings — when I got home from work I discovered that my toobz were out of service, and I didn’t get them back until late morning
TRex - do you read Cintra Wilson? She’s my girl crush.
Gang, I’m going to bed early tonight. Thanks for coming. Help yourselves to whatever’s in the fridge. Make yourselves at home.
I’m outta here.
Good night.
*smooch*
sweet dreams TRex!
burnspbesq @ 23
Yeah, Yorkville is crazy this time of the year … too bad Sassafraz burned down, it was the most fav spot in Toronto for celebrities.
Did you get to a Timmy’s ?!! *g*
Suzanne @ 27
Hi Suzanne!!
Is it just me or does Ryan Crocker look like Phil Spector with a bad blond hair day?
TRex @ 40
I swear, I took a shower AND used deodorant.
althespook @ 34
Was that Bent Spear or Burning Spear?
I think I am going to hit the hay as well. Been lurking most of the night when I haven’t been wandering off to check on various links provided here. Trex’s Jezebel find is something else.
burnspbesq @ 46
cute.
Hey Suzanne! The Niners are driving for the winning score!
LoudounLib @ 38
My toobZ took a morning off last week. Upended the whole day.
Have. hit. the. wall…good night everyone!
althespook @ 36
That always takes more strength and shows more character, than letting go.
TRex @ 40
g’nite!
Petrocelli @ 42
Had to skip Tim’s this time — didn’t have enough insulin with me.
Dear greatest God of all imagination, if you are “as such”, please create complete peace and harmony amongst all that inhabit this earth, from which we inherently eminate.
Thanks. You know who I am.
AK -
Looks like you got the first post on the new blog up earlier than expected; looking forward to the next installment.
And while I’ve got your ear……you made some comment recently about getting booted up to management. If I’m interpreting “management” correctly as spook talk, all that’s left to be said is, “Understate much?” *g*
Waited up to see if you might be behind closed doors in DC; after Sunday’s Late Late Nite, am badly in need of some nod. Catch up with you guys in the early a.m.
LoudounLib @ 51
G’nite LL !
G’nite TRex !
Petrocelli @ 52
Actually I just hate death. Holding on lets me kick sand in the bastard’s face.
LoudounLib @ 51
Good Night!
Hi Suz!
judas priest (sniffing armpits) I show up and everyone leaves…
Petrocelli @ 1
Dang, somebody left the barn door ajar…!!! *g*
newtonusr @ 49
Remember the days of Montana, Clark, Allen, Craig … ? *sigh* …
(hands on hips) have ya’ll been behaving or am i going to get a report from The Lurking Mod?
Suzanne @ 61
That’s OK Suz, we can’t smell anything now after the load that was delivered today. But the burning of my eyes…
CTuttle @ 62
Hey buddy … I was wonderin’ where you were … *g*
Waccamaw @ 56
Actually it’s corporate management, I’m retired from spookland. I work for a private security company that does net stuff for INTERPOL and the Wah On Terrah (the real one). Can’t provide too many more details. But I used to be the head sysop and had to manage about 100 servers of various kinds scattered around the world from a virtualizer here at my daughter’s home in SA. But we made enough money this year to make me “management”, meaning I get to ride herd on four other sysops closer to the action and only step in when they screw up or get screwed.
I have a lot more free time and have been ordered to spend it blogging. My genius/whack job boss says he has “plans” for my blogs. Ghod help me.
And the DC gig hasn’t happened yet. may never. depends on whether the new guys will let us use their shiny new simulators for the iran nuking scenario. If so, i’ll do it from a secured link at the AFB here. otherewise, i have to go back to Da Basement. Bleah.
Suzanne @ 61
Pet was just exhausting today….the predictability…the boredom…absolutely….tedius…tediummmmmm…zzzzzzzzbut tomorrow, tomorrow, I luv ya tomorrow..blah, blah, blah…
Just a local heads-up - there’s a 9/11 Candlelight Commemoration & Call to Action tomorrow night at the ever-popular Immanuel Presbyterian in LA.
I got a last-minute call to play piano for Tom English, an amazing singer and writer who has some of the wittiest and most twisted anti-war songs I’ve ever heard.

it’s not you, suz, it’s Teh Momma. White gloves scare people.
Suzanne @ 64
no cannonballs … yet … heh heh heh …
Um, i warn you guys. This is probably the most cracked out thing i’ve ever seen. But it makes me go 707!!! Because you’d never see something so random on tv here. Disney adapts the Power Rangers into something entirely too serious. This? Is just serious random silly.
GoGo Sentai Boukenger (turned later into Operation Overdrive bleagh)
It’s cute, it’s attacking and OMG i go into gigglefits. This
is what they mean by ‘Fear the Cute Ones!’
I’ve been watching this year’s series but this clip never fails to make my laugh my skinny little butt off. XD
Enjoy!
Suzanne @ 64
I wasn’t even here! I don’t know where that silly string came from! Honest!
I think you smell lovely, Suz.
Yes Ma’am… You rang?
ohh hi suzanne
waving sheepishly….ok back to lurking and reading
Alicia @ 77
I’m afraid to get close enough to find out. I’ve heard rumors about Suz having Ninja Hair.

althespook @ 99
Oh. IBM mainframes!
Anyone know the time of Larry Flynt’s press conference? Should have more facts that that farce in the House today.
It’s funny about time and football. The SF Chronicle ran a series this summer about the players from the Championship years and their injuries. When we saw them play, we never imagined they would be old and ailing, none over 55.
punaise @ 104
You young.
punaise @ 104
A lot of Hall of Famers… Sad, they’re still rebuilding since Eddie Bartolo had to cede control…!!!
do-si-do @ 105
Gould and VAX for me.

I think you smell just swell!
time for me to get to the uncrossed off 1/3rd of my list… have all the goodies ready for making thai chicken with peppers and brocolli over rice, with a nice spinach salad with walnuts. my step-dad (hungarian who escaped from the russians - after being shot and captured fighting the resistance) is a vienna austria trained baker and he has made dessert which they are driving up from palm springs.
not sure if i will be able to pop back in again before friday

Oh…….I kinda liked my spook speak version. *g*
Somehow, the words “private security company” and “genius/whack job boss” coupled with “plans” for your blogs produce a bit of prickle on the back of the neck. Probably been reading too much stuff about blackwater. Hope he is one of the good guys vs. the dark side.
Suzanne @ 112
Have a wonderful visit.

I’m turning in. See y’all for the Senate at bat.

You must have never had the pleasure of a Gould. Remember mounting giant disk packs?
Waccamaw @ 117
Oh he is a VERY good guy. He tracks online serial killers, dope dealers, white slavers, and of course REAL terrorists. Can’t tell you how, but he does it. We nailed the biggest heroin dealer in the middle east early this year. Sent him to a Turkish prison. It’ll break him in for Hell.
And he hates bush, cheney, and the republicans with a passion that is holy. as soon as he has the money he’s gonna start a netroots foundation to fund blogger journalists that will blow the doors off the MSM (and that’s not the plan he has for me, the secretive little…)
althespook @ 119
Were you around during the time of the Mad Shitter?
harkening back to a benign Black Water
“Like going to hell without the entertainment of being dead.”
Good description of the last seven years.

I’m afraid to ask, PW. I’ve been around long enough, but I haven’t heard of it.
Phoenix Woman @ 125
rings a faint bell…
It’s not over in the NL East.
Like hell it’s not.
Mets and Phils each have 19 games left. If the Mets go 10-9 in their remaining games, they finish with 92 wins. In order for the Phils to get to 93 wins, they have to go 17-2 in their remaining games.
Thanks for stopping by, Phils. Drive home safely.
Hmmph, I’m fumble fingered, tonite!
Waccamaw @ 127
New fave quote. Will properly attribute.

Will Betrayus be facing any tough questioneers tomorrow or will it be like today ?
I wish TRex was still up so I could thank him for Jezebel. I’m smitten, too.
Redshift @ 139
Exactly like that. And I was at Ground Zero (staying at the Inter-Continental). No escape.
Petrocelli @ 140
You’ve got some of the Prez candies, Biden, Dodd, Obama, and Clinton… Should be interesting, I wanna see Hagel…!!!
CTuttle @ 143
Now that Hagel has opted out of everything, he can tell Teh Trooth. Should be interesting…
Hey Al….your boss doesn’t need a seriously fast reader, does he? Sounds a lot better than wheel-spinning at the bank, watching the economy careening towards the cliff….*g*

He is maxed out on employees at the moment, but i’ll put you on his list. I eat up a lot of his payroll, my granddaughter is expensive. VERY expensive.

althespook @ 124
WIZARD! I love this guy already.
Alicia @ 136
Them’s AK’s……not mine. Would kill to write a fraction as well as he.
Well, gang…..since I’m still totally awake -
Could I interest anyone in a piece of key lime pie? Fresh squeezed key limes, homemade Nabisco Famous chocolate wafer crust? Haven’t taken a head count but there should be enough to give everybody at least a sliver.
My daughter and granddaughter are too, ah unnastan where you’re coming from.
CTuttle @ 147
But they’re still Senators. They have to play Teh Game or they don’t get re-erected.
TJ @ 123
I just barely go back to those, but not with at Gould. At my first job, we had a CP/M system with a washing-machine sized drive for disk packs. When we got our first PCs, we had to find a separate circuit to plug them into, because when the disk started up, it pulled down the voltage enough to make them reboot. *g*
Waccamaw @ 148
Sounds great, but I’d better pass. I’ve already hit my weekly quota of Stuff That Diabetics Shouldn’t Eat, and it’s only Monday night. Suzanne can have my piece.
burnspbesq @ 142
Oh Boy … caught in the middle of it …

But all the King’s horses couldn’t piece together their sorry carcasses if they don’t make some noise!!!
Who is this singer? She’s a dead-ringer for my youngest daughter.
althespook @ 146
Ahem … I teach quite possibly (according to my daughters) the best meditation techniques and course …
my li’l one said to me over the summer, “My goodness Daddy, you’re smarter than Deepak Chopra !”
When I had stopped laughing, I asked her how she came to that conclusion and she said, “Mommy was trying to explain a part of his book, and it didn’t make any sense!” (She is 9)

Here’s your slice; no other takers so it’s extra large.
Petrocelli @ 158
Careful, Petro, wouldn’t want ya to develop tennis elbow…! We could pat ya on the back instead…!!! *g*
Speaking of Depak, I prefer Ram Das. His favorite saying for me is based on when he went to visit his brother, who had become schizophrenic and had been institutionalized.
His brother earnestly told Ram, “I’m really Jesus Christ!”
Ram responded happily, “I’m Jesus Christ, too!”
And his brother said, “No, you’re not! You–”
At this point Ram stopped his brother and told him, “If you say everyone is Jesus Christ, they’ll leave you alone. When you say “I’m Jesus Christ and you’re not, THAT’s when they lock you up. Oh, and don’t burn the money.” (his cult had had a bunch of very well of elderly ladies sitting around him nude burning hundred dollar bills. Their relatives were upset at this for some strange reason…)
althespook @ 161
One day I’ll buy you a spritzer and tell ya how I did it … we have some friends who work at Los Alamos
and they keep telling us to come to SA for a visit, but to find the time …
News flash: David Brooks is an ass.
His column in Tuesday’s Times must have been sponsored by the American Dental Association. It certainly has me grinding my teeth.
Principal idea: we should continue pissing away the lives of our soldiers so that the Iraquis can feel their way towards partition without stopping at genocide along the way.
Oh. Right. Of course.
Waccamaw @ 162
Yum! And with that, I’m off to feed the rabbits and go to bed (only a half hour later than I should; I’m slowly getting better.)
G’night, pups!
althespook @ 164
Great story !
I don’t know of Ram Das but his lesson is the essence of spirituality … when you see God only in yourself, you’re nuts; when you see God everywhere and in everyone, you’re enlightened !
Shorter Ram Das … put down your Beer, CT … Bush is nuts !!!

Was this Ram Das who had a book out in the 70s called “Be Here Now”?
I just couldn’t take that book. “Be here now! Just notice everthing…all at once…ah, how harmonious.”
Um, no.
I tried it. I can still feel myself getting into a panic, trying to notice everything all at once this breath that sound that color that person Ayiiieeee!
Can’t sleep. Y’all still here?
Been musing on Baba Ram Das - did you read his Be Here Now Bets?
We have to stay in Iraq to fight Al Quieda Bush claims, but if Al Quieda hates Shites for their religon and don’t like Kurds much for not being Arab.
Then that leaves us with Sunni land as a safe haven. Now that the Sunni are supposedly turning on Al Quieda doesn’t that mean mission accomplished?
But what about Iran? They will take over if we leave!
Which is perfect let the Iranians waste their army and money trying to control Iraq while we sell the Sunni’s weapons and IED’s.
But shouldn’t we protect our Sunni allies?
Allies with Saddam’s group? The guys who oppressed Iraq just how desperate are we that we are allied to those jokers! Short Answer NO!
Saudia Arabia backed Al Quieda and is still leting them pass through their border to Iraq, but they fear Iran we leave and they need us and our weapons to fight Iran. By leaving we gain a real ally rather than an untrustworthy friend.
Power fills a vacume Iran will move into Iraq we weaken Iran by selling weapons to the Saudi’s (and insist on cheaper oil) who will give them to the resistance. A guerrilla war is cheaper to fund than a regular army.
To win we must first seem to lose. Bush’s Pride is the biggest obstacle to our victory and thats why we will lose Petraeus is still thinking inside the box defined by Bush’s pride.
I am against most war on moral grounds and this war is really imoral, but I am really against STUPID WARS!
I wonder at our supposed morality as a society when I wonder if Bush were wining would the Anti War movment be as strong as it is today?
I’m here but fading fast. Last night sleep was far, far away and I was up until sometime after 4am. Tonight my goal is to say awake till the end of Colbert. That’s in 10 minutes.

Last night I actually went to sleep!
Good on ya.

In the 1970s, Russia exported oil and gas and “used this money to import food, consumer goods and machines for extracting oil and gas,” Mau said. By the early 1980s, though, oil prices had started to sink – thanks in part to conservation efforts by the United States. “One alternative for the Soviets was to decrease consumption, but the Kremlin couldn’t do that – it had been buying off all these constituencies,” Mau explained. So “it started borrowing from abroad, using the money mostly for consumption and subsidies, to maintain popularity and stability.” Oil prices and production kept falling as Gorbachev tried reforming communism, but by then it was too late.
All the Republican Presidential candidates are screaming that they are they new Regean and that Regean won the cold war.
What our candidate whomever that ends up being needs to do is challege the Regean ended the cold war talking point by explaing what really happened.
Going back to sleep. Night again.
Only a republican can keep us safe from terroists is there other big talking point. To which we reply you guys had six years so far to win in Iraq.
Taxes! Taxes! evil Democrats want to raise your taxes!
No we our stuck paying for George Bush’s war for oil with interest! The credit card bill has come due!
But we only want to tax the rich who made so much money during the Bush years while our troops waited for bulletproof vests and armoured Humvees while Walter Reed hospital for the troops turned into a flophouse. While New Orleans still waits to be rebuilt.
Oh wait Bill Clinton raised taxes early in his term and the economy was great, I’m pretty sure the rich made more money during the Clinton years than they did during the Bush years, certainly everyone else did!
TexBetsy @ 192
Get some rest tommarrow will be a long day Larry Flynt the Left’s Patron Saint of Smut is going to keep us busy.
Between Senators Craig and Vitter the family values voters many of whom are 30%ers are just not going to vote this election. Or they will vote for us! We need lots of pictures of smiling Democratic familes for our campaign literature.
If the GOP keeps Vitter to help keep their power in the Senate today then they will sacrifice the future by keeping this story alive until election time.
I know they don’t have the guts to get rid of both these jokers quickly, end the story and campaign on a sure we have problems in our party but we fix them theme.
Nope not unless Larry’s next surprise is so big it forces them to clean house now. But barring a picture of Holy Joe in a Burka with a man I don’t think they will do it.
Margot @ 178
“Be Here Now” was also a popular slogan in est — remember that? I do. Also, didn’t Aldous Huxley use it in his utopia? I understood the phrase differently. Some of us highly educated folks tend to spend a lot of time in our heads thinking about tomorrow, about yesterday, about the driver who cut us off this morning, about what we plan to do next evening, about what we’re going to say in response to the person we’re talking to– to an almost pathological extent.
When we get into that kind of head tripping, we think of anything but where we are right now, and what are we doing right now. We block out our senses because they distract us from cogitating about whatever distant thing we are trying to focus on.
I took “Be Here Now” as a call to refocus on the immediate present, and the sensations of the moment. It was advice that I needed.

Do tumbling thoughts keep you awake?
If so, while you’re up, write’em all down. That helps “complete” the thought and makes it easier to let go of. Sometimes when I get to thinking about something as I lay in bed, I have to get up and write it out, or I’ll fuss with it endlessly all night long.
Now I’m off to bed. G’nite, sleep tight…

Who would have guessed that George was choosing his words so carefully?
And while we’re all waiting for the hoopla to begin,
a great Tom Toles cartoon on yesterday’s circus.
Off to work.
Good morning all. Looks as though we might get some welcome rain tomorrow in GA.
Good morning, pups. Today in the NYT Bobo says that we shouldn’t try to unify Iraq but just subdue the violence while it partitions itself, and Bob Herbert elaborates on why legalizing prostitution is a bad idea.

The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got bagels and LOTS of cream cheese for anyone who’s in the mood. Have a grand day.
JPL @ 214
Here’s hoping for ya……..that tropical didn’t touch this part of the coast (not that I’m complaining!!!!!!) but neither did we get any rain out of it…….which is desperately needed.

Firepup Patriots and the Raven from the “boonies”:
Hot and humid here again…no rain though. Minnesota’s junior clusterfuck governor has jest called a special session for jest flood relief and no bridges. It would be wonderful watchin’ the fascist ideology go up in so much smoke and mirrors if there weren’t so many people sufferin’ because of these criminals and it’s gunna take a generation ta rebuild our country. I’m not sure we ken save any of America’s soul anyway but we have an obligation not ta steal the life and breath from the rest a the world.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, THE RIGHTS YOU SAVE ARE YOUR OWN!!
Between Hilary and her connections to the Democratic leadership and Obama who I’m sure has the entire African American caucus in the House of Representives rooting for him I think together they can stop Bush.
All they need to do is deny funding for the war. They can try and pass bills for a complete troop withdrawl which Bush will veto.
Until the GOP is sure the 70% of people who are against the war won’t change their minds.
But if they don’t do this we should make clear that voting to keep the war going will cost them.
Now then how much of our support will back us on what many voters consider is the most important issue facing America today?
I don’t think Hilary and Obama want to find out.
On the other hand the GOP really does not want to have to make a stand on supporting the war.
Good morning!
Morning
Hi, egregious.
Final score from the Women’s World Cup:
United States 2, North Korea 2.
I didn’t see it, but apparently Markos did a stunning job on Hardball last night. The transcript is here, and it’s very impressive: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/9/10/192614/298
Good Morning!
So how is everybody this morning?
burnspbesq @ 222
A very good match with the NK team playing a tight passing game and attacking every ball. Took the US team by surprise I am afraid.
Why are the Democrats waffling? Between ending the war and National Healthcare we own the two most important issues that voters care about.
All it would take is some real action while Bush is in office to motivate America red and blue states.
Playing poltics to satisfy corporate America, the military industrial complex and the healthcare industry won’t work when voters are pissed off.
Heck by not acting on these issues the Democrats risk our voters staying home.
Which is what the GOP is planning on.
Unless we motivate our base by making a big show of getting enough blue candidates in with a promise to replace Nancy and Harry.
Good morning, everybody! Let’s hope for the beginning of better things on this anniversary of the death of America as we once knew it.

Thanks so much for the linky……with dial-up, I love it when things turn up in transcript form.
If anyone’s interested, Frank Rich is supposed to be on Morning joe but it sounds like ya have to suffer thru freddie and fran townsend to get to the good stuff.

What kind of dog?
This email from Sen. Leahy this AM
Looks like he is going to require a few answers?
things come undone @ 218
They “could.” Unfortunately, too much of their financial backing comes from folks who want us to attack Iran rather than withdraw from Iraq. IMHO, both of them will ultimately vote for a funding bill that lacks firm deadlines for withdrawal.
Waccamaw @ 233
a golden, what kind of dogs do you have?
things come undone @ 218
Hillary, leadership? Against the war? You must be joking surely. She is totally beholden to the pro war big business crowd. And Obama only does what he is told by the toady from CT. Jimminy, relying on Hillary and Obama to stop the bloody war that is to laugh.
egregious @ 225
Crabby. I don’t much like commemorating thousands of deaths that might have been prevented if our government hadn’t been asleep at the f**king switch.
Good Morning. Did everyone see that Olberman finally beat BOR Friday night. KO’s been trending up, BOR trending down. Well the lines have crossed and BillO loses. This is in the 25-54 demo. In total audience, BillO is still ahead. The best part is that Joe Scarborough talked about it. It always seemed to me before that the other anchors on MSNBC didn’t promote KO enough.
After a moment of silence to honor our collective loss six years ago, I am prepared to get to work to help the living. We’ve got a lot to do, let’s get going.
I would say that compared with six years ago, I am much more conscious of the beauty and fragility of life. Perhaps I should say, conscious once again, because as a child this awareness was with me every day.
Being at fdl has changed me in ways known and unknown. What a great gift to find all of you. All the things I’m working on continue, but in the company of this immense number of friends and colleagues. We are connected by our desire to reclaim our nation from the abyss and make the future habitable by the next generation. A toast to the fdl community.
And that’s -before- coffee :)

I used ta have a Golden, but now that we’re empty nesters, the First Sargent saya no more big dogs soooooo….now we have a 14 week old Westie and he’s a stitch and plenty smart enough fer me.
I’m too old fer children so he’s growin up in a hurry. He doesn’t know from big, he thinks he’s a real dog, LOL.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE AMMUNITION, AT LEAST TGHE DOGS’LL BE WORTH SAVIN’!!
Elliott @ 236
Love those, especially the way they grin! There’s a couple on the island who have quite the most beautiful one I’ve ever seen with a personality to match.
My last good buddy, gone in January, was an Old English Sheepdog. Still trying to make a decision whether to get another but, if I did, a golden would be near the top of the wish list.
egregious @ 240
what egregious said
Egregious, Thanks for the sentiment. Christy, Jane and the rest of the FDL community has awakened a passion in us all.
Elliott @ 232
And thanks from me too. Damn it’s great to see someone from the left who is prepared for all of the standard RNC talking points.
Waccamaw @ 242
(((Waccamaw)))
I’m sorry you lost your friend
Elliott, I have an 18 pound mutt that looks like a cross between a whippet and a schnauzer. I named her Moxie after that infamous soda from Maine. My first love was a golden who we mated and she had 11 pups that we gave to family and friends. We also had another golden and he lived until he was 16. Animals definitely provide us with love and comfort.
solai @ 239
They are all treating KO and folks on the left with a lot more respect these days. Check out how Tweety treated Markos. JPL posted the link at #229.
nomolos @ 226
“Attacking every ball?” Interesting euphemism, that. Or did you not notice how dirty the North Koreans’ tackling was? Coming through with the back leg on a sliding tackle should be a yellow card every time. And on the play where Wambach was injured (note that both North Korean goals were scored while she was off the field getting stitches), I didn’t think the North Korean player had any chance of getting to the ball, and chose to simply head-butt Abby from behind. A straight red if I’m the referee.
Tweety seemed quite excited that Markos answered the questions the way he did.
JPL @ 247
puppies!
we did puppies, too! Nothing like a whelping box full of little retrievers to light up your day! I don’t think we ever got up to eleven, that’s a lot of puppies!
and as for Moxie, just this weekend I had the occasion to politely refuse one! awful stuff!
egregious @ 240
Lor’, eg -
That kind of eloquence (before coffee!) is magnificent. A click of the coffee cup to you.
Elliott @ 246
Me too.
Everyone needs to bear in mind that the war in Iraq is a “War of Aggression.” They posed no immanent threat to us. By treaty and international law, wars of aggression are crimes against humanity. And, any congressman who votes for a funding bill that lacks a firm deadline for withdrawal is sponsoring a crime against humanity. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.
Anyone remember Rudy’s state chairman in South Carolina Ravenel the guy busted with half a kilo of coke he was going to “cough” give away at a party? Although now he seems to be charged with having less than that.
http://www.thestate.com/news/story/166089.html
After the arrest Rudy replaced him with his dad who turned out to be a racist. Which makes you wonder about how Rudy can protect us from terroists when he can’t even protect us from his own staff!
But on Tweety’s show saturday Kathleen Parker said something about how South Carolina loved Rudy’s testosterone and didn’t care about his divorces or his kids not talking to him.
Hmm? Ravenel was Rudy’s statechairman. Ravenel liked to give parties with Free Coke. Kathleen Parker is famous for moralizing about Republican family values so why would she support Rudy? This is such a change in behaviour for her.
Unless maybe as a South Carolina Republican newscolumnist she went to Ravenel’s parties and snorted some…well lets call it testosterone.

good morning early birds
JPL @ 250
When Markos started to make the point that the upcoming drawdown is a logistic necessity and not a sign of success, you could hear Mathews muttering “That’s right!” in the background. He got pretty excited at that point.
TexBetsy @ 257
Still up huh? Don’t you have training at 8:30?
wigwam @ 258
didn’t Tweety even say “right answer” at one point?
Hi TexB
raven @ 259
8 AM. I have 90 minutes sleep. Will take the kid to school (rain) and either go back to sleep or go to the training. I already know there’s a make up day scheduled for staff that don’t get to this one. See how tired I am in half an hour
TexB, you’re up early. Feeling okay?
TexBetsy @ 257
Morning, Betsy.
Now I’m going to try to go back to bed for a while. No idea why I woke up at 3:00, and turning on ESPN was a grave mistake. I may be too wound up to get back to sleep. Catch y’all later.
solai @ 262
nope. back hurts. didn’t sleep. need my chiro to come back from vacation.
So sorry.
But while I am here …. a chance to

Off to get ready for work. See everyone at 9:30 (work permitting).
Enjoy Solai.
nomolos @237 and wigwam @235 I agree with your points I should have added more about how those two can stop the war, we know they can, and we need to make sure they know we will make them pay if they don’t!
PAY…PAY PAYPAYPAY!
Good Morning Firepups!
I’ve been up for a while, but had some budget calculations to finish before checking in at the ‘Lake. It’s warm and muggy here in central Jersey. It rained for a while, but it hasn’t cooled down at all. Wish we could send the rain south, where it’s needed.
There’s a big pitcher of iced coffee in the fridge, and a bowl of cut-up melon. I’m having yogurt & house-blend granola today–too hot for any baking. Help yourselves.
Work for peace, every day.
Thanks, guys.
There’s still a hole in my life that only a warm furry can fill. Really need to downsize if I get another but if it’s under 50 lbs, it just doesn’t seem quite big enough. No offense to all at the Lake with smaller dogs intended……..just a personal preference. Always get a smile when I think of Jane with *three* standards.
More cr*p on joe about Hsu and Hill; they are going to run this into the ground until hell freezes over. :-(
And thanks to Egregious at 240, who said something that we all believe, but more eloquently than any of the rest of us!

Google on the words Saban and Hillary, and I think you’ll see what the problem is. When I come to making her pay, it’s tough to compete with a multibillionaire who is the largest contributor to the Democratic party and who is quoted as saying “I’m and one-issue guy and that issue is Israel.” Unfortunately, A*P*C is not eager for the U.S. to withdraw from the middle east, and all the top democratic contenders carefully court their support.
I hate to be melancholy but it’s not only a day of remembrance of lives lost but also of the goodwill that the United States tossed aside. Why is bush still president?
Thanks Raven I wrote them down already I’ll go to the bookstore soon. I’m most interested in finding parrels between then and now although Johnson was to be fair much smarter than the chimp.
Waccamaw @ 271
It’s so hard. Our Raven was such a great little cocker and we really miss him. The Bohdi has really helped and, while he is so different, he has filled some of the void.

Late Thoughts is probably the best in terms of both a reflection and an analysis of this debacle. Phil Beilder teaches English at Alabama and he is a no-nonsense former tanker.

IMHO, it’s because the Democrats are more interested in what’s good for the Democrats than in what’s good for the country and humanity in general. I’m coming to believe that the Democratic leadership are some of the most cynical people on earth.
Moxie’s my first small dog but she thinks she’s a giant.

and now, who are we?
For the earlier dog commenters.
Here are some cute little three week old yellow lab pups for you. I think they are adorable, personally. But I’m prejudiced!
wigwam @ 274
Is he nuts Ossama is destablizing Pakistan as we speak while Bush wastes our time, army and money on Iraq.
Pakistan already has nukes and missles! Osama does not like Israel can’t he connect the dots! What is this guy an idiot or what?

We are who we always were. Messy fucked up human beings. :)

raven @ 288
Very, very cute!
Wigwam, you are correct in blaming the democratic party for not standing up for all Americans. I still believe that it’s important to vote along party lines because we have seen the disaster that the repubs have caused. Hillary’s moderate positions frighten me though but if she is the candidate, I’ll vote for her.

soo cute!

Waccamaw @ 299
It’s short for Bohdisattva, it’s his name, not a breed. He’s is a knuckle headed mutt!
Raven now the important question for history is why did our leaders make these mistakes. For today we need to start pointing out these parallels and link Iraq with Viet Nam and hammer this comparision into the media. I’m going to check out upstairs now then get some sleep good talk though bye!
Waccamaw @ 242
If you can find a breeder who isn’t using “cattle dog” lines, an Australian Shepherd might be a nice dog to look at. We had one who was smart as a whip and very cuddly with my kids. He was a rescued dog(divorce situation), but he was great. We miss him terribly but figure that we’ll never find that “human in a dog suit” situation again.
