Here’s the Sunday Talking Head line-up. Read it and see what you think:
C-Span’s Washington Journal: 7:45am – Ari Berman, The Nation, Contributing Writer; 8:30am – Newspaper Articles & Viewer Calls; 9am – Victor Cha, National Security Council, Fmr. Director for Asian Affairs (2004-07); 9:30am – Robert Reid, Associated Press, Acting Baghdad Bureau Chief.
Meet the Press (NBC): Gen. James Jones (Ret.), Chmn. of the Iraqi Security Forces Independent Assessment Commission & Charles Ramsey on their new report detailing the readiness of Iraqi Security Forces. Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE) returns from Iraq to share his views. Plus, a political roundtable with David Brody & John Harwood. [CHS notes: I don't even need to say it, do I? Jeebus...]
This Week (ABC): Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) and Sen. John Kerry (D-MA); Sam Donaldson, Cokie Roberts and George Will; and Alan Alda.
Face the Nation (CBS): Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-MA) and Gen. Brent Scowcroft (Ret.), former National Security Advisor.
CNN’s Late Edition: Gen. George Joulwan, U.S. Army (Ret.); Fmr. NATO Supreme Commander; Mowaffak al-Rubaie, Iraqi National Security Adviser; Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pennsylvania; Ranking Member, Judiciary Cmte.; Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-California; Foreign Relations Cmte.; Mike Huckabee, Republican Presidential Candidate; Fmr. Arkansas Gov.; Frances Townsend, White House Homeland Security Adviser; Ed Henry, CNN White House Correspondent; Jessica Yellin, CNN Congressional Correspondent; Lisa Goddard, CNN Radio Congressional Correspondent.
Fox News Sunday: Fran Townsend.
Is it me, or is little Franny Townsend putting her face out publicly a helluva lot more than usual today? Anyone sensing a PR initiative that may have more to do with an AG nomination sneak-in than it does a reassuring face on Homeland Security? (What?!? Chertoff doesn’t scream “reassuring” to you, either?)
Today’s project: refilling the birdfeeders before there is an enormous, squawking mutiny. I think the cardinal family is looking angry this morning. Today’s photo of some chattering house finches seemed awfully appropriate for the talking head line-up today. Thanks to Julie’s Magic Light Show for the great pix.

Good mourning
zed?
Couldn’t help myself. I really admire that man.
Good morning, Christy.
Hey Christy, good morning!
Can we still dance? Good morning to all. Sorry I missed it.
thanks for the warning christy, i’m gonna leave my tv off this morning. streaming c-span is good enough for me – ari berman is smart writer.
Seems like there are more Democrats or at least fewer rabid rights these days.
Has something shifted?
What a great surprise, I bought a whole bunch of tomatoes yesterday at the farm market and cooked them down in the crock pot. I never did it before and now I have this thick luscious sauce. They were yellow tomatoes and when the get pulled out of the freezer in Feb it will be such a treat.
well- lets see if the dems have a single ball between the whole bunch. Little franny for ag? The bitches name should not get out of comittee! Just like every single proposal or name or anything the goopers put up!
Who wants to bet?
Millineryman at 10 — Now that is a great idea. Will have to try that…
Wonder if anyone will be discussing this today. Petreaus tells soldier the surge has not worked.
The surge: I think they will say that militarily it did work, but that those pesky Iraqis still can’t get their act together [ = sign over their national oil to the US and UK ]
So we did everything right. It’s that other guy’s fault, yea, that’s the ticket.
selise @ 8
Berman has done a really good job……doesn’t seem to have attracted as many rabid reich wing responders as usual.
––––––––––––
And since Millineryman mentioned the “food” word, anybody out there got a recipe for pesto that freezes well they can personally vouch for?
I’m learning that one of the best things about blogs is that I have absolutely no need whatsoever to catch any of the morning shows on Sunday. If anything actually -relevant- happens on one of them, I find out about them here :)
Here’s is the guest list for Ian Masters’ program from KPFK, 11am-1pm PDT — details
11am-noon: Drew Westen, Michael Scheuer, David Enders
noon-1pm: Charlie Savage, Rajiv Chandrasekaran
Millineryman @ 10
yum… i’ve never trying freezing veggies, but making a tomatoe sauce sounds like a great idea. tomatoes now are soo tasty. i made a pot of ratatouille yesterday all with veggies from my friday’s CSA share (small local organic farm). yummm…
you’ve inspired me… i’m going to ask for extra tomatoes this week from the CSA and make some tomato sauce to freeze as you did. what a great idea!
Christy Hardin Smith @ 12
And the best part, it didn’t heat up the kitchen.
Good morning Pups…
As usual, another GOP candidate has lost his mind:
http://newswithtude.blogspot.c…..ey-to.html
*rolling eyes*
Bush Knew. Can we impeach now?
Regarding the AG nomination: what I’d really like to see is for the Democrats offer up the names of two or people that they think would be great people to fill the slot and offer an easy confirmation process for them. On the top of that list should be David Iglesias.
If anyone objects, they should accuse the person of being anti-hispanic.
egregious @ 14
From a military perspective Iraq is a series of successful operations.
As was Vietnam, to a large extent.
This, in no way, is a reflection of successful US policy implementation.
Congress needs to evaluate the latter, not the former.
Mack I agree with you.
selise_The sauce freezes well, and now you’ve inspired me to make some ratatouille. I haven’t made any for a very long time.
noonan @ 13
That’s a very interesting link. Thanks.
It seems to me that to the press Petraeus is presenting a “bug” as a “feature.” The fact of the matter is that there aren’t any troops to sustain the surge as currently deployed troops are rotated back to the U.S. Also, Petraeus has admitted to the troops that the success of the surge has been nil. But, to the press, he speaks like the Oracle at Delphi:
That’s what a Princeton education does for you.
Waccamaw @ 15
for the last few weeks, i’ve been getting a big bunch of basil in my CSA share… i’ve been making pesto with it… can’t vouch for how it will taste after months in the freezer, but i’ve tried it after a couple weeks and it still tastes great.
1 bunch of basil – about 2 cups of leaves?
the smallest about of olive oil required – about 1/3 cup?
2-4 cloves garlic
1/3 – 1/2 cups chopped walnuts
i can’t eat parmesan cheese, but you might want to add 1/3 cups of grated cheese since it’s in all the recipes i’ve seen
keep the olive oil to the side, and put everything else in the blender. blend at slow speed adding the oil until there is enough so that everything blends well. frequently push the leaves down to get the blending going…
sorry that’s not a real recipe… but it works for me and is yummy.
Julie Waters @ 16
Fixed it for ya. *g*
Seriously, tho’, I’m beginning to wonder if there’ll ever be anything “relevant” on the idjit box again in my lifetime…..KO being the exception.
Thanks, selise – will give that a try.
mornin all!
yesterday I wasn’t allowed to bitch at the lake and my head imploded
I played lots of tennis though so it worked out for the better I think
anyway, since the surge the president has been making more and more rediculous comparisons between Iraq and al qaeda
MAN THAT PISSED ME PF
and the democrats are actually ceeding the point
that pisses me off and they need to behave much differant then they are whenever al qaeda and Iraq is brought up in the same comparison
they need to laugh at whoever brings it up as if they are a moron and they need to brutally punish them for acting like a bush puppet
they need to do like so;
“so, you are actually trying to associate al qaeda with Iraq…what kind of marionette are you?
the problem in Iraq are the Iraqi’s, the problem is not al qaeda, if you want al qaeda out of Iraq you should have never allowed THE PRESIDENT to bring them there, and every one of HIS OWN agencies tells us that is what he has done”
BING
then hit them with THIS;
“you are some kind of marionette repeating bush’s fanstasy as if he has any touch with reality”
POW, BAM, HOLY GREAT ANSWER BATMAN
Millineryman @ 25
the second best thing about my CSA shares (after the yummy tastes) is that i get a lot of different vegtables (about 20 varieties each week) and then have to figure out what to do with them… so i end up making (and trying) things i wouldn’t otherwise. earlier this summer i learned to love garlic scapes, and this week i’m trying to figure out what to do with my soybeans.
Redd: Anyone sensing a PR initiative that may have more to do with an AG nomination sneak-in than it does a reassuring face on Homeland Security?
Relax– I’m sure the Democrats in the Senate won’t let a Ted Olson nomination get through. They’re sure to stand up to Bush on this one. Thank goodness we won control of the Senate on ‘06!
Speaking of the AG nomination
Bush Expected to Nominate Attornery General Next Week
From yesterday’s Washington Post. Looks Like Theodore Olsen, not the chipmunk Theodore, is being given serious consideration. Bold mine.
And this, and again the bold mine.
The Dems need to take a stand here and prove to the country that they are the party of justice and the rule of law.

Interesting article on Barney Frank in today’s Globe:
http://www.boston.com/news/loc…..lds_power/
Here’s an example of what I think everyone should be doing every chance they get. Some think that being in the streets is a waste of time, but a reporter for our local community radio station, WMNF, was inside the event and said that the Rethugs inside were surprised and very upset at the protest. For me, that alone makes it worthwhile. A lot of support from the cars passing by. And for a little shameless self promotion, that’s me in the middle in the top photo.
http://stpeteforpeace.org/giuliani.protest.html
There were more Ron Paul supporters than anti-war protesters, which made for some interesting exchanges, to say the least.
SouthernDragon, thanks for that report and photo of you! “Iraq is Arabic for Vietnam”—good one. Sounds like you guys made them squirm. Liked the sign from adulterers4Rudy.com about his family values. More like this please.
selise_When I belonged to a co_op that was always a fun surprise getting vegetables which I had never tried before on my own. As far as soybeans go, I’ve only had them steamed, and they were very tasty.
SouthernDragon @ 36
Good on you, SD! And great pix!
Care to expand on the “interesting exchanges”?

Julie: I am with you on that. I feel guilty but I haven’t watched them for over a year. I hate to leave the tough things for everyone else but I honestly cannot do it. MSM on a Sunday is like a big ole recycling plant that doesn’t bother crunching the cans that come in.
So, we’re sitting around here at Chez Smith this morning, listening to a CD of Disney movie music and building a tower of legos with The Peanut. I have a mini-Dachshund snuggled up on my lap as I type this and a cuppa hot coffee.

Edamame.
Good morning Christy and all you fine pups.
I did see something of interest, yesterday on CNBC. Timmeh had a pair of guests sitting at the table with him on his weekly interview program. The interplay between them, the guests anyway, was fascinating to watch, and perhaps explains a lot about some of the “stuff” going on within the beltway.
If it’s repeated, I suggest you pour yourself a tall, strong one of whatever fortifies you, and watch closely. O.M.G.!
Oh, the guests? Mrs Gr**nspan and, er, um, Mr. Dayvid Gr*gory.
Christy Hardin Smith @ 42
Yeah, and the Mountaineers won!
Maybe Fox has Fran on because she is getting a WH Nomination this week for AG. I meant to say I was agreeing with Christy on that.
Riesz — Go Mountaineers! :) The combo of Steve Slaton and Pat White is such a joy for this football fan to watch, I have to say. The fact that they have been best friends ever since they started playing, that they still room together, and are both — by every account I’ve heard — just really great kids makes it all the more fun for me. Good on them.
I have lots of basil in my garden too. What I’ve been doing for the last few years is blending the basil with olive oil and then freezing it in small yogurt containers. When I want to make pesto, I thaw the container and add garlic, pine nuts (or other type nut), parmesan, salt and pepper. It has kept for an entire year with excellent taste.
I have a freezer full of tomatoes. I removed the skins, seeds and chunked them. This fall and winter I’ll can tomato sauce and salsa when the days are cooler and I’m not slaving in the garden. Also dried bunches of them. Wish I could teleport them to all you FDL’rs without gardens or farmers markets.

This is hilarious. The best the Republican party has? Keep it coming guys.
Absolutely poisonous Greg Steph show with Cokie Roberts and Co. saying that (1) John Edwards is the John McKie(?), Danish(?) has nothing to lose(?) and his biggest position is that noone will elect a woman or a black man(?!?!). (2) saying Osama Bin Laden says the same thing democrats are saying or something along that lines (3) Cokie Roberts mumbled something about Moveon hurting Democrats. “Absolutely disgusting ad,” she said.
I can’t wait to see the transcript. Cokie Roberts is absolutely disgusting.
One decent thing on this morning — actually on CBS’ Sunday Morning — their lead story is on Lawrence Wright, the author of The Looming Tower.
It’s the best book I’ve read on the forming of Al Qaeda.
He’s now produced a play based on the book. It appeared off-Broadway and is now coming to DC. As he says, one thing people who see the play will learn is what has happened to our country since 9-11.
Gift tickets to our Congress-critters, perhaps?
Story should be available on CBS’ website.

Don’t laugh at Frederick of Hollywood. Remember the last time they elected a senile movie star? He single-handedly won the cold war!
Plus it would be the first time we had a hott first lady!
Great picture by the way, forgot to say since I am all roiled up by Cokie Roberts *hands shaking*. I was really lucky to see a hummingbird the other day on a buddleia bush. I am not good at spotting those.
Well, I regret to report that Bill Kristol’s head did not explode this morning.

did he try to hide the smile he always has when he’s lying?
it’s really incredible, that little smile is the same smile I use when I’m saying something that’s a joke but they won’t get it till later
here’s an example;
I play p*ker and an ace high straight is called a “broadway”
so whenever there are new players and someone says
“I have a broadway”
I ask
“what’s a broadway”
everyone answers “ace high straight” to which I respond;
“140 pounds?”…and I give that little smile that crstol gives when he knows he’s pulling one over on you and you won’t realize it till later
Christy Hardin Smith @ 42

Thanks for the support.
A little history. In October 2002 the local Quakers started a small corner protest when the war drums began to beat. I heard about it on WMNF and decided it would be worthwhile. A couple of months later St Pete For Peace was formed from the folks at those protests. We’ve been at it ever since, never thinking that five years later we’d be doing the same thing. We’ve been at one venue, BayWalk, since early 2003 on Saturday nights. BayWalk is owned by Rethug super fundraiser Mel Sembler. It got quite rowdy real quick and the Quakers went back to the original site because they didn’t like the confrontations that arose with the drunks from the two bars at BayWalk. They were primarily older men and women and I can’t blame them for not wanting to put themselves through that.
Fast forward to Rudy the Studly in St Petersburg. We knew that there were going to be Ron Paul supporters there, but never thought there would be four times as many of them as there were of us. Rev Bruce Wright, leader of the homeless coalition here, became upset that there were two Ron Paul people holding up signs that said “Fences make good neighbors” and “No sanctuary cities.” He got on his bullhorn and started condemning the obvious racism. That really got people fired up. The Paul supporters said they weren’t part of their group but you had to be three days dead or blind not to see what was going on. One young Paul supporter approached me (my cammies make me a magnet for these people, but it’s always polite and respectful) and wanted to discuss what common ground we held. The problem was, every time I opened my mouth he did that Rethug thing by not letting me speak by overtalking me with the usual red herrings. He did not want to hear that NAFTA was one the primary causes of the immigration situation. Did not want to hear that free trade is not fair trade. Etc, etc. Definitely did not want to hear any progressive ideas. In some respects I think Libertarians are more reich wing than the Rethugs. There was a lot of shouting between the groups, not from anger but from the fact that we were in one spot and most of the Paul supporters were across the street. The top photo was taken from right in front of the Paul people. There was one Paul supporter with a bullhorn who was standing on the grass next to the curb and I had walked up the sidewalk and was standing behind him. He obviously didn’t know I was there because when I started voicing opposing views in his ear he finally turned around, his eyes went wide and he scooted across the street to the main group of Paul supporters. Pretty funny. They didn’t have any ideas, just buzz words and the talking points we’ve all heard ad nauseum. The point is to show these folks that we’re here and we will continue to do that.
I’m all for writing letters, making calls, etc but I firmly believe we must add crowds of angry voices outside congressclowns’ homes and offices. I’ve been out there for five years and I’m gonna be out there for five more, if that’s what it takes.

Where have you seen this before?
Imagine you’re at Der Rump-and-Steal-Scheme Conservative candidate debate. Let’s say in…ahmmm…1930’s Germany. The candidates are gunning back Schnapps while prancing around the campfire composed of burning books. And here’s what they’re saying:
-Mitt Romney, while wistfully admitting he never was a soldier, fondly reminisces about all the “great times” he had in Der Junya Youth.
-Tom Tancredo brags about his days running the streets with the Brown Shirts. Brandishing his truncheon, he vows that “no foreigners would ever slip across his borders.”
-John McCain speaks with tearful pride about serving in the Great War with Der Corporal. Captured and taken prisoner by Limeys, he always refused their meals of rare roast beef. Insisted on dining on gruel, “the waterier, the better.”
-Rudy Giuliani, “Il Ducke”, pounds the lecturn, folds his arms, and forcefully insists that “the subways always ran on time when I was in charge”.
-Duncan Hunter insists that “a pre-emptive attack against somebody, anybody, before they attack us” is just what this country needs.
-Fred Thompson, startled from a doze, fixes his false teeth, smiles and in a gravelly voice says he’s “jest a good ol’ country boy and rock farmer from Southern Bavaria.”
And they said that if you don’t learn from history, you’re doomed to repeat it. Mulligans, arrrrrghhhh!
Every time I see McCain on the talk shows I always think “Maybe he’s going to bite that jawbreaker!”, but then I catch myself– if he’s gonna bite it he’ll do it on one of the late nite comedy shows.
Riesz Fischer @ 58

SouthernDragon,
I hear what you’re saying but draw the line at showing up at someone’s home to protest. People deserve their privacy and personal lives. How would we feel if one of our own was so targeted? Let’s not do this.
Gen. James Jones on MTP:
“The notion that we’re not going to be there (Iraq) forever flies in the face of what we see on the ground.”
message for General Jones – “Sir, there’s a phone call for you on Line 1. Guy’s name is Cheney – something about messaging…”
Timmeh’s guest looks like a schoolboy forced to recite a Walt Whitman poem, with his head down, talking about how soon the Iraqi police are going to be “ready” and the army to protect the borders against “awful” Syria and Iran.
I wonder how many refugees “awful Syria and Iran have had to take in.

Ot, but from yesterday morning’s Pull Up A Chair:
the bumpersticker to go with the picture
The new Bin Laden tape is disappointing, and I prefer the younger, edgy, grey beard classic Bin Laden. The new Bin Laden does not seem to hate our freedoms and does not threaten way of life. Rather, it is like a lefty blog, analyzing Noam Chomsky, the Mortgage crisis, Hollywood, American Indians, books Bin Laden reads, ineffective Democrats and Breznhev.
But, this video appears to be a phony, computer generated piece of disinformation. Perhaps, this bright shiny reality is propaganda catapulted by one of America’s greatest director’s, KKKarl Rove.

As far as Cokie goes, I’m surprised to see that anyone’s paying any attention to her at all. What a piece of work.
Frank33 @ 73
Hmm Someone cobbled together a collage, because as Cokie Roberts says: a bin laden tape helps the Republikans. Even though earlier, perhaps in the debate, they discussed how various candidates–Thompson, Romney– don’t seem to find Osama all that threatening.
He looks like he’s going through the motions.
It looks like he’s barely animated. Same dull, flat, monotone delivery as presented to Congress last week.

Soybeans!
Are they green or dried? If green, still in the pods?
Whatever type you have, they must be cooked before eaten. Cannot be digested unless they are. Cooking green in the pod is easy: zap in boiling water a couple minutes, rinse & chill. Then use or freeze just in the pod (ziploc-type bag is good) for later if you wish.
The shelled green beans substitute really well for anything you’d use shelled young limas or green peas in (succotash, soups, stews, stir-fry, etc.) and taste better than limas (never get starchy as limas can, but also are never as sweet as peas can be; almost immune to overcooking).
Edamame’s pretty good, but very salty the way the Japanese make them. We like them dipped in a teriyaki-flavor dipping sauce instead of all the salt. Dip the pod, then squeeze out & eat only the seeds. Fun finger food!
Mature, dried soybeans can be used as baked beans, soaked overnight & cooked forever. Also, you could really go crazy and end up with tofu after a rawther l-o-n-g process. Easier to buy the tofu, heh.
We often grow them in our veggie garden. (n.e. Ohio) If you try that, make sure to get seed from an organic supplier for home-gardening, so-as to avoid Monsanto’s genetic-engineering “marvels”.
- there. officially more-than-you-wanted-to-know. ;->
Frank33 @ 73
democrats need to referance this and say things like;
“isn’t it remarkable some kind of bin laden referance always shows up whenever it looks most convenient for the president”
follow that with;
“isn’t it a stunning coincidence bin laden was allowed to escape at tora bora”
they really have to start treating the president with the disdain his actions have shown to this country
Just stopping by to say Christy! Jane! Fitz! Peanut! Firepups!

Bear in mind that Bin Laden has been held at a CIA Black Site since they captured him in 2002. I guess the tactic of withholding dialysis until he makes propaganda videos for release at opportune moments is taking its toll. The dye job is a nice touch, though.
Well, it’s no more incredible than yellowcake from Niger, or Mohammed Atta in Prague.
Biden just said on Pumpkinhead that Be-Traeus was honorable…YUCK!

We don’t, and won’t, target homes as a general rule but I can’t help but think about the thousands of families whose personal lives have been devastated by our elected officials. If Congress has no qualms about killing our children I have no qualms about disturbing their privacy. The troops are in harm’s way 24/7. After an hour or so we’ll go away. The families of Pat Tillman and thousands of others will have no peace. Ever. If “one of our own” promotes or supports this nightmare, I’ll be there too.
Biden won’t cut off funding
Biden on MTP. Will not vote to end funding. Saying lots of sensible but will NOT vote to end funding.

Yeah I caught part where Biden was saying in full drama tones, that these “vehicles” would “save kid’s lives.” We can’t cut off supplmental funding. We don’t have the votes. Vietnam. President’s war and so on . . .
At first I thought he was talking about saving Iraqi kid’s lives. No, he’s talking about troops of course.

i don’t think a nonviolent protest outside someone’s home is always out of bounds.

Catch 22; If there are soldiers in Iraq we must continue funding; If there’s funding, we’ll keep soldiers in Iraq.

Democrats are treating extraordinary events as if it is business as usual.
Bush, the Republicans, the media, and Petraeus have been running a propaganda offensive on the “surge” for more than a month and during this whole time the Democrats have been quite literally on vacation. Even now that they are back in town, they remain largely silent, disorganized, or like Biden sending mixed messages: the “surge” has failed but Petraeus the chief executor of the “surge” is a great guy.
Waccamaw @ 104
The headline made me laugh out loud, I thought that was your drift.
Biden also said that Petraeus is not cooking the books.
Waccamaw @ 81
Thanks. BayWalk is an upscale mall thingy in downtown St Petersburg. It has a multi-screen movie complex, two or three bars, and numerous upscale shops. Mel Sembler, head of Sembler Co, is a leading builder of malls. BayWalk is the jewel in his hometown. Right after we started our Sat nite vigils BayWalk tried to prevent African-American youth from coming to BayWalk. The African-American community started a boycott led by Uhuru, a local group. BayWalk backed down after two or three weeks. Then Craig Sher, president of Sembler, went to the chief of police, Chuck Harmon, to get him to do something about the anti-war protesters. Harmon was happy to oblige. The police erected barricades along the sidewalk in front of BayWalk to contain the protesters. At the time we were getting about 50 people on a good night. After the barricades went up the number went to over 300 every Sat nite. The city council finally told the police to take down the barricades because they had done nothing but increase the tension and number of people showing up each week. We’re down to the last Sat of the month but at the Rudy rally we talked about ramping the vigils back up, seeing as how nothing has been accomplished by Congress.

WTF?
is Biden part of the Betrayus propaganda festival?
Hi all you Sunday morning perusers– I saw this yesterday and wondered if it was “anything” that might fit in with other coming appts. or nominations.
“The President intends to nominate Harvey E. Johnson, Jr., of Virginia, to be Deputy Administrator and Chief Operating Officer of the Federal Emergency Management Agency at the Department of Homeland Security. Vice Admiral Johnson currently serves as Deputy Director and Chief Operating Officer of the Federal Emergency Management Agency of Department of Homeland Security.” http://www.whitehouse.gov/news…..07-10.html
And, can you imagine spending 4 years looking at Fred as president? (saw on the reference to smoking above) eeeeekkk! It does make me wonder if his health is good enough– I have privately wondered if his health reports might have been one thing keeping him from entering the Prez. race.
perris @ 66
OMG, I forgot about that!
Maybe the defense department knows how to make remote-controlled mannequins!
What about Frederick of Hollywood? Is he real or is he memorex?
I’m not sure what Brody was driving at, but he seems to get excited that we’re going to see a lot of “testosterone” in the Repug debates because of Osama. Testosterone = good on war on terra?

when this video is exposed in main stream media it will be aparent any further bringing out of bin laden will be counter productive
therefore I think we can expect bin laden to be killed…
his usefullness will have run it’s course and they will play the final ace whether or not the man is already dead
if he is not dead then he has obviously allowed the use of his image and done nothing abuot it so he will allow the president to claim he’s dead and he will live the rest of his life in the comfort of luxery as a new man
if he is already dead then they obviously won’t be able to find the remains or they will find some hair they’ve saved for just this discovery
they’s uncover him in some kind of bombing rubble that they just concluded
so that’s what will happen the next time the president needs to get some of his base back on his side
There is a good article up at the NYT on the “surge” that is more reality based than the paper’s more usual pro-war coverage.
Assessing the ‘Surge’
At Street Level, Unmet Goals of Troop Buildup

Biden summary: We can’t win militarily. We need a political solution. The only political solution is to divide Iraq. BUT, as long as we have soldiers there, we must continue to fund them.
Further, the General is an honorable man who will testify honestly and who has already conceded that things aren’t good in Iraq.
Bin Laden is dead but when the time is right, he will become BushCo’s Oswald.
Meant to say — virtual Oswald.
Ooh sign up for emails. “If it’s Sunday, it’s meet the Press,” says Pumpkinhead.

It should be added that Mel Sembler is an all-around evil person. (Not to mention, a friend of Joe Liarman’s.)
I’ve personally seen many Muslim men wear gold rings and watches. One guy I worked with wore a large, beaten gold bracelet.
That being said, maybe OBL’s ring is silver, platinum, etc. We have no way of knowing. Hell, it might even be a signal of some sort.
ifthethunderdontgetya @ 124
So evil he stinks of sulphur.

Yep, that was the intended response. Guess I just misunderstood your IMAO – maybe something different from defs in Urban Dictionary. That’s the downside of the internets…..no facial/voice interface.

Boy, howdy!!!!!! Sounds like there’s a lot about BayWalk to protest; keep on plugging, darlin’.
Fresh thread, up and running…

Newspeople talk in newsspeak. In this language, John McCain is always a “maverick”, John Warner always supports the troops, John Edwards is always “boyish”, Hillary is always “more experienced”, Rudi is always “something 9/11″. You could go on and on. I look at it not so much as newsspeak but nonthink, but that’s just me.
Hugh @ 129
Time to deconstruct.
Waccamaw @ 127
OH! that was a typo on my part, I meant
LMAO!
Seems that the facts about the surge are pretty clear. Security has improved in Baghdad- and the surge probably was at least partly responsible..Things are worse in many other areas..
Anbar is better- but not because of the surge.
US troop deaths are up>
No one knows about Iraqi deaths
There is about zero political progress.
There will be lots of arguing about the details but that seems to be the main conclusion.
The surge CANNOT be sustained past March- no matter what- so there is no debate possible about that either.
As long as it is going on- it gives Bush something to point to. After March- he will lose his “Ace in the hole” but he will have gained 15 months with it…
If you evaluate the “surge” in terms of it’s TRUE purpose, to buy time, it was a GREAT success.

Might be sensitive topic. Seriously, I suspect his operation to remove melanoma from left side of his face a few yrs ago altered his jawline some. Sure looks like it.
No. I do not want him as prez., but…
Well, it certainly puts the lie to the utterly-psychotic misguided notion that c-span in general and WJ in particular are non-partisan and above the fray.
What c-span’s become is a quasi public-access version of al bushira paid for by you-the cable subscribers who make it possible for Brian Lamb’s legion of loons to host the likes of bill kristol, the closest available Kagan or whatever neocon nitwit du jour from the aei/heritage/hudson coalition of the clueless they bump into in the hall when they open up for business.
Even the sainted Brian Lamb – once you get past his affable demeanor – has devolved to the point where it’s a lock that “If it’s Friday, it’s Fascist.”
Every day in every way it’s another edition of GOOD MORNING, NEOCON!!
First of all, in a sea of schmucks who can’t go 30 seconds without citing the washington times, weekly standard wsj-editorial and nro, in Peter Slen, or whateverthefook his name is, you’ve got the most blatantly-biased, shrub-shilling host WJ has to offer.
It’s not that his thumb is on the scale in favor of the gops, it’s that his left thumb is the only part of his body not on the scale in favor of the gops.
As for the rest of the bunch, don’t get me started.
Hey, reality check, pal.
I’m as disappointed with the Dems and their caving to Bush as anybody. That doesn’t change the fact that the biggest problem with Congress is that there’s still too many damned gops in it.
If the Dems don’t have the numbers to override a veto, they don’t have the numbers to override shrub’s veto. Why does that keep eluding people?
Gravity didn’t disappear with Mark Foley.
The laws of arithmetic didn’t change when the Dems finally ended the gops control of Congress. They still don’t have the votes and until they get them, all they can do is limit the damage shrub can do before he’s gone to the Hague and the hangman with the rest of the scumbags responsible for this nightmare.
John Warner, Susan Collins and the rest of the gops who don’t continue to sig heil smartly every time the nitwit in chief forgets where the hell he is, who the hell he’s talking to or what day it is always talk tough, but when the chips are down, they still vote with shrub.
They need to have their feet held to the fire. They need to be replaced and challenged by someone other than the club for growth clowns who don’t think they’re conservative enough.
The blood of this Fiasco is on the hands of the nitwits for Nader who made it possible for little jebbie and the Supremes to steal it for them in the first place.
There’s not enough difference between the Dems and the Gops to suit me either. Nevertheless, there is a difference.
Dems don’t gut the environmental regs that make this week’s coal mining collapse possible if not probable.
Dems don’t put the likes of John Roberts or Alito on the Supremes to continue to gut the environment or rule against labor and civil liberties.
If the Dems don’t retake Congress, Pat Leahy is still held hostage by Arlen Specter’s refusal to put Gonzo or anyone else under oath, Ted Stevens is still fleecing the Treasury and Larry Craig would be on tour hosting NRA and Mining Industry Fund Raisers in an airport Men’s Room near you.
egregious @ 37
Hilarious!
solai @ 101
It’s time for Dems to vote against any funding any time-lines any more time.
If Repubs vote for it they buy a share of that lovely condo in farawayistan with the rights to go visit there on a hot day with their good buddy George W. Bush.
