so, pups, i want ya’ll to be using your company behavior while i’m gone - The Lurking Mod will be watching over ya while i am gone and i don’t wanna hear a bad report when i get back.
I don’t think we’ve ever had five zedhunters before.
Somebody mentioned the other day that perhaps we should pay $10.00 to FDL for the Zed. I think that’s a good idea, so long as there’s no real enforcement. Just a handshake type thing, and the player would have to write ZED.

Good journeys, Suzanne. I hope you have a great trip and I promise not to poke the trolls.
Well, I promise to try real hard not to poke them, anyway.
But Countdown isn’t even listed in the network’s schedule for tonite. Can’t the Ministry of Truth be happy with all the other hours and all the other networks?
Keith will be doing regular appearances on weekend sports, Sunday night football kinda thang, but Countdown was a one time deal. It did well, so it may come back at some point.
TSF — he promoted it on his show Friday night. Might just be a time-zone thing.
When I first moved to Alaska in 1976, the Sunday football game on TV was the Monday night game from the week before. They flew the video tape up here. Same way, they flew the 11:00 news from Seattle up to play the next day at 6:00 pm. There would be a little scrawl under it which said, “Not current in this time zone.” To old-timers here (sour-doughs, not cheechakos) the expression, “not current in this time zone” is a way of saying, we don’t get your new-fangled ways. Of course, with the invention of satellites, etc., those days are mostly gone.

Suzanne,
Spent three weeks this summer with old mum and dad and also in-laws. All in 80’s and various dimensions of moving (literally) & memory loss. So hard, and sad, and lots of tears.
OT: A friend just sent me a link to a very good Kevin Drum article, called “Chaos Hawks.” But, as you read it, bear in mind the old saying from the State Department: “In chaos, there’s opportunity.”
Back from a music professor party. You know you’ve been to a music prof party when, after driving over 40 miles home from it, it isn’t even 9:00 p.m. yet. It was fun, though - welcoming the new classical guitar prof who is also a lutenist, which should spice up the baroque and renaissance performances around here.
On a quest to gather photos of Ted Stevens traveling around the state with a young woman,. his mistress, back before his wife died in a plane crash. He just blamed the plane crash on Mike Gravel - again - and it is time to call BS on his posturing.
We can’t help you with that, but is there anything else? We late late nighters are a rowdy bunch…Ed*ard Teller @ 61

ET, if you give me cognitive whiplash I’m gonna sue your musical butt. MOST people’s minds do NOT jump effortlessly from “baroque lutenist” to “getting pix of corrupt pol flying around state with mistress”. I’m just sayin…(hunts behind boathouse for brain bleach…)
Eureka, can you see that the DeeCee Democrats get ahold of that poll, please? I do not understand why they are letting the Bush White House run away with the narrative this week, and neither does most of America.

Relax, Alaska’s the biggest small town in the world. I’ve known about these pictures for years, and forgotten about them more than once. They were referenced by one of the photographers in a thread about Stevens yesterday at TPMMuckraker, which reminded me again. He needs all the nudges we can give him.

I’ve met The Lurking Mod. I expect he has that effect on a lot of women.
Eureka, can you see that the DeeCee Democrats get ahold of that poll, please? I do not understand why they are letting the Bush White House run away with the narrative this week, and neither does most of America.
That is good info, Eureka. I just keep thinking the dems have something up their sleeves. They can’t seriously just be letting Bush get another FU, can they? Someone was saying on Air America today that it is the fault of Clinton, Edwards and Obama. They haven’t stepped up, and look forward to everyone hating republicans at the time of the elections. If that’s true, the dems are getting just as bloody as the repubs.
In conversations with Alaska locals, I’ve heard that the legend of Stevens’ temper dates back to the death of his wife in 1978 when the couple’s plane crashed landing at the Anchorage airport. TNR fleshes out how Stevens’ first response to the tragic incident was to lash out at Sen. Mike Gravel (D-AK), grumbling that if it weren’t for Gravel, he and his wife wouldn’t have needed to rush to a meeting over a piece of legislation Gravel was trying to block.
His accusation became more specific in what a former Senate aide who was present calls “one of the most horrifying moments in the modern Senate.” According to the aide (the story was also chronicled by The Washington Post at the time), Stevens hobbled into a Senate committee hearing a couple of months later on crutches and in bandages. With Gravel present, Stevens raised the topic of his reason for flying that fateful day. “I don’t want to get personal about it,” he told the stunned audience, “but I think if that bill had passed, I might have a wife sitting at home when I get home tonight, too.”

(who has the water balloons??)
I thought you had the water balloons. I’ve got five cases of silly string.
from an “ask the movie reviewer” column in the Sunday pink section of the SF Chronicle:
Dear Mick LaSalle: In your article on coolness, you teased and didn’t deliver. Who isn’t cool? C’mon, man. Cool guys like me really need to know.
Paul Domeier, Coarsegold (Madera County)
Dear Paul Domeier: The whole cool thing is a continuum, but to define the extremes on both ends, I’d say on one side you have Cary Grant and on the other you have Karl Rove. Grant is particularly interesting, because if you watch his movies, he invariably looks at people with fascination and affection. He seems to really admire everybody, though implicit in his admiration is a thought that goes something like, “I think it’s wonderful how well you’re doing, considering you’re going through life laboring under the burden of not being Cary Grant. If I weren’t Cary Grant, I bet I wouldn’t be doing nearly as well as you are. Good for you. You’re terrific.” Rove has the opposite vibe, which goes something like, “Sure, you’re glad you’re not me. I can see it in your face. But I don’t care, because if you get me angry, I can make you even more miserable than I am.” There it is: cool and uncool in a nutshell.
