Zed!!!
zed crap
ZED!
zed
ZED
*shakes fist at Joe* :)
JEEBUS
ha!
I don’t think we’ve ever had five zedhunters before.
Drat! Foiled again.
I mean, look… the first six comments have the same timestamp…
11?
the snack got epu’d
the zedheads are here
*scampers off to read article*
peanutbutter @ 10
As they say at umpire school: “A tie goes to the runner, but there are no ties.”
Love y’all!
Christine
*scampers back as quickly as left*
I was busy looking at the snack. (Excuses, excuses.) Thinking to myself, hey, T-Betsy accommodates my new lifestyle.
Well, aren’t we a feisty bunch for a school night?
I’m finishing laundry, and dreading tomorrow. It’s that damn “work sucks” and “I have bills to pay” conundrum.
so, pups, i want ya’ll to be using your company behavior while i’m gone – The Lurking Mod will be watching over ya while i am gone and i don’t wanna hear a bad report when i get back.
TeddySanFran @ 8
Somebody mentioned the other day that perhaps we should pay $10.00 to FDL for the Zed. I think that’s a good idea, so long as there’s no real enforcement. Just a handshake type thing, and the player would have to write ZED.
Suzanne @ 20
Or else a directed cannonball, eh? :-)
Suzanne, I will behave …
peanutbutter @ 14
It is one of Teddy’s heavier posts.
Suzanne @ 20
there is no substitute for the great suzanne.
we will miss you.
(who has the water balloons??)
no water balloons and no spitballs either (yes teddy, i am looking at you young man)
Loo Hoo. @ 24
Hence my speedy return :-)
No audio anyway.
I will not behave. I don’t know *how*. (Ectoplasms are notoriously hard to socialize.)
peanutbutter @ 17
Not much to read; put this one up quickly, hoping for Countdown after the football here on the Left Coast, but none to be seen.
Looks like Keith and the Countdown crew took tonight off. I thought it was a new regular Sunday gig?
Trust us, Suz. Just plain trust us. Enjoy the time with your mom and auntie…
But who will splash us?
Loo Hoo. @ 21
That means this post earned FDL fifty bucks, since all five timestamps are the same. Pay up, you zedgetters!
TeddySanFran @ 29
The Ministry of Truth is putting pressure on Keith’s sponsors. And Network. Many local affiliates won’t carry it. Not good.
Suzanne, where ya going? If I’m not being too nosy…
Good journeys, Suzanne. I hope you have a great trip
and I promise not to poke the trolls.Well, I promise to try real hard not to poke them, anyway.
althespook @ 28
And, yes Suzanne – I have althespook in my sights…
:-)
TeddySanFran @ 29
i thought it was a one time deal only. but ko will be doing stuff on football.
But Countdown isn’t even listed in the network’s schedule for tonite. Can’t the Ministry of Truth be happy with all the other hours and all the other networks?
The Lurking Mod @ 35
(slinks abashedly behind boathouse…)
Keith will be doing regular appearances on weekend sports, Sunday night football kinda thang, but Countdown was a one time deal. It did well, so it may come back at some point.
no one is eating?
TSF — he promoted it on his show Friday night. Might just be a time-zone thing.
When I first moved to Alaska in 1976, the Sunday football game on TV was the Monday night game from the week before. They flew the video tape up here. Same way, they flew the 11:00 news from Seattle up to play the next day at 6:00 pm. There would be a little scrawl under it which said, “Not current in this time zone.” To old-timers here (sour-doughs, not cheechakos) the expression, “not current in this time zone” is a way of saying, we don’t get your new-fangled ways. Of course, with the invention of satellites, etc., those days are mostly gone.
TeddySanFran @ 31
come to think of it, I was never all that into zedsterism.
TexBetsy @ 40
(scarfing and slurping noises emerge from behind boathouse…)
The Lurking Mod @ 35
hehehehehhe
my mother is coming up for a visit – she arrives at the little cottage by the creek in the redwoods on tuesday, 9/11, same day as the solar eclipse. i’m fixing a fancy smancy lunch and then they are abducting me to my aunt mary’s. there are no tubes there. i return friday.

Suzanne,
Spent three weeks this summer with old mum and dad and also in-laws. All in 80’s and various dimensions of moving (literally) & memory loss. So hard, and sad, and lots of tears.
KO was on the 1/2 time report, giving out a “worst person in the NFL” award to the Jets fans who booed a player for leaving a game due to injury.
Hmm…I seem to recall a certain “birth of zed” exchange…..
TexBetsy @ 40
*pops up by the buffet table, hopefully*
So, what’s there? :-D
peanutbutter @ 49

althespook @ 38
Pound away, Alfred – it is those 5 am edt chats on physics that get teh Lurking Mod… Can’t follow them at all!
OT: A friend just sent me a link to a very good Kevin Drum article, called “Chaos Hawks.” But, as you read it, bear in mind the old saying from the State Department: “In chaos, there’s opportunity.”
TexBetsy @ 50
Noodles! **slurrrrrrrrp** Thank you!
kirk murphy @ 48
damn. busted.
An occasional break from the tubes is a good thing. I’ll try it again someday. ;)

Th’s oootay, ten! (munch chomp gobble GULP)
Thanks! Will try to restrict posts to politics, like this one. (Try and hide the charts on us, will you, Betrayus?)
(I mentioned this a few threads back. Petraeus was the name of a classical centaur. Not a nice one either. Hmmmm.)

those shrinks, they remember everything
Help, I guess I need to go to bed…
Suzanne @ 58
It’s because they take notes. I’ve watched and it’s true. And they use a mirror to write backwards to confuse the patient.
Back from a music professor party. You know you’ve been to a music prof party when, after driving over 40 miles home from it, it isn’t even 9:00 p.m. yet. It was fun, though – welcoming the new classical guitar prof who is also a lutenist, which should spice up the baroque and renaissance performances around here.
On a quest to gather photos of Ted Stevens traveling around the state with a young woman,. his mistress, back before his wife died in a plane crash. He just blamed the plane crash on Mike Gravel – again – and it is time to call BS on his posturing.
I won’t tell the Zed paternity search if you don’t.
Man, I must have pissed in somebody’s cheerios, I’ve had two reboot twice and lost three comments along the way…!!! ;-)
Christine Edmonson @ 59
Yeah me too.
CTuttle @ 63
Reminder —- skip cheerios for a few days.
Let’s hear about the “birth of zed.”

ET, if you give me cognitive whiplash I’m gonna sue your musical butt. MOST people’s minds do NOT jump effortlessly from “baroque lutenist” to “getting pix of corrupt pol flying around state with mistress”. I’m just sayin…(hunts behind boathouse for brain bleach…)

that’s my story , and I’m sticking to it.
YOU PEEKED!
That’ll be five more years back on your analyst’s couch, ectoplasm id.
Eureka, can you see that the DeeCee Democrats get ahold of that poll, please? I do not understand why they are letting the Bush White House run away with the narrative this week, and neither does most of America.
althespook @ 32
The local affiliate here doesn’t carry it. They show an infomerical instead.
just spent ten minutes looking for a good Hardy Boys boathouse image, came up empty. “The Sleuth” has left the building.
Hey, I’m with Ed*ard Teller @ 61.
I went from “baroque lutenist” to corruption, to global warming all in the same whirlwind of thought!

Teddy’s got some ’splainin’ to do to his fiance.
Tonights FDL Pet Piccie (brought to you by Cuteums, the Snak Your Pet Luuurrrves You To Give It!) is here.

Wait, when did Ted Stevens’ wife die? And how can he blame Mike Gravel?
Margot @ 78
no, no… the LM is the good cop…
*ducking*
althespook @ 69
I’ve got malpractice and nonpractice insurance. Last week I almost needed the nonpractice insurance when it looked like I wasn’t going to be ready to play Shards II by our first concert, but I did.
Relax, Alaska’s the biggest small town in the world. I’ve known about these pictures for years, and forgotten about them more than once. They were referenced by one of the photographers in a thread about Stevens yesterday at TPMMuckraker, which reminded me again. He needs all the nudges we can give him.
newtonusr @ 82
where?
Margot @ 78
Fear not, Dear Margot! Lurk just nibbles.
Ed*ard Teller @ 61
The Goopers play for keeps up there, but, in general, the list of possibly politically related light-plane deaths is astonishing.

I spread the rumor at the music prof party that Al Gore wants to change the tuning of “A” to 500 cps to make us more acutely aware of the problems.
TeddySanFran @ 74
That is good info, Eureka. I just keep thinking the dems have something up their sleeves. They can’t seriously just be letting Bush get another FU, can they? Someone was saying on Air America today that it is the fault of Clinton, Edwards and Obama. They haven’t stepped up, and look forward to everyone hating republicans at the time of the elections. If that’s true, the dems are getting just as bloody as the repubs.

Um, I have chocolate.

If there are pecans in the chocolate, we have a deal!
Can’t believe I did this, but I bought a box of Milky Ways at Costco today (fer the kids!). I froze a few, and think I’ll have one now. Why are candy bars better when they’re frozen?
Loo Hoo. @ 113
IIRC the coldness triggers “hot/cold” neural activity at the same times as ’sweet/sour” activity, and thus you get a neurological twofer that emphasizes the signal to Teh Brain.
Or it may be that freezing liberates the Candy Faeries and lets them sprinkle Fairy Dust on your tongue before they phase back to the FTL universe.
Can anyone tell it’s getting late here at Teh Spook Lair?
Dear Lurking Mod:
Pecans? Mmm.
Yes, we have pecans and chocolate.
althespook @ 104
Heh, knowing you, they’re probably bootleg copies of the NIE and the PDB…!!! ;-)
Loo Hoo. @ 113
A box? from Costco? must be, like, 144? I’m getting fatter just imagining them.
CTuttle @ 116
Who said anything about bootleg? SOME of us are still in Teh Loop…
I may have discovered something yesterday. I made a big batch of ceviche for the music prof party:
Copper River Sockeye, halibut, jalapena, ancho, poblano, thai and other peppers, red onions, three kinds of basil, green peppercorns, crushed capers, cherry tomatoes, a mango, garlic seeds (from the flowers) and lime juice.
But I added three ounces of Patron Anejo tequila too. It seemed to burst the flavor bouquet over the top. About two quarts of it disappeared in a half hour.
althespook @ 114
Have you tried green chile baked in brownies yet? Such a combo!
Margot @ 120
regrettably, no can do chiles except the most mildest of Teh Mild. Otherwise it is a visit to the E-Room for some major antihistamines. No idea why. :(:(
Ed*ard Teller @ 108
Nope, live in Denver. That’s a group blog site, but fun. A primary contributor is from there though. Love her.
newtonusr @ 117
36 Milky Ways, also got Tootsie Pops and a mixed bag of “penny candy”.
Ed*ard Teller @ 119
Great Googly Moogly that sounds good! Next time, flash freeze a batch and fedex it to Da Spook. Just have em push it off the plane over northern San Antonio with a beeper, i’ll find it…:)
unconventional conventionist @ 122
What part of denver (lived there from 1968 to 2005)?
Ed*ard Teller @ 119
that just isn’t fair, et, not fair at all. dayamit, off to rummage in the pantry and fridge…
Ed*ard Teller @ 119
I bet it did. That sounds wonderful!
Margot @ 115
Margot is hereby freed from all normal FDL behavioral constraints, on account of chocolate and pecans.
Anyone else care to ante up?
TheOtherWA @ 127
I consider this Food Porn.
althespook @ 124
Which brings me to what I wanted to ask you. Is a thermonuclear Tomahawk missing, or what?
althespook @ 118
:P
The Lurking Mod @ 128
Nothing I have will compete with chocolate and pecans. Nothing much *can*….
ET, that sounds like some killer ceviche. Did you serve it with corn chips or what?
Lurking Mod, the frozen Milky Way won’t save me?
Well, pups, this welcome back to the lake has been grand, but I must now to bed, as the client’s office calls in the morning. Thanks for all your marriage emails (and calls and faxes in the morning??)
We’ll see if the Terminator does the right thing.
See you later!
Loo Hoo. @ 133
Yeah – the organic red ones that are dyed with beets and include a little bit of beet pulp to give them sweetness. This coming week, I have to deal with my bumper crop of beets – five kinds.
The Lurking Mod @ 128
Depends on whether it is milk or dark chocolate.
Night, Teddy. And I was right, the dems are looking at some backbone.
(Via C&L)
g’nite teddy – thanks and good to have ya back on the left coast.
althespook @129
Hahahahaha! Yes, that’s exactly what it is. To top it off, I’m reading “My Life in France” by Julia Child. It’s a great read. Life in post war France, learning to speak French, and learning to cook. She didn’t even learn to cook until she was in her mid-thirties! I never knew that. The book has fabulous descriptions of markets and vegetables and cream and butter, and wine, then more cream and butter.
ET, I’m salivating.
Hope nobody catches me. With yesterday being World Rabies Day, folks could get the wrong idea…
Wow that ceviche sounds good. No water in it, right?
Sweet dreams and a good Monday to ya teddy.
OK –
A – Lurking Mod, I got all kindsa nuts and chocolates. Want a truffle?
B – E teller, that must a been a hell of a profeesor’s party
C – Al The Spook, Congress Park. By the Botanic Gardens.
D – all y’all type so damn fast…
I love beets. Steamed and with a tad of butter, salt and pepper.
Goodnight, Teddy.
Welcome back to family-friendly San Francisco!
TheOtherWA @ 140
are there recipes too?
Ed*ard Teller @ 130
Oh ghod.
Okay, this is a really really brief precis of The Big Barksdale Bomb Bumble:
Back in August (no one is saying exactly when), a B52 was loaded up with six advanced cruise missiles on its wing hardpoints (three each side I believe) which were SUPPOSTED to be carrying “training warheads” simulating the weight and flight characteristics of the “dial a yield” boosted fission weapons currently in use. Such weapons can be “dialed down” to 5 Kilotons yield (bunker buster) or “dialed up” to 150 Kilotons yield (theatre level nuke tens times as powerful as the one dropped on hiroshima). The missiles were being flown to Barksdale AFT for decommissioning as newer versions of the weapon are arriving. The training warheads were to be disposed of too.
When the B-52 landed at Barksdale, the flight crew went to pull off the ACM and found, to their horror, that they were NOT carrying “training warheads” but Teh Real Thing. The told their Superiors, who laughed at them. They told their superior’s superiors, who laughed at them, for about ten hours until finally somebody was persuaged to GO LOOK. Then Teh Shit hit Teh Fan.
Now, OFFICIALLY, all is well. Said Nukes are back in the Chain of Custody, everything is fine, just fine, nothing to see here, move along. LOOK! BRITNEY SPEARS! NAKED!
Unofficially, all hell is breaking loose. The general who signed the things out a week before they were “accidentally flown to barksdale” has been dead in iraq for a year.
And six theatre yield ACM’s fired standoff from Iraq into Iran would utterly destroy the country. I’m working up a blog post to provide the details from old cold war simulations I have access to.
I suspect either Boosh or Cheney trying to avoid the unwillingness of Teh Joint Chiefs to go Nukular.
Stay Tuned…
Loo Hoo. @ 134
Maybe. If you can convince ET to FedEx me some of that ceviche as per althespook, we’re golden.
npb – Dark is preferred, but when it comes to pecans, it’s secondary.
Evening all!
G’night, TSF.
I’m right behind you, but I will leave behind a small taste of one of my favorite voices, Karen Matheson of the Scottish group Capercaillie.
g’nite burns
hey alicia
TeddySanFran @ 135
Night TSF! Remember, you ARE married. The little pieces of dried leaves from Teh State means virtually nothing!
Hi Alicia! Getting here later than usual, no?
TheOtherWA @ 140
She may have been the first person to convince middle class people they could afford to create gourmet meals for special events at home. Her Mastering the Art of French Cooking was a masterpiece that showed the way for hundreds of cookbooks, and the Food Channel. She was one of the first cookbook writers to rationally and convincingly explain to the American people why you shouldn’t overcook vegetables.
So does this mean I can make mad macros all down the page?
I can’t even think of anything bad to do. What a sad state of affairs.
Yep – read to the kids, put ‘em to bed, clean house for the week – time to kick back for a few before 5:30 AM strikes!
The Lurking Mod @ 128
How about Macadamia nuts dipped in chocolate??? *g*
Nite, Teddy! I shall bid a fond adieu, as well! I need to severely scold my PC! Aloha Oe!!!
Have a good time with the fam, Suz – we’ll be waiting for you when you get back!
g’nite ct
CTuttle @ 157
YOU. EVIL. MAN. I haven’t had those in DECADES. Dammit, now I want some…
Not really. There are a couple of typed pages reproduced from her notes when she and two other women were writing a cookbook. They’re stamped “TOP SECRET.” Seriously. Old habits from her days in the OSS apparently. She was very protective of her work before it was published.
Margot @ 155
I can’t find anything in the official manual about the macros. Knock yourself out!
The Lurking Mod @ 162
(laughing) i am so gonna miss you guys this week
You going to fix that mess @ 160, Alfred?
althespook @ 147
I’m embarrassed to say I laughed really, really hard when I read that, Al. There’s a lot in what you said, but you didn’t answer my question. Did it take off with six of these and land with five, or will we never know until we’re forced to forget when Fargo ND disappears and there are photos on CNN in 90 minutes of Iranians at an ATM in Moorehead or Duluth?
The ghosts of Peter Sellers and Stanley Kubrick are turning in their graves right now…
The Lurking Mod @ 164
It won’t let me. Can you do it? (i’m getting sleepy and starting to miss the last blockquote…)
Ed*ard Teller
Her challenge getting the first book published was adapting French style cooking to American kitchens. And convincing publishers that American women would buy the books.
I tried cooking eggs from the description in the book, and they were a huge improvement over my usual. Probably not up to her standards, but I really liked them.
The Lurking Mod @ 164
Scold’em!!! *g* (poof)
Hard-refresh everybody!
We’ll miss you, Suz. Bet you’re going to miss the tubes in general. It’s rough going without!
Julia’s The Way To Cook is one of my most beloved cookbooks.
Night, CT.
Loo Hoo. @ 170
yeah, i start jonesin just thinking about it.
althe spook
Ok, now you’ve freaked me out.
The Lurking Mod @ 162
mackerels, in the ceviche? I dunno.
Suz – get me a souvenir…?
Ed*ard Teller @ 165
They TELL us all six were recoverd, in fact were never “lost” because they just sat on the runway on the plane’s hardpoints all the time.
What they aren’t telling us is how many are missing from other such “mistakes”….
I have heard that it takes nine distinct steps to get your hands on one of these nukes, five of which require biometric computerized identification. And apparently after all that, the nukes were “accidentally” loaded into “training warhead” cages rather than the “live fire ones”. So six nuclear weapons sat in a simple locked steel cage inside a munitions hanger for an unknown amount of time with no guards or other precautions. An NCO with a master key or a bolt cutter could have made off with them. I feel SO much safer…
…none of which addresses how the nine steps were successfully bypassed. The head of nuclear security for the AF flatly told the head of the senate sub committee on the matter that it was physically impossible to bypass them “accidentally” and that at least four people WITH ACCESS had to be involved.
like I said, Teh Shit is hitting Teh Fan.
Suzanne @ 173
you’ll be fine. it’s us you need to worry about. :~)
TheOtherWA @ 174
Ok, now you’ve freaked me out.
Yes. What is that business about the dead general, AK?
Oh, and BTW I actually have an on topic comment.
Marriage is special, particularly when it means you would do ANYTHING for your beloved. For instance, call it “Fidelio.”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWNoBCh1ZNE
At this very end, the WIFE who has gone through hell and back prentending to be a MAN to help her MAN while he is falsely imprisoned in jail, and every body else on stage (read community) are rejoicing that they have triumphed over the Fascist state they found themselves in.
I sincerely hope that the day is near, despite any of this bad news I read today, that someday, I shall have the same recogintion of my or my partner’s committedness, nonetheless, heroism in the face of the madness we see today.
Be gay and hold hands in YOUR downtown and ytou know exactly what I mean.
punaise,
I made mackerel ceviche in Kailua Kona on my honeymoon in 1979. It really helps if they’re very fresh – we caught them – and at least five pounds.
newtonusr @ 176
a souvenir? from martinez? (laughing)
Suzanne @ 182
what, no Joe DiMaggio bobblehead dolls there?
How ’bout a big ‘ol hunk of orange-brown air?
Suzanne @ 182
Oh. yeah. *slinks away*
We will miss you, and we await your resplendent return.
Ed*ard Teller @ 181
sounds good!
while in Brittany last month I went out with my wife’s cousin on his little zodiac boat, line-fishing for mackerel. Only caught four that morning, but it was a beautiful outing, and they grilled up nicely.
Loo Hoo. @ 179
This is all under the rose stuff from my spookly buddies who are every bit as scared about this as I am. You won’t find anything in the MSM about it, probly never will.
That said, what I’m told is that the Nuke IG people ran a security audit on how the damn things got released in the first place. They were released for inter-locker transfer at the home field (forget where) using all the right biometric codes and signatures. This sort of transfer is done when a storage unit is wearing out for one reason or another and needs replacement. All routine and No Big Deal.
Except when they opened the receiving locker, they found six TRAINING WARHEADS. Not nukes. Oopsie. Dis Is Not Good. So they check on all the signatures. The Non-coms were all SOF guys flown in on a special detail supposedly for training using some high end simulator there (no details allowed, code word above my level). They have vanished back into SOF world and cannot be reached at this time. So sorry, need to know. The general who was supposedly there per regs to oversee the shift is the one who has been dead for a year. SOMEBODY had his IDs and the biometrics had been altered to match the impostor. He’s just gone, no record of anyone with that info in the system ever. Computer Glitch. Right.
The whole nuclear arsenal is under hard lockdown, armed guards with TWEP rules of engagement if valid access is not shown ASAP around all weapons, changed every two hours with random personnel. They are taking the squadron that was SUPPOSED to fly with the B52’s to Iraq next month offline for a whole month to run its personnel through the wringer to find out how many are bogus and how many are real AF personnel.
They’s calling it “Six Weeks In August”, a take of on the Five Days in May by Fletcher Knebel.
And yes, I still have my clearances. And I’m authorized to tell you this.
Like I said, we are scared. Fortunately, so are a lot of other far more capable people.
This ain’t over. Stay tuned.
al, what is SOF
Suzanne @ 188
Special Operations Forces. Delta Force, Seals, etc. Forget what the flyboys call their but they have them. Since the neocons took over with the Wah on Terrah, they have their own little world effectively exempt from all other military commands. Our own little SS. How lovely for us.
What bothers me the most – SO FAR – about the Barksdale AFB incident is that there is no other way this could have happened without a serious disturbance of the USAF chain of command. I’ve been predicting something like this as an indicator of the rapture crowd taking control of the USAF here, for at least the past nine months or so. Al has provided a few glimpses into how that battle between rationalism and blind faith is playing out in that branch of our military. But I can’t believe that our vast journalism machine is totally incapable of seeing what is fairly obvious here. The biggest coup since November, 2000 and biggest deception operation to unfold stateside since late summer 2001 is in possibly unstoppable modality.
althespook @ 187
woah, Nellie!
Ed*ard Teller @ 190
ET see my @187 above. And those of us who “watch the watchers” are not in bullshit mode in the slightest. If these fuckers pull something it will be nullified and they will pay the price. legally. we are through fooling around with them. no more mister nice soldier.
al, you’ve explained that you are trained to look for the worst case scenerio in every case – is there any other explaination that could be what happened?
Ed*ard Teller @ 190
That’s the first thing I thought of, the religious nuts at the Air Force Academy. The “warriors for God” thing isn’t funny.
Some of these true believers really want to kick start Armageddon, don’t they?
althespook –
Your clearance allows you to write about this – am confused – do you mean allows confirmation of the story?
al, two questions:
what is TWEP?
assuming the squadron is confined (so the bogus ones can’t *poof*), where are the non-AF from?
SOF? NSA? OVP? Blackwater?
Jeebus – we don’t have a republic.
We have an empire, with the praetorians battling for control.
Suzanne @ 193
yes. I just haven’t found it yet. Remember the question about taking the squadron down for a month that was posted earlier? I called my minder ans asked WTF? He told me what I posted earlier. Therefore, the Big Boys of Teh Military haven’t found a less frightening explanation either.
Let me try to put this in terms you might be more familiar with. You pull over a bus in your area of california and on it you find the Unabomber, The OK Bomber Guy, A dozen Serial Killers, and Osama Bin Laden. All had been legally checked out from their respective prisons and set up to take this bus ride to the supermax in colorado. Except they were headed for Tiajuana and Supermax had no records of any transfer scheduled. Would the fact you had them all back in custody make you feel any safer?
That’s what we’re dealing with here.
I’m more concerned that these unaccounted for and irresponsibly transported WMDs, dialable to anything between six Hiroshimas and a dirty bomb are going to be used here, than that they might be used against the Iranians. Either way sucks, but the most scripted GOP prezbot – Thompson – is already reading the reaction script to a stateside nuclear event.
Is the Armed Services Committee on this, AK? As I said when this story first came out, this is the scariest thing yet. Wonder why the MSM has dropped it…
newspaperbrat @ 195
no. it means I won’t lose my clearance by telling you. normally i would, but we are that scared. you can’t confirm any of it because it is too deeply held. but you CAN confirm bits and pieces that slip to the public, like the training warheads thing, the taking down the squadron in va, that sort of thing. And of course I don’t exist on the grid (that should be no surprise, I got sanitized a LONG time ago).
So don’t call up the AP and say “Al the spook says!” But DO check with your friends and buddies. look for footprints in the forest. report back and I’ll send it up the chain.
We are that desperate, that we are appealing (under the table) to the bloggosphere for help.
althespook @ 197
I sorta had that feeling today, when we were talking about this with friends at breakfast. I asked “How in the hell did nobody know these weapons were missing?”
althespook @ 189
Combat and Control, if i remember correctly. They do a lot of Recon for the AF. I remember hearing about it and all the guys going gaga about the chance to eventually qualfiy for it.
kirk murphy @ 196
TWEP “termination with extreme prejudice” Milspeak for shoot to kill.
SOF special operations forces. I don’t know what the AF calls theirs.
The non-AF would be either cashiered xtianists from the AF academy or AF personnel no longer active duty who have been snuck in via the hacking. Just a guess, but a reasonable one.
I know I asked this earlier and ET touched on it with his concerns of potential use..
How could we ever be sure they have been safely returned?
What makes everyone think they’re headed to Iran. I understand the Dark Side thinking, but could it be that they were moved by people who would like to use them here?
Ed*ard Teller @ 198
They better not. Go read The Sum Of All Fears. We can tell where nukes come from. All of them. That is one of the reasons the IAEC boys exist, to take samples to prove country X DIDN”T supply the enriched uranium or plutonium to a given bomb. Even the israelis secretly participate in that.
And IF these fools pull such a stunt, that is high treason in time of war. Death by firing squad is allowed upon completion of a drumhead court martial. And ALL civilians will be under martial law the minute this goes down. That includes chimpy and darth and a whole lot of pretty boy generals.
SIOP is not gone. It just went underground, as it were. Fuck with us at your peril.
Loo Hoo. @ 199
actually a subcommitee whose existence is classified. they are on it big time.
Al,
The AF SOF is Combat and Control. I remember watching the guys go nuts over the chance ot eventually qualify for it. Of course, us ladies were excluded, as always. There were very few(if any female pilots as well in 95 too).
The fundies hadn’t quite taken over at that time, as they allowed a Wiccan Circle every friday when i was at Lackland. I shudder to think of how bad they are now down there. Scary as hell.
From Think Progress:
MoveOn stages actual ‘dog and pony show.’
During an appearance on Meet the Press in July with Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Sen. James Webb (D-VA) referred to politicians’ visits to Iraq as “dog-and-pony shows.” In an email to its members today, MoveOn writes, “Congress was fooled before by the White House’s ‘dog and pony show’ — we need to make sure they’re not fooled again. That’s why we’re hosting our own ‘Dog and Pony Show’ outside the Capitol Building right before Petraeus takes the stage for his testimony. We want to show Congress and the cameras that the American people aren’t buying the White House spin.” More on the event:
Who: Iraq Vet, John Bruhns, Americans Against Escalation in Iraq, dogs, ponies and MoveOn members like you
What: Dog and Pony Show rally
Where: West Front Grassy Area of the U.S. Capitol between Constitution Ave. NW and Independence Ave. SW on 1st St. NW (click here for a map)
When: 10:30am-11:30am

Maybe I shoulda stayed with the recipe narrative, eh? I promise, Al, when we all get together next, to bring my kickass ceviche.
unconventional conventionist @ 201
Because of the dummy “trainig warhead switch”. This was carefully plotted. And so far, no more such switches have been found, my minder just emailed me to confirm that. However, we cannot yet verify the status of the warheads on the carriers. Not good.
althespook @ 207
Dare I ask if Speaker Pelosi and Senator Reid have been briefed by this subcommittee?
Eureka Springs @ 204
This group has been, and all the ones in the US are safe according to my sources. There aren’t that many actually because we have been decommisioning them and selling the uranium to the power plants and the plutonium to the japanese (who run the world’s only commercial breeder reactor). Strategic forces warheads are not of concern so far.
Loo Hoo. @ 205
see my @206.
What does the Commander in Chief know about all of this, and why did he stay at the “OPEC” convention with an emergency like this on the “homeland”?
althespook @ 200
Hi Al. A couple of months ago, you seemed almost smug about this stuff. Sort of “me and my friends have this shit under control.” Your tone seems to have changed a lot. What happened?
SIOP?
aliasofwestgate @ 208
Yeah, i’ll bet. But the IG has his own bad boys and they don’t seem to get involved in the xtianist crap. Pros all of them, many retired and reactivated. Good people, hung with them a lot when I was in harness (although I seem to be back, actually may have to go to DC and testify, dammit.)
Over 200 comments and no one has mentioned how INCREDIBLE Madeline Khan is? Unreal!
althespook @ 211
Are you baiting me, Al? I trust the US Navy so far in all this. There are a lot more Catholics, Jews, mainline old-school Protestants and agnostics in the Navy command structure than in the USAF. I can’t see them turning the next page in Revelations, like the USAF might be doing.
Loo Hoo. @ 215
He’s guarding the border between Australia and Austria. Negotiating a treaty between APEC and OPEC. Writing a sequel to “My Pet Goat.”
wigwam @ 216
We were dealing with the little shit Wurmser and we got complacent. Somebody just buggered the entire command and control aparatus of the AF nuclear weapons security system with the apparent intent of making an unauthorized (by JCOS) attack on Iran with theatre level nuclear weapons. We have fortunately been superceded by the BIG BOYS and are now on the sidelines (except for a few including myself who have been asked to go “back in harness” and been temporarily reactivated.)
We WERE smug. That will teach us better.
Ed*ard Teller @ 220
heh heh.
Ed*ard Teller @ 220
I would never “bait” you ET, I would never “bait” anybody. The fact remains that until we have an IG verified lockdown on ALL nuclear weapons that can be launched from a plane or cruise missile, this security breach is not over with. That is all I meant to say. Please don’t take anything the wrong way.
And bear in mind, the AF people involved at Barksdale and other places were NOT the movers in this, they were compromised from without. The Navy is just as vulnerable, as is the Army. You know how rotten the top is of our government, where military, political, and business interests all fuse into an unholy alliance. Nothing should surprise you at this point.
Ed*ard Teller @ 210
I look forward to it. And please don’t think I would “bait” you. I don’t play such games at the Lake, it would be blasphemy to me.
I hope so, Al. I remember what they told us. It’s been a good 12, nearly 13 years since i was down there. It’s amazing how much i still remember from that time as well. I knew they were mind games, but of course didn’t qualify for anything that i could use this ability to smell bullshit a mile away. (useful for helping to detect those trying to pass fake perscriptions on us at work)
My adopted mother is still a canadian citizen. So…disqualified from any kind of decent clearance job. I really have no idea what disqualified me, but i have a feeling that was a large factor. I just find it funny that my memories from then, are coming in handy now. And i didn’t make it through boot camp. (not that i had any choice, the bone broke itself!)
Loo Hoo. @ 217
Strategic Integrated Operations Plan. Cookbook for massed nuclear, biological, and chemical retaliation launch against the Soviet Union. The end of the world in a nice plastic three ring binder. I held them every day for about fifteen years, and wrote the simulations on which they were based and then ran them against the other planners. I won most of the time, up until the last throw, then I lost. If they could beat ME, they knew they could beat the sovs.
ok, i’ve got 36 hours to get my house in nana white glove condition and plan the luncheon menu, buy the groceries and flowers, cook the meal.
Off to bed and see ya Friday (waving to all the pups)

IIRC, Wumser is pretty much an Israeli agent. Right?
Loo Hoo. @ 215
It’s not an emergency to him, the little shit. It’s just a minor setback in his Holy Playan. Bastard. Either he or cheney (and my money’s on him) set this up. no one else COULD. Why do you think the AFIG is so scared right now?
Al @ #224 – thanks. Sorry on my choice of words. If you and your concerned colleagues are who you claim and hope to be, this may end up being the real reason for the existence of firedoglake.
see ya, Suzanne.
Suzanne @ 228
Bye suz. Try not to worry. I think we got to the bastards in time. This time.
Suzanne @ 227
Niters Suz – already miss you! Enjoy every minute throughout the visit.
Al, this most likely means nothing but it struck me as odd: Link
Body found
Sounds like a suicide. There’ve been a lot of those in the military lately. FYI, even if it’s nothing.
Just a quick drive-by to say hi to all. 3:25am here in FL, and I need to be up in two hours.
And while I’m trying to sleep, there’s someone with a big budget and powerful friends trying to get their hands on planeloads of nuclear weapons…and we don’t know who it is.
Sleep tight.
Ed*ard Teller @ 232
My father (who is an ordained protestant minister, now retired) has suggested this at least twice when he is out of his alzheimers. He also has had a dream about how this presidency may end. If there is even a HINT it could happen I’m sending you and a couple others the transcript. Our lawyer has a copy as well. It’s scary shit. (hint: it starts with Cheney taking power after a double murder suicide in the oval office. And gets worse from there.)
althespook @ 200
F*ck, AK, ya woke my a** up, five were accounted for at BAFB, eh, Six left, Minot!!! 8-(
Night, Suz, I’m sure your meal for mom will be delightful. We’ll miss you!
Suzanne @ 227
Night Suz!
TheOtherWA @ 236
I just called my minder with the name. Just in case.
Good Night Suzanne. We’ll take good care of her whilst you’re away.
RonD, sweet blooming dreams!
Thanks, Al.
G’nite Suzanne (YGM at the profilebook) – sleep well!
G’nite pups – pleasant dreams.
ANd now off to bed.
*poof*
Good night and all best, Suzanne. The sooner we see you on thread again, the happier we shall be.
CTuttle @ 239
CT are you telling me we have a FUCKING MISSING WARHEAD? (I’m channeling Nicole Kidman here. “That’s not enough dayam warheads?” Clooney “For once you could say something nice!”
As far as i know, SIX were accounted for at Barksdale. Do you have a linky that says otherwise? (If it was one of my posts, forget it. spastic typing is the rule now. SIX, count them SIX warheads WERE RECOVERED AT BARKSDALE.)
I hope and pray…
(((Loo Hoo)))
Good night, all. May the best be as apparent coming as going.
It was six, AK.
althespook @ 248
Aviation Week had something posted, I’d read initially saying five where accounted for(of five sent)… :~(
CTuttle @ 251
That was an early report, when things were just starting to get publicity. All the confirmed reports say SIX warheads. So I think we’re okay. HOWEVER, if you or anyone else sees an MSM report after today saying less that six warheads, let the mods know on FDL. I want that link asap.
Bear in mind, I think we have stopped THIS conspiracy. What worries me is the next one. If you see in the MSM that the Air Force Inspector General has been transferred, relieved of duty, or dies mysteriously, THEN we start to worry.
RonD @ 249
RonD, did you get my explanation on Petraeus, how we are both right? if not I’ll post linky again.
Betrayus’ numbers? It’s miracle math.
Ed*ard Teller @ 220
Heh, …being Army, I don’t trust those Fly Boys…!!!
Sorry, from TPM:
The best we can tell the methodology Petraeus’s staff is using to tabulate the numbers also remains classified.
In other words, it’s not just a matter of getting the numbers from Petraeus and his staff and deciding whether you believe them or not. They won’t even tell us what the numbers are — let alone how they came up with them. All they’ll say is that they’re very good. Or in some cases that there’s X percentage drop over the course of the surge. Or an isolated number here or there.
But actual hard numbers? Going back over the last couple years? For some reason we’re not allowed to see those.
Alfred – just jumping back in… I missed this point in the story, but is seems crucial to me – Why do we even know about this? Did a non’koolaid drinking AF officer threaten to go public if the Gummint didn’t fess up?
I have to read up-thread…
CTuttle @ 255
It has nothing to do with the service in question. This particular buggering of the system could have just as easily been pulled off against the Army or the Navy. It HAD to come from the very top. And that is Bad News.
So we have to give up our interservice rivalries in the interests of pure survival at the moment. We can then go back to cordially hating each other AFTER we prevent the unauthorized nuclear war…
althespook @ 258
Tricky Dick’s stovepipe Ops…!!!
Bear in mind, I think we have stopped THIS conspiracy. What worries me is the next one. If you see in the MSM that the Air Force Inspector General has been transferred, relieved of duty, or dies mysteriously, THEN we start to worry.
But Al, how can you have stopped this conspiracy if you haven’t figured out who arranged it?
newtonusr @ 257
Newtonuser (BTW, do any of those even still WORK? how do you get spare parts and batteries?) you have put your finger right on the GSPOT!
This shit went down in mid to late AUGUST and we are only NOW finding out about it. It was under close hold while the nuke inspections were being carried out. then AWAST got a hint. Then Military.com got a full story. Then it went MSM with confirmation. My guess is the IG leaked it himself when his initial investigation hit a dead end with the buggered computer system. But that is only a guess. But it was leaks that got it to us.
I dont’ even want to contemplate ‘authorized’ nuclear war.
Edit: Blargh. misplaced commas demand sleep. G’night everyone.
Al,
“The Air Force announced that all flights of fighters and bombers in the United States will be halted on September 14 to allow for a review of procedures.”link
Q: Wasn’t there some training thing going on on 9/11?
So no fighters in the air…? Just a thought….
Loo Hoo. @ 260
WHO doesn’t matter now. It all depended on “business as usual”, nobody noticing as the nukes were slid out of command and control into the netherworld. That can’t happen now, to ANY nuke in the US arsenal. It was never an option with the strategic weapons, and we no longer have battlefield tac nukes, they were decommissioned due to their high security risk as soon as the WOT began (and we no longer needed them as a massive sov attack became impossible). Only these “dialabomb” cruise weapons are left now, carried on carriers and kept here for use by B52’s and B1, B2 and Stealth fighter bombers. So all of these babies EXCEPT the ones on the carriers are now locked down by the AF IG. The Navy IG is being a prick, but he has agreed to put armed guards who are verified by the AFIG through various pentagon hard channels over the exiting storages. Better than nothing. The AFIG has made it clear that if he doesn’t have a verified count of a) active weapons no dummy warheads and b) authorized status on launch codes and boxes by end of next week, he’s gonna go public with this. I suspect the NIG is getting er done as we speak. I hope so.
So whoever it is can’t get at the weapons any more EASILY. It’s the next step, the more overtly, that I, my friends, and the AFIG are worried about.
althespook @ 261
I coulda sworn it was an AF Master Sergeant, who had to sign for delivery of the training shells, actually had did his job, then rattled the proper cages…!!! Caught Tricky Dick napping I guess…!!! 8-)
althespook @ 260
Batteries are tough, but the older ones work fine with 4 AA’s.
And thanks for the answer.
Listening to the closet fascist Igor Stravinsky’s “Septet” to wash all of this out of my mind before I call it a day. Mid-career, he said he believed that all music is “absolute” and doesn’t decribe anything accurately enough to be actually purported as “programmatic” or as being able to portray events or scenarios – as in movie music. I disagree heartily, but love the “Septet” for its absolute beauty.
Margot @ 263
This is just peachy. The previous story said “Virginia only.” Now it is the entire COTUS USAF. Oh, crap…
I’ve got to hit it too. Good night, and look forward to hearing more tomorrow night, AK, if you have anything. Take good care.
Margot @ 262
I didn’t save the link but there was a link to an article saying rehersal coming up for several multinational/joint exercises who would cooperate in plans to help with preparedness for national disasters or martial law.
And I can’t help thinking about when Pelosi said we don’t know the half of it…
CTuttle @ 265
That is exactly right. He was SUPPOSED to put them away in their little cage and forget all about it. He instead LOOKED at the things and said. “Holy Fuck”. And the rest is history. From such small acorns do might conspiracies fall. Never forget the little people.
But he was the tail end of the process. The buggery went down to get the dayam things on the missiles in the first place. You DO NOT check those out of storage like library books. The fact they were in the wrong place, carefully set up to be loaded as “training dummies” is the bad thing. That simply COULD NOT have been any sort of accident. Period.
Eureka Springs @ 270
That’s later. And plenty of people are twitchy about that too. But this is sudden and different and it keeps growing. I am NOT PLEASED.
That’s what I want to know, WHEN did this actually happen? Maybe someday we’ll find out.
Ed*ard Teller @ 267
I view creative works as springing from a higher mind of the person than the grubby one we have to deal with here, the superego if you will. So I can enjoy the work and hate the artist with no qualms at all. Probably a total intellectual sophistry, but it gets me through the day. :)
althespook, are you still here…
I’m reading and listening to what you say but I’ve got one question…
Is Barksdale AFB a staging area for operations in the Middle East?…
(Not an expert, just heard something)…
TheOtherWA @ 274
The date is known, I believe. Just not released. What is not known is if any other attempts were made and failed.
ticktock @ 276
It most certainly is, Ollie. THAT is why the IG went “holy fucking fuck”.
And a B52 “training flight” with “training warheads” was scheduled over Iraq in early October, flown out of Barksdale with fighters from VA. Simulating a firing of conventional or nuclear weapons into iran in response to an attack against US carriers.
Gee, wouldn’t it have been a shame if those “traning warheads” were the real thing? oopsie.
ticktock @ 276
Two-fold, JRTC is right nearby, it is the last training site prior to deployment for most of the Army Brigades being sent to Iraq, and it’s a nuclear repository…!!!
Lurking Mod, if it is down to us I’m going to sign off here. My brain is turning to mush and I may get a call to scramble to DC at any time. They want me to do run a full workup on this Iran thing using my old simulations which have been mothballed. The two other guys who knew how to use the stuff are dead or senile.
But if people are still on and might need me, I’ll try to hang on.
CTuttle @ 279
CT, I’m about to collapse here. Anything else you need me for on this shit?
althespook @ 278
Where’s Gen. Jack Ripper when Deadeye Dick really needs him, huh?
althespook; My first response is to say thank you to you but my gut is trying to stick my head back in the sand….
Damn…
got to go will – thanks again
The CNN link was last updated on Thursday, 9/6 and said flights would be shut down in the U.S. on 9/14.
ticktock @ 283
don’t worry about it. your gut is perfectly reasonable. My gut just has a few decades of training in supressing the reflex, is all..
althespook @ 280
We’ll need you back here tomorrow evening. Sleep and return ready, would be my call.
Al, if you’re still up-yes, what I meant was I hope someday they tell us when the oopsie nuke flight happened. I’m quite sure the military knows.
The weird thing about the missing AF guy was that the news reports never described the car he’d rented when they were looking for him. Usually vehicle info is one of the first and only details the police may have for a missing person. Almost like they didn’t want help from the public.
Whatever. I’m rambling and it’s late. Sweet dreams of democracy and justice to you all!
*poof*
devis1 @ 283
DO you have the link?
Ed*ard Teller @ 282
Here is some backstory that I thought had been in the blogs but maybe not. Chimpy set up a full scale air war on Iran to start late this year or early next. Carrier and land aircraft, mission a three day attack, round the clock, to utterly destroy the iranian military. Every cruise missile available to be used, every plane available to be flown. High losses would be tolerated.
The JCOS said now. They said they would resign to a man, and all their adjutants too, rather than do this. Too many lost lives, too many lost planes, no replacement cruise missiles in case of need for many months, and a very high chance of getting one or more of the carriers sunk in a swarm attack of small boats and antiship misslies. They said no and chimpy had to back down. That much is public knowledge.
What is not known is whether some bright boy at the pentagon pointed out that nukular weapons, the theater level ones, could do the job with no losses to us forces at all. But what is known is that chimpy tried a smaller version using 10 to 30 KT yields on natanz and a couple of guards bases back in 2005. Again, the JCOS said no way and if he pushed it they would go public. And eventually they did.
My point is given all this, chimpy might have decided to do a Bag Job, militarily speaking. Bypass the JCOS and fire the weapons directly through complicit underlings. He is the Commandererer Guy In Chief, after all. Buffoon.
But it would explain all this perfectly. Too perfectly.
okay guys, i’ve crashed. thanks for all the support. i’m on the story and will be here tomorrow if possible. If I’m in the bowels of the pentagon I’ll send a post through before I leave. Be excellent to each other and watch for any signs from mews stories or friends, comrades in arms, or family that might fit the scenario I have outlined. I’ll see to it the AFIG gets the info. (exhausted poof)
scary shit, Al. thanks, I think…
yup… g’nite all
Eureka Springs @ 288
I followed your link!
http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/09/…..index.html
althespook @ 264
Just wondering. Were there any tankers where they weren’t supposed to be (say, orbiting over the Azores) on the day of the flight from ND to LA?
Eureka Springs @ 270
WTF????? “… several multinational/joint exercises … to help with preparedness for national disaster or martial law.“
I wonder if the chemical and biological weapons have all been accounted for?
wigwam @ 295
link
What if any countries are joining us for these joint military exercises are these exercises to be conducted in America or where?
Assuming that this came from the top I assume some planing has been done about the expected disruption in American oil supplies from the middle east.
Either Canada and Mexico are producing and working overtime, or we will sieze Hugo Chaves’s oil wells.
After all Hugo would be expected to halt all oil shipment to America if we attack his friend Iran.
things come undone @ 298
According to this. exercise locations will “include” (as a lawyer who has used that word innumerable times, its use in this context really unnerves me) Oregon, Arizona, and Guam.
hey TSF~thanks. I love Company, that song & never saw madeline do it.
I wanted the band to play the tune at my wedding as sort of an in joke but as unable to get that done….
Isn’t this lovely: apprently the Israeli air force is getting spun up for an attack on Iran.
Thanks Burnspbesq I can’t seem to find anything on google news about Canada or Mexico increasing oil production. Canada has already maxed out pipeline capacity already. Mexico’s oil production is still recovering from the hurricane. Can’t seem to find anything about any troop movments in South American that could threaten Hugo.
But another US supported coup is still possible.
burnspbesq @ 302
Any Military experts out there? Do the Israelis have enough planes and bombs to take out all of Iran’s scattered nuclear sites without using Nuclear Bombs?
Wait sorry the Israeli airforce did not have enough bombs to stop Hezbollah from shooting rockets at them from underground bunkers despite how many days? months? of trying.
Its either go nuclear or help us bomb Iran, but if Althespook is right we (meaning Bush our elected leader) or some rogue nuts high in our government were planning on going nuclear.
Great now I just convinced myself the only way a strike on Iran would work is with a massive ground invasion which we don’t have the troops for.
Or we use nukes!
Equally lovely: apparently Sharif was in Pakistan for all of four hours before being deported.

Al didn’t get a chance to answer this, so: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Wurmser
The point is that Wurmser is a neocon in the security aparatus.
As my sister reports Spanish speaking media is claiming the Cubans don’t like the Democrats or the Republicans.
That and Jeb plans to run in the next election after this one. He will claim the Democrats who are expected to win this election had their chance, but he expects the economy will be so messed up that no democrat will be able to fix it and that will be his issue.
Which is just great, the GOP plan is Bush destroys the economy so bad that Hilary or whomever wins gets to replay the Jimmy Carter Presidency.
Democrats have to make Bush pay for his war now during his term. They have to tax the rich and not the middle class if they expect to win the election.
I don’t care about the conventional wisdom of not raising taxes before an election. If we show the American people that its not them but the rich who are getting taxed we should be ok.
But it would help if we called the tax the tax to pay for Bush’s war.
Now I am *really* awake after reading thru’ this thread……. and may never go back to sleep again trying to keep up with incoming theads!
AK made a comment earlier today to the effect of being booted up to management recently. Daymn, that man does have a way with understatement! ;-(
If he shows up in DC guess it will be a closed door hearing.
Hope Pups will try to spread the word in *all* successive posts if further news from him.

I wonder if the Righty Blogs care about Martial law being declared I thought they were all about freedom and resisting a government takeover of their civil liberties…oh wait its ok if your a Republican!
Still I hope they read AltheSpooks comments and broadcast them all over the place given Bush’s popularity and the fact the majority of Americans already don’t trust the General Petraeus report I’m guessing many but not a majority will believe it.
The net effect our hardcore base but not the majority will be more motivated. However because the majority does not trust Bush or Petraeus apparently, any attempt to call us crazy lefty bloggers will fall on deaf ears.
After all Bush has worked very hard at destroying his creditbilty these six long years.
If Congress is out of session and back in their home districts it would be easier to declare martial law. Of course 9/11 is a pretty symbolic time too!

The tissue of lies has a way of becomming unraveled when put under stress, at some point even the stress of repeating is enough to render lies useless. There has been a string of lies passed off as “history” going back as far as the Spanish/American War in 1898 that leads directly to where the righty-blogs source their views and their false mythology of patriotism.
Also, do try to remember that support for the American Revolution encompased probably 25% tops, another 25% opposed, and 50% were not involved. Those figures apply today as well. It comes down to which 25% has the will to prevail and which has the convincing narrative in the end. One 25% is using facts, the other 25% comprised of accumulated lies. One can fool only a small “some” all of the time; “facts have a liberal bias” (as does history).
I don’t think bringing back the Fairness Doctrine will work unless we break up the big corporate media conglomerates.
That and we should rate pundits who make predictions on their accuracy. David Brook’s constant Bush gets no credit for the good economy comes to mind, so does the Friedman units.
Imagine a press that got paid by the media and for book deals in accordance with the accuracy of their previous predictions. Ann Coulter for example would have to pay publishers to publish her book.
Good morning, pups. It’s Roger Cohen and Paul Krugman in the NYT today. Mr. Cohen interviewed a general who wonders if we can win in Iraq while everybody’s at the mall, and Paul Krugman says that Friday’s dismal jobs report tells us that the Bush boom, such as it was, has run its course.

The coffee and tea are ready, and the biscuits are out of the oven. I’ve got to go and finish waking up and get myself ready for work. Have a good day.
Good Morning Marion. Thanks for the biscuits. Did you have a chance to read the comments above about the nukes that traveled across the country by mistake? Pretty scary stuff.
Good morning! Twas a lovely virtual party with Jane et al last night. Now let’s get to work.
I got the old wakefulness a few hours ago and instead of trying to calm myself about teaching another person’s agenda (required in one of my new part-time jobs – yes, I’m up to one full time and two part-time teaching gigs), I came to the Lake.
So I read through all the nuclear bomb posts and now I’m really not calm. But realized I need to get my “meet-up” plans with family back in the forefront; in other words, where we meet if home and communication systems are destroyed. We need them for tornadoes anyway.
And we do live in Lawrence, where The Day After was filmed.
Good Morning, Marion/Savannah, it’s 65 and clear in Fabulous Blue Ridge. Leftover pork chops and toast for breakfast. And Rain in the next few days, we hope…
Mornin’ Joe has Andy Card coming up because he’s, you know, such a nice regular white bread guy and he wouldn’t do or say anything that wasn’t the God’s honest truth because after all his wife’s a minister and he knows his commandments, him.
Yep. The same Andy Card who went to Ashcroft’s hospital intensive care room with ol’ Strongarm Gonzales. That Card. The Joker.
http://niemanwatchdog.org/inde…..isid=00295 This is an article from Nieman Watchdog about the nuclear missiles. Why isn’t this all over the news?
Good Morning!

Read Althespook’s comments up thread
In prep for the hearings, this is from Juan Cole
Scarecrow’s morning wisdom in the new thread.
Morning Cuppa Dog And Pony Shows
things come undone, I did read some of the posts from earlier and then I went to google news to see what else I could find. This is so frightening that I’m ready to stockpile supplies. How about you?
JPL @ 320
I bet Bush talked to the MainStreamMedia and threatened to cut off WhiteHouse access to any newsgroup that ran the story in order to prevent a Panic.
Or a loss of confidence in his leadership or the military.
Its not like the Army Times which your story is linked to is not a first rate source.
We should have Jane call the NY Times, the WallStreet Journal and USA Today to ask if they would confirm or deny that the White House asked them to kill or sit on this story untill after 9/11 or Bush gets his 50 billion for the war.
She should also asked if they were threatened in anyway if they ran with this story. So if we later find out they lied we got them on record as bowing head to the ground to the very power they should keep in check.
Maybe KO if he reads this could tug his ear during his broadcast as a sign that he is not allowed to report on this story.
Maybe we could start a daily countdown on how many days before the MSM runs this story.
JPL @ 325
I’m hoping that since the plot was uncovered the Whitehouse is afraid that AltheSpook’s friends will go public. We need to push the Media on this! But yes I’m nervous!
Guys, come upstairs, let’s talk about this with the other pups.
