The only thing I think the Beltway will respond to is for every one in the land to stand up and say that anyone who votes to continue the war in any way will be voted out in 2008.

no matter how much campaign money they raise.

No matter what party they belong to.

How do we manage that? People here can’t even get behind a no buy anything day. Say it will damage the middle class. Don’t see how. They don’t lose a day’s pay and they sit around doing nothing if the protest is successful. Somehow we have to do something other than talk, but no one wantsto discuss ways and means. I assume we generally are not ready yet. You will be happy to hear, I’m giving it a rest for a while.

As for the need for new organizational forms outside what passes for representative democracy, Walter Mosley has a short piece in the last Nation which reaches the same conclusion although he says it better. You can find his article at http://www.thenation.com/doc/20070910/mosley

“And when the Iraqis fought back - as sovereign people do when their homeland is invaded and brutalized, we labeled them terrorists and insurgents and hit them harder - never pausing to consider that Iraq is their country - not ours.”

RonD - sorry, I missed your question. Here’s a link to a very good account of the Westhuling case involving Petraeus. Others have not been so certain that it was suicide.

RonD, if you’re still here, I think this resolves our dispute. I judge the man based on his track record of accomplishment in iraq. you are judging him on intentions and pre-iraq actions, which are all good.

Apples and Oranges. I still think he got stars in his eyes, tho.

Siun…well stated. Thank you.

Iraq soon will enter into the fifth year of ongoing conflict betwixt Iraqi and Iraqi and betwixt Americans and Iraqis.

9/11 now has reached the sixth year mark since that terrible mornings attacks and high death tolls. Still the image of Americans jumping from WTC towers to certain death remains the most vivid and illustrative of the awfulness of 9/11.

Invading Iraq and occupying Iraq has now been fully wound into 9/11. This was not ever how events needed to proceed after 9/11.

Or should have.

G.W.Bush has led Americans into a terrible war and occupation in Iraq. Millions of Iraqis now have either been killed, suffered greatly in so many ways or become ME refugees.

All because of G.W.Bush.

Because of Dick Cheney.

Because of Donald Rumsfeld.

Because of people with last names like Kagan,Perle,Kristol,Ledeen,Feith and Wolfowitz.

War crimes have taken place in Iraq that took place due to Americans choices and conduct. To think otherwise is self-deceitful.

This is a shrouded deception all Americans must confront.American war crimes in Iraq. Set in motion in highest offices of WashDC. Against and in Iraq based on untruths and craven desires/goals,on illegal decisions and conduct.

This coming week more lies, untruths and the worst of spun wishful thinking will be thrown at the American people by their leaders and representatives in WashDC.

Something has gone very wrong in WashDC and unless or until WashDC is brought to heel over the lies, duplicity and moral/ethical failures and shortfalls it so readily has endorsed and endorses still in Iraq and other ME conflicts events in the ME will only become worse.

Why is finding profiles in courage and doing what is right being done so rare in WashDC?

Again Siun. Thanks to you and sites such as FDL we still may find a way out from this dark time in America.

The profiles in courage must be our own and doing what is right, fighting for what is right must be stated and forced to the fore.

WashDC needs to have its money power taken away and brought to submission. Unless and until the money power of WashDC is curbed and restricted in full measure little else will matter.

WashDC has become a monster.

This monster needs to be chained.

It is too late for Iraq and the Iraqi people.

Iran appears to be next in line incredible as that is in terms of stupid things to do in ME.

It comes down to the money. And stupidity.

Our current president,G.W.Bush is mascot to this twisted, perverse, deceitful way of thinking and conduct. But he is not alone.

American core media outlets continue to give G.W.Bush and his warmongering minions plenty of positive news spin and op-ed cover/support.

His party, the DC GOP has fully impaled itself on his stupidity.

The DC DEMS seem ever so inclined to do so as well.

All this quite incredible. And surely pathetic.

Unfortunately, like some many at his level in the pentagon, Betrayus is a shameless self promoter whose care for his troops is a disgusting abomination. He is a photo op press release general who lives on service to the people in power above him. We used to call people like him REMF’s cause they got so many people killed needlessly.

(hint: the first two words of REMF stand for Rear Echelon. I think you can guess the other two…)
Very familiar indeed with the term, first heard during my stint in the USAF…This is not a consensus opinion. Petraeus has been building a reputation for quite some time, as even I had heard about him some years ago, in positive terms. As to besmirching his honor…I would like to see the facts of the situation that make the General an “abomination”.

I think Siun may be better able to get it for you than me. I’m just going on what my friends in the business tell me; they are good people and I trust them and a number of them really, really hate Petraeus. (Did you know that is the name of a classical Centaur? And Centaurs were on the whole not nice folk? Weird conincidence if true.)

I’ll also try to get some blog posts maybe from main and central or iraqslogger.

Oh, I think one explanation may be the “old” and “new” Petraeus. At one time he was indeed a fine soldier and did well by himself and his men. That may have been when you heard about him. But at some point he got “E-ring-Itis”, the desperate hope for those four shiny stars, and the rest may have been history…again this is from hearsay, so i’ll try to get some facts.

Here’s his wiki entry. Note that he got those shiny four stars…

It’s General Froptraeus to you, Sir! After reporting to Congress, Petraeus is reporting to, you guessed it, Fox News. http://rawstory.com//news/2007....._0909.html The Fox hype machine must be churning out memos how to spin the most recent escalation and ongoing political collapse in Iraq as somehow not a failure. It’s not a civil war. Never use those words “civil” and “war” in the same sentence. They must be in separate paragraphs. In fact, the word war must only be used in the phrase “war on terror.” Duh. They think we are such morons.

After all this time, excuse after excuse after excuse from the Republicans and Fox noise, I and most others in America have had it. It’s time to stand up Democrats. It’s time to cut our losses before these incompetent Fox Republican officials and politicians get us in even deeper. It’s time to stop the frop horror show. Pull the plug. These frops have proven they are totally out of their league. They couldn’t run a high school government, much more the United States of America. Rah rah sis boom bah, goooooooooooooooo Surge! Yeah!

Yeah!
