Part IV of the Liberal Oasis podcast — this segment on Gitmo. It was an outgrowth of my interview with Sen. Tom Harkin earlier in the week. Huge thanks to Bill Scher!
Yesterday, I did an interview with Bill Scher of Liberal Oasis for his radio show and podcast. We had a great conversation on a number of topics including Iraq, holding Democratic politicians accountable, Blue America, the rule of law and Gitmo, among a whole lot of things. It was a great interview conversation.
I mentioned it yesterday, and several folks have e-mailed me wanting a listen — and Bill sent me the podcast in a series of YouTubes and also as an mp3 of the whole show. You can listen and/or watch the whole interview here at Liberal Oasis.

I like this Liberal Oasis radio. They’re getting added to my bookmarks.

Have listened to the whole show, well done!
Christy sounds just like a super hero to me…)

Norman Finklestein rocks and he sure has taken serious hits from the I-lobby for speaking truth to power.

Wow she sounds just like she does on the blog.
So has Liberal Oasis gone to radio exclusively or do they still do blogging? I had a hard time finding any new articles on their website. Sure is different than it used to be with 4 columns, and a funny green, IIRC.
Christy giving us hope and joining forces with other dedicated activist who have been committed to the outrageous Gitmo situation.
Just FYI, Selise put the link up to Christy on the podcasts at comment #38 on Phoenix Woman’s post this morning.

Finklestein would make a great guest here at FDL to talk about his resignation
I think part of the genius of Rove is that he understands Americans are more than willing to give up rights guaranteed by the Constitution.
I worry about not just repubs but also dems taking lessons from Rove in this regard.
Jonathan @ 22
That is a concern, and I suggest that those cowards be targeted with electorial challenges.
Jonathan @ 22
Rove didn’t think of anything new. These tools have been lying around from Machiavelli to Reifenstahl and Goebbels to Atwater and Rove. Industrial-scale PR and propaganda operations, used to “manufacture consent”. All it took was the will to pick up these weapons and use them.
Apparently Chuck Hagel is not going to run in ‘08.
Britain’s Channel 4 did a report on the torture techniques used at Gitmo
WARNING! VERY GRAPHIC

RonD @ 24
Right. I’ve got to keep reminding myself Rove is out of the same mold as Goebbels.
Most Americans don’t grasp that.
Not a criticism of those Americans.
Just an observation of one failure of our education system.
Loo Hoo. @ 25
Hi Loo Hoo!
Not quite sure what to make of this, other than Hagel recognizes that the R party is truly a party of its base, and the bulk of the party is going to follow the leadership. There is no support for an insurgent Republican, yet. Their thought-control mechanisms are still functioning adequately, it seems.
What do you think?

Question
Where are the intellectual elites of this country?
I’m not an intellectual. Just a pissed off citizen.
Jonathan @ 31
Going to work every day, hoping the eye of Big Brother doesn’t settle on them.
Jonathan @ 31
Unfortunately, the intellectual elites of this country have been marginalized through constant spouting of the refrains of the right wing that critical thinking and actually doing things like reading and understanding history were bad things to be avoided.

How sad a comment (I believe it’s true) on the nature of human beings.
That a good, well-informed mind can be intimidated by a good, evil-intentioned mind.
Jonathan @ 22
Does this mean that you’d be afraid that if Hillary becomes President she won’t even try to fix any of the broken Constitution or the shattered Bill of Rights provisions, but will instead use them to her best advantage? If so, I think I’m with you on that, since I saw her so willing to sponsor a bill to make flag-burning illegal. As far as I’m concern, this broadcast her willingness to give away other civil liberties along with freedom of expression.
Well, we’ve come full circle. Now we’re back to talking about the lesser of two evils, because if Hillary wins the nomination, that’s what I think we’ll have. I think she’s one of the candidates most likely to do anything for power. I’m not sure about money, except as it applies to her next election. To me, Hillary is all about power.

They are there but their voices are often drowned out by the bigots who call them elite MA liberals, dirty hippies, and traitors.
Disgusting ain’t it?
It’s clear that the ONLY thing the repubs have going for them is illegal immigration.
Please! This is not a new problem. We have been coping with it for generations. It will not go away. Ever.
Personally, I’m not worried about it, but then I’m not afraid of those brown people invading my country.
Walls are NOT for democratic countries. It disgusts me to no end that my country is building one.
Christy,
You need to run for the House or, better yet, the Senate.
I’m retiring in 5 years.
I’ll be pissed, have a lot of energy, and have time on my hands.
I’ll work for you.
Jonathan @ 34
I cannot judge a person who chooses the safe route. As a parent, one has an obligation to avoid heroic flameouts, at least until the kids are grown. Whatever, like the song says, gets one thru the night. People have to live in such a way as makes the most sense to them.
Moral courage is much easier when one has nothing else to lose, and inspiration will find fertile soil in which to grow.

I was 25. Single. No responsibilities.
I could just say fuck it and go off to experience first-hand the big deal of the day.
I was looking for the experience. I didn’t support the war.
I truly believe most people just want one more (relatively) peaceful day, and will tolerate almost anyone or anything that seems to promise that. Especially those trying to prep their kids to survive in a world gone mad on money, ignorance, and terror.
Iraq power-sharing still elusive despite surge
Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds drift further apart as U.S. battles insurgents
BAGHDAD – The U.S. military buildup has brought some relief from bombs and bullets to Baghdad’s battered people. But so far, it has failed at its overarching purpose — getting Iraqis to agree to the political compromises that U.S. commanders themselves believe crucial to a lasting peace.
Pax Americana.
Finished listening-great interview, Christy. You know what? I wish I had a Rep or a Sen that takes your stands.
You should run for office. You are exactly the kind of public servant we desperately need in these dangerous times.
I will work for you in whatever capacity you would like.
And I suspect I’m not alone.
OKK
Why don’t school systems try to attract and then reward talented and dedicated teachers like you?
What are the politics?
Sixty Something @ 39
Now, see, here’s where I see a problem. In my first year of college, one of my courses required us to buy and read “The Population Bomb.” That was in the seventies. In the nineties, in a course on critical thinking, they talked at length about how we are exceeding “the carrying capacity of the earth.” Yet now, we have politicians and clergymen openly advising white folk to go forth and multiply, prolifically, I might add, lest they become a minority. Then there’s global warming, which seems to be diminishing the land area we, as a species, can occupy, much less farm, etc. For an intelligent biological form, we sure don’t seem to learn very much, IMHO.
New thread upstairs.
Brilliant, Christy. Now I’ve got to listen to the whole thing.
Christy. You there?
You’ve got mail ;->
Love Christy but that sure is boring television! To the point of getting in the way of the message. Would play better as a simple mp3 file. Just my 2 cents…
