(Photo of Gen. Patraeus and President Bush via AFP/File/Jim Watson.)
Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright has a scathing op-ed in the WaPo this morning, in which she says: "Our troops face death every day; the least the president can do is face the truth."
That would be swell, if I thought he knew what the meaning of truth was. But given his penchant for jiggering the numbers (easy to do when you keep them classified), and after reading Sidney Blumenthal's latest, I sincerely doubt that the man even cares about being honest -- either with himself or any of the folks around him. Before they trot out Gen. Patraeus for the political dodge and phony show (and his very best Colin Powell "good soldier" impression), everyone needs to take a long look at Sydney's article. To wit:
Both the French intelligence service and the CIA paid Sabri hundreds of thousands of dollars (at least $200,000 in the case of the CIA) to give them documents on Saddam's WMD programs. "The information detailed that Saddam may have wished to have a program, that his engineers had told him they could build a nuclear weapon within two years if they had fissible material, which they didn't, and that they had no chemical or biological weapons," one of the former CIA officers told me....
The next day, Sept. 18, Tenet briefed Bush on Sabri. "Tenet told me he briefed the president personally," said one of the former CIA officers. According to Tenet, Bush's response was to call the information "the same old thing." Bush insisted it was simply what Saddam wanted him to think. "The president had no interest in the intelligence," said the CIA officer. The other officer said, "Bush didn't give a fuck about the intelligence. He had his mind made up."
This brings to mind something that James Fallows wrote the other day:
...the most plausible explanation for the otherwise bewildering chain of errors was the personal dynamics of the people at the top. The darkness of Cheney, the ideological cocksureness of Wolfowitz and operational cocksureness of Rumsfeld, the careerism of Tenet, the pliancy of Rice and (for different reasons) Powell. And, transcending them all, the magical combination of certainty and lack of curiosity of the man at the top...
Nothing like being certain even when you are utterly and completely wrong, is there? Especially when it is other people's children who are dying for your lies and certitude. But what does President Short Attention Span (and apparently incurious delusional idiocy) care when there's a BBQ to attend, thrown in honor of the "meat guy."
Emptywheel has a couple of theories that are well worth the discussion on this. In the meantime, I need some coffee. These people make me ill, and I need fortification from the utterly disgusted feeling in the pit of my stomach.
While you are waiting on the refill, the Speaker's blog has some video clips up of testimony from yesterday's hearing on the GAO findings on Iraq. And Eric Boehlert has a great piece on how the media spent its summer vacation (hint: they aren't going to like their grade). Greg Mitchell at E&P has some similar thoughts, and Atrios has visuals.
Jeebus. Perhaps Pickles has some painkillers to spare for the blossoming headache I get from contemplating her husband's many failures...she may need them after reading this.
PS -- RIP to a great voice, Lucianno Pavarotti has passed away. His performances always transfixed me as a child watching him on PBS, and this performance from Puccini's Nessun Dorma (YouTube) is a great example of why.

Christy!!
Morning all. How’s tricks?
This is the closest I’ll ever get to a zed. *g*
Mornin’ Christy and firepups.
Requiescat in pace, Lucianno.
Hi Christy! It does take an iron stomach for this. And, unfortunately, the beat goes on.
G’mornin’
(((((((Christy!)))))))
Morning! How was it that I knew there were no WMD, that Powell was not giving the UN good information and all this though I did not have the “benefit” of Congressional hearings?
Washington, DC is a bubble. These people need to get out more.
Saturday we are going to talk on the radio about what to do to try to get the Democrats to stand up so the troops can stand down.
Pavarotti, RIP. There’s a loss, dear God.
Mornin’ Christy!
And as we all know from experience Little Boots has never done even “the least that he could do.” Way too much trouble for him to worry his itty-bitty mind over
dakine at 10 — It is a sort of conundrum as to what you can do working around him, isn’t it? SIGH
If we had a real news media, they would be discussing the nukes over Iowa by mistake story. Does anyone else feel as though they have been living in the magical world of IF?
Where did
“None so blind as those who refuse to see” come from?
Would sum up so much except when
“Someone has all the answers and doesn’t leave any answers for anybody else”
which mostly takes up the rest.
I miss having Madeline Albright at Foggy Bottom, and I suspect a lot of the older career folks do, too.
(emphasis added)
Some folks, like many who work at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, think all that diplomats can do is spout wishy-washy platitudes. Those who have ever heard or read Sec. Albright know better.
The phrase “speaking truth to power” comes to mind.
christy - here’s something that might make you smile a bit. amy goodman moderated a conference last night on the environment with, among others, george schultz. this morning (on democracy now!) she’s played several clips - and george schultz’s reactions to her questions are a hoot. god forbid someone in the media would ask serious questions and expect serious answers without sucking up. it’s a great thing to see - usually i listen to the podcast, but today i recommend the video (on link tv or by webcast).
amy goodman is my hero - everyday she shows what the news can be.
(rubs sleepy little eyes) coffee is brewing gang - help yourself…
540am seems awful early when you been sleeping in all summer…
Not to worry, Gen. Patraeus is a “straight-shooter guy”, he’ll give us the real story. I know, a little late, but thank God we will finally get the truth. It really was a brilliant move for the Dems to keep their powder dry on Iraq. (I may have this a little wrong, but am sure Fred Hiatt and David Broder will explain it all to me in due course.)
selise at 15 — Oh, bless you. I’ll take a peek. I just got through reading Taylor’s take on Katie Couric — it’s thoroughly irritating. I could do with a healthy dose of skepticism…
No excuse for Congress.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/.....-2004Apr26
After reading emptywheels take on things, I’m left wondering why Tenet kept his mouth shut and never brought it up again. Idiot. Surely he knew as the “intelligence” guy he was going to get blamed.
dov at 19 — Oh, there is definitely a helluva lot of blame to spread around the Beltway, that’s for sure…
Check out A Tiny Revolution’s September 5th post on “The Iron Law of Institutions” for a concise look at why the Dems are making you crazy. Check out the potential remedies, especially point # 2. This is what needs to happen to the Bush Dogs.
Note that the post suggests potential action, something that a lot more posts could use. Observations are fine, but continuing to provide guidance on action (Blue America, Bush Dogs, etc.) is better. If “Magic September” turns out as badly as it’s looking, progressives will need to translate their anger into those actions - after all, if less than 30% of the electorate can run the country to ruin, what’s saying the 30% DFHs can’t redeem it…

Is it any wonder France didn’t come on board?
OOO, “dodge and pony show” I like it!
bg @ 8
Speaking from Washington, this is absolutely correct. It all looks like spectator sports from here. Your congressmen need to hear from YOU.
can we PUH LEEEZE get this guy before congress, under oath to tell the American people this…and then get tenet under oath to confirm or deny the account
and we puhleeze?
and when that happens, CAN WE PUHLEEZE PURCHASE AIR TIME TO BROADCAST THE TESTIMONY IN PRIME TIME
can we please?
the man is a criminal, if this is true that is murder…murder of the American men and women in the military and murder of the Iraqi people he tortures and kills each and every day
we need to start spenind the dnc’s assets where it counts
and where it counts is in educating the American people what this president has done to them and our country
let’s point out as well, our dollar will soon go the way of the greenback during viet nam…inflation will become unbearable
we really need to invest whatever dollars we have right now while they are worth as much as they will ever be worth again for inflation will surely deminish the value
time to do what needs to be done…educate the rest of the country…educate them during prime time, take out adds, MAKE THEM LEARN
they will learn you know, we only have to make sure they see it
off to work
christy, a great morning piece let me tell you
c all L8tr
Christy!
Pickles ditched because of “the physical therapy she is getting for a neck injury from hiking”?
Yeah, hiking, that’s the ticket.
Why did the American people get it so wrong? Why did we as a country pick bush in 2000 and 2004?
I can’t figure it.
Sure, stolen votes and piss-poor campaigns by his opponents.
But it shouldn’t have even been close either time.
Best I can speculate is that he said clearly (even if dishonestly) who he was and what his positions were. Yes, he’s a moronic psychopath, but Americans thought they knew who he was.
I think a lot of Americans never got as clear cut an image of Gore oor Kerry.
Maybe that’s what Americans want from a prez candidate, a sharply defined image.
Nola Sue @ 27
Whole new meaning of “Pacific Rim”.
Jonathan @ 28
I remember seeing bush on airforce one and he was absolutely certain he had the election in the bag
we know as a fact tens of thousands of voters were prevented from voting, we know as a fact there were more votes then voters in precincts that favored bush
and we know as a fact the exit polls said kerry won
this amounts to 100’s of 1000’s of votes
not an easy task to overcome those numbers…especially given the fact that corporate media made it look to the American public like there was actually a split on who we wanted for president
there wasn’t a split, it was clear we voted for kerry
Sometimes I think Bush’s brain is being affected by Global Dimming.
Wilson at 22: linky please?
ccmask @ 31
hey! you got coffee all over my keyboard!
Wilson — We do action all the time. Read back from yesterday’s posts…and all the ones in the “citizen action” topic subheading for starters.
All the going on and on about Bush is fruitless. I have heard many bloggers say he is a sociopath … and I agree.
Sociopaths cannot change. And Bush is no exception.
That is why it makes me steaming mad that “impeachment is off the table.” NOTHING will change … and so much more harm can be done in the next year.
I frankly don’t CARE if he faces war crime trials at a later time … same for Cheney, etc. Get them out NOW.
One more heartbreaking story. Yes, enough to be sick. Christy is so clear and powerful as a wonderful example of Truth…even when it’s so hard to take, the Truth really is palliative just for being the Truth. Why have people protected this lying jerk? There are no good options for the current mess: an honest pushback would be a great start.
ccmask @ 31
707!!
No matter how much crap is revealed on the Bushies, all we ever hear is forget about the past, we are where we are & let’s find a way forward. The press & the pundits let them get away with this. There are not enough voices appalled by this lack of accountability.
Nola Sue @ 27
give-er-a-break. at least she’s consistent, unlike some.

whoosh! barely saved by your warning. Thanks.
-workin’ my way thru the comments backwards, for some reason this a.m. m.o.r.e. c.o.f.f.e.e.
From Sidney B’s piece:
If I were a senior military invasion planner and found out I’d been not just cut out of the loop on something like this but actively lied to, I’d be rather upset. At least.
Based on everything we know now, Petraeus 2007 will be Powell 2003–a PR speech to sell a war on the basis of lies.
That first paragraph was Sidneys; the second one is mine.
Preview is my friend.
[Mod: fixed]
Sorry guys. I should have said Global Dumming.
Yowser Christy what a info packed piece. Thanks!
Madeline Albright, Iaea’s El Baradei, Scott Ritter, Brzezinski, Carter, General Zinni, General Clark and so many fore warned of a disaster in Iraq, questioned the validity of the intelligence and tried their best to support the completion of the Iaea’s ongoing inspection process in Iraq. Alas the zealots won out with their lies, and hundreds of thousands are now dead, injured and milions of Iraqi people are refugees. This tragedy does make one sick to ones stomach, mind and soul.
What our Reps did on their summer vacations.
The last few mornings on C-Spans Washington Journal I feel like I am sitting in a classroom listening to children share what they did on their summer vacation. Rep after Rep tell us that they went to Iraq during the month of August. It is just shameful that they did not do their fucking homework before the pre-emptive invasion of Iraq which many of us knew then (because many experts were telling us) was based on a “pack of lies”
Have any of these Reps. visited any of the Iraqi hospitals, or any of the million Iraqi refugees, which we are responsible for? I doubt it.
Where are the plans for the middle east conference that Zbigniew Brzezinski called for over two years ago and one of the recommendations the Iraq Study Group included in their report?
Christy Hardin Smith @ 18
i can’t watch katie couric. blech!

… and yesterday there was a good interview with anthony romero.

Christy & Jane: WRT Frank33’s video @50, did you catch Joe Lieberman having at grand ole gop time laughing about the missing weapons? They really know how to support the troops, don’t they? I know the video has been around a long time, but what a great video to show with Have You Had Enough, isn’t it? Just good ole Joe & Bush laughing at families in our country destroyed by this war. Egads.
Comeon, Peterr. hup hup… ;->
Peterr @ 57
Oh, duh. I said something yesterday and got one of those and I didn’t know if I should duck or what!

Jonathan @ 28
You can say electronic voting machines flipped the votes, which they probably did. You can also say suspected Democratic voters were kept from voting. That does not explain the aftermath of the 2006 election and Democratic actions as a majority in the house.
Today’s NYT says the Dems are offering Repubs new compromises on the war as if you can do business with Repubs.
That, of course, is the nub of it. We deal in expectations which turn out to be true or false, which get replaced by other expectations garnered from experience, hope or whatever. Some, like Chicken Little and me, say the sky is falling. Let’s try to do something about it. Others say this, too, shall pass. We will know which is right soon enough.
As for MSM it’s a dead duck. I doubt it will ever return to anything worthwhile. Somehow we have to turn blogs into something more than preaching to the choir, a place where people go for information they can trust. Something like the Daily Show.
Diane @ 38
We were hearing this Republican and Democratic theme song when the Iraq Study Group came out with their recommendations. “Time to Move On”. Reps on both sides are continuing to repeat this song. What a bunch of horse crap. Both parties know they are responsible for this tragedy and are terrified they may be held to account at the next election( that is if it is an election)
Did we ever witness the completion of Phase II of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence? Remember the fourth or fifth section of that investigation was being delayed, diverted, diluted. We have yet to witness Feith, Wurmser, Rhode, Cheney and others involved with the creation and dessimination of false pre-war intelligence held accountable.
Time to move on folks, nothing here, does not matter how we got into Iraq. Now all that matters to these “cakewalk in Iraq” crazies is how they will drag (repeat unsubstantiated claims over and over about Iran …Deja Vu doo doo) the American public along when they pre-emptively attack Iran.
ccmask @ 58
speaking of lieberman… there’s going to be a (rare) hearing this afternoon of his senate committee on homeland security. i don’t know if there will be an audio feed available, but i don’t intend on listening. i’ve HAD ENOUGH of lieberman.
Read Sunday’s Times on how the base feels about the GOP candidates … best one poor dumb fool can come up with is that he likes Romney because he looks presidential.
And Bush is not a sociopath. He is a delusional and pathological narcissist. There is a difference. The latter sends people to their deaths … the former handles it personally.
Tom Toles on the Iraq report! Funny!
Sorry for the OT, but seeing the number of Georgia Firepups at the tail end of the las thread - are any of y’all going to the Allman Brothers show at Peidmont Park this weekend?
‘Dodge and phony’ show?… heh heh heh… is that original? I hope so. it’s excellent…
yes… I see C&L has Nessun Dorma up in respect of Pavarotti… nicely done… and in the comments there are a few other links to some of Luciano’s beautiful work… I, in fact, linked to a passage from I Pagliacci… we all gotta go sometime… but it always leaves a mark when the really great ones exit…
I think the Republican base are mostly Fox news viewers & fundies. The Fox News viewers are mostly elderly people who are not online and get their daily dose delivered to their living rooms everyday (like me mom.) Unfortunately for us, these are the ones who take their right to vote very seriously. They plan car pools and make a day of it. They proudly sport their “I Voted” stickers after the vote dining on early bird specials. I’ve been at a Boca Raton condo for the event and I’m telling you, it is a big to-do. But sadly, they are getting older and each year more are unable to get to the polls and some die. Their base is shrinking every year. Americans did not vote Bush into office, which is why he has had such a hard time from the beginning. It’s nice to become president but not under the circumstances of a fake election. We cannot change the voting system with the GOP in office.
I remember during the 2000 campaign Jesse Jackson said “stay out of the Bushes” - I’ll never forget that quote. Damn, look where we are now.
The Australians have the right idea on protests:
Bums not Bombs. Maybe we need our own “Blue Moon” in this country.
Uh-ho!
Syria: Air defenses fired at Israeli aircraft over our airspace
ccmask @ 74 - those Fox News fundies don’t seem too happy with the Repub candidates, they preferred Ron Paul during the debate last night by 33%. I’ll bet that was an eye opener for Sean Hannity.
I am still on that damn email list, but good news anyway.
I really miss Molly Ivins. She believed that we needed to have some fun along with the serious.
I think she would have approved of the Australians planning to moon our clueless leader today…they hope to have 2000 people dropping their pants in his honor. Too bad he will probably be protected from seeing any bare bottoms.
I think she would have approved of the crazy clowns deflating a bunch of klans kooks in Nashville(?). As the kooks shouted ‘white power’, they shouted back, ‘white flour?’.
Maybe media would air protests if people did drop their pants! I have a visual in my head of butt cheeks with the word ‘impeach’.
From the way Petraeus is gazing at his Commander-in-Chief, I would have to call it a bad case of puppy-love.
No good can come of this.
Another good general “down the tubes,” to borrow a phrase from officer Karsnia.
bg at 32 - http://www.tinyrevolution.com/mt/
chs at 34 - FDL is a leader in action and advocacy and has provided me with some good focus on writing the pols and contributing. More of an overall comment about channeling what’s sure to be some upcoming frustration.
A lot to digest in this piece Christy. Thanks for the hard work. When are we going to get MSM doing this kind of work?
Er, from Moveon. Tangentially related.
And incredibly compelling. They need the testimony of more troops.
Jeff Gannon (posted today on his blog) on Larry Craig & Mike Rogers outing gay Republicans:
My own experience with Rogers came in April 2005 following an appearance at the National Press Club. I participated in a panel discussion that dealt with the issue of “Who is a journalist?” Gay activists protested my inclusion in the event since one of their representatives would not be on the panel to further their smear campaign against me. At the conclusion of the event, Rogers rushed the speakers’ table screaming slanderous accusations at me. Security had already been alerted to specific threats of violence and whisked me out a side door. However, Rogers was waiting in the lobby and aggressively lunged at me again, jumping onto the elevator with me. Security pulled me out as the doors closed and I left the building through another exit. Meanwhile, Rogers reached the first floor of the building and scuffled with security guards who would not allow him to return to the club floor. Subsequently, Mike Rogers was banned FOR LIFE from the National Press Club premises.
Such is the behavior of the Angry Gay Left. For them to achieve their radical goals, no tactic is off the table. Perhaps that is why Rogers is so paranoid about anyone finding out where he lives, fearing he may someday have to take what he dishes out to others. As I wrote in The Great Media War: A Battlefield Report, the Angry Gay Left is a “vicious and conflicted” group. Their zeal comes from a blinding hatred for anyone who opposes them. Gay activists cloak themselves in victimhood, yet strike out against perceived enemies with a shrill ferocity that is hysterical – in every sense of the word.
ccmask @ 85
Isn’t it interesting how many righties like to refer to the ‘angry left’ while spitting out tons more bile themselves. That Gannon’s a class act alright.
Diane @ 78
Well, Hannity has been a little busy with his freedom concert on 9/11. I would prefer Ron Paul too :))

Judy, Judy, Judy is going to be speaking about freedom of the press at my local university on Nov. 7. I can hardly wait. If I don’t have to work that night, I will go.
The aspens will be turning color about then. I could ask her something about that. hehe. Then, I will promptly be led away by the ultra-conservative enforcement types here in my great city [yak!]

WRT the Freedom concert:
Take a look at who Hannity invited to appear on stage with him Rudy,Joe Lieberman, Newt, Laura Ingraham, Ann Coulter, Curtis Sliwa, Mark Levin, Ollie North! Boortz isn’t on the list, probably because he couldn’t find another American Flag, to have made into a shirt! Oh ya, a couple of burned-out singing groups from Branson, will be entertaining, if their rented Greyhound Bus doesn’t break down three or four times, driving up here.

I’ve read that Israel is proparing for an attack against Syria and Hezbollah. I’ve also heard that one or both of them have obtained some fancy new Russian antiaircraft weaponry. (It sounds like Israel is probing that new hardware.)
Christy quotes James Fallows:
…the most plausible explanation for the otherwise bewildering chain of errors was the personal dynamics of the people at the top. The darkness of Cheney, the ideological cocksureness of Wolfowitz and operational cocksureness of Rumsfeld, the careerism of Tenet, the pliancy of Rice and (for different reasons) Powell. And, transcending them all, the magical combination of certainty and lack of curiosity of the man at the top…
Reading that, I can’t help but think that if Mr. Fallows had read the articles at whatreallyhappened and counterpunch back in late 2002 and early 2003, he would have known that well over five years ago, like a lot of us here did.
My favorite Pavorotti was his Rodolfo in Puccini’s La Boheme, followed by his tenor solos in Verdi’s Requiem in the Canadian performance given right after 9/11.
ET at 106 — If you read the whole of Fallows piece, and not just the tiny segment I quoted, you’ll see that he did. *g*

Hillary advisor: She had no clue.
Jonathan @ 28
Good morning everyone.
I can’t get over how disheartened you sound lately, Jonathan. It bothers me. Kind of like seeing cognitive dissonance playing itself out in someone.
We have that common Vietnam experience which, I think, gave us a head start on cynicism when it comes to trusting those who would claim to lead us.
If you look at the 2004 Ohio numbers in the context that many of them were inflated and extrapolate that to other localities the numbers of people who actually voted for Bush aren’t as large as they are made out to be. Then there’s the outright meddling, the unconstitutional meddling by the Supreme Court in a decision that was blatantly stretching the limits of credulity. Read that thing and then look at Bennett’s pleadings in the case…he didn’t even plead correctly but given the argument he put forward, the justices were constrained in how they ruled and what they ruled on.
I keep myself centered on how these people are operating by continually going back over books I have on Stalin and his manipulation of public perception. Here’s a guy who was murdering millions of the Russian people, people were seeing their neighbor’s taken away in the middle of the night, and the people truly loved him. Fawning bureaucrats aside, people loved him. It wasn;t until 1956 that many of them learned a limited bit of the truth about him. We’ll be lucky to ever see documentary proof of how over the top the administrations of Reagan/Bush, Bush/Quayle, or Cheney/Bush really are.
Or look at Richard Evans’ excellent books on the Third Reich. He’s written two books of a planned trilogy on the history of the rise of the Third Reich from the end of WWI through the Weimar Republic up to the declaration of war against Germany after the invasion of Poland 68 years ago.
These people are performing according to a script. They have a good grasp on how to get to some people with carefully crafted lies and that’s all they need. They use the tools the right has always used of calling their opponents names and painting them with the disloyalty brush while telegraphing to the general population that they really care for the country and its people all the while pillaging the treasury and sending other peoples’ kids off to die.
Stalin had Trotsky and the fascists as his boogeymen; Hitler had the Jews and the communists; Cheney/Bush uses bin Laden and the terrorists the same way. Stalin even invented a word in Russian to spread fear among the people “terakt” meaning terrorist act.
There are many reasons to be resigned to what’s going on here as never changing. I’ve felt that way myself. But when I remember that it was guys like Bush and his dad and Cheney and Rumsfeld who left me and my team to die out by Laos and that some pilot decided fuck no you won’t, I know that I won’t let these fascist creeps win this battle.
And it’s is a battle…the same battle I was fighting with the Young Republican assholes before I went to Vietnam and they went to law school. Until we in this country finally resolve the issues that have separated us since the Sixties we’ll continue to be divided and conquered by the protofascists in the GOP and the Democratic Party.
Now where’s that smile??
Need a laugh?
I’ve always said they knew all along there were no WMDs and that Tenet’s slam dunk comment referred to how it would play in the press (whether the electorate would buy it).
So she’s called “Pickles” because satirical Betty Bowers talked about how she teaches the womenfolk how to pleasure their men once a year? I thought maybe she was called Pickles because she’s pickled in a brine of meds.
Anyway, this is the first time I’ve heard the nickname, and I read tons of political blogs all the time.
You shouldn’t just assume that because you’ve heard something everyone else has. I can’t be the only person who had to repeatedly re-read your reference to Pickles, and then had to search Google after saying “Huh?”
Madeleine Albright is great at facing the truth.
Confronted with UNESCO evidence that the Clinton/Gore/Albright enforced U.N. (Bush 1) sanctions were responsible for the deaths of 350-500,000 Iraqui children she said, ‘It was worth it.’
3 cheers for Madeleine Albright’s ‘truthiness.’
Bush always seeks out the least he can do, and does even less.
Look, how many times do the smart people have to say this?
INTEL DOES NOT MAKE POLICY.
Policy comes first, and then intel either supports it or is ignored.
Bush and Cheney WANTED TO INVADE IRAQ. They didn’t make a horrible mistake about anything. They ignored intel that DIDN’T SUPPORT THEIR POLICY.
To say Bush is stupid is to let him off the hook. That’s one thing I really don’t like about the lefty progressive liberal folks: They don’t smell the blood in the water here.
Wake up: You live in an empire.

Dangers of a Cornered George Bush By Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity & Dr. Justin Frank July 27, 2007
Editor’s Note: As the nation and the world face 18 more months of George W. Bush’s presidency, a chilling prospect is that Bush – confronted with more defeats and reversals – might just “lose it” and undertake even more reckless military adventures.

“Hillary has no clue.”
I could write something, but it just sorta stands all by itself, doesn’t it?
Pickles has a headache, but he’s in Australia right now.
Pavarotti has died. What a shame. The ‘big man’ is gone forever. Thank God we have digital media, so we can continue to hear a lot of great music from bygone eras.
Reading the Dr’s piece affirms all the worst suppositions. We have a crazed, immature, sadistic Pres. What will be the Congressional approach to rein him in? The Big Fool says, Move On. I hope our Congressional minds have heard enough on break to be very wary and forceful. There’s enough report stuff to argue anything; but the voice of the public is more unified. It is telling that all these people like Justice Roberts, Bremer, and Tenet are call him out on all his lies; surely we are paying attention when his lies are costing us the lives of our kids.
