My apologies for responding to my own comment, but the more I think about this, the more upset I get.

IMHO, the Bush administration MUST be brought to justice, the whole lot of them. Impeachment no longer suffices. But now I see that they are going to come at us with Goldsmith’s variant of the Nuremberg defence. They’ll say, “I was acting in good faith on assurances of White House counsel that what I was doing was legal.” And, I hope that those word go down in infamy alongside “I was just following orders.”

Shocking isn’t it, that they would resort to something so juvenile?

The Powell/Rice plan (approved by Bush) was to have both Bremer and Khalilzad go to Iraq at the same time – Khalilzad to set up an Iraqi-style loya jirga (select gov’t from the bottom up). At the last minute, Khalilzad was sent to the Netherlands as ambassador. What happened? Bremer had lunch with Bush and said “we can’t have 2 representatives of the Pres in Iraq”. So Bush changed the plan, at lunch, without consulting anyone else.

Bremer & Bush – equally stupid, arrogant and egotistical.

That’s step-off-the-edge-into-freefall feeling in your head and your guts. Unless you are planning to keep them at home forever, it has to happen. Its gets easier, mostly. Just know its not the last time you’ll tumble into space, if you are doing your job right then there’s more to come.

Thank you for your comments yesterday. Next door, bigmomma returned in the afternoon – apparently had been away for a couple of days. Looks as if she’s strongly taking charge, so maybe things will settle down. She’s a sweet lady, but has her hands full, poor thing.

I might have the courage to take some fresh ripe tomatoes over there from our garden now. ;->
