That can be the only logical explanation. Well, that, or that Senator Craig is simply an insatiable slut, at least when it comes to embarrassment, humiliation, and media shit-storms.
From the AP via the Hartford Courant:
BOISE, Idaho – Sen. Larry Craig is reconsidering his decision to resign after his arrest in a Minnesota airport sex sting and may still fight for his Senate seat, his spokesman said Tuesday evening.
Do what, now? Are you kidding me?
Craig, a Republican who has represented Idaho in Congress for 27 years, announced Saturday that he intends to resign from the Senate on Sept. 30. But since then, he’s hired a prominent lawyer to investigate the possibility of reversing his plea, his spokesman said.
Well, hot damn. I can’t think of a single recent news item that has filled me with such delight as Larry Craig’s decision not to, er, keep his head down.
In fact, I’m thrilled that Craig has decided to stay in the fight. I am even going to go so far as to pro-actively endorse his ‘08 Senate run. I know that on the whole, we Lefty bloggers have refrained from (ahem) full-throated endorsements for ‘08, but this is one campaign that I can wholeheartedly, um…get behind.
For you see, I just don’t feel like we’ve had quite enough fun with this story. Absolutely nothing on god’s green earth would provide me with more material on a nightly basis than a long, drawn-out public fight where Senator Craig tries to convince the world that his decades of well-documented cocksucking were all “a misunderstanding”.
There are so many things to love about this story. Just think of the campaign slogan contests we can have, “Larry Craig for Senate: Only Queer for Married Guys!”, or even just further anthropological exploration of the dank, furtive demimonde where men like Craig get their jollies servicing other people’s husbands.
As a gay man who came out as a teenager, all this Restroom Leg Syndrome, “wide stance” foot-tapping, and anonymous solicitation is a world entirely outside of my experience. It’s like finding out that you have distant relatives who are adherents to some freaky cult. “Really? They do what?! Tell me more!”
The most amazing thing about Senator Craig’s decision not to go gently into that good night, however, is the damage that he is willingly inflicting upon the Republican Party. Every day that he stays in the public eye, he becomes more of a (burning) albatross around Mitch McConnell’s neck. We apparently have Arlen (“This is a Terrible Problem and Something Must Be Done Right Away, Except for the One Thing That Would Actually Make a Difference”) Spector to thank for Senator Craigslust’s abrupt decision to install a revolving door on his personal closet. Thank you, Arlen. If you weren’t such a putz I would be tempted to think you’re doing God’s work for us liberals. But I know better.
Thank you, God, for making Senator Craig as stupid and crazy as a sprayed roach. For sharp-tongued satirists like me, there could be no greater gift than a conservative gay-bashing Republican senator who pleads guilty to soliciting anonymous sex from an undercover cop…and then goes on the TeeVee insisting that he’s NOT GAY.
Clearly, I’ve been a very, very good boy this year.

Hey, Betsy, how did it go today?
Wanna bet that Senator Specter is getting the ass-chewing (sorry for the pun *g*) of his life now from Senator McConnell and company?

Where the heck is everybody?
If Lieberman had to deal with “The Kiss” float, what, pray tell, would Larry Craig have to deal with?
did someone tell downstairs?

Paramedics to the diving tank, stat!
What sort of divery is this, anyway?
Go, Larry, go! Don’t take this sitting down! Now is the time to scream loud and long!
There’s always room for fuckery.
See? Not an armor plated elbow in sight! They were all petite, dainty and sharp!

A wide-stance … err, I meant wide-track Pontiac?
We await that Larry Craig float travelling around in the Idaho campaign. Should be adorable.
Woo Hoo, finally got one!
As usual, bringing the funny, Trex. But I can’t help but think that this is just another bright, shiny object. Yes, it is embarassing and spotlights the hypocracy of the GOP in a most glaring fashion. But with the Petraeus, whoops, White House report comming out soon, I can’t help but think that having this in the news will blunt the impact of just how bad things are in Iraq and how completely the surge is failing. Not to mention KO’s pointing out what a blantant. bald-faced liar (who knew?) the chimperor is.
I think that republicans mostly need to get a life.
OW, Suzanne!
You don’t need to bellyflop to make a gopper pucker. You just need a… oh, OK.

Larry Craig kissed Joe Lieberman?
Hooie, TRex, both barrels blazing…!!! ;-)
EvilDrPuma @ 23
No, he kissed Susan Collins. Larry was busy elsewhere.
EvilDrPuma @ 23
Um… kissed. yep.
Larry can carry the spotlight for all the “not gay” GOP as they continue to fall out of the closet. Nothing like keeping the narrative going as it is punctuated by future gay sex scandals. Plus it keeps the spotlight off the straight sex non-scandals…
Evening all. In fine form again tonight TRex. I have to agree that Craig is definitely the gift that keeps on giving. I must say, as the house cultural anthropologist, that there are some subjects which I really do not want to investigate. Ever. The details of Larry Craig’s sordid, adulterous love life are fairly high on that list. Having said that, I know people in the profession who do study that kind of thing (most of them work with AIDS prevention programs).
Larry Craig kissed Joe Lieberman?

Is it true that Larry Craig hired Michael Vick’s lawyer?
Suzanne @ 29
Well, Lieberman kissed Bush, he’ll kiss anybody.
Go for it, Larry! I feel a groundswell! You can win, man! It would be a big mistake for the Republican Party to let you resign now, just when things are starting to go your way. Many of us here want to help you. Keep going, and going, and going, Larry — we love you!

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) – U.S. Senator Ted Stevens says he believes the worst of global climate change may be over.
Stevens says the Earth is at the end of a long warming period, perhaps as much as 700 to 900 years.
He says that if the Earth is close to the end of that, it means the planet will start getting cooler gradually.

well.. Craig can always try to swiftboat the police officer… or, better yet, start attacking Vitter.
Dear Senator Notgay,
‘forget about that thing about better angels of our nature… or whatever nonsense… you want revenge. Give in to the dark side. Revenge is good.’
This is clearly the right thing for him to do. What kind of job can he hope to get if he resigns? But if he stays on, he can demand a sweet quid-pro-quo – a lobbying or corporate position – for deciding not run again, and hope to re-establish himself in some sort of well-paid right wing corporate life in a few years.
SnarKassandra @ 62

hi-larious.
I gotta say, there cannot possibly in all of American history been ANY scandal that spawned jokes as natural and endless as……oh, I dunno…..sperm production in Idaho restrooms….?
Sigh.
Just make SURE you wear a condom.
Larry Craig has lied so long he does not know the difference between fact, fiction, truth, reality.
He claims to “love Idaho”. As a 20 plus year Idaho resident, I can safely say that Larry Craig has done more than anyone else in the world to destroy BLM and National Forest lands in Idaho and promote all manner of mining and other pollution.
He is mesmerized by the cattle industry and cowboys. He has Attached riders to Interior Approps. bills to mandate increased grazing in lands where native species like Sage Grouse are going extinct in the Jarbidge area.
He calls enviros who oppose cattle destruction of public lands “ecoterrorists”. Check out his website if you don’t believe this!
He has been a shameless promoter of every possible horrible logging bil you could imagine.
EVERYONE who has ever been in his presence knows he is gay. ‘Twil be an opportunity to air more things about Craig if he tries to fight this.
SnarKassandra @ 62
Evening Cassie. How’s life treating you these days? Did you get used to that insane school schedule you have yet?
GordonM @ 72

Yes, school is better and I understand my weird schedule better. But I have more homework this year than I used to.

missed #45 at 48.
never mind.
what i have come to wonder is
IF we all lived in a world where no one had to be closeted;
would there still be people in the closet?
A bit of spookly wisdom:
It would seem reasonable that Larry “Toe Tapper” Craig has been bought and paid for by various moneyed interests in his state. (Anyone care to comment on who they are?) I suspect THEY are the ones bankrolling this “fight for his name and seat crap”. The high profile team is to show they mean business. What Craig wants is a solid golden parachute for himself and his family, what the moneyed interests want is guarantees from the Rethugs that they will be protected by whoever takes his slot (ie no major new bribes will be required. Tough times in the payoff industries doncha know, gotta pinch millions where we can…)
Their handle is the ability to do just what they are doing, keep Larry “zipper flipper” Craig in the spotlight every flipping moment while the rethugs and chimpy have more important things to do. It is nuisance value, or as we used to call it, extortion.
GordonM @ 92

Yeah I did see that. I try to read Sirota every day as he keeps on top of things here in the Mountain West. Pretty disgusting, but really no terribly surprising. You have no idea just how whacko Montana Republicans are (let’s just say Conrad Burns is one of our saner specimens). At one point in the last legislative session (which meets every two years) the Republicans in the Stat House (where they hold a one seat majority) stripped ALL K-12 education funds from the state budget.

2) Tap right foot three times, in exaggerated fashion.
3) Tap left foot three times, in exaggerated fashion.
4) Bend over deeply at the waist, draw left hand from left to right, a few inches from floor.
5) Use thumb and forefinger to pick up imaginary toilet paper from floor, pretend to shake vigorously.
Repeat until music stops or boredom sets in, whichever comes first.

I believe the laws and penalties are the same either way. Of course the public perception of closeted gay men is different than that of lesbians. Certainly the sheer magnitude of truly awful potty humor seems to be far better developed for gay men.
That said, I’ve never heard of women trolling for anonymous sex in the bathrooms. I hear tell lesbians prefer uhauls to bathrooms…

Why is Specter the one pushing Craig to reconsider his “intent to resign”?

IMHO, just keeping his name in the limelight is leverage enough. If he really wants to get nasty, tho, he could ask Mark Foley to help run his young voter outreach program on the net.

I think it’s going to take naming names for this to get nasty. And I also wonder if this is going to dig into stuff back in the 1980’s…
DrDick @ 142
Okay, then he’s funding it himself for the first purpose. I mean, this guy can’t be that stupid, he has to know he has no chance here. Ergo, he wants something else, and the only thing left for him is a cushy job somewhere in his various industries and perhaps similar sinecures for his family.

I think Craig is staying because he is a stubborn fool and one of his kids said something like, “well, if you are innocent, why are you quitting?”
he’s got all kinds of ego tied up in this…

In San Diego, Bersin (formerly Border Czar, Carol Lam predecessor and ‘No Child Left Behind’ union-buster), destroyed all of the magnet schools and virtually every other bright spot in the city schools, eliminated virtually anything but rote reading instruction from inner city schools, awarded instructional appointments to people without college degrees, caused the drop out rate to skyrocket, and basically screwed 160,000 students (actually, down to 140,000 by the time progressives finally managed to get him fired). But he kept the budget under control.
Is Arlen trying to take back a single bullet? These boys keep
scores forever. Factor in Poppy being in Dallas in ‘63, the Tulsa
Boys in the White House in 89–with W being Fortunate Son in WH,
and me thinks the wheels might be coming off. Oh! Idaho.
Craig finally realized that he was getting some good head, some good ass and having some fun for the first time in his adult life. After seeing his wife, who looked an awful lot like my old Uncle George, is it surprising they adopted?
OldCoastie @ 157
It’s just delicious. It’s better than a food fight. Go, Larry, go!!!
althespook @ 151
But there is a point here, and that is about the funding. Who’s got the money for this kind of lawyering? It’s not a defense team, per se, either, these are people who can easily turn on an offensive game. Senators don’t make tons of money, unless they’ve had help; was Craig already wealthy when he entered the Senate? If not, who’s picking up the tab?
That part remains on the table.
I tell ya, this Larry Craig story is the gift that keeps on giving.
On stage this weekend I asked if there were any Republicans in the house? I then told the men to be on their best behavior because “there is an undercover cop in the restroom”.

It certainly figures that beef and wood are behind Larry Craig.

Maybe they were afraid there was too much learning going on in the boys bathrooms?
oops, we’re talking Montana here, not Idaho right?
GSD @ 103
Don’t count your rodents until they’ve fallen in a flaming heap. It looked like he was going to lose in 2001 and, then the Al Qaeda attacks on the US happened, everybody got vewy, vewy scared and he was re-elected.
There have, however, been quite a few signs of panic among the Liberals. The most obvious one is that he’s actually considering having the election sooner rather than later. Now, when you’re spiralling down in the polls you want to put the election off for as long as possible in the hope that you can turn things around. That he’s thinking of having it soon means that he thinks things can only get worse for him and his Party. (That sound you hear is my happy, happy heart skipping beats at the prospect of Howard losing, not just the election, but also his own seat.)

Thus my first speculation. But I avoid arguing with Dr. (pause) Dick. He’s a nice man. And he probably knows more than I do about Idaho (as noted above).
And while, pound for pound, lame puns are your best entertainment value, this is certainly going to take second place!
oddmommy @ 146
It’s all Greek to me and don’t read anything into that.
Happily straight and somewhat ignorant ; )
Can we get a list of the quotes from all of the GOPers bragging about how quickly Craig was booted out of the party? That would really be the icing on the cake here.
Hey CC.. Suzanne.. Snark.. Is TRex still on?? :)
OldCoastie @ 140
Nope. They were trying to appease one of our ultra extreme wingers who ran on a tiny party (which I can’t remember right now) so he would caucus with them and give them the majority. This guy (Rick Jore), basically opposes all taxes and government expenditures (except of course those which directly benefit him).
SnarKassandra @ 158
thanks for your updates.
SnarKassandra @ 173
God help you if that happens.
SnarKassandra @ 149
Sometimes that’s not such a good thing. Even though you’re much closer to college-age than not, it is going to be somewhat alienating for this kid to be in a college setting with people so much older. I say don’t rush things. Saying this to a teenager is kinda useless, but with a bit of age comes a tiny bit of wisdom, too.
Suzanne @ 137
Suzanne @ 137
oddmommy @ 147
Well see OddMommy, that’s the rub. When fellas who want to use that particular room for its intended purpose, we umm, kind of avoid socializing, I mean, really, really avoid it.
No eye contact, quickly shuffle into place, unzip (sometimes with that particular body shift to the left or right, depending on whether or not Sen, Craig is standing at the next urinal), whiz-bam-thank-you-ma’am and you’re outta there.
You touch as few things as possible (you see a lot of “elbow flushing” in public men’s rooms, sorta like what you see in the bathroom of a strip joint), you don’t make eye contact, you don’t linger, you don’t hold jocular conversation with the fellas standing next to you, and you NEVER, EVER offer the burly black dudes both a bl*wjob AND 20 bucks.
One or the other is OK, but not both.

God help Aunt Betsy! She is the home part of the home schooling.
EvilDrPuma @ 182
Not really. She could end up being the first archeologist/Veterinarian/Lawyer in the history of higher education. Blow right through her GRE’s and write her dissertations in between snarking on FDL. Take the bar exam and start a law firm specializing in Therapod Rights cases. Stop me before I go any further with this…

Can the president pardon Craig??
someone upthread said they are from Idaho.
I wanted to ask about the state’s OTHER senator….whose name, yea, verily I say unto ye, is Crapo. (and verily I say again unto ye, history hath never seen the like of this)
I know about him only because my little boy had a former playmate whose mamma is his PR director here in DC. I didn’t like her.
Trex, my friend, you are a comedic genius. bravo
I do not plan to be a vet. Otherwise ….
Hiya NorBlog!
althespook @ 154

Best wishes to TexB. She can come sleep in my bed and I’ll take the sofa, but it’s kind of a drive from Austin to Athens.

Right, that’s what I meant to conclude. I always seem to stop short.
Doesn’t this change of heart make Craig a flip-flopper?
ccmask @ 199

We should offer Craig a chance to cross over to the Democratic party, to show that we’re very inclusive. Anyone can fit in.

That is a good question and I am not sure of the answer. I do suspect that, like the Alaska delegation, Craig has received a fair share of “gratuities” from grateful “constituents”.
Alright, gang. Heading home with a stop by the grocery store first.
See you in a bit.
madmommy @ 218

Time for KO… g’night.
TRex @ 229
See Yas!
This is pretty spectacular stuff.
Go Larry go!
Is this the payback for the Lieberman bizarroworld? Who is the “boy genius” of the Craig 08 campaign–TRex? So it works like this, right–Larry refuses to give up his seat, starts hissing, the G(r)opers run a good ol Idaho manly man against him and their grassroots effort manages to take the Republican primary… but Larry becomes the “bipartisan” “independent” choice, a voice for reason in the Reddest state in the Union… what’s a little toe-tapping? Rahm and Bill Clinton and all the rest refuse to support the democrat in the election… and Larry keeps his seat!
And now it’s not the married ranch guys in the bathroom, but getting excited about bombing Iranians… oops, lost the thread there…
leslie @ 173
That is what I heard, as well.
Synoia @ 215
Not someone with such a wide stance. He’d be tapping toes outside of the tent too often.

I figured out in the year before kindergarden, when we would do pre-school workbooks together for a bit each day, that I cannot homeschool. As is often the case, he will do for his teachers what he will argue with me till the end of time about. Besides, with my inability to grasp any math beyond the basics, at some point I would be in deep trouble.
Just dropping by for a bit…hello all! This late night tennis is great, but it’s cutting in on my sleep time.
Our tent isn’t WIDE enough for Larry. Perhaps he, Vitter and Foley can start the Wide Stance Party. Dunno what their platform would be.

CTuttle @ 187
Hmmm. I have been looking for an opportunity to assign all three volumes of Capital (at about 500 pages each).
While I can appreciate albatrosses around McConnell’s neck and the outrage of the commentariat sheep of the right wing base as much as the next FDL reader, the fundamental intolerance and hypocrisy of the media, the Senate and people in general remains.
Sexual acts in a public men’s room–illegal and stupid–absolutely.
Yea, I know he pled guilty in a courtroom when anything that moves in the defense bar could have avoided that and that made it an uphill battle for Craig.
I still cannot help contrasting however the treatment of Senator David Vitter with Senator Larry Craig. I find the Vitter defenders’ comments that Vitter wasn’t caught and prosecuted as almosta all Johns are never prosecuted, weak. There’s no doubt that Vitter, like many in Congress and throughout the beltway in agencies hired an escort service.
But the fact remains that no one even thought about pressuring Vitter to get out of the Senate, if for no other reason than Gov. Blanco would appoint a Democratic to succeeed Vitter in La.
Above and beyond that, Vitter became a non-story as rapidly as the big Republican and collective media foot was placed in the butt of Larry Craig.
There is a parade of several people in Congress on their way to conviction for much more serious federal crimes– exponentially more significant than Larry Craig.
There is also the fact that Apathetic America and the hapless Congress have collectively yawned while DOJ was turned into a political weapon by the White House West Wing who has given every oversight committee a collective finger of a thousand “I don’t recalls” as they mocked them.
Statistically Democrats were prosecuted at the ratio of 4 to 1 compared with Republicans and the emails that have been made available (in contrast to the thousands that haven’t) have implicated the White House in stacking the prosecution deck using AUSAs and their bosses as puppets with people like Senator Dominici and Congresswoman Heather Wilson–2 of New Mexico’s finest–sticking their butts in to supervise DOJ prosecutions as they saw fit with no consequence to them.
This story so pales though, in comparison to the story that the Republican and Democratic sheep are going to approve yet another Iraq appropriation and the only thing that is going to stop the 4000 Dover coffins, the significant crippling of upwards of 30,000 now, and the cost that is now $3 Billion per week that we know of is the instutition of a DRAFT.
Until that happens, and the white suburbanites and McMansion builders see their little darlings off to IED land without protection of vehicles to resist them, we will have status quo in Iraq for years and years and years toward eternity.
Iraq still remains the monotonus pictures on TV for almost every apathetic American, and its a show that no ratings or network execs can cancel that is insured of running for years and perhaps decades.
It’s an apt metaphor that the State Department of the US has allowed 150 Iraqis who worked for the US government who are in danger into this country, but millions have been driven out of Iraq and are penniless, and aren’t allowed to work in other countries and thousands of Iraqi women have been driven into prostitution in Syria to feed their families.
Those things are infinintely more serious than whether Larry Craig remains a yes man to the Bush administration in the Senate or some other do nothing dufuss from Idaho takes his place in a couple weeks.
DrDick @ 238
Well, if they have their way, the rest of the books would be kindling anyway.

I hear you. My youngest is in special ed for speech. Had him tested at 3, even though I knew he was not talking like he should at that age. They would not even consider a deficit until he was 3. They started him on therapy, thankfully no physical reason for the speech delay. He’s now starting his 2nd year of speech and has made prgress, but is still testing at about age 2, though he will be 4 in a week. Before Katrina there was alot available, through the state and from the local universities. Now, not so much at all. We are now paying out of pocket for 2 days of speech per week on top of what is at school, in the hopes of him being able to start kindergarden next year, because our insurance will not pay for any deficits, delays or cognitive problems.

Evening Betsy, How are you doing? I hear you have had quite the ordeal today.
If Craig leaves the Senate, he’ll just be replaced by another Idaho right winged rubber stamp.
That David Vitter stays is evidence of the huge hypocrisy of the Senate. That several Senators and Congressmen are shuffling towards federal indictment is more evidence.
This story, whatever the jokes, whatever the stupidity of sex in a public restroom, is still grim evidence of homophobia on the part of the media and the American people and stupidity considering the air time it gets compared to an analysis of the sad fact that the Iraq fiasco is going to continue unstopped for years.
Way to go LL.

BTW, I “teased” everyone a few nights back about a big insider cooperating against Cheney and Gonzo and all the rest. Couldn’t talk about it cause I gave my word.
Well, the word is out: Special K Is In Da House!
A lot of bloggers including the inestimable EmptyWheel have been following this story, but this is the juicy part. Simply put, good old fashioned moneytary corruption, which every person can understand and which is fully actionable in a court of law, no Wah On Terrah bullcrap.
This may be why Leahy and Conyers are not interested in impeachment. they want a pair of resignations instead. cleaner and simpler for all.
And remember Chimpy’s odd comment to Rove in their weird “buh bye” presser, “I’m gonna be on the road right behind ya real soon” or something like that.

Election update:
Nikki Tsongas, widow of former Senator and presidential candidate Paul Tsongas has won the primary election for the only open seat in congress, the one vacated by Mahhhty Meehan who went on to UMASS president.
She will face Republican Ogonowski who is a farmer and a retired Air Force vet. His brother piloted one of the 9/11 planes, until it was hijacked, obviously.
This is a pretty safe seat but you never know.

Okay, if chimpy and cheney both resign (cheney first for the love of ghod), then Pelosi takes over automatically per the constitution. Agnew, Nixon’s running mate, was forced to resign after charges of tax evasion. Nixon then chose Ford as his replacement, and thereafter, of course, resigned himself when Watergate ratcheted up to an untenable point. Ford is therefore the only president who was never on a presidential ticket. Prior to being selected for VP, he was the republican minority leader for a number of years.
althespook @ 370
And very active in the gay rights movement, as well.
The repugs are sooooo angry with Craig that they

If only one resigns, the other can appoint a VP from anywhere he likes, and so on. So for Pelosi to be President, both would have to go at once.

marymccurnin @ 377
now the McConnell & Co are preoccupied with footsie, perhaps it’s time for Reid & Pelosi to go on the offensive… there’s still the outstanding matter of a few inherent contempt prosecutions we could be squeezing by them now…
peanutbutter @ 377
Don’t think so (IANACS, IANAL). If cheney is forced to resign, his replacement would have to be confirmed by the house/senate (unclear on rules here, knowledgeable laker please help out) and they can tell chimpy to stuff it, the vp is not required for the remainder of his “term”. then if chimpy is forced out or tossed out, Pelosi is in as noted above.

I stand corrected. But appropos for the topic this evening, no?
This nonsense from O’Hanlon deserves a reply:
There are three factors to keep in mind:
– There is seasonality to Iraq casualty statistics, so it is more valid to compare corresponding months of the year rather than successive months: http://atbozzo.blogspot.com/20…..lties.html
– On the corresponding-months scale, 2007 is worse than 2006, both for military and for civilian casualties.
– There is no surge in al-Anbar province, so the decline there has more to do with the fact that we are now arming and paying the local insurgents. But, per person, the al-Anbar residents are still killing six times as many American troops as are Iraqis at large:

Statistics will always fluctuate, and those who use shabby methodology can always fake some marginal evidence to make their point. But this sentence from O’Hanlon is a classic:
Sigh! The fact that the numbers are tragic does not make them any less valid and/or relevant. Get a grip, guy!

Absolutely. Also glad to know that you’re a fellow Blues Brothers movie fan ;-)

Fold’er all?
It’s got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it’s got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It’s a model made before catalytic converters so it’ll run good on regular gas. What do you say, is it the new Bluesmobile or what?

If I had no other reason to hate cocaine trafficking, the loss of Belushi would be reason enough.

I’d like his cigarettes (given up years ago) and a big bottle of Taqueray… did I spell this right?
GSD @ 385
I fear you may be right. This is the kind of situation which really brings out their worst instincts. Since they cannot admit to their own corruption, ineptitude, and intellectual bankruptcy, they seek out a scapegoat to crucify. While in a way, I get a bit of schadenfreude watching hypocrites hoist on their own petard, I would really like to see an end to the persecution of gays in this country. I am straight, but I had a friend killed in a gay bashing many years ago and it still pisses me off.
the Blues Brothers movie fans are coming out of the woodwork :-)

althespook @ 388
OK, looks like it. If you go here (and ignore the spew-worthy first sentence), it looks like Congress needs to approve the VP nomination.
DrDick @ 352
true, those of us of Scandinavian heritage dearly love a laugh, the assertion is a bit of insider humor for us upper-midwesterners.
althespook @ 402
Agreed. The sequels were but pasty copies. The original is a classic and I will watch it wheneve I come across it on the dish.
Christine Edmonson @ 403
