On the whole, I am against protest music. Generally the music isn’t up to the message or vice versa. This is one of those rare exceptions to the rule.
Also, the liner notes on the record contain what is perhaps my favorite musical credit ever:
David Ferguson-Screeches on “Biko”
I was eleven when the song was recorded, but I can neither confirm nor deny my involvement with the aforementioned screeches.

Fed the Zed- I’m off to bed.
Dang nabit!!
I’m here.
Can’t listen yet, but I am here.
How does one decide to be against protest music?
That just sounds so, so, Liebermanesque, TRex.

TRex!!!

Thanks TRex!

protest against protest music
So what is this about you being in the recording studio? I missed whatever announcement may have been made earlier.

Man, I’m tired.
I hadn’t been in a recording studio to sing in almost ten years. I think the results are pretty good. You can tell I’m a little rusty here and there, but n the whole, I am pleased.

Sorry guys. Pretty soon.
TexBetsy @ 17
Good to see you altho you should be asleep by now. hope your shots manana go okay.
We don’t have enough protest music these days….
I’ll admit, a lot of it isn’t musically sophisticated, but, damn, it’s about the lyrics.
No complex chords in this, but, the lyrics can’t help but grab you, especially if you’d been reading about Cheney, Schwerner and Goodman not long before:
“Here’s to the State of Mississippi”

Here’s to the state of Mississippi,
For Underheath her borders, the devil draws no lines,
If you drag her muddy river, nameless bodies you will find.
Whoa the fat trees of the forest have hid a thousand crimes,
The calender is lyin’ when it reads the present time.
Whoa here’s to the land you’ve torn out the heart of,
Mississippi find yourself another country to be part of!
Here’s to the people of Mississippi
Who say the folks up north, they just don’t understand
And they tremble in their shadows at the thunder of the Klan
The sweating of their souls can’t wash the blood from off their hands
They smile and shrug their shoulders at the murder of a man
Oh, here’s to the land you’ve torn out the heart of
Mississippi find yourself another country to be part of
Here’s to the schools of Mississippi
Where they’re teaching all the children that they don’t have to care
All of rudiments of hatred are present everywhere
And every single classroom is a factory of despair
There’s nobody learning such a foreign word as fair
Oh, here’s to the land you’ve torn out the heart of
Mississippi find yourself another country to be part of
Here’s to the cops of Mississippi
They’re chewing their tobacco as they lock the prison door
Their bellies bounce inside them as they knock you to the floor
No they don’t like taking prisoners in their private little war
Behind their broken badges there are murderers and more
Oh, here’s to the land you’ve torn out the heart of
Mississippi find yourself another country to be part of
And, here’s to the judges of Mississippi
Who wear the robe of honor as they crawl into the court
They’re guarding all the bastions with their phony legal fort
Oh, justice is a stranger when the prisoners report
When the black man stands accused the trial is always short
Oh, here’s to the land you’ve torn out the heart of
Mississippi find yourself another country to be part of
And here’s to the government of Mississippi
In the swamp of their bureaucracy they’re always bogging down
And criminals are posing as the mayors of the towns
They’re hoping that no one sees the sights and hears the sounds
And the speeches of the governor are the ravings of a clown
Oh, here’s to the land you’ve torn out the heart of
Mississippi find yourself another country to be part of
And here’s to the laws of Mississippi
Congressmen will gather in a circus of delay
While the Constitution is drowning in an ocean of decay
Unwed mothers should be sterilized, I’ve even heard them say
Yes, corruption can be classic in the Mississippi way
Oh, here’s to the land you’ve torn out the heart of
Mississippi find yourself another country to be part of
And here’s to the churches of Mississippi
Where the cross, once made of silver, now is caked with rust
And the Sunday morning sermons pander to their lust
The fallen face of Jesus is choking in the dust
Heaven only knows in which God they can trust
Oh, here’s to the land you’ve torn out the heart of
Mississippi find yourself another country to be part of
one of my favorite songs of all time. favorite, as in, will be haunted forever by its beauty and tragedy.

Nice choice montag. I listen to Ochs almost every day lately.
The Lurking Mod is guilty of a sin of omission, and begs forgiveness of the Pups. I was hoping Suzanne would be back quicker, and I played for time.

good, all things considered. All his MRSA infections are healed and his alzheimers is no worse. He does have to have cataract surgery in both eyes and he needs dentures (lots of teeth pulling, can’t go under a general and yank em all at once). Also has a suspicious mole on his back, it has a bush/cheney mini-mole sticker on it. And i’ve discovered a techno fix for his hearing that may allow him to have normal conversations rather than shouted ones.
I, on the other hand, am dayam near dead.
kirk murphy @ 23
Reminds me of Frank Zappa’s retort to Joe Pyne (who’d lost a leg in WWII) when Pyne had him on to rag on him. Pyne said, “so, your long hair makes you a woman.”
Without missing a beat, Zappa said, “so, your wooden leg makes you a table.”
I thought I would throw this up one more time on the way to bed.
Just a drive by, O’Hanlon is back with another op-ed in the NYT:
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09…..ref=slogin
He is second author and cagier this time but the message is the same. He says civilian casualties are down by 1/3 since late last year. The truth is no one knows how many civilians are killed because there is simply no reliable accounting of them. Even so, I checked icasualties for the last 3 months of 2006 and the last 3 months (Jun-Aug of 2007). I came up with a decrease of just over 10% and I have not yet done but will do a year to year comparison to check for seasonal effects.
I have to say the NYT is really ginning up the case for continuing the “surge”. There is a long piece by their pre-eminent war whore Michael Gordon in their magazine section. And there is this second O’Hanlon op-ed. Military progress is being madem, complicated, bad things will happen if we leave. Bill Keller seems to be pulling out all the stops because he wants to show the world that the NYT is Very Serious and the only way he has found to do this is to cheerlead the biggest and stupidest wars he can find.
Anyway, good night.
TRex, thank you for singing. You get the first

You are clearly unaware of Teh Secret FDL Protocols of Hamsher!
First, you get a printout of your “zed”. laser is best and in color of course.
Next, you laminate said printout. Use heavy plastic.
Finally, you bronze the laminated zed printout and put it on a tasteful wooden frame (kobe prefers cherrywood) and hang it on your trophy wall.
We’ll add this to the FDL Snarq Faq real soon now.
speaking of gravity (previous thread) – Gabriel’s later career has been rather disappointing, alas. here’s one very good thing, however: a guest-singing gig with Afro-Celt Sound System:
When You’re Falling
Well, punaise, I told the guys if they donated some money to my friend Poppy’s Cat Fund that I would make a YouTube singing an Amy Winehouse song.
We recorded it (video with audio running to a board) tonight and my friends are getting the video and audio synched and we should be in business very shortly.
I did one Amy Winehouse song and Peter Gabriel’s “Here Comes the Flood” and then we ran out of time. Like I said, though, I am fairly pleased with the results. It’ll be when I wake up in the morning that I’ll want to confiscate the master tapes and burn them.

Never thought of that. good point. I believe she’ll do a good job in that case. All the medical folk say we do a far better than average job on daddy. Since it’s my first time I have no reference.
Oh, and Teh Granddaughter is 10 tomorrow. Party delayed till next saturday, for my sins. And after a bit of a ruckus involving excessive kid-cell-phone use, Teh Granddaughter is also a budding capitalist. She has to do odd chores and such to get extra allowance to pay back the overage on her cell (teach her responsibility about money and all that) and now she’s aware that SHE can have money beyond a fixed pittance. To quote emperor Jeff Wong of the Dim Sum Dynasty, “Dis is NOT good!”

Perhaps one writes a song against protest music.
I think we need more protest music. It was part of a vital force that ended the war in Vietnam.
I understand being against a genre of music, though. I oppose any music that describes the lifestyles of rockers. If there is analagous CW music, I would hate that too, I suppose.

We get those on our work terminals. Sadly, the techies in Field System Support can do nothing about it, cause usually when it happens? We’re too damned busy to call them so they can actually SEE the error occurring. Then they might actually do somethign about it. But nothing is so nicely timed so we have half an hour for them to go through protocol to do so. If it happened on my personal computer i’d be having to overhauled and checking the hardware ASAP.
Suzanne @ 115

Having the house “show clean” is not the same as having it mother clean. My mother’s idea of fun things to do before breakfast include polishing the baby grand piano, washing all the windows inside and out, doing 3 loads of laundry and, of course, dusting and vacuuming the entire house.
My eyes don’t even start to focus until I’m on my second cup of coffee.
By following a link on HuffPo, I came to an article about how the GOP candidates are failing to excite their base. Well, Duh! But it contained this remarkable paragraph.
Let’s think about that.
First, Bush, who kept the Viet Cong out of the skies over Alabama, or didn’t, as they case may be, never seemed to have a problem sending people to war. As long as they were unrelated to him.
McCain may be a waste of skin, but he has seen the horrors of war, and won’t take the decision lightly. Not to mention he probably has some institutional loyalty to the Senate, which, in a bygone era, was presumed to exercise a role in the decision to declare war.
But over and above all of that, is Mr. Goulet’s problem that the Goopers are having too much trouble sending people to war? What we he have? The candidate who could do it in his sleep? Sorry, dude. Cheney isn’t running.

I’m here lurking(sorta) and playing some music given to me by a friend that i have a hard time finding here in the US for an upcoming radio show in Second Life. I must be insane.
Three shows in one week, while working about 40 hours that same week in RL too. I must be insane but this new music is insnaely worth it. Hard to find propellerheads(that if i ever get the money for this damned import it’s MINE on the official note of things), and techno i can’t find unless i go hunting and sometimes can’t find otherwise. My source is evil and he loves getting exposure for this stuff. That’s what makes it all such a joy.
I also bemoan the lack of protest music. No airplay at all for the most part of the little that has been done, becuase ClearChannel clearly owns most radio stations. Wankers, the lot of them.

Hmph, ’bout time…!!!
finifinito @ 203
i went to ex#2’s family reunion while we were married. one of his midwest kin served up a jello dish made with pretzels that, i swear, tasted like cheesecake. still wish i had gotten that recipe.
sorry, ct, i was tucking token, the cutest dog in the world into bed.
By the way thank you to everyone who came by Blue America on Saturday or donated to Barry Welsh. We did really well this weekend and it gave a real boost to Barry. I love the FDL Family.
Suzanne @ 207
fb piccie?
Suzanne @ 206
ive had a thousand jello molds tasting like that or similar to it. The folks in these parts do magical things with Jello that i cant comprehend.
Well I gotta crash, just wanted to duck in for a few and see what was happening in Late Night. See you all soon!
finifinito @ 212
Nite, fini!!!

I’m calling it a nite, too! With that I bid another fond adieu! Aloha Oe!!!
Suzanne @ 213
You are correct. Token IS Teh Kyoot!
(Reminds me of my dog Buppy, now sleeping at the foot of my wife’s bed in the Elven Heavens.)
CTuttle @ 214
Nite, CT!
OMG
That’s just an ingredient too far.
I just hit Teh Wall. Will hopefully be a regular (or an unleaded) at Late Nite for the next few weeks.
Pet Token for me.
(poof)
al, if ya look to the right of that picture, there is a picture of him taken on the day i got him – he was 8 weeks old and weighed 2lb 4 oz – and fit in the palm on my hand
halooo everyone (those of you left)…what’s new, how is the world treating you?
g’nite fini and CT – good dreams!
hey spidey, its a very comfy 64 right now – how’s your end of the bay?
Suzanne @ 219
Funny. My father said the same thing about me. (I was 2 lb, 4 oz when I was born.)

Nighters CT – thanks for your encouragement and am trying to figure out how to get word out that donations to pitch in for Jane’s horrendous medical bills can be done in two ways: via the FDL home site PayPal button on upper right hand at top – or – checks can be mailed to the FDL post office box in LA. That address is just below the PayPal link IIRC.
Am noodling on an ebay auction benefit and open to any and all suggestions.
warm enough to still have the windows open…on the hill in back you might need a long sleeved shirt. There were two small fry on the arbor tonight sitting with their feet dangling through, stuffing grapes in their mouths (and dropping some down making a big mess)
here’s a good drink to serve your rels when they come:
ripe banana
1 1/2 cups low fat milk
3-4 ice cubes
1/2 Teas cinnamon
1/4 teas nutmeg, freshly grated
1/8 cup honey
1 teaspoon (or two) vanilla extract
Put in blender and puree or use a wand til ice is all blended in.
Oh, ok. You can point out the pay pal button and snail mail addy that is in the upper right hand corner of every FDL page. Have you talked to Jane about the auction idea?
spiderpaws @ 227
sppidey, that will be perfect. i’m fixing lunch after they drive up from palm springs. the cinnamon will be great for mom, who is pre-diabetic – i’ll just not put honey in hers.
i’ve got all the doors and windows open – and the screens all shut – don’t want another bat flying in here.
I’m hearing all kinds of stuff about a possible attack on Iran, e.g.:

The possibilities ain’t pretty, are they?
We can expect no less, though, from a government run by dumbfucks and sociopaths….
.”
well, that’s about it for me tonight, folks.
This seems nothing less than suicidal to me. It’s incredible to think that there’s no one who seems capable of stopping these madmen.
Hi and bye, Suz!
sorry we are ships passing in the tubes tonight alicia -catch ya next time :)
Suz – you have mail.
Alicia @ 234
I know this is difficult to fathom, but, to my mind, all this started in 1990. The Soviet Union was falling apart, and the power elite in this country needed a new enemy.
Bush’s Poppy knew that keeping American soldiers in Saudi Arabia was sure to get the Salafis and Wahabbis worked up about infidels in the Holy Land, and, so, he lied to the Saudis about a threat to them (with phony satellite photos of Iraqi tanks parked on their border). Not to mention setting up Saddam Hussein for the invasion in the first place….
Keeping American soldiers there guaranteed the terrorist acts against this country throughout the `90s. By the time Junior was in the White House (and was ignoring every threat presented to him), 9/11 was a foregone conclusion.
Voila! War on terror. The new enemy to replace the Soviet Union.
It’s all so despicable. So… manipulative. So… cynical.
montag @ 239
So sociopathic – and the dim democratic leadership are too cowardly and refuse to impeach both bastards.
newspaperbrat @ 239
I don’t think, any more, that it’s cowardice. I think it’s complicity. Rough words, yeah, but, both sides have depended upon defense spending for their jobs. Murtha? Deep into the defense procurement process. Feinstein, Boxer, Pelosi? In the state with the largest components of the defense aerospace and computer industries in the country. Reid? Area 51, Nellis AFB and the Nevada Test Site in his district, not to mention a few other secret sites.
Frankly, everyone in Congress is compromised in this regard.
holy shit – on the beeb, a guest (Anthony Davis)speaking at length -

Surely not freshman Senator Jim Webb? Obama? Rep. Kucinich?
Where did I put that stash of dark chocolate? Anyone know how long it takes to renew passports?
Hi, pups,
Back from eight days of rehearsing, performing and touring in Southeast Alaska. Good to be home! Learned a lot about local politics in Juneau, Haines and Sitka. The weather was spectacular, and we kicked butt in our concerts. Met some awesome musicians.
anyone still awake?
TexBetsy @ 247
I’m trying. I’ve had five hours sleep in three days – touring and playing -and just got back home and can’t nod off.
Ed*ard Teller @ 248
I’m just awake.
Stuff swirling in my head.
WashPo and Time Help ABC Bury Treatment of Kucinich
From MediaBloodhound
Following last Sunday’s Democratic presidential debate on ABC News’ This Week with George Stephanopoulos, Dennis Kucinich’s campaign asked ABC News to address issues it had with treatment Rep. Kucinich (D-Ohio) received both during the debate and afterward in ABC’s online coverage. In an email sent out to supporters on Wednesday, the campaign said it “submitted objections and inquiries to ABC News representatives on Monday and Tuesday. ABC News representatives have failed to respond – or even acknowledge – those objections and inquiries.” I confirmed with the Kucinich campaign yesterday that it has subsequently been forwarded the same response ABC News Executive Director Andrea Jones sent to The Washington Post and Time magazine.
ABC News representatives felt it necessary to answer the Kucinich campaign’s objections when Time magazine’s National Political Correspondent Karen Tumulty queried them. Writing on the Time blog Swampland, Tumulty initially says of the Kucinich team’s issues with ABC’s treatment (which included Kucinich not having a chance to speak until 28 minutes into the debate), “These all seemed like fair complaints to me, so I asked ABC News to respond.” Then Tumulty says, “In an e-mail, Executive Director Andrea Jones answered him [Kucinich] point by point.”
While I give Tumulty credit for contacting ABC News, her investigative journalism unfortunately ends there. Once she receives the email from Jones, Tumulty slips into stenography mode. Jones’ “point by point” response to the Kucinich campaign’s complaints does not in itself exculpate or dispel any of ABC’s wrongdoing. Tumulty fails to assess the accuracy and logic of Jones’ answers.
First, just so we’re all up to speed, here are the issues (an aggregate of the thousands of complaints received during and after ABC’s debate coverage) that the Kucinich campaign asked ABC News to address:
* Congressman Kucinich was apparently deliberately cropped out of a “Politics Page” photo of the candidates.
* Sometime Monday afternoon, after Congressman Kucinich took a commanding lead in ABC’s own on-line “Who won the Democratic debate” survey, the survey was dropped from prominence on the website.
* ABC News has not officially reported the results of its online survey.
Romney Fundraising Scandal Ignored By Liberal Media – Clinton Gets Hammered Over Hsu
from Crooks and Liars by Logan Murphy
money_politicspt.jpg August was a disastrous month for Republicans and the Romney campaign took a huge hit when it’s national finance committee co-chairman, Alan B. Fabian was charged in a 23 count indictment, including charges of money laundering, mail fraud, perjury and obstruction of justice. It’s reported Fabian, a former Bush Pioneer, allegedly ran a scheme that netted him millions of dollars which were used to purchase beach front property and travel. The Romney campaign said they would return Fabian’s $2,300 campaign donation, but not funds donated by others through him. Fabian stepped down from Romney’s campaign shortly after his August 9th indictment — but you may not have heard much about this scandal.
Undercutting Bush’s claims of success in Anbar.
from Think Progress by Amanda
Today, President Bush held the Anbar province up as an example of his escalation’s success and justification for why the troop buildup should not be cut short:
In Anbar you’re seeing firsthand the dramatic differences that can come when the Iraqis are more secure. … You see Sunnis who once fought side by side with al-Qaida against coalition troops now fighting side by side with coalition troops against al-Qaida.
But as the AP points out, “In truth, the progress in Anbar was initiated by the Iraqis themselves, a point Gates himself made, saying the Sunni tribes decided to fight and retake control from al-Qaida many months before Bush decided to send an extra 4,000 Marines to Anbar as part of his troop buildup.”
UPDATE: “Though Mr. Bush never left the confines of the air base on his six-hour visit, he declared: ‘I have come here today to see with our own eyes the remarkable changes that are taking place in Anbar Province.’”
Bush’s surge escalated ethnic cleansing.
from Think Progress by Amanda
Shiites have cleared the western half of Baghdad of thousands of Sunnis, who once dominated the area. “The surge of U.S. troops — meant in part to halt the sectarian cleansing of the Iraqi capital — has hardly stemmed the problem.” Rafiq Tschannen, chief of the Iraq mission for the International Organization for Migration, “says that the fighting that accompanied the influx of U.S. troops actually ‘has increased the IDPs to some extent.’”
President Bush thinks he has a get out of jail card in the phrase history will judge me. He thinks it means he can do anything he wants now and that his critics will be proved wrong later.
Remeber part of Bush’s problem is that he is never wrong. The part of Bush’s problem that we have been over looking is that Bush and Cheney are hypersensitive to criticism.
Bill Mahr got his network TV program cancled, Valerie Palme was outed for her Husbands NY Times piece, anyone who criticizes Bush gets their patriotism questioned.
Think of Bush as a child allergic to everything its his own autoimmune system that attacks everything foreign wether it would harm him or not.
Allergic kids like Bush look bad in comparison to healthy kids the Democratic presidential candidates are healthy. We need our candidates to help the democratic party now by comparing themselves to Bush.
Instead of attacking each other to prove how “strong” they are they could Attack Bush on his History Will judge me issues.
Like Rebuilding New Orleans by getting everybody a home to go back to. Like rebuilding/moving the city so it won’t flood surely the Army Corp of Engineers has some plans to do this.
No Child left behind that law could be fixed.
The Democrats need to cherrypick Bush’s record for his biggest failures and crosscheck with the issues of most concren with voters.
gonna try sleep again. good night.
I suggest automaticly reseting all morgage loans to more reasonable rates. I suggest doing something to get housing insaurence in flood plains and hurricane areas undercontrol.
Maybe by restricting all future development in these areas except for making these buildings category 5 hurricane and 500 year flood proof, those who still have property in these areas would see the value of there property skyrocket.
They could use that new value to get loans to pay for home insaurence and/or renovate their homes as cat 5, 500 yr flood proof homes.
But once these homes get destroyed the owner gets a check for the home’s value and moves away. The Federal Government gets a few more acres of national park.
This would encourage homeowners to build better homes that don’t need to be repaired that often.
I don’t know how many are still up, but this is worth it, thanks to Don Key on TPM

Thanks Bob In Hi.

This Its Ok if Your A Republican double standard the press operates on I’m sure is directly connected to the number of people that read blogs first to get the news. Because the MSM won’t report it
I’m sure Fox and MoDo think most of our reporting on issues is quaint but if I and America really wanted lies and gossip then Fox and the Times would be making more money then wouldn’t they.
Mais non, monsieur…did you mean to say you are against protest music in general, or do you simply dislike some, or much, of it? If the latter, one could not disagree. Biko is an anthem…anthem. Much as is Masters of War.
Read the lyrics to Masters of War and tell me what has changed in forty years? We need more (and better) protest songs.
Good morning, pups. The NYT has Bobo and Bob Herbert. Bobo says the surge has failed in an unexpected way. Mr. Herbert says there is probably no city in America where women are treated worse than they are in Las Vegas. His column is titled “City as Predator.”

Good morning, Marion.
I’ve been up all night writing lecture for 1 pm today. But, it’s a killer lecture. I think best I get a few hours sleep soon.
I have a vintage Savannah cookbook (orange spiral binding) Often thought to ask you if you might enjoy it. But, can’t give you the details now. Lost in the mess. But, it’s nice.
xxoooo
Good morning, Marion.
The PayPal link at the top of FDL’s home page is open 24 hours 7 days a week.
Did you know you can contribute to Jane’s ghastly medical bills directly by Pay Pal or mail 24/7 above.
Mid-day on Monday I contributed what I think was a saw buck – assuming that means $100 – the FDL PayPal link includes a space to designate a specific purpose. Mine read “For Jane’s medical debt” or similar words.
Large or modest every donation counts. Spread the word via comments and let Jane feel the love and one less thing to worry and distract our intrepid founder. Spread the news throughout the other essential blogs. Jane will not only feel the love, respect and appreciation she will know we have her back 24/7.
Put out the word on other major blogs, invite Arianna, Kos, and others to get the word out and direct their readership to the FDL home page Pay Pal or P.O. Box address.
Morning, friends -
Susan DuQuesnay Bankston, former proprietor of the best beauty salon in Texas, has an absolutely spot-on take down of consultants and the politicians who hire them (second post on 9-3). And you might want to follow the linky she provides as well.
Read it for a good grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr & *g*:

Good morning!
Good Morning, too!
TexBetsy @ 250
That’s a very ugly way to run a network news organization. Shame on ABC. And shame on any news organization who buries the story of what ABC has done.
egregious @ 267
And top of the morning to you dear egregious!
Will you help get the word out for donatons for Jane’s soaring medical bills not covered by her insurance and encourage donations in your comments and your blog?
Morning, all.
The war drums are getting a pounding this morning.

newspaperbrat @ 270
Hi newspaperbrat,
Actually until we hear from Jane that this is something she would like us to do, I would like to see our fundraising efforts focused on FDL.
What better way to show Jane we are there for her, than an outpouring of support for this creation of hers?

Morning egregious, all.
Howdy TexBetsy! Come on upstairs and join us in Christy’s new thread.
The Good Neoconman
Yihla Moya means “Come Spirit” in isiXhosa and is an implicit reference to the national anthem, Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika. It’s also hopelessly mispronounced by Gabriel — the “hl” creates a sound similar to the Welsh “ll” — but whatever … I guess it’s asking too much for protest songs to be faithful to the language of the people on behalf of whom they are protesting.
After going down the thread of this, I kept thinking it would have been nice if someone knew who Peter Gabriel’s African guitarists were on this, and if the camera would give either one a clear shot of their faces.
mapantsula @ 280
it’s the thought that counts. he also butchered “Jeux Sans Frontieres”, games without frontiers.
punaise @ 282
In general maybe it is the thought that counts, but since part of Biko’s central message was that black activists should not be grateful for a condescending sympathy from whites, and since not taking the time to learn how to pronounce fairly simply words in another language might be regarded as slightly condescending, I really can’t help thinking that he could have done a little better in a homage to a black consciousness leader.
