I had to share this with you all as it is so very, very typical of how Republicans and conservatives argue.
I had made a post on my blog on the predictive powers of Al Gore, as noted by Robert Parry of The Consortium. (Parry’s also the main reason we know as much as we do about the Iran-Contra scandal — and that is most likely the reason he, who once was a reporter for Newsweek, no longer has a job in the mainstream GOP/Media Complex. But I digress.)
Charming little Republican disinfo drone Rick G reaches into his old bag of Gore quotes pulled out of context to smear Al. But he doesn’t realize that, unlike the typical low-information folk and conservative activists with whom he deals, we actually know the truth and the whole truth about the smears he’s pimping — for instance, the full context of certain speeches which he’s selectively edited.
As my co-blogger Charles said, after he disembowelled Rick: “You can lie as much as you like and you will not diminish Al Gore by a millimeter. But you do diminish yourself.”
Yeah, and besides, you run through an awful lot of pants, when they keep catching on fire like this.

Morning, PW!
top 10?
no WAy!!
I’ll go with Gore.
Good morning, PW. I’ve had my share of arguments with conservatives since moving to Ohio.
The facts are not fair to them. Unfair!
Whoa. Surprised myself.
I’ll go tell t’others.
Good morning Phoenix woman. Excellent post, as usual.
It would be so sweet to see Gore knock the two front-runners out of the park.
“As my co-blogger Charles said, after he disembowelled Rick: “You can lie as much as you like and you will not diminish Al Gore by a millimeter. But you do diminish yourself.” “
What a great way to bring a snake to heel. Just the kind of language assertive Dems ought to be using!

That’s cuz facts (as well as reality) have a noted librul bias.

For the record, Bill Moyers did ask Karl Rove to come on BILL MOYERS JOURNAL, by fax and by mail. These requests were made before Chris Wallace responded on-air on Fox News Sunday to Bill Moyers’ letter, and we still haven’t heard from Karl Rove.
Morning PW!

And they have a well-known liberal bias!
Mr. Rove indicated shortly before he left the WH, that he was looking forward to going home and shooting little birds to death.

Republicans lie to smear anyone they don’t like, but they do to Clintons and Gore with particular relish. Which is why it is so outrageous that Bush would say what he did about Gonzo – that his good name has been dragged through the mud. What a scumbag.
Morning PW.
Dandy post. and that graphic may be(IS!) perfect bumper-sticker material. Woo Hoo!
This is a wild weekend for us. We stayed up late last night playing a killer game of dominoes with my parents and sister. Tonight we go to a wedding that will be filled with what I am assuming are religio-fascist freaks from one of the SA holy roller churches.

Rick’s a Republican, Charles. They are the People of the Lie. They can’t handle the truth, which is why the gay ones don’t go to gay bars, but hang out in airport restrooms where kids could see them.
Beautiful!
Honestly, PW, I can’t even bring myself to go to the ‘dark side’ even to visit – it’s so illogical and aggravating. I know I should. But it’s just so self-defeating. The other day I read some comment on a Brent Budowsky article, taking liberals to task and excoriating them for opposing the war – ‘because Saddam kicked out the inspectors!’
When you start with a lie and build your argument on that foundation, what’s the use in participating in the argument?
Haaretz columnist Danny Rubinstein’s participation in a British Z*onist Federation (ZF) conference in London this weekend was cancelled, by mutual agreement, after Rubenstein was quoted as having described Israel as “an apartheid state” at a UN conference in Brussels.

I don’t watch TV (not for 2 years).
But have a theory about TV having to do with Gore.
IMO, television is the modern-day opium of the masses.
To keep the pipe filled, everyone on TV — from Billy O to Jon Stewart — needs someone with high entertainment value to laud, lambast or lampoon.
Shrub has it.
Hillary has it, despite lacking a sense of humor.
Edwards doesn’t have it.
Ghoul does…so many things to criticize.
Gore doesn’t have it.
Steve-AR @ 17
Oh, my.
I figured that the murder-murder-suicide had to be a love affair gone wrong — if only from the walking-on-eggshells treatment the national media’s given it so far — but didn’t realize that Patrick McHenry, that manly man who has young Republican boys sleep over at his place all the time, was connected somehow.
Apropos lies: More on the horizon re: Iran and we have GOT to galvanize to stop another war.

TexBetsy @ 26
You know, somehow I don’t have to. My aura, hair, clothing, lack of makeup, something screams, “Stay away! She’s a witch with a powerful spell.” It should be very interesting as it is the wedding of one of my daughter’s best friends from childhood. Somewhere along the road the two took very different forks and traveled separate paths, but sort of kept in touch. A lot of it had to do with the bride being homeschooled and falling in with that crowd. My poor daughter turns out not to have fallen too far from the tree. Her innate sense of snark would delight you.
Gnome, can’t wait to meet your daughter and have you meet the rest of my family.

Loo Hoo. @ 34
That would be the Senate Republican Caucus, right?
Betsy, how can we do that? We are both so crazy busy. Got any ideas? We can do another Sunday at the island, possibly, since daughter’s BF is off working in LA for two months. Not that she is at loose ends. Actually, he is even funnier than she is in a very quiet way. They make quite the pair.

August ‘06 – 65
August ‘07 – 81
70 United States soldiers dead in Iraq since Congress went on vacation.
Iraqi civilian casualties are probably double what they were last year, but the goddamm U.S. govt. doesn’t care or even try to keep accurate counts of Iraqis.
I was looking at the WikiScanner, this morning, and found that someone at the DHS was very busy editing Al’s Wiki entry. Oh my!

1800 Iraqis died in August. 1800. And I imagine that does not include cholera deaths.

Astral Technician @ 51

It’s all Chinese to me!
Hi PW at 50. I know FDL has been talking about this muchly and I so appreciate that. I think we have to think BIGGEST about this. We need to take to the streets on this. We need big pictures and scenes. Frankly, we need the world to know we don’t want this. We need LOTS of pressure, given the fact that Cheney doesn’t really doesn’t care about the constitution or the citizenry.
It reminds me of a time long ago when an attorney I know was at a dressy up party and a pillar of the legal community put his hand down her low-backed dress. She put her own hands on his crotch and loudly told him (in front of a crowd) that if he did it again, she’d “twist them off.” (He didn’t do it again). Street theater might trump Kabuki.
I’d like a firedoglake post with one of my favorite “Far Side” cartoons… it shows Tarzan on the highway with a metal skeleton of an elephant that has the caption “Tantor burns up on I-90″. This pic reminded me of that… as I-90 runs through Idaho, I think the caption should be changed to “GOP burns up on I-90″….

OT I just wanted to point out this from the NYT article on Condoleezza Rice.
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09…..ref=slogin
OK, does anyone wonder anymore why George Bush and Condoleezza Rice get on so well together? Except for the playing Brahms, all this could have been a description of the Deciderator himself.
The article is funny in an existentialist sort of way. Condi is worried about her legacy. Apparently it has not filtered into her world view yet that when you serve the worst President in our history that is your “legacy”.
“Just in time for the holiday, two liberal groups–United for a Fair Economy and the Institute for Policy Studies–have issued a gleefully malicious new attack on our CEO class. They point out that the CEOs of large companies earn an average of $10.8 million a year, which is 362 times as much as the average American worker, and retire with $10.1 million in their exclusive pension funds. The groups further point out that the compensation of US CEOs wildly exceeds that of their European counterparts, who, we are invited to believe, work equally hard.”
I’m with you, Laura Doty.
Oklahoma kiddo @ 9
Gosh, wouldn’t it though! I long for that day!
Astral Technician @ 51
I gotta file this one away. A great polytheistic quip.
Condi is worried about her legacy.
Doesn’t one have to actually *do* something in order to have a legacy?
The truth will set you free, but the Republicans seem to be happy as slaves. They don’t want to think they want to be told what to do. Thinking is hard. Thinking is dangerous and they are afraid. They would rather live on thier knees (I’m talking to you Larry) than stand up for what they say they believe in. I remember when the Republican Party was suppose to stand for fiscal responsibility, civil rights and conserving our resources. That was a long time ago. I voted for Tom McCall (a Republican) for Governor of Oregon and was proud to do it, but now I wouldn’t vote for a Republican for dog catcher. Is Michael Vick a Republican?

One day I was performing in the subway and there was a remarkably beautiful woman standing on the crowded platform. A man getting off the train passed her on her right and grabbed her left “cheek.’ and just kept walking.
Thinking she had been grabbed by a man standing behind her on her right, she wails around an unexpectedly punches him square in the nose. She then got on the train, the doors closed, leaving the hapless guy standing there with his nose bleeding.
It all went down so perfectly. The Marks Brothers couldn’t have done it better

amusing shit from C&L
But even such tight control could not always filter out the bizarre world inside the [Green Zone] barricades. At one point, [three visiting members of Congress] were trying to discuss the state of Iraqi security forces with Iraq’s national security adviser, Mowaffak al-Rubaie, but the large, flat-panel television set facing the official proved to be a distraction. Rubaie was watching children’s cartoons.
When Moran asked him to turn it off, Rubaie protested with a laugh and said, “But this is my favorite television show,” Moran recalled.
[Rep. Jon Porter (R-Nev.)] confirmed the incident, although he tried to paint the scene in the best light, noting that at least they had electricity.
“I don’t disagree it was an odd moment, but I did take a deep breath and say, ‘Wait a minute, at least they are using the latest technology, and they are monitoring the world,’ ” Porter said. “But, yes, it was pretty annoying.”

Another drive-by announcement, which you will get every time Howie’s name is mentioned in the comments. OC, pay attention:
Howie will be speaking at the Foothill Community Democrats club meeting in Monrovia, CA on Sept. 27. Meeting commences 7-ish and goes to 9-ish, at the Peach Cafe. If you order before 2PM the day of the meeting, a lovely salad or sandwich or a cup of fantabulous gazpacho will be waiting for you. Come meet Howie.

Senator Potatoe Head
PW, we wuz on the Green River, about to head into Desolation Canyon, last week and the biggest beaver I have ever seen (must have been from the big beaver corridor) waddled up onto the bank about 10 ft from our 7 kids watching it with their mouths hanging open. He gave them a look – Wadda YOU lookin’ at – and began to graze on the baby tamarisks shoots. He stayed there about 5 minutes, and then slipped back into the river. A coupla minutes later a coupla local redneck took a few shots at it as it swam across the river, causing the kids to collapse in heaps of tears. Missed, TG. The ranger was not amused.
We also clocked an antelope running alongside our car at about 35 mph. The otters we saw last year in Flaming Gorge were one of my animal sighting highlights.
Now Buchanan is speaking out for “the wife”.
“It’s really hard on her in that she’s the wife of a senator”.

And they’d all come to meetings with bags on their heads?
Loo Hoo. @ 141
I’m not sure, buit I don’t think the junta here will ever appear at the hague. First of all, the International Court of zjustice is usually where nations settle their disputes betw/among each other. Secondly, the US is not a signatory to the Rome Statute and is, therefore, not liable to be brought before the international Criminal Court unless the acts it is accused of take place in a country that recognizes the ICC. Iraq is not one of those states. Failing all else, the UN Security Council can recommend trial at the Hague, but we all know where that action is gonna go.
I think the best hope we have of ever seeing these criminals held accountable is if we ever get a functioning Justice Dept again and the AG decides to investigate and prosecute under US law the war crimes these people are guilty of.
I don’t want the international community to take care of our dirty laundry, I want to see someone step up here even if a national party has to be created and coalesce behind this as its main raison d’etre.
Oh boy, Iranians reportedly bomb villages in Northern Iraq.
perris @ 147
Senator Bill Bradley writes in his latest book on the ascendancy of the DLC as a sort of “GOP-lite”, and its success in supporting President Clinton in 1992 and 1996, while failing to represent the interests of rank and file Democrats.
My personal opinion is Senator Clinton is a profoundly authoritarian personality who will do whatever is necessary to be elected President, and may — or may not — be bounded by the law. The DLC will support her in whatever way possible.
Loo Hoo. @ 170

I don’t want the international community to take care of our dirty laundry, I want to see someone step up here even if a national party has to be created and coalesce behind this as its main raison d’etre.
History demonstrates that America has a way to deal with egregious acts committed by its own government.
Kangaroo Courts, whitewash and pardons.
See, the public can’t stomach impeachment. It is divisive at a time when the country needs to stand united and heal its wounds. /s
I noticed someone (forget who) earlier said they missed Bob Geiger’s Saturday am cartoons. For those who are not familiar with Daryl Cagle’s Cartoon site:
Gonzalez Quits Link
and
I Am Not Gay Cartoons.
On his site, Cagle publishes both conservative and liberal artists.

Same belt, too.
Changed his shirt, though.
